I respect your opinion, but I don't agree. If tunneling were necessary I don't believe BHVR would be actively working to reduce it. They've implemented anti-tunnel perks, added base-kit changes, and have more on the way. If survviors were winning too much, It wouldn't make sense to actively make tunneling harder.

The logic doesn't make sense. Why would they make it more difficult for killres to win by adding more anti-tunnel changes unless they believed killers can still succeed without relying on tunneling? I feel it's contradictory to say that killers have to tunnel while at the same time, the devs are trying to move away from tunneling, and still aim to maintain a 60% killrate. I haven't seen any sort've data that proves that tunneling is required to maintain that killrate.

Now, if that turns out to be the case, and nerfing/discourage of tunneling does result in a large drop of killer winrates, then the solution should be base-kit changes and buffs to killers rather then keeping them in a state in which they are forced to rely on a singular tactic to win. But until there's some kind of proof of this, it doesn't make sense to ignore the proof we do have that contradicts it.

same could be said for slugging, what was the anti slugging solution? So far the solution is to allow survivors to surrender when slugged, not prevent slugging from actually happening. Similar approach to tunneling, they will introduce certain counters, maybe make it a bit harder to tunnel but they won't stop it happening or remove how effective it is.

"Are you saying it's skillful to find the hatch before the survivor?"

never said it did. The difference is that when there's 2 survivors left and you are able to down one of them, only can the killer even be able to hold the game hostage. Not the survivors. Killer can hook and kill the 3rd survivor and then if they find hatch they can close it and the survivor is forced to either die to EGC or try to get a gate open. And trust me, killers slug for the 4k WAAAY more than the scenario you're talking about where the last survivors just refuse to touch gens. Be real. Finding survivors isn't hard and the way you worded it you make it seem like you just chase the last two survivors off gens while refusing to commit to chase.

i just don't see the point in purposely letting a game drag out for an additional 4 minutes when it's faster to just hook Survivor #3 and then play hatch. And if the last survivor happens to find hatch before you do so what? 3k + hatch escape is still considered a win for the Killer, your MMR still goes up AND you still usually pip.

"I'd argue it takes more skill slugging the 3rd survivor then actively chasing and downing the last one legitimately instead of killing 3rd survivor then rely on luck of the hatch"

how so? If there's 2 survivors left and you down one of them and don't immediately pick up, their teammate is obviously gonna pick up on what it is you're trying to do and they'll usually respond in one of two ways: 1) hide the entire 4 minutes out of spite, or 2) try to hide for like 30 seconds but then get bored and not wanna participate in that stupid loser ######### and so they'll carelessly run out in the open to revive their teammate. In the case of the latter, you getting your 4k that way had nothing to do with you having any "skill" it just meant the survivor has more of a life than you.

Nah trust me is a very regular occurrence survivors refuse to touch gens when it's 2 v 1. Not so much now because they want the abandon option but before the update it was almost every match last 2 would hide, that's exactly why they gave killers choice to abandon after 10min, because it was so prevalent and an issue that required attention.

It's already been confirmed by the Devs that avoiding gens and hiding is not engaging in normal play and is in fact holding game hostage as they are not progressing the match, that's why they gave killers the abandon. It's also been confirmed slugging is not holding the game hostage as the slug timer is progressing the match just like the hook timer would.

True 3k is a win but 4k is a better win that gives more BP so why not go for it?

Assuming the last player is waiting the 4min for the hatch and the killer finds them then the killer still needs to chase and down that survivor. The chase is the skill part, more skill than waiting for the luck of the hatch. Which was often the case before the update. Both would hide, I would slug 1, find the other and chase them. Sometimes the 3rd would get themselves up with unbreakable during the chase and I would need to repeat the chase and down again further showing skill. Besides the point, I really don't think killer skill should be under scrutiny when survivor skill is also non existent, waiting for hatch hiding in lockers relying on luck to get the hatch after failing to do gens shows no skill at all.

I for one am very happy bhvr has put an end to survivor holding game hostage, avoiding the objective and also happy the cheap, lucky hatch escapes after failing their objective is finally over. Like I said, if survivors are willing to admit defeat they can come to me whenever they want and I will happily down them so they can move on but if they want to wait it out for 10min that's fine too. Hell of a lot better than waiting a full hour. Survivors have this choice.

  • Definitely hacker

  • @BreadSilence said:

4ks are completely meaningless outside bog Adept achievemens and Tome challenges (which 99.9% of killers that do this stuff aren't going for). And even so if you have to bleed out the second-to-last survivor to get said 4k, then there was nothing skillful at all (which I thought was supposed to be the point of a killer wanting a 4k, for bragging rights or whatever) about it cus it usually just means the last survivor got bored and didn't wanna hide in lockers and crouch in corners for 4 while whole minutes.

Just stop. If you 3k and the last survivor happens to find hatch before you it's still a win for you, the killer. I promise you're mommy and daddy aren't gonna disown you.

Are you saying it's skillful to find the hatch before the survivor? You can't be saying that surly, when hatch is rng based, sometimes it appears next to the killer sometimes it appears under the survivors feet. That would be luck based not skill. I'd argue it takes more skill slugging the 3rd survivor then actively chasing and downing the last one legitimately instead of killing 3rd survivor then rely on luck of the hatch and best case scenario close hatch to start egc and wait.

  • I know from experience survivors very often would avoid gens hiding, waiting for up to an hour out of pettiness so I have no sympathy for them. Also most of the time survivors know the match is done and can't do gens so they come to me to get the match over which I'm happy to oblige. But if they decide to wait it out for 10min that's on them. They are willing to wait however long it takes to MAYBE get a hatch. Works both ways.

why does friends til the end encourage tunneling? When I hook the obsession, the new obsession becomes the survivor who just got off hook before I went to the obsession (at least 90% of the time). I see their aura, so I want to go to them, so I can get a different survivor as obsession. It’s just kinda weird that a perk encourages a play-style often frowned upon amoungst the community… tunneling has its uses, I’m not saying I’m against it. I’m just saying as a perk it shouldn’t boost that method.

