Oh i would understand why they wouldn't restrict as it makes sence for monitization however if you get caught then you don't really have a leg to stand on when complaining.
Also i believe they still get some money just not as much based on some other youtubers i have watched who have gone into detail on monitization on their channels.
Yeah they are the culprit here, breaking the rules constantly
-
Yeah solo survivor is unplayable.
It's almost always Legion, and that killer press a button injure every survivor, and see their aura all the time. If survivors only knew what to do, but never because matchmaking is made for killer mains. So yeah 0 skill killer, just press a button requires zero mechanical skill, see you, can't outrun etc.
Surprise surprise about 50% of games vs legion.
Any serious game let players to ban something. But dbd no
-
The game is essentially p2p so it can't be protected against cheating.
Making server based would be expensive to maintain for bhvr, so they won't do it

Will still be less. Just need to look at how low the Demogorgon pick rate for proof. Attrition will happen.
Demo was always hated.

I was 6 (early 80ies) when, watching a new anime, I saw a gun tearing a man's belly apart. The gun and the shooter being visible trough the cauterised gaping hole. I found that amazing. Today it could never happen. I consider myself lucky.

######### that. YouTube needs to get their ######### together, not BHVR. Censoring the game makes it a snoozefest, considering the genre is HORROR. Either that, or we need a new platform to post videos on. But either way, please do spread awareness about this to whoever you can. I don't think any of us want DBD to stop being posted on YouTube.

VHS was having much deeper problems than balancing for competitive play. They were hacked numerous times. The other ones I am not as familiar with. Either way, most asyms are small, indie games. Those type of games don’t always last. I sincerely doubt it’s due to balancing issues.
Well for Propnight you have a case, they nerfed the killers, and made survivors extremely overpowered so killers quit
-
The blood could be changed for flowers in censorship options.
Another censorship option, is to make moris very blurry also when killer hitting a survivor.
Hooking also should be changed in censor option, like survivor not screaming and blur that too.
It happened with the violent games already, those devs implented censorship options to prevent content creation stop, now they are coming for dbd.
No amount of talking will save the game, need to be made into more 2023 sensitive people and company friendly

Pretty much all asym games have attempted to balance for casuals, and they all are dead or low activity. Dbd is number 1 because of the licenses. Game balance doesn’t deter the vast majority.
VHS balanced for tournament play it killed the game.
Sprit Detective/Soul Dossier balanced for top tier play 1 ghost vs 5 SWF on comms at top level, died, and dying.
HSHS balanced around SWF, survivors stopped playing now, game shutting down.

Honestly, I don't think so. The changes to her attack type means that most of her strongest builds are gone, ditto her addons.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3310456#Comment_3310456
Actual good players...ugh.
Okay, so. Part of being an 'actually good player' is knowing how to build right. Being a good player doesn't mean you run meme builds.
Go and watch the community cup - some of the best players in the world, with some of the strongest builds in the world. Killers ran Eruption and anything else nasty they could, slugged, camped, tunneled their hearts out.
Survivor squads had heavy restrictions on what they could bring.
Killers still had a rough time.
If they're going to nerf Eruption, they are going to have to rework it so that it stays viable when facing strong SWFs. But let's be honest here - whatever the killer meta is, it's going to get QQ'd about until it gets nerfed. Because when someone loses, it's way easier to say 'oh the killer did/used x and if they hadn't I'd have won' than 'oh, if we hadn't make x mistakes we would have won'.
Killer also couldn't use the best addons...
So I don't think that tournaments about real game balance, its an environment which don't exist in real games

