Not sure that "Only one pedestal may exist at any time is true", i've actually had a few games on Autohaven where iv walked past a crown pedestal just to find another a tile over, went back to the previous tile and the first pedestal was still there. Either it's a bug or more than one can spawn.

That could've just been a coincidence. One person got one of the crowns while you weren't looking, then another got the other one. Without direct confirmation of two people seeing two pedestals simultaneously, I'm not going to edit the OP.

Which killers and survivors can't get crowns?

In the FAQ section there's a link to a list of licensed characters. Those are the ones that can't get the crowns.

  • I agree. If someone's not about to be hooked, open the ######### gates. I've died more times than I'd care to remember because some idiot decided to leave the gates at 99% "just in case". In case of what, I do not know, since the killer didn't have NOED and nobody was about to be hooked.

If I came off wrong, I'm sorry.

What I meant was, WHY do we need more female killers? A character shouldn't just be added for the sake of another female.

The devs would never add a character just because they're male or female. Gameplay comes first. However, the rest is essentially random. Skin tone, country of origin, sex, you name it. It has no impact on gameplay, so the lore department can go nuts. They could create a female killer who really hates marshmallows and has orange skin. It wouldn't matter in the slightest.

What about instead of worrying about the characters gender, race, or sexuality we should be more focused on how unique and fun to play they are.

Sure, but their gender, race, and sexuality are things that can be defined with zero impact on how unique and fun to play they are. The main focus will always be the gameplay.

  • At launch (version 1.0.0), it took 15 seconds to sabotage a hook using a toolbox. With Saboteur it was 18,75 seconds.

    @Orion

So if it was based on proximity, all they had to do is have the effect not proc when another survivor is within proximity. That’s it.

That encourages the killer to leave the hook, while still be able to proxy camp. Tests are fine but just because that one test didn’t work still doesn’t solve the issue at hand and it is not the only option, They could also give survivors more tools to either avoid being face camped or deal with it in some way.

Face camping is a problem in the game, so no amount of data is going to change that fact. You only need to be subject to it to truly understand how frustrating it is to feel like you just hang on a hook without playing the game. I’m willing to bet most people who are face camped would gladly die, if it meant that it was an interactive experience for them.

So if it was based on proximity, all they had to do is have the effect not proc when another survivor is within proximity. That’s it.

The radius would have to be so big that it would ultimately defeat the purpose.

Tests are fine but just because that one test didn’t work still doesn’t solve the issue at hand and it is not the only option

The tests showed that the idea was flawed to begin with.

They could also give survivors more tools to either avoid being face camped or deal with it in some way.

Survivors do have those tools. They're called "stealth" and "rushing gens", respectively.

You only need to be subject to it to truly understand how frustrating it is to feel like you just hang on a hook without playing the game.

I'm a survivor main, despite what people may think. I've been subject to slugging, camping, real face camping, hook farming, sandbagging, betrayal (survivor giving away my position in a locker), and so on. However, camping is a survivor-created problem and has a solution: rush gens. If survivors were willing to bite the bullet just this once, it'd make a better game for everyone.

Well yeah given the context of a story, which you and I already touched on, but the quote you provided "only men are capable of being killers" was a general broad statement. As if that's some kind of stigma or a bad thing

That's not a quote, it's a cliché in most art forms. That's why I put the words "cliché we see in most art forms" after that.

I am portuguese and the other n word you were mentioned isn't even the default word for black. There are literally nothing stopping them from blocking slurs.

But it is a racist way to refer to black people in English. The issue with filters like these is that if you try to cover even just a handful of languages, you'll end up with words that are censored for seemingly no reason.

    @Orion

First off, that was a response to someone else. So please calm down.

Second, it was but it is not what I am talking about. They based it off of a chase, correct?

This isn’t that. This is legitimately a killer standing in stationary position, with no other survivor in sight. Period.

I agree with you on some things, but this is not one of them, and especially when I feel that you keep repeating the same thing without substantial evidence of a different idea than what was tested. Did that test include another survivor not being in sight? Again... no it did not.

If memory serves, they based it off of proximity. However, regardless of how they did it, the problem arose because survivors could force killers to stand near the hook without they themselves being in any danger. Survivors can reveal their positions without actually being in sight via scratch marks and noise bubbles, for example.

The problem with the idea has to do with its core concept: punishing the killer during the trial for being near the hook. That's what the test showed. No amount of "what if they try X" can change that.

If they weren't easy to find, why were the forums flooded with posts about them within minutes of them being released?

Look - your blind defense isn't working. Come up with actual counters, or knock it off.

If they were easy to find, how come they weren't widespread?

