I mean it is really strong but you can only have 4 perk slots. Need to have
1. Windows of Opportunity to play the game for you and turn off your brain
2. Decisive Strike anti tunnel but if the killer doesn't tunnel congrats you can body block with it or enjoy the killer playing less efficiently
3. Unbreakable so you can get up if the killer counters your DS body block. You can also negate all pressure from a killer trying to slug and snowball
4: Some sort of giga buffed healing perk like Resurgence or Botany or an Orela perk that lets you heal in 2 seconds
See no room for Duty to Care

Its fun for a lil bit but itd be more enjoyable with randomized items and add ons. Offerings should be disabled too with the exception of BP offerings.

try to learn the angle when the Killer is in animation eg breaking a pallet, vaulting
Aim for the head, if you are on Controller, aiming will be Harder. You hear a sound effect as soon as you got the right angle, then hold it.
If you are talking about flashlight saves, you need to time it, starting the blind as soon as the surv is on the shoulder during the animation, it will need practise to Hit these consistently and killers will try to about it by looking to a wall or anticipating youThe only thing Ill add to this is not to aim for the head, rather the killers neck. Their camera is a little lower than youd initially think.

Agreed.
No one expected the kind of power he has, but they nailed him terms of having a low skill floor, and a high skill ceiling. He also gives survivors something to do thats pretty unique.
The only problem I really have with him isnt even gameplay, its something visual. His chest and ears are just a flat color when his original design has a lighter color on the inner part of the surface.

Speaking of removed content, one of my favorites were the entries that each new killer would get, potentially written by Benedict Baker. They are all available on the wiki to be read and I think Spirit was the last killer to receive one. Freddy's is particularly interesting:
"This place plays tricks on your mind…constantly I question whether I dream or if I am awake. This most recent horrid ghoul seems to bridge that gap – between the states of being awake or asleep. I saw him hunting another poor soul, someone who was not as lucky as me. A man with a hat and a claw clad hand, a scarred man of sorts. He spotted me and what actually happened next is still a mystery to me. Dreams took over, and I was sure to die. But I woke up. Not like in the manner where I awake at the campfire, but instead I just woke up…inside this wretched forest, with memories of nightmares within. I am now afraid to sleep, but also to stay awake."
I remember those! He also did the same with survivors :)
-
It would some times use the female voice for the default as well.
Its just bugged lol
-
Tricksters Combo laughs is probably one of my favorites, very satisfying to hear after landing several knives in a row.
Dredge in chase almost looks "excited" when chasing somebody as youll see its flailing around a little more.
Unknown having labored breathing in the middle of a chase.
A universal one, but every killer (except for Twins lol) released after Blight has a "walking" animation. If you only partially hold down your joystick to move forward there is a unique animation that a good chunk of killers will do.
Another universal one is most of the newer killers have smoother movement, where if they move their head slightly thats all that moves Instead of their entire body.
Springtrap actually having a human corpse inside of him and not what ever the ######### you see in FNAF 3
***THE NEXT FEW ARE REMOVED ONES***
Tricksters knives used to make a "voom" sound when flying by a Survivor. No idea when this was removed and only found out recently.
Huntress would stop humming when in the middle of a chase and instead breathe really heavily. This would be more beneficial nowadays due to there being more Undetectable perks, and Beast of Prey actually gives Undetectable now as well instead of just hiding the red stain. The only downside to this is you cant hear the full lullaby where she starts laughing towards the end of it, but I think the small detail is worth it.
Some killers (similar to the default one) had unique chase music to their own POV. Myers, Doctor, Demogorgon and Oni. Oni truly is a shame since it was a completely different theme from the Survivor POV. There was a bug back when the Twins released that made it so chase music wouldnt fade away after a chase ended and instead it would just end abruptly. When they fixed that bug they removed the unique chase music from these 4.
Ghost Face when in stealth used to have this sound of what sounded like distorted police sirens and screams. This how ever was removed since it made it harder for him to sneak up on Survivors.
Myers had a "close to tier up" audio stinger that would play to the Survivor who was being stalked and he was close to tiering up. This was again removed since it hindered his stealth ability.
-
I played PTB on release day and that was it, only did a couple games as well as Springtrap if I recall correctly as well.
Would of also been running around with the full bloody cosmetics
-
Pig, Freddy and Bubba are probably because of licensing issues, but yeah the rest should probably get their own. Last one to get a unique chase was what Spirit? Nurse? and that was like 3 years ago now

