The problem is the perk might as well say "Whenever your obsession gets unhooked the survivor that performed the unhook becomes your obsession." The intended purpose of the perk is so bad it might as well be non-existent. The entire purpose of using a perk shouldn't be the supporting mechanic implemented to make it work. It could be more than a silly meme perk without being overpowered or problematic.

I've actually seen people use it pretty creatively. With a killer like the Hag, you can use it to have an 8m terror radius when in a chase. It makes switching targets very easy because they won't even know you're there until it's too late.

Again, not meta, but it's variety, and that spices things up.

  • I've always liked it with Play With Your Food on Wraith. It's a good way to keep the obsession changing so you can go fast without worrying about tunneling. Definitely not meta, but it makes fun builds, and I'll take a fun build over something powerful any day.

  • I'm assuming you mean the challenge where you need to use Dark Sense and power four generators? If so, you only need to be on the generator when it finished, not for the whole time. I'd suggest slapping on Bond. Always try to work on a generator that someone else is doing, that way you're less likely to miss out. It might take a few tries, but it's definitely doable.

I find it weird that the only reason they looked at doctor was because he was annoying to face in treatment. From what I watched in their Q&A they weren't motivated by trying buff him, they were motivated by making treatment less annoying to face.

I'm happy he'll be buffed but just worries me how that wasn't what they originally looked at.

Perhaps it wasn't conveyed fully in the stream, but it's more a matter of killing two birds with one stone. If we can make something more fun to play as and against while also giving them some QOL changes, that's a two for one deal. We're already changing them, so we can knock out both at the same time. This way we get more value out of the changes we make since it makes both sides happy at the same time.

I feel like you are avoiding me. You keep acknowledging my question, and then answering it in the most vague way possible.

Like with the Nurse update I asked why the cooldown was what it was, and the answer was basically confirming that you had a method, but not actually saying what the method to figure it out was and how you arrived at 3 seconds in particular.

And this time you specified the thing about slugging, but my question was about why the Oni's power needed any kind of penalty at all. You sort of answered it in a very broad sense, but you never said what about the power makes it need a penalty moreso than other comparable powers like Plague's corrupt Purge or Myers tier 3 (no that's not a suggestion).

I'm also not convinced that Legion needs a penalty for M1ing, but that's a different story.

It's not that we're avoiding you, we wouldn't be answering your questions if we were. We keep it simple because those Q&As reach a much wider audience, not just you specifically.

For the Nurse, it went through a lot of iterations and testing, consulting experienced players, etc. At three seconds, you'll just about have a charge back by the time you recover from fatigue.

For the Oni, it's much of the same. The PTB showed that the Oni was way too powerful in the right hands, able to zoom around the map and down almost the entire team with a single use of his power. We've changed it to have a soft limit, where your power ends sooner the more survivors you down. This way you can still get some oomph out of it, but the game doesn't end in under 40 seconds. Likewise, we changed it to cancel your power and maintain your current charge and spawn blood orbs when hooking a survivor to make hooking the survivor you just downed a little more appealing.

I'm not contesting the majority of what you said, as most of it makes sense and I can definitely accept the logic, but could you not also say that a survivor who's extremely stealthy but also does objectives and saves should have an equal chance to rank up and go against killers who are harder to stealth against? I have never been able to loop. Been to rank 1 a few times as survivor, and I still can't loop for #########. What I'm good at is not being easily found, even while I'm helping the team. My emblem for chases is usually terrible because I'm bad at them, but I find success in the stealth and intelligent play gameplay...even if there's no emblem that gives me anything resembling a reward for "was only in the killer's terror radius twice all game"

That's where the debate comes in, and I can't say there's a right answer either way.

  • By other survivors? Mostly because people have had bad experiences with that guy that Urban Evades across the entire map while they're on the hook, only unhooking them after they hit second stage.

In terms of emblems, mostly because there's not a whole lot of skill involved in staying hidden. But that's a whole debate. Should someone who can't survive in a chase rank up and get even harder chases, or should they stay where they are where they have a better chance if they do get caught?

