It is if your opponent is not awfully bad, not saying those players are un ommon but of ghey are semi decent it is a throw pick if you are not on lerys.
That's blatantly false.
You can manage a 70% KR with GF if you try.

Even if we take average player into the mix
Blight still outperforms Ghosty,
Ghostface can be good yes, but blight? Is mote likely to not care about the survivors skill on any level.
Blights main Strength is Mobility, mid chase this matters more
Ghostface, needs to catch you unaware, or slowly apply their power to build up gauge
For the average survivor, going against Ghostfsce is preferable to Blight.
But yes they can still both perform well on the average match
Ghostface is easier, no need to learn bump logic.
Like I said though, Blight has more potential but GF isn't some throw pick.

the problem is people dc over so many diffrent things you cant just fix that.
for example i am a legion and plague main. if id get a penny for every dc i could play dbd for a living.
what the solution to make the game enjoyable here? deleting/completly changing these two killers into something else? cause thats the only thing that would stop people from dcing against them
Yeah, we should've reworked Legion a long time ago. He's always been absolutely horrid to play against, and was widely considered the least fun Killer until SM.
-
No, she had a 70% KR without DC's or suicides.
She was universally despised and promoted some of the worst gameplay in DBD. She was basically the poster child of modern DBD's horrid design.
She went from 3-gen monster who held games hostage for an hour to still good at 3-genning but better at the brainless "place drone at loop, get hit or leave" style of gameplay, plus they just slapped every status effect in the game onto her drones.
Combine that with indeterminate Haste, applying Hindered, on-demand Undetectable and you have an overpowered and reviled Killer.

Double post.

You can be good at ghost face yes. But at least in my matches that doesn't amount to much as survivors actually know what they're doing so I'm hard limited by my own kit. Compared to blight which actually has a choice of who he wants to chase. GF is a LOT more time crunched which is as to why he's consistently seen as weak until VERY specific maps are given to him.
For the vast majority of players, Ghostface is totally adequate.
He isn't going to hit the highs of Blight, sure, but it's completely possible to win 70% of your games with him.
-
@Brimp said:
Blight: Better mobility, actual chase power, lower cooldowns,
Ghostface: M1 with no mobility, a cooldown on his stealth, an m1. Did I mention he's an M1 killer?Being M1 doesn't matter in most games, to be fair.
If you're good with Ghostface, you're good with Ghostface

I wonder how many times we'll have to keep doubling-down before we realize that this isn't working lol.
I predicted this years ago, the literal exact form this would take, and what people's responses would be.
Until you make the average game enjoyable/worth playing out for a reason that isn't brownie points, people will find ways to quit. Instead of doing that though, we're gonna double-down on punishments that demonstrably don't work and waste resources doing that instead.
-
It doesn't seem like you know how the game started at all lol
Nobody would have described it as you have.

Same for me. At this point, I feel like I have to repeat a point I made a few months ago:
- in the pursuit of balance we made the game even more unfun, just to realize that true balance was never an option.
When will they learn, that band aids will destroy more than they fix?
When people stop spending money on the overpriced cosmetics.

