  • When I play on Ghostface or Pig a lot of times survivors will destroy me, I will sometimes play like crap intentionally just to depip (But make it look like I'm trying. You know bad slugs, suddenly 'losing' survivors and acting blind, wiffing attacks.) You would not believe the amount of people that despite getting everyone out will tea bag, flashlight click and wait at the exit despite the timer going down until I see them brag about their success. Many survivors will even hunt me down just to remind me I'm #########.

My rule of thumb is if people play nice when I'm on a failing killer, I'll play nice if they're having a bad time.

Not once has a survivor given me a free kill because they pity me. Not once have they ever decided, 'Nah I don't need these 5000 bloodpoints.' It just never happens. At best they will drop their item behind as a show of respect.

Why should I give the hatch, if survivors wouldn't do the same for me?

I mean I will give the hatch depending on my mood, but there is a stark stark contrast between what the survivors are expected to give versus what the killer is. I don't even know that I've ever seen survivors told to give the killer a free sacrifice if you're destroying them.

Maybe I might make that thread... Hmm.

  • I equipped the pride flag because I liked the colorful trinket, support for the LGBT community wasn't my priority at all.

    It's only incidental that I'm a lesbian

  • One of my friends hates noed so much that they run detectives hunch every game. I love playing with them because we never get cleaned out by noed and I feel so smug about 1 survivor perk absolutely destroying 1 killer perk.

We used 6% of our perks to destroy 25% of theirs.

They didn't. They were hiding around the corner looking for the person that was over there. Also, I say 12% because every attempt is 4% I got off on the third try. I don't waste offerings and items when playing solo, especially with console players.

If I'm not mistaken it's still only a 4% chance because statistics aren't additive. Each pull is separate from each other and still a 4% chance.

But considering it's 3 pulls with any of them being the singular result you're looking for I don't know if the gamblers fallacy applies here.

    Does anyone know?

    1. Open the previous page in a new tab and scroll down to the post you want to quote
    2. Right-click the word Quote at the bottom of their post and select Inspect (Firefox web browser)
    3. Copy the contents of the data-scape-url link and come back to the main tab
    4. On a fresh line, paste the link and press Enter.

    Thanks for the tip

end game Trapper seems like a good fit for him, honestly. Trapper kinda does his own thing to begin with so it's nice to see a playstyle that's not concerned with generators.

What add ons do you use? The resetting one would probably be a mean one

Trapped bag and whatever else looks interesting at the time.

I played with my food a bit too much, I let two of them live until the last gen was done and really wanted them to see my 'No way out' proc. They saw it, one DC'd and the other immediately hatched. I still consider that a solid win.

    image.png

  • I've been using an endgame trapper build. It's fun because for the first 80% of the game I'm completely perkless, then the fun really starts.

    So many people hate it.

Noed, No Way out, Remember Me, and Blood Warden.

Plus there are traps set on the exit gates and Noed.

  • Once I had a theory that a Leon had spine chill so I walked backwards all through badham preschool and when I got to the gen he was shocked as I 180 and decked him in the face

  • When will devs nerf *squints at page* using movement controls to win?

  • You're Ghost Face, if you're not being a dick you're not even in the right mindset. You gotta get in Character, Ghost Face is so low tier it absolutely is permission to be a total shithead. Take a few swings while they're on the hook, teabag their happy ass.

Your eyes are opened now to the possibilities. If you're toxic on a sweat killer nobody will like you, but if you're toxic on ghost face you don't even care.

  • My god you guys even name your builds that's so cute.

Yesterday my end game trapper build got compliments from a swf. Apparently it genuinely got their heart racing because first no way out and remember me was in play, then as they were trying to escape blood warden proceed.

So now they had 3 people with no way out, one person on hook, and me patrolling like a beast while they were trying to avoid me and my traps.

They managed to go for the rescue while I was checking the unopened door. Then I beelined for them. Two got caught in a trap, one untapped them both, then they got snagged by another one right by the exit all the while I'm racing to them to beat their injured asses.

