I like this concept!
but I think the human form instead of main doll is needed. The aura reading would be too OP I guess so introduce a time limit to doll-possession and you have a powerful time limited form and a normal form With good detection from the dolls and some kind of map pressure with soul transfer and placeable dolls.
maybe the detection of the dolls could work like hag traps if they turn out to be too powerful. (Crouching does not activate them)

You shouldn’t get your hopes up for Jeepers Creepers.. ever. I think the devs have stated that this one is out of question because of the director/license holder!

There are hundreds of horror moives and dozens of iconic killers from them all. There is no reason it HAS to be such a short list as Jason, Xeno, or Candyman.
Those names have been tossed around so much that it seems like everyone forgot there are any other iconic killers in horror history. Hell, Im still waiting for someone to explain why it is them to start with who's sole source isnt a single random tweet.
candyman: that random tweet from a dec that literally is about „next chapter“, Tony Todd who said voiced for a video game but can’t tell which one, also he followed DbD on Twitter (or vice versa), he is a classic and (t least regional) iconic killer that also happens to get a movie remake this year. And some leaked buzzing audio sound that could relate to bees, though I only read about this one.
for the others I don’t know the speculation basis other than they are iconic killers.

The Descent chapter.
Crawler as killer and either Sarah and Juno as survivor. I would honestly love a chapter that would bring a cave map with it. Unfortunately for The Descent, the creatures aren't really killer worthy in DBD, imo.
I also thought about that movie! The cave-system and the possible survivors could be cool. But the crawlers are way to dependent on climbing I guess. Maybe they could concentrate on their blindness and stealth for their power?
another unlikely possibility would be ‚The hills have eyes‘. I remember not enough about that one though..

Question: Has there actually been any confirmation as to whether the next Killer will be licensed or original?
Yeah, McCote said the chapter will be licensed.
he also said it will be a classic horror franchise and feature an iconic killer and a mysterious survivor. Not sure about the literal wording, but something like this.

Maybe i have an untrained eye but this looks completely legit to me.
- The lighting doesn't look out of place
- The account, judging by the details, has been used to test Alien and maybe survivor vs the Alien for a short while judging by the devotion level, shards and rank 17 (developers, especially on test accounts don't really climb the ranks that hard)
- It's model looks way too detailed and it fits surprisingly well into the lobby.
- It's height looks appropriate for the game, if it were any taller or bigger I think it would look odd, not all xenomorphs are huge (from what i remember)
- It has idle lobby animations, clearly.
If this is fake, to me, it is VERY well done. The only thing that throws me off is that the OP hasn't stated how they got the pictures, but it's possible they don't want to get in trouble.
The model is probably just directly out of Alien: Isolation.
the background doesn’t look that convincing, if you look closely there are some „white dots“ right from the Alien model for example that are the exact same in both pictures: seems like they used the same background picture 2 times.
-
I am on Team Fake as well..
mainly because blurr and not fitting height/nothing of the character behind any UI elements.. and don’t chapters come with unique backgrounds nowadays? plus I really don’t want to get my hopes up. Alien would be amazing.
whats the source of the images?

You say you’re not mad and yet you get furious over other people not liking a washed up old cheesy not so scary killer🤷♂️.And you say I’m stubborn 🙄 I think it’s you who’s the stubborn one not excepting other people’s opinions.
shwag just pointed out that despite your opinion that Chucky is not scary he is still a horror icon. This has nothing to do with your opinion.
also I don’t think he was ever meant to be that scary tbh. Just creepy and I guess it was a totally different time for the horror genre back then.

We don't have the ghostface from the movies. We have great value brand ghost face.
Yeah. That is not convincing me. While I like the Ghost Face we got and his power, the Scream franchise and a survivor (Sidney) is definitely missing! A map with Sidneys Home or some other location would have been cool as well.

Personally id rather have none. We all know they will be weak at launch and nerfed shortly after. I don't wanna put them through that.
With this mindset, wouldn’t it be better to just drop the game?
On topic: I don’t want half of Jason. I am not really familiar with the franchise but I would rather wait and get the whole deal with mother issues and Camp Crystal Lake.
-
Lithe. i actually try to end chases and break LoS. Since last update I noticed better hit detection after a vault so it’s not as useless anymore.
Dead Hard is still way too unreliable, Sprint burst too boring because I have to „save it up“, BL was never my cup of tea.
Head On can be fun as well, I mostly forget that it’s an exhaustion Perk though.
-
The devs already mentioned that they are interested in Pennywise, haven’t they?
so every argument against IT that’s not personal preference or something license dependent (e.g. King wouldn’t allow it lore-wise or license too expensive) is pretty much irrelevant.
-
There will be people arguing this is taking the game hostage if more than one survivor/ the last two survivors play like this.
but sure this is a legitimate strategy. You will get salty messages though, so do not wonder. And it is unfun for the other players in the match, because you are pretty much playing against the other survivors. Again: legitimate. But unfun for others and def will generate salt.

