Forced Penance can give a surprisingly large amount of value. Specifically it instantly gives the maximum amount of anti-heal value possible for that 60 seconds.

    Let me explain:

    • Anti-heal perks only come into play if the Survivor wants to heal. And a good Survivor (we don't care about bad Survivors) will only heal if doing so is worth the time it takes to do so
    • Since Survivors do heal when no healing or anti-healing perks are in play, that means that in general 32 seconds on a gen isn't worth as much as a health state, since it takes 32 seconds of gen time to heal (16 seconds * 2 Survivors = 32 seconds).
    • Most anti-heal perks increase this value, so obviously the more time spent healing then the more value you get right? Not quite, because:
    • If a Survivor chooses not to heal when they otherwise would, that means you just got the most value possible from anti-heal perks. Any further slowdown is irrelevant because they aren't taking the slowed action, however any less slowdown is also less value because if they slowdown is small enough for them to go through with the heal, then that means the time spent is still worth it compared to just completing the gen, meaning that healing is still preferable.
    • By breaking the Survivor you've forced them to not heal. This means you've effectively slowed their healing speed by exactly enough to convince them not to heal, whatever number that happens to be. As I've previously established this is the most value you can possibly get out of an anti-heal perk

So all of this is to say, broken is the best anti-heal method possible and if you don't value broken then that means you aren't running a build that cares about anti-heal.

That said there is still the OTHER part of the perk, specifically it's prerequisite of a protection hit.

This is also fine. A protection hit isn't nearly as situational as you'd think, even if the Survivors aren't going out of their way to take them. This is because sooner or later they have to unhook each other. And hitting a Survivor while they are unhooking is a protection hit, and if the other Survivor body blocks with BT then that's 2 protection hits. But even if they don't it's not rare for a Survivor to unhook with you nearby.

There's also Survivors healing each other, you hit the healer and they become broken.

Injured Survivor works with a healthy one on a gen? Hit the healthy one and bam, broken.

The great thing about protection hits however is that the timing is also when the effect is at it's most value. You don't care about anti-heal if you are going to hit a Survivor and then down them. And a Survivor that just took a protection hit is the most likely Survivor for you to not go for a followup against. After all you have a 2nd injured Survivor to chase right there so there is no time wasted by just continuing to chase them. And the rare time someone body blocks the hook they will likely be long gone by the time you actually hook the person, so chasing them would be tricky too.

Anyways, the real trick with the perk though comes down to the Killer you run it on. There isn't much point in running the perk on a Killer that doesn't value anti-heal. Max value on those Killers doesn't say much. What you want is to play a Killer that Survivors would really want to heal against as much as possible.

That means Oni, that means Nurse and Spirit. But most of all, that means Stealth Killers. The Stealth Killers are by far the best Forced Penance users. They can force protection hits the best by ambushing grouped Survivors as I mentioned above, they really like hit and run playstyles and as a result staying injured against a stealth Killer is an awful idea and thus they get a ton of value out of this perk.

The build I use this on is the following:

    Ghostface

    Forced Penance - just explained

Whispers - helps me pinpoint Survivors if they try to go immersed, which they sometimes do to wait out thrilling, and saves time patrolling which is very important.

Surge - The perk is only good on Ghostface because the way he downs makes all of the prerequisites met pretty much every down. But it helps snowball and saves time kicking gens which is important

Thrilling Tremors - Forces the broken Survivors to not complete gens for awhile and pinpoints them if they try. Either way a big win for me, much more value than normal

I get a lot of value out of all 4 perks each match and I get the most value against the hardest teams too.

Legion can force that perk too, since they can force protection hits in frenzy far more often than many realize. : D

In all seriousness, I can understand why some people may not want it, but oh my god, please make sure that you're giving the games a fair chance.

FNaF has a sh*t ton of memes about it, but so does DbD. FNaF has people that cosplay the characters, but so does DbD. FNaF has its fair share of children, but so does DbD. FNaF has a lot of art portraying the characters in a more cute than scary manner, but so does DbD.

