This isn't even going for a personal attack, this is that adding a totem counter to the HUD to bring solos up to scratch with SWF, as well as various other solo buffs that don't impact SWF, is the only way they'll ever be able to actually balance the damn game, but instead of doing that they are plainly ignoring that.

Apparently attacking BHVR's integrity isn't personal. Nice that we're learning new revelations every day that aren't even true.

I agree that a totem counter should be integral to the HUD. Probably more nuanced than just a counter saying "x totems left," just so it doesn't look too cluttered. But it's not the end of the world. If it ever gets to the point where NOED is running rampant throughout the meta game, then people can start equipping small game, considering that DS is just ... not great.

  • No need for such sensationalism. Rarely were you ever using more than 5 dream snares for an actual noticeable effect. Usually, one or two was enough to do the trick.

  • I doubt they based changes on said statistics, but you usually use those statistics to further bolster a position you already have. The amount of complaining about Freddy was inescapable, some of which was deserved, some of which was not.

  • They added a totem counter. That's pretty clearly sticking to their word. Same thing with DS and object changes.

I get it's trendy and cool to hate on BHVR, but there's a limit at which you stop even addressing the issue at hand and start going directly for personal attacks.

  • Really, name one spirit who doesn't run mother-daughter ring in the first place.

  • Keep in mind that you aren't going to be chasing a survivor for those entire 90 seconds; it continues to tick down after you leave chase. Moreover, within chase, you aren't usually reliant on the scratch marks and pools of blood to chase survivors. Even if they break LoS, you can 1) predict, 2) wait for them to pop up again, or 3) listen for footsteps.

Yeah, I mean if we were to compare the best player who plays nurse and the best player who plays Spirit, Nurse is just superior. But, while Nurse requires a certain amount of skill and effort, Spirit requires 0. Anybody can 4k decent teams as a Spirit, whether that person is good or bad.

Well no, Spirit still requires a good deal of prediction. Simply hearing survivors is not enough; you have to accurately anticipate their movements to cut them off.

Against baby survivors, she tramples all over them. Against good, more experienced survivors, it's a game of mindgames.

  • Demo is a very nice middle-of-the-line killer. Nothing outrageous, not too weak.

  • All of these are great but where the hell is autodidact

It’s just a fantasy. A lot of people also these days are incredibly lonely and in dire need of companionship. So they put their feelings towards this “waifu” or that “husbando” etc. sure a lot of it is just fun but deep down I think it’s a bigger issue in general. At least in the west relationships and marriage is at an all time low. People aren’t bumping uglies. Less kids are being made. List goes on. I know this is kinda a joke topic but there’s some hidden issues deep down about it

I was going to upvote this but then I saw you used the term bumping uglies

I'll see you in court for the restraining order

  • The better question is, why shouldn't they?

  • It's not meant to be that great, really. The rate of regression is pretty bad, but pushing it to more than what it is right now wouldn't help in the situations when it's needed most (generators near repair with survivors nearby).

Also keep in mind that gen tapping is a pretty risky idea. Going out of your way to tap a generator is usually a positional error, and you best hope that you have an exhaustion perk at the ready.

There's also survivors that get hit and they say the killer tunneled them. There's killers that hook someone, a teammate unhooks before the killer even takes 2 steps and they call him a camper. My all time favorite are the survivors that deliberately DC because it's a killer they don't like then they come to the forum and complain they got hit with a ban.

Right. And those are the toxic survivors, noticeably different from actual camping and actual tunneling. That's no different from you saying that camping and tunneling are simply constructs invented by survivors.

Camping and tunneling are just words the survivor community made up to blame the killer for them having a bad match.

If I see a healthy and an injured survivor. I'm going for the injured one. Whichever is the quickest to down so I can go back to pressuring gens. I don't keep track of who was hooked last.

If the gates are open, I got one person on the hook, everyone else is healthy and I have no way to down someone else before they get to the exit. I'm going to say F it and secure my one kill. There's no other way for me to down someone else so I'm going to camp.

