If there’s not gonna be any long term solution to tunneling early in a match any time soon can there be either more anti tunnel perks added or small or slight buffs to the current anti tunnel perks in the game. Before I get a horde of angry killers yelling at me yes I understand that there will be times in a match where your hand in a match will be forced and you’ll need to tunnel someone out for pressure and yes more survivors need to understand this as well so whether survivors like it or not there will be matches where them or someone on their team will end up being tunneled out for pressure. The main issue I’m seeing is early game tunneling it’s been so common lately and simply put it’s no fun when either you’re tunneled out and killed or it happens to one of your teammates super early into the match because of being the “weak link”
Precisely. I can understand late-game tunneling. It's moreso early game that is irritating.
I recently started playing killer again cause of this then I'm reminded also why I stopped playing killer. Genrushing.
I think I come to the conclusion now that Tunneling and Gen rush are problems that feed eachother and make the game stressful, miserable for both sides and these issues should be fixed simultaneously so everyone could have fun.
What boggles my mind is, I'm pretty sure both sides have complained of these issues for a long time and yet, survivors aren't receiving strong anti tunnel, which is needed, instead they're getting perks that help boost the very thing that stress killers out and push many to tunnel in the first place; Gen speeds.
-
It could also be that the perk is so awful that someone DC on purpose cause they predict a basement party incoming that they don't want to be a part of.

I'm not trying to start a war, I promise.
Something I've been wondering is, which do survivors find less annoying? Regression or blocking?
For full clarify, though I expect most know what I mean, regression would be things like Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance, Pop Goes the Weasel, Hex: Ruin, any perk which takes away gen progress.
Gen blocking would be anything that prevents the generator from being worked on. Grim Embrace, Deadlock, Dead Man's Switch.
Full context: I play a lot of killers I know survivors aren't the biggest fans of (Pinhead, Alien, Chucky, Sadako) and as a result I want to use builds which give me a good shot at winning but don't overpower your average solo queue group, and I tend to avoid perks I know survivors hate a lot.
I've long hoped for a Grim Embrace buff, since I thought survivors would vastly prefer it to repairing the same gen over and over. Instead you get a small timeout to heal, rescue someone, open a chest, maybe cleanse a totem. But survivors seem to hate Grim Embrace even more than regression.
So I was just really curious, if you could pick that your next killer only could use 2 regression perks or 2 blocking perks, which would you pick?
Gen blocking is less annoying. Gen regression is like having your work ruined basically.
But I'll take either of those any day over tunneling, camping, and unwarranted 4 man slugging for EZ4K or worse, bleedout.

It already is tho? That's one of the reasons why it currently sucks.
I think the bigger reason is that you can't use it til you're death hook *and* you have to be healthy. Would make more sense to activate it in the beginning.

Lightborn too OP, countering a lot of flashlight and perks and possible ways to outplay the killer, mostly you can just slug or pick up survivors while looking in direction of a wall etc.
My suggestion, change into a hexperk, or nerf it so you cant blind the killer in a chase anymore but in the pickup phase for example.
In my opinion it needs a nerf, even though i still think game is hardly survivor sided, but this perk needs a nerf. I had literally 10 games in a row playing against lightborn not even having a flashlight in the team...
When I play killer, I have to wear it since I'm actually sensitive to the animation. There are others who wear it cause of that, too.
I wish the devs would give players a QoL option not to see the animation.