Yeah that’s the problem. They never made hints that obvious and I am really curious how this one will turn out.
but directly saying it will be Candyman is probably forbidden due to contract with the licenseholder!

this one has nothing to do with Chucky though, does it?
i really wonder if they will get away with it. They could have called it „totally-not-Chucky the legend“ as well..
on topic: I always thought they could make Chucky drag the downed survivor and then throw them up to a hook. It would look weird but we are talking about a voodoo killer puppet in the realm of a spider-like creature that feeds of extreme emotions and kidnaps people from different dimensions..

The Alien one (look on youtube) is the main herring(?) For me...
Also this new "Lovers Postcard" thats is mobile game is surely from IT.
Theres other herrings too...check out You Tube theories.
The Alien one though especially with the skeleton picture...
I just want Candyman announced already.
You guys dont know. I love these moviess so much and can never get any of my friends into them. "Oh its so boring.." They always say. It makes me feel kinda lonely in my love for the series. If it came out to DBD the series would gain so many fans, I think.😍
So nothing really as direct as the bee tweet and just speculation.. sorry but I don’t see any big red herrings there.
A lovers postcard is not really exclusive to IT, and this one has definitely another motive. It may be a vague hint but is not directly hinting like „next chapter is gonna bee sweet“
-

Guys, stop arguing. They have purposely thriwn out red herring after red herring. There's reason to believe it could be anyone people suggest. Cause the red herrings are well thought out. We can't know for sure until the anouncement. I still think it's Candyman, but the herrings are worrisome...i hate not knowing 100%. It's making me lose interest...
What are the other red herrings though? Not arguing, just want to know..

"It's too obvious, clearly they must be deceiving us."
When have the devs ever done something like that in the past four years? Please, point out some examples so your statement (summarized above) has some weight to it.
i was googling a little bit because I have asked as well and never got an answer:
In March 2018 they teased Jeepers Creepers with some wording of „every 23 years“ either in a stream or tweet. This was a direct hint but turned out to be not true and later they said that Jeepers Creepers is out of question because of the director/license holder.
They also followed Stephen King and some people related to The Walking Dead after the following of the actors of Nancy and Steve, which isn’t a direct hint but also makes the whole following Tony Todd thing irrelevant. (He still did he has voiced for a video game though)

It works the other way around. When did they leaked something soo hard soo obvously before? Never. They built a lot if hype for this chapter because it’s gonna be something special. Fake teasing is a good strategy to keep people guessing and make them excited. If it would be candyman in the end, it would be the most dissapointing thing they ever done.
Fake teasing would be another thing though.
this is them hyping up specifically for Candyman and if it turns out not to be Candyman, many people will be disappointed. It would be different if they made obvious red herrings for more than one license, but as it stands only Candyman gets this. All other hints and clues people are basing their speculations on are vague.

-
Yeah absolutely.
there are of course some you see more often than others but I feel like it’s way more varied now than it was some time ago!
-
there are definitely different survivor players that would say it for different reasons.
i am pretty sure those that would be referred to as potatoes in these forums call killers boring when those killers play in the most „brutal“ way even after realizing that the survs are not the pro-looping, genrushing, bullying type.

The thing is-if u went to another site, list of iconic killers, candyman would never be in the top ten.but u have to take into consideration of 1.who they can get licence/image rights too 2.the so called clues, which is strange, coz why say the bee comments, and leave it there, may aswell just tell u who it is,who else could that comment relate too.candyman wouldnt be my first choice at all.but anything new is welcomed,as long as its a bit of a different experiance to other characters.
Funnily enough i just googled „iconic slasher“ and Candyman was on 9th place in the first result.
I didn’t know him myself before DbD speculations brought him up but he seems to be there. Definitely not as iconic as the big boys though (Michael, Freddy, Jason).

Pretty much the same as Demogorgon.
Time doesn’t play a role for the Entity and the Entity can also control the power of the killers.

Don’t we have enough of these threads already?
anyways, Xenomorph would be cool, Candyman really likely and I will be happy if the license just fits right to DbD (so NOT Scooby-Doo).

