    • No guys, I know you have the best intentions and genuinely want to help, but these must be people who do this for the money, who use "aseptic" methods and have no emotional connection to DBD. People who don't care if Blight gets nerfed or if the number of pallets in "The Game" is halved (I'm just giving two random examples).

Except, people who have no ties to DBD also don't play DBD…. which means they certainly can't make informed choices on the balance of DBD.

Best way to do it is to pick people who do not have a financial stake in DBD.

there are many clips on youtube of survivors playing stealth if you search for it. i have literally used stealth many times to keep a killer busy without being in chase. make a loud noise, and use stealthy skills to remain unseen while the killer spends ages looking. they move away, i make another loud noise, they come back and search. several killers have DC'd over it because like 2 gens have popped while they have been searching for a ghost.

Oh yeah, I see rat gameplay all the time.

    Hate seeing it.

  • @runningguy said:

lol i do enjoy these "tunneling is bad" posts… the means to counter it are there. learn to loop, learn to lose line of sight, learn to stealth, learn to make better decisons (when in chase run away from the gens), generally learn to play. so many people have this 1 track mindset of survivor role of loop loop loop and when that fails they throw a tantrum and say "there is no counter".

let me fill you in on a little secret….. there is more to playing survivor than looping. you dont have to get chased at all if you play it right.

    Where's the footage

Seeing your previous posts, at least you can show some evidence that you actually play the killer side (even though the player stats are bogus). I can respect a difference with players who have experience on both sides. It’s the ones who don’t that I have an issue with.

I agree, the stats are bogus.

They didn't even record me when I was a full-on tryhard Killer main. Only after I started playing more chill lol

Can you show us how braindead easy killer is? So many of your posts are just complaining about how hard survivor is and how easy killer. Why do you feel this way? Do you actually play killer? If not, then how do you know it’s easy? If you’re only saying this because you have a hard time playing survivor, and you don’t have any experience as killer, maybe it’s just an issue with how you play survivor.

Think about it this way: what if I can on here and constantly posted about how braindead easy survivor is? How would you respond to that? Would you believe it? I assume that you would either not believe it and/or ask for proof to back up that opinion.

Can't speak for them, but Killer is pretty easy.

The asinine changes to pallets during the update before this one were annoying but didn't affect overall strength much.

These changes, however, do buff Killers that were already performing well.

Besides the ones that you oversimplified, which perks are in play, what killer it is, the playstyle of survivors, is anyone bodyblocking, when and how is the survivor getting unhooked, off the top of my head.

    All those things matter, true.

Almost all of them feed into my point.

Simply saying, "Get good at looping" is massively unhelpful.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4032612#Comment_4032612

I think you are misunderstanding my point.

I'm not saying that "learning to loop" is the counter to tunneling. I'm saying that, if you "learn to loop" killers who tunnel you, will more often than not, lose the game by doing so because they aren't spreading pressure, and you are able to last longer than 5 seconds against them.

The games where i see tunneling work, are games where the survivor goes down 10 seconds into the chase, the games where it doesn't work, are games where a survivor can loop the shack forcing the 3 window vault, stunning at a filler, heading to a jungle gym and repeating the process forcing the down to take 1-2 minutes each time.

Once again, everything I said still applies. As does what @jesterkind said.

  • @Reinami said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/461136/please-stop-telling-survivors-to-learn-how-to-loop

The point to that is tunneling is far less effective if the survivor can actually loop. It takes too long to down someone when they are constantly aware. Generally the killer needs to rely on getting the drop on a stationary survivor doing a gen, or healing, or other thing to land a quick first hit. But if y ou are just chasing them constantly they are able to run you for a long time.

Yeah, you might still die, but the killer throws the match to get that 1 kill.

This relies on too many variables to be considered a reliable form of counterplay. Let's go over some of those quickly.

