? It doesn't affect me because I don't play with flashlights. Doesn't change the fact that it's a nerf. I never said i didnt want it to come through LOL why are you typing an essay to me getting worked up over soemthing that isnt there?

I'm not, I wasnt even the first one to notice apparently. I've been discussing this topic with people in multiple topics, and you made multiple versions of the same topic on the issue.
two*
The first poster is literally trolling because I am not a malding survivor main over a change that is insignificant to my gameplay as I dont use flashlights and they are using that to discredit anything I have to say.

I've been trying to understand your point, since I have been pretty vocal about my displeasure with how BHVR handles PR in the past. I, like most people, think you're choosing the wrong hill to die on if that actually is your intention.
Okay and what is it do with you? You are pestering me even though I explained myself handful of times. Can you literally leave me alone, you even went to a different thread from a different user to disagree with me there. Like just leave me alone

Then where were you literally any other time they've done it in DBD's history? You're specifically latching on to this one change and pretending not to care when people call you out on it. You still never answered how you feel about the Spine Chill fiasco, just that "you'll always do it."
Most of the community understands that all business decisions have more reasons than the ones provided. They generally don't care as long as they are positive and healthy changes. You should have quit this game long ago if you actually cared that BHVR has done this before, and you should probably boycot the vast majority of companies you provide your custom if you care so deeply about it. The rest of us, including the people who this actually affects, will be happy that accessibility was improved instead.
Can i ask what your absolute problem is?
I am allowed to question and disagree with what people do, why are you trying to police me on what i should or shouldnt be doing? LMAO

The colour-blind settings and addressing epilepsy issues should've been one of the earliest changes added to the game. Are we literally forgetting that they nerfed the flashlight because it was TOO blinding to someone without epilepsy?

I guess I misunderstood what people were saying. I apologize for that I thought the change seem like they were going in the right direction for helping people with disabilities.
Don't apologise, it is classic PR stunt strategy that these companies show.
It was bound to happen that they were going to 'do something good soon' because of all the backlash they have been getting recently over their decisions, or inaction at times. (eg. the hacker issues).
This was not a move for inclusivity because that issue has been in the game since launch. It was a move to redirect attention elsewhere.

But if you are not sure how can you call it a nerf?
Im usually open minded about things, and that’s why I was wondering how reasonable the “nerf” was.
Because it is restricting how quickly a survivor can use the flashlight. The numbers don't matter because it's not a debate on how big/small of a nerf it is, it is just a nerf.

Saying they did it for people with epilepsy seems dishonest when they left Clown's bottles, Doctor's shocks, Nightfall, Deep Wound, Plague's sickness, the flashlight blindness effect itself, and multiple maps with rapidly flickering lights, untouched.
They also made it completely annihilate the battery for you flashlight, inexplicably nerfing what was already the weakest item in the game.
That's what I was saying in my own thread about it, some shills for the game found that thread though.

Because you specifically said, in the very topic title, that it is concerning the flashlight change. All of the subtext in that entire post is that you don't like the flashlight change, then you just put a disclaimer that you totally don't care. The irony is that you're complaining about the devs using accessibility complaints from the community as an excuse to make this change for some spooky underhanded reason, when you're projecting by making this very topic and framing it the way you have. The only other takeaway is that you wanted a platform to talk down on the devs and are using a positive change as collateral in your stance.
Deflecting onto other entirely unrelated issues means nothing. Putting a delay on flashlights did not undo their roadmap on how they are going to handle the cheating issue, its not going to prevent optimization of the game, you didn't even mention the UB/Mori changes in the topic title nor your first post.
? I didn't say i didn't like it. I quite literally said I am indifferent to it.
Me saying that it is to buff the killers is an elbow into their side. It doesn't mean I am against the change lmfao

How am I looking for a fight when that is the entire point of you making this conversation? You're misatributing your own assumptions on why the devs did this with no evidence other than how long it took them to actually do something about it. My argument is that they are taking steps in the right direction (even though they still slip up sometimes) so your cynicism carries less weight and serves zero constructive purpose. This topic is literally intended for you to argue with people who defend the devs finally warming up to accessibility options.
Because you are directly manipulating my words.
Your post that I responded to, stated that 'I wished it had never been implemented' when my original post stated from the FIRST sentence that I didn't care for the actual change but the reasoning for the change, which I think is fake and just a PR move to protect themselves from further criticism.
Why do I think that?
They have a cheater epidemic, they are implementing controversial changes (MORIs and UB Basekit), criticism for not even attemping to fix specific killers that had issues for YEARS.
Why would they not make a change that will 'positively' change the game? Especially using the excuse for accessibility? BHVR is known for not changing things unless they absolutely break the game, or until it is convenient for them. Not sure why me criticising them on this, where the foundation of my belief is years of their behaviour and attitude towards changes, PR messages and how they handle criticism affects you so much? Or why you're trying to convince me that my beliefs on this situation are wrong or worth debating?

