Wasn't Genetic Limits slanted for an update?
Did devs forget about it or did I change realities without noticing it?
It might be in with the big perk change bundle coming in autumn.
-
They don't care about what happens outside of the game, that's not their territory.
-
It'll probably be the regular 3 times.
7 Kobe Attempts with Slippery Meat would be so funny though, I love running that perk from time to time even if it kills me more than it saves me.
-
I don't think they'd do that since Technician exists (which sucks, both of those perks are terrible). They don't want the perk to replace it.
What they need to do, with this in mind, is make it apply to any Survivor within 16m of you (so you aren't forced to be doing a co-op action, Survivors healing you would be protected by the perk for example), and allow it to apply to special skill checks, like Oppression, Merciless Storm.
That way it'd be able to activate more, and you wouldn't have to deal with randoms failing skill checks while healing you (which is a lot more common to see than I'd hope).
Technician should also have it's penalty reduced. It should reduce the amount of progress lost when missing a skill check, not increase it.

Boy I didn't say you "said" anything, I was just stating a fact. And it being "rarer" (not rare btw) is based on personal experience, which is not wrong, and again nightlight does not track every single use as data needs to be manually added, therefore again just because you personally see it once every match don't mean it's common for everyone else.
Your personal experience doesn't mean the perk isn't common, though. It's pretty objectively one of the more common survivor perks.

But then it's not as common as let's say Windows of Opportunity, or exhaustion perks. Even using the unofficial Nightlight tracker, Distortion isn't even in the top 12 most used perks, meanwhile killers have several aura perks. Granted this is not a perfect tracker but it paints a picture on perk usage. I can go multiple games and not see the perk at all or be the only one running it, it's often rarer then we think.
I never said it was as common as Windows, but to say it's rare is completely wrong. Windows is literally the most common perk at the moment so literally every other perk isn't as common as Windows.
Also Nightlight lists Distortion at #10:
It beats out 4 Exhaustion perks in use rate.

My guess is that they nerf it the way most people want: recharge during chase. Which is a bad idea, since that is basicly saying you need to give a hook state for free to the killer. Because, yes, you will go down eventually during a chase.
You're really telling on yourself if you're saying you go down in every chase.
People don't really commit to chases indefinitely anymore. They drop you if you're too much trouble.

There is no limit on nerf severity, just look at Ultimate Weapon for pete's sake. The perk went from one of the best tracking perk (one which got around Distortion and gave an option for people fearing Distortion) into one of the most worthless perks in the game, I'm not sure I've seen this perk outside of people doing adept since the nerf and understandably so. It needed a small nerf sure (limit the number of screams, make recently unhooked Survivors immune for some time, maybe limit it to LOS in order to keep in theme, there were so many options) but instead of keeping it viable but adjusted it was nuked from orbit.
Hell, Ultimate Weapon being erased from existence is arguably one of the reasons/excuses why Distortion complaints increased since now there's one less way to get around Distortion.
Ultimate Weapon is only the most recent example that comes to mind, many perks were destroyed instead of adjusted on both "sides".
Just making the perk take longer to recharge should be enough to make burning through stacks easier and making aura-reading easier. Or hell, if the goal is truly to only prevent rats and not just to delete the perk and pacify complaints then tie recharging tokens to gen progress; rats won't be able to hide forever if they don't do gens.
I mean, yeah, but Ultimate Weapon was an extremely problematic perk, much more so than Distortion. I'd be surprised if the nerf to Distortion completely obliterated it, instead of having it be toned down a bit.
It's also pretty unique in what it does, unlike Ultimate Weapon, which is one of many tracking perks. The only really comparable alternative is Object of Obsession, but that doesn't support a stealthy playstyle.
I'm leaning towards the outlook of that it's going to get a minor nerf for these reasons, but we'll see, I guess.