DbD isn´t particuarly violent. I mean, not more violent than any action game or first person shooter out there. Thats just going to hurt youtube in the long run, if they censor everything and only allow Minecraft violence.
I mean, sure Mortal Kombat getting censored makes some kind of sense. But DbD?
Yeah its surprising but thats how it is, dozens of dbd content creators received demonetisation warnings for dbd content, Mori has to be blurred now, but even survivor mains videos got hit by these new violence guidelines which taken effect recently on YouTube.
People really getting sensitive nowadays
-
@Tsulan said:
Why does Youtube even censor to begin with? If they fear that content isn´t suited for minors on youtube, then why do they have youtube kids?
Most of violent games, now must be censored on YouTube if you want to earn money, like one of the games the blood replaced with flowers, and killing animation is blurred.
The excuse is that companies don't want ads on violent games. Mortal kombat, Yandere Simulator etc can get your whole channel demonetiseted if isn't censored, thats where we at.
Now even dbd considered to be extremely violent by YouTube standards
-
Well this is going for a while, its just now they are coming for tamer mature games like dbd.
But if you want to know how bad the YouTube censorship is, a channel which was focused on gore games, forced to switch content in this year, he released a cooking video, and now he switched to building and area destroying games (it's fine as long as no human hurt on screen)
-
I think its happening because there is no counter to tunneling, the first survivor going down already knows that he will be tunneled out, so he just gives up. As long as camping and tunneling are the best and most effective way to play the game, survivors will DC too often
-

I think the micro hacks are a big problem for both sides.Had a ghostface insta stalking looking right at him and his stalk keeps going, then had survivors that you just quite couldn’t catch even in bl3 running in a straight line.Insta heals are there too.Game is hacker paradise.
I think this explains the game popularity, easily hackable games are always more popular than those which are harder to cheat or even next to impossible.
Streamers are even saying that at very high MMR every second player is a subtle cheater, that's why devs made change to MMR so streamers don't have to face almost all the times.
Also the most popular cheat is wallhacking, I think cheaters are even calling it legit mode, if no other cheats used, since impossible to prove it, if used.
And also that's why some survivor or killer always knowing the location of everything, it isn't game sense but wallhacking
-
DbD 2 would be good, biggest problem is that the game built wrong, and very easy to cheat

Honestly, what helped me as a solo player was letting go of the goal of escaping. Now, a successful game to me is simply one where i pulled my weight, pipped, and walked away with decent bp. Escape is a bonus. The game genuinely became more enjoyable after that. And it also helps when I get those potato team mates too, as I find them more amusing rather than frustrating. I know that train of thought isn't possible for everyone, but it's definitely what keeps me interested.
So you dont expect to win anymore, and find fun constantly losing to killer

Nothing, they are still playing and love the game
-
Very easy for the killer to force 3 gen anyway
-
Lets assume that gens adjusted so gen defense perks are no longer needed to win vs high level team
What would happen is that killers would still run slowdown anyway, because most player at high level want to win the least amount of effort, and anything that gives the best advantage will be run, no matter what. This is how PvP games are. Human nature

NGL if you actually do this for a job like you claim, you really should learn the difference between correlation and causation. You're doing an awful lot of dismissing of relevant factors to laser focus on a single one, which would be extremely bad for prospecting clients who wish to take all relevant data from any success/failure in marketing and growth.
Lack of growth is much more of a death knell than even balance, as it creates a net negative potential. If you literally have nowhere to go but down, then the failure cascades rapidly as the sample set not only has no room to expand, but it shrinks directly relative to awareness. Its both poisoned stock and natural decline bottled together, and the vast majority of almost any game's sales happen in its opening 2 weeks, while marketing and advertising/promotion are designed to ebb vs the natural decline flow.
I'm not saying anything you have to say about VHS is right or wrong necessarily, just that you're drawing a lot of assumptions and dismissing a lot of valid reasoning.
The product itself was flawed, and almost anyone who played monster could tell that its the most frustrating role in the whole genre, I never played anything more miserable in the genre than that, after few games unistalled, and teen while was fun, didnt worth to wait over 20+ minutes to get a game, thats how it is. DbD killer without any buff felt so much powerful than the monster in VHS.
It was also better to be "killer" in Propnight, in F13, in HSHS, in Sprit Detective, in Evolve and even in Deathgarden .