Survivors vs Killer. 4v1. always 4x more people than killer experiencing any given match. THESE are the players you should be catering to. The people who experience MORE of the game should be getting the 60% escape rate. The justification I have seen around the 40/60 killrate-vs-escaperate is laughable, at best. "We want the killer to seem powerful and scary"... Then make the game more scary and fun? Don't balance the game to be less than 50/50? Why is it that the majority of the player base is experiencing losses more often than wins? This makes no sense to me. This is the only game I've ever experienced where I have put in 1000 hours and my win rate is still below 50% (and will remain so, because the developers coddle the killer player base). Please consider balancing for your majority player base and get those numbers closer to 60/40. If that is unacceptable and you still need to coddle to solo-players with a power complex, then at least make it 50/50.
This game has gotten exponentially less fun for survivors, unless you are coordinated and playing with a team. I have been playing for roughly 2 years and I am so sick of each update making killers more and more powerful with no addressing issues that have been plaguing the game forever. Gen rushing, tunneling, map balance, vault speed, heal speed, slugging, etc etc etc. Not addressing core issues like slugging and tunneling (and even hook camping, still (proxy)) seems to be blatant disregard for the fun and majority of the player base. These are issues that could be at least temporarily resolved with simply adjusting some numbers (such as base kit BT, Base kit unbreakable, and base kit kindred).
These issues are annoying enough for seasoned players, but the fact that perks like bond, unbreakable, and windows of opportunity are not base kit is horrible for new players as well. The amount of times I have tried to introduce a friend to this game only to play for OVER an hour and not get a single escape is not acceptable.
The game has gotten so unbelievably frustrating to play for survivors (but even killers, from some community members, I hear), especially with this new update. Weaving spiders is a joke and a horrible perk design, the double pallets and main building on the new map are horrible, and the new killer is incredibly overpowered (speed, teleporting, etc).
I know for a fact this post will be called out by a bunch of mid-ladder killers who feel the need to "win" every game. 1 kill and 2 kills isn't enough. Gotta get all 4 and then leave the last guy to bleed out on the ground while tea-bagging him... That's the thing, right??? Look - When the killer gets to "win", it's dynamic. It's subjective. You could feel good about getting 1 kill if it was a guy who was really good in chase. But with survivors, every person who doesn't get to escape is a real player who is experiencing a "loss".
The inability to guarantee yourself an escape no matter how good you are vs the ability to get at least 1 kill no matter how BAD you are, is stark and easily observed.
The easiest thing to speak to this is how decent killer players can get 50+ 3k/4k streaks in a row, but there is no way to guarantee a 50 (or even 10) streak with 3+ survivors escaping, even with SWF.
Fix this! Most killer players seem to have an ego and power complex issue. I feel as though they are likely being coddled simply because they are the "powerful" presence in the community. They are the ones who have (more of) the ability to be toxic, dictate the sportsmanship of the game, and be a demanding, loud, and uncooperative presence on the forums.
I totally understand this post has a lot of "us vs them" language, and a lot of visible frustration. While some of this may be me just venting my feelings and frustration as someone who has devoted a ton of time to this game, I do believe some of it is also a fair critique. I hope readers can pick and choose what they believe to be a valid critique rather than writing off the whole post/discussion simply because I've been the victim of some really horrible games tonight, and I'm frustrated with the game, lol.
Every day more and more I find myself not wanting to play survivor. And I've only been playing since Christmas.
Yeah killers are supposed to be powerful, but of there's not really a chance for survivors guess what? It's gonna get to the point where it feels like there's no point in playing survivor.
Just like killers wouldn't want to keep playing if they kept losing, same goes for survivors.

Just make it a one time use perk.

Very sad. If there are multiple bps you'd think everyone would just grind together.
-
Obviously not talking bout *all* killers but a lot of you do act even more entitled than survivors. You specifically said "if killers had a 5th perk slot". Just killers?
And all survivors ask for is a fair match. Having all 4 escape isn't an expectation but killers expect a full 4k.

Making players not have collision in the anti-tunnel duration is probably the best solution to it all, killers can't bodyblock you, you can't bodyblock the killer. It would make for very healthy gameplay.
It would keep you from losing OTR, too.

You and the obsession are linked. Obsession will be incapacitated for 30sec after completing a generator. The aura of other survivors is revealed to you for 5 seconds.

You and obsession are linked. You have the ability to see what the obsession is seeing for 5 seconds when generator is completed.
Superhuman strength:

It's an extremely simple logic. The killer can only target one survivor, but the survivors can target up to 3 gen. Since the difference in the number of moves is obvious, there is a perk that temporarily increases the number of moves by meeting the conditions.
Any and every excuse to stop survivors from being able to defend themselves.

Because tons of matches wouldn't get played. Especially with killer survivors dislike.
Think of it this way, most survivors will end up leaving early for going down fast/killer they dislike/have the wrong perks on/teammates didn't do what they wanted/list goes on. Sure killers get bots, but this is an online game and believe it or not killers want to try and outplay another thinking person in a video game and not endlessly loop an aimbot that sees you through walls.
And on the other hand, killers could end a match at any time with no penalty. Don't like how the match is going? Deny survivors any more BP and any of their challenges.
I think they should give us killer bots for that, too. I'd rather people not be held prisoner by a match. I know there are ppl who suicide first hook, but that doesn't happen too often. Now if killer decides to hard tunnel beginning of match they deserve the robots.

