  • Can't speak for other platforms, but on Steam if you have your profile and game details set to public then anyone can see when you're playing Dead by Daylight and press the "Join Game" button on your Steam profile.

Dead by Daylight has its own party privacy settings however (under Settings > Online). You can toggle between Private, Friends Only and Public.

If both your Steam profile and DbD Party Privacy are set to Public, then anyone can join your lobby AFAIK.

  • Probably the nachos you get at the cinema. With extra jalapeños!

  • I’m a little biased, but Onryō!

Her and Yoichi have a bunch of cosmetics on DbD mobile but for some reason, they get nothing on the core game.

A blighted cosmetic for Onryō would be awesome.

  • To my knowledge, BHVR have not given an official stance on this. Although I'd imagine it's a "use at your own risk" scenario, the same with custom perk icons and macros.

In other words, I doubt the developers are going to go out of their way to ban people using it but if Easy Anti-Cheat detects something amiss and automatically bans you, the developers won't help you to get unbanned.

  • Onryō, for a few reasons:

    • Her visual and sound design are phenomenal. For me, Sadako Rising easily has the best aesthetics of any Chapter. BHVR stayed faithful to the Ring franchise, including iconic elements like Sadako crawling from the well and emerging from TVs, but also put a unique spin on it with their own version of Yoichi and the cursed tape. Overall, Ring translated into the game very well (excuse the pun, I couldn't resist).
    • The Ring franchise is my favourite horror series, so naturally I was very excited to be able to play as some of my favourite characters!
    • She's fun to play and play against (at least to me). Condemned adds a necessary secondary objective for survivors (which is a nice break from holding M1 on generators), as well as adds another dimension to playing killer.
  • The only time Flashlights bother me is when I'm playing at night. The sudden brightness when you get blinded is a little harsh on the eyes but that's more a problem with DbD's lack of accessibility options than it is Flashlights themselves.

They should just have an option to make the screen go dark instead of light during a blind.

    Let me correct your title

    "Borgo is terrible for everyone"

I've already made a post talking about this map, this is the worst map that they ever created

    Borgo is terrible for everyone

Agreed. Easily one of the most horrendous maps ever released. Huge map, safe pallets everywhere, clutter everywhere, bad collisions, debris that inteferes with scratch marks, orange colour grading that camouflages blood and scratch marks...

It's just bad on every front.

Maybe not, but when a large percentage of a player base unanimously agree they hate this killer and think she’s garbage, is it not good sense to do something about it?

Survivors hate versing her and most killers probably never bothered investing in the chapter because why world they? Surely that indicates something is up?

is it not good sense to do something about it?

Definitely. Thankfully BHVR are aware of the issue and are planning on reworking her:

She is getting an update. We are currently trying to determine when that can go out - stay tuned. 2. Her most oppressive games tend toward the 3-gen strategy. This is problematic in our game as a whole, but especially against certain killers (Skull Merchant being the most egregious). We are currently working on a systematic solution to deal with 3-gen games, which will ALSO help with playing against the Skull Merchant.

Taken from the 7th June AMA, linked here.

The only issue is when this rework is going to come out. BHVR are notoriously slow when it comes to this kind of thing.

  • Disliking playing against something is not grounds for it being killswitched.

Is she horribly designed? Yes. But from a technical standpoint, she's functioning as intended and doesn't need killswitched.

  • The issue is unfortunately not exclusive to Dead Dawg Saloon. It can be done with any lockers on any map it seems.

  • I don't think it needs the slowdown at all to be honest.

Being able to cleanse a totem or open a chest silently is not a particularly big advantage.

  • Yeah I've given up playing for the day. Trying to play as killer is pointless right now, and playing survivor isn't much better given that my teammates would rather spend the majority of the match phasing into objects.

It needs patched ASAP, and if they can't fix it quickly then kill-switch flashlights until it is fixed.

4 hooks first kill is 100% tunneling but over that it really just depends.

4 hooks means the killer has hooked someone else, other than the person dying on hook. Ergo not tunnelling in my opinion.

  • At least to me, tunneling is incessantly targeting the same survivor. The key word being "incessant". I.e. without interruption. If you go and chase, injure, or hook other survivors, it's not tunneling as far as I'm concerned.

  • Just had a teammate do this all game on RPD. The poor Freddy literally could not kill her. This is gamebreaking to be honest.

  • Yes! Please stop doing this.

There's nothing more frustrating than running all the way for a hook save just for a teammate to send themselves onto second stage. I'm left wondering why I even bothered leaving my generator behind for this.