I honestly don't get it sometimes. If you dont like FNaF, that's fine, and I'm not here to say you have to, but it's really easy to tell who's giving the series a fair chance, and who isn't. I hope we see Springtrap some day, and if we do, and you don't personally want it, atleast be happy for the many of us that do want it.

My first question for people like that is: have you actually played the game? If people say no, then I wont say their opinion doesn't count, but I would at least encourage them to take a read up of the Springtrap wiki. If I have to do that with Candyman, they have to do it with Springtrap.

That would put Bloodwarden in a really weird spot, though. Killers are notified when they can activate BW because the End Game Collapse has started. With EGC starting before the gates are opened, now the Killer doesn't know when they can hook someone and trap unwary survivors, yet if they do, likely all survivors are trapped inside before they even have time to react.

It puts BW in an unfair situation for Killers prior to opening the doors and an unfair situation for survivors after the doors are opened. Triggering BW would now be way too difficult to pull off right and simultaneously impossible to beat if it ever managed to activate.

The perk could just light up when any gate is opened. Simple fix.

  • I would love to have more mythological entities in the game. I think the concept is pretty solid, although her power sucks in a chase... but it seems to be a pressure mechanic more than anything else.

  • I didnt know who he was until people wanted him in DBD for chapter 16... then I watched the movie and it was... really meh at best.

I would actually prefer Springtrap or Slender to Candyman.

I'm just tired of people saying "its not working" after 4 matches when its literally been said multiple times that its going to take a couple of DAYS of in game time to accurately matchmake for you per killer. Everybody on the forums has played 3 matches and said wow mmr is #########

I mean, you're not wrong, but if you want your message to be heard, those things are important.

They said MMR was running in the background for about a month now, and that it was going to be actually running matchmaking from now on. They said it would have been calibrated by now, which is what I think a lot of people are confused/frustrated about.

That's one reason I hardly play killer or buy cosmetics for killers. I like to be able to SEE the outfit I payed shards/cells for. I feel like they could lessen the prince of cells or make it so you can earn auric cells like you do shards

This. Or, give an Iri shard price on all non-licensed cosmetics, because having the option to earn something is better than not having it at all.

Fat Thumbs, sorry Professor Meg. I didn't realize speaking on a forum required perfect grammar, capitalization, and punctuation in order to be read coherently and effectively portray my point. Oh, and by the way, when making a list, unless you've constructed one of full sentences, they aren't supposed to have punctuation. Have a nice day.

It is more like you are writing for people who want to read what you say, not how you say it.

  • If it worked like Assassins Creed Odyssey, where petrification builds up over time when they focus their power at you, instead of the old medusa, that should work.

  • The hallowed blight lore makes refrence to the fact that the Entity took him from the trials... to where, or why, we really have no clue.

  • Sprint Burst: I guess I am halfway across the map now...

  • @Springey said:

You can't really discuss Springtrap around here, the people usually don't read the posts and comment 'no', 'cringe' or/and '12 year old'. Sad, honestly, but you already saw it here, in this very post.

I hate to burst your bubble guys, but FNaF isn't only about jumpscares. Jumpscares are just the punishment for losing, while other games jumpscare you just... because.

FNaF is about the story... and no, there are not thousands of retcons. FNaF has the games, it has the three novels and the quite disturbing and sad 'Fazbear Frights' books that for some reason seem to be sold in the kids sections... I guess that's okay, children may not understand the stories written in them, I don't know. There's also a movie coming up, it's in works for quite a while know since Scott Cawthon, the creator of FNaF, wasn't happy with the scripts and want that movie to be actually good, he also switched from Warner Bros. to Blumhouse because he wasn't happy with it. He actually cares that it will be good.

Every franchise has 'cringe' children in it. But to use that argument for FNaF is... kind of sad honestly... if you don't want a chapter, just discuss it like a normal person, with arguments AND TRY TO ACTUALLY LISTEN TO PEOPLE... because that's a thing many don't do, they just go with the majority and hate something just because others do.