I mean yeah, but we also have survivors throwing matches because of several reasons using this mechanic. Even if they get the 4%, they usually wait at the hook for the killer to finish them. It's not so much being able to live with it, it's more the problem survivors circumvent the DC penalty with it.
Why they just need to get rid of the DC penalty, anyways. I'd rather have a bot than someone killing themselves plus I'm pretty sure the penalty probably adds to longer que times, too.

@sinkra said:
If someone dies at 4-5 gens in solo queue it's pretty much game over. Your odds of escaping are so low that it may be better to just have a forfeit button so survivors can move to the next game. If 2 survivors are dead then your best odds of escaping are hiding and hoping the other one dies first so you can take hatch, which seems to go against the cooperative spirit of the game. I was thinking why does it have to be hopeless like that if someone dies which is outside your control? If survivors got a gen speed buff for each dead survivor it would give them a chance to keep going, and would remove the dampen the snowball effect for killers.
This is why hard tunneling is such a cheap move at 4~5 Gens. The game almost always goes to killer when someone dies that soon.

I do think Deliverance deserves to be an option, only because you have to unhook someone else prior, survive long enough to be hooked once at endgame, and be put in a position to have allies help you escape or be near an open gate for basekit BT to get you out.
The 4% though, I believe, is an old relic of DBD that may need to be looked at. It currently helps inflate killrates of certain killers and circumvents the DC penalty for survivors who just immediately give up and don't want to face a certain killer/perk/addon. I do like getting that lucky unhook at endgame as much as the next guy, but that doesn't balance out the prior argument I have against it in my eyes.
Maybe make Slippery Meat the only perk that allows you to attempt it, I dunno.
No I think the 4% is fine. U only get 3 tries so there's a risk attached already and it's very rare you even get to pull it off.
-
I'm sorry but this is absurd. Just like survivors aren't guaranteed to live, killers shouldn't get to have guaranteed kills either.

I'm out here in the wilds of the fog trying to bring good points and valid arguments in post after post to make progress in reducing tunneling and making the game overall less toxic and more fun for everyone.
Then I do play a low tier killer (played huntress for a while to nail these snipes and nurse to train my blinks) and all they can do is tbagging around the exit gate (I don't tunnel so yeah escapes happen). Tbag me on every pallet and still get salty in the endgame chat because they couldn't escape all.
They brought all the boring meta builds, 4 medkits and kept belitteling me I shouldve brought pain res, pop, grimm embrace and noed. How dumb I would be for running weaker perks or something nonmeta. Should've brought iri add-ons.
I wouldve simply ignored it if this was a one time occasion but it happened 3 times just today.
So I switched to nurse for a game after that, got tbagged again (like wth), got the 4k and survivor threw even more dirt in the endgame chat.
Are these people our of their mind?? Do they want a killer who tunnels agressvily at 5 gens with a full meta build??
Are we not playing anymore for fun and rather throw dirt at other people???
This doesn't happen when I play survivor not even in solo-q but when I switch to killer it's like the world is upside down.
I am completly puzzled.
First I want to say thanks for playing fair and sorry you went through that. Fair players should be appreciated.
That being said, there seems to be a lot of bad blood between killers & survivors rn especially on the survivor side with the tunneling being so rampant rn.
I myself am fed up with that, but if I ever come accross a fair player I do appreciate them. Don't T Bag etc. Only when it's warranted.
But to answer your question I think survivors are just really frustrated lately. Shouldn't take it out on u tho.
-
Killers really just want it all, don't they? Gotta get that full 4k 100% of the time by any means, camping, tunneling, slugging and now y'all want a 5th perk, too?
-
Only reason to is if you're in dire situation where everyone's down etc. I mean you actually have a reason to, then and sometimes you get lucky and 4%. Happened to me few times.
One time it happened I literally saved the team. At least for a while. Don't remember how that match ended.

Nerfing adrenaline is a dumb idea. It's an endgame perk. It should be strong. Killers have NOED do they not? And while yes, NOED can be annoying, I wouldn't want it nerfed since it already has a counter.