The disagreement I have with the lack of marketing argument is the timeframe. In a matter of a few months VHS went from a high of 6,023 concurrent players on Steam to 140 currently and I wouldn't be surprised if next month was double digits. That is too fast of a decline for not marketing to be the primary cause. If it were spread out over years, that would be a different story.
The not enough marketing, at least to me, seems to be an extension of the 'But more beta keys will fix it!' to but 'But EA will fix it!' to 'But a better tutorial' and now to VHS needed more marketing.
It's too fast of a decline to be just marketing and the core issues were never fixed; new player Monster isn't fun enough to keep more than a small amount of people who tried it, of the ones who stayed they learned Monster wasn't fun even once you learned it, and without enough people to fill one side the match making, queue times, etc break down and impact the otherwise amazing and well-done Teen side.
In closed beta, whenever the fun part was brought up a common retort was 'But the balance!' and the devs gave high priority to the input from the same group of 50 people who were highly skilled at the game while ignoring the people in the lower levels of VHS who were saying it might be fun at the top but it's not balanced.
I literally said directly to the devs that if Monster is not fun enough to keep at least a minimum of 15% of the playerbase playing it and preferably 20% then all the rest doesn't matter because as Monsters leave queue times will grow, matchmaking will become harder and the Teens will also start to leave and this would crater the game.
Unfortunately, I was right and this is exactly what happened. I'm not surprised because as for my actual job over the last decade I have advised businesses (I'm not a teacher, I use TheSubstitute because of the mistaken leak for the Teacher Killer for DbD and teachers are good horror genre) and it was easy to see coming.
I am saddened, to be honest, because the game had so much potential but it forgot its product was entertainment value and balance was a tool and not a goal in and of itself.
Well said, but they never listened, there was always some excuse, just as you say, open EA will fix everything being free game will fix everything, marketing will fix everything, now I see that full release will fix everything.
They just forgetting its too late and since its free game, it doesnt matter if fully released because already free and few remaining 2000+ hours player will ensure that no new player can stay

VHS fell off because of different reasons. They had amazing momentum with their game on launch but never used that momentum to their advantage. They never really advertised their game. And more importantly there was a lot of mismanagement which hindered the game's growth.
Combine this with the lack of proper advertising the game never really was able to capture a bigger playerbase and only really blew up because a few content creators just so happened to notice the game. Ive only seen 1 ad for VHS since it's release and that was only for their recently released character, yet Ive seen more ads for other Asym Horror Games, even Evil Dead: The Game made better use of the momentum they had.
Not to mention how Beta Keys were a pain in the rear to get. Most people who wanted the play the game couldnt because the game was basically blocked off to a majority of people. And getting access to a working Beta Key was a horrible experience when most of the time they never worked.
VHS also had major issues with their servers and hacking, which I believe they ended up getting DDOSed and having their servers down for weeks as a result. Hacking killed the game early on because it launched with borderline no anti-cheat, it was worse than DBD's anti-cheat (but DBD is more mainstream so you are more likely to find cheaters, but that is besides the point). It led to a horrible consumer experience that turned people away from the game.
The developers are great, they seem to really care about their game and they really tried to get it off the ground, but their mistakes and mismanagement added up and killed their game before it could even take off.
Okay but at lauch they had close 5k players, yet they lost 60% of them, I dont think any marketing could have saved the game.
Sure there were less people because the lack of marketing, but player retention easily of the worst in the genre, other failed game in the genre also had no marketing, yet they managed to grow at first like Propnight, and HSHS, only at second month started to lose players, and they also had the same amount of player 4-5k at top just like VHS.
Again DDOS lost players for them before the launch, but after the launch they had no DDOS, those 5k players just hated the game, since player retention was so awful, only 40% playerbase remaning after a month.
Propnight managed to gain +5% after a month, HSHS gained +10% after a month, so those were much more successfull, not to mention that those games even after a year has more players than VHS.
So VHS is truly horrible with balancing