Little edit: Assuming everyone making those posts or wanting Springtrap in the game is 12 is actually pathetic to be honest, there's something called 'opinions'. Maybe come up with some arguments next time?

I think if he wasn't a part of FNaF, more people here would be on board with the concept. Peoples preconceived biases and opinions really blind them to interesting ideas sometimes.

Uhhhh you misunderstand me there, chief. I was agreeing with you. I was saying no one cared about killers having fun and that we have to play matches we don't want to all the time. And that I find it depressing people are still debating about DCing and punishment. Perhaps that was unclear in my post.

    Maybe I did.

  • @LuffyBlack said:

But literally no one cares about that. I have played a lot of matches I didn't want to play. I think it's sad we're even having this conversation in the first place.

This kind of attitude will kill the game in the future. Don't care about the killer side of things? What they hate to deal with? Then they won't care about what you find toxic/hate to deal with. One rule for thee but not for me is an unhealthy mindset and will ruin your games.

If killers had a way to cut their losses without giving survivors more points, then suiciding on hook would be fine, as that is what they do for killers regardless.

Either they need to balance their games, or give killers an out.

And you wrote to me, not the other way around. If you feel you wasted your time, that is on you.

I've said it before but the left hand is unrelated to if he has tombstone or not. A Tombstone Piece Myers can tombstone you with a closed fist. The open left hand is because of the movement speed reduction due to Judith's Tombstone, Vanity Mirror, he's just pushing lightly on the stick on a controller, etc. which gives him the EW1ish walking animation in EW2 and EW3.

However, playing the Tier Up warning when he has Tombstone is pretty neat. That was always so creepy sounding, and they removed it as a bit of a buff to Myers. I think bringing it back for Tombstone only would up the scare-factor a little bit (Although IMHO it's way more hopeless feeling once you see a survivor go from healthy to COMPLETELY DEAD and that's how you find out he has tombstone.) but they DEFINITELY need to let you tombstone people in lockers if they provide even more warning he has it.

I'd argue 80% of failed evil incarnate attempts that fail at 3/4 survivors dead are because the last guy hides in a locker just to prevent you from getting your achievement. Game should let you mori their butt because they're dead either way.

Well, then the DBD wiki is wrong. At least about his left hand

Without using the perk once then forgive me for calling it a crutch perk people rely on.

If I can do it, so can you.

I critique both sides just as much. Curb your bias.

PH isn't really a bad killer, but he also has the capacity to ignore survivor crutch perks. No killer is bad if you know how to play as them.

  • It is a survivor objective. Sorry if you don't like doing it, but it will help guarantee an escape, or at least that you will not run into NOED. If you pass by bones and NOED becomes active, it is partially your fault.

It is not like many maps have them particularly well hidden either.

Can't force people to stay in game, next

Killers are forced to endure sweat teams, as the DC penalty is back. Survivors don't deserve special treatment.

  • I play both sides, but if someone doesn't, it doesn't mean the other sides issues don't matter. Keys effect killer only players, while Moris effect survivors, for instance.

A person has the right to give an opinion. However, whether or not you take that as a relevant opinion is up to you. You should not be the arbiter of what is accepted and what is not. This gatekeeping tactic is a really weak one for any argument, tbh.

  • @LordRegal said:

Legion's I feel hits the sweet spot of brutal and realistic for what you'd expect. By this I mean someone like Trapper's mori, you'd expect the person to try to crawl away, try to throw themselves to one side, and while I love Oni and Deathslinger's moris the survivors just kinda...accept what's happening. Plague's is particularly bad for this, since they're alive until the vomit and yet didn't do anything to try to escape. On the other hand you've got Demo, who, as much as I want to love his mori, it's just kinda meh for me. Legion's they actively try to fight back and crawl away, and the whole animation is just so visceral because of it. I love it.

