Tunneling is part of the game like or not. It might not be according to "survivor rulebook" but not everyone plays the game according to how survivors want them to play. There are counters to it, just have to use the right perks and if it's happening as often as you say it is then you should know to go into the match equipped and prepared for it.

Ive never understood this "you paid for it, you can do whatever you want!"
If I buy a ticket to go to the movies, doesnt mean I can talk loudly and be a disturbance to everyone else.
I think your misunderstanding the whole point. It's not "do what you whatever you want" it's so whatever you want in line with the t&c of usage. The movies have policies of no talking, no phones ect. Buying a ticket you agree to that. Buying dbd you agree to follow their rules. So yes you can do whatever you want as long it's in line with the rules of the establishment or provider.

I love the "rulebook" thing... It baffles me when people cry about my play style. I follow BHVR rules, not random players rules. I expect others to do the same. If people don't like it then cry to BHVR not the players that are simply playing the game. "But your playstyle makes it unfun for us"... Um ok I thought I was playing the game for my entertainment, my enjoyment. I wasn't aware I had sole responsibility of everyone else's fun even if it's at the expense of my own fun.

Cause Bad killers cant 4k on hooks and cry about SWFs.
It looks more like killers can't get 4k and get 12 hooks so they adapt and find a work around. This results in bad survivors being the ones crying about being slugged. I see very little tears from killers, why cry when they can slug?
-
I've been playing survivor farming the pumpkins lol. BP can really stack up doing them. Again, my mentality playing survivor is the same in this mode as it is in any mode... Probably not going to survive, teammates will probably be potatoes and not help or simply rat me out soooo just get as many points as I can by doing whatever I can, gens, saves, chases, pumpkins. Seems way more fun that way than going in with the "I want to win" mindset. If you want to win, go killer 🤷♂️ killer role isn't exclusive to killer mains.

Why does everybody play so stupid? Killers rarely play the objective if they're not bots. Survivors leave the moment they get down or just stand at hooks or my personal favorite try to pallet the killer immediately after grabbing you. Nobody heals themselves anymore and I my lord people LEARN HOW TO USE A FLASHLIGHT no you cannot blind a killer from behind believe it or not they don't have eyes in the back of their head. No you cannot blind a killer from the sid. Yes the beam has to actually hit the killer. My lord people why are you all so bad/dumb
🤣 Calling everyone stupid when the title is "why the hell are all everybody stupid now?" Really?

Ye that's why I don't go into soloq with the mindset of winning. I don't enjoy survivor at all, I'm good being a killer main. But when I do soloq I'm doing it for the challenges or tome. Some would say I'm part of the problem but tbh too many times my own team mates don't help or even flat out rat me out to the killer so I go into a match to do what I need to do, if that means not helping others then so be it. I play guilt free knowing there is a high chance my team wouldn't have helped me so they are on their own.

this happens more often than not. We lost the game and it's down to 2 survivors. The killer wants a 4K and doesn't kill the second last survivor. I'm hiding and then the killer picks up the downed survivor. Then they go help the killer find me.
This is pretty much against the rules and I know the report system doesn't do anything.
Its sort of a joke and I dont think I'll be playing (you just lost a paying customer) this game anymore. There's no punishment to trolling or giving up so thats why its so rampant. Sorry but your game risks seeing its playerbase leave due to poisonous trolls
Maybe don't hide and just do the gens? Avoiding gems is a reportable offence

Hex totems give 1500 pb if cleansed... We all know killers will do what they need to do to get the 4k (myself included). so instead of playing survivor with the wario style "ima gunna win" mindset, I go to do challenges and some pb with totems, doing gens, chases or whatever. Neglect the hex totems and likelihood of surviving long enough to get more than 10k pb is very slim in soloq. It's not like solo players can rely on the team to save them from the hook lol
-
Im a killer main but even I think flashbang is a non issue due to lightborn being an option.
Wglf is a little op to be honest, hook someone they get a number of hook related bonuses like endurance and there is the issue of body blocking, sabotage squads pallet saves ect... Next option is to slug but wglf makes that very difficult. That's the lose lose situation imo, if survivors make it impossible to hook them it's a lose for the killer. If the killer slugs them wglf makes it a lose situation for the killer. Camping and tunneling works tho, wglf isn't that effective when there are less people in the match, especially with noed (because survivors don't seem to bother with totems)