This one is special. they do all sorts of stuff to misguide us. this tweet, the poster, the home-made photos. i've seen all the speculation videos on youtube. I have only one big suspect left and i'm confident
The photos are not really hints or red herrings. They may contain hints but these would be obscure and nothing major and nothing that hints directly at one specific license.
the bee-tweet however is pretty much them saying „next chapter is Candyman“. Which is wierd because they never dropped that specific hints. But they never dropped that specific red herrings either (or did they??). So this is something new, and I think it could lead to backlash from fans that are now excited for Candyman (rightfully after that tweet though)
-
I think this concept would work better as a complete new asymmetrical game tbh. And a very cool one, with some variations! (More survivors and someone would need help removing the facehugger for example)
A killer that changes up the standard match would be cool though.
-

Yeah I meant it the way Orion described it.
this bait feels too heavy to not be real -!: I think they never made clues that hinted at something that turned out to be false.
i guess they did tweet something that hinted at Jeepers Creepers, but that was before the whole incident with the director? I am not sure though..

Has there ever been such a direct bait though?
(Serious question, I think a bait like this could upset many people but if it has happened before then it’s possible)
-
If the 4 was the only hint then I would agree that it would be reaching, but all hints especially the bee-tweet and candymans voice-actors comments accumulated do point at Candyman.
the 4 itself looks more like clean slashes to me, which would be more suited to a knife than a hook I guess? The 4 being shaped like Pyramidhead was only a joke I thought? No one really believes this would be a hint..
-
problem is, if you play in the most optimal way (looping, wasting as much time of the killer, repair gens until the killer is right next to you etc) you pretty much automatically ignore the atmosphere of the game and it is not scary at all.
playing immersed and more in the atmosphere (more carful, hiding, healing somewhere safe, trying to end a chase not prolong it) is mostly frowned upon by both killer and survivor-teammates and you will get called names and probably get „penalized“ by the emblem-system also.

"Outside the USA". Read that again, then look at the box office numbers.
hmm. I didn’t argue against them being less known outside the US..
I just wanted to know what would count as iconic for the slasher genre. I would just assume it is kind of a genre that is generally more iconic for US-movie-industry as a whole.

I take it you missed the part about the girlfriend and how nobody else knew or cared about Jason or Freddy?
If Jason, Myers and Freddy aren’t famous, then which horror slasher is?
They are iconic and defined the whole slasher genre. Toss in GhostFace/Scream and Leatherface you have the 5 biggest together.
they may tend to be more iconic/known in the US (and EU) but really, what else would count as iconic if not them?

Thing is, you can't force someone to play the game.
There's plenty of scenarios where a survivor is just going to want out, for whatever reason. E.g. playing against a killer they find really unfun (be honest, there's a few that suck to go against), teammates are just sitting on gens leaving them to die, bad lag making the match unplayable, etc. If you try and force them to stay, they're perhaps not going to play properly, and/or just feel miserable.
And how would you enforce action against someone dying on hook? How could you differentiate between someone who intentionally lets themselves die, vs. someone who decided to try and escape off hook, then genuinely failed to mash struggle properly? It might seem unlikely, but it could happen. I've derped on a few occasions and bodged it up myself.
I think a better solution would be to make it more likely that people will want to stay and complete a match. In an ideal world, BHVR would address the issues that turn people off, but it's BHVR, so they'll probably just add more hats and be done with it. 😏
I hope they will add a cool hat for Adam. I am ready to pay money for it!

Nothing against it, we need Perk reworks and new Perks that shake up the meta a little bit and with the right numbers it shouldn’t be too powerful.

That's not a legit reason. If your team is hook farming you, report them, that is a different behavior, or DC and take the penalty. You shouldn't get a "free" dc whenever you want.
It is a legit reason. It is a normal game mechanic that was here since day 1. you may not like it but the devs have implemented it.
its like tunneling(with mori) someone out of a match: the killer prevents that survivor from getting any other points and makes sure that survivor will loose a pip. But somehow this is okay but hook suiciding is against some ominous rules because it robs the killer points and a pop? There are strategic situations where a hook suicide helps your team after all.

That's different though. If i play bad and the survivors escape i don't get the adept. But if i do what i'm suppose to and down someone and they auto dc then i also don't get it. I can't think of anyway a killer can block the survivor one if the survivor does what they are suppose to.
Actually the killer can prevent it, by hardcore tunneling and camping. even if the survivor plays significantly better the killer can secure a kill in most cases.
but I agree that this is not as bad, since the conditions for killer adepts are worse and harder to get.
-
Killers can prevent survivors adepts by just killing them.
serioulsy though: killer adepts are ridiculous. They are the only cases where I „slugged for the 4K“ and for me that is not a fun way to play killer.. I am just happy I am not on red ranks and occasionally are not matched against red rank survivors.
-
I guess we all know what these kind of killers are doing when their „strategy“ works out. So don’t feel too bad as long as you don’t do it to „normal“ playing killers.
this is an online multiplayer game, being the better person in this case wouldn’t have suddenly changed their mind, they wouldn’t notice and go on with their „strategy“.
-
- Xenomorph
- Candyman
- Blair Witch
- Pennywise
- Jason
I like the Alien film Series and actually quite recently played Alien: Isolation. A very well done horror game with awesome atmosphere. It couldn’t be replicated in DBD though I hope it will be enough
I couldn’t care less for Candyman, never saw any of his films and even now I am not motivated - but I reeeally want to see the Devs implementation of the bees/ a power based on insects.
The Blair Witch replaces Pyramid Head because I don’t know anything about him and i think the witch does go in the iconic horror genre killer category. I see very interesting power potential and Perks here!
Pennywise is someone or better something that I know of but still not that excited. It is iconic and the devs already said they want it so I got nothing against it. But bring the sewers of Derry as a map! And the power could be very interesting!
Jason is last on my list. He is a pretty normal slasher boy that kinda belongs in the game at this point but I don’t see that great of power-Potential nor am I in any way attached to him or the Friday the 13th franchise.