It kind of sounds like you want to emphasize the best balance over fun which is another reason that balancing for the top 1% kills games. If people aren't having fun why should they play or buy things for a game they don't enjoy? Very imbalanced is, of course, another way to kill a game but balance is a tool used to achieve fun. If the choice is better balance or more fun then balance is the subordinate goal and fun is the endgoal.
Yeah I think anymore buff to killers would hurt the survivor playerbase, right now its little killer favoured, but i guess it needed because most people cant handle losing playing as the one role, so they need a little bonus to winrate, 60% quite good number to aim for
-
@Reinami said:

That's pretty much how the design of asymmetrical games works. A single person of the team of 4, must be definition be weaker than the 1 of the team of 1. Thus the team of 4 MUST play well as a team in order to win.
So that means killer has big advantage vs SOLOQ players if there is even one weak link, however they are at disadvantage vs a good SWF, good balancing.
DbD has excellent balance right now.
-
@Reinami said:

@TAG said:

No it doesn't. It means that games are more likely to be determined by which side is more skilled. Also, I'm not arguing "balance killers among the top 1% of Survivors." I'm arguing "balance the game among the top 1% of players." The goal is not "make sure Killers can consistently win against the best Survivors." It's "make sure the best players can win regardless of which side they are on." Note how I am not referring to a specific side, unlike you.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3268526#Comment_3268526
That doesn't make any sense. When players are of roughly equal skill, the win rates between them SHOULD be close to 50/50, which some minor variations between killers (since all Survivors play identically). Obviously perfect balance is not achievable, but doesn't mean we can strive to get close to that.
But here is the thing, if one survivor isnt skilled then the game is lost for survivor team, because killer only has to rely on themselves, while survivors are a team. So if you balance around that top tier killer player vs top tier survivor team has about 50% winrate, that means all survivor has to be very good in order to stand a chance.
-
@Krazzik said:
I mean Monster in VHS is absolutely awful to play as, as many people have already pointed out. Tracking is much harder, monster-attack hitboxes are a lot smaller and precise, you get punished much harder for mistakes, literally miss an attack and you lose a stigma.
All of these things were constantly brought up as issues throughout closed beta and early access but the devs didn't prioritise it enough, and longer-term players in the Discord hand-waved any criticism away with "Well it's not an issue after you've played enough". I'd say monster being miserable for newer players was and still is THE biggest issue VHS has and many other issues are a direct result of it, but it'd take a complete rework of how monster works to fix, and they don't seem to want to do that.
Really it seems like they wanted the game to be all about Teens having fun, and then figured "Oh we need someone to actually play as the Monster". Should have just made the monster AI at this point.
Yeah but anytime that issues was brought up Dowsey just said he has over 90% winrate as monster thats why he playing as teen.
Later when Dowsey stopped playing, devs said that Trickstershadow has 50% winrate against the very best teen squads, so the game is perfectly balanced, remember that guy played non-stop for months as monster, and he was really good.

Balancing for the top 1% means taking out all the things that get broken when the top 1% uses it. It means things like Hyperfocus would need to be nerfed into the ground, because we would evaluate the perk based on what would happen if a survivor could reliably hit every great skill check.
That would mean taking out Starstruck for Nurse too, in fact that could even mean removing or reworking nurse, because when played by a godly player, no counter, even a 25k SWF god like survivor squad would lose to it, unless they are playing the restricted version.
This recently could have been seen Hens's SWF 25k hours Vs Alf's Nurse
they played 3 games
2 games where perks were free to pick, Nurse won
1 games where they played by tournament rules then SWF won.

