  • One time in pre-game chat it thought that Distortion was a curse.

    Once.

I was telling people all day that I had Distortion and that if they see me bolt that probably means the Killer is aware of them as well. It only censored it in a single chat that day. What type of slur is only occasionally a slur?

  • Yes.

Even though I have enjoyed the game, betrayal of trust like this is waaaay over the line. If I had an incredibly fufilling real-life relationship, but it ended in me getting stabbed, memories of good times would not in any way halt my decision to get a restraining order.

Like how would you feel if you spent 4 years at college and earned your degree then 5 years later they decide to just let the public buy that degree without doing the work? Would you not feel upset? Cheated even? Would it not devalue your degree? I believe it would.

    Dear potential employer,

I feel as if I would fit in perfectly with your current workforce, as I have the following qualifications:

I have the burnt Huntress skin in Dead By Daylight, several Unusuals in Team Fortress 2, and a Blue Partyhat in Runescape.

I will have a strong motivation to get other workers fired, since as we all know my position grows more valuable the less people like me there are.

I will donate to the company, so long as you promise to take no donations from anyone else. You are mine and mine alone.

I hope to hear from you soon, so we may discuss starting salary.

The monster that stalks her during Silent Hill 3 is Valtiel. Similar, but not the same. If I simplify things greatly, he is to Heather what Pyramid Head is to James.

Also, Valtiel never takes an aggressive action against Heather, and actually has a stake in her physical well being. The closest he gets is dragging away her body if something else kills her, but that ties back into the previous point.

  • Can I get original Claire? Please?

  • In my ideal world, Legion's chase music would just be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atKUCxXanXA

With the first couple seconds looping for proximity, and the WEEEEEEEELLLLL serving as the noticed notification.

    ???

Because there is MMR now in the game, it is fine that Deathslinger is overpowered in a chase and its fine even a mediocre Deathslinger gets easy downs on much better survivors? What has MMR to do with Deathslingers power?

Your argument that a very good Survivor should be able to solo a very bad Killer for an entire game has no point, because the game devs have made it very clear that they never want a Survivor and Killer with that gap of skill in the same game. It's akin to arguing that, if Dwight gets a shotgun in the next patch, it should take two rounds to murder non-ranged Killers instead of one for the sake of fairness. You are trying to argue game balance from a hypothetical state where the game is already going against it's own concept of balance.

You completly miss the point. First i am not saying, that "Survivors should not automatically win a 1v1 just because they are equal or sllightly better than the Killer".

They should win the 1v1 when they are much more skilled. We are not talking about equal skillevel.

The point is, that from a survivor perspecitve skill versus a Slinger almost does not matter in a chase. RNG and the skill of the killer is everything that counts. Thats not fair at all.

Thankfully the devs and the majority of players see it the same way, so discussing about it wont really matter on this fundamental level.

The whole point of MMR was to make such a disparity in skill impossible. The scenario you are describing has been considered something that should not exist in a normal game by the devs.

  • Man, imagine an AoE that gives everyone within the radius Dead Hard, and only one person on the team has to dedicate a perk slot to do it.

If you listen closely, you can already hear the screams.

How about we wait and see what the actual effects of the Boon perks are before we all freak out about the mechanic.

Chances are, the bonuses they provide to Survivors isn't going to be that great to the point of the Killer feeling like they're forced to put a stop to it immediately.

Honestly, what worries me about these perks are that I cannot think of an effect or benefit which could simultaneously make one worth a Survivor perk slot and not make it fresh hell for the Killer. Boon perks have to compete with the current Survivor meta perks, while somehow not being as impactful as any of them to the other side, all while balanced around the idea that they aren't guaranteed help and can be effectively 'Lost'.

  • @ThanosPAWG said:

They said in the dev update that they were going to buff some of his add-ons to compensate for the nerf.

Ah, yes, that is the thing I love the most playing Killer. Farming bloodwebs for specific addons to make them decent.

  • Just now? I remember a lot of talk about nerfing Freddy because he was "Boring". Not overpowered per se -- no one seemed really able to point out much bad about him besides the Forever Freddy addon combo -- just that he was "Boring".

Then he got some numbers tuned down, and he was the same except a little less capable, and suddenly that talk largely tapered off. Apparently a weaker Freddy was in some intangible way more... exciting?

The Survivors would be able to bless one of the Hex Totems. This takes the same amount of time roughly as Cleansing the totem anyway.

So if a Hex Totem is converted into a Boon Totem, and the Killer cleanses the Boon Totem, the former Hex Totem turns onto a Dull Totem that the Survivors could re-bless if they wanted?

  • Jared Leto's Joker is already in the game. He throws kunai.