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

    @Golden_spider

As I stated before if you are a survivor outside of 15 meters it would force the killer to chase you which is the entire point of the penalty system.

If you are doing it to bait the killer so that another survivor goes for the save, the effect will automatically stop.

I don’t understand how that is abusing exactly? If the killer chooses to stay at the hook and not move beyond 15 meters to chase then that is camping. It’s no different than if you weren’t there.

I’ll say it again in case it wasn’t clear enough. Another survivor would HAVE to enter the 15 meters in order for them to unhook, at which point the effect will not proc. If the killer has been inside those 15 mins for some time, they have no intention to chase anyone else. If there is only one survivor and they are just “hanging out” outside of 15 mins, killer could just move too and wait, now the survivor is wasting time and the survivor on the hook is not getting a buff for being camped.

Listen, that was literally attempted and failed. There's no arguing with objective test data. What more do you want for you to accept that the idea is just bad?

Where did I claim a majority experience these issues? I'm very careful with my words, bud. I would never make a claim I can't fully back up with metrics like you do. I said these bugs were EASY TO FIND. I made no mention of a majority. Take your strawman elsewhere.

If they were easy to find, then it stands to reason they were widespread. Or did you mean they were "very easy to find" if you had very specific specs and that's why they only affected a minority of players and are actually very difficult for the devs to find?

  • You guys think there's people that just go around being mean every match regardless of what you do?

Yes, absolutely. Don't pay attention to them and don't accept friend requests from them either.

  • @SloppyKnockout said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1384133#Comment_1384133

They may not be representative of the community - but it's more evidence and metric than you can provide.

Plus, it wasn't just the forums. Reputable members of the community (even fog whisperers) mentioned these things within the first hour of their streams.

    OhTofu, ScottJund, Bronx, Umbra etc.

So again - keep telling me how "most people don't experience these issues" with absolutely zero evidence or metrics.

I don't care who reported it, I'm asking you for metrics that show they represent a majority, which would actually prove that the bugs are prevalent enough to be easily detected. I'm going to assume you can't, or you would've done so by now.

  • @SloppyKnockout said:

Yes, I do. Literally minutes after the patch AND events were released, this ######### was found and pointed out.

It was all over the forums.

The forums are not representative of the community. You know that threads and sometimes entire forums turn into echo chambers very easily. But if you have the numbers, let's see them.

  • Bug, unless he was actually using Ghostface's power during the trial.

  • @SloppyKnockout said:

Most people? Do you have metrics on that?

Provide metrics, or don't spout numbers.

No, I don't. Do you have metrics to prove that these bugs are easily found?

Let's assume that only 0,1% of all players affected by bugs take the time to report them. That means that the bug report threads you see with half a dozen upvotes (and keep in mind I'm exaggerating big time when I say "half a dozen") could represent about 6000 people with the same issue. On Steam alone, there's over 10x that number of players during peak times.

Since you're in the industry, do you have information on how many players report the bugs they encounter, percentage-wise?

  • @SloppyKnockout said:

I didn't say you were a laymen; and you didn't even come close to refuting me. You used a generalized statement, which does not apply to this specific case.

Look man, I'm not trying to be an ######### or insult you here. The issue the community has is that this ######### never stops. Yes, software has bugs, but even YOU have to admit that a lot of the bugs DBD tends to contract (for lack of a better term) are GLARINGLY obvious within the first few minutes of playing to the point of "How in the hell did that make it passed QA?". Much like the event bugs we're experiencing now (look at me staying on topic! WOOT!).

From the sound bugs (which is literally every other patch), to the Wraith/Spirit lunge bugs, to the Hag/Freddy bugs last patch. Like, these are all things that took seconds for people who actually play the game to notice. So an adequate amount of actual play testing would have, or SHOULD have been enough if they actually put any effort into it. This is all furthered by the fact, and issue that they have open beta tests for big releases (PTB) and 9/10 times, the live version inherits literally all the bugs in the PTB, whether or not they are game breaking. Like for example - the current sound issues, the balance issues on the new map, and remember the basement hook glitch back when Oni was released that took them 2 weeks AFTER live to fix, even though it had been reported in the PTB 3 weeks PRIOR to release?

It's just a never ending cycle of "#########" moments at this point, and all you seem to be doing is trying to find ways to justify them, or defend them somehow, when they are beyond defending at this point.

Here's the thing about sound bugs, or even most of the bugs you see mentioned on the forum: most people don't have them. The forum is not representative of the playerbase because people are more likely to complain when their play time is interrupted than they are to interrupt their play time on their own and just to come here and say "all is well".

