I always view it as fair game, but it tends to be a bad idea unless you're sure you can get a second down quickly. For that reason, I'll usually only slug if I see another survivor nearby, otherwise I'll just take the hook.
To give an example, me Huntress, me throw hurty sticks. If I down one guy and see someone else nearby, I'll throw a hatchet and hit them. If I'm now out of hatchets, I'll let them go and settle for the hook or else there's a good chance my slug will get picked up while I'm chasing. If I do have hatchets, I'll usually try to get a second down quickly and then go hook the first guy.

Some great questions so far. Thank you, keep it up!

Are there any plans to accordingly adjust survivor generator perks or is this strictly just an FU to the killer players?
You've got a good question here and I'd like to have that on the stream, but that last bit is an example of the sort of thing we're asking you to avoid. It's a perfectly reasonable question, there's no need to slip in the "is this strictly just an FU to the killer players".
-
That's a bit of a loaded statement. Any pallet can become a loop, and choosing not to break certain pallets will definitely backfire. Safer loops in particular need to be broken or else people will definitely use them. Good survivors will know how to run the different tiles to keep their distance while maintaining LOS as much as possible.

Toolbox nerf wont change a thing, just saying
I don't know about that. Even a Commodious Toolbox with Socket Swivels and Instructions makes you repair 30% faster, and it'll typically last you the whole game (if your teammates are helping with gens). That'll bring a solo generator down to ~61.5 seconds. An Engineer's Toolbox will take it down further to ~57 seconds, though it'll run out much faster.
If you end up in a match with several toolboxes, that's a lot of time to knock off of your main objective. I wouldn't undersell how much they can do.

Just to ask, is that one of the reasons why BHVR are changing Hex:Ruin?
BHVR acknowledges an issue with the gen times but can't create a sufficient solution without removing Ruin from the equation because it covers the issue up too much?
It's definitely a factor. Any time you make something that affects generator speeds, you need to think "But what about Ruin?" Being able to balance around a single constant speed is much easier to do, and that way you don't have to worry about leaving the people who don't use it behind while making it excessive for those who do. It's the same philosophy we apply to the solo vs. SWF gap, where we're gradually bringing the two closer together so we can better balance around everyone without leaving people behind.

There is Wake Up!, for what it's worth. I don't think it would be a game changer, since Wake Up! is pretty rarely used as is.

What about PTB data? All my matches in the PTB had the gens getting repaired extremely fast, when I played as both killer and survivor
PTB data isn't very reliable since ranked matchmaking is completely disabled (there's not enough people playing on the PTB to support it). Beyond that, there's a lot of people playing with the changes for the first time, so it would be unrealistic to expect them to play well right away. Many people might only play a few matches before switching back to live.

Why do you guys always drop updates and PTBs on Tuesdays instead of the weekend when ppl will be able to play them? I always have abit of inner conflict about "should I call in sick or be a responsible adult?"
Just so we're able to support it if something goes horribly wrong. If we're out for the weekend, there's nobody in the office. If there's a really bad issue with an update (like the basement bug, for example), we can whip up a fix that same week and send it off for certification, which usually means it's ready early the week after.
It's one of the things we've learned over the years. We used to patch any day it was convenient (even Friday), but that has backfired before, so we don't want to repeat that again.

Maybe fact that 80% of red ranks are using old Ruin can indicate that something is wrong with gen times. Question is WHY there is need of using 1 perk every game. WHY ppl waste their perk slot every game and taking risk that hex will dissapear in 1 minute. Because they need to slow down game early to prevent beeing gen-rushed.
I was suggesting adding refueling objective (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/116859/refueling-generators-objective) which can prevent gen-rushing (especialy SWFs gen-rushing) early without any need of changing gen speeds. It would make game healthier and bring more fun for both sides.
You should bring Ruin change and gen speed change at once - not first delete Ruin and then study what gonna happen. You put killers to weaker situation until you finish studying consequences and make gen speeds fixed.
Again, I don't mean to say that nothing should be done, but you can't know how much needs to be done when the supposed issue is being hidden by a perk. It's hard to say for sure. While yes, a lot of people use it, there's also killers out there who don't use it and still do just fine. Adding extra time to objectives would only stand to be a massive buff to them.
I've seen the gas suggestion a few times. I'm a bit of a fan, personally, but my only concern is that it removes points of contention from the game. Right now, if I'm not chasing a survivor, I know I can go between generators until I find someone. If I instead have to search every inch of the map looking for people who might be scavenging for gas as well, suddenly I lose my best way to find survivors.