  • @Mandy said:

@Mr_K is correct with the way the MMR/SBMM is working. If you've got a high MMR with a killer, there's no way you're going to be put with people at a super low MMR that would be unfair as you still have a baseline knowledge of the game mechanics, tiles etc. So it would be incredibly unfair to put you against new players, even if it's with a killer you've never played.

If you're playing with a killer that is new to you then your MMR won't drop too much if you're already experienced with other killers - it'll be less, but it won't be low. It will take some time then before the MMR on that killer balances out.

As for the other things mentioned in this thread about "lies", sometimes things have been mentioned that we're working on or even just in the planning phase - these get jumped on and people expect them to be implemented instantly. There's no lies - we're working on things, it's just somethings don't happen as quickly as we all like, other things come up, some things are put to the wayside or in a backlog whilst something more necessary is dealt with. Or for whatever reason, something just can't be done. It's not about lying.

But... my Survivor goes up against clearly new Killers all the time in this system. Like, doesn't have every perk slot unlocked yet Killers. Ghostface running Monstrous Shrine Killers. Doesn't-know-yet-how-far-a-lunge-covers Killers. I'm not the best Survivor by a long shot, but I'm competent, which means that I should be getting kept away from the Killers piloting their character via a racing wheel periphery.

  • The current tutorial matches are basically training mode in a Street Fighter game, but you can only play as Ryu.

And your opponent is always Ken.

And you can't see the moves list.

    And special attacks are disabled.

What I'm getting at is it isn't very useful, apologies if I have been too subtle.

  • I usually have two go-to's:

When he's about to carry another Survivor. I.E., when the Survivor has just been knocked down and is about to be picked up. Either he gets the alert right when he starts the pickup animation and will have even less time to hook and teleport, or he'll have to decide if stopping me is worth passing on getting a hook.

When I'm in a good area for looping, and he's actively chasing an injured Survivor who either isn't as good a runner as me or is closer to death hook. In this case, I am bait to take the heat off of someone who needs the breather.

Ideally I myself would want to be healthy in both situations of course. Doing so while injured is riskier, but depending on the situation may still be worth it.

  • Most everything given to Trapper here are no brainers honestly, but that Trapper Sack addon looks really, really bad. Like, throwing the game even worse then the addons which give you extra BP to throw the game bad. Having all your options at the start means nothing if you cut the potential of those options that severely. If they manage to get gens done you've decided to trap around you could very easily become a powerless M1 killer for the rest of the game; The only way it could ever work is to camp a 3 gen setup from the very first second of the game.

    More at 11.

  • Premonition lets you know that you are looking at the Killer

Spine Chill lets you know that the Killer is looking at you.

If a killer is being looped near me as I work on a gen, but I don't have direct line of sight with him and the runner, I already know that he's over there. What I don't know with Premonition is if he's given up on that chase and is now planning to take me as a consolation prize.

  • One guy got really mad at me for running a "meta tryhard build"

It was Doc with Distressing, Unnerving Presence, BBQ and Pop. Addons were brown Order and Calm.

You could certainly call that setup many things, but never would one of them be "Meta".

No, because there isn't the same cultural history of judging men's worth based primarily on how they look and then devaluing them or ascribing negative traits to them if you think they look bad. The closest analogy for men would be the way media has taught us to expect that feminine/queer-presenting male characters are sinister or villainous -- but that's still based in misogyny and homophobia rather than misandry.

Bruh, it was literally explained that this was an extension of a joke where Quentin's goblin face got him mistaken for a killer.

Your statement seems invalid, spinechill works against every killer for early warning. In most cases it's distance exceeds the killer's tr.

People honestly underrate how useful Spine Chill's super simple function can be, even with other players promoting it. The thing's a permanent fixture in my Survivor loadout. I know if a Killer is suspicious of a gen we're working on before anyone else, I know he's definitely on his way if it stays on for a few seconds instead of just flickering, and while doing a gen near a chase I know immediately if the Killer decides to switch targets to me. While in a chase I also know -- when I get enough distance and/or objects between us -- whether he's still making a beeline for me. The small bonuses to some actions are merely icing on the cake, just being more aware in general is so great if you make sure to utilize it.

  • You know what I find less fun then playing against my least favorite killers by orders of magnitude?

Waiting for another match to be found, after someone decides that this match isn't up to his standards and sabotages it for everyone else.

And you know what I find more unfair then going against the most unfair killers?

Going against the most unfair killers with only two teammates because someone bailed and made the match even easier for him. Thanks, fellow survivor. Really looking out for us there.

It's just silly game mechanics. It's technically considered an item since you have to drop your item to pick it up.

Kind of like how No Mither still spawns blood orbs with Oni on a weird technicality.