No, it should not. Removing all risk of early termination from the match completely changes the game. The whole point of playing survivor is to persevere against a more powerful opponent. Removing the killers choice would kill the game.
And no, not everyone who complains about DS is a tunneler, that’s just a generalization of people who don’t play killer much, if at all. Back when it was prominent, I’ve had it constantly weaponized against me when I had no intention of tunneling. It was also used to punish me for not tunneling and giving the survivors an easy game all so they can use it after the gens are done to t-bag at the exit gate.
It doesn't remove all risk and the killer could still choose to chase that person. It just slows down the tunneling.
And you say the killer should still have a choice (to tunnel) but what about the survivors chance? Tunneling very often removes the chance of the survivor getting away. Especially when they're new. It's not just risky, it's a guaranteed kill. And surviving or killing should never be guaranteed. It should be 50/50.

The current timing is a little short, but 10 seconds is too much.
As to complaints about DS, it depends on the timing of those complaints. A lot of survivors weaponized DS before conspicuous actions disabled it. It was entirely possible to be playing normally without tunneling and end up DS'd because the 60 second timer wasn't up, even though you'd already wrapped up a chase with someone else, hooked them, and found this person. 60 seconds is an extremely long time in a game like DBD.
Why I said I know in some situations u can still get DS. Happened to me before which shocked me cause I wasn't tunneling. But if I remember right there were fewer ppl to chase (due to kills) so that's why. And DS didn't save that Kate cause I caught up to her pretty quickly.
So even if it's not 10 secs, it definitely needs to be longer than a measly 3, cause it doesn't help much at all.

People on here won’t be happy unless it’s buffed to work after each unhook and stuns the killer for 10 seconds.
As it should. If a killer doesn't like it? Target different survivors. Only those who tunnel whine about DS.
Side note, yes I know there are situations of DS not involving tunneling like you're chasing fewer ppl. Even then, the ones who complain are ones consistently getting DS, tunnelers.

Unhooked survivor takes protection hit.
But the unhooked survivor getting hit immediately will always be a protection hit.
Still better than nothing, though. Cause there's a chance they won't be hit. I think temporary sprint burst after being unhooked should be base kit, too. So they can get away from killer. For me it keeps OTR up for longer. Even then, killers will still pursue you to the ends of the earth, that's where hook blocks kick in. But if survivors purposely take protection hit, then they can lose it that way, too.
-
Just had an idea. As someone mentioned above, there's fear blocking hooks or something would encourage abuse from toxic teams. But, the game can detect when players take protection hits, right? Can't that be worked into it?
Like a few conditions take protection away.
1. Another survivor has been hooked.
2. Unhooked survivor takes protection hit.
3. A timer. Though I'm not sure how long that timer should be.

I don't think taking away the information would be a good idea to be honest. The less information the killer has, the more they will have to walk around the map, wasting time to look for survivors, which takes a lot of time and pushes them even more towards playing mean - towards tunneling.
It would only make the issue worse, if it affects them no matter how they play. So we would need to come up with penalties that only come into play when the killer actually tunnels and rewards that only work as long as they don't. This would however also require a clear definition of what we consider tunneling.
It sucks cause unhook notification is one of the ways to find another survivor. I get that, that's what I've used it for, it's just that hard tunnelers most definitely abuse it.
-

The BBQ BP incentive would not be sufficient to stop tunneling. Sure, people love extra BP but they love winning even more. And the people that tunnel from the get go typically want to win. So this would not have any effect on them.
Tunneling and gen rushing enforce their respective other but they still happen even when their counterpart is not in play. Mostly because you cannot know how your opponent will play until you see it. You can't really do chests and totems first and then switch to gen rushing when the killer starts tunneling and the killer can't go for different survivors until they lose 4 gens and then start tunneling to win.
This is a hard issue to tackle because everything that disincentivises tunneling or incentivises spreading hooks could have major balance implications and both would need to be carefully balanced and adjusted to prevent people abusing these as much as possible.
Like others have said, it would probably help a lot if they took some hook information away from killer. So they don't know if that survivor's been unhooked or where.

