Yeah stats just lead to more arguing honestly.
For example one thing i've seen already.
Survivor: Well statistically overall killers get at least 2 kills per match
Killer: Yeah but take ruin/pop/thana/dying light out of the equation and its a different story about gen rush.
The debates went nowhere in this scenario. Survivors think killers get kills all the time and killers think they're gen rushed without slowdown stacking.
This is true and a definite pitfall when releasing statistics to people who don't understand how statistics work. There's a reason there are college degree programs dedicated to the field.

What am I supposed to do when I hear the terror radius?
Assuming your post isn't sarcasm, I would suggest stealthing until you figure out what the killer is up to. If they are chasing another survivor you can work on a nearby gen but keep an eye on the chase in case the killer puts their sights on you.
When I was new I would panic as soon as I heard the heartbeat and would often end up catching the attention of the killer. Or I would completely hide but end up with hardly any bp at the end of the match. I found Premonition really helped me figure out what I could successful pull off inside the Terror Radius.

I don't think its dying anytime soon, but I'm just curious what they will do when DBD doesn't make them that much money anymore.
Probably develop other games. That's what game studios do.
-
I am not super consistent at this point. If I'm warmed up as survivor I can hit them maybe 60% of the time. My problem is I'm generally so focused in getting it that I over anticipate and cause the gen to explode rather than hitting it late and getting the ruin regression.
-
I'm not a fan of them on survivors. Just personal preference. I just prefer their outfits without them. I love the killer ones on the hooks and some of them help with hook visibility. I'd rather see the survivor charms appear on gens and chests tbh.

What gives you the right to determine whether criticisms have merit or not? Some of us have played the game long enough to recognize terrible balance updates when we see them.
Do some people overreact to changes? Sure, but that doesn't mean all criticisms are made without a basis.
You can make the argument that it would be better to hold off on our criticisms until some time after the update has went live. That way the devs have time to collect data. But again, some changes are so bad that we don't even need to wait to let the devs know.
I never said all criticism are made without basis. Do you not see the many criticisms that are made without basis on this forum? I do think it's problematic to make criticisms without attempting to overcome any perceived negatives through actual gameplay.
Maybe you think you know how bad something is based on the past. But I'm willing to bet there are more perks available since that past experience. That means new and different opportunities for counter play. What gives you the right to think you know everything without any new experimentation?

I dont think it would if people dc because of mori's and dont know till they get mori'd theyll just dc mid Mori, or as someone else is being mori'd
Except there is a punishment being rolled out for the in match DC's. Not sure if this will apply before the match starts. Hopefully it will and this is a moot point!
-
I just wonder who they would play against. Killer DC's are rare in my experience compared to survivor DC's.
-
Sadly they are disconnecting because they know you have a Mori because it's a "secret" offering. Problem is everytime the killer's offering isn't shown before load screen people assume it's a Mori and bail
I think they should make all killer offerings secret and not revealed to survivors. Heck I'd be fine with the killer not being able to see survivors' offerings as well. It would go a long way towards fixing this specific problem IMHO.

Some red rank people certainly care about rank as they like to dismiss and belittle those who are lower ranks. Just see any thread with a "What rank are you?" Followed by "That's what I thought, you have no clue what you're talking about."
There are different strategies at different ranks. Plenty of perks I see people write off as completely useless were incredibly helpful to me while I was learning the game. Premonition is a great example. It helped me guage how to effectively play within a killer's terror radius and was also helpful when I was constantly being the first survivor who was hunted down each match. Once I got past those issues I no longer needed the perk and could use that slot to experiment with other ones.

That should be the responsibility of the parent and not the sellers.
Tell that to all the parents who caused the moral panic when GTA 3 came out. That's why we have ratings now!
-
I have a theory that devs may be more attentive to survivors because they need 4x more of them per match. This is pure speculation and I hope that it's really not the case.
It is hard to read some forum posts and look at things like the DC problems and not feel like survivors control the levers of power in this game's dynamics and abuse that power constantly. It seems like most killers go out of their way to play by the "survivor rules" in hopes of appeasing them and getting to play "fun" matches on the killer side. This isn't good enough for a lot of survivors though and they would much rather ruin a match than be good sports.
Btw I play both sides and even when I play survivor I have a bad experience more often from other survivors, not the killers.