Now you get to explain to the class why you think an object which is picked up and used as an item, reacts to item perks, and is classified as an item by both the inventory and score system if you leave a match with it is not an item.

Because if mmr was shown, people would go super-tryhard to get the highest mmr and most games wouldn't be fun.

Correction: Most games for those super-tryhards wouldn't be fun.

If the optimal way to ascend to the highest tier and stay there lording over the common man is found, and the system works as it should, then the people who exploit that should eventually "Ascend" from normally played games and have matches populated by people exploiting it just like them. Think of it as an ELO hell on the opposite side of the rank system.

personally the Lament Configuration addon should be baseline (make its minimum range 22 instead of 16) so that way the survivors have to TRY to find the box, this would achieve the goal of what chain hunt is ment to do, pressure generators, be it due to 1 survivor looking for puzzle instead of gens or all survivors ignoring box to do gens, chain hunt would pressure the gens.

currently you can completely remove the chain hunt by taking the puzzle box hostage. as in NEVER solving it, sure that one survivor holding the cube is being chain spammed but he's not being revealed, all he has to do is keep moving and doing totems and the game is essentially a 1v3 with a powerless killer

While I can see most of this, giving a box holder the job to cleanse totems would be the absolute worst idea. Totems have to be cleansed all in one go - no progress is saved if you're interrupted - and the box holder is going to get interrupted by hooks nonstop.

Pretty much. That is just a ridiculous mechanic. I want him to remain high skill gap. But this is just a bit too much micromanagement. Like, I want to walk towards the survivor, bro. Is that too much to ask?

It's also a rather baffling departure from how he works in the source material, in contrast to everything else for him being so lovingly designed.

Like, I admit I haven't seen the last few Hellraiser movies, but I've seen most of them. And at no point does a Cenobite catch someone in chains, then walk into the chains themselves and go "Aw geez I've really botched this lads" as he gets tangled in them and the victim runs off.

  • @UnluckyDucky said:

Ok so I've had 5 games with pinhead and I'm not seeing the "its easy to dodge his chain" thing. Because Ill legit be behind him and his chain will still hit me... and on top of that theres a puzzle box spawning every 30 seconds so theres literally a constant need to finish the puzzle box, and even if oyu find it he just teleports right to you so whoever DOES do the puzle box is kinda scrwed. IDK. this just seems like 10,000 perks built into 1 killer

If you're actually behind him, then that's a chain hunt chain hitting you and not the ones he personally summons unless it's spawning ahead of him and then flying back behind him. Pinhead has to be looking at the portal he creates for chains due to the mechanics of placing them.

  • I am a bit... confused by the argument that a Cenobite has it's sexuality stripped from them. Are these the same people that giggled at "I came" under the assumption that a religiously passionate sense freak created by Clive Barker was making that double entendre on accident?

The Cenobites as a whole "Species" -- much like almost anything Clive Barker has written -- are overwhelmingly sexual in nature. I'd argue that every one of them counts as non-binary, with a specific definition something normal humans have no proper term for because normal humans would not be able to survive long with it. And while their memories are wiped upon "Creation", it's clear that in some way they do still work off of human urges and desires, even though the limits of how far they can do so has been massively extended. Hell, odds are one of the main reasons we can't have the Female Cenobite as a deluxe skin is that her obvious idle animation could get the game banned in some regions.

Chat is censored, and you can be banned for inappropriate names.

There's no way to police voice chat.

If you want to talk to people, use Discord.

Yes there is, it's already built into the game. You can flag any person post-match for unsportsmanlike conduct or hate speech, and even get a little text box to elaborate on the details. Single flags of this sort are not likely to be acted upon, but multiple reports of a similar nature can and do get people banned even if the specific words cannot be played back for evidence.

But no, maybe it'd be more simple to just get your Discord handle. And the handles of everyone else in this forum. At the start of every match I could go through the entire list and individually invite every single person in the lobby to a call, including the killer I can't see the name of until the match is over. That should be the way to do it.

Or maybe -- maybe -- there would be an option to just turn off voice chat for those who don't want it. This game already has that for every mode of communication besides interpretive dance, so why do you all think it would be any different here? Even if you think that from the moment voicechat is enabled to the heat death of the universe the only thing it'd broadcast is Mein Kampf screamed into a dollar store mic by an angry fifth grader, as long as there's an off option literally nothing would change for you.

  • @Yords said:

    cant wait to hear

"WTH CLAUDETTE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU STUPID PIECE OF POOPOO"

    or

    "FRICKING POS, (death threat)"

    or...

    "(n-word)"

So I don't really think it should be a thing.

That is also an argument against text chat. Or visible names. Or, well, any interaction whatsoever.