I felt like a failure because I got no kills, but when they said they haven't felt so terrified in dbd before I felt so god damn good.

  • The poor Slinger DC'ed too. I reported him, don't worry.

You reported the deathslinger? Serves him right!

  • Claire, but I haven't gotten her skin yet. $25 for the chapter dlc plus claire skin is prohibitively expensive for me

  • I don't like FNAF, to me that game marked the biggest decline in the horror game genre in a long while.

Now instead of having games with good story, unnerving environments and tense encounters we now have streamer horror. AKA jump scare hell. I feel like FNAF is a major contributer to that trend.

Sure for the audience watching your favorite personality get startled in an easy to absorb context is fun, but as someone who doesn't watch streamers at all I want is a game that can make me distressed and uncomfortable, a game that makes me want to turn the lights on in my house or feel an itch on the back of my head as if someone were watching me. I enjoy horror as a media to feel scared. All these jumpscare games do is startle you.

A child hiding behind a door saying "boo!' can startle you. It doesn't make it scary. So for me I have more disdain for FNAF than I rightfully should because most horror games that come out now are jump scare hell with none of the effort of making something genuinely scary. So if FNAF comes to DBD I'm just hoping they don't make his power jump scare based, but they probably will because I mean... What else does that game even have?

Tldr; angry old woman screams at the sky wishing to return to a better time that never existed.

If I've said it once I'll say it again, it's the survivors fault. The game is about the killer hooking as many people as possible.

If you got spotted and hooked, and I see you again, Yes I'm coming after you.

Also let's clear something else up, it doesn't help the survivors case when some players go out or their way to find the killer taunt them, teabag, and dare you to chase them.

You do that you can bet your last dollar I will make sure you don't exit. I'll let everyone else go just to teach you a lesson.

Teach me a lesson. Do it. I've been trying to get better at being chased, and I taunt click and teabag to get the killers ire.

One day I'll get tunneled the entire game and still manage to escape.

  • You can check ping in the lobby?

    That's indeed Mad Grit.

Sweet! Thanks. There are so many perks it's hard to tell the difference between potential hacking or just a esoteric perk.

  • I mean it honestly feels like a balance. You lose horizontal FOV for vertical FOV. Being able to see at the sides of your vision is so important as prey that most prey animals dominate in peripheral vision. You trade the ability to loop for the ability to have more situational awareness overall.

  • Actually that is a good question. Mathematically there has to be an optimal route to figure out the shortest path to explore the most amount of areas that is applicable in most situations. You'd just have to control your starting point, figure out an end point, and figure out the best path to sweep the most visual area in the shortest time.

I would suppose this means picking a starting point that has the highest visibility of the most area while making sure your end point is in more hard to see areas like behind walls and inside buildings. If you eliminate impossible areas for the hatch to spawn and then assume all other locations are completely equal that would be the way to go about it. Since then you would be able to sweep a much larger percentage of the map in the shortest time, while spending the majority of the time looking around tighter areas (A smaller overall area) as the hatch is certainly more hidden.

This is in addition to trying to pick the shortest travel route to hit every location with that priority in order. It could be similar to the traveling salesman problem. Additionally I know that ants have been observed to have the most optimal routes when scouting for food in relation to how many ants are in the hunting party, and their formations can absolutely change depending on conditions.

    -

All that said, it's DBD so we can throw all that away and treat it like totems. That is to say we can probably assume each map has a place or several where it's pretty much going to spawn at and nowhere but those designated locations.

  • I kind of want to try to run a vpn to see if it makes a big difference. How does it work

  • I had like 50+ cakes on Cheryl and prestiged her because my brain likes to be empty in moments of critical consequence.

  • Only a coward and poor winner t-bags to mock at the end of the game. They need the comfort of doing so only once they're assured they've definitively won.

It takes a person of real virtue to be toxic and t-bag at the start of the game.