Arguably, I find it even more annoying when they manage to unhook themselves in your face, because now I can't heal you fast with We'll Make It, don't get any Bloodpoints or emblem points for the rescue, AND my unhook challenges are going to take another match to complete.

I don't know how or why this got popularised, but it's grating and I wish it would stop.

Finally, I didn't think I would live long enough to see this day. I hope it isn't just a "Shadowborn Tier 1" FOV increase, but good to hear.

It's 7 years overdue in my opinion, but I'm happy we're getting it regardless!

  • Until yesterday, I actually hadn't encountered any hackers for quite a long time. At least, none that I was aware of.

Yesterday I was chasing a Claudette and thought she was suspiciously fast. Although given how many perks there are now that affect movement speed, I assumed I was just projecting because the match was going badly. Although my suspicions were pretty much confirmed later in the game when a generator that I had JUST checked (and had NO progress) popped like 10 seconds after I left it.

Checked in post-game, and there were no toolboxes, no Potential Energy, no Fast Track etc. so yeah someone was definitely subtle hacking.

  • image.png

Taken from the June AMA over on r/Dead by Daylight; linked here.

  • I'd love to see Candyman and The Grudge in DbD.

Jeepers Creepers is a confirmed no from BHVR though.

  • There should absolutely be some kind of reward for reaching the higher prestiges.

The fact that you get absolutely nothing for dedicating so much time and energy to a character is ludicrous. I don't even know why they bothered to add 100 tiers to the prestige system, when only the first 9 are actually relevant.

It doesn't have to be anything big. Just something, anything -- even if its just a few Bloodpoints or Iridescent Shards -- would be nice to acknowledge the work you've put in. Ideally, a charm or cosmetic, but I'd genuinely be happy with anything.

Currently prestiging actually annoys me -- I hate having to waste 20,000 BPs and then have to wait for the annoying prestige animation to pop up before I can continue levelling.

    • Separating the queues splits the playerbase and results in longer matchmaking times for everyone.
    • There's no way to stop people from try-harding in a casual mode. DbD mobile has a separate ranked and casual queue and you still encounter survivors bringing multiple BNPs, and killers facecamping their first hook in a casual match.
    • Separating the queues would take up unnecessary development time that would be better spent elsewhere.

Overall this would be a net negative. I'm all for a perk randomiser though.

  • I figure I should probably derank my mmr

Deranking your MMR is mostly a myth. Upon reaching 1,600+ MMR you're essentially going to stay in that bracket. Players in the Top Skill Bracket are protected against significant MMR losses, meaning you can lose numerous ranked trials in a row without much decrease to your MMR.

    Most are swf too

People tend to overestimate the number of SWFS they face. Not saying you definitely don't face a lot of SWFs, it's just something to keep in mind.

Most games I won I could not pip given how good the survivors were doing gens

Gatekeeper can be a tricky emblem to get. The emblem earns points based upon how many generators are unrepaired for the first 9 minutes of the match, as well as if the trial ends with the exit gates closed. Corrupt Intervention and No Way Out are both very good and consistent perks that could help you out with this emblem.

twice someone bleeded out while I slugged to 4K when gens were done

Slugging is counterproductive if you're trying to get good emblems. Bleedouts provide no points towards the Devout emblem. Taking the hooks is almost always a better option if you're playing for emblems and not kills.

advancing to red grades is imposible

It's definitely hard but not impossible. The pip system is frustrating and oftentimes counterintuitive, so getting to Iridescent Grades can feel like an uphill battle. But if you keep at it you'll definitely get there!

Should I just focus getting kills

My advice would be to take a look at the Wiki (linked here) to understand exactly how each emblem works. Knowing what actions earn you emblem points will help you make more informed choices on where to put your focus and efforts in a match. Confirming kills and ending matches quickly is often at odds with getting good emblems. It can be boring and tedious but dealing out lots of damage, and making the match least 9 minutes are the keys to pipping consistently IMO. Because of this, killers like Legion and Skull Merchant tend to get good emblems with relative consistency.

The second part is factually wrong. Can't tell you how many unhooks I have interrupted at got a down thanks to STBFL before the survivor could unhook properly. Hook grabs gone doesn't = you can't interrupt the unhooker. :)

Actually I'm not "factually wrong". You can run the numbers and check. Any downs you're getting this way are due to survivors fumbling.

Unhooking takes 1.5 seconds. At full STBFL stacks, the cooldown is 1.62 seconds -- enough time to pull of an unhook.