If it's the best decision to achieve my objective, then I am going to do it. Their feelings be damned. I don't expect them to care about me so I don't care about them :P

Tunneling also happen when a killer deliberately targets one survivor, regardless of health state, in order to get them out of the game in the most efficient fashion. Camping, you may be surprised, also happens when you equip insidious Bubba and sit in front of a survivor, regardless of if they're being hook-bombed or not.

You may also be surprised to learn that camping and tunneling were not terms invented by survivors, or even in DBD itself. There's a difference between refuting a bunch of toxic survivors and being a reactionary, spiteful toxic killer.

  • Better than losing your sec 230 immunity.

Plus, it's just endgame chat. There's nothing so important that you need to say on a videogame. Considering the hellholes of post-game chats I usually see, I'm surprised they didn't do away with it in the first place.

  • Well as you said, they are taking their time. It's really difficult to make a comprehensive key rework, since they're such a simple feature.

  • A categorical "meh." It's just not that great of a game, even for one in its early stages.

  • Nurse if you want to win, but I find her kind of lackluster. Blight is much more fun, for me.

  • Probably. The grind on this game is very rewarding but also very laborious, and I'm equally lazy.

  • You know what they say, nothing says alpha male more than murdering a village of innocent peasants.

  • Somewhat. The new bottles raised his skill ceiling and nuance significantly, and the reload speed change was great, all of which makes for a decent killer. He's not great, but he's quite average. He still is a very chase-oriented killer, however. The speed boost shouldn't be used for map mobility, since it's just not that much of a difference (unless you really need that speed boost, like to intercept a generator with pop). Now, more than ever, his basekit is heavily reliant on zoning and shutting down loops.

    Thoughts?

For me, the big things that stand out are the Resident Evil 4 vibes/inspiration I have a feeling they are pulling from this go around. Be nice if they eased up on the corn this go around, looks like they might if the art is anything to go by.

Survivors better start booping that pigs snoot or else im gonna bring out the NOED

Have the devs confirmed the license killers could get chases themes? We all now the OC killers will.

Also unpopular opinion, but the vanilla chases themes already fit Trapper very well and they belong to him.

Halloween already got one, probably with the permission of the composer (it's pretty much a carbon copy of "The Hanger.") Demogorgon and Pyramid got his own too, but I don't know if it used any motifs from Stranger Things or Silent Hill respectively.

  • I play Spirit a lot so not much of an issue. Give her a try and thank me later.

  • It's probably a more nuanced solution than adding more objectives. The generators are repaired based on how well the killer plays, and how good the killer is. It's hard for regular killers to maintain the pressure needed to stave off gens, but slugging nurses are gonna get 4k's at 5 gens. If the gens go quickly, they fly like crows. If they go slowly, they aren't moving.

  • I will not have the reputation of Oni daddy slandered in this wanton fashion

i think the only licensed characters that look great is Bill, Steve and Ash Williams

Is it just me or does Ash look like Mitt Romney but during the gold rush

  • Similar, but still significantly different from whatever the guy who played Steve looks like.

  • People would get lazy and it's liable to abuse. It's a nurse? press the button. The game is temporarily not going in my favor? press the button.

  • Me. I suck at survivor and the most frustrating thing in the game is when you have the retrospection to know what you could have done, but didn't do.

  • I usually set my name to something like "Bill Spit on Me" or "step on me" so yes, it's very important that I have this communication with the survivors.

Maybe just it's called main event but there nothing special about it other than he throws knives a bit quicker

You forgot that he moves slower than normal.

  • It's a bit self-contradictory to say that it's BHVR's duty to cater to us, but it's our duty to enjoy other games. If those other games are better than DBD, then we would probably elect to play that instead. If not, oh well.

