I agree. At this point I'd like to hear something like "We know we set a goal of 60fps minimum for all platforms, but we underestimated the difficulties of achieving that goal with the last gen consoles and our planned improvements. As it turned out, these graphical updates here and those design choices over there, etc. proved to be beyond being consistently run on them..."

Because that's what I think happened, with a full & proper optimization no longer possible. And to avoid pissing off such a huge chunk of the playerbase they opted for silent running. A bandaid basically.

I don't even think that's true, but it'd be better than what we have now.

That sad part is, that kinda lag is guaranteed to happen like at least five times a match.

    Unfortunately.

Despite there being nearly 10 pages, BHVR still hasn't responded to us, even when presented with overwhelming evidence that the game barely functions on Console.

I mean most killers are in a good spot ATM and very close together and viable (short of done QOL stuff for someone like trapper) There's only 2 that stand above the rest. If you can make those 2 killers closer to the pack and weaken survivors as a whole in some ways(even if it's map changes so you can't be looped forever). It would be a happy medium

    Agree to disagree?

That's the point I'm making. The problem IS spirit. But we all know SWF/elite survivors need toned a little. The answer isn't to keep spirit miserable to go against just to deal with "death squads" that are rare to go up against anyways. The answer is to make objectives take a little longer. Adding other objectives possibly. Or even just weaking maps. By making RNG. Only spawn a max number of pallets, LT walls, and making a breakable wall at shack like in dead dawg. So a killer can't be looped forever on rediculous maps and RNG

The real issue is that a Killer needs to be absurdly strong to deal with good Survivors/SWF, which means Solo's will have a terrible time.

But if a Killer is built to deal with Solo's, then the Killer will have a miserable time against good Survivors/SWF.

There is no way to make everyone happy if we do not balance around SWF and buff Solo Q.

She always has, you just haven't been paying attention. Its one of the first things I complained about in her kit and the devs have yet to remove it. Luckily enough though, most survivors are too tunnel vision to notice that type of thing. The 2 or 3 survivors that I've faced who do pick up on that queue gave me the most trouble I've ever had on a spirit.

any clips showing this? I’ve never noticed it personally. Anyway if this is the case that’s great! It means both killers and survivors have to avoid grass in order to hide their location from each other

    For the both of you.

I keep seeing people say you can use grass/corn to track a Spirit phase walking.

    THIS IS FALSE.

Spirit phase walk does not affect the environment at all. Grass/corn does not move while she passes through it during phase walk. If you don't believe me then try it yourself with a friend in KYF.

The ONLY thing that reacts to Spirit phase walk are crows.

Some of the comments in this thread hurt my brain cells. It ranges from "spirit isn't OP" and "kill stats from BHVR back this up !" to "can't nerf one of only 2 killers that can deal with talented SWFS !"

I do think that nerfing one of the Killers who can deal with the top % of Survivors without nerfing those top % Survivors would be foolish.

In order for Spirit to be changed, we need to balance around SWF. Buff Solo's and buff the rest of the Killer cast.

Those "average boosted red ranks" should't play with or against those people anways if we would be honest. A boosted red rank would normally be a green or purple rank at best.

    True.

So what? You expect to ALWAYS 4k every game? Get real. They were better than you, but they probably also don't win 100% of their games (as you claim you do yourself as killer). Think of them as the survivor equivalent of yourself.

No, I do not expect to 4K every game.

I do expect to have a chance to though, just like Survivors expect to have a chance to escape every game.

Like I've said previously, I know the game isn't balanced around people like them. It's the BM and the fact that they've bullied other people who are average boosted Red Ranks.

  • That's fair.

I've got a hearing issue, so I've stayed away from Spirit for that reason, but I might give her a shot.

  • @Bwsted said:

I don't condone the taunting. However, it's a video game. So, I don't expect to face mature people very often. You just need to let it go and not pay attention to it.

As for the gameplay, when you play a non-meta killer with a fun build, you run this risk if you match with a full sweat team. I know, because I do the same. The matchmaking doesn't account for it. We all know the deal.

However, I remember you said not long ago that you couldn't remember the last time a survivor escaped against you. It's kinda surprising, to say the least, for someone to say something like that and then being so upset at having had a single bad game while not even going into it with a sweaty loadout.

I'm upset for myself because of the taunting post-game.

I know the game isn't balanced for people like them. I know that. I can deal with it.