The issue is that only benefits the killer. I don’t agree with infinite unbreakable at all but this also is not a fair option. Because then killers will just 4 man slug everyone knowing the survivors will force bleed out to get out of the match, killer gets their 4K. That takes zero effort, skill and artificially inflates MMR and kill rates
Yes it should benefit the killer, no different to if a killer hooks 4 players. If a killer can down all 4 how can that take 0 effort? They still have to go through the rigmarole of loops to hit the players twice each to down them. If they can achieve that they have worked for it, no different to hooking them. If everyone is on 2nd stage hook it auto sacrifice everyone it doesn't let people get unhooked for free it doesn't prolong the waiting with skill checks. Same should happen when slugged, after a certain time if all 4 (or all remaining survivors are slugged) then it should auto bleed them out. But the issue with that is many survivors want it to change in their favour rather than for the health of the game, they want yet another chance to win when they have clearly lost the match.

You really didn't have to spell out you're a tunneler. It was obvious from your previous post. Though it's interesting you consider the part with the most interaction between the players to be the boring one. I wonder if you would still find this fun if gamers actually learned the macro side of this game and left people hanging for almost the entire hookstage duration.
Sometimes they do leave them hanging until last min then save them, it's wise to do that and work on gens. I still enjoy those matches and when all gens are done noed kicks in. I usually get 3/4k and have fun so it's all good for me 😁

I try to. I don't run gen slowdown (aside from Grim Embrace) on killer cause it's not fun, and I run Dramaturgy+Scene Partner on survivor because they're goofy as hell. I just want fun chases against people that don't feel like they got lost on their way to a Scrim.
It can be difficult when 2 sides have different versions of fun. Me personally, don't enjoy looping or being looped but many people do it because they find it fun. So in that instance I do what I can go counter loops, go Pyramid head, tunnel the looper out asap whatever it takes to get my fun but I still need to go through the boring rigmarole of loops as a killer to get the first down.
-
@Feetman said:
Every match I queue into, either as a Killer or as a Survivor, at least one person brings an offering to a map that's super strong for their side or for the specific build they have.
It's not fun. Just saying "Bring the ward" doesn't solve anything. It limits the maps that I get to see and play on substantially, and makes the game incredibly boring. Killer players who see a map offering are more likely to go super sweaty tryhard to "punish" survivor teams for bringing map offerings, meanwhile survivor teams that see map offerings do the same because why ######### around when clearly the Killer is trying to optimize the fun out of the game.
This has been an issue for years, that several people have complained about extensively and yet it's continuously ignored. I understand that there are maybe more game breaking or overtly broken perks/addons/powers/etc but this would be so simple and the removal of the Cypress Mori is I think the perfect way to handle it. Give everybody BP and remove the offerings. If people get mad, literally who cares? They'll come back after a week like they always ######### do because realistically all it does is help keep the playing field level.
Remove map offerings, give people BP in return, and let people actually see more than 8 maps out of the 24+ that there are.
Trying to optimise the fun out of the game? I'd say trying to make the game fun by optimising. Might not be fun for you but it is fun for others. My advice is find your own fun in the game instead of relying on others to make it fun for you by playing a certain way or bringing certain offerings or perks.

Killers are way to overpowered it's no fun to play survivor anymore, because all the killers play exactly the same as though they never got buffed, we would like to get more than 11k blood points per trail because of killers who end up getting blood points for playing sweaty.
Maybe your playing survivor wrong? You can get lots of BP by doing totems and doing challenges. you don't have to escape to get good amount of BP. I'm a killer main, but when I play survivor I go into the match with the mindset of "probably not going to survive but will see what I can get out of it" makes being survivor way more fun than going into a match think "I'm going to win".
As for killers playing exactly the same... It's no different than survivors generally play exactly the same from day 1, loop loop loop. That's not fun for me as a killer or survivor but it's part of the game and I accept that I either need to counter it or deal with it. Doesn't mean survivors should be nerfed... Although tbh gens fly pretty fast so I wouldn't mind that being nerfed but there are perks and frowned upon tactics to get me through

it's not a "false equivalency[sic]" it's literally just how boring I personally find the hook-camping playstyle, from the perspective of the killer; i would genuinely rather watch paint dry as i would find it more productive and as fun.
the devs have frequently described the game as a horror-themed tag game, so, sorry you don't enjoy the horror-themed tag part of the horror-themed tag game i guess?
I don't mind the tag aspect, I don't like the merry go round scooby doo "chase"...it's not fun for me, it's boring and repetitive. If people took the chase around the map then fine fine but they don't. They find a pallet and loop it until they can't loop anymore then repeat on the next pallet. But I endure it to hook the survivor, when I do I make sure to guard them or tunnel them out asap to reduce the boring looping aspect as much as possible... I turn something boring and make it fun for me.