To be fair, Freddy has a long history of getting his ass kicked by teenagers. Especially if they are in the dream world with him. In fact, that's why slasher characters DO work well in Dbd. They all have a history of being undone by flimsy regular old human beings in ridiculous ways. The xenomorph, however, generally requires either a heavily armed opponent or some serious industrial equipment to even slow them down.
i am not that familiar with the NoES films, but they outsmart Freddy iirc and Freddy actually plays with them. It’s not something you can really compare to pallets or loops. If they had tried to just outrun Freddy or throw something against him he would not have been stopped at all.
-
I didn’t know they were making that much of a difference between mobile and pc/consoles.
i guess at least there will never be exclusive chapters/characters at least? (Except for Nightmare on Elmstreet, which will hopefully be added later)
how do new chapters work on mobile anyway?

I´m not saying no way, the Xenomorph is never going to be in this game... I´m saying if they would put it in the game it´d either be to Powerful or it would degenrate the Xenomorph into a joke.
Let´s put it this way--- You put all the Killers and a Xenomorph (all vulnerable and killable / no I´m a ghost end therefore unhurtable) on a map and let them fight till death... who do you think would kill all the other Killers and maybe even survive... The Alien. I´m sure that the Entity could controll it... after all the Alien is a controlled beast, like a weapon but there is no vision of it being looped, being stunned by Palletts, being outrun, blinded or Decisive Struck (You would just kill youself coming in touch with it´s blood).
I am with you with all of that. Nothing of this would be a strict reason to not add a Xenomorph.
Pallet stuns and looping are already way to strong and also don’t make much sense/are unbelievable with many killers as of now. The same arguments can at least applied to Freddy and Demogorgon and I am probably forgetting someone.
Decisive strike is another matter, I have not thought about that, it would certainly be too powerful to have one killer just negate this Perk completely. But maybe the devs could come up with some passive ability that would at least acknowledge the acidic blood.
-
@Ravean said:
The Alien (Xenomorph) just doesn´t fit in Dead by Daylight without becoming a joke. The Alien is way to powerful for the standards of this game... everything about it is totally lethat (claws, teeth, tail and even blood). It can climb any walls and even under ceilings, it can jump very long distances, runs almost as fast as a car on ful speed and doing all this it´s nearly noiseless. The strongest Killer in DbD (The Nurse) would look like a Ragdoll compared to this kind of Uber-Killer. If the Xenomorph would come to DbD it would just be Demogorgon V2.0 with a Xenomorph skin and that would truely be a sad thing for the mighty Alien Creature.
While I agree that a Xenomorph on its own would be way to powerful this can be said about other killers as well, especially Demogorgon or Freddy.
This is still just a game where the game mechanics restrict things and even lore-wise you can argue that the Xenomorph would be controlled/restricted by the Entity. So the Devs can make it fit easily if they and the license holders want to.
I would be really happy to see the Xenomorph implemented.

"They have still done enough gens to get the hatch to spawn."
The point/problem is that the key cuts down on the number of gens needed for multiple players to escape, which, as you said, is not super fair.
They still lost one or more teammates and while it is not super fair - looking at gameplay mechanics - the killer has in my opinion way more unfair strategy’s to use that should be looked at before this. And that is without a rare or super rare item and only using basekit.
-
@TAG said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1288996#Comment_1288996
it was a serious question. What about those games where multiple people are allowed to escape without having done all the gens?
You can, but you have to have already found them before they use the key. If you are even a little bit further away, everyone there is probably making the escape.
They have still done enough gens to get the hatch to spawn. It is not super fair but the killer already got a kill, no one is on a hook and assuming it’s not SWF the others had to „meet up“, get everyone to know that a key is here and find the hatch.
it is another discussion if it is SWF, especially if it is a 3 man SWF that got the random killed for this purpose. The normal mechanic is not that serious.