It's when these people go above and beyond to not only BM in the game, but outside of it too. I feel like ######### because I lost a match and felt like there was no possibility of a win. I do not need 3 people bombarding me with messages telling me how much I suck and how trash I am to further solidify my mental state.

But what really pisses me off is that if they did this to me, who (hopefully) does know what they are doing, then what in the actual ######### have they been doing to people who just got to Red Ranks?

  • because they matched against someone who knew what they were doing and absolutely obliterated them, and I stood no chance.

I can only imagine what they do to people who are average Red Ranks.

  • @AVoiceOfReason said:

There is always a way to win, @Pulsar . ALWAYS a way but not always the "fun" way against survivors. That is the problem with how the game rewards you depending on which side you're playing. You have to draw out the game a bit too long to win as killer but also get punished for killing too fast. You take too long and you might end up giving too much leverage for survivors to do the objective without any real threat. You do too fast and they get a ######### match and you still depip for the trouble. Slugging is necessary and sometimes even face camping a final hook to ensure an easier match is a necessary evil, even when frowned upon. That's the essence of this game.

I'm well aware of the different ways to win.

I am simply stating that I've reviewed the footage and there was not a way for me to have pulled that game back.

It took me forever to get a down, and by the time I did get it, 3 gens were done. 2nd down and all the gens were done.

I tried switching targets, not chasing in certain areas and every trick I know. Didn't help.

Guess it's a shame that I play on Console.

Meanwhile there is a ton of survivors AND killer in red ranks, that simply don't belong in there. Killers with noed who camp their first hook, survivors who just crouch around the edge of the map with no clue how looping works etc.

Doubt it. Not only have I not dropped out of Red Ranks since May of 2019, but that was only the 2nd game people escaped through the Exit Gates against me in 2021. The other game was versus the same people.

Those matches are rare but they happen, don't let it get to you. Just drop a GG and move on.

Killer would go over, smack them down (which was why they never hooked people) and then go right back to standing in front of the gen. Rinse and repeat.

Still not a reportable offense, to my knowledge.

The Survivors could do a gen, it would just be difficult.

    [0] -- Introduction -- [0]

Hello. Over the weekend I have collected a handful of clips showcasing the various issues that plague Blight players who use him on controller, otherwise known as a gamepad. It is my hope that this collection of clips and explanations of what is wrong with him can and will be used as a basis for re-programming him to be better on a controller and more in-line with mouse and keyboard.

To start off, there are a few things to note:

    1. All gameplay is my own, and with the exception of one clip, has been recorded on the current patch (4.5.2).
    2. All gameplay has been recorded on a slim model PS4 using a standard wireless DualShock 4 generation 2 controller (the one with the light visible through the touchpad).
    3. All gameplay has been recorded using the share function of the PS4. Forgive the quality.
    4. All clips have descriptions on imgur themselves, as well as thoughts in this thread proper. Some clips are grouped in the same link. On PC, you can use the arrows that appear when you hover over the clip to cycle between them.

Now without further ado, let's dig in.

    [1] -- What Blight Can Do on Mouse & Keyboard -- [1]

If there is to be talk about Blight's faults on controller, t's important to see what a Blight player is capable of on mouse and keyboard. Thanks to the various content creators on Twitch, YouTube, and elsewhere, there is plenty of source material to choose from. For the purpose of comparing and contrasting the differences between the two input methods, I'll use a recent match that Fog Whisperer Tru3ta1ent played and uploaded recently:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSuH3yMyNYg

There are many instances where Blight is able to get up to (and even beyond) 90 degree hits, or at the very least attempt to, due to flicking during the lunge. The turning on the rush action itself also allows for a certain degree of freedom, both in movement and camera control, that only mouse and keyboard is able to provide currently. The full match is worth a watch to get a feel for how Blight works on mouse and keyboard, but here are timestamps for lunge hit/attempt examples included in the video:

    • 35s: Nea is hit at an effectively 90 degree angle at a hay bale loop.
    • 57s: An attempt is made to hit Yui with an effectively 90 degree angle on the tractor.
    • 1:50: Nea is hit by rounding the corner inside the cowshed with a flick at the very start of the lunge.
    • 2:45: Felix is hit next to the tractor with a 90 degree flick at the start of the lunge.
    • 4:20: An attempt is made to hit Dwight in the cowshed with a 90 degree flick at the start of the lunge

As seen in the video, Blight is capable of some nasty hits with his power when played properly on mouse and keyboard, comparable to hits that Oni can pull off when Demon Dashing. There is still counterplay in a chase by knowing his angles, but he is very capable with some geometrical knowledge, flick reactions, tracking, and predicting survivor movements. He is a force to be reckoned with when in capable hands, as he should be. But not on controller, and here are the reasons why.

