  • No point trying to understand it. I tried but it's impossible. A game can't survive purely on mutual hatred of another game. Both games can coexist and everyone can enjoy them just fine.

So normally Im not against representation as long as its fair and not overdone. Unfortunately, and these are just my feelings, but I feel like LGBT representation is way overdone. We make up less than 10% of the population in total and yet we are in EVERYTHING. Painfully so. To the point that to make sure that a gay character is included they gotta hit all the stereotypes. And although Im happy that BHVR did listen to the people that were against adding a gay character for fear of stereotypes and instead just took an existing one and made them gay, it was still against the wishes of many that didnt want inclusion at all like myself. Im here to play a game.

That being said though, part of my current gripe is that years ago I predicted todays current events in regards to LGBT representation and acceptance and tried to warn people. But here we are. The LGBT community is at its lowest in years in terms of societal acceptance and its because society pushed us to the front of EVERYTHING and people were tired of it.

I still hold out that theyll just focus on making it balanced. But I dont think itll happen. And I hope they eventually start making skins again for David if you enjoy playing him. Sorry we are both in a ######### situation. And to OP as well.

1 survivor out of 39 is part of the LGBTQ+ community. Just 1. That's hardly the "front of everything."

The thing with nightlight is that since its a website that appeals to more competitive people you'll get stats from the higher MMR's.

Its blatantly obvious that self-care and spinechill aren't perks you see in mid to high MMR lobbies even though according to "official stats" you should expect to see it fairly often.

Dismissing nightlight because it doesn't include stats from the low MMR bracket where nobody knows what they are doing resulting in worthless data, is just intelectual dishonesty.

Mid to high MMR is the only valuable dataset since thats where people become effecient and know how to optimize the game and abuse perks/game mechanics, and that just so happens to be the crowd nightlight appeals to.

Nightlight is also only likely used by those who speak English. So alot of the worldwide playerbase wouldn't contribute, just mostly western players.

  • I have 100% survivor during the day and 100% killer late at night. It depends on MMR and region so it's not the same for everyone.

I have a photo I took when I changed platforms, that showed my new low MMR acc had 100% killer while my older mid MMR acc had 100% survivor. Both at the same time.

  • Decent or better survivors *should* be harder to go against. Luckily, most of the player base are average. And watching streamers play the PTB, most were quickly dealing with the flamethrowers as easily as they'd swat away flies. I'm planning to play Xeno quite a bit and the flamethrowers are a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. Hit them and keep going.

  • I've noticed an increase. I do every totem I come across now

  • They only shared the killrates last year to show the intended outcome of the 6.1 overhaul. The goal was killerates at 60% and they showed that they were successful. I dunno if they have a reason to share them again.

It also depends on the MMR as well, I'm in low teir atm but in my killer games I see survivors 3/4-genning themselves quite a bit by acident the only gen regression I run is Jolt and Corupt. In survivor, its a different story, like sure sometimes we 3-gen ourselves because soloQ madness and beginner mistakes, but at least 85% of the time it's the killers who have hard camped a 3-gen from the start.

In the survivor games I've played over the last couple of months, I've seen it twice in a row on lery's (back three gens if the basement spawns in main room), twice on Lampkin Lane (same back corner one in the house, one in the basement and one in the street), five times on Dead Dawg (Gallows, Salloon, the gen that spawns between gallows and saloon and Prospectors camp (back corner near the tent)) and twice on GoJ (one in shack, one near the train car and then one in that back corner) Each time the killers for those games would just run between those gens, would never chase far enough to make a dent in a gen before they'd prance on back and kick the gen with w/e gen regression perk they have equiped (Brine, OC, Pop, Ruin) then just continue patrollig while the survivors just slowly dwindled down because we couldnt do anything.

Now sometimes we'd get lucky and break the three gen, but more often than not we'd all be on death hook so it would all be for naught, maybe one of us would get hatch but that was kinda rare.

Sorry for the wall of text.

That's a good point. I probably see less of it nowadays because it happens more among newer players than it does more experienced ones.

It's actually not that difficult to tell when someone is using Plot Twist if you're paying attention to the hud. If they're injured and you see the little claws wiggling around their portrait, and they scream as they go down, you know they went down legitimately. If they suddenly go down with no claws or scream, chances are they're using Plot Twist. (Or if they suddenly go down with no scream while someone else has the wiggling claws around their portrait, then it's an easy assumption that they're using Plot Twist.)

Sometimes it happens too fast to be sure, and sometimes if you're distracted it can be easy to miss. I was in struggle stage on hook - so focusing on my skill checks - and a Gabriel was being chased by a killer who had tried slugging a few times during the game. When he went down across the map I assumed he was hit. When he didn't get picked up I assumed the killer was going for the slug. When I got unhooked I made a beeline for him but he, thankfully, jumped up just before I reached him. I think it couldn't hurt to make the aura a different colour or something.