I'm not talking about my experience only, and likewise for your anecdote. Just because you have a small handful of friends who aren't satisfied with their mod lists and need rapid change doesn't mean that's an accurate representation of the majority of players.
You also can mod skyrim on xbox and playstation.
January still stands for your average month metric, but I still don't know what you're trying to prove. Do you know how many games would give anything for 20k players after 1 year? "Oh but it's not one to one exact." I said comparable numbers not the same.
yknow what ok you win 🏆

Your whole first paragraph doesn't make sense to me, sorry.
Look between december and march on your screenshots. DbD only peaks during big events and DLC releases. Without the DLC tourists stopping by for a month, skyrim has identical player numbers. Skyrim actually BEAT dbd in numbers in January. Guess who is staying in between the licensed DLC drops? That's right, the people that actually CARE about dbd as a game and not as a tourist attraction. So no, you're just wrong.
Mods are a big selling point, but they cost nothing. They are completely player driven. They are a base part of the game when you buy it the first time. You also conveniently ignored my point that people who mod skyrim don't do it at the rate that DbD releases updates. Once you have your mod list it does not really change. Saying you can mod your game doesn't mean you change it at a similar cadence to a live service game.
I am looking at the stats, but imo an average playercount gives a much better picture than peak player count. Its also worth mentioning that this is steam alone, which I believe is smaller than both Xbox and PS. I cant imagine Skyrim has that big of a playerbase on either of these platforms due to the inability to mod it.
Terms of the modding frequency, maybe you dont change things up but I have several friends who do switch things up frequently as they have sort of phases every few months. Your experience doesnt represent everybody elses

Not up for the challenge, friend?
I certainly am, if given the chance. Anything for Old Freddy.
A classic mode to revisit old mechanics I would 100% be down, but to just go back to that for a bit... Im sorry but it wouldnt be nearly as good as youd think. We can see this with Overwatch Classic. Theyve done several itterations of this and while it wasnt a 1/1 recreation it was still pretty damn close, and it kinda gets old pretty quick.

People will always complain. My point was those two in particular were probably the only two killers back then whose complaints were actually valid based on the lack of counterplay.
I just looked at the current player count for skyrim special edition, and its sitting at 35k. Is 35k (on steam only) a bad player count for a 14 year old game in your opinion? I would expect a 14 year old game to only get a fraction of players compared to the game that's about to have its anniversary while simultaneously dropping the most hyped crossover in the genre (fnaf). And no, once people settle on a mod list after ironing it out for multiple days, they usually stick to it, or make very small changes. But still, modding is sold as a base part of the game, aka it is a feature of it. You wouldn't call skyrim live service because it supports mods. It simply has a system that allows players more authority over their gaming experience. Most mod lists are engine and graphic overhauls anyway.
So then are you saying your own complaints of going against, and I quote: "blight, nurse, blight, wesker, kaneki, huntress, blight, knight, skull merchant running the most broken builds". You named 7 killers here? When before not only was it 2 killers, but they far stronger than the ones listed here??? What is your point here???
Also I never said the playercount is bad for how old the game is. You just mentioned how their numbers are comparable when they really arent. This is using steam charts for both games from the past year:
Dead by Daylight:
Skyrim:
Also mods are in fact a big selling point of the game, but you also have the option to switch things up at will to keep things fresh which is exactly why the game has lasted this long. DbD keeps in longevity purely because of its constant updates. Had the game stayed the same as back then, I can guarantee you we wouldnt be having this conversation.

Nurse and spirit are a tier of their own and shouldn't be used as an accurate representation of the killers released in that era. Try pig, clown, plague, ghostface. Those are all more accurate representations of killers released then. Build diversity is a moot point because we've added 100+ perks, yet only the same top 20 get run on either side. I'd rather there only be 5 unique builds for both sides rather than there being the illusion of more than 5 like we have now.
I don't know where people get this idea that games need to "change it up" in order to retain their players. They really don't, especially if it's an asymmetrical game like dbd. If your game loop is good, people will play it. "Live service" is a fancy way of saying DLC is the primary revenue stream. You don't need DLC to enjoy a game for what it is. A game like Skyrim is going on 14 years old, and it has comparable player numbers to dbd. If you need the game to change in order to like it, you didn't like the game in the first place.
DbD's soul is the community yes, yet the original community has been sidelined for the DLC tourists. I understand that direction from a business perspective, but that further shows my point that dbd's soul was sold to the fortnite gods.
Im not using Nurse and Spirit as an example of killers released in that era, Im using them as an example as people were complaining back then. "All you see are the same killers! Nurse, Spirit, Blight!". Nothing has changed in that regard.
Skyrim is also not a good example at all and only gets about half the players DbD gets nowadays. I also dont know a single person who plays the base game, they usually mod the crap out of the game to keep things fresh.