With all due respect, given our discussions kf the past, you're a legend of the game from its infancy where the game had its most broken mechanics but players never had the thousands of hours of skill and knowledge they do in modern DBD. You've seen the era's of map infinites, broken mori's, numerous slowdown and second chance metas, and the evolution of DBD over it's lifetime. When you started playing, players in general were much worse and trying to hide and not be found because looping wasn't estalished yet... or at least a very largely unknown skill in teh player base.
As time has gone on, the game has switched to this looping idea being the centre piece of DBD gameplay, which in turn has led to many elements of the game being redesigned as I've described. We have these high level killers now that can get across the map super fast, brute force hits around tiles, and bypass Survivor defences because that's what is required to keep up. These killers are all action, no horror, and being the level of play you are (given what I've seen you post in the past), this is the game you see all the time.
All of which is basically my point. In the absence of stealth, when not playing the high level DBD rush machine, the mid levels of play feel much more like a horror game. Killers don't have the power to exert pressure on gens AND still get back to hard tunnel at the same time like they do in high level play. The constant feeling the killer can always come back for you is the only horror left to be had in modern DBD, and to be fair, the ineptitude of soloQ helps avheive this as well. That killers can slug you if you make it easy to do so, or can camp you if you give them good reason to, these are things that make DBD stimulating to me. I have been unhooked many times on death hook and tried to hide, holding my breathe to try and not be found for the tunnel. Or tried to loop somewhere the killer has to drop chase.
If I'm succesful, there have come moments I've said to myself "I need to stay hidden above all else", and eventually "Ok, I can't hide anymore, its do or die". These are things that typically happen against mid to low tier killers, high tier killers you just can't get away from most of the time if they choose to tunnel, so there is no attempting to hide or stay out of the way, it's all action, no horror.
These 9.3.0 changes are basically to my mind are admitting defeat, and just hammering nails into the coffin of DBD as a horror game... the game is basically being geared only to high level killers, and all the nice little features left in the mid level that still give the horror experience, are just being ham fistedly shunted out the game on the altar of "play nice".
The altar this is being sacrificed on isn't "play nice." It's the altar of "balance."
Sometimes, there are worthy sacrifices to said altar. Like old DH, or instant heals, or old mori's and I tend to think tunneling would be worthy sacrifice as well.
However, other times, we burn things we shouldn't have. Like atmospheric maps, old graphics, fog, horror aesthetics etc etc. It's possible that tunneling could end up in this category as well, I simply don't know for sure.
The continued push for balance has, ultimately, destroyed the horror theme of the game. This last change may be the final nail in the coffin, but it wasn't the largest nor most impactful nail struck. It just happens to be the last in a long line.
-
Hate to tell you this, but even if the changes went through as-is, Survivors would still be far less safe than when I started playing. Safety doesn't have too much to do with horror.
The fact of the matter is, DBD hasn't been a horror game in a long time, it has no atmosphere, no identity. It's more just a game with horror characters in it.
-
Who could've possibly predicted that the anti Go-Next system wasn't going to do anything lol
It just shifted the issue BACK to DC's.
-
For the average player? Not much. You can dominate most players with Ghostface.
For the very uncommon higher level matches? Blight has mobility, map pressure, map presence, anti-loop, etc etc.

This is a tendency of their surveys, from uninstall to last sinister grace and this one.
It's a weird perspective about asking what you should deprive killer from instead of asking valid questions about classes and maps. Not “what you would like to add”, not “what do you want to change in your own role”, but “what other side should do to please you”. No valid reasons to defend such stuff without looking offended by killer presence in game.
I can't see the survey, so I wouldn't know.
-
Likely because getting Survivors to queue for 2v8 is already difficult.
-
Pretty much every Killer can be played on a controller, in my experience.
Some just can't hit their maximum potential.
-
I believe the new season will delve more into that.
He's certainly psychic, like Eleven, so most of her powers should carry over. He may be able to control the creatures of the Upside-Down, he can certainly command the Vines. He can also affect people mentally, driving them insane.
-
Doesn't surprise me.
There were several groups on Xbox back pre-crossplay who would just DDoS me if they got me in a lobby when I was Killer.
Got to the point where I couldn't even boot up my Xbox without them knocking me offline for hours.

This is pure cope, reaching rank 1 was easy as hell, it was just as inconsistent as "high mmr". In fact deranking with this system was very easy so smurfing was very much easier than today, not only that but "everyone started at 20" is just true for brand new players or people who took a break for a long time, as rank reset only sent you back some ranks, not everyone got back to 20.
It used to be pretty harsh, but they changed it to only set you back 10.

Still, you can't deny what it says are mostly correct.
Once the update goes live, it's gonna be miserable against this type of Survivors, because it's insanely hard to punish them unless you're playing S-tier killers.
As far as I've been told, it already is.