You need to be significantly better than the Killer. Tunneling takes far less skill to pull off than it does to counter. Now, with the matchmaker being ass, this isn't so unlikely, but it will still be uncommon.

The map needs to be able to support a long chase. Many maps, even prior to these pallet updates, were not capable of supporting long chases by design. Post-update, most maps are lacking pallets and if not, lacking safe pallets.

You need your teammates to both recognize the tunnel and immediately slam gens. Unless you're in a 4-man, the odds are massively against you here.

You actually need to be the one getting tunneled. Most Killers, when they find someone who might actually loop them, will just leave and find someone else who can't. If that happens, and they get tunneled, theres nothing you can do.

  • At this point, I'll do it for free.

    This is just wildly frustrating.

At least from comments I have read it seemed to be minority.
Before this patch what I have seen most what basically just asking for revert of previous "QoL" change. Except few maps, which actually needed it like Borgo, or Haddonfield.

So I would say devs should be blamed for current situation, not killers in general.

I'm not blaming them in general, just those specific people for being massively tone-deaf.

I put more blame on CC's who flipped the ######### out as soon as BHVR touched tunneling and slugging.

  • Because there were people who wanted this, and people celebrating this, and more saying people are overreacting.

  • @tyantlmumagjiaonuha said:

The pallet density remains high, but the loop's safety has changed significantly. You should focus more than ever on either extending the distance per lap by utilizing connections between pallets and windows, or skillfully directing pallets to hit the Killer directly.

Previously, some maps allowed for a 5gen chase just by mindlessly touring the pallets, but such easy games are no longer possible going forward.

PS. Is Disturbed Ward's main building bugged? I encountered instances where 6 pallets spawned and others where only 2 spawned.

The filters are pretty gross. Why is one map fart green and another map varicose vein blue? Makes 0 sense. Just make the graphics of the game better and you won't need these ugly filters. Go for that semi realistic look that a game like Outlast Trials has please and thank you. Very bright and realistic lighting where it's need and much darker where it isn't.

We all know DBD could look so much better in general.. This games graphics are dated and nothing about them screams UE5. New Gas Heaven gives me old Haddonfield cartoon town vibes honestly..

Hard to say as aiming for kill rates to balance is not how you balance things. There's a reason why other games balance usually around some characters having abnormally high win rates which if what you're saying is true… it's why I laugh at the notion you can easily get a 70% kill rate on ghost face.

It further reinforced my thought that you go against actual gutter tier skill of player if you actually have a 90% kill rate on ghost face. Please play against survivors that actually have a brain for 10 games and come back to me with your average kill rate because 90% is SUPER abnormally high for such a limited kit as ghost face. Any experienced player in any sort of game will tell you a 90% kill rate on a HARD limited character is only achievable by going against the lowest of the lows. But since you have a 90% kill rate on ghost face he clearly needs nerfs right?

I never said anything about soloq going to suffer. I said even if soloq some killers can still be extremely weak or strong. Which still holds true. I've seen soloq games against good blights that still resulted in someone escaping even if the blight played efficiently. So the real issue of soloq is not even kill rates or anything its just lack of comms.

I'm above average as a player, probably washed by now, so I figured that accounts for my 86% average KR.

The odds of me never playing against good Survivors and maintaining such a high KR is approximately zero. I've done the same thing with other Killers. Legion, Nemesis, etc etc

  • @Brimp said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4031202#Comment_4031202

If you look on nightlight right now the best kill rate is legit 60% and held by Freddy lol. Some killers are dropping nearly to the 40% mark. And that just shows that once you take out all the survivor that are bad in the normal queue. This game is WAY worse than you originally think.

Kill rates are NOT a one all concrete indication of the balance for the game and never was. It's a sign yes but just that a sign. This is why I laugh at the indication "you can easily get a 70% KR on ghost face" because that only implies you go against bot level of skill in your games. It's the whole reason I use "against good/competent survivors" since THATS what we should be balancing around as those are what indicate (or at least more accurately indicate) a killer being weak or strong even IF soloq.