    Nowhere...?

Aside from a few missteps, the game's been overall improving over the past two years or so.

I agree. There's been changes for sure, some minor and some major, but change isn't always for the worst. Some people though don't cope well with change - just a fact, not a judgement.

  • They need to change the aura colour maybe of the person with it. I almost picked up someone with it yesterday, as he went down while I was on hook and I thought the killer was slugging so ran to him after I got unhooked. He jumped up just as I reached him and I realised then.

  • I don't think her perks are anything special. I think there's some fun to be had with Chemical Trap but that's about it. I'll be buying Ripley just because I love her, i don't think I'll get much use out of her perks though.

More than 6 killers are "generally played"

Here is my last 2 months of survivor matches

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/AG8RXDH2BJTZ/image.png

there are a few outliers (hag, freddy, twins, demo, artist, wesker) but other than that there is a pretty good variety of killers.

Here is a chart with wesker excluded so that the other killers bars appear more visually distinct

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/C905IE2KOG82/image.png

Sure some killers are not as popular, but its not exessivly so and I would say WAY more than 6 killers are "generally played"

Here is nightlight's general data fromt he past 28 days

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/2N4AP06P0WWD/image.png

From a sample of 26,500 games we see that the top 6 killers have a combined 33.45% of the play rate. This is quite a bit more than the % of the roster than they take up (about 19%) but not excessivly so and frankly wesker is such an outlier that he alone makes it seem worse than it is.

Can I ask what program you used? I keep track of my games and wouldn't mind seeing my own stats.

  • Yeah some people have too much time on their hands. If everyone is there then my mind is already on the next game

that's weird because killer plans around 3 gens and actively looks to force them. the term often used is that killer is playing territorial. survivors just describe it as camping killer....

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3523378#Comment_3523378

killer already do abuse that whenever new map rework happens. 3 gens is like way for killer to reject playing the map because too strong....

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3523385#Comment_3523385

i am not sure about that. those 2 gens are pretty spread out. you can probably just have 1 survivor stand in hallways to say when the killer is coming. the rest of the team can do yoyoing strategy on both gens as killer goes from one end of hallway to the other end of hallway similar to team eternal game on torment creek. torment creek gens are way closer together then that long elementary school hallway. it takes way more time for killer to kick those gens. elementary school is annoying for killer. hallways are way too annoying.

The term has changed, or really expanded, in meaning since the gen kick meta. I've been playing for a few years and I remember for the longest time that anytime there was a 3 gen in my survivor games, it was at the end of the game and it was us survivors that caused it. I find nowadays, survivors tend to be more conscious of creating 3 gens. I rarely see it happen anymore. With killers, the 3 gen strat involves setting up a zone from the start of the game.

  • Of my last 11 games I've had 10 different killers. Had a Wesker twice. I feel like i get a good variety. Maybe the higher up in MMR you are, the less you see?

Killers were Myers, Trapper, Demogorgon, Freddy, Legion, Deathslinger, Wesker, Bubba, Blight, Pyramid Head.

I already see it. look at how new brand new part works. I think it will be something like every point of regression on a generator reduces max charges of a generator.

so for example, for every 10% regression, the generator loses max 5 charges. so for example, after you regression 100% of a generator, the generator has 45 charges remaining meaning that you have 50% permanent progress on generator that cannot be regressed. something like that punishes killer for camping 3 generators because as long as survivor progress gens, they eventually build-up permanent progress that cannot be erased. that also kills 3 gens in a different way because now your getting punished for activating regression effects.

It means that even new player can break any 3 gen by just building progress then failing skill-checks until they win. you don't need to have team-eternal level of skill at that point to break 3 gens. you win by failure. BVHR sometimes balances like that on killer powers.

Possibly, though they also said they don't want the solution to affect accidental 3 gens (ie when survivors inadvertently leave a 3 gen late game). They still want that risk there.

  • @I_CAME said:

Skull Merchant is going to cause three gen as a strategy to be completely deleted from the game. I feel like they're going to do something crazy like survivors get 5% repair speed for every minute the last gen isn't repaired. Behavior tends to favor nuclear options so I really do think something like this is likely.

The devs already said a few months ago that the 3 gen strat is never how they intended the game to be played. So yeah, they're planning to get rid of it. Not sure how they'll manage it though so will be interesting to see.

  • On the plus side, your one seems to be hooking. So at least you lot can duck out. The worst are the ones who refuse to hook in case they lose a second of precious kicking time, so your only option is to bleed out provided no one tries to pick you up (still better than a one hour game).

