What are you talking about? What extreme expectations? That anything players request shouldn't be saddled to monetization efforts?
You're the one telling people to stick their head in the sand dude, I'm just pointing out how ridiculous that is. Sorry you weren't ready to listen to non agreeing responses bud.
But they aren't saddled to monetizing. You aren't required to buy the rift. There's a free track. It costs no money.

Yes you're saying lets wait and see if they throw out everything they've shown us and revamp it from the ground up. Months of work and something people have already purchased.
If that doesn't sound like pie eye in the sky dreaming i don't know what does. Blind optimism isn't neutral.
Predatory business practices don't require cloak and dagger. Everyone knows the house always wins, but casinos aren't shutting down.
You seem to have issues with this game and have extreme expectations. I'm sorry that hearing a point of view that isn't in line with yours causes you so much distress.

Unless they do it sooner rather than later, it doesn't matter for me. Because they've split up the tomes to be released every 2 to 3 weeks instead of all at once or even just a week apart, they're releasing the final challenges in December right around the holidays, when I (and I'm sure many others) travel. I probably won't be able to do the tome level 4 challenges before the Rift closes.
Unless they increase the number of Fragments rewarded and move up the scheduled release of level 4, then I still probably have to average over 4 hours a day of playing (due to traveling in December) to finish the Rift.
Anyway, if we don't all voice our opinions now about why we don't like the Archives/Rift in its current form, then how could we expect to see change for the better? Especially when the premium pass costs money, we have to judge the product as we have it right now. We can't judge the product on what might be, we can't judge it on changes that the devs haven't even said are definitely coming. But if we want to see change, we need to share our concerns. And people who have spent money and are unhappy with the product as they've seen it so far have every right to judge it based on what they have in hand; they shouldn't wait until it's too late and their money has gone to waste to voice their displeasure.
Why do you feel they should make this product so that everyone will complete it? There are those of us who know we won't complete it and ar ok with that and still see value in it.

Value is subjective by definition. Essential oils are a billion dollar a year industry, but its still snake oil shilled to gullible idiots.
I'm sorry this upsets you so much. And how does this relate to essential oils? How do you feel that this rift pass is tricking people exactly?
-
Their not tricking anyone into buing anything. This isn't fanboying I'm actually just trying to give people a more neutral perspective. I'm saying let's wait and see, not that the rift is the best thing ever.
-
I would also like to say, and it may be hard to believe, there are a lot of people who see value in the rift due to the amount of cosmetics they can get for the price. A lot of us know we won't complete the entire rift and are completely ok with it.