I'm gonna miss Distortion, no longer will I be able to avoid NTH/BBQ/Lethal and be a sneaky gen-doer or go for a sneaky save against proxy-camping Killers (after all, almost every time BHVR nerfs a perk it might as well be removed from the game barring a few exceptions) or reduce chances of getting cross-mapped 5 seconds into the game or 2 seconds after being unhooked by Huntresses or maybe surviving a decent Nurse for more than 20 seconds, guess people complaining won in the end. Might be forced to run OoO or OTR instead so I can still somewhat deal with the bajillion aura-reading sources and be able to call out perks for teammates (when available). Guess the devs truly gave up on stealth being a thing, f newcomers/casuals and indirect Nurse & Huntress buff I guess. Certain perks (Gearhead absolutely destroys Distortion and it doesn't even need another perk alongside it) and Killers (stealth Killers or just Killers using stealth perks) make Distortion nearly useless and it's a dead perk slot if the Killer doesn't bring aura-reading.
"They may not gut the perk entirely." Yeah right, it's BHVR we're talking about and the only way to make people complaining about Distortion stop is to kill the perk. Also making the perk recharge only on chases, like some are saying, will make the perk utterly useless for newcomers/casual players since their chases (which will 95% of the time end with them on a hook anyway) won't last long enough to make the perk recharge while experienced Survivors will be able to get more value (an unfortunate pattern) due to their chases being overall longer, this will also mean that weaker/M1 Killers will (again) get screwed over more than the powerhouses since their chases tend to be longer. The only acceptable nerf (which would make the perk still viable but less annoying for Killer players that can't find a Survivor without aura) is to make the tokens recharge slower to make recovering tokens harder and riskier.
You do know Lethal was hard countered by Distortion even before it got buffed, right? There's absolutely no way they nerf it to the point where it's worse than it was on release in this case.
You mentioned that adding a chase requirement will make the perk useless to new players, but if you're so bad to the point you go down in less than 30 seconds in each chase, then a) you probably need to get at least a little bit better at chasing and b) you start with 3 tokens, so the perk isn't really utterly useless. It's release Distortion at the VERY worst (which was an ok-ish perk, honestly, I ran it a bunch back in the day).
And, like, the progress carries over if it stops charging, if you have a collective chase time of less than 30 seconds for the ENTIRE trial then you probably have bigger things to worry about than Distortion tokens.

Here he is saying Freddy's don't stack.
Start at 1:58:40
Killer addons that apply the same effect for a fixed duration do not add their timers together. This mainly applies to Status Effects and Aura Reading.
In the case of the blocks, Running both Unicorn Block and Sheep Block will not cause a Survivor to be blinded for 150 seconds, it'll take the longest blindness timer and use that one (90 seconds).
Likewise, with the Dresses, the Green and Blue Dress aura reading effects do not stack. It'll only take the longer timer for the Blue Dress, which is 4 seconds.
However, the skill check penalties DO in fact stack, just not the aura reading.
Myers stalk addons do stack, same with Freddy's teleport reduction addons, and most killer addons do too, it's just the Status Effect ones generally don't, if they do the same thing.

1 hook moris were stupid busted and if you unironically think that they should deserve to return then that says a lot about your opinion on anything balance related.

I don’t really know about having “so much distance” from a 3 second stun that still highlights your positioning to the killer doing much, really. Maps are much smaller, loops have been made weaker, and killers can have easily activated aura-reading perks/add-ons. This isn’t 2016 DBD anymore.
Firstly, it's a 4 second stun lol please actually check the numbers of the things you're complaining about.
Secondly, it triggers about halfway into the kick so that's about another second of distance.
You get a 5 second head start. You can waste a huge amount of time just running in a straight line, even on a theoretically empty map.

UW could do with a cooldown reduction, but that's it.
-
And let's be honest, many says that it hurts a killer who brings a full aura build, but realistically they're not gonna face a lot of survivors with distortion.
Distortion is a relatively common perk, though? I usually have at least 1 person running it a large number of my games.