i play killer to chase survivors not to stare at them. if i wanted to play like you're defending i would follow around an interior designer and watch paint dry instead
that way i can do the same thing (stare for prolonged periods at something that isn't moving) be useful to someone and tell them when it's time to apply a new coat instead of making 4 people's day more boring (3 because they're forced to just do gens and not do alturism or chases or side objectives, 1 because they're forced to just run away from you and not do gens or alturism or side objectives)
if you wanna pay for a game to play in the most mathematically boring way possible go ahead be my guest
Watching paint dry is a false equivalency lol maybe a security guard or prison guard is more apt? The killer has to make sure there are no survivors going for the save and if they do then chase them off to try keep the survivor hooked. so it's not simply watching mindlessly like you say. To that point yes I do find guarding a hooked survivor fun, making sure they are not freed and if they are then making sure I catch them asap eliminate them and win the match. If my choice is to guard a hook survivor or go in circles with another survivor looping endlessly then I pick guarding the survivor (I already endured the boring bit of going through the loops to down the survivor so I'm going to get my worth out of it and keep them hooked if I can)
Each to their own but fun is subjective, personally I find playing the game my way is fun for me...even more fun when salty survivors complain about it as if it's my responsibility to make the game fun for them at the expense of my own fun.

if you think staring at something that is hanging 16 meters away from you for about a minute is fun go to the lourve and visit the mona lisa instead of playing a multiplayer video game and flat out denying one player 75% of the gameplay mechanics
The objective of the killer is to disable the survivors and remove them from the match to prevent them doing gens and escaping. If you don't like being disabled or making sure the survivors are eliminated then dbd isn't for you. That's the game you choose to play

- (find the last two survivors) — Then why is BBQ & Chili and Lethal Pursuer 3rd & 4th most used killer perks (according to nightlight.gg/perks) ? Fun bonus, Nowhere to Hide is 6th.
- (Gens pop too fast) — There is definitely a sense of urgency, as there should be (on both sides). This is especially true early in the match, as this is the only time all four survivors can work on a gen before the killer arrives. Personally i don't have any problems with gen regression perks, the only real downside is having to watch a bar fill for even longer.
Nowhere to hide is 6th because apart from the other 2 aura perks there are 3 regress perks. Makes sense as regress perks take priority to get to the point of having 2 survivors left. If gens didn't fly so fast there would probably be less reliant on the top regress perks which would put no where to hide much higher than 6th. It will be interesting to see the top 10 in a couple of weeks. The Mori update will probably increase the need to find the last 2 survivors.

God this game is so stale with nothing but aura reading and pain rez. Every game is the same rarely does anyone use anything different.
I've said it before and will say it again, if aura reading and pain Res are being over used its likely due to...
1.aura reading needed to find the last 2 survivors that decide to hide untill server time ends while not doing gens (in the hope to get the hatch)
2. Pain res needed because how fast gens fly. Gens get completed too fast, killers need to be able to find survivors, chase them and down them. By the time a killer has found and downed 1 survivor a gen or 2 pops.
Killers are just trying to adapt to nerfs on their end and buffs on the survivor end by using perks as aids which is what perks are for. They will generally use perks that's needed more...aura reading and regression perks.

You're misunderstanding the point I'm making entirely, it's ignorant, taking away skill expression from players in the form of perks for a build is stupid and nonsensical, being forced to run unbreakable is not fun.
On top of that, flip flop, power struggle And boil over are currently 3 useless perks because of rampant slugging, making 3 perks useless because of something that we can't do anything against and being forced to use 1 perk is a bandaid fix that needs to be addressed.
Perks are part of the game, they are there to aid the killer, to aid the survivor. Tactical choice of perks to counter likely strategies used by the opponent is part of the skill of the playing the game. Go into a match unprepared and it will be tough. Like I said, flashlights, flash bangs no base kit counter, no choice to take being blinded after every pallet break, every vault, every pick up attempt in an open area. No basekit for countering gen rushing, forced to use regress perks.
If basekit unbreakable is implementated to counter slugging then killers should get basekit counter to flashlight and regres basekit. Based on your explanation, killers shouldn't be forced to run perks as a counter to something they can't do anything against.
Another basekit counter to being slugged is your team. It is 4 v 1 game after all so the 4 should work together... If they don't then that's down to the team, killers shouldn't be punished by making it harder for them because the team can't work together.
-
@malith said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3815525#Comment_3815525
No the issue with slugging is being forced to sit there with no end in sight cause the killer is off gallivanting, just going for a hit before a pick up to stop the save is fine.
So unbreakable solves that issue, while the killer is galavanting survivors can pick themselves up. I played a match and slugged all 4 survivors because they were all close together. While I was hooking 1 another survivor recovered from dying state, healed the other 2 survivors, ran off and all healed themselves. It is a counter, just have to use it.