@mischiefmanaged said:
I will say I agree that balancing across the range of spectrums is the way to go.
It feels like VHS became what it was because they were trying to make a competitive game before they made a fun game and then kind of forgot to make the game fun.
My personal experience playing VHS was I played the teen tutorial, the monster tutorial, and then just found it to be too similar to DBD except with more anxiety, more motion sickness, and less fun. The "ambush meta" for VHS makes monster just seem like a complete chore and the lack of visual cues for teens makes it very beginner unfriendly. Then there's just the unnecessary "monster stares into the sky each time they get a hit" which is extremely disorienting. It then just feels like the proper way to play is to use your power and, if you don't get a hit, hide behind a wall until your cooldown comes back.
The problem is all of these seem to exist for "balance" reasons and the fun seems to just be missing. I'd say that VHS's problem isn't that they balanced for the top therefore it's not fun, but that their intention was to make a competitive game before making a fun and unique game because of their desire to make a perfectly balanced game at the top level.
One thing BHVR understands well is that the fun part needs to be a priority and then you can balance it afterwards. Sometimes this makes balancing at all different levels is harder.
Yeah really the main thing that devs get lot of negativity, however they are doing really good job, because no matter the problems, the game is still fun, and they dont listen to streamers only.
As for VHS they just copied things from DbD without knowing why they are even there.
Like monster looking up after a hit, which might makes sense in dbd because in dbd killer is immortal cant be killed, while monster in vhs can be killed thats the teen objective. So they took the mechanics from dbd, and decided to change the formula, but these mechanics didnt made any sense in vhs gameworld.
-
@TheSubstitute said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3268373#Comment_3268373
I disagree. None of that would have mattered in the long run if Monster had been fun and the skill floor difference between Monster and Teen hadn't been so staggeringly different. VHS had over 6,000 concurrent players on Steam when EA took place to a peak of 140 concurrent players as of yesterday.
If Monster and especially new player Monster had been a better experience as was said so many times in closed beta they would have stuck around and Teens wouldn't have had 20+ minute queues followed by any new Teens only meeting the sweatiest Monsters (who were the only ones left) which cratered the numbers on the Teen side.
It was the balancing around the top 1% and only really listening to a group of 50 people that sunk it.
Pretty much, it was fun for Dowsey, Jaee, whose job and life to play games 12+hours a day, but the real playerbase who needs to work to live outside of games couldnt enjoy the game, because was balanced around top level players and streamers whose job to play games
-
@Emeal said:
The reason some streamers try to hype up another game is to get their viewers to watch them play it rather than the game the streamer is tired of playing. This is a huge problem with dbd and we do end up with some negative Nancy streamers who cant quit cause of money.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3268377#Comment_3268377
None of those changes are set in stone yet.
Yeah they really hoped that the game would be successful to finally play other game than dbd.
And turned out was biggest mistake to listen people like Dowsey and Jaee they all said is monster is fine during beta, yet most of the time they played teen. In fact the lesson is here dont listen to streamers, because they dont represent the majority.
However I liked that OTZ played few games in the beta, and said that monster is awful to play (remember the guy who enjoyed early dbd as killer) and liked Home Sweet Home survive as killer too. So think about it how bad the game is for more casual focused players
-
@FFirebrandd said:
That's not why VHS is mostly dead.
All of the following happened between when streamers were hyping it up an when it released.
1. A DDOS attack.
2. A lengthy period of radio silence.
3. A rebranding.
4. Their Discord getting hacked.
5. No marketing push to announce that the game was finally out.
I'll freely admit that VHS is much more punishing than DBD is, but trying to make it out like that is its biggest problem is incredibly inaccurate.
Its misinformation from Dowsey, the game was extremely hyped with 100k+ views before release, and he thought it will be big, when turned out the game is tanking because its balanced for top level players , he returned to dbd, and released the video.
He even said that monster is fine and at high level the winrate is exactly 50%, so game is balanced, when he played in the eternally long closed beta and always defended that beta should be long to be properly tested for "bugs" and "balance".
To be honest no matter how you market a bad game, noone will stick around.
The other thing at lauch the game had like 5k players, yet after a month lost 60% playerbase, i dont think it was about marketing, again a good game would have made people interested. But outside of streamers noone was impressed with sweat fest that game is, simply wasnt fun at all.