    [2] -- Rush, Lunge & Fatigue Fundamentals -- [2]

Before we get into the hit missing, we have to look at the fundamentals of what Blight's rush, lunge, and fatigue look likes on controller in an easy-to-read environment. It's important to understand two things: One, Blight's rush and lethal rush are normally unaffected by the "killer sensitivity" setting in the options menu. Two, Blight's rush attack and rush attack fatigue are also unaffected by the "killer sensitivity" setting in the options menu. The only thing that killer sensitivity does for Blight is allow him to adjust his camera faster/slower during a slam (and normal "M1" killer gameplay).

    First, the lunge clips:

    https://imgur.com/a/qizjdeP

As seen in the clips, no matter what a controller Blight does, they cannot get nearly the same control over their lunge that mouse and keyboard users are capable of. Their angle of attack is thus extremely limited, and prone to being easily dodged by attentive survivors. Most survivors can simply move a little left or right and there is nothing the Blight can do about it. And due to the angle issue, Blight becomes much less effective even in situations where the survivor does nothing at all, or the Blight should have the angle on them (such as in a loop, or in a tight corner as Felix was found in the video at 2:45).

Second, this is what a series of rushes looks like:

    https://imgur.com/a/yTBBLKI

The most important part of this clip is the end, where the Blight decides to turn toward the hill to initiate a chase with the Nancy seen and heard on the way back to the hook. As you can see, the turning leaves quite a bit to be desired. This is especially true considering that both turning add-ons are being used in this clip. Even with these add-ons, it can be difficult to go precisely where one wishes to go because of the look sensitivity being far too low.

    Lastly, the fatigue clips:

    https://imgur.com/a/Y7srcY9

As seen in the clips, Blight has two different sensitivities when in the fatigue animation after a rush. The first clip showcases what, ideally, should happen: The Blight's sensitivity is reverted to whatever the killer sensitivity is set in the options menu. The second shows what happens if the Blight decides to lunge after a rush, regardless of whether a hit was landed or not: The Blight's sensitivity is slowed to a degree that they cannot visually track a survivor that has ran behind them until the fatigue is over.

This is a quirk shared by Demogorgon during Shred's attack cooldowns, as well as on Oni during Blood Fury's activation. Curiously, it doesn't exist on killers like Legion during their Feral Frenzy fatigue, or the Twins when a pounce is missed as Victor.

This sensitivity slowdown, along with the other instances mentioned, feel really bad on controller, but can actually be mitigated somewhat on mouse and keyboard with enough DPI and mouse space. Thus furthering the gap between the two input methods.

    [3] -- A Few Misses and a Bug or Two -- [3]

Truthfully, a thousand clips could be recorded to show how many hits are missed due to Blight's controller woes. It is a major cause of frustration for those who wish to be the speedy hunchbacked Scottish man. But for the purpose of this thread, we'll be looking at two in particular, as well as a third that just doesn't make a lick of sense.

    https://imgur.com/a/cUzuVgt

As seen in this clip, the Ace is oblivious to the Blight's location and is attempting to be sneaky in a bush. There is an attempt to hit the Ace, which would be a free hit on mouse and keyboard, but the hit fails because the lunge sensitivity doesn't adjust fast enough to position the "hurtbox" of the lunge on Ace's hitbox. This is a situation that happens often, wherein the Blight narrowly misses a survivor and slides past them, often never to be seen again due to having to deal with the fatigue sensitivity issue after a lunge.

The most disheartening scenario, however, which will be dubbed the "full commitment problem", is in this clip:

    https://imgur.com/a/VjCBE8n

The main issue with controller Blight is that there is no way to properly react to a survivor attempting to dodge a lunge. Because of this, a controller Blight is conditioned (forced, really) to full commit to a lunge direction before the lunge even begins. In the above clip, you can see this perfectly. The Nea is running down the hallway, makes it to the corner and starts running down the adjacent hallway, and then narrowly avoids the hit by dodging left while the Blight makes a full commitment to the right. You can see the attempt to adjust the lunge left (albeit late), but it doesn't do much of anything.