For me, Legion is great for that reason, but my all time favorite has to be Pigs. She doesn't allow them to run, and is brutally efficient (even with survivor struggles).

  • They removed them to remove grind, as they are 7000 BPs per perk, not 6000.

  • What makes no sense is how the tome goes almost completely against her origins. I wonder if it is a disconnect between the writers now and the content from earlier...

Hag is from a remote village in the backstory. Unless they are inferring that America is some kind of remote country, the new lore counters this.

The only way I could see the rift reconciled with the lore is if that version of the Hag is from a parallel timeline... but that is it. Are killers the same beings plucked from multiple timelines, or are they one from one timeline and with multiple looks.

The cosmetics seem to indicate the former theory, while the foundations support the latter. They need to clarify this, as it will become a problem for their writing team later if we do not understand the rules on which the story is based, we will have questions they do not want to answer... to add to the pile of things they do not want to answer for already...

  • I would be fine with most of these, as long as they dont chain well to other tiles, they should be fine.

  • I think Laurie is fine... I miss the old beard that Bill used to have. That was a massacre of what they did to him.

  • @Booper_Of_Snoot said:

    Jake, Nea, Quentin first, please.

  • It was original envisioned to be a casual game. At least that is what I believe. But through a lack of direction & proper balancing, it has become part Casual and Part competitive, and the lack of focus is really messing up the game. Especially now, with the casual gen times and Crutch perks ruining the fun of those who want a balanced, competitive game... and the tryhard competitive players using the imbalance of the casual crutch perks ruining the fun of those who want a casual, relaxed game.

No, it was because they moved at 132% movement speed and could vault pallets and windows in 0.9 seconds. The no missed attack penalty and instant rev was just the cherry on top.

If it was because of their movement speed increase and vault pallets, then why does their frenzy still do that, but Legion themselves is considered low-mid tier by much of the community?

i feel survivor should be lock in the 10 sec spot can't switch when there 10 sec left,

Actually, I think locking when searching for a match should apply for both sides. Survivors should not hide their strategy, and should be stuck with what they chose when searching for a killer. If killers can't be adaptable anymore, neither should survivors.

  • @VoiceofRain said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1495315#Comment_1495315

Okay, but why does it matter? The killer can't see builds. And if individual leveling didn't exist, neither would teachable perks.

They can also hide their skill as well. And whatever items. A killer can make a guess of how they will play based on the cosmetics they are wearing and the items they hold. That goes out the window if a survivor can hide that till the 5 second mark, when nobody can change anything anymore.

  • @Mandy said:

Because Survivors are just skins, their skill level is the same regardless of what character they play. That's not true with Killers obviously.

And the Killer still has the option to change perks, add ons and offerings in the lobby so it's only the character that's locked in, not your full loadout.

Actually... Survivors can have multiple builds saved using those different characters, which can be just as diverse as killer powers can be. And can hide items that the killer can't account for. What seems like a Lv. 1 Dwight can actually be a P3 Lv. 50 Blendette with a key. That doesn't seem quite balanced to me.

Oh, and if they are just skins, then why do you have to level them individually to each other?

60 seconds is barely enough time on Xbox to change perks to what survivors have. Never mind if they hide it from you.

Just because I am not obliged to buy it, it doesn't reduce the fact that this cosmetic would be an overprised purple like Lisa Garland is. And since people are going to buy it "just because" it will tell BHVR that people are happy with overpriced purples. I hope I am wrong that Oni's legendary isn't just an overpriced purple, but if it is, just like I said, I (and a lot of other people aswell) would be heavily disappointed.

I didn't say I approve of the overpriced nature of the cosmetics. I think all non-licensed characters should have shard prices, because I think that having cell only cosmetics are dumb.

  • Here are a few practical (plus absurd) buff I would give killers. : D

GF: Fix his reveal mechanic to be consistent but still decent for both sides. No breaking out from behind a rock he can't stalk from. If he can't see you, you can't see him.