Look away, kiss a wall, basskit is looking around and chasing off also.
If that's basekit then basekit to counter slugging is don't get caught. In an open map kissing the wall isn't an option because it's all open. Chasing people off means leaving the survivor in the ground (slugging) which is what survivors find boring and when breaking pallets or vaulting there is no option to look away. Just have to eat the flashlight every time. Like I said no real basekit to counter it, there is only lightborn. So if killers have to use lightborn to counter something that can't be countered otherwise then survivors can bring unbreakable as for as I'm concerned
-
@malith said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3815393#Comment_3815393
That was out of necessity due to the 4k mori system.
This one is a little different to that but still promotes the slug to get the 4k with a final mori at the end. There needs to be something in place to stop slugging.
But there already is something in place, unbreakable perk... Killers have to use up a perk slot to counter the constant flashlight and flash bangs (no real basekit counter for them unless the killer is faceing the wall, which in many maps isn't an option). With the speed that gens fly killers are pretty much forced to use at least one regres perk to stand a chance. I don't see an issue with survivors having to use up a perk slot to counter slugging with unbreakable. They still have 3 other slots to aid them in chases so they don't get downed to begin with which would prevent being slugged.
-
@malith said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3815292#Comment_3815292
No, not at all, what I mean is currently in the killers basekit they have more means than necessary to slug while survivors basically only have Unbreakable which you have to give up a perk slot for when killers don't have to give up anything to slug, there should definitely be something in the basekit for survivors to be able to get themselves up in some way, whether it puts you in deep wounds after or something from the sheer pain you caused yourself getting up or what I don't know, but there should be some sort of countermeasure in place to stop it from being such common ground.
There was a base kit counter trial years ago, survivors could get up from dying state and it was abused so much it was removed. Slugging is no different than being hooked, both have a timer except slugs have more time. There is no basekit to get off the hook unless face camped so why is there so much talk about base kit counter to slugging where survivors can get back up willy nilly. Yes it's boring being slugged but so is being on the hook boring, can't even move on the hook. If anything slug timer should be reduced to faster bleed out if the 4min is too long for survivors. Certainly shouldn't be base kit counter.
-
Surly by now people can see that slugging is just part of the game and not "toxic" like most survivors make out. I think it's clear the Devs decision to bring in the mori system shows that slugging isn't going anywhere. Some might say it's "unhealthy" but clearly is part of the game so hopefully people will start acknowledging it for what it is... Just a playstyle/tactic and stop blaming killers for doing it accusing them of being toxic.

This. Slugging is a choice. If slugging is your only avenue to winning most of your games, you need to let someone tutor you on how to play killer.
If the killer is using slugging to get the win then it seems the survivors are the ones that need the tutor to learn to counter it. Have said it before and will say it again, this mindset of "get good" when the killer is already getting the wins makes no sense. If the killer was losing the matches then yes they need to improve but if they win then why do they need to improve?

Teabagging is also not bannable.
I know I didn't claim it was nor should it be bannable, as far as I'm concerned if survivors t bag then killers will do the equivalent or worse such as W S back and forth for 4min or ramp up the slugging tunneling tactics that survivors hate so much. Survivors shouldn't complain about "toxic" playstyles of killers when they openly provoke by t bagging and gloating in the manner they do, they are just asking to be tunneled out or bled out.