I am ready to be tunneled! Bright colors, broken key, and all my IG strats will guide my ass to an early hook.

    Edit - Success!

  • Thank you all so much for the advice. With your help I've managed to get my aforementioned friend out of the gate in several games. A couple of times she never even made it to struggle. The losing streak is over for today at least. Some advice I still haven't tried but I'm eager to.

Some of the advice is kind of scary though, by putting myself at such a disadvantage I fear not being quite good enough to be able to lead a chase from that. Guess I'll learn or die for my hubris.

I'm not going to deny that there is a "cringe factor" when I listed these "rules", but for my part... unlike most other posts that do what they can to state "rules", I am not, nor have ever been a patron of 1 side or the other, as I firmly believe that this game can't survive with only one side being favored (ultimately, IMO, that's what killed Evolve).

By all means, if you only played by Rule 1, no matter how anarchistic your stance on the game is, that alone should be enough.

I worked hard to try and ensure that this list contained a guide for how to be a "good player", without taking sides. I Know this list is a long one, and an exhaustive read, And I understand your furstration for seeing "another" post like this, so maybe I should a a TL;DR at the bottom for everyone's convenience, but ask yourself... if there were any rules you could get behind, are the ones I've posted here among the best or the worst you've encountered?

I really value your and other people's input on this, as it only helps me develop a stronger list that I hope everyone can get behind, but are never obligated to.

TLDR. Don't be an #########, and don't be a pushover either. People on the opposite side will try to bully you into certain playstyles that only advantage them to your detriment, but you shouldn't concede to their poor sportsmanship, and neither should you be a poor sport if you can help it. Tactics people hate are valid and that goes both ways, try to have fun because at the end of the day this is just a game.

For better or worse, as a killer you could give less of a ######### about how much fun survivors are having. However as a survivor you need to take the needs of your team into consideration or accept damnation.

    That sum it up?

All that said, I appreciate you making a guide in your own words to try and help introduce new players to the game. It covers ground already established by tons of other people, but the message still rings true. People will roll their eyes because we're old timers in this game, we see these guides all the time and have an instictive fight or flight response to 'survivor handbooks' but you tried to avoid it by giving consideration to both sides with the goal of encouraging a healthy long term gameplay experience.

I'm not new, but thank you for the exhaustive post! the only thing I disagree on is the alleged suicide! it's a game dynamics, I can try to free myself, I'm allowed! if the 4% chance doesn't agree with me, I die on the hook! If camping, tunneling, slugging, or gen-rush are game mechanics, even trying to free myself from the hook alone is! for everything else I agree! having fun is the only thing that matters!

Like what this person said. Sometimes suicide is the right answer. If you're on the hook, and the killer slugged someone else who was near or on the hatch with you on struggle. Then letting yourself die is the right answer.

Could it be because 4 is a spooky number in certain Asian cultures?

I think that might be it

  • When is it getting announced?

  • Noed, Fire Up, Blood Warden and what's that last one?

    Edit: No Way Out.

  • Had a game earlier today where I placed a dying Meg in front of the Devour Hope that I used to Mori her with. Then a Jake Park walked up and cleansed that totem.

I found him, downed him. Dragged him back to the dead Meg/Broken Hex, teabagged him, swung at him. Then let him go. (He was the only one who escaped that match)

A few games later I was dead set on getting 8 hooks and letting everyone leave. A Meg tea bagged me mid chase so I was going to let her slug ass crawl to the open exit gate all the while slamming my delicious Ghost Face booty all over her head. Jake had other plans in mind as he tried to save her. So now we had two slugs racing to the exit.

Everyone escaped as planned, and the Jake exclaimed, 'This is the same guy from earlier!'

Apparently they were a SWF. Good times in post chat again.

This is exactly the kind of stupidity I'm all about. I love being able to give myself permission to not take things too seriously, and ghost face was clearly the answer.

  • I hit who I see. If I tunnel I tunnel, if I don't I don't.

A hook counter that works may help me be more conscious of it though.