PH: Make Trails of Torment slow survivors by 1-2%, depending on how long they are on it. And cause medium vaults instead of fast vaults.

    Oni: Make Scalped Topknot basekit.

Wraith: Remove the Predator shimmer when outside what would be the TR.

Billy: Revert the nerfs to the Engraving addons. (back to 20% and 15% extra movement speed instead of 10% and 5%)

Trapper: Trapper Bag is basekit. Or he can recover traps from lockers. Something, please!

    Legion:

    I have a few... either:

    1. 3 second frenzy stun
    2. Frenzy can down survivors again
    3. Make BT its own thing so it can be balanced as its own mechanic, not tied to a survivor perk.

Hag: Flashlights have no effect from outside trap range.

Freddy: Give him 10 snares. I don't see why he can have 8 snares but 10 pallets.

Doc: Make madness mean something. Afflictions actually are afflictions.

Huntress: Fix the gosh darn hitboxes!

Pig: For every gen that gets done, removes 30 seconds from an active trap. Now survivors can kill each other!

Deathslinger: Make him 115 mms. Or give the iri coin the iri hatchet effect: expose from any range.

    Spirit: Fix all sounds.

Cannibal: Get rid of tantrum buildup. It is unnecessary and just makes him frustrating when you try to rev down.

Nurse: Change the Matchbox addon to this: Instead of blinking to survivors, she pulls them to her. Must be precise. If her power lands on a survivor, it will pull them to her position, allowing her to hit them. Compensates by having only one blink. Works with Plaid Flannel.

Myers: Make Tombstone (minus the extra stalk) basekit.

Clown: Make Redhead pinky finger basekit.

Demo: When charging Of the Abyss, he can see auras of survivors in his TR.

I think being forced to be immersed and stealth when you could instead try to interfere with another survivor being chased with the info given from Aftercare is a waste. I want to use aftercare as a means of putting other people's safetey above my own, I agree It is a decently good perk already, but is decently good enough to stop people from running small pp build and the general meta? I want more perk synergies that encourage different play styles and builds. Everytime I play survivor I run builds based around taking protection hits or making a build around No Mither (I've actually been able to get all 3 stacks of Mettle using No Mither and Tenacity to get hit by the killer while they are carrying someone and crawl away to recover). running builds like Arenaline, Unbreakable, DS, and Dead Hard are just sooooo boring. I maybe incorporate one of them into a build and then ignore the rest because whats the point in playing the game if it's based less on skill and more on, "haha 1 minute invincibility and I can revive myself so I can't be slugged either, killer = teddy bear". Things like using Dead Hard for distance to get a free loop or making it to another loop is boring and no test of skill what so ever (on the other hand, I think well timed Dead Hard's to avoid hits are worthy of praise) Or at least thats how I look at it. I want it to be more accessible to make builds themed around a purpose without severely crippling yourself compared to running meta perks.

Not really. Would you want Mettle of Man to gain tokens by waiting outside the killers TR? Or prime Repressed Alliance by time in a chase? They are niche perks, but give a powerful reward when used well. The same with Aftercare, although Aftercare requires you to not get hooked for a long period of time to get the most out of it. So adding protection hits would go against the whole playstyle of the perk. It asks you to help teammates or for them to help you already.

I get what you are trying to do, I just think that protection hits go against the point of the perk in the first place. If you want to be altruistic, run Empathy. Not Aftercare.

No need to hide your hot takes my friend, I'm glad I could help you bring them out into the open. I don't disagree with anything you just said, save for the assumption that DS and Unbreakable are reliable and heavily used perks. You're thinking of Kindred and Self Care, which exclusively have unreliability in the form of killer powers. DS and Unbreakable are unreliable because killer players use unique strategies when it comes to distributing pressure with hooking and slugging. Glad we could have a civil discussion.

Well, in my experience, 3/4 matches have at least 2 players with DS/Adrenaline/Exhaustion perk... At this rate I'm going to become a PH main instead of a Legion main... : /

Kindred and Self Care aren't really seen in the survivors I go against. If that is your experience, well, I would rather have that then the Meta builds I go against a lot of the time.