Probably because while the community frown upon it the Devs want tunneling to remain a tactic that can be used. Just like slugging. Slugging is also frowned upon but there are killers literally built around this tactic such as twins. The Devs answer isn't to prevent it happening but to give survivors the ability to surrender when they are all slugged. Tunneling is no different.

  • Are you seriously saying they are not linked? Next phase says anti slugging | continued improvements..your saying the continued improvements are not linked to the anti slugging? If you are saying there is no link between them because of the layout with a dividing line then there truly is no hope in explaining anything further as you seem to be the type of person that will argue until the end of time, disregard any evidence shown with crazy things like there is divide line lol. Even if the Devs themselves told you personally you would probably have a crazy theory that they are not real Devs and you saw no evidence they were who they say there were as you haven't seen their birth certificate or something.

    Screenshot_20250410_071033_Chrome.jpg

I am actually curious tho, how do you explain the surrender option being added if the Devs were intending on preventing slugging with a separate anti slug mechanic? Makes no sense to add surrender option when all players are slugged if they intend to prevent slugging with an anti slug. Some things you don't evidence, just need common sense and a little logic to work out.

  • If you haven't got the iri rank 1 by now then I'd say don't bother, just go killer and farm BP. Can get 1mil BP in a few matches.

    Curious.

You could try to VPN to Frankfurt servers instead. Shouldn't be nearly as far.

I might give that a go, see if it improves the matchmaking 👍

That should not be possible unless they hard locked you to a regional server.

Most UK players used to go to the Europe Servers.

I was told use VPN and join American servers but I don't like the thought of ping shooting up so I haven't bothered. I agree shouldn't be possible but matchmaking has been broken for a while so I just take it as it is

  • @Pulsar said:

    How.

There's no way you should be matching with the same people back to back unless you are crossplay off

I don't know how, I never have cross play off. last I heard it had something to do with UK servers being a small pool of players or the MMR or the time I'm playing but whatever the reason, I'm frequently getting swf squads. I mentioned a while ago about it, these swf would DC in loading screen when they see my offering. It's not just a 1 time thing either, it's happening so often a few of the swf teams I have been matched with have asked me to dodge them because even they are fed up with going against me lol they know my ping off by heart, they know my builds everything. It's crazy. They even know it's me at the start with the offerings I use.

Careful you don't bring the kill rate down by allowing too many to survive. Don't want bhvr thinking the killer isnt op because survivors are escaping. I think it would be better if everyone went nuts making sure no one survived so Devs can give ghoul a slap in the face with the nerf hand.

Most survivors don't run gen builds, because they only make the least interesting part of the game faster. The only non-genrush perks this messes with are like Flashbang, Blast Mine, and Wire Tap. And I guess, like, Aestri's perks, but those are mostly for the memes anyway.

Most survivors are running some combination of anti-tunnel, anti-slug, chase, and info perks.

Killers absolutely need at least a little bit of gen slowdown in their build unless there's a massive skill discrepancy or they're cracked at a high A or S tier killer.

Incidentally, this means I'm still losing most of the time in this mode as survivor because of all of the Ghouls, since you can get great results with them without much effort.

It sounds like your refering exclusively the soloq. In solo people don't usually gen rush, they actually avoid gens because it's boring. But SWF that play to win absolutely do gen rush, they also have no need for anti slug perks or info perks due to the fact they get these from coms.

The reason why the event is survivor sided is because swf in particular don't need gen rush builds as it's basekit with the speed of the new blood gens, they don't need info perks as they use coms so they are free to all use chase perks without compromising anything like info or gen speeds. Makes downing people very difficult. The ghoul is the main issue here, incredibly OP and new so survivors are dropping fast. But without ghoul I would say the event is very survivor sided. It just so happens many solo players don't touch gens which means killers are tearing people apart.

I've played thousands of hours of killer. The fact is that like 90% of the time it just isn't necessary to win.

And yet some (not most, thankfully) killer players do it every single match and attempt to justify it with the myth that every other game is against a tough four man SWF. The reality is that most matches feature solo queue players of mixed MMR, and you can win consistently simply by spreading pressure and macro gameplay.

Though it depends on the killer you're playing, generally speaking not being able to spread pressure is a lot more of a skill issue than not being able to escape being tunneled.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3908545#Comment_3908545

I get that, and I do think a tunnel can be fun, but only in a really narrow set of circumstances; like the game is on the line (so not right off the bat with the first surv you find) and the team you're playing is really good. Like you have to get someone out right then or you're going to lose. And you're going to have to work for it. Then the pressure is mutual.

Otherwise it's just punishing some player in a game you were probably going to win anyway. And since I also play a lot of surv, I don't want to do that to people unless I have to. And since you can't know how strong your opponent is going in (at least in public matches), I never start a game with a tunnel.

And I fully recognize that you will lose a game here or there by not tunneling early, but that's okay with me. I just don't get the massive aversion people have to losing a match here or there. I'd rather lose the occasional match than just dogwalk everyone, and the rush of playing from behind is more fun than trying to eliminate the risk of losing by playing like a robot.

I wish I was getting your matches then because my matches is mostly swf teams, maybe 1 solo player. Huge majority of my matches seem to be 2 lots of 2 man swf and 3 man sed with a handful of 4 man swf. That's the reality of my matches. I know there are swf because they are the same teams I have faced previously. I went like 3 hours alternating between 2 different 4 man swf a few months ago. 100% not a myth lol

Complains of gen rush and admits to tunneling cause of gen rush as killer but at the same time complaining about team mates not doing gens. Jesus Christ bro.

Pretty much explains the big issue with the game doesn't it? Swf do gens so fast killers need to tunnel but soloq refuse to touch gens which often leads them to DC, go next or get steamrolled. Makes perfect sense being my killer matches are consistently against swf squads but when I play survivor i do soloq.