That's not to say that stealth is bad, but there's a time and place for it, and there's some people out there who can't tell when it's time to sprint in, and that tends to sour other people's opinions.

It's still a bit stupid how he's completed all the challenges and he's only halfway through the rift. Some of those challenges are really tedious and they should give you more rift progression rewards tbh. Not saying that when you complete all challenges you should be at tier 80 but at least a bit closer to tier 80.

We did warn about this, for what it's worth.

When we originally planned the Tome and Rift, we had designed it in such a way that you would earn enough fragments from Player XP to finish The Rift by the time you complete all the challenges. Since the challenges can now be completed in fewer matches, you may need to play additional matches after completing the Tome in order to reach Tier 70 in The Rift.

Just curious is that 54 hrs of actually game time not including que time?

That appears to be the timer from the Steam overlay, which would show the entire time you had the game open, not just time in a match.

  • If we're talking about blocking a window, no, they beat you there. I think it'd be silly to expect to vault a window that someone else is blocking. That's just a part of the game.

If we're talking about trapping someone in a corner so they can't leave, that's a different story.

  • You absolute madman, you really did an entire summary.

I am just glad the devs finally answered a question I made

I promise we're not avoiding you, we just can't answer the pirate questions.

  • There have been tournaments by the community and one by us in the past, but it's not really designed to be a e-sports game.

  • You only need to be on the generator while it's completed, not do the whole thing by yourself. I'd suggest tossing on a perk like Bond to help you keep track of the other survivors. If you're working on a generator with someone else, you're less likely to miss out on one going off.

    Oh there you are Peanits.

I was wondering why you aren't around in the Q&A when they talk about Community Feedback stuff. Specifically stuff that is posted about a lot on the Forums. You are here and in the grit of it all and it'd be cool to see and hear more of you when it is brought up.

Mostly because switching mics on the go is a pain, since they attach to your shirt. It's much better to have someone there all the way through, and I feel like having a designer who's actually making the changes is far more interesting to watch. Get the news straight from the source, basically.

And also because I look like a bad drawing of Danny Devito.

I don't want Doc to change. I never lose when I use him as he is rn :(.

To be fair though, i havent watched the dev stream so i have no idea how it will work. I'll come back after and give feedback

If you're not somewhere where you can watch it right now, we've also got a written recap up here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/113941/

The Doctor stuff is way down at the end.

Will survivors still be able to avoid screaming by hiding in a locker or using Calm Spirit?

Yes, there's no plan to change Calm Spirit for the time being.

  • @S_Panda said:

Speaking of not needing treatment mode: will that mean shock-grabs aren't possible since it'll not be on M1 anymore?

I do believe so, yes, but don't quote me on that.

  • @EldritchElise87 said:

So just to be clear, you can walk at 4.6ms and still use your shock to cut off loops and deny windows/pallets? Because that in of itself is a pretty big buff to his chase potential.

    Yes.

Granted, you still slow down while you're charging the shock itself, but otherwise, yes. You don't need to slowly switch modes, move slower, shock, then slowly switch back.

  • @BBQnDemogorgon said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/930511#Comment_930511

Isn't that a nerf though? Since you'll have to hope they're in your TR when you use it? In the past it was a tool to tell you that.

Now you'll want to be confident they are or you'll be hit with a 60 second cooldown.

Doctor needs to be better not weaker. We don't know everything yet but so far its not sounding like "omg doctor is so good/cool/more fun now."

For survivors yeah he won't be as annoying but as him it seems like he got hit hard. (So far)

Depends on how you use it. The field currently is very unreliable after someone hits tier 1. You can walk around the map and pass right by someone and they won't scream. After this change, you hit them with the blast, you'll know where they are every time. Combo that with Whispers and you'll have a very easy time tracking survivors.

  • Gonna' drop it here because there's a lot of questions: I can't spill all the beans just yet, today's stream was just a quick teaser. We'll have more details in the new year.

  • They're probably harder to hit than ever now. You can have small skill checks that go backwards and appear randomly around your screen. It really messes with you more than you'd think.