I think the problem is that if you punish it too harshly through things like the gen mechanics or whatever they did, or by giving survivors a ton of bonuses off the hook, then it can be weaponized against a killer player who actively trying NOT to tunnel. And if they don't do enough, then it will always be one of the most effective strategies in the game, because there is no better slowdown then just removing someone from the game.
I think the easiest solution for BHVR is to just make it not possible and build the game balance around that.
Is it the best? Dunno.
But you are right, its probably the easiest and the most difficult for BHVR to screw up.

why not just give killers rewards that benefit them? Like say you’re playing as a ranged killer like huntress or artist and you get a unique hook, you would be able to see the aura of survivors that haven’t been hooked yet. Or with trap killers like merchant or trapper have generators become blocked for a few seconds so that they can set up.
You can, just not without making tunnel MUCH weaker.
-
@Reinami said:

They need to just give in and make tunneling someone out of the match not possible, then give actual rewards for hooking survivors through things like basekit pop/surge/pain res/whatever
I would agree, though I dislike the idea of completely removing it.
I'd rather it just not be the go-to best strategy, but it may just be easier to remove it entirely.

Older hardware could of gotten 60fps imo. I believe they did 60fps for current gen and called it a day, no point going backwards for old hardware. They should be going for 120fps already, we're a few years out from the next cycle - better to do it sooner rather than later so it's already implemented ready for the next hardware
It could've, but DBD is perhaps the most poorly optimized game in existence, they promised this back in 2019. I don't think they are interested in optimizing further, either that or they can't without a lot of investment.
If I recall, DBD basically bottlenecks CPU's. I'd imagine that's the same thing that's happening to modern consoles. Its also why it still runs like garbage on PC.
-
I thought some of the newer generation of players may have been interested to know that people already tried this with BHVR.
They originally promised 60 FPS for Xbox One, PS4 and Switch. Which....never materialized.
They don't really do optimization, but if you want, I can link it and you can look at the thread and see the documentation of issues.

I agree with you. let's just hope someone from the develeping team see's this forum post and actually considers implementing 120 fps mode for consoles such as ps5 pro and xbox series x. i really hope they see this and act on it. Even if they need time, no problem but right now i'll just stick to playing this game on pc and try my best to avoid it on ps5 pro because it's not worth playing 60 fps. i feel it's so unfair for people who only have a console and i want them to at least have a fairer experience than what they are getting right now.
Someone may have created the longest thread in this Forum's history for just such a purpose.
-
Unless its a total or near total reversion, its gonna be bad.
Can't increase unique hook bonus without the punishments, but cant stop tunneling without offering real rewards for choosing not to tunnel.

You could say the exact same for Survivors.
The strongest strategies to play Survivor are prerunning (optimal with Sprintburst) and predropping pallets.
Both sides have really boring strategies which are way to powerful on how easy they are to pull off.
Sorry for that…

It's an absolutely valid argument. American servers, being a lot more populated, are known to be a lot less miserable than UK lobbies. If he doesnt want to, that's perfectly fine. But we're comparing a very large playerbase with a much smaller and very different one.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4027546#Comment_4027546
Your experiences are just as valid as mine. If you're a top tier killer main, congrats. I, like the majority are, am mid tier and the game is horrible and frustrating to play as killer.
If you are mid tier, you arent playing against the cream of the crop consistently.
Just not how DBD works, unless you play at degen hours in a tiny region.

Play 10 games as a below s tier in the general mmr, normal queue, during the day at the weekend on UK servers and lmk how many you win and how well the survs do lmao.
When i play with americans the game is 10x more fun and varied. I remember the night i got 8 back to back p100 pc killer mains including lilithomens blight twice. I hate being a gamer in the UK.
I will probably win all ten. I'm not going to VPN onto UK servers, that would make it much easier.
I've played against competitive teams in pubs, plus people like Tru3, Hens and others when the MMR was all weird and matching outside of my server.

That's the problem. They give survs constant buffs to help new players. Except the new players will die to any even slightly average killer regardless. What happens instead is good survs just weaponize the buffs and make the killer role even more miserable.
Even High MMR Survivors, for whatever that's worth, are dying quite often.
As are 4-man SWF's, before anyone mentions them.