I don't think you're right. The majority of high-MMR survivors enjoy chase and looping, especially the survivor Youtubers, who constantly say that anything that's not chase related is boring as survivor. But that's just for content. WATCHING survivor gameplay on Youtube/etc is boring if they're just sat on gens all game, but playing the game is different. Playing as killer is very much about being in constant action, and the people who enter a match as killer do so for this reason, whereas a lot of survivors want to play survivor as it's a lot more chill. But with the current state of the game, most survivors are having to enter a chase every couple minutes. Some might like it, but I personally just hate that side of things, and a lot of people I speak to, that are not high level players, think the same way.

Being chased is part of the game as survivor, but the constant chasing is just a bit much. Killers almost always enter with at least 1 or 2 aura perks, but survivor stealth perks like Distortion gets nerfed. The survivors who enjoyed the stealth element of the game back in the day are playing much less or not at all, hence the massive increase in killer queue times over the last couple years, and the almost non-existent queue times for survivors.

The love of looping and view of it being the only skill thing with survivor isn't restricted to content creators at all. It's insane how many matches I have that regular players say this post match as killer and survivor. I often ask why didn't they do gens and they almost always respond with "because it's boring". As survivor I do gens because soloq is awful due to so many people refusing to touch gens, I play stealth just fine, I pre run, lose line of sight when possible and I don't get tunneled anywhere near as much as most people.

    They want chases

So you think chasing one person until they die is satisfying this?

What do you think the other 3 players are doing while over person gets chased? Gens! It's always gens.

So one person's experience is: chased, hooked, downed, repeat until dead. You didn't get to recover, you didn't get to do challenges, or anything that might be considered "well rounded gameplay".

In fact, unless you bring a "full array of anti tunnel and chase perks" it's usually blamed on you (on these forums at least) that it's somehow your fault.

If you do bring 4 anti tunnel and chase perks, people complain and usually those perks get nerfed.

Either way, the person tunneled out gets about 5k BP to show for it, and they largely have no choice in the matter. The killer wanted to win, and the first survivor's match got cut short because of it. Literally: good luck next.

For the other 3: better hope you sit on gens and can finish them all before that one person is tunneled out. Your gameplay is staring at a progress bar, and coincidentally, despite any attempts you may make to change that, it's not chases.

If you're lucky, and that's all it is is luck, you might escape about 30-40% of the time. Unlucky? Well, the game is over and your progress bar means nothing, good luck next.

So 3 out of 4 aren't being chased, and even then no one is getting the well rounded gameplay that the game rewards.

This comment is so disingenuous I'm just gonna start responding to it with crap like "killers bring regression perks then complain about the rushing, how can you use your perks if survivors don't do gens?" It's that level of tone deaf.

As survivor I often find people will do almost anything to avoid gens, that's why I'm usually the gen worker because if I don't do them no one will because they are all trying to get chases or doing totems or something. The only time 1 is being chased with 3 on gens is when I'm killer v swf. The vast majority of the time I get tunnelled out I don't blame the killer, I blame the team mates that refuse to touch gens.

Your right it's luck based but that's due to the soloq team mates and if they are actually doing gens or not. That's a team issue not a tunnel issue. Besides, with the go next thing as rampant is it is I would have thought being tunneled out fast would be a good thing so people can get to the next match and try again asap.

  • @THE_Crazy_Hyena said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3908504#Comment_3908504

I think it's not that people want chases, but they don't want to be forced to do just one thing for the entire match, with the most likely scenario of not having the slightest chance of escaping, unless they play in a full co-ordinated SWF.

but the majority of survivors openly admit to chases and looping being the only fun part of survivor and the only skillful action. With this being the case, survivors seem to like and want to be chased but when they get caught they say "ok now I don't want to be chased". But it's the only fun and skilful part for a survivor. they love being tunneled if they can loop forever to give the team time to do gens that's exactly what many survivors want, to do that 1 thing all match but they suddenly don't like it if they get hooked. Seems a bit wishy washy to me.

  • I'm not really sure why people have an issue with tunneling. They want chases... tunneling means they get chases. If people improved their looping or lose line of sight then it doesn't matter how much the killer tunnels, the killer will lose. Yes the killer might get the tunneled player out but if that results in the killer getting 1 or 2 kills every match it won't make it an appealing tactic and it will make tunneling less common. There are perks to aid the survivor in lasting longer against a tunneling killer, the team needs to use this time to do gens and not spend ages hovering around the killer trying to go for a flashlight save when the killer clearly has light born. Put simply if people can't beat a tunneling killer then it's a skill issue.

Last week I used head on to stun a killer for a challenge, this really annoyed them and they literally chased me all match. By the time they hooked me twice all gens were done by the rest of the team, during egc the team saved me and it was 4 man escape. This is soloq.

Survivor has surrender option, that is anti slug

Killers winning faster when slugging is not 'anti-slug'. This feature was not announced with any intent of the sort given to it.

Literally nothing else of what you've said has any evidence to back it up.

Same happened with chaos shuffle because killers couldn't slow the gens down.

Was it that, or was it the knowledge that all anti-tunnel measures were also knocked out?

Because, quick reminder, when gens actually -were- slowed down in 6.1, tunnelling ALSO went up. Why? Because anti-tunnel got nerfed.

It's almost like tunnelling is a cheap and easy shortcut to victory that will be used irrespective of gen speeds.

Keep in mind that, by definition, in any match that a killer loses, the gens went 'too fast'. There's no gen speed that will never run into the 'gens too fast, gotta tunnel' mindset.

surrender option not announced with any intent of the sort given to it? Seems in this official announcement it clearly states anti slugging surrender option.

    the anti slug

    They never implemented any anti-slug.

perks designed to counter these tactics being nerfed

The only one that copped a nerf was DS, as part of the meta shake-up. At the same time, they made OTR into an anti-tunnel perk, and they've since released another anti-tunnel. They have been ramping up the countermeasures to these tactics, and now they've announced they're going to do more.