I don't have a problem with complaints if they are based on more than complete speculation vs actual gameplay experience. My OP is more about people having extreme reactions to release notes without taking the time to actually try and come up with counterplay.

I have never disconnected due to being upset. I have disconnected when my game froze or Steam borked. I recall a game yesterday when I lost the sound entirely and had no way to know if I was in the terror radius, or even hear what was going on. I statyed and played it was ... very weird.
I know some of my friends have disconnected because they are unhappy at the way the match is going. I see no reason to disconnect. There is always a chance that victory can be snatched from the jaws of defeat.
I wholeheartedly agree! If I get hooked early it sucks but it feels awesome if I end up escaping. Wish more people would give the match a chance to play out instead of giving up immediately and ruining the experience for the rest of the players.
On a side note I do see a lot of posts on the forum saying people DC because they aren't having fun and want to move on to the next match. But it's amazing how many people I've seen DC early and then stick around to be insulting in end game chat.

Lets be honest though shall we? People play video games for fun, and to relax and as a way of dividing up their free time instead of watching a movie, reading a book or listening to music as examples.
The reason people complain is primarily they are not having fun. Its no fun being eliminated in the first two minutes of a match by an over eager killer. Its no fun being gen stomped by a SWF premade that has hours of practise on all maps and carry complementary perks....
Imagine if you could only equip one perk until your rank raised up? So at 17-20 you get one perk, at 13-16 you get two, 9-13 three and 5-8 four perks.
It would stop everyone relying on leveling to level 15 having 4 perks and whatever the current meta is.
I don't know. . . Usually when I read the "not having fun" argument it's people justifying why it's ok to DC and/or exhibit other unsportsmanlike behavior. Hopefully you aren't one of those people. I can sit down for a session and "lose" some of my matches and still have fun. Sometimes you just get eliminated early.
I just don't understand the argument that all survivors must be allowed to be in a match for X amount of time and the devs must insure this happens. Sometimes you just get unlucky. I don't understand people who can't accept that.

I hate to say it, but I agree. The instinctive reaction seems to be to assume that something is either over- or underpowered because it doesn't fit into someone's specific playstyle, when most of the time, it's simply different. Different killers have different playstyles you need to adopt in order to play effectively both as and against them.
Unloopable doesn't necessarily mean overpowered, it just means you have to do something different. Bad map pressure doesn't necessarily mean underpowered, you might just have to adopt an alternate strategy. There is more to the game than the acknowledged meta.
Most of the time everyone calms right down once they get used to something and realise it's not as bad as they thought, but it never seems to occur to some people that the problem might be with them and not the game design.
This is so true! The whole "meta" build thing drives me crazy. It's something the red ranked community created and then convinced themselves that they are the only viable perks because of extreme competitiveness.
They put themselves in this box and expect the devs to make all the adjustments around the meta build. They also complain about facing the same few killers because many red rank killers only see those few as viable against the meta build.
You don't see these problems at lower ranks because people are more willing to experiment or have no choice because of limited perks. I wish people would break away from the meta build all together. I think the devs have been trying to urge this with recent reworks and the tome challenges. A lot of people don't seem to want to experiment though.

It also seems to have gotten waaaaaay worse since this forum launched a few months back.

I am so over this community. Every tweak equates to a perk is now "destroyed." Every reaction to anything is so f'ing over-the-top and extreme.
How many matches has OP played using this perk in its new state? Have they even tried to figure out how to adapt? Why does no one feel they should have to adapt? This game has been and will continuously be tweaked and changed. If you ask me the fact that you must continuously adapt keeps this game from getting boring. I'm so over the constant crying about changes.