Do you get headaches with your head in the sand?
Yup

My judgement of the archives/rift isn't based on difficulty or amount of time played.
For literally years we've been begging for more challenges and things (and some people wanted lore) and we got nothing until they found a way to strap it to a typically predatory monetization practice.
That alone is pretty scummy, the outright lies about the difficulty and the absurdity of the grind/challenges as well as the time gated nature is just a cherry on top.
Idgaf about the rift, I'd just like a decent set of challenges and goals for the game. Not a new lackluster time gated grind.
Back to my first post. We don't know what the rest of the tomes will be like. You are getting challenges. It sounds like just not the type of challenges you had in mind. Maybe you should leave feedback on the Feedback & Suggestions page and suggest ones you'd like to see. This is only the first rift. I'm sure we will see numerous iterations.
I also disagree that this rift is predatory and it's becoming tiresome seeing people mislabel this. Ok, maybe it looks similar to shady ######### other games have done. But it allows you to see how far you progress before spending any money. It's not predatory. This isn't loot boxes that you have no idea what's inside.
-
@TragicSolitude said:
It doesn't even totally matter what the challenges are. Even if they are all able to be completed by the average player, it still only awards enough Fragments for 35 tiers of the Rift, leaving 35 tiers to be grinded exclusively by XP. I've timed how long it takes to earn a tier on the Rift: 4 to 6 hours. And yeah, it did include the daily bonus XP. If I average that to 5 hours, then it will take 2.5 hours per day every single day to complete the Rift. That's more than twice as much time as the devs said it should take. That's 175 hours in 70 days vs their estimated 70 hours in 70 days. That's a big difference.
One of the things many players have complained about in DbD is the grind. The devs finally made the Bloodweb a bit less grindy by letting players get 2 perks per level once they reach level 50. However, right on the tail of that comes The Rift, which is a new huge grind. Some people are already feeling the burnout trying to grind this thing, because a lot of people can't play every day, so they're left playing for a lot of hours on the days they do play.
Players wanted new challenges, new goals. Something fun to keep things fresh. A time-gated XP grind? No. That sucks.
Back to my original post, parts of your argument might prove to be untrue. We don't know what the other tomes hold? The rift shards earned for completing challenges might increase. The devs might do a double rift shard weekend similar to bloodhunts. We don't know which is why I'm saying maybe we should wait and see.
-
@Exerlin said:
There are a few problems with the rift, the main one being how reliant it is on an XP grind. If they made it more challenge based, such as having a few daily and/or weekly challenges that grant rift progress similar to the archives challenges, the rift would provide a viable goal that is fun to actively work towards.
There's nothing different for me to do right now. The archives gave the game a new, tangible goal to work towards, and it felt good to complete each challenge. I finished all of them a few days after the release though, so now I have nothing to focus on in-game. I'm just doing what I've been doing for the past 2 1/2 years, and it's burning me out.
We need something more than XP and the very limited amount of archives challenges. XP farming should never be the only way of progressing through anything, especially in a game like this.
The XP grind would be happening while you're playing anyway. We still have 8 weeks of the rift it really shouldn't be a race to complete at this point. I also don't think pacing the tome releases is a bad thing. Completing it in 3-4 days is probably faster than the average person. And would you rather reach a milestone in 4 days and grind (i.e. play matches you'd be playing anyway) for 10 days or finish all the tomes in a few weeks and grind for 7 weeks?
We do know almost half of the rift levels will require xp. Better to have the grind split up some. And anticipation for the next tome is kind of exciting. Let's not forget this is only the first iteration of the rift pass. They could always end up adding more challenges to the next rift. That's really great feedback to leave for BHVR.

So youre saying its not "predatory if you were able to see all the challenges before paying money to purchase the rift" and that "The devs have repeatedly said the tomes are not necessarily going to be identical to what was in the PTB"? Do you see the flaw there?
On top of that, not everyone will have done the maths involved. Some would just look and see thatif you complete the rift you get your investment back! If I play DbD a lot then I should come out a winner, right? Not many would realise that they can complete every single challenge in the Archives and play an hour every day and still not complete the rift.
Well the stronger argument for it not being predatory is the fact that you can see how far you progressed in the rift before deciding whether or not to pay money.

Im right there with ya, but the key words there are "when they arise". Frankly, im surprised they didnt take it a step further and make the placeholders things like "sacrafice 5 survivors in the basement in a single trial" and such. At least then people would be forced to take it with a grain of salt and maybe chuckle abit.
I think people would still take "sacrifice 5 survivors in the basement in a single match" quite literally. We are talking about people who call a pass that lets you see how far you progress before deciding to purchase it "predatory."

@JFF said:
I mean there’s nothing wrong with premium rift, but the grind to complete it is insane. I can imagine completing this one, but having to do this every 3 months I don’t know . They should definitely make it easier for people that can’t take play every single day.
The fact that you have the potential to earn back all the AC you spent to purchase the pass means they aren't going to make it so non-daily players can complete the entire thing. If they made it that easy they would just be giving out free cosmetics to everyone. If that was their intention, they'd give out free cosmetics and make everyone happy instead of having everyone complain about this rift.
That being said, even if you only partially complete the rift it's still a good value for all of the stuff you get. Just look at the price of cosmetics in the store and it's easy to see this. I can understand this might be annoying if you're a completionist. But I wouldn't hold out hope for them making it easier for more casual players.

It's simple. If you don't let the survivor unhook and be fully healed before encountering them again you're a camper. At least that's the conclusion I've come to from observing post game chat.