The thing about Tunneling is that a majority of the communities solution is to incentives not tunneling, to give the killers a plus for not doing it. As smart as that sounds, it wouldn't solve tunneling, while just helping killers who already don't tunnel. If killers want to tunnel they will still tunnel. With the event we had with the deep fog I think we get maybe a decent solution there. Make it so killers can't see hooked survivor auras, and when they are hooked the survivor is teleported to a random far hook. That way when a survivor is unhooked the killer can't just head back to ir to tunnel. This would also help against A-hole survivors who like to unhook in front of the killer.
Exactly. Killers should not receive information about hooks at all except where to find them when hooking survivors.

@Xernoton said:
This has been thoroughly discussed before and I agree, that there should be some kind of base mechanic to preven hard core tunneling. However, this would need to come with some strong restrictions because this basically allows a survivor to become invincible. They cannot be hooked but they can still Interfere with the killer. Meaning, the killer would be punished regardless of how they play when that is not done properly.
On top of that DS should go to a 7 seconds stun with further restrictions. But this would also need to come with a compensation for killers. Which is a discussion that many are not ready to have. Tunneling is the most efficient play style. But that is not the reason why we want to nerf it. It's very unfun to play against. But the killer's strength level should not rely purely on what survivors consider fun.
So what do we give the killer in return as a reward for spreading hooks? It would need to come with a slowdown mechanic. But that could be insanely strong and damage the fickle balance the devs have built over the past 7 years.
One more thing though. Tunneling is not the reason why survivors become toxic. Some people are dicks. That's why they will try to make their oponent miserable. You could be the nicest player of all time and they'd still be rude.
That's how I feel rn. 😕 I'm Normally pretty chill, generous etc. If killers had no kills often I give them 1 at the end. I don't T Bag etc. Unless it's warranted like wronged me first, although sometimes it's also to make a derpy exit, accepting my fate and such.
I did back killers quite a bit saying time and time again Gen rushing, and I don't mean normal gen, but all the boosts that could reduce down to literally 2-3 minutes were an issue too.
Just, even if I bring stupid meme build. Gens normal speed etc. the tunneling still happens.
As for what's given, work on reducing Gen rush squads, put bp back on bbq chili. I feel like removing that was a huge mistake.
I agree I don't want survivors to abuse it or become invincible, just want matches to actually be enjoyable for everyone.
Thank you for understanding the frustrations of survivors and taking the time to respond.

I have been playing dbd for a handful of years now. I will admit that when I first started playing it was a bit survivor sided. Now the bar has swung so far to the other side its ridiculous. I have played just as much killer as I have survivor. I shouldn't be able to wipe a whole lobby with a killer with no perks. There is no skill to playing killer anymore you gave just handed out kills now because of the changes you have made to the game. The amount of slugging, face camping and tunneling that is still in the game is ridiculous. Then there are the killers with powers who promote and make face camping easier. Even with this new killer he has clones he can make and place near a hook and then teleport to. I feel like maybe you aren't playing the game as much so you don't see how it has swung so far to the other side. Just make it balanced. Will both sides cry about it probably but that is because it's in human nature to complain. Dbd isn't even fun to me anymore. I use to enjoy the game so much but now playing killer is too easy and playing survivor is either being slugged on the floor or tunneled out. Its sad but until a even balance can happen I must bid the fog goodbye.
Thank you. On survivor tunneling and whole team slug for easy 4k or bleed out are the biggest issues. It's crazy how many I see how many defend tunneling at 5 gens. Like who wants to keep playing survivor if every match ends up the same.

I'm ok with this if they also fix tunneling.

That makes no sense since it's literally worse for the killer if the team gangs up on 1 gen. If you split up on gens they go slower. Splitting up would be more comparable to spreading hooks.
And complaining about gens is like complaining about hooks, which is clearly not what I'm complaining about. It's repeatedly hooking one survivor right off the hook. Tunneling. Not the same as chasing/hooking whatever survivor you see.

Entity Window Blocking was added to mitigate the effect of literal infinites in DBD's earlier patches.
You want to not get tunneled? Improve your chase gameplay, and you'll make the killer get severely punished by losing the game for overcomitting to you.
And on the topic of survivor toxicity, "well they started it!" is tired, can we just stop pretending that's why? The side that's toxic does it to feel superior to their opponent. That's literally it.
I've been working on chase and have in some situations been able to get a tunneling killer to lose the rest of their kills, but in some situations there's literally nothing you can do to stop the killer since they come straight for you fresh off hook before you can even get to a loop.