I have criticized the devs plenty, including for them not fixing bugs that I myself reported during the PTBs and the generally lackluster anniversary event compared to how hyped up it was. However, I also defend them when I think the complaints about them are unreasonable. You can disagree with me, but don't assume your perception of them is objective or that it's the only one that matters.

You, and everyone else who agrees that the devs are "beyond defending at this point", is free to stop supporting them whenever you choose. To me, the fact that the game has grown is proof that the bugs everyone keeps complaining about are only affecting a small number of players. Don't let the forums fool you into thinking they're bigger problems than they really are.

Two classes. Big rep to you bud.

I'm a 6th year programming and production assistant at Ubisoft Montreal. Started just before Assassin's Creed Unity was released (which was itself riddled with bugs - and still not to the point DBD is). You sure you want measure ePeens here?

Not measuring anything, you're the one who wanted to dismiss what I'm saying because you think I'm a layman. If you didn't want me to refute you, then you shouldn't have brought it up.

Also, I corrected the comment, it was technically 5 in total, with two of those focusing on very specific things.

  • @SloppyKnockout said:

Bugs happen with every piece of software - correct.

The ISSUE here is, BHVR and to a lesser extent (which is actually hard to fathom) Bethesda are the only companies that seem to consistently release patch after patch after patch with at least 1 game breaking bug in it. BHVR is also the company who CONSISTENTLY breaks sound at least a few times a year, and are one of like 2 companies who hold OPEN BETA's and DO NOT FIX THE REPORTED ISSUES. DBD's patches literally release with more issues than Batman: Arkham Knight on PC did in 2015; and as others have said, they're anniversary event literally being broken is the cherry on the proverbial cake.

You are blatantly ignoring actual evidence in favor of just blindly defending their lacking QA and trying to justify it. You have no logic to stand on here, and you can't win this. You're literally just quoting things you googled. "All software has bugs".

I literally took two different classes about programming, but OK.

EDIT: My bad, it was actually three, with two more focused on specific aspects of programming and its use in solving mathematical problems and physical simulations, both of which are also applied to games.

And secondly, why is 5 minutes to completely negate a survivor's progress on a gen pitiful?

300 seconds to completely negate 80 seconds of progress. You do the math.

I'd assume it would be the survivor that tbagged and pointed because the last killer tunnelled and camped but he only did that because the last group of survivors bullied him while t-bagging and pointing but they only did that because the last killer....etc etc etc

Yes, there is. I've been here since launch and I know for a fact survivors started the toxicity. Then killers responded in kind. Now we're here.

  • This has been mentioned a lot.

  • There isn't much point in discussing the origin of this toxic whirlpool as it'll just turn into the chicken or the egg scenario.

@ermsy Not really, no. There is an objective answer to the origin of the issue, it's just that most people don't like to hear it.

If it were just one or two bugs every now or then, instead of literally something game breaking every patch, then it wouldn't be a big issue.

The event being completely bugged into oblivion, like you said, is insult to injury. At this point I find it hard to believe some of this isn't intentional and they secretly laugh at is behind the scenes.

I don't feel entitled to some super fun experience just because it's june, but at this point It's just embarrassing.

I can't help but feel if they had some real competition for this game on the market, a lot of these shortcomings just straight up wouldn't be allowed to happen.

Yes, every patch has bugs. This happens with every piece of software ever made. Have you done any programming? Bug squashing is a #########.

  • @SloppyKnockout said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1383835#Comment_1383835

"Things go wrong" is a bit of an understatement.

Hell, look at the sound issues. You guys LITERALLY had those in your patch notes listed as "fixed"...and they released more broken than they were before. We're not talking about minor bugs that all games seem to have. We're talking about things that are GLARINGLY obvious to the point where a blindfolded, stuck in a closet with the lights off Stevie Wonder would notice within 5 minutes of playing. We'd understand if they were just minor things, but the stuff BHVR somehow allows through QA is nonsense. This event is just the cherry on the cake.

You can say BHVR play tests all you want - there's absolutely zero evidence to that. Unless they play test, see the bugs, and simply don't care to fix them on time. This is evidenced by the fact that the community TOLD you about all the issues in the PTB...3 weeks before the patch...and it somehow still released that way.

So I repeat - if they do play test, they do a lackluster job; and we have enough hard evidence to say that's an actual fact at this point.

I didn't experience any sound bugs, nor did the majority of players. Bugs that are hard to track down are hard to fix, and people who were experiencing them were very hostile to those of us who weren't and refused to cooperate and share system information to help the devs figure out what was going on.

What you're saying, about there being no evidence of play testing, is called "survival bias". You see the bugs that weren't caught by QA, so you conclude that these are all the bugs that exist and no bugs were ever caught by QA. Do you seriously think BHVR would spend money hiring play testers if they didn't intend to play test to begin with?