  • The speed up the rate at which you heal others as well, but most will only allow you to heal yourself at regular speed (16 seconds base). If you're ever wondering, I'd recommend checking the descriptions. They'll all say if they increase the speed you heal yourself or others.

EDIT: Wow, I just read that back and it sounds like I'm passive aggressively saying that you didn't read the descriptions. I don't mean it that way, I promise.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/930487#Comment_930487

Oh? That actually sounds really nice. I’m glad I didn’t grease my pitchfork.

Are backwards skill checks basekit or only add ons? I ask because I prefer to run killers without add ons, so madness being more threatening at base would be a huge thing for me.

Add-ons, at least for the time being. The Doctor is a bit of an oddball here because he's sorta' based on the idea that you can "build your own madness" and pick the effects you want with add-ons, with the base madness being somewhat of a blank slate.

  • It is a guaranteed madness tier for Static Blast. The normal shocks remain unchanged, other than the fact that you no longer need to change modes to use it (moving at 4.4m/s in the process).

  • I'd say try it first. You've only heard part of the changes, jumping to a conclusion now is silly.

    For those who missed it:

    • Treatment mode is gone. You no longer need to switch modes to shock survivors. (Shock and then hit people quicker.)
    • The Static Field has been replaced with a Static Blast. This shocks your full terror radius and gives any survivor hit by it a full tier's worth of madness. Cooldown of 60 seconds.
    • Various add-on improvements.
    • Backwards skill checks in madness.

And there will be a PTB first, of course, which means it could change before going live.

Also he'll be getting his own unique chase music. That doesn't really affect balance, but it's cool and I figured I should mention it.

  • Because you gotta' look fresh while you're chasing people.

For what it's worth, she's already very tall with the ears of her mask making her even taller. You can already keep track of her around most low/medium height loops, and you still won't be able to see her around the tall ones (majority of loops).

  • But wait, these forums have only been around since about June 2018.

For real though, that still blows my mind. There's so many larger games out there with communities less active than this. You guys are awesome.

  • @TheCrookedMan said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/927591#Comment_927591

It seems apparent to me that you are fine with the current rate that generators can be done. If that's the case, and you and the devs believe this, then that's fine, I'll put my faith into you guys and further attempt to hone my own skills to deal with it. But can I ask what's your in depth opinion on the matter. I think it would do myself, and the other large portion of the community who believe this is an issue some good if you would get into the thought process behind it, and get into why you believe it's fair.

Only speaking from personal experience here, but the vast majority of the time, I feel like they're fair. I don't run any slowdown perks and I tend to do just fine. Sometimes I'll mess up and have a bad game, but that's not a game problem, that's a me problem.

That's not to say that there's no time where they ever go to fast with nothing you can do about it, but using videos where someone had a bad match as evidence doesn't really help your case. The tricky part is how do you prevent them from going too fast on those rare occasions without slowing them down the rest of the time?

  • Not blocking the ones that are being worked on gives you information as the killer. You'll know which ones are being worked on, so you'll know exactly where to go after hooking that survivor even if they hide in lockers to avoid BBQ.

  • It is, yes.

There i've brought balance to the forums.

Thank you. It's not glamorous work, but it needed to be done.

  • I'll be honest, not what I was expecting when I saw the title, but it's refreshing nonetheless. See you soon!

  • @supersonic853 said:

@Peanits would this be possible itd make michael pretty good in tier 2 since he can go to tier 1 to lower the terror radius.

Of course it would be possible, whether or not it's easy or should happen is the real question. On a personal level, I wouldn't really want this for two reasons:

    1. Hiding your terror radius mid-game is something that the Wraith, Pig, and Ghost Face already do.
    2. Myers' stalking is finite. Once you've stalked someone enough, you can't stalk them anymore. If you start tiering down, that means you need to stalk more, which means less EW3.

I don't think it's a terrible idea, but I do think it would be unnecessary since there's already other killers that can do that. I'd rather he stay as the guy who gets stronger over the course of the game than trying to make him into something he's not.

  • They'll typically launch at 11 am ET (about half an hour from the time I posted this).

Is there any way for non-dev/CMs to check the actual numbers? I’d be legitimately curious to see if my estimate was correct, and percentage of killer games were each killer...