Simply end the game in the same way when all other survivors escape or are hooked, by instant bleed-out.
These discussions always become an excuse to ask for a second chance that you don't deserve. If everyone is on the floor, you have already lost. If someone is still stading, that's just the killer creating pressure and doesn't deserve to be punished for it.
I agree 100% there shouldn't be a second chance basekit for slugs however if everyone is on the floor it doesn't mean they have lost. There has been times that a survivor has brought the right perks that enabled them to get up and they healed the rest. There is already a counter to slugging through perks imo so if survivors don't like the bleed out they can use the perks

this is the first part of the recording, and please show me how I BM the killer, I don't care about his previous matches I didn't BM im a different person then the survivors that act toxic but he decided to do this to me, this is not the full match because I didn't expect this happened to me so I don't record every game, I wanted to go next becese someone rage quit withen the 1st min of the game but my teamemate saved me so I played normaly after, I even finish a gen and picked my down teammate multiple times and try to progress the game normally.
I see no real reason for it, it's interesting that the killer didn't do that to the other player. Could be the killer remembered you from another match? As others have said, could be that the killer was on a losing streak constantly being t bagged, so lashed out. But it doesn't explain why he singled you out over the other player.

Lol be honest. 99% of the time when this happens to me, it's because I had the audacity to take the killer on a long chase and run tiles correctly. And I'm not one to tbag or emote.
That maybe true but if the killer repeatedly gets t bagged by too many survivors then all survivors get tarred with the same brush, and the killer lashes out and does it back to every survivor. When I first started playing I was awful at the game and couldn't get any kills, every match I was getting t bagged and abused post match with "get good" and "noob killer".... Eventually I got better and I learnt to expect that if I lost I would most likely have been t bagged. I don't do what that killer does but I can see why he might be lashing out.
-
200 😊
-
I rather enjoy the salty tears of survivors post match, they can t bag throughout but when I get the last laugh at the end it gives me a sense of justice that can only be served with my own hand
-
Makes me wonder what the survivor did that match, if that survor was goading the killer throughout, looping, dropping pallets and t baging the killer at every opportunity then is there any wonder that the killer does the same? So many drop a pallet and t bag immediately after, and t bag at the gates, t bag at the hatch even. Every opportunity it's a t bag. At some point the killer will do it back.
-
For me as killer as I'm sure it is for many, the order of events that will take place will be.
- Play fair (survivor handbook)...if that way doesn't work ie can't get kills or it's boring progress to step 2.
- Play dirty.... If playing dirty results in low kills and equally unfun gameplay for the killer progress to step 3
- Simply don't play the game mode
So time will tell how it will pan out but if it's overly survivor sided then it won't be good as it will result in either toxic gameplay by killers or it will have very very long q times from killers not wanting to play due to the imbalance and survivors not wanting to play due to "toxic" plays by killers.

I understand this, but just now I got booted out again and my penalty is now a whopping 6 hours (my last was half an hour, and that was 12+ hours ago). I restarted and it seems they're being serious. Is this fr? I understand DC'ing under any context especially as killer is a nuisance but this is ridiculous
You know it disconnects every so often yet you still risk playing a PvP online game? I had the same issue a while back but I just stopped playing PvP because PvP requires a fast and reliable connection. It was very annoying when I'm about to win then my connection cuts out for like 20 seconds then reconnects and I find the game ended. Doesn't sound like your connection is particularly reliable so I would avoid playing PvP games for your sake and for others sake.

I had fun as both survivor and killer in the last 2 v 8... I will give it a go but if flashlights becomes an issue I just wont bother playing it. Better off spending my time in a 30min q in regular mode than spend my time being blinded. And I thought the point of no hooks was to prevent survivors body blocking in mass. It's annoying when 2/3 survivors body block in regular mode I can't imagine what it would be like to be in that situation with 6 or 7 survivors body blocking unless all survivors start off injured or something...again I will try it but the second it becomes an issue I just won't play it as survivor or killer
-
Gens already pop pretty quick, so quick that many people are forced to use regress perks or tunnel/slug (no time to spread the hooks). Removing bloodlust would make it even harder to catch people which would further increase the need for regress and further push the tunneling/slugging thing that the survivors seem to hate. At some point survivors should pick a lane, they either don't mind the tunneling play style or they want it to change. If they want it to change then it's probably best to not give killers any more reason to than they already do. If they don't want it to change then what's all the crying been about when killers use these tactics?
Also many killers don't like going in a circle scooby doo style, it's not fun, it's highly repetitive and requires very little skill (I know survivors like to think it's skillful but it's really not, I know how easy it is and how little skill is involved I done it for 2 years)