Title.
Its almost 2023 and this game does not have a replay option to see if a survivor is cheating or not.
Subtle wallhack cheaters, that always know where you are and you can never catch them because they know where the killer and every loop is.
Subtle repair and healing speed cheaters, that cheat just a little so you wont notice, subtle speedhack cheaters that speed up just a little.
If there are 300 cheaters in this game,I guarantee you BHVR doesn't ban even 20 of them, unless they mess with the currency.
And it shouldn't be the play job to have video proof, get out of the game, make a ticket, just so you can have 1 cheater out of 1000 banned, that probably has a lot of other burner accounts they can cheat on again and again.
Cheating is worse that the current balance problems and facecamping, tunneling, slugging,in this game.
Impossible, since the game built such way, you can't implent recording.
And let me tell you, they won't release a new dbd game.
Also hackers and cheaters calling wallhacks as "legit mode" since they can't be banned for it, impossible to prove.
That's why most killer and survivors always knowing where you are, and just saying gamesense luuul, not even an aura reading perk, but always finding you even at most obscure places and heading towards the next victim perfectly.
Subtle cheating in this game massive, that's why I don't play anymore

lets say youre a twins main, youve put in 1000 hours as twins, never play as anyone else, and thouroughly enjoy the unique playstyle that twins has that no other killer comes close to
the survivors ban twins, you want to play twins, not any other killer, so youre forced to dc
all the killers are unique in their own way. you remove the ability to play one killer, and then theres no alternatvie - you want to play the killer you chose, not some substitute
So a player ignoring 99% of the gameplay, this is quite problematic in my opinion.
Already causing problems like, Wesker is extremely overplayed just like Legion, I rarely want to play because the same killers all over again, because others refuse to play anything else

killer bans would lead to longer queues
map bans should be in settings, just 4 maps as killer you cannot go to, and 1 map as survivor thats the same (so therell be up to 8 maps that cannot be gone to per game, but likely less than that since survivors will end up doubling up on votes - and a swf should get 1 ban)
It wouldnt.
At start at the game, they voting for a killer to be banned, then killer player can switch to other killers, which of plenty to play.
Like we already have over 30+ killers, why is big deal to play other than 1 killer?

Killer ban is more like that you dont want to face a specific killer because you always go against and getting bored and tired.

You are not good at math, right?
Oh nevermind, you are a killer main and you just want to manipulate with numbers, that's nothing new.
7 2Ks and 3 3Ks is 57.5%. While 6 2Ks + 4 3Ks is exactly 60%.
And the nurse is not in the top killers, because there are many noobs who can't play her, so they skew the stats. But yeah, tell us some more killer-main fairytales.
Also against Nurse DC are very common, and since games with DC are excluded from the stats. Also Nurse in the very top even at high ranks, most killer main attempt to invalidate the stats because there is a like less than 1% difference between kills, and saying well she isn't top tier killer, she has 60,5% while others in her tier has 60,6%-60,9% , so stats are unreliable

I disagree pretty hard that Nurse is impossible to play on console. She's "harder" to play because of limitations but she's still easily the best killer when someone gets good at them.
I've played against multiple Playstation Nurses, that before seeing them at the end screen I would have sworn they were PC because of their movements, they never missed and the entire team was wiped at 4-5 gens. I've also seen two different PS Nurses multiple times that don't use perks/add-ons and just ######### on everyone.
Are they as good as some of the best PC ones I played against? Not quite but I'd still put them at the level where they probably ######### on the majority of players, same as the PC ones.
How do you know that they are on PS?
Could be from microsoft store and epic store too