To pushback, if the killer sees your aura with Blastmine they can obviously pursue you once the stun duration has ended much easier than if they were blinded during the stun.
As for the perks/add-ons Distortion counters (without considering that Lightborn also counters survivor add-ons), is your point that killers have too much aura-reading? One perk shouldn’t counter it; there should be many perks that can work as foibles to aura-reading. I think technically you do have three: Sole Survivor, Shadowstep, and Distortion but the first two have awkward activation that can tank games requirements whereas many killer aura-reading perks and add-ons just require normal gameplay.
I mean yeah the killer can go after you after you Blast Mine them but you have so much distance, why would they even try?
As for your other point, no, the point is Distortion counters too much, and too well. It is very difficult to actually end up exhausting all of the Tokens even if the Killer is running multiple aura reading perks.
There is a lot of aura reading, yes, but having a perk that almost unconditionally counters it all, completely passively, without ever needing to interact with the killer, is not a good thing.
Even if they added a chase requirement, it would allow you to stop Aura reading perks for a big chunk of the trial, you'd just need to actually take your turn in being chased by the killer from time to time.

Fair point, but on the other hand, having 10 super easy to trigger aura perks. Even if you fix Distortion, people are just going to run Sole Survivor instead. Even old Distortion with 3 tokens and no regen is currently S tier because of how many aura reading is going on.
There needs to be an aura reading nerf. Make some perks distance based instead of basically infinite range. Make other perks have slightly higher requirements than kick a gen for a HUGE benefit, or in that specific case, REDUCE the aura reading per hook that you gain. Start out with the 24 meters, sure, but each hook should reduce that range by at least 2 meters so that once you have 8 hooks and are still able to kick gens that often, you'd only have 8 meters of radius (which is still a large range btw, Darkness Revealed is 8 meters per locker, and that one has a cooldown of 30 seconds).I don't really think Aura reading needs a nerf in general. As it stands I don't think there are any super problematic perks. The only problematic forms of Aura reading are stuff like Blight's Compound 21.
8 meters is not a large range whatsoever, it just applies in a large number of places in the case of Darkness Revealed. An aura perk that revealed Survivors within one singular 8m radius would basically never get any value.
For what it's worth, I don't want to see Distortion gutted, but as it stands you can throw it on and have complete immunity to aura reading against any killer with a Terror Radius. It is rare that Distortion tokens will ever get exhausted, regardless of how many aura reading perks the killer brings, and I don't think that's ok.
All they need to do is make Distortion only recharge in a chase. That way, it remains a potent counter to aura reading as a whole while not being a functionally unconditional counter to all sources of aura reading in the game.
@Ayodam said:

lightborn counters: residual manifest, blastmine, flashbang, flashlights, firecrackers, champion of light, and any other perk that produces flashlight. Franklin’s counters all survivor items.
Lightborn doesn't even fully counter Blast Mine. You still get the stun so it's functionally the same amount of time wasted, you just have the killer see your aura.
While the rest of those things are correct, Distortion currently counters:
A Nurse's Calling, Alien Instinct, Awakened Awareness, Barbecue & Chili, Bitter Murmur, Blood Warden (sort of), Darkness Revealed, Eruption (also sort of), Friends 'til the End, Gearhead, Hex: Retribution, I'm All Ears, Lethal Pursuer, Nowhere to Hide, Scourge Hook: Floods of Rage, Scourge Hook: Hangman's Trick, Shattered Hope (sort of), Thwack, Territorial Imperative, Weave Attunement.
That's not to mention the ~55(!) addons there are (I didn't count Scratched Mirror).
Distortion counters LEAGUES more than Franklin's and Lightborn combined.
Like yeah, there's the argument to be made that Distortion needs to exist as a counter the huge selection of aura reading that exists. I agree with that sentiment, and I'd like to see Object buffed too. But to have ONE single perk slot counter 20 perks and 55 addons for practically the entire game is far too much.
They just need to tone down the recharge. The perk will still be an extremely effective counter to aura reading, it just won't completely obliterate it at all times.