I spent £600 on a golden feng code, which was a big decision but I was okay with it and that it was my responsibility. However, I did pay £600 for this exclusive, and many people have spent money on these because of their exclusive ranking in the game. This feels like a kick to the face and thrusts a large chunk of their core consumers and loyal fanbase to the side. I have never had an issue with bhvr, through bug and unwarranted deaths during gameplay. I love this game, but this decision on their end is absolutely devastating and no compensation for such a drastic decision would be a final blow. They haven't done it yet, they can still make it right. Anyone who is okay with this has their reasoning or are just super happy about getting a FREE exclusive cosmetic which I would also be. But if the devs have wanted to do this, then they shouldn't have waited until after three years have passed, plentiful time for many members to lose money, it's just completely immoral.
Also, I'm confused. . . if these "exclusives" were so rare and hard to get how are they alienating a "large chunk" of their fanbase.

For sure, there are still jerks that play for pips. Or they play for pips AND 4k/escapes. But in my experience you are more likely to see toxicity from players playing for anything but pips.
Like I had a game earlier where I died on second hook because everyone was too scared to save me. I depipped. I'm not mad at the killer, and I'm only mildly upset with the other survivors (no hate mail or nothing just like "######### bro?" kinda thing). I took the L and moved on. A lot of players can't do that.
If only more players were like you!
-
@thesuicidefox said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/831874#Comment_831874
I disagree. I think players that play for pips are actually less competitive than other players. I'm talking about the ones that only see a 4k/escape as a win. If you play for pips this is less important, you are playing to perform better overall not aiming for a specific goal like number of kills or escapes. I'm fine with dying as survivor if I know I will pip and at least 1 other survivors escapes. I'm fine with giving away hatch if I know I will pip because I'm not playing to kill everyone every game.
These players are the problem. The refuse to yield on their goals and get mad if the other side does anything to stop that. It leads to bullying and toxicity. It leads to killers using broken add-ons and moris, and survivors playing in 4 man squads with keys and insta-heals (well used to until they were nerfed). The fact you can get a 4k or escape and no pip or even depip pretty much let people continue to do this and stay at low ranks to bully other players.
The reason high ranks is hard is because pipping at high ranks is hard and requires you to do a lot of everything. Everyone plays optimally because it's necessary, but that doesn't mean they are playing like jerks. It just means they play the game really well. By contrast, killers going to a 4k will drag out games by slugging, survivors going for an escape will sandbag each other to get hatch or flat out hide from the killer all game and do nothing. That's kind of playing like a jerk if you ask me.
You bring up some good points! I think it can be both types of players. I say this because I've been the target of abusive language in post-game chat specifically over pips. Most toxicity probably comes from people establishing their own internal win conditions be it pips, 4k's, or escapes. In my experience it's much better to go into a match with low expectations and be pleasantly surprised if things turn out well.

You have made good points, but none of this takes into account the fast paced nature of this game. Small numbers count. Mere seconds, or even micro seconds can make a world of difference in getting a hit, a down, or preventing a repair just in time.
I agree with what you say but remember, not every perk is equally effective on every killer. This is how the game is designed. Dying Light is best suited for one shot killers who can get early game hooks. That's why it's a Shape perk because he has the ability to get early EW3 downs

Not too bad I'll admit but I'd much rather the perk be simple and clean..its dumb a survivor gains more than you do for the perk
I don't think that's accurate. One survivor gets a buff to altruistic actions, but the other three get penalties to healing. The obsession might not necessarily be an altruistic player and if that's the case the team isn't necessarily in a better position.
Just like many perks in this game chance plays a big role. I see many people wanting perks buffed so there is a guaranteed effect. I don't think that's the best approach to things.

When people say no one cares about pips I cringe. I think they get this idea from content creators that have been playing this game a ######### ton for months and it's easy to repeat. Why is the ranking system constantly complained about as supportative evidence in people's explanations of other topics if nobody cares? Ranks = Amount of pips, right? And...why are there so many try hards if nobody cares?
I think the real problem is there is a subset of players who care FAR TO MUCH about pips and rank. I understand it's competitiveness and their self worth is tied to the number of their rank.
Overly competitive people ruin the fun of any game experience be it video games, a board game night with friends, or a sporting match. The problem is in the IRL situations you can just stop inviting those people to play with you. In online gaming you unwillingly get stuck with them.