Ooh I see. You're angry because you can't curse out BHVR for implementing a "killer sided" change without coming across as if you hate children with epilepsy.
So you've pulled the "how dare you make me look like the bad guy" card.
What a Karen move.
What? I literally said I don't use flashlights LOL. I am not affected by the change in the slightest because I am not a user of the item. If I wanted to cry about pandering I would be crying about the mori system and how Otz ended a game in 15 seconds on the PTB, but I don't care about that.
I'd rather the company be up-front and honest that they want to make the flashlight more punishing and a bit more skill-based, rather than to finally take into account the complaints and issues users with epilepsy have faced for 6 years in this game.
Not sure why that makes me a bad guy, nor do i care really.

Yes.
It's neither a flashlight nerf nor killer buff. You seem to be implying that their stated reasons for "nerfing" flashlights/buffing killers is disingenuous.
But it's neither a true buff or nerf, so who cares what the reasoning is? It's only affecting a certain subset of the surv base for reasons that aren't really valid.
But while not perfect, BHVR has addressed accessibility issues, so it's not a total stretch to think that was at least a consideration here. But gain, no one is impacted negatively here for reasons that are worthy of consideration, so the sincerity of BHVR's reasoning isn't all that important, really.
It's not a move that needs justification.
It is a nerf. It's not a huge nerf but it is a nerf in the fact that you will be more punished for mis-timing your flashlight, I am not willing to discuss the nerf/buff or whatever any further though as it's not the point of my thread.
Also, I am just criticising them for hiding behind the community on the change, I never agree with things like that and some users in this thread have taken quite personally to that, not sure why LOL.

Did you make the same argument when they literally did that with the spine chill walkback? Because even when people called them out on it, they would rather have the people affected be taken care of and ignore the fact that their reasoning had nothing to do with accessibility vs when killers have no audible TR. It was an actual case of what you are implying happened with the flashlight change, and most people were annoyed but accepting because its better than the affected players being left unable to play the game reasonably.
I will always criticise developers weaponising their community. Not sure what your point is.
Never against positive changes that are there for accessibility. But intentions are always clear when an accessibility issue takes you 5 years to resolve despite working on the flashlights multiple times throughout that time.

@Ryuhi said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3210016#Comment_3210016
So you think it should just never have been fixed, rather than eventually getting addressed? I don't understand what moral high ground you're trying to stand on here but its shaky at best. It wouldn't matter if they did it because someone on the team thought it would help their chances in that weeks lottery drawing, the end result is positive for accessibility and they are showing signs of improving their accessibility accommodations.
One of the first things that got mentioned about the FoV change as described was that it would further cause issues for people who suffer from motion sickness due to its lack of accessibility options in the game. PTB rolls around, and now they've added an option to prevent the FoV change from happening after being called out on how the auto-adjustment ignored the situation. They still havent fixed the overall accessibility of FoV in the game, but they listened to a concern and prevented the change from making it worse. I have no doubt there are people listening to the community about these things, and it could very well be that its just been a matter of executive decisions no longer stopping them from being introduced and accommodated for where they can.
Where the hell did i say that? I literally said I don't care for the change, I am not saying it shouldn't be implemented. I literally said they shouldn't be hiding it behind 'this is for accessiblity!!!' when if it were, they should've implemented this years ago! #########, what a way to miss the mark, mate.
You are just looking for a fight tbh. if you continue to try to manipulate my words i am gonna ignore you

@IamFran said:
Where is the nerf? The flashlight have the same effectivity as always for blinding the killer. Not being able to use a flashlight to annoy other players with no other purpose than being annoying is not a nerf.
It's a nerf in the fact that it's gonna mean you have to be 100% accurate with your timing on the blind/saves as re-timing won't really work. But that is not my point of this thread.
-
@Thusly_Boned said:
This isn't a "nerf" in any meaningful sense. The ability to use flashlights for their intended purpose (blinding) is barely, and I mean barely (even that word is pushing it) affected by this.
The ability to use flashlights to be an obnoxious ass is decimated by this, but who is this affecting? Obnoxious asses. The issue is what exactly?