Nope, it's all hidden away. It takes a bit of effort to be able to check it. It would definitely be very cool to see, though.

  • I went ahead and actually checked my stats.

    46.31% : 53.69%

TIL I need to play more survivor.

I think this would’ve been a better video...

    https://youtu.be/UfRH5VzNOhI

4 gens done in 2 minutes and 29 seconds. The video you showed were honestly average speed so not a lot of people are going to agree with you.

Another good example would be this video.

    https://youtu.be/lP8t3FpriOg

5 gens done in 4 minutes and 10 seconds...seems pretty rough.

    Note:

    • No ruin for both matches
    • No perks for both matches
    • Rotten fields for the first match
    • Doctor was used for the first match

@Peanits could we possibly get a review or statement for those videos? For me it just seems like a gen rush. In the first video yes tru had tunnel vision on someone, but for that many gens to be done in one chase (two with the pallet stun), just isn’t balanced.

Sure. The first one is a classic.

    • Mistakes at shack.
    • You can hear the generator next to shack being worked on, but he didn't chase them off of it.
    • First down at ~1:30
    • Gets pallet stunned
    • First hook at ~2:15

That's a long time for the survivors to have nothing to do but generators. It just looks like a bad match to me, we all have them.

The second one is pretty outdated at this point. It all went downhill after that DS on first down. Fortunately it's not like that anymore, so that wouldn't happen these days.

There's nothing wrong with having a bad match every now and then, though. Sometimes you'll kill all four before a gen is done, sometimes you'll go against good survivors and get every mindgame wrong and lose. That's nothing to be ashamed of.

  • @bgbomb said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/927473#Comment_927473

Then what can it do in that situation?

i mean right after the second unhook.

the killer had already in a chase and hit the survivor in 30SEC.

And the killer wasn't tunnal but try to force out other survivor from doing gen in 3:22.

and maybe try to down the survivor in next 40SEC

    but what happen?

    5GENS done.

What can the killer did in that situation?

Is spending 30~40SEC to find a survivor and get 1 hit too slow?

    I don't think so.

Downing somebody so the survivors have to leave the gen and go save would be a good start.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcdPgkR3AEY&t=1s

Ok, what about this video then? At least half my games are like this even with 4 slow down perks at red ranks. Gen speeds are a major issue and need too be addressed.

Just watched it through. The killer got two hooks and then never downed anyone after that. The generators weren't the problem there, they have no reason to do anything but generators unless the killer stops them from doing them. Four slowdown perks will only help so much if you're not stopping them from doing generators in the first place.

  • I'm not sure if I'm watching the same video, but I saw the generators done in about 7:20, with the last survivor escaping roughly ten minutes in. That's not exactly a short match. You win some, you lose some. The killer lost in this one.

  • @Rattman said:

What about questions, which were collected before? Will there be Q&A stream?

    @Peanits

Yep. There should be an announcement for the date and time sometime today.

  • There is actually a known issue with the Nurse specifically for the new map. She seems to have issues blinking around the temple. We're looking into fixing that as soon as possible.

  • For overrated, self care. You end up taking so long to heal that nothing gets done. If you have two or three people doing this in a match, you're in for one wicked long game.

Underrated, Solidarity. Toss that bad boy on with We'll Make It and you can unhook someone, heal them, and then get healed yourself all in a little over 16 seconds.

  • If we were to put out a patch now and it ends up breaking something, we wouldn't be able to react in time. By the time we can fix whatever went wrong and send it off for certification, we would all be off for the holidays.

  • We'll be announcing the date and time pretty soon. Keep an eye out for the announcement.

(I need fingerguns that I can use on the forums.)

  • There will be a stream before the holidays, yes. We'll be announcing it shortly. There's not enough time for a hotfix, though. It'd be pretty risky to do before we all leave, since if something went horribly wrong, we wouldn't be able to fix it in time.

We gave details on what we'd like to do to the flick here, though: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/112192/

  • No patch today, no, that would be too risky before the holidays. There won't be any riots either, we can all voice our concerns in a civil way.

  • I have been baited.