Survivor has surrender option, that is anti slug because so many people were complaining they didn't like being slugged and forced to wait 4min. makes no sense to have surrender option when all are slugged if they intend to stop slugging, they are keeping it as a valid tactic a killer can use. Just like the anti face camp didn't do anything because they want to keep these tactics valid options for the killer. I think similar things will be done with tunneling, they won't stop it happening but they might make it better for survivors to handle it. I can almost guarantee they won't nerf tunneling so much it's no longer effective. It's become a necessity for killers and they want survivors to use perks to counter it, like you said they are ramping up countermeasures but there will never be a countermeasure that effective that tunneling is stopped. OTR, DS, STB, I look forward to other perks to counter tunneling because I'm confident I can adapt and still keep tunneling as an effective play style.

Look at the blood moon event, perfect example of what happens when killers regress perks are not available and gens go faster. So many people saying tunneling is crazy in the event, way more than regular mode. Same happened with chaos shuffle because killers couldn't slow the gens down. Because without regress perks killers need to tunnel. The Devs will not reduce the killer to a linear 1 method play style where tunneling and slugging are or no longer effective and killers need to use regress perks all the time. If they ever did do that they would lose a lot players and bhvr knows it otherwise they would have stopped it long ago.

I cant even see how tunneling is fun from the killers perspective.

To be fair I don't see how sitting on a gen for ages or going in circles around a pallet looping like a comedy sketch is fun but survivors seem to love it.

Why both sides can’t be given the option to surrender at any time after 10 minutes from the start of the match?

    Why 10 minutes?
In almost a hundred percent of games, after this time (and sometimes even earlier) the result of the match will be clear, but in our game there is one tiny little problem that the developers decided to ignore. I'm talking about the fact that players can become hostages of the match. By cheaters.

Yes, they are the ones who hold players hostage for an hour before the game server is closed. And even of the current conditions allowing to surrender don't help, because cheater can do 5 gens and didnt open the gate to not triggering collapse. And how nice it would be if a survivor or killer could surrender after 10 minutes from the start of the match to avoid wasting an hour of their life.

Oh yeah, there is an alternative option: I can leave the match prematurely and get penalized for it. Because it's my fault for getting caught in a match with a cheater, not the developer who didn't provide tools to avoid such situations.

I could also provide you more disadvantages of the surrender system are, but please, solve this first.

I think that's more an issue with the cheaters not the surrender option. Im loving the killer surrender option, no more waiting for an hour and no more cheap hatch escapes. There has been a few that still try to hide for the hatch but 10min later they get die when I abandon the match. Mostly survivors would rather come to me and get downed then they abandon. Suits me fine, 4k is 4k even if it's against 2 already downed bots.

By any chance - can killer MAKE survivor drop it? Franklins? Some bloodmoon game mechanic that I'm not aware of?

If it's cutting out that regularly that you get a long ban then yes the ban is valid. Some games you need a stable internet connection to play, this is one of those games. Without a ban anyone could just DC and say "aw internet cut out" leaving their team mates to do gens alone. This is why they are trying to clamp down on the go next issue to stop people doing it. Bottom line is, if your internet isn't fast enough or reliable enough then you really shouldn't be trying to play this particular game.

team play can be done in solo

Spoken like someone who's never played support in either a MOBA or a hero shooter. Even the simplest of teamplay tasks can be completely impossible to achieve if your teammates aren't cooperating.

You can't control your teammates. Thus the idea of 'just get better at teamplay' doesn't always work.

As for the 60/40 last they said that was what they were aiming for, yes they can change it without saying but are we to go be what they last said or if they changed their mind without saying? I think it makes more sense to go by what they last said they are aiming for which is 60/40.

But according to you, the announced nerfs to tunnelling, camping and slugging are going to bring down the killrate. If they are not planning any compensatory buffs, then wouldn't it make more sense to assume that they're fine with dropping the killrate?

I highly suspect any anti tunnel introduced would be similar, they wont remove it if they want the kill rate to remain.

So you're suggesting that they're going to basically toss out a couple months' worth of development time on a not-really solution?

Because if so, those gen speeds definitely aren't coming down. We'd basically be looking at a nothing-patch where nothing happens. Which doesn't seem all that logical to me.

No I said IF tunneling, camping and slugging was nerfed so that they are ineffective then it would bring the kill rate down and require buffs elsewhere to bring the kill rate back up. But I don't think they will make it ineffective due to the evidence thus far of the anti face face camp (does very little), the anti slug (doesn't do a thing to stop slugging, players can abandon but slugging remains), perks designed to counter these tactics being nerfed, previous attempts to stop tunneling was abused by survivors and never made it past the ptb. I don't think they will reduce gen speeds either. I think they should but they won't.

There has been many times they spent months on developing things to then find in the ptb that it just doesn't work so either never makes it into the game or undergoes major changes.

People that play the game and have fun no matter how many hooks or kills they get.

If it was for fun no matter how many hooks or kills people get then they really shouldn't have big BP rewards. They should have the event as a fun non profit mode, make it not worth playing competitively. Offering big BP rewards is aiming it at the competitive audience, even players that don't like the event might still play it just for the rewards.

I mean, they also deleted all gen rush perks and items.

This is a huge test for the community to see how well they can adapt to things they've literally asked for.

Three of the biggest requests have been:

    1. Gen rush perks and items are too much for killers to handle.
    2. Survivors need an extra objective.
    3. There's no incentive to not camp and tunnel every game.

And it's a test that at least some people are apparently failing.

Gen rush is deleted from the game. There's exactly one thing that increases gen speed, which requires carrying an item you have to find, move as slowly as possible to carry it, then get it to a specific gen.

So this is only gen rushing if people are just leaving survivors alone to slowly carry the item to a gen. If the killer leaves the hook (doesn't camp or tunnel), then they have not only interrupted the "gen rush" and pressure a survivor from working on a gen, but it also deletes the item charges to chase them.

So for all 3 of these complaints, the devs are realizing that those solutions aren't going to change behavior. They're being lied to by (some of) the community.

People will tunnel and camp even if gen rush perks are nerfed and deleted from the game. People will tunnel and camp even if survivors are given an extra objective or more gens. People will tunnel and camp even if spreading pressure rewards the killer with slower gens.