You can always play with more skilled players, just outside official MM. FaceIt and other gaming platforms do offer such experience.
As for overtunned or problematic killers - that's rather subjective view. Thing is the ''treatment'' that devs do often leaves the killer in the D ( Dumpster ) or even below tier. For players who enjoyed the particular killer or even bought a rather expensive skin too, that's a massive turn-off, for some enough to leave the game for a rather long period of time.
Like I said, I did it.
Yes, well, that's the way Live Service games go. You can't just expect overpowered or problematic things to go unchanged.
-
@Green_Sliche said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4027407#Comment_4027407
For players like you who ''lack'' challenge, there's already a DBD League or alike stuff where I'm sure you will find yourself entertained or end up entertaining someone else.
The way I see it, many people may uninstall the game because of match quality inconsistency and drastic balance changes / reworks that devs tend to do. Simply speaking it's no fun when one game you get 4k with no gens being done and the other game you have 4e with barely any hooks made. As for the other reason - when a killer gets ''gutted'' one way or another, some people lose motivation to play because they no longer consider dedicating their time learning / improving a certain character since at any point their experience or knowledge can become invalidated due to mechanics being either removed or altered into less effective form.
I did dabble in competitive DBD, not sure if there's any surviving footage, but I was there lol.
I mean, if you only liked a character because they were strong, or problematic, that's on you. I enjoyed playing OG Legion, I wasn't upset when he got changed. I was upset he was dumpstered for 3 years, but I understood that he was massively problematic and needed to get changed drastically.

Seems to be spot on...
As someone who doesn't tunnel, slug or camp, who likes playing Pig because her RBTs give her a reason baked into her design not to tunnel... I've never known this game be harder for my killer.
Pallets everywhere, barely any tiles I can actually play my power cause people just leave tile and hold W to the next pallet every time I crouch... and there is ALWAYS another pallet in reach. Every single mechanism of putting up a fight outside of stacking gen perks to slow down the game and tunneling has just become increasingly trash... and nowadays I end up fighting my arse off every game just to get 4 hooks. Genuinely I find Trapper easier, because at least on Trapper I can shut down the god pallet chains eventually...
Like ye I can dominate scrubs, but you can immediately feel whether a Survivor is good or bad in this game, and trying to catch a good one is just such a fast track to embarrassment in so many maps now if you're playimg off meta/not playing uber sweaty.
The PTB isn't gonna change how I play, I already play that way... but it looks so unbelievably miserable... I already have to look at going balls to the wall sweaty just to not get run over with Pig now... and if I get in a bad mood from getting smoked on repeat, I have to fall back to playing nasty and going hard. Will be even worse now, since the buffs to Survivor are taking away even more lethality from my RBTs, and I'm gonna have people weaponising the anti-tunnel effects to screw me even more than the game already does with its endless scores of pallets.
Trying to play fun is just punished so hard in this game... 😒
I don't even think it's necessarily unbalanced, but the doubling-down on anti-fun is baffling.
The game was better when there was more busted stuff on either side, it was chaotic and you never knew what you were getting. Yeah, it could be really frustrating. But there was also way more fun to be had in a pre-MMR world.

It's boring. There's almost no reward for improving.
I have to play twenty matches on average until I'm challenged, unless I'm running some kind of meme build or purposefully handicapping myself.
The best strategies (tunneling, proxying and situational slugging) are all the same as they were when I started playing eight years ago. Eight years of a single meta is horrifically boring, not even getting into a balance discussion. The game actively punishes you for trying to avoid those strategies and continuously rewards you for using them, despite the fact that nobody likes to play against them.
To summarize, Killer is boring because the lowest skill strategies, which have been meta for almost a decade, are encouraged whilst high skill expression is continuously penalized. Couple that with general burnout and a lack of challenge, and you get a very bored and disappointed Killer main.

Hey, thank you for that last line. Although there is "bloodlust" and BP incentives, both of these are not good incentives mid game.
Over half the killers that need the bloodlust lose it for using their power
The others ether get okay milage or dont need it
That is why I am a fan of the first iteration. All this version does is piss people off on either side of the issue.
Yes, the first iteration was too harsh. However, we could've adjusted it, we could've adjusted the incentives as well.
I suspect they'll just shift the BL over to Haste and call it a day, having solved absolutely nothing.