  • He looks like a junkie hobgoblin. When you're a killer you often feel like you're killing people, when facing Quentin you feel like you're ending a gremlins suffering and the suffering of those who have to look at him.

Honestly when I first saw Cheryl since I'm not too familiar with her series was 'she has a white shirt, she's going to be easy to spot if I play her' but you know my games with Cheryl are alright. She's a good bean. I'd probably buy the Alessa Gillespie cosmetic if I were to main her though. The character sounds ominous but she's cute and can be a sneaky sneak if needed.

Oh man I love the entire story arc of Heather. I could talk about it all day and still not be out of things to bring up. The cool thing about Silent Hill is that despite the fact that Silent Hill 3 brings back the cult it still has a lot of influences from Silent Hill 2 in the concept that the town is a living entity that has a will of its own.

    (Spoiler alert.)

With that in mind Heather is a 17 year old girl, with a lot of the cliches and tropes of women that age alongside it. She's in a spot where she's mature enough to act as an adult, but still young enough that she still desires independence, yet still depends on her father for emotional supports. Heather also gets these wild bursts of emotion and acts impulsively. In other words, at the time this game was released she was an atypical horror protagonist especially when it came to video game horror. When I first played Silent Hill 3 I too was a young girl, and Heather seemed a character I could relate to (And at the time I thought she seemed way more adult than me. As an adult I realize how immature she really is.)

When her Father dies she resorts to rage and a desire for revenge, even when she's offered a breadcrumb trail about being told the circumstances of her birth she disregards all of that because she doesn't need all these adults trying to get in her head. At her core, she's a woman at the most confusing point of her life and she's trying to understand what is going on as the entire world is collapsing all around her.

Even the town takes some malicious glee in tormenting her as a teenager. Showing her distorted images of herself, getting letters from 'stalkers' or unwanted calls from strangers, and even the theme of the cult (Trying to forcibly impregnate her) are very real fears that could apply to anyone at a point in Heather's but magnified tenfold. She doesn't know who she can trust, the only family she knows is dead, and she still manages to fight these literal monsters from hell, cut through the bullshit of a cult that drank way too much kool-aid, gain inner strength from her own resolve, kill a literal god (that she was forced to birth, even if Claudia finished it) and still move on with her life with the only adult she learned she could trust through all of this (Douglas.) She is a very strong and likeable character not only despite her flaws but also because of them.

Side note - I'm surprised that PTSD was not in her storyline in the DBD 'After Silent Hill' Lore, and instead she turned to help people. It seems a bit uncharacteristic of her to want to help others, but to be fair we don't really know that side of her since they really didn't make character models of people who weren't severely plot relevant (Silent Hill does love their limited cast) and there wasn't a lot of time to get to know her. Since, at the start she's running from a man she doesn't know who said he's been following her, then monsters form, then her father gets brutally murdered by the cult, then revenge and hate time.

How is that the killers fault that their team didnt spread out gens?

I mean a lot of killers will identify a 3 gen at the start and defend it with their life.

  • Once I had played a game against a crew that absolutely were better than me in every way. Gens were flying by and I could barely get a down.

I ended up tunneling the one I could get, then slugged him to get free hits in before killing him all the way. Man I played so mean.

I camped the next one then snowballed to victory. At the end I was able to watch their stream and see it from their perspective. Was an interesting take. I then apologized for the sweat, explaining they were so much better than me it was the only way I could have hoped to get any bp.

They invited me to play a few games with them. Was pretty chill.

  • Yesterday I ran into a breakdown SWF. They hung around the broken hooks knowing I couldn't do ######### about it. After the third one in a row wiggled out I decided "alright you want to be slugs? We can all be slugs."

Ended up being the best choice I could have made since I went from 2 hooks at 4 gens complete to a 4k really fast.

If they didn't force me to slug I don't think I would have etched out that win.

They were so damn livid. For me it's like, "what was I actually supposed to do? What was the survivor handbook play here?"