DS/Unbreakable is sort of reliable, because chances are there will be a situation where killers are forced to let it happen. I hate that part about those perks, that there will be a time where survivors make a misplay, but are rewarded by it.

I try to be civil. It gets hard sometimes when certain people engage with me, but I am glad to see that you are not how you initially sounded.

Yes Everyone Escapes Trial: also known as... YEET. When the last generator is popped, all remaining totems on the map will break, IF the user of this perk hasnt been hit by the killer a single time this trial.

Do you know whats the problems with this?

Survivors needs 6.25% perks for this, Killer need 25% perks for Noed

Killers' perks will always remain more powerful.

Killers perks should be powerful. That is why it is sad when you get perks like Cruel Limits or New Dying Light, which either hinder you in some cases or actively work against you in others.

So you think PH is top tier and is great for avoiding survivor toxicity. I agree. Also, I did read but apparently you didn't. You clearly state in your 2nd sentence that PH's toxicity avoidance is why survivors dislike him.

That is what this thread is about. Stating our opinions which we do not share with others. And of all of them you go after mine...?

PH has weaknesses. Inclines, pitfalls, weird pathing... etc. but every killer has weaknesses. Some are minor, some are not, but if a player knows how to mitigate/work around those weaknesses, then it is like there aren't any. For me, PH is top tier because I know how to mitigate his weaknesses and play to his strengths.

That isn't a judgement statement though, because of the survivors I have talked/written to, they dislike that he avoids DS and Unbreakable, which are two meta perks. I should have specified that it is the survivor-only players who dislike PH for these reasons.

I also think a killer that can ignore these things is necessary for the games overall health, as it makes them unreliable...

How is the second paragraph a hot take? It seems more like a way for you to bring up how toxic you think survivors inherently are, which is kind of a toxic thing to do all the time mind you.

Because a lot of people don't like PH and think he's mid tier. I think he is top tier, and because he plays best when survivors try to be toxic to him, when most killers complain about toxicity and he can just shrug it off...

No, I didn't complain about toxicity, and no, I didn't say they are inherently toxic. Only that there is toxicity and he deals with it. Read before responding.

  • Legion is underrated and almost never played correctly. They have to make second by second decisions that alter the course of the game, and must pick and choose who they go for. Almost nobody does this, and just chases really badly.

PH is a devastating killer that can deny most survivor toxicity, and is at their best when they try to be toxic. That is, I think, the problem most survivors have with him, that they cant abuse DS or Unbreakable against a good PH. They force any survivor to be cautious.

3 licensed in a row? Don't they usually go back and forth? Only time I can think of when they even did 2 licensed in a row was Ash vs Evil Dead + Scream in June last year and Stranger Things in September last year, and they compensated for that by doing 2 original in a row afterward, Oni + Yui and Deathslinger + Zarina.

Leatherface, Freddy, then Pig. That was three in a row. : P

  • My only question is Why is candyman actually liked? Maybe it is a generational thing, but I dont get why people want that, to be honest. I thought the original movie was kind of meh, and the villain isn't really great...

But hey, I like FNaF and Slender, so my opinion is already denied, if half of what I read is true. : /

Realistically, I think it would be something else though.

  • My first game was Halo 3. Played it at a cousins place. The first game I owned was Halo 4, and I spent hours on that game. Beat it on Legendary, got to SR 130, unlocked a decent amount of the commendations... and dominated the Flood gamemode (their version of infection). I had a lot of fond memories of that game.

My first gaming system was an Xbox 360, and now I have an Xbox one. I played the Souls series, Halo, and now DBD. It is funny how a lot of souls players (Scott Jund, Otzdarva, etc.) all came from Dark Souls to DBD.

  • There is also a challenge to end a trial with 5 gens left. If that doesn't encourage moris, Idk what does.