It's also more complicated that high school economics. The video game market is very vague with its borders; people play both FPS's and DBD. In a sense, DBD already has competition; people who play DBD don't exclusively play DBD-esque games. If DBD starts going down the drain, you bet I'm gonna boot up roblox to 'adopt and raise a cute baby" with my hot roblox gf.

Plus, incentive doesn't necessarily mean that BHVR is gonna do better. It's always a double-edged sword, if competition is an incentive or hindrance. It's only an effective incentive if BHVR is getting complacent, which I doubt they are. Video game companies rarely get lazy, since they're running on razor thin margins, and if one title or project fails to garner enough cash, they start sinking. You can keep whipping the horse, but if it's already going as fast as it can go, you're just committing animal abuse.

  • The idea is that it's a "flurry of knives" (that's what's in the game files), so obviously they wanted that idea of a whole barrage of knives thrown at you. The fix is probably to keep him moving at 115% while he's using it. Have it stay up until you activate it, too. A lot of times, it goes to waste because it would be detrimental to you, or at least no better than just normally stabbing them.

  • Bill is actually more handsome than David and I would let him step on me

  • I don't think it was ever lost on anybody that this forum was a terrible dark place full of charlatans, idealistic hacks, the toxic, and sensationalist provocateurs who care more about being right than anything else. If anything, that's every single online forum. It's nothing new, it's a bit late, and it's not going to change the pervasive attitudes in this hellhole.

Sure, but look at a company like Riot Games. They had around 600 employees 10 years ago and even back then LoL was the most played game in the WORLD and that included everyone as well. BHVR is huge compared to the size of their game.

LoL was much simpler than DBD, not to mention still buggy. Plus, they began a rapid expansion after LoL and burgeoned to 4 times that size.

  • It's actually closer to 700, but that includes all employees. In case you haven't noticed, they need HR, legal, custodial, maintenance, and all sorts of overhead that isn't remotely related to building a game.

Even within the team dedicated to DBD, there are separate divisions for audio, graphics, game development, etc. etc. etc. So an even smaller percentage of an already small percentage is working on these.

Then, you have to move onto identifying, fixing, and implementing the fixes of said bugs. Just recognizing a bug isn't enough. You have to find what is causing that bug, and tweak it if possible. Many times, bugs aren't the result of someone accidentally sneezing on their keyboard, but unintended features caused by other intended features. Then you consider that BHVR doesn't have the most experience in running a huge video game like DBD (The proverbial "one glitch gone, 50 glitches added") and it's understandable that patches are dripping out at this rate.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/240704/if-this-was-blizzard-the-pallet-bug-would-be-patched-in-a-matter-of-hours

We know. BHVR is literally one of the slowest developers when it comes to bug fixes and content that exists in modern gaming.

Don't forget that they are one of the smallest video game companies, in relation to the size of their game.

  • "No survivor perk forces a killer to essentially WASTE TIME to counter a perk." This is patently untrue. Old DS would prevent an immediate pickup. Second chances and exhaustion perks extend chases depending on the survivor and killer's skill. Hell, Alert does pretty much a better job than BBQ, but we still see killers going around and breaking pallets.

BBQ is not overpowered in the first place. A simple aura perk doesn't even necessitate that you try to counter it. Even if the killer has BBQ, 4 seconds is plenty of time to get lost, and information perks aren't great in general, since they don't help the killer in chase. Even if the killer didn't have BBQ, they'd still continue on their usual generator patrol, until they eventually did find you. At that point, BBQ is out of the picture and it's a game of who can loop better. The only thing BBQ does is cut down on that patrol time by giving you a better idea of where to look for first. Plus; you still have only a 1/3rd chance of being chased with BBQ; three auras of BBQ mean that they could very well go for the 2 other people.