People just want to have fun playing the game.
I'd gladly go back to 2020 dbd when moris were more powerful, there was no base kit borrowed time, the HUD didn't show survivor actions, etc. if that meant I wasn't going up against blight, nurse, blight, wesker, kaneki, huntress, blight, knight, skull merchant running the most broken builds on the planet, (1950 blight win streak btw) and proxy camping, running back to hook, and slugging weren't in every match.
There is beauty in simplicity. The fact that dbd has bloated its roster and systems to the point where it is bursting at every crack of course would make people yearn for the game that was more simple. Like other people said, you used to be able to see a killer power and understand it very quickly in a match. Now I have to sit down and read PARAGRAPHS that describe only a FRACTION of what the killer power does. Why don't they explain everything? Did you know that m1ing as Ghostface resets the stalk meter? Well you didn't find that out by reading his power, I know that for a fact, because it isn't written anywhere. If you're going to complicate things, explain them, but if not, people will want simplicity.
The obvious "gotcha" response to that is "well if you're not having fun with the game, then don't play." Sure, but let's not pretend that it's the people who've changed. The dbd everyone used to love does not exist. It has been sacrificed, and this hollow fortnite clone has taken its place. Tomes? Gone. Lore? Screw it. Original characters? Nobody cares. All I ever see now are people begging for the next resident evil dlc, and asking when the other 100 outfits Jill has throughout the series will be added to the game. DLC tourism both saved (Halloween DLC) and destroyed (Resident Evil) the identity of this game.
If you are happy with dbd as it is now, that's your prerogative. But dismissing criticism because, checks notes, nostalgia? A time when dbd actually felt like it had a soul and the majority of people WANTED to play it? Okay lol
See the thing is, people had the exact same complaint of constantly going against Nurse and Spirit back then, who were even stronger, Billy was also up there until he got nerfed, and then he was replaced with Blight shortly after. Build diversity in the higher ranks were almost non existent since the more gimmicky perks you have nowadays were even worst than they are now. Slugging was also very much prevalent since the only real way to combat it was Unbreakable, and you couldnt tell if someone just decided to give up and not recover until you ran up to them. People killing themselves on hooks and DCs were even more prevalent than they are now because there was no penalty of doing so other than losing pips, which no one gave a ######### about since BP rewards werent a thing yet. Not to mention cheaters were also a much bigger issue back then.
Power simplicity is something that I can agree with, how ever for a game to stay alive it does need new ways to keep old players and more complex powers mean it takes longer to learn. This is a problem that every live service game that adds new characters regularly suffers from and I cant think of a solution for it.
I do have problems with modern day DbD dont get me wrong, the last midchapter is probably the worst thing theyve ever done to this game and that's something Ill stick by for the rest of time. That being said, DbD's soul is its community, and the game headed in its direction (for the most part) as a direct response from us. A LOT of the things we asked for back then are now in the game, but even then... its still doesnt feel the same, it doesnt have that same spark.
I do still remember those times (especially 2018) fondly as I probably enjoyed the game the most at that point, even if my PC was a literal dorito that could only run the game at 20fps (15 if it was Doctor lol) but thats because the players and community were so much different back then. If I could go back in time to relive those moments I would, but would I want to go back to 2018/2020 DbD with the modern day mindset? Absolutely not.

To me the appeal is only if you were there for the start of it. The game was really something special at the beginning as this was in the golden age of lets players, plenty of teasers for each upcoming game with plenty of fans theorizing and trying to piece the puzzle together with what little we had. Think of it as trying to get into a new show but you were already told everything about it and had plenty of spoilers.
-
Agreed.
The only real changes this map has received in all of its time is the ######### variations, realm beyond (which really didnt change much), and that one time they tried getting away with an extremely strong window in the 2 story house which was removed like a week later.
-
If we look at the more recent releases most of them havent gotten nerfed after released, in fact they got buffed. Ghoul however was an anomaly, as he was the first killer in years who was contesting the number one spot (last one being OG Blight with his several techs, J-Flick being the most notable one)
Houndmaster received several buffs from PTB to live, and only recently got nerfed (which barely changed anything)
Dracula received several buffs and received a couple of nerfs weeks after his release which really didnt do much
Vecna had received several buffs from PTB to live as well, and got a few minor nerfs later on.
And all of this is just looking back from the last few killers released, and this has been the case for the LARGE majority of killers. And even those who were directly nerfed from PTB to live or shortly after, really didnt have much of an effect on their overall strength
-
Considering BHVRs own IPs are still considered "licensed" (Naughty Bear for example) I would love to see a Deathgarden chapter.
The whole theme and atmosphere of the game was great, and its such a shame the game didnt work out