Crowd control will likely be that all window are blocked when hex is up.
=============================
blood rush. they're likely remove drawback where you need to be healthy to use it. this was originally added for dead hard for distance but dead hard has changed so this perk is likely changing. they might turbo buff this perk and also make usable more then once because perk pick-rate is like 0.2% or something.
DH was reworked nearly a year before Tools of Torment dropped though.
-
Leverage needs to be while a Survivor is hooked + 30-45s after the unhook.
Crowd Control I genuinely have no idea because it's actually pretty decent.
Blood Rush needs to have the dead on hook requirement removed (still only one use though).
Scene Partner needs a shorter cooldown and stop it from cancelling vaults.
Shadowborn needs either a duration increase, a blind recovery speed increase or both.
Pharmacy:
@ReverseVelocity said:
Pharmacy has never really been a very used perk, and with the adjustments to Medkits, it's become even worse.
I had an idea which involves giving Pharmacy a unique limited item, which would allow Pharmacy to be balanced independently from Medkits.
Pharmacy:
You have a knack for finding medicine.
The Unlocking Speed of Chests is increased by 40/60/80% and the range of noises caused by Unlocking Chests is reduced by -8 metres.
When Injured, Unlocking a Chest guarantees an Adrenaline Injector.
If you have not opened or rummaged a Chest during the Trial, you gain the ability to rummage through an opened Chest to find an Adrenaline Injector.
New Limited Item - Adrenaline Injector:
A pristine medical device, filled with a shot of pure Adrenaline.
Hold the Use Item Button to inject the device into either yourself or another Survivor. Injecting another Survivor increases the action speed by +50%. Finishing the interaction heals the injected Survivor by one Health State.
Using an Adrenaline Injector takes 10 seconds.
The injector could reuse the Vaccine animation. It'd be a nice touch.
Those are what I think the perks need.
-
Y'all are getting penalties for that error? Whenever I've had it I've gone back to the lobby without a DC.
At least I think, that might just be the 1 minute timer running out before I hit the main menu.
If it's giving penalties then I agree, they absolutely need to add an exception for these cases.
-
The thing that is preventing them is the fact that they don't want to. They've said they have no plans for it beforehand.
-
Being able to be completely immune to aura reading without ever getting into a chase at all is a bit much.
-
Hopefully it'll just be something like "Survivors can see the auras of nearby dropped items".
-
I just hope they don't nerf him significantly. He's finally good.
-
I'm glad it's not just tweaks at least. Freddy needs way more than that.

Moris are very flashy animations which reveal a little about the Killer performing them. They currently don't come into play very often since they require an Offering or for a Perk with specific conditions to be used. We'd like for them to be a little more present in the game, and having them happen at the end of the match feels like a fitting and cinematic way to close out a match without affecting gameplay too heavily.
However, I want to stress the fact that this upcoming version is not the same system that was tested before. This version has been significantly scaled back after we received feedback. We will share more once this update is a little closer.
Can I ask if it will result in perks like Devour Hope or Rancor getting changed in the crossfire?