At least with in-game voice chat, other Survivors can re-evaluate their priorities with assisting a toxic player on the fly and let things sort themselves out naturally. And let's not act like removing all dialogue fixes this in a game where people can't hear each other but still manage to get angry at people crouching rapidly.

  • I would be more worried about the Nightmare on Elm Street content, honestly. The only other game which has had Freddy Krueger as a guest character under the must-be-reboot-Freddy stipulation (Mortal Kombat 9) has been intentionally discontinued to purchase, and when it came time for DBD to add another Wes Craven icon they found it less of a hassle to get rights from a mask company and make an OC knockoff instead.

  • One thing to note: A lot of those franchises in the OP do not really have a central, easily recognizable antagonist to build an update around.

I personally love Amnesia and Dead Space, but you can't possibly tell me that you want an update where an Amnesia grunt or a Dead Space Slasher are the stars of the show. Hell, it'd be against the spirit of Amnesia to even be able to see an Amnesia monster with any real distinction from *either* side of gameplay. Imagine sitting in the killer select screen and working on the bloodweb of an indistinct blurry smear while crackling sounds build up in the background.

  • @Power_Guy said:

Also; aren't map offerings just 'increase the CHANCE of going to <x> map'? None of them are 100% map rolls...

That may be an artifact from older versions of the game where there were more common offerings which just slightly altered probability in the map's favor. Those were taken out because they seemed pointless, leaving in just the strongest versions which are either a guarantee if not rivaled or pretty damn close to it.

  • The first SAW came out in 2004. The franchise is younger than American Psycho (While the movie was 2000, it's based on a 1991 novel) My Bloody Valentine (Original in 1981), and *possibly* Hollow Man, if you take it as a re-imagining of The Invisible Man from 1897.

  • Honestly, I think it'd be a neat little twist to have a survivor who's just as bad as the killers but is forced to cooperate with them because the Entity passed 'em over. Especially if we can get skinless Frank.

Imagine working on a gen with a blood dripping gristle ghoul, all the while he's grumbling under his breath about the horrible things he'd do to you if he didn't need you. And he's running Prove Thyself.

the thing is WGLF is a free perk you can get by lvl one characher and BBQ you have to pay for the killer and then start lvl. If you make them equal then you just say fk killer we are better.

The same guy gives you No Mither, which is... well, No Mither. In a package snapshot I'd reason that two really good perks alongside one actively debilitating one is fair enough compared to Bubba's one must have and two really nice specific-build perks, and balancing for purchased characters to have strictly superior perks compared to free ones would be blatant pay 2 win and raise rather interesting questions regarding the likes of Freddy and Demo.

  • I'm all for this specifically for WGLF, because it'd also mean that the guy incentivized to make sure hook saves go smoothly isn't as likely to accidentally complicate things for everyone by dropping everything and rushing over when someone closer has it already under control.

  • @Mister_xD said:

    and?

we also have like 14 american killers, i dont see the problem.

Got curious and checked the wiki, it's 10 to be exact.

Demo is an alien, Legion is Canadian (Counting as either 1 or four entries in this list, depending on how you look at it) Plague is Babylonian, Spirit is Japanese, Huntress is Russian, and both Hag and Wraith are native African. Wraith moved to America for a bit before he was taken, but apparently he still considered himself more culturally African at the time, since his designation is distinctly different from Doctor's African American.

Of particular note is that every licensed killer besides Demo is American; If narrowed down to characters DBD can decide the nationality of it's 7-10 non-American (The specific number here depends on how much you think Legion counts and whether category Original-Character-Bloastface counts as licensed) and 5-6 American (With Ghostface once more being a variable)

  • This is why I wasn't too happy at the "Beating the Rift refunds your investment" bit. Because that actually means "We are going to do everything in our earthly power to make sure you cannot beat this".

  • Assuming that the Entity would be willing to interfere so quickly and decisively when killers deviate from it's preferred feeding method, it'd probably just outright kill Myers considering he has builds to ignore hooks entirely and murder everyone for himself.

  • If you see them get in, odds are you can just pull them out before Head On readies itself since it can't be used instantly. I can't tell you how many times while leveling Jane I was yoinked the moment before I could do anything because the Killer didn't hesitate, and how many times I've seen a Killer eat a Head On they didn't need to because they did.

  • Short answer: No

    Long answer: Nooooooooooooo

Old Freddy was the worst to play as and against. Playing Freddy felt bad, because Survivors could essentially turn him off at will. Playing against Freddy felt bad, because it was just a genuine slog. Imagine creating a character who has permanent wallhacks in a hunting game but still is the worst option available by far. I got into DBD to play as and against Freddy, tried to, and then dropped the game entirely for years I was so disappointed.