None of those 3 things are going to change people's behavior.

they haven't removed gen rush perks and items from the game they have made them basekit by increasing the speed of blood gens. They go so fast survivors don't need to use perk slots to speed up gens.

If the idea is move slowly with the blood fuel then bhvr has failed with that one because running with the fuel doesn't waste enough blood to make it worth going slow. It's faster to just fill up then run straight to the gen.

With the speed that gens fly in the event there is still incentive to tunnel and camp as the killer needs to secure a killer asap for pressure due to not being able to use regress perks for pressure. So the only thing they have actually added that people asked for was another objective but that objective was meant to slow things down so killers could have time to spread hooks, it wasn't supposed to speed things up making killers need to kill faster.

Survivors can counter tunneling with use of perks and team play.

But team play is not something the individual survivor can do, and even then, it won't stop a hard tunnel, only stretch it a bit.

The 60/40 guideline bhbr has been aiming for still stands unless they say otherwise.

Pretty sure they're permitted to change their minds without informing you.

If DS was so effective at curbing the tunneling, why revert it? Seems they nerfed it because killers were not killing as much as the Devs wanted due to not being able to tunnel as effectively.

DS got gutted as part of the meta shake-up, not for the KR boost. It's the same reason Ruin got almost the exact same nerf, which wouldn't make sense if they only wanted to boost KR.

team play can be done in solo, just have to observe the team mates Sus things out. Lots of solo teams have effectively countered tunneling. 1 good looper while others do gens, actually pretty simple to counter it. If others can do this then so can anyone if they try hard enough. I myself have looped a killer for enough time that 2 or 3 gens have been completed, killer camped, more gens were completed, I got saved at the end and escaped. Tunneling and camping countered in soloq.

As for the 60/40 last they said that was what they were aiming for, yes they can change it without saying but are we to go be what they last said or if they changed their mind without saying? I think it makes more sense to go by what they last said they are aiming for which is 60/40. With that in mind they have reached what they were aiming for. So assuming they want to maintain this then killers can't afford to take much of a hit. If and only if bhvr no longer wants 60/40 then yes killers can afford to take a hit to match whatever kill rate the Devs want. But there is no evidence to suggest bhvr want to change the kill rate. Even the abandon mechanic aimed to help survivors with being slugged doesn't stop killers from slugging and getting kills this way, because if killers couldn't slug as a tactic kill rate would drop too much. I highly suspect any anti tunnel introduced would be similar, they wont remove it if they want the kill rate to remain.

  • I think this event to see how killers handle with faster gen speeds/nerfed regres perks. Like I been saying for ages and with most events, when a killer loses their perks like in chaos event and now this even they lost regres perks... Killers will tunnel, camp and slug out of necessity

  • Once again, gen speeds increase (blood gens) and people find killers camp, tunnel and slug more. How do people not see a connection here? Faster gens pop, faster killers need to kill. High mobility killers will usually opt for slugging because it's faster and other killers will camp and tunnel to make sure they eliminate 1 asap.

  • Since the event every other match freezes just after the offering are revealed. I can play 1 match then the next will freeze and have to ctrl alt del to shut the game down and do another match. After that match it will freeze again. Can't get a killer match at all because everyone is going ghoul and driving survivors away, play survivor and get demolished by ghoul. Think the game is busted at the moment.

I wasn't getting easier opponents I was getting same people over and over.

You know that thing you said, about the killer complaints being evidence of a requirement to tunnel?

What you're saying here suggests that there's no survivor players left. Which would be indicative of much more severe issues that plague the survivor side.

Eventually I started tunneling which gave me kills I wouldn't have got otherwise but tunneling didn't get me to my mmr, I was already there.

Your MMR increases with every kill, so when you start tunnelling to secure extra kills, it will inflate your MMR.

Losing almost every match isn't fun.

    Now imagine playing survivor.

It's interesting that you say about being in an MMR bracket above my skill level tho, this would apply to survivors that lose against me too. The fact they can't counter tunneling because they won't put the time and effort into learning how means they shouldn't be in that MMR bracket. By your own argument.

Survivors can't counter tunnelling. The best they can do is slap on a small collection of perks designed to specifically deal with that specific thing and hope for the best.

    Well, that, or genrush.

But also, losing to someone once doesn't mean you don't belong in that MMR bracket. If they lose against you but beat four other killers at the same MMR, they actually belong in a higher MMR.

I'm not sure what your not getting with that stats, I'm not talking about game balance I'm talking about the balance bhvr wants and will aim for. If they are aiming for 60/40 yes it's balanced towards killer but saying killers could take a hit makes no sense because it would change the 60/40.

The 60/40 is not balance, it is nothing more than a guideline that BHVR used and they may not even be sticking to it anymore. Especially if the survivor pool is drying out, they will have to course correct, which can include dropping the 60/40.

60 is not the benchmark for balance, and it's certainly not the target for any discussion about whether it's possible to win with a certain playstyle.

For 9 years killers have tunneled their way to victory, I really don't see that changing.

That's not entirely true. DS was, at one point, a serious deterrent. It getting scuppered in 6.1 is what put tunnelling back on number 1. There is definitely a way to get killers to stop tunnelling, we'll just have to see whether what BHVR comes up with will do the trick or not.

Reason being it's a valid tactic

Whether it's 'valid' or not has little bearing on what the game needs when its playerbase is dying out. Survivors have been suffering through this issue for long enough, and at some point they're just done with it. If you're truly going up against the same people over and over again, well…

That kinda suggests there's no one else left.

You can try to 'valid tactic' your way onwards, but eventually there will be no one left to 'valid' against.

Survivors can counter tunneling with use of perks and team play. There's countless examples of people beating a killer that attempts to tunnel, but most refuse to dedicate their builds and team play to counter a common and effective strategy killers use. Seems like they are in the wrong MMR bracket maybe they got into higher MMR bracket by being in a swf then they play solo and they get steamrolled because they don't belong there.