On this, I'd like to clarify that revisiting recently release Killers is a normal part of the process. It doesn't not mean that there will be significant changes regardless of if they're necessary, it can be smaller adjustments and quality of life improvements as well.
We'll share more on each of the things listed here when they're a little closer.
Blurry Photo basekit please 🙏 It feels impossible to get teleport value without it, it's a must-run.
I hope those Cenobite changes and Billy changes are good, I'm somewhat concerned because those killers seem to be in a very good spot atm. (please don't be nerfs please don't be nerfs)
Also Pharmacy buff is going to be peak, I hope, the Green Medkit goblins shall rise once again…
-
I mean that was a funny trick but the map is pretty unbearable to play on as it stands. It's a good change overall.
-
They should make Freddy good first.
All jokes aside, he is probably the only other killer that fits the criteria. Cenobite can come and go as he pleases, so he doesn't get it, but Freddy kind of had something very similar to the Mark years before the concept existed:
A moment of falling and spinning and then Freddy was back in the school. But not his school. It looked the same, but it felt different. His powers were tempered in some ways and focused in others. The boy had gone for now, but another prey walked the hallways. Some would be inconsequential; others would become his new favourites. All would fall before his claws.
He was canonically nerfed by the entity, and is one of the few killers to have been in their respective lore.
-
Nah, he's going from bad to remotely viable, maybe.
The only change I think that'd have even the potential to be problematic is the movement speed when charging change, but I think it'll be ok. It won't be anywhere near as bad as Scamper Chucky since he'll be 3.8m/s instead of 4.4m/s.
-
Wouldn't it end up being ~58 seconds, though?
Anyway, I think this is a great opportunity to buff Monstrous so it keeps the same hook timer as it currently is. Making it 50 seconds will keep the perk ok-ish, and it requires you not to camp to use so it doesn't undermine the change.
As it stands I think LESS people will use Monstrous, since it's going to be 8 seconds less effective than what it currently is, basically.
I made a thread on the subject here:
@ReverseVelocity said:
With the change to hook state timers, Monstrous Shrine, an already underused perk, will be indirectly nerfed.
With the latest wave of number change perk updates, I think this is the perfect time to buff the numbers on Monstrous Shrine to make it more effective (or as effective as it was, anyway).
Buffing it to 40% at Tier 3 will make hook stages take 50 seconds, exactly the same effect it has now, just offset for the increased hook stage timers.
This perk can be a nice disincentive to camping, I'd love it if the perks values we updated to account for the upcoming change.
Even as it stands the only thing it's good for is making Pain Res proc in the basement. It really needs a buff.
@HexHuntressThighs 45 seconds would be nice to see. This perk is underwhelming so I hope the devs take the opportunity to revisit it. It really is the perfect time to do so.

Like I said above, that's not actually to your detriment as a killer.
If you're not trying to progress hook stages, IE, camping, then someone being on the hook longer is better for you. Yes, the survivors on generators are progressing their generators, but A: They're progressing the objective slower than if their hooked teammate were doing gens, and B: So are you.
More ability to snowball pressure by putting survivors on the back foot, when multiple players need saving and healing while you're still actively playing and making that situation worse for them because you aren't trying to defend the hooks you're getting.
It can definitely be to your detriment.
While you temporarily take one Survivor out of the game, there's really not much difference at all whether you unhook at one second or 59. The amount of progression you get as a killer is the same.
Instead of a Survivor being pressured by needing to unhook, they can put progress into a generator, and THEN go for an unhook. That way you're still making extra progress towards the objective, without the killer getting any extra progress.
You could punish this by forcing a trade or getting an extra stage, but this change makes that less likely to happen. It makes super efficient play less risky overall.
You only really get Survivors doing that once you start getting to the higher levels of play. A lot of survivors don't understand that you don't need to immediately unhook a Survivor once they're on a hook, and sometimes the better play is to just let em hang.
Greeding gens is an undeniably effective strategy, there's a reason people do it.
-
@jesterkind said:
How does that punish players who don't camp?
If anything, from my perspective, the effects it'll have on my gameplay are either neutral or outright positive.
You can let people hang on the hook for longer while you do gens and then go for the save at the last minute.
It punishes campers, but it also buffs the gens before friends strategy, which is effective regardless if the killer camps.
-

Those pesky Survivors. They DESERVE to be punished. DESERVE!!
Seriously, it will be a change which will be implemented and one week after implementation nobody will talk or care about it.
I mean, yeah? If you make a mistake, that mistake should be somewhat punishing. That's what a mistake is.
As for the original topic, I'm on the fence. It'll allow efficient Survivors to repair gens while leaving the Survivor on the hook for longer, which is a pretty nasty strategy since you can bang out most of a gen and THEN go for the save with basically nothing lost anyway.
Then again, camping is annoying to go against, so it being less effective in general is a good thing for survivors. I feel it'll make an already effective tactic have a much larger margin of error, though, which isn't really a good thing.
"Gens before friends" strategy is surprisingly good if you know how to manage hook timers and not just immediately bomb towards the unhook. I'm leaning towards this being a negative change overall.