A mouse and keyboard Blight could simply start the lunge while running straight at her and flick to wherever she goes for an easy hit. Or even start going right and then flick left. Controller Blights have no such mechanical skill to develop.

    This next one's a doozy:

    https://imgur.com/a/hasRGZD

Truthfully there's no good explanation as to why this hit missed. It isn't something that happens often, so it's not terribly concerning. However, what happens during the fatigue is a common occurrence. There is a bug wherein the Blight player is unable to move at all during the entirety of the fatigue animation. In my personal experience, this bug usually occurs only after a lunge, and typically when a lunge narrowly misses the survivor. It feels similar to when Blight breaks a pallet with a lunge attack, except the camera can still be moved.

Finally, there is this bug, which has been around since Blight's release (said clip is from that time):

    https://imgur.com/a/jM9jsbl

Basically, the Blight's sensitivity is set to the player's killer sensitivity during a lethal rush lunge. The easiest and most consistent way to replicate this is:

    1. Rush and collide with an object.
    2. Immediately rush and attack.
    3. Hold the stick left/right while lunging.

It's a very disorienting bug when it happens in a chase, and can easily cost hits at key moments, particularly around windows. It's something that might become less of a problem if his other problems are addressed first.

    [4] -- Conclusion, Final Thoughts -- [4]

In conclusion, Blight is in a really bad spot on controller, and he's never really seen better days. His various sensitivities are undertuned as all heck and he's got a few bugs that put the nail in his plastic-y gamepad coffin. You can play him against less attentive survivors, but even against those you'll more often than not be forced to play him as a standard M1 killer, albeit with a way to get around faster. Which defeats the purpose of playing him in the first place.

Blight is probably one of the funnest killers ever added to Dead by Daylight for those who love a faster, more aggressive playstyle. I hope that his flaws on controller can be ironed out, if not to the point of being exactly as good as on mouse & keyboard, at least close enough to where there is significantly less frustration experienced when playing him.

Special thanks to MandyTalk for explicitly asking for this feedback and thus giving me the motivation to go a little more in-depth with it rather than complain in every Blight related thread until the end of time. I do not believe that is accurate. Last I checked no one knows.

It is possible that they have updated it.

Assuming this is true however, rank is still useless. Its not valid for match making at all.

    Rank is used for matchmaking.

I can try to @ one of the Mods to confirm.

From my understanding, it tries to match you within X ranks of your current Rank and if it takes too long, it expands the potential Ranks.

This is a great point. Killers have been buffed constantly and survivors have been nerfed constantly.

If there is a shortage of killers it is because the role is too ez and not challenging. When the game was more fair killer queues were abysmal.

But it really is exaggerated because most of the time survivor queues are very instant and killers have to wait. It only changes at certain times of the day. It is a false rumor that killers are not wanting to play because it is too hard. Killers should stop saying that.

I wish I could play Survivor without waiting for 15 minutes.

  • @DerpyPlayz said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/248508/is-this-normal-matchmaking

Rank is NOT used for matchmaking.

No one, (to my knowledge not even the mods) understand what is used for match making. So this is normal.

Rank used to be used for match making, then they swapped to a MMR system and then they down the road removed that and no one knows what the match making system is now.

The reason for this is Rank means NOTHING, and even the devs have came out and said this. Rank only correlates to playtime and this is ALL it means.

Rank is used for matching currently. MMR was briefly tested twice and will be activated eventually.

The issue is that there are very few Killers compared to Survivors, meaning the matchmaker will try to toss people who have been in queue the longest into a match, regardless of Rank.

What annoyed me the most in these matches is, that I can try as hard as I want but I can't do anything. The only way for me to get a kill in that match would have been camping on the hook when I was able to get someone onto it.

    Then that's what you do.

If you want to win, a lot of times you have to play "dirty." It's unfortunate.

  • Unfortunately, yeah, that's pretty typical.

I play Killer frequently but I almost never even see keys in lobbies, and even when I do I just put on slightly better addons and end up winning anyways. I'm 99% sure everyone is overexaggerating to the extreme on how often they see keys and how strong they are.

I got Key'd 10 times in the 2 days following the Mid Chapter.

  • If I see OoO, I have to assume the worst.

    Nothing personal.