You know that "the devs" are not just one person who does not learn, right? It could be that they actually listened to user accounts and educated themselves on the topic. They have certainly had mixed results on their approach to accessability (with a very fair share of quagmires in itself) but if you check in the PTB they even started to carve out a section of the options specifically for it. They are tonedeaf on it sometimes, but that doesn't mean they're not making an effort. Just a slow and sometimes off the mark effort. That doesn't mean you demean them when they get something right, you help them learn from why they get things wrong when they do.
My point is, clicking flashlights, especially to trigger epilepsy has been in the games since the beginning. It's been an issue and that part of the community always vocalised that.
I don't think it's about learning, I think it is just a way to protect themselves. The same way they released the Cheater update upon the out-rage across the community, which was nothing more than powerpoint pictures of 'how many people they banned'.
-
@Ryuhi said:
How are you not weaponizing the topic when you're implying that its changed only as an excuse to nerf, rather than an actual valid reason? Its not even killer specific since flashlight macroing affects survivors with photosensitivity issues just as much, while you're literally turning it into a partisan issue in the post you're telling people not to.
Because if the developers cared about accessibility, it would've been changed to not trigger epilepsy years ago. Clicking flashlights has been a feature ever since the beginning. Not once did the developers care to cater to that part of the community.
I am criticising the developers for not having a backbone. it's a PR message to protect themselves had they gotten backlash.
-
@Iron_Cutlass said:
I really did think the community would at least have some level of maturity, or have the ability to read a single sentence, but I guess the DbD community proved me wrong.
What exactly was changed?
- Flashlights are having a buffer time added as well as some other smaller changes to make the game more accessible to those with photosensitivity and epilepsy.
This is of course a good thing, it makes the game more accessible and available to all, but some people are upset that they now cannot click their flashlights. But overall clicking your flashlight had almost zero effect over gameplay at all for a majority of people, and this change will still have almost zero effect over gameplay for a majority of people. This change only effects a minority group, but it still is a positive change for the community and game.
Let's look at some of the common arguments I see against the flashlight changes:
- "Oh but there are other issues that cause seizures, they just hit flashlights on purpose," just because there are issues does not mean it wont be fixed, it takes steps towards making the game better, and this is just a small step forward. BHVR is known for rolling out changes over time instead of releasing everything all at once, just look at the map reworks from 2020-2021 for example.
- "Oh but people with photosensitivity or epilepsy should not play a game if they fear having seizures," people bring up this argument and not only is it insensitive but overall just proves the lack of empathy of others. People should not be excluded from something they enjoy because of such.
- "But they are catering to a minor part of the community," and who cares? It's more people playing the game, more people interact with, more people that can enjoy something they otherwise couldnt before. It would be selfish to not want these changes because you are admitting that you only want yourself to be catered to, and not anyone else.
If you are actually upset by the flashlight changes, as much as I hate to say it, grow up, go outside, touch grass, because these changes make the game better and allow more people to be able to play without health risks.
I am upset by the change not because it happened but because of their reasoning. It's lame and a PR message just to protect themselves against potential backlash (if they were to get any).

I think this update will actually be beneficial and healthy for the game.
Unbreakable, or other perks alike it were FAR too situational - and were some of the only perks in the game that demanded a killer to play a certain way for the perk to even be usable. I don't think this will impact games nearly as much as others think, especially the naysers in the crowd.
The biggest impact the change will have is on killers that rely on slugging - which isn't healthy or helpful to themselves.

It's not normal. Otherwise Devs wouldn't create perks and mechanics in game that try to promote other playstyles, or try to promote against it :PPPPPPP

So if it happens every game, why not learn to tune it out? T-bagging or clicking their flashlight literally doesn't impact or disadvantage you. It's not a reason to take it out on the next survivor. Also, I am very less inclined to believe you are high MMR, there is absolutely nothing telling where a player can know where they are. Lol

power-role that is dominating in the win-rates base-kit perks (On top of Unique powers).
Citation needed for "power-role". Survivors are by definition of a power role (with exception of Nurse) as they have all the tools to win the game. They just need skill and Discord installation.
1 in 20, but I'd probably say 1 in 30 or 40.
Have you read my post correctly? Survivors literally don't need this base kit perk for the purpose it was created, therefore, it's not needed at all. Yet they are still getting it for some magical reason and will most of the time use it for different reasons than intended by the developers.
If you don't slug, this change won't affect you.
Not an argument. Sometimes you are forced to slug, and sometimes it's a voluntary strategy. This affects both non-sluggers (but forced to slug), and sluggers.
Killers are the power-role, the devs have stated this, and that is why killers are dominating in winrates over survivors. It's as simple as that. Lol. 'survivors have all the tools' so does the killer, goofy.
They are getting UB basekit because they are introducing the Last Standing feature? They LITERALLY stated that in the developer update... It's a measure to prevent killers from trying to prematurely end game by just slugging survivors. Last Standing was added to prevent the game from being held hostage - before you ask for that too.
You are never forced to do anything in game. pls stop. The game doesn't force you to do anything.