Does this mean you guys are actually going to do something about gen times? First I've heard of it if so
We've mentioned it a bunch of times, but after this update, we'll be able to see how things typically play out without a perk covering it up and make adjustments if needed. Not necessarily a guarantee that gen times will change, but we aren't just dropping this update and moving on. If we find that we need to make a change, we will.
-
There are no confirmed dates yet, for what it's worth, so I wouldn't recommend booking a day off or anything. Glad to hear that you're looking forward to the update, though.
-
The delay on the shock effect is longer than intended at the moment. We'll be bringing it back down to be the same as the old delay when the update goes live. We'll also be reducing the delay after using shock therapy before you can shock or attack again.
-
Toolboxes, personally. But that's because I'd rather lose to people playing well or being efficient rather than bringing better items.
Then again, I wouldn't say the two need to be mutually exclusive. It doesn't have to be one or the other, it could be both if it needs to.
-
She has the potential to be very good when played well, although I'd still put a good Nurse above her for sure. There's a lot of tiles where you can't get LOS or mindgame for a hit, so your only option is to brute force it and become a bloodlust gamer. The Nurse doesn't care about any of that, she can blink right through it.
-
We are not. We have mentioned multiple times that if something needs to change about gen times, we're happy to take a look into it. Unfortunately we cannot do that when 80% of red ranked killers are using a perk that covers it up- it makes it impossible to tell what actually needs to be done. We'll keep an eye on it.
-
I can ensure you that it has nothing to do with censorship. There are plenty of people here who are voicing concerns and giving negative feedback. The difference is whether or not it's being done in a civil and constructive way or if they're insulting people. This goes for people who defend our decisions as well; insulting the people criticizing us is not okay. Negative feedback is welcome, but that's not a green light to attack people. We can all share our thoughts without attacking each other.
-
I tend to run BBQ, Nurse's Calling, Deerstalker and Iron Maiden on my Huntress. The first half is sorta' meta, granted BBQ is only for the bloodpoints. It's handy for switching targets and keeping track of your slugs, going for long range hatchets, and Iron Maiden catches people off guard. People who try using lockers to hide from BBQ give up once they scream, and reloading mid-chase often makes people think they're safe to move on to the next tile while you're reloading only to realize that you're right on them again.
For survivor, Head On, Q&Q, Inner Strength, and Any Means Necessary. The first three combo together really nicely and give me a way to heal, and AMN has let me save quite a few pallets since I started using it.

So you'll take the time to make sarcastic remarks here, but everyone everywhere is asking what the duck is up with matchmaking- and it's total silence? Well okay....
We've actually answered this a number of times. We're looking into matchmaking issues right now, and we'll have more info on that pretty soon.
-
I would hesitate to say that this is because of balance, but either way, I would absolutely suggest reporting stuff like that. We have a team of people reviewing reports and we do not tolerate that.

Hitting a hatchet through a tiny hole. Or Head On. I'll take either one.

I think the solution is pretty obvious. They are getting ready to introduce AI into the game to take the place of Killers.
In all seriousness, the developers don't actually play their game, and get their information from a select few number of influencers, which more often than not have the same views on the game and are biased toward one side.
Today I learned I do not play the game. Here I was thinking I've been playing the game for the past 3-4 years, but it turns out I was launching the wrong game all along.
-
Could be neat. I would imagine for a killer like the Hillbilly who has their chainsaw up very often, it would be worth it for a lot of people. For a killer like the Clown who only sees the bottle very briefly before tossing it (at which point, you're probably not going to be able to see any details), maybe less so.
-
Clearly they want you to take it very literally and play a killer from a movie, like Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger. Ghost Face doesn't count since it's an original character using the mask.
-
Using voice chat is not something we ban for, nor something we would like to ban for.

Will it get releases on all platforms on the same day?
We always aim to have the major releases (chapters, mid-chapters) out on all PC/console platforms on the same day, unless something goes wrong.
-
There's no date yet, but it'll typically be at least two weeks after the start of the PTB (so I wouldn't get your hopes up for next week).

Oh there is no question about it from anyone except the devs for some reason - Keys have to go and so do Mori's. Maybe they could be reworked, but I don't see much room for them to work with in that regard.
I don't think we've conclusively said anywhere that we don't want to change keys and mori's. Frankly I'd agree with you from my own experience playing (speaking for myself). More realistically, IF we were to completely rework the two, that would take a significant amount of time, and finding the time to do that is tricky.
(Emphasizing IF because this is not confirmation of anything.)