The 60/40 guideline bhbr has been aiming for still stands unless they say otherwise. They could backtrack and make it 60/40 in survivors favour they could aim for whatever they want but currently it's 60/40 to killers and if they want to keep it that way they need to make sure the kill rate remains roughly as it is. It's one thing to nerf a particular killer or perk to tweak the kill rates slightly but making a drastic change like removing the efficacy of tunneling, camping, slugging would effect all killers. Nerf nurse and I can go blight. Nerf tunneling and regardless what killer I go it would have an effect.

If DS was so effective at curbing the tunneling, why revert it? Seems they nerfed it because killers were not killing as much as the Devs wanted due to not being able to tunnel as effectively.

By your logic casual killers shouldn't get 4k because they don't practice enough.

That's not at all what I'm saying!

You seem to be incapable of coming to any conclusion that isn't the extreme of one end.

You don't deserve to get NO 4Ks, and you don't deserve to get 4K every time.

Sometimes you'll win. Sometimes you'll lose. You won't be able to win every match, -especially- if you're not willing to put in the hours to get better at the game.

I'm a casual player and I'm regularly going against swf teams with coms and I struggle without tunneling.

If you are a casual player, why are you resorting to tunnelling to secure wins that you can't have otherwise? Because it sounds to me like you're way more competitive than you're willing to admit to.

If other killers experience the same difficulty as I do the kill rates will drop it's basic math.

Drop from what? Because, again, balance-wise, they can afford to take a drop. A steep one, too. Most games don't permit this kind of deviation from balance, just because BHVR has come out and openly stated they are balancing in killers' favour doesn't mean the game is balanced.

You have not proven, in any capacity, that killers would be underpowered without tunnelling, camping and slugging.

If other killers experience the same difficulty as I do the kill rates will drop it's basic math.

First off: We know they don't. There's killers out there that are better than you, that are having a much easier time.

Secondly: As mentioned before, there's a real possibility that tunnelling is kicking your MMR upwards, above your actual skill bracket, so when tunnelling gets axed, you may get a couple matches where you're forced to take an L that you would otherwise circumvent by tunnelling, but you will eventually go up against opponents of your skill level, at which point your killrate will stabilise again. We won't know the impact of tunnelling until it is gone.

Stop refering to pros when they are not the main player base.

You do the same, bud. Because when you're complaining about swiffers, again, as I said before, you are not thinking of the dummy squad that's having a casual friday evening chat with the bros while playing some DBD.

You are not taking the full picture of everything you're going up against, you are ONLY highlighting the players that are better than you, and making them out to be a problem.

That's why I said that YOU have done what you demand of me. You have beaten TONS of swiffers, you just don't know it, because the only ones you'll register as swiffers are the ones that actually bested you.

But even on top of that, remember: Swiffers still suck compared to killers! By BHVR's stats, 4-man swiffers are consistently losing. And if you want to point at the main playerbase, guess what? They lose MORE.

I'm not saying every time, sometimes tunneling doesn't work but sometimes is a necessity and without it I wouldn't get as many kills. I only started tunneling when I was losing match after match due to gens popping fast. I wasn't getting easier opponents I was getting same people over and over. Eventually I started tunneling which gave me kills I wouldn't have got otherwise but tunneling didn't get me to my mmr, I was already there. Even casual players want to win from time to time. Losing almost every match isn't fun.

It's interesting that you say about being in an MMR bracket above my skill level tho, this would apply to survivors that lose against me too. The fact they can't counter tunneling because they won't put the time and effort into learning how means they shouldn't be in that MMR bracket. By your own argument.

I'm not sure what your not getting with that stats, I'm not talking about game balance I'm talking about the balance bhvr wants and will aim for. If they are aiming for 60/40 yes it's balanced towards killer but saying killers could take a hit makes no sense because it would change the 60/40.

For 9 years killers have tunneled their way to victory, I really don't see that changing. Even now I'm doing pretty well kill wise with my tunneling, even with the gen speeds as they are and the swf with coms. You said I can't have my cake and eat it, but that's exactly what's happening, I'm playing casually and if I want to win I tunnel, camp, slug whatever I need to do.

Personally I think there is more chance of bhvr getting rid of the hatch than stopping tunneling. They pretty much already have got rid of the hatch with the abandon mechanic yet tunneling remains, why? Reason being it's a valid tactic and they know if they nerf it too much it will mess up their 60/40 they are aiming for.

I have been 3 and 4 man outted more times than I can count. I have played 100+ matches and lost 50-60+ of them. I’ve looked up guides and it doesn’t matter. This killer is waaaaaaay overrated. If this killer was OP and had no counterplay like everyone said I should be winning almost every single match. Nurse and Blight I can win 50 games in a row easily. This killer is NOT S tier. Low A MAYBE.

I can 4k with any killer easily except Houndmaster, Legion and Kaneki now. Getting downs is borderline impossible unless it’s a big map with few pallets. I do far better with Trapper than this killer honestly he’s just not that good.

Every chase is the same. Free injury followed by the survivor dropping the pallet, me breaking it, using my power to catch up and then the survivor pre drops the next pallet. Rinse and repeat till no gens are left and I have 3 hooks max, unless I get bad survivors.

He’s NOT better than Nurse. He’s NOT better than Blight. Hell; hes a better Legion and thats it. Good Gen control, ZERO lethality unless the map is big and few pallets. I do at least 100x better with Huntress who has a bottom 5 kill rate than him.

Honestly no idea how your not winning with the auto aim, the ability to essentially hit through walls, no cooldown, extreme mobility, jump pallets. The killer is like autopilot lol. It's fairly unanimous the killer is broken with survivors and killers saying it.

I think your the one not getting it, you basically implied that because hens can get 4k without tunneling it means anyone can which isn't the case.

    Why not?

Is Hens doing anything that you can't? Are you accusing him of cheating?

Again, also, you are aiming at the wrong point, because Hens had an additional restriction stacked on top of it AND hit an absurdly high consistency. You don't have to anywhere NEAR as good as Hens. No one is asking you to play without killer powers and you shouldn't be aiming for a 90% KR. You will have a -significantly- easier time winning without tunnelling than Hens did for this challenge.