Ah yes, the infamously unreliable NightLight. NightLight has consistently underreported KR's. It's also such a tiny sample size that it's statistically irrelevant.

I agree, KR isn't an end-all-be-all solution. Generally speaking though, 60% is the Devs target (which I think is a bad choice, but whatever) and Killers are either hitting or exceedingly that. Why would we buff that? What is your ideal KR? 70%? 75%? At what point do we stop and say, "Hey, this might be too much." Is it only when you are satisfied?

Ah yes, because I think it's possible to get 70% KR with GF, that means I only play against trash players. Of course. It couldn't be that I'm actually decent with him, or that maybe I play in a way that you don't. No, that's inconceivable.

I said 70% because I subtracted 20% from my own KR to make it accessible to the average player.

I'm also glad to hear you think Solo Q can go ######### themselves. "Who cares if Solo Q has a 2% Escape Rate, I'm finally fulfilling the ego feedback loop I always wanted, now I don't have to try against good/competent (probably not) players either!"

  • @Brimp said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4031196#Comment_4031196

Top tiers right now are unironically a necessary evil. Until survivors receive nerfs there NEEDS to be top tiers in their current states. And no this isn't a "1% of the playerbase" type take its more of a "Survivors can do extremely well against most of the roster if they have a functioning brain" type take.

So how high are the KR's supposed to go?

  • All that to be told that Killers average a 60% KR.

If the game feels rigged against you constantly, it might just be you, at least on the Killer side. The game is literally designed to favor you getting a positive outcome.

Many people here are heavily biased towards survivor side and cannot see the game from both sides since they rarely or never play killer.

I also agree that the devs have lost the plot. Survey was heavily survivor sided, and i am actually little scared of the upcoming update.

Because of how it is framed and the history of the poster behind it.

Other than kneejerk downvotes, that's why people don't like it.

Honestly, I thought about responding to it, but what's the point?

  • Pallet density is a bad update.

It didn't fix deadzones, nor did it fix bad maps like Haddonfield.

We should've gone through, map by map, and fixed them. Not map sweeping changes to how tile generation works.

  • It's fine, I guess?

The Haste is probably better than Endurance, neither really help with tunneling. The best strategy to counter this is still to just hit them immediately.

I think that is true. I've been comparing things to the 3 gen and AFC camp changes - BHVR went into those with a 'this is going to happen' attitude, a clear intent on what level they wanted to change, and were open to modifying around the edges but not the entire concept. They avoided the doomsayers, even pointing out in the forums takes that didn't make sense, and were able to focus on dealing with an extreme issue. I wish they had been able to approach these quality of life changes with the same focus.

True, but they've also had their mind set on some really horrible things as well.

And that second one was peak "well well well if it isnt the consequences to my own actions" from the survivor

I actually remember that game quite well.

The thing I don't get: why even bother? If this is BHVR's stance, just keep pumping new content until the game collapses under its weight. But they actively denied themselves money by delaying content and then failed to deliver on multiple things they said would be coming.

I think a lot of English-speaking content creators have been pushing the idea of tunneling being the meta strategy

I hope I finally can transfer my message.

Oh yeah, if tunnelling is already too strong, why did you say killers need tunnel to win? You can't be right in both case, right?

    Complicated question.

Are we trying to do a 'gotcha' moment or are you genuinely curious?

Lol tunnelling is too strong. Maybe it's too strong for you with 12k hours in game, and so does survivor's stuff when they have the proper knowledge of how to use everything to their advantage.

Besides, if tunnelling is too strong for you, you could just stop tunnelling in your own will, you know. NO ONE forces you to tunnel when you have 90% Kill Rates.

According to the stats site, I have less than 2K. Is that true? No, but it's funny 😂

Yes, it's certainly quite a bit of overkill when I'm far more experienced than my opponents.