  • I made a Wraith DC doing this challenge 😭 he kept getting the No Mither guy and I kept jumping at the hooks. I wasn't trolling, just wanted the challenge done

  • You don't have to tell us. I've joined some TCM groups and it feels like in every discussion inevitably someone brings up DBD and its usually negative. It's not like that in DBD groups, in fact it's mostly positive things I've seen said about TCM in DBD groups. I'm enjoying watching some DBD streamers playing the game (watching AngryPug atm)

Hell...they do 4 chapters a year now and this year specifically, 3 out of the 4 weren't good anyway, so obviously something needs to change. They must be having crunch time in there judging by the 'quality' of the Knight, Skull Lady, and Singularity chapters... We can't really say they feel rushed as we don't know what the characters should feel like or play like due to them being original. Skull Merchant though, I think most people agree on her, that chapter felt like a 'quantity' over quality. When the majority of your audience is saying they'd rather have NOTHING than what you just came out with, something is definitely wrong.

They've said they spend 12 months developing a single chapter. If we only had 3 releases this year it could have been Knight, SM, and Singularity, and people would have been disappointed. It could have been Knight, SM, and Alien, and people would have been disappointed in 2/3. And Singularity would have shown up next year. You're assuming if they released one less chapter a year that somehow the ideas and concepts they've come up with already wouldn't have graced our games. Chances are they still would have.

  • They're never gonna please everyone, and if they only had 3 new Chapters a year there will still be people complaining they aren't good enough. I think most of what they come out with is fine. There are limitations in the game to what they can do with killers power-wise, so there will always be an overlap with other killers. And I'm pretty sure things like bug fixes and perk changes are controlled by different people to the ones working on new chapters.

  • My queue times are fine, whether night or day. I've played for almost 3 years and I reckon the longest queue I've had in that time was maaaybe 2 minutes

that's low mmr gameplay tbh, if you win enough on killer you will get teams that finish all 5 gens very quickly, even with decent short chases you literally cannot win if you're not tunneling, only exception is blight he can play for 12 hooks

Possibly, but after 2.5 years and 1500+ hours I feel I'm well out of low MMR. I'm not being matched with new or inexperienced team mates or killers either. The devs have said before that if you try hard to win then the game will give you more difficult opponents, that's how its designed. Perhaps there's just some of us content with our results and don't feel we need to genrush or tunnel and our games reflect that in our matchmaking.

  • That's really sad. Some people seem to forget they're not playing against a computer, but actual living people. It's a sad state if affairs across the online world in general too. Cowards feel brave enough to say the things they'd never say to your face.

  • I see tunnelling in my survivor games 1 in every 10-12 games, and majority of those games are a survivor loss. Most of the killers I face seem to have no issue winning without tunnelling.

  • Hate Lerys with a passion. The rest are fine

  • To switch my brain off for a bit

  • I'm not surprised he thinks that. MFT is a nice boost to those like him, who are already good in chase. He would of course notice the benefit to him. MFT on an average player might get them an extra loop if they have some understanding of tiles. That player wouldn't see what the fuss is all about.

  • @Xendritch said:

I literally had a game as SM today where I won at 5 gens, the way people exaggerate the idea that SM has to 3 gen to be effective is crazy.

Yeah I've gone against two SMs to date who haven't 3-genned and both easily walked away with a win with an average length game. I didn't care because the games were actually enjoyable. It's a shame seemingly 99% of SM players choose to play her the way they do.

  • I've seen a few killers use it but honestly, as a survivor main, it hasn't made much impact on my games. I kind of see a blocked vault and think huh, interesting. Then just keep going.

  • Don't even worry about it lol every similar game that has come out to date has prompted the same comparison to DBD. I remember when VHS was in beta, their official discord was literally full of DBD discussion. You'd think people would talk about the game in question but nope, just discussing how DBD will fail now. Goes to show how influential DBD is in this corner of the gaming world. People need to understand they *can* enjoy more than one game at the same time.

  • @Xendritch said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3519968#Comment_3519968

That Xeno in that video looked like a bad killer player in general, indecisive and literally just ran into flamethrowers for some reason without destroying them.

The flamethrowers are a mild annoyance at worst, you can destroy them easily and ignore them and get a hit as well if you so choose. The fact that you get your power so quickly in your tunnels means being broken out of your power doesn't really matter that much.

They're less EMPs and more like Nemmy Vaccines where yes they make you waste time getting your power back but overall if you're a good killer they won't stop you from using your power.

Yeah, I was watching Umbra play Xeno live during the PTB and she was knocking down the flamethrowers like they were simply bothersome flies. Looked like they were barely an inconvenience. I'm reserving judgement until I get to play Xeno myself but I'm not concerned about them. Watching streamers actually play it live, they seemed to adapt to them pretty quick and most were saying they weren't an issue.

Yep. But it is this forum as usual - Survivors DCing is the worst, but Killers DCing...nono, the game must change, Killers are DCing!!!1111

(But the reality is - neither side should do that. But for some reason, in this forum, it is fine if Killers are doing it...)