Don't forget that people aren't robots either. The killer is going to make mistakes and the killer is going to be unable to process all the information given to them. Simply knowing where you are is great (sarcastically), but the real question is, what are you going to do about it? There is only 1 killer, and the killer can only chase 1 survivor. Even without BBQ, they would have gone on the patrol until they found a survivor, so it's not like it enables a brand new game-breaking playstyle. The killer isn't going to be crunching numbers to deduce who is in the most sub-optimal looping spot, who would be the easiest catch, or the exact progression and calculation of how they will mechanically down, hook, and pursue other survivors in a complex tree of possibilities, they're going to see three auras, and move towards one of them.

If you insist on mind-gaming BBQ, instead of moving for 4 seconds (usually do 4.5 seconds just to be safe; the auras fade out and so they'll get a glimpse of you if you turn at the very end), try standing still or doing a generator for 4 seconds, and then moving away. It's usually more efficient, and works better if you're setting up a stationary decoy. Lockers aren't bad either; I don't see what you're exactly complaining about with them.

One last thing; get off of the soapbox. Tunneling and camping are not exploits. Exploits are when you find a vulnerability or an unintended feature/bug that allows you unwanted access. The devs have stated multiple times that tunneling and camping are meant to be in the game. The point of these perks is to punish these scummy playstyles, but there really aren't any perks that are going to directly counter them. DS never did work against hard-tunnelers, and the recent nerfs made it useless beyond belief, BT will delay the inevitably, but if you're getting camped, you're getting camped. Unbreakable has one token. One free pick-up isn't going to make a killer say, "Oh jeez, I'm so sorry," if they're knockout slugging everybody. If you want to invite people to a civil discourse, then you yourself have to be welcoming.

  • All I'm going to say is that Twins are 100% viable, they're just a bit questionable to play.

Also keep in consideration that COVID happened during these times. It's hard to coordinate effectively while working from home.

  • Because Blizzard is a huge giant billion-dollar revenue company who have had years of experience with multiple big titles and can afford to have a team dedicated to bug-patches and hot fixes.

Meanwhile, BHVR is much smaller and much less experienced. This naturally means that their capacities are going to be much more limited. They'll probably try to address it in the 4.6.1 bug fix, but realize that you can't just wish away a bug and then have it excised without any other complications. It's a more investigative and laborious process than just punching a few buttons. As much credit I have to give to the devs for creating the game thus far, it is, euphemistically, buggy as hell, and they aren't the most experienced.

  • Nurse really isn't that bad. Looping Nurse is more fun than any other killer, mostly because I'm a rank 5 survivor and all the nurses I get are kind of "questionable," but juking out a nurse and losing them is the most exhilarating experience in the game.

  • No amount of blood points is going to have killers elect to voluntarily play against SWFs.

Don't fall into the sensationalist trap; the issues with matchmaking are much more about MMR and solo queue than they are with SWF. The only solution I'd really suggest is to let you know if you're going against a SWF, and who is partaking, so you can equip your sweaty build (or just facecamping Bubba).

  • WGLF obviously, but if you hate having to take protection hits for a teammate who can't loop and goes down in 10 seconds anyways, prove thyself or DS. The former helps you get cooperative action blood points quicker, which usually take a long time to get working, while DS grants like 3 score events for a total of 3k, and also makes you the obsession (which grants you bp in itself).

  • It better be shirtless Myers or I'm going to cry.

  • We'll never know until we see is usually a good manta to live by, but we can deduce that although these changes will certainly help trickster and make him more viable, it didn't directly address the main issue with him, being that you don't always have the opportunity to throw knives, and at some places and loops it's just better to M1. If you're close enough, you might as well M1, and if you're at certain loops, like pallet gyms, you can't get enough knives in to get a down, if you can see them in the first place.

The knife draw up and throwing speed, in addition to the wonderful recoil removal, certainly indirectly helped with this, but he still lacks luster at loops.

  • The unfortunate part is that most issues transcend a simple POV fix. Just because trapper's traps were reworked doesn't mean survivors are completely guaranteed a good and fair time. Really, it's just so hard to find balance in an asymmetrical game that it's guaranteed to run into problems along the way.