I haven't tunneled, unless I either know the team or they show me that they aren't randoms, in quite a few years. Not much reason to go all-out on a bunch of normal players, what could I possibly get out of that besides ego? I don't learn, I don't improve my skills.

So, I'm pleased to report that most, if not all, of my 90% KR is organically and ethically sourced.

I speak Russian and understand Uzbek and Ukrainian partially. I really doubt they are gonna be comfortable because I can’t use Russian on “basic” level. Like, the way to build sentences that’s not overloaded with constructions to make it more clear for foreigners. Even for native speakers I speak… kinda old fashioned.

I wasn’t talking about respect, no. I mean logical substitution. And guess as exploitation of elaborating. You made a guess about foreign community using English CC trait. But the problem stays: you just know own community trait. You don’t have base on to guess about other community. At least not if you trying to use logic.

Maybe if I restate my original comment.

I think a lot of English-speaking content creators have been pushing the idea of tunneling being the meta strategy has influenced those who consume said media to adopt that strategy, if that makes sense. It doesn't mean that Asia or EU are any less skilled, or that they arent capable or that their content isnt saying the same thing. Merely that NA SEEMS to have adopted a very wide-scale application of tunneling earlier than other regions, judging from other posters experiences here. This isn't to say that tunneling doesn't happen as often in those regions now, merely that say, during 6.1.0 I've often heard those that played in EU saw no noticeable increase in tunneling, but I hear from NA quite often that tunneling exploded in popularity. Now, I think, all the regions are about equal in their application of said strategy. Perhaps except Japan, things seem a little different over there with independent play being valued very highly.

    Does that help?

I understand ”it’s just a guess” part— I just don’t care, because fundamentally your guess came from very limited knowledge of the English-speaking CC, yet you tried to use it to generalize and make claims about another part of the community. The problem is not in guess itself, it’s in how you made it.

It’s like saying: “Well, I assume X is different in Y way because for Z, W trait looks this way.”

This is a simple non causa pro causa in an attempt to develop a position that was initially built without any relation. And people who blindly follow without fact checking just gonna use this later with the same approach. I don’t mean the statement itself. I mean the way to build argumentation.

Idk what to do if you gonna ask for elaborating even such stuff. This is just logic classes, and I’m not a teacher to explain basics.

Okay. I mean zero disrespect by this.

I feel like there might be a language barrier here? Is there another language you'd be more comfortable using? Maybe I speak enough of it that we can find whatever disconnect we are having here and resolve it.

  • Wesker clears.

Plague has more boom or bust potential. She's either completely oppressive or ineffectual. Wesker is consistent, you know what you're gonna get.

Wesker is much more fun than either of the others. Far more engaging gameplay, he also isn't bugged to hell. Massively rewarded for learning his techs.

Like you said, he's also actually fun to play against too.

I mean, not to sound pessimistic, but BHVR has effectively no incentive to do more than the bare minimum.

There's no meaningful competition (every other assyms are either dead or dying).

The licenses alone could keep the game standing (let's be honest, if licenses never came to DBD, that game would have died years ago) and every new licenses bring in a wave of players from an entirely different community (retention is bad, but it's enough).

Even after every repeated disasters this year (all those disaster streams/collabs, major changes being repeatedly canceled etc.) people are still buying stuff. So from a business point of view, there's no need to put more effort and resources on a formula that already works and isn't in any real danger no matter how many mistakes are made.

    Correct

  • I am, since I have no idea what you're even arguing.

No it's fine, I know you mean well, it's just this is the biggest QoL initiative they've done and it's been an utter disaster, that's why it matter so much.

If this is their best attempt to fix this game, there is no hope and we are very right to be upset about that.

I just want them to do better and learn, that's all I want.

When have they ever learned lol? We are almost at a decade of this. I've personally witnessed eight years of it.

I didn't want to be negative, but there was a reason I said wait and see when it came to this "QoL Initiative".