But you do need to actually try. And that's the problem, because you have already thrown in the towel but aren't willing to accept the loss. If you're not willing to play to Hens' level, you can't expect Hens' results. It doesn't make these results unattainable, it just means you're unwilling to do so.

Which is fine, play casual if you want, but don't expect the entire game to be upended because you want to have your cake and eat it too.

You can't play casual and still expect to win consistently against competitive teams. If those survivors worked hard to get as good as they are, they deserve to win against someone who abjectly refuses to rise to that challenge.

Also you say killers are over performing but the latest kill rate is 60/40 overall which is exactly what the Devs were aiming for so they are not over performing at all.

Except BHVR's intent is not the balance standard. Just because BHVR have a goal to have killers overperform, doesn't mean the killers aren't overperforming when they meet that standard. Killers win significantly more than they lose, and they certainly win more than survivors do. So for the sake of balance, they can take a hit.

again with the hens lol yes he is doing something many people can't do which is play the game as often as he does. By your logic casual killers shouldn't get 4k because they don't practice enough. It's ridiculous. I'm a casual player and I'm regularly going against swf teams with coms and I struggle without tunneling. If tunneling was nerfed so it wasn't effective I wouldn't be able to get the amount of kills I get, I know I tried and no I won't dedicate my life to being a pro player. If other killers experience the same difficulty as I do the kill rates will drop it's basic math. The kill rate will no longer be 60/40 as the Devs want. What do you think the Devs will do then? Tell killers to get as good as hens to win? No, they will nerf survivors or buff killers to get the kill rate they want. Stop refering to pros when they are not the main player base.

  • @Firellius said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3906953#Comment_3906953

    You're not getting it.

The average killer isn't on that skill level

Firstly, they don't need to be. Hens and cohorts played without ANY killer powers. That is a self-imposed restriction that doesn't exist in the game, which means everyone else is going to have a -much- easier time replicating his result.

Secondly, the average killer also isn't at his MMR rank, so they're going to get easier matches to begin with, provided MMR is working correctly.

Thirdly, you can't claim that killers can't win without tunnelling if you dismiss the ability to do so with such high extra stipulations (No powers, and extreme consistency) as 'too difficult', because at that point, the problem isn't the game balance. The problem is that you're not doing your best. You COULD learn to play like Hens. You opting not to is not a reason to upend the game's balance.

It doesn't sound like YOU can.

I have. So have you. So has anyone who's played killer for any amount of time.

And I know this is going to confuse you, so let me clarify.

What you are thinking of with a 'swf' is not just up to four survivors playing together. You are thinking Team Eternal. You are thinking heavily coordinated swiffers that are armed to the teeth with syringes and BNPs.

You are thinking of the Henses of the survivor side, in short.

The reality is much different, because a huge chunk of swiffers that you've beaten, you probably didn't recognise as swiffers, because they don't play to that level. Most of the swiffers you go up against aren't doing call-outs, they're discussing the latest Nintendo Direct or complaining about politics.

Ironically, you're dismissing Hens, while trying to get me to prove that any killer of any skill level can beat the equivalent.

Just as a reminder, by official stats, the actual overall escape rate of 4-man swiffers is 43%. Isolated to high MMR, it's 48.3%. So this allegedly overpowered thing that is only held in check by tunnelling, according to you?

Doesn't win most of the time. Which means that a ton of killers have done exactly what you're asking for.

And before you go 'well they can only do so because of tunnelling', you have to remember that these high MMR swiffers would probably know this too, and they can coordinate against it. STB, DS, OTR, they can stack a lot of deterrents for tunneling, which would drastically limit its impact. In other words, specifically in the high MMR regions, tunnelling -should- be affecting the winrates less.

You offer no valid argument that counters my suggestion that nerfing tunneling would effect kill rates.

I don't need to. Killers are overperforming. Even if they took a cut to their killrates, that doesn't mean they are in hot water.

Besides, if MMR works as it should, it'd resolve itself in short order anyway. Once the crutch gets kicked out, some killers might experience a downturn where they can't cheese out a win anymore, but they'll eventually sort back to the level they're supposed to be at.

As opposed to killers that aren't as good as Hens and balk at the suggestion of getting to that level, still coming up with the expectation to beat anything that is put across from them.

I think your the one not getting it, you basically implied that because hens can get 4k without tunneling it means anyone can which isn't the case.

It's a well known fact the MMR is broken, I'm not on the same level as someone like hens but I'm still getting 3 or 4 man swf very regularly in my matches which are very coordinated and play together often which is not easy to beat at all.

Yes I could learn to play like hens and learn to get 4k without the need to tunnel but people shouldn't have to play the game for a living to get 4k. I could spend every waking moment on the game and learn to be the best in the world to get 4k without tunneling but that's a ridiculous expectation. Your only argument is that pro killers can do it therefore killers don't need to tunnel.

Some survivors have beaten the ghoul does that mean that killer is not OP? It can be done if people practice long enough but the killer requires a ridiculous amount of skill to beat.

Also you say killers are over performing but the latest kill rate is 60/40 overall which is exactly what the Devs were aiming for so they are not over performing at all.

they get the choice to abandon… which is entirely in the Survivors control. Do people seriously not see the difference here? Survivor losing/lost the match, just get downed and then DC. Killer lost/losing the match, have to force survivors out at exit gate while watching them tbag, or hide in a corner until the last second of the endgame timer.

Or to give another example. a SWF that absolutely hates some specific killer. They see this killer, and all run to Shack or main or where-ever and all get downed, then DC. Previously, a killer whos feeling mean could have just bled them out to be toxic, but now this issue is solved, which is great. Now imagine there's a Killer who absolutely doesn't want to play against a certain map, or some other equally stupid reason to not want to play a match. What can they do? Hide in a corner, AFK, until the survivors decide to do every gen and leave. Both of these scenarios are equally invalid imo, but one side has the easy way out and the other doesn't.

But the killer can decide to slug all of them. If the killer leaves 1 standing the survivors can't just abandon. So it's actually in the killers control not the survivors.