Not to mention that if the obsession is the one doing the unhooking, you'd lose 2 stacks and the cooldown would be 1.89 seconds.

Garden of Joy main building in general just needs to be reworked. Most maps compared to how they were before feel much better to play on for both sides… so I feel overall BL 2 and 3 can still go.

Main problem with STBFL is the gaining stacks by a hooked survivor. A lot of players don’t use STBFL for chase and instead use it to proxy around a hook earlish game so if there was a way for them to lose stacks with 16 metres around a hook then I’m fine with it.

    • STBFL provides little to no value in the early game unless the survivors are just playing terribly and getting hit every other second.
    • STBFL doesn't have much impact when it comes to hook camping. Now that hook grabs are gone, you can still get a trade-off even if the killer has full STBFL stacks.
  • Yes please!

It's always irked me that despite being the same category of perk, they have different activation requirements. The long cooldowns are annoying too, but them triggering under opposite circumstances is so unnecessarily confusing.

    • Bloodlust 1, and at a stretch 2, is still necessary for M1 killers due to bad map design. There are some loops (i.e. Garden of Joy main building) that would just take too long for killers like Shape to catch up at if Bloodlust was removed.
    • Bloodlust 3 can go -- anyone who is regularly getting Bloodlust Tier 3 is pathing very badly and shouldn't be rewarded for it.
    • STBFL is a strong perk but it's only particularly effective on the weaker killers. Killers who hit with special attacks (like Nurse and Blight) don't get any real value from it but on someone like Pig it's kind of necessary. Nerfing it, especially without buffing the M1 killers, seems like a bad idea to me.
  • Yawn

Another cosmetic that I was initially excited for but will not be buying because it's locked as a set for some reason.

  • I genuinely cannot understand how 7 years into this game, maps are still being designed with these problems…

  • All they said was that they aren't a fan of Jonah's new voice. I wouldn't even call that a hill to be honest.

  • @Nirgendwohin said:

From a survivor perspective, they're doing next to nothing

The problem I'm having is my teammates keep picking them up, walking across half the map incredibly slowly and then putting them down in random places.

  • I much prefer the reworked version to be honest. The PTB chase music was really bad.

  • @Lixadonna said:

How much Survivor nerfing until Killers are happy enough. Constant Survivor nerfing to appease Killer base not a good look.

Can we stop with this? After 7 years, it’s getting incredibly tiring…

The vast majority of updates bring nerfs and buffs to both sides. It seems you’re conveniently leaving out the fact Knight and Demogorgon had some of their best add-ons nerfed this patch too.

The thing that isn’t a good look is people selectively picking out the patch notes to make it seem like their preferred role is marginalised and treated unfairly every update.

Yea like all those people complaining about Windows on the forums and now it's likely going to be nerfed, such constructive discussion.

I’m not saying I agree with the nerf, but people providing reasoned arguments as to why a perk should or shouldn’t be changed is the very definition of constructive discussion.

Going into threads with the mentality of “Well this survivor perk got nerfed so I’m not going to listen to anything killer players have to say.” is not constructive discussion. All it does is raise tensions and lead to hostility.

  • @Seanzu said:

Never going to listen to another killer complaining about their perks being nerfed when something like Windows gets nerfed LMAO

This is exactly the kind of attitude that prevents meaningful and constructive discussions from taking place on these forums.

It’s a shame that so many people seem preoccupied waging the us vs them wars and the “who has it worse” Olympics.

  • When she's running Sloppy Butcher I call her The Slop Merchant.

  • Yes.

I main Onryō and she has a whitish overlay while Demanifested that makes the game look brighter and more washed out. In most instances, this is fine but on some of the realms it's far too bright (Coldwind Farm and Eyrie of Crows). I use filters to darken it and make it tolerable.

  • I find it a little hard to believe you've been slugged out every match you've played over the past three days...

  • @Archael said:

Game was designed with coulours, brightness, and visibility in mind. Anything (including making game less dark) is cheating. Equipping dark clothes and hide in a bush is one of game aspects and those filters ruin it. Same for sounds.

And also. Allowing game to run with external programs is an invitation for even less "subtle" cheaters who also operates on external programs.

My opinion is extreme, i know it. But IMO, game should block ALL external programs while launched, including discord, swf should not exist, and game should be balanced against soloq.

Maybe in privat matches, with bot or invited killers, swf should exist along with other programs.