It was done to make the game more friendly to new players, as the colors are more in tune with other games. Same with how challenges are now called quests.
Which is a terrible reason. All its doing is causing way more confusion. Ive had 2 friends who started playing again after a few months and it just completely threw them off. Not to mention how similar Purple, blue and green all look similar at a glance, so taking a peak at what perks/add ons you have is a lot less clear.
As for challenges being renamed "quests" so its "easier to understand" is also stupid. They didnt rename the Rift to Battlepass despite it being the exact same as other games. Quests could of either A; be renamed to something like Rituals so it at least fits more thematically. Or B; not be introduced at all and keep tomes and challenges the same.
Ive said it before and Ill say it again. If this update had rolled through with the haste and hindered stacking removal, it would of 1000% been the worst update in this games history

Eh.
The voicelines can get annoying fast, and break the very little immersion there is, so I'd rather not waste time on them.
Voice lines done right can add to the immersion though.
Using a killer like Trickster for example, his laugh and taunts add a lot to his character because of how much of an expressive character he is. Wesker and Dracula who are a bit more dramatic are also characters who I think are done right.
The only reason why Survivors seem a bit out of play is because only a handful of them have voice lines. If it was made universal Im sure it would add to the experience, assuming its done right.
EDIT: And done right would mean the characters speaking their native languages.
-
Yknow I always wonder how different some of the older killers would be if they released more recently.
I feel like Pig would be able to put Survivors inside of traps instead of hooks. Theyd be able to escape themselves but leave them with a debuff, or get saved by some one else.
-
Time limited cosmetics that arent just outright purchaseable (such as the winter cosmetics and bloodmoon) are fine imo since you actually have to earn them. Sure you need to purchase the Rift, but youre spending 10$ to get several other cosmetics and you still have to earn the recolors.
I really hope they dont advertise cosmetics as exclusive and then double back later on, its what they did with Howling Grounds and Summer BBQ event cosmetics and that ######### sucked.

Its important to note as well that theres a difference between tunneling somebody right from the beginning of the match, and going for some one who was just unhooked and is putting themselves in a really bad position, especially when comparing it to the person saving them.
Lets say Meg was just unhooked and runs into a deadzone and Dwight just saved her and is running towards shack, the better play is to go for the Meg. How ever if you flip whos running where then its best to go for the Dwight.
Being able to recognize who its best to go for is a skill in of it self, and theres no shame in doing it as its 100% a mistake on the Survivors part

Wait, it used to be a thing? 4 man hatch escapes? #########?
Yup, the hatch would spawn closed once there was more than one gen completed compared to how many survivors were alive (so for hatch to spawn while all 4 were alive they needed to complete all gens). With that in mind it was possible for 3 people to leave thanks to a key even if there was still one gen remaining.
In the early days before the endgame collapse was introduced, if there werent at least 2 gens done the hatch wouldnt even spawn, which could drag matches for way longer than they should be.
You also had what were called "hatch standoffs" where both a killer and survivor would stand on the hatch because who ever made the first move would lose the interaction. This was because closing the hatch wasnt a thing yet, and yoinking some one out of the hatch was a thing.

That's pretty patronizing. I thought his points were valid, especially when the killer role is struggling* to find strength and variety. There have been times when I've played Ghoul and thought to myself "I'd rather play Legion." Legion doesn't lose access to his power, which is the point of picking the killer, just for doing basic game functions like kicking pallets. Ghoul was played over Legion by far because he had greater potential* to be strong and win. But after this torrent of nerfs against him, and now with MORE anti-camp and -tunnel to come? I really don't know anymore.
To say that Kaneki was overrated and just a better Legion is just wildly untrue and Im sure many will agree that still applies after the nerfs. Killers nowadays also dont have trouble finding strength and variety since Id say most of the cast can hold their own in most games. Not every game is a 4 man SWF, nor are they these absolute god gamers who've never seen the sun.
Kaneki having a short cooldown on his power after kicking a pallet is also valid because he has a power that can cover roughly 40 meters in an instant, and you can then hit over small obstacles. The only thing I see Legion doing better than Ken is information, but the positives of everything else basically makes him worthless.
Also to touch on anti camp and anti tunnel, this is a good thing. No one likes to tunnel or camp, they just feel like its necessary depending on the situation. Now imagine a world where it wasnt necessary to do so, itd just be more fun for everyone
-
Im not even a League of Legends fan by any means (Arcane is cool tho!) but Ive always thought Fiddlesticks would be a great addition. Hell he could even be a skin for the Unknown!