What I do is leave 2 alive and protect the gens because there is no chance 2 survivors are doing all gens. I milk them for BP then after 10min I abandon which sacrifices both survivors so they don't go next, I get bp and they don't get hatch

These forums aren't that populated, bud, and there's not that many people spouting the same story. Even among fervent proponents of further killer buffs, there's a few who will begrudgingly (or sometimes even boastfully) admit that their KR without tunnelling is -fine-.

And yeah, you can get a 4K with every killer without tunnelling. Because not every match will be against perfect survivor teams. Hens and his cohorts played a series of matches where they didn't tunnel, camp, slug, or use ANY killer power, and they averaged around 90% KR, and they're not cheaters. Anything they can do, you can too, theoretically.

You have to remember that players are subject to heavy bias. Killer players that tunnel to grab extra wins will push their MMR above where they should be, based on their mechanical and tactical skill. Additionally, a lot of killer players hold up tunnelling victories as evidence that they 'needed' to tunnel, but they have no idea how the game would've gone if they hadn't tunnelled, making it a self-fulfilling prophecy.

So when you actually look at the statistics, they all favour killers. Higher WR, over 50% KR, extremely long winstreaks, by basically every metric, killers are doing better than survivors.

A couple of forum killers saying 'I -feel- like I need more buffs' doesn't really mean much by comparison.

Your seriously using hens as a comparison? The average killer isn't on that skill level so the average killer does need to tunnel. I know very high skilled players don't need to tunnel, I asked if YOU can get 4k against swf with every killer without tunneling. I didn't ask if something was like hens can do it. It doesn't sound like YOU can. Maybe show me how it's done yourself?

The past several months people have been complaining about tunneling, slugging and camping. That's here and other platforms such as Reddit, this clearly shows how regular killers use these tactics which would explain the high kill rate. You offer no valid argument that counters my suggestion that nerfing tunneling would effect kill rates.

All maps should be balanced for both killer and survivors otherwise you get maps such as Haddonfield or Eyrie of Crows. Get rid of these one sided garbage maps.

Your forgetting autohaven, by far the most survivor sided map. Some would argue it's not survivor sided but there is a reason why 90% of my matches people are bringing azarovs offering and even DC in loading screen if I bring sac ward. So many wouldn't go through that effort to play on 1 map for no reason

  • With so many survivor sided maps I think a few killer sided should be left as they are

What, seven out of how many killer players say they -need- to tunnel, and you take that as 'evidence'?

There's also plenty of killer players that say that tunnelling is not required, so that counters that.

Not sure where you got 7 from but I have seen a lot more than 7 killers on these forums alone say they often feel they need to tunnel, especially with specific low tier killers. You might not be seeing what I have been seeing but I can tell you I have seen a lot more killers say they need to tunnel than those that have said they they don't need to tunnel.

Like I said my experience is also a factor, can you honestly say you get 4k with every killer and not tunnel? I know I can't lol therefore tunneling is needed and I know I can't be the only one. If you can get 4k v swf on every killer without tunneling then please show me how it's done.

There is nothing to indicate that this is actually the case. This is a presumption that's spread like wildfire to the point where it's commonly accepted, without any evidence to back it up.

I think the amount of killers that have said they feel they need to tunnel shows more evidence that demonstrates it is the case than there is evidence to show it's not the case. My own experience is also an indicator, if I feel I need to tunnel due to gen speeds then I doubt I'm the only one.

This is amazing news for the next killer adept that comes out. I had a game of ghoul where the last two survivors were in permastealth mode and I thought that I wouldn't be able to get adept if I abandoned.

I haven't tested it yet but I read somewhere that someone tried it and it worked. I will probably test it later to make sure

  • Ye need 4k. You can achieve this if killer abandons the match after 10min of no gens being completed. Abandon will sacrifice all remaining survivors so it counts as kills and apparently counts towards adepts too.

  • Since the update I haven't needed to slug for the 4k as if there are 2 remaining and still gens left to complete its rare they are able to complete the gens with just 2 left. 10min of no gens completed and I get to use abandon to auto sacrifice both survivors at the same time so I haven't needed to slug for the 4k

I don't think this is a good idea. I'll be one of the early ones to say the gap between SWF and solo is a serious problem and coms provide tons of benefits. But i think it should be the opposite of what you are saying.

    There should be 2 modes:

    • Casual match
      • Can only queue with 1 other person
      • Every match guarantees either 4 solos or 1 pair and 2 solos
      • MMR can still be used for matching
      • Game is balanced around lack of communication through like:
        • Perks can be tuned differently
        • Gen times are different
        • Anti-tunnel/anti-camp measures are different
        • More pallets
        • Basekit perks like kindred.
        • Etc.
    • Ranked Match
      • Can only queue with 3 other survivors and killer
      • Offers a bonus incentive for getting a high rank
      • Actually show your rank and MMR
      • Game is balanced around this style of gameplay through things like:
        • Static only maps that are always the same layout
        • Slower gens
        • Perk bans
        • Maybe survivors move slower even.
        • Etc.

They can tune each mode around a 50% win rate and can balance killers and survivors differently based on the mode.

The main issue with this is that in order to play ranked matches, players NEED to play with others. People who don't have others to play with miss out on a whole section of the game.

Solo players can't always team up with others but teams can split up and play solo if they wish. if I NEEDED friends to be able to play ranked I would never play it out of principle.

This essentially translates to basekitting a bunch of extremely popular and powerful perks.

Killers are doing more than fine, they do not need a colossal buff on top of where they are now.

Bare in mind the amount of killers that are doing fine now due to tunneling and slugging and camping. If these tactics ever got nerfed enough for them to be ineffective killers wouldn't be fine at all. I've said many time I never used to tunnel, but since gens pop so fast I often feel I need to tunnel asap. Personally I think it would be healthy to nerf tunneling, camping and slugging while nerfing the gen speeds. Killers play healthier which makes the game more fun for survivors, won't need to run regress perks so gives diversity with builds.