Allowing game to run with external programs

Except you don't actually need external programs for this. It's certainly more convenient to use something like NVIDIA but software isn't a necessity. Most modern monitors, TVs, phones etc. come with built-in customisation for the display. It's pretty standard to be able to manually adjust brightness, sharpness, contrast, exposure, and temperature -- which is all most players use filters for. You can't ban players for customising settings that are built into their hardware. It's just nonsensical...

Using this logic, I'm a cheater because when I used to play on PS4, I upped the brightness and contrast of my TV 🤷

  • Remove NVIDIA filters and I literally won’t be able to play the game anymore 🤷

There are some maps that I need to brighten to avoid eye strain (e.g. Autohaven Wreckers and Decimated Borgo).

And there are maps that I need to darken to prevent me getting migraines (Coldwind Farm and Eyrie of Crows).

If they had consistent light levels and colour palettes throughout the maps, or robust in-game options then I wouldn’t need them. But prior to discovering filters, I could only tolerate DbD (on the reworked maps anyways) for a short time.

Until DbD has better accessibility options, filters need to stay.

  • The mobile cosmetics consistently impress me more than the core game to be honest.

  • @CrypticGirl said:

She's a licensed character, so her chances of getting cosmetics are very slim.

    @Venusa said:

I think it's not about a "should she?" but a "could she?".

I'm sure they would want to give her more but with licensed characters it's always a struggle since they can't just design something and put it up without agreements etc.

But ofcourse every licensed character deserves more love.

She has cosmetics on the mobile version of the game, multiple of them in fact -- as does Yoichi. The mobile survivors also got Ring-themed T-shirts with VHS tapes on them to promote the chapter.

The license holders are clearly happy for her to receive cosmetics, BHVR just hasn't for some reason.

The reporting system is ridiculous, it is a lot of work and we never see results. I think most players have stopped putting in the effort. There should be an automated in game button to hit which would automatically capture and notify. Or simply have a button which immidiately notifies Behaviour this game has cheating going on so they can watch in real time; folks abusing the button would get banned like a dc penalty. It just seems the cheaters are smarter than the developers at this point.

There should be an automated in game button to hit which would automatically capture and notify.

This would be the ideal scenario.

Although apparently it's not possible due to how the game was originally coded. I can't remember where it was mentioned, but someone (who I think was on the team) has previously commented that a built-in replay system would be impossible to implement without remaking the game from the ground up.

The current system isn't really good enough IMO, but I guess it's what we're stuck with 🤷‍♂️

  • My preferred role is killer but I play whichever role has the matchmaking incentive. For me, that works out at about playing a 50/50 split of both roles.

  • @stvnhthr said:

Done that and got the same cheatbot a week later. So what can be done?

Reports can take some time to process. They might've just not got around to it yet. In the mean time, there's nothing else you can do. If you've issued an in-game report and provided evidence of the offence then the rest is up to BHVR.

I should say that I personally am not very fond of DbD's reporting system. Most players are not going to record all of their matches on the off chance of encountering a cheater. And the need for video evidence alienates platforms where recording is not easy to do. Ideally, DbD would have some sort of capture system or logs of the match built-in.

I also think that the reporting process is needlessly convoluted and confusing. Why do giving Props and issuing a report use the same button? Why are the in-game descriptions of the offence categories so misleading? Why is there no button to copy your DbD Cloud ID? Why do I have to upload the video evidence to external file sharing sites? The whole thing feels long winded and outdated. The recently-added report feedback is nice, but doesn't solve the core issues with the system.

    1. File an in-game report by selecting the "thumb up and thumb down" icon next to the player's name in the post-game tally. Select the appropriate category and write a brief description of what happened. E.g. "The killer was teleporting."
    2. Open a ticket at support.deadbydaylight.com to provide video evidence of the cheating.
    3. If your report leads to action being taken, you'll be notified when loading up the game after said action is taken.

You can read more about the process here and here.

Reporting in Dead by Daylight is, unfortunately, a slow process and a lot of people decide it isn't worth the hassle. Personally, I only report things like serious harassment or death threats. Hacking is definitely annoying but I stopped recording my matches a while ago because it was tanking my performance and taking up storage.

  • I use filters to darken the game on Eyrie of Crows and Coldwind Farm. They're just too bright otherwise. I genuinely cannot play on them without filters. Scratch marks are too hard to see and I get strained eyes from switching from the dark maps into them.

  • I don't know if it's just me, but the screenshots you provided don't look blurry to me -- they look like normal Dead by Daylight.

  • I wish there was an option to freeze a character's animations in the store.

Oni constatly roaring and Spirit phasing her weapon out of existence make it really hard to preview cosmetics.