  • Yes, reports do something, assuming you're reporting people who actually break the rules and not just someone who camped or teabagged or whatever.

  • That's not a playstyle, that's someone rage quitting. Quitting is literally the opposite of playing.

    @Orion

I’m not exactly sure how it was abused, but I imagine you mean survivors were just hovering around the hook.

By not having the survivor around the hook the killer is getting a penalty, much like if you try to vault a window multiple times the window gets entity blocked.

As I said, if survivors are being reckless and just “dancing” around the hook, then yes nothing should change. it would remain the same as it is now.

They were hovering around the hook at such a distance that chase conditions wouldn't trigger and that if the killer were to commit to chasing either of them, the other would get a free unhook.

The mechanic was demonstrably an abject failure due to the survivors' abuse of it. There is no solution that would fix this without requiring too much work to be worthwhile.

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

What if the timer activated if no other survivor is nearby within those 15 meters?

This way the other survivors wouldn’t just be reckless and run around the hook.

Wouldn't change anything. The way it was abused proved one very simple fact: debuffing the killer for being near the hooked survivor will not work.

^ This is actual facts. And a seriously overlooked comment on this thread.

The only reason that there are more male killers than female killers is because of the licensed killers. If you count up only the original killers male to female it becomes an 8:6 ratio or simplified 4:3.

Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Doc, Clown, Legion, Oni, Deathslinger

Nurse, Hag, Huntress, Spirit, Legion, Plague

Making the disparity in all reality, not that wide

And on a personal note, sorry that guys are naturally villains and females are the heroic "final girls" especially in horror slasher? Is... is that something we should be angry about?

Something like this better not stand in the way of future licensed characters like Pennywise, Pinhead, Candyman, Jason etc. or I'm gonna lose my sh*t.

And on a personal note, sorry that guys are naturally villains and females are the heroic "final girls" especially in horror slasher? Is... is that something we should be angry about?

Angry about? No, which is why nobody here is angry about it. Aim to change it? Yes, because I think we all like stories that aren't 100% predictable.

  • It is if survivors reward it (which they do most of the time).

  • @MegMain98 said:

I personally enjoy the female killers more because they typically have cooler powers, an intriguing backstory, and are very well designed. Not saying the male killers aren’t but the female ones just look better IMO.

For the females you have a killer who can go through walls, a ghost who can go invisible, a priestess who vomits on you, a grandma who can teleport to a different body, and a Russian who sings a lullaby and chucks hatchets.

I wouldn’t want more female killers just for the sake of them being female but I’d want more females because they just seem better to me than most of the male killers.

Too true. Anna (Huntress) is probably the biggest badass in the entire roster, taking out armed soldiers with crude weapons and living on her own in the middle of nowhere after her mother died. As for the men, well, once you've heard about one crazy guy who killed a bunch of people because of mommy and/or daddy issues or just plain sadism/evil, you've heard about them all.

  • The thread was moved anyway, despite me explaining I was looking for user feedback to then provide the devs with a more refined idea, so I edited the OP to reflect that.

  • It's your offering, use it however you want.

  • Obviously not, it's run by humans. But it's still better than not sending a report and expecting those people to go away anyway.

The report system isn't good even if reported.

Like I said, they ask for a user ID. You need to get to the person's steam link to get that ID, which isn't even available in post-game chat anymore, Good luck trying to find a common name on steam.

That's only if you wanna send in additional information, which is not required for the vast majority of offenses.

I've actually used the report system, so I know how it works.

  • @Marigoria said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1383407#Comment_1383407

I'm talking as someone who hasn't filed a single report in 3k hours, but I do see a lot of slurs being used in both lobby and post game chat.

I actually like that idea, I would change the slurs for compliments though, n word could translate to something like "awesome" or "beautiful", a random complimentary word could be used, or even just change it to a "gg"

Yeah, the mods don't act on reports that are never filed in the first place. Kinda hard to have a good report system when people don't report.

  • Already tried and abused by survivors.

  • Reports are read and acted upon depending on the internal parameters that the mods use. I'm guessing that "don't always work" means "the mods don't ban everyone I report", which is normal. Also, a bug is no reason to develop and implement an entirely new feature. It's far easier to just fix the bug.

With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing a filter for common slurs.

I would especially love it if the filter were troll-y in nature and replaced common slurs with sentences showing support for the people whom those slurs are supposed to denigrate. So for the N word, for example, you could have it be replaced with "black people are awesome", or something to that effect. Of course, I understand if I'm alone in finding stuff like that hilarious.

  • That's a bug.