Your original comment was purely from a survivor standpoint. As well as many other things coming from BHVR in the last few days.
Either way - the killer victory cube defines winning as pipping. When you can pip with 3 kills at rank 2, then I will agree with you. Right now, if you get a 3k at rank 2, you're looking at a black pip at best...especially if the game ended too quickly (which is strange, cause you'd think you'd be rewarded for ending it fast and efficiently).
I ensure you that it wasn't. I could not play both sides more equally if I tried (I played about 53% killer to 47% survivor last I checked).
I won't disagree with you on the emblem front, but against, I don't think the hatch is the issue here, it's the way the emblem system reacts (or rather, doesn't react) to it.
-

It's amazing how you only think of it from the survivors point of view. Literally - the killer has killed 3 people before the gens were done...and all you're going on about is "well not it's unfair for the 1 survivor left". No, it's not. Their team lost. Their teamwork failed.
I'm looking at it from both POVs. As I killer, I do not want to waddle around between the remaining generators for half an hour waiting for that last survivor to make a move. I want that match to end so I can move on to the next match. If that last guys escapes, oh well, I got three, I still won. If I find the hatch first, I won. Either way it's over in a couple minutes.
-
I definitely see what you mean, but I would say your issue is more with the keys than the hatch. The hatch on its own might only let one person escape. While that isn't desirable, the alternative would be a never ending game where the survivor can't work on a generator because the killer is patrolling them and the moment they touch one, the killer will hear it and know. Back when this was possible (before the EGC), these matches would go on for an incredibly long time.
-
I get greedy, and it backfires sometimes. I'll go for a fancy hatchet when I could have M1'd and miss, or I'll leave someone slugged and they'll get picked up almost immediately. Otherwise as survivor, I'll mindgame myself and end up running right into the killer.
-
We are looking into matchmaking issues at the moment. We'll keep you posted as new info becomes available.
-
You do get Auric Cells back, as seen in the PTB.
-
Golden toolboxes are only on maps that didn't come with the game at launch back in 2016, so any of the original 4 Coldwind Farm maps would not have one. If Fractured Cowshed has one, it has never been found.
Best of luck to you guys finding any that you haven't found yet.

Gens take forever with that combo because killer always run to the yellow gens.Thats the problem.I like chases but sometimes you need to rush gen when killer is chasing someone
I see where you're coming from, but if you're being chased, you're not in an M1 simulator anymore. Though if you don't want to get chased away as often, you'd probably be better off looking for the totem.
-
Surely if the issue is that the killer always sees where you are, it would be the opposite of an M1 simulator. They'll be chasing you more often or you'll be looking for the totem, not sitting on the generator.

Peanits I know you are a Red Rank Survivor yourself. I've seen you play with the likes of Farmer John, Puppers, etc. Surely you know how easy it is right now to just power through Ruin, or even disable it right? You can see how hard Killers are throwing themselves just to fulfill the Emblem System and now its been made even harder for them. You even use infinites and loops to show how easy the Survivor role is. Surely you mentioned these things to the other devs?
Typically red ranks on both sides- little behind on killer at the moment since I was out of town since the reset. All in all, I went ahead and checked my stats and it turns out I play killer about 53.44% of the time.
I do agree with what you're saying, although I do think we're talking about a best case scenario. You and I may power through it, but to give an example, what if the other guy is playing with a couple of friends who are newer to the game and haven't been practicing skill checks for the last few years? What quite often happens is that first generator will go off, but then nothing else happens as the rest of the team is running around searching for a totem. Then I have to either decide if I should continue doing generators by myself or go cleanse the totem so the others will help out.
I wouldn't base the entire thing on a single scenario, there's far too many variables. I can only speak from my personal experience, and I've had plenty of teammates who can't handle it (after over three years).
My thoughts are about the same as yours in terms of emblems, though. As someone who doesn't use Ruin (or any slowdown perks) myself, I definitely feel it. Thankfully there's also a change to address that aspect, so if someone's concern is their emblem score, it should be lessened at the same time as this change.
-
It could be interesting. If it does, surely that would encourage survivors to slow down and do totems to prevent that from happening.

In the patchnotes is written that there is only level 1 of the new tome on the PTB. When it goes live, will we get all 4 levels at the same time to go through or will it be the same as the first time where we get a new level every few weeks?
Same as the first Tome. They release periodically.
-
The second Rift releases at the same time on all platforms when the mid-chapter update releases, and there will be some time between the end of the first Rift and the start of the second. Any progress people on the PTB make will not transfer back to live, everyone will have the start at the same point.
-
No, flashlights haven't changed. It's possible for them to blind faster if two or more survivors are blinding a killer at the same time.
-
The elephant in the room is that you could walk backwards after a survivor to avoid a chase, allowing you to close the vast majority of that distance very quickly. Even a 4.6m/s killer would be closing the gap at over double the normal rate.

Not that we would be able to tell if someone deranks to a more comfortable place, given that BHVR is removing ranks from the tally screen and the matchmaking is still broken. Or is that considered the 'fix' to the matchmaking issues?
I don't want to be that guy, but ranks haven't been removed from the tally screen. You'd have known that if you gave it a try first.

You can't expect every killer to be at the level of Otz.
Naturally. But if that's the case, those who can't play at a high level will derank to a place where they're more comfortable. That is the point of a ranking system, after all.