Glad I'm not the only one that picked up on that lol when survivors DC they're just out to ruin everyone's game, there's surely no underlying reason. Killer DCs? "oh honestly, can't blame them"

  • "The best thing I really like is you have to play your character to level up that specific character in ability/perks"

Isn't that because each character, even the survivors, have different strengths? So makes sense. In DBD the survivors all have the same capabilities so there'd be no point.

Not sure which part of Asia you’re referring to. I concur with OP’s data for the SEA region because my experience is similar. MFT definitely isn’t common for the Japan community, Botany + selfcare is a very common combo so there’s not much wiggle room left for MFT.

Not sure what part tbh. I match with alot of Asian players but as I don't read the language/recognize their usernames, I'm not sure where from. But yeah, I very rarely see them with MFT.

  • I say try her, maybe next time there's a sale on. She may be considered a weaker killer but as you said, there's a difference between being good and being fun. You might find her fun to play as.

  • I'm keen to add to this with my own stats, purely because I don't see MFT all that much. I'm in Western Australia and we cross into the Asian region server and it really doesn't seem popular among players over there.

  • If you manage to hit them, then look at their pools of blood as you chase them. If cheating, they'll usually speed up when you're out of line of sight so their blood pools will be further apart in those areas.

  • Last I heard it got delayed. Would love to be proven wrong, I have so much on my Switch that I want on my PS5 now

  • Just find your own fun. The plus side of changing platforms recently means I get to do all the tome challenges again, so that gives me purpose in each game and makes me feel like i achieved something. So if you have any left to do then go for it. Same with dailies. I don't go out of my way to get them done, since I don't want to potentially throw the game in the process, but in solo queue alot of people just seem to stand around doing nothing anyway so I don't feel too bad. I'm always doing something.

If that doesn't work, just take a break. I actually haven't played in a few days. I go through periods like this all the time.

  • I think there's always going to be some similarities and overlap between killers. I think there are limitations on what they can really achieve in the game power-wise.

  • If they don't hump you on the ground at the end and leave you all to bleed out on purpose, then they probably enjoy her. The aforementioned ones are absolutely playing her just to be painful.

  • @thisislastyearsmodel said:

Depends on who you play, I think. When I play Trapper I feel like I'm bound to lose like 80% of my games LOL

Remember the days when his power was worth more than putting 3 traps around basement? :')

In my region, if I play at night I will inevitably run into this one Trapper main who just absolutely steamrolls. I can't wait until he moves higher up in MMR and I stop getting matched with him 🤣 doesn't matter what map it is or what perks I bring, he's just cracked. He somehow managed to divide the RPD map with his traps and the lobby became no man's land. You disarmed one trap and he was on you so fast.

  • I was watching a streamer play on Midwich not long ago and there was a gen in that little room with the hole in the wall that opens to an exit gate. I believe it's the Storage Room. Never seen it there before.

  • @HarlockTaliesin said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3517048#Comment_3517048

This. I value quality infinitely more than time. I will wait for a lobby so long as the subsequent trial has balance. It's not like there's so little to do on the internet during the wait. Plus if things are more balanced the amount of DCs/suicides will naturally reduce, as the painful and obvious imbalance is one of the primary drivers of DC/suicide.

I understand there are those that do want to get lobbies as fast as possible, regardless of getting stomped every time. That's fine. They can use the fast lobby setting while those who prefer a more balanced game can use the quality lobby setting.

The important thing is that there IS a choice, and that is actually works properly. Not like the trial feedback rating above the scoreboard, not like the player kudos feedback, not like the current lag icons. NOT a placebo.

Thing is, BHVR had a test week last year where they messed with their SBMM every day to see how people reacted. On the more accurate MMR days, people overwhelmingly did not like the longer waits. In fact, at its most strictest there were people waiting for upwards of an hour. Lots of people say they'll be happy to wait longer yet when that time arrived, it was recieved negatively.

  • "The leniency to mess around at different points in the match has been greatly reduced that you can REALLY notice survivors throwing the match by doing random BS be it cleansing totem, looting chest"

I've said a few times, that the game is at a point where time is so valuable that doing something as mundane as cleansing a totem or opening a chest can be throwing the game. It even angers your team mates at times. When your resources (pallets) are steadily depleting, dead zones are becoming more apparent (some reworked maps have deadzones from the start of the game) then it's not in your best interest to spend time doing things like that.

  • @FreddyVoorhees said:

I wonder if its coded to appear different to different mmr levels.

Can confirm. I took this photo awhile ago. The Switch is my old account, had been playing on it for a couple years and would be mid-MMR, and the PS5 on the TV screen behind it was my newer account (at the time) and therefore low MMR. Cross play on, same region, only difference is MMR. Switch 100% survivor, PS5 100% killer.