You can report on steam, you just need to go into your 'last played with' section, it's very long and you generally need to remember what usernames of ur survivors were to pinpoint the killer.

It's not even just survivors doing it. Seen plenty of suspect killer gameplay lately with people just knowing exactly where you're at all times when they aren't even running any tracking perks or having unnatural movement speed and ending chases very fast.
I guess because it's so common now and it's constantly being discussed on the forums and by popular streamers it's probably encouraging more players to try out these hacks, especially when people just seem to be getting away with it.
Was just about to say this.
Have a friend that runs OOO all the time, so he usually sees if killer has Lethal Pursuer. Spawned in our first game of the day, Temple of Purgation. The Nurse b-lined straight towards said friend, and he calls out Lethal Pursuer. He gets hooked. Later in the match, she went over myself and Yui, who I was healing as she was carrying someone to the hook through the Temple. It was obvious that she heard us, and I walked out of the temple, until I reached one of the pillar + wall structures that you can hid behind. Nurse walks out of the temple, literally perfectly aligned herself with where I was, even though nothing had happened in the match for a good 10-20 seconds and she charged her blink and teleported right to where I was hiding myself from her.
When I died, she had no Lethal Pursuer which my friend called out, and her only aura reading perk was BBQ + Chilli. Which would’ve not contributed to her finding me.
was one of the people that use streamer mode to hide themselves.

I might be wrong here but I think they're referring to times when the "report" button for anonymous users literally just doesn't show up.
It's happened to me a couple of times now where I've went to in-game report an anonymous user and there just isn't an option for it. Neither the "report" button or the symbol of the megaphone is there to click on.
Sometimes that is part of the hack. Depending on the level of the hacker they can make the entire end game screen different than what it is supposed to be
-
@almofan1001 said:
So let me get this straight...
Survivors get free unbreakable every 45 seconds because in 1 in 20 games a Nurse might slug 4 people to end the game early (happens mostly against 4-man overly altruistic SWF which is good). First off, how does that even happen? Secondly, if you got slugged as 4 men, you probably deserved to lose...
Meanwhile, killers literally have to run gen regression perks on every build to even to have a chance to win a game. That is irrespectively on how they play. It's so prelavant/needed for most of the killers that you might even call it base kit at this point.
So why is gen regression/gen slowdown not part of the killer's base kit considering that it's basically a must nowadays to have a chance to win the game?
I mean, you've exemplarily provided why basekit unbreakable won't break the game - unlike giving the power-role that is dominating in the win-rates base-kit perks (On top of Unique powers).
1 in 20, but I'd probably say 1 in 30 or 40.
If you don't slug, this change won't affect you.

Fun fact! You don’t need the player’s SteamID/gamertag! It is optional when making reports.
Just last week I reported an anonymous Nea, and got them banned.
I feel like my reports never do anything if I don't go the extra step, and even then I don't know if there was a follow-up..

Escape rates: The average SWF group, which makes up the vast majority of SWF groups, has little to no discernable difference compared to solo players.

So Survivors, please stop whining about soloq, it doesn't need buffing and Killers, please stop whining about SWF it doesn't need nerfing.
That is if MMR is working as it is supposed to be.

But vieng an swf gives advantages that can't be denied if the players actually make good use of said advantages is a different story. Even if most players doesn't use it effectively they still will fair better then when thy are matched with three random players.
And lets not forget survival rate of swf also has a little dent because there are many people even big streamers that start mememing around and do stupid stuff when they swf
The kill-rate and escape right is about 60 to 40, give or take. If we are using the numbers that Peanits said, and we go half it. (and apparently a 10 +/- is extreme), that makes it into 50 to 50. 2 survivors out of the SWF escape. Also the 'big streamers' that you talk about are not the vast majority of player population so it will make up for less than 5% of the total statistic.

Dodge any lobby with an anonymous mode person. That's what I do. It's helped lower the number of cheaters I've been facing. At least blatant ones
Unfortunately the two that I ran into were the killer. So i had no way of pre-emptively knowing that I was facing those individuals.