So, one of these days I had a survivor match that ended with three escapes. We were all three gathered in the exit area, quickly healed for BP and benevolent points and then immediatly left… well, at least two of us did.
So I checked how many bloodpoints I earned, cool. Checked my emblems, got a pip, nice. Then I really wanted to check what build the killer was playing, and… it was hidden, what the hell? Wasn't the match already over?
So I clicked. The spectate button to see what was going on, and… guess what, the last survivor, who was just beside us on the edge of the exit when two of us ran outside, actually had gone to the opposite direction and was vaulting the nearest pallet repeatedly right in front of the exit gates.
*Sigh*. Of course.
She still insisted on that for some time and then finally got tired of it and went to the exit gates. So I could finally see the killer's build.
A similar thing happened just yesterday. I was the third survivor to die in a match of Chaos Shuffle, but was really curious to see if the killer had aura reading perks, because of how she had found me a few times. So I spectated the last survivor and she immediatly found the hatch. "Great", I thought. Now I can see the kiler's perks and then immediatly go for another match…
*Survivor stands on the hatch*
"Oh no, don't tell me that…"
*Survivor starts T-bagging the hatch while looking around to see if the killer is coming*
"Oh, come on, just leave!"
*The killer isn't coming, so she runs to a nearby pallet, drops it to make noise and goes back to the hatch. After a few seconds, the killer finally comes, but only when she is near the survivor finally jumps out and escapes*
That probably didn't even annoy the killer because she had already won the match anyway. But there are people who actually like to se the opposing side's builds after a match, specially on chaos shuffle where the perks are really unpredictable. All of this waiting at the exit wastes everyone's time, not just the killer's.
Ye but how else would survivors get their kicks? Just escape? It's all good, but they can't complain when killer does the same thing (slugs for the hell of it then hooks)

Lots of people complain about camping and how boring it is. It feels like all the time.
Slugging complaints get mixed together with slugging for bleed outs, slugging for the 4k, and slugging as a tactical maneuver. Each of those have their own complaints and reasons but it seems like killer mains group of them together.
Fair enough, I still think it's part of the game, the game that people choose to play. Killers role is to kill, in order to do that the survivor gets incapacitated on a hook (or ground). That's what survivors are getting into when they play the game and it seems like they don't like it when that happens. Otherwise it would be 2 hits and dead.

I expect killer players to learn how to play their character properly. Why should bad players be compensated with buffs?
So when they learn to play that character overly well survivors can complain they are too strong and then cry for nerfs to the killer. Skull merchant for example, skull merchant mains knew how to play that character properly and look what happened.
Besides playing the character "properly" is very subjective. What is properly? To me properly is using the characters powers and knowing the strength and weaknesses of that particular killer. There are many ways to play the game so I'm not sure what playing a character properly is.

Its interesting that most survivors don't mind waiting an extra 10 seconds on hook where they literally can't do anything but they have an issue with being slugged where they can crawl around at least.Well, that's because its not true.
No one likes sitting on the hook, whether that is 60 or 70 seconds. Increasing the hook timer was meant to make it less advantageous for killers to proxy camp, thus making it more likely for them to move away, thus making it more likely for a survivor to get the rescue and the hooked survivor to get back in the game.
I've never seen any survivor say, or BHVR's reasoning being, that the increase timer was designed so people could actually spend more time on the hook.
More often than not the slug rarely bleeds out because the killer slugs everyone then goes round hooking them. It's not a great defense of how slugging currently works to argue: well its so likely the killer is going to win anyway that he'll have plenty of timer to get to the survivor.
So why is it so many complaints about slugging but no where near as many complaints about being stuck on the hook? It's like the hook timer is acceptable but slug timer is toxic and an outrage.

But pressure isn't removed. Go after one that's not on the hook. If they're on the hook they're not doing anything.
To be fair with the size of some of the maps sometimes it's just not worth the time for the killer to try get to the other side of the map in the hope to make it there before they finish a gen. If there is a guy waiting to go for the save (often there is) they are not doing anything either so the killer would essentially be holding 2 survivors from doing gens by proxy camping. Better than traveling across a large map to a gen they might not even be at and if they are there it will pop before you get there and the hooked guy gets free and can't tunnel them out. Basically in certain circumstances, it's not just a simple case of chase a guy that's not on hook to maintain pressure, that's a good way to lessen the pressure if anything if on big maps.

Personally what works for me is hard tunnel a survivor out asap (yes at 5 gens) that gives time to wait out the hook timer when others do gens. Then go for slugging for last 3 (situational). Last 2 always gets slugged anyway to prevent hatch escape especially with noed. I justify noed with the speed at which gens pop... Gets me 3/4k very regularly. If survivors don't spend the time going for totems throughout the match they can pay the price at the end. I'm guessing that's the lame way of playing the OP mentioned but killers tend to adapt and it's often to a play style survivors are not happy with.