No. We've seen the challenges and done the math. We can clearly see what is achievable and what is clearly a predatory system and a cheap cash grab. Why wait to complain about it until its too late when we can clearly see what it is now?
Except we haven't really seen the challenges. The devs have repeatedly said the tomes are not necessarily going to be identical to what was in the PTB.
And if they do end up being the same is it really fair to say it's predatory if you were able to see all the challenges before paying money to purchase the rift?

So when I first saw this I thought to myself, “what in the actual #########”. Than I thought more reasonably. This tease could mean 3 things.
1) it’s a teaser for sprit changes. You could or call it second cut because they’ll probably gut the spirit with her upcoming changes. The first cut was when they killed nurse, but that’s up for another conversation.
2) it could be a chapter tease and we might actually have new chapter that ties itself with shattered bloodline. It would make sense to receive the spirits father as he is in the lore. This possible upcoming chapter would also better help the devs and their creative team show off their writing skills with the dlc linking to its predecessor. In the lore of the spirit it explains how her father caused her to be in the state she is in. Perhaps, the entity took the spirts father as well.
3) it may also mean that she is getting her own chase music. Which is less exciting, but I guess it would be cool to see. I personally find that her own chase music may hurt survivors, but I rather not try to explain my reasoning for that as I can’t begin to explain in words as of the moment.
NOTE: if the spirit is changed this upcoming patch than we may not see the doctor changes until the following patch.
what do you think?
EDIT: you guys are a bunch of lame heathens. Instead of being excited for something like a potential dlc, all you do is fight over is spirit nerfs. I asked you what you thought about the teaser not how you felt about spirit. Yes, we can agree she needs changes, but we all also agree she doesn’t need to be ruined either. Just be happy something is happening and call it a day. Otherwise, get out of this discussion and go complain in the many discussions that are typically titled as so “DONT NERF SPIRIT” (REAL TALK), “SpiRiT Is FiNe”.
bye
It could also be a new original killer who happens to share the same realm as the Spirit much like Nurse and Clown sharing Crotus Prenn Asylum or Huntress and Plague sharing the Red Forest.

I would say the big disconnect in this game is the large spectrum of players and experiences. Example, some people are bringing a team with 3-4 tool boxes, and are on comms and such. In this case even with freddy add ons and gen slowing abilities, you are about to have a game on your hands. A hectic one at that. But if you are someone thats red or purple ranks, you are by yourself, maybe you have a rank 14 thrown into the game and you get rank 3 freddy with all the bells and whistles, your chances of getting a negative 1 are pretty high, in my experience of course. At this point I am in the camp that you need to just realize that playing certain killers sometimes means modifying your tactics. This is a harder thing for people to do than most realize. But for instance, against him, perhaps you have to take stealth very seriously and also take your time as its going to be a long game so pallets are more valuable. I find it interesting for challenges like that as if every killer was easy to defeat and I could use the same tactics on all of them, what is the point of playing the game, right? So I think if people approach the game with that mind set, everyone gets better at the game and as a whole games are more challenging, varied and enjoyable. Excited to hear other thoughts and opinions!
Thank you for sharing your viewpoint. I've often wondered the same thing when reading posts of those at higher ranks. I do think a lot of people have the mentality that they've put in sooooo many hours that they shouldn't have to change up their strategy. This is why every time a change is introduced there is an immediate outcry for the devs to immediately need everything.
It's seems some people are unwilling or maybe feel like they've committed so much time that they shouldn't have to adapt. I also find it interesting that people at red ranks complain about facing the same few killers but they can't see that it's because they've locked themselves into the "meta build" and have stopped being creative with their builds. There are perks that exist that can counter Freddy. They just happen to not be the small handful of perks that top ranked players have chosen to limit themselves to. I'm assuming the Freddy changes were made to try to break people out of the survivor "meta build." Unfortunately some people refuse to make these changes.

Exactly! I mean out of all the DCs you see, against Freddy or anyone else, how many have really valid reasons to DC? 1 out of 100 maybe
This is why I really don't buy the "everyone runs forever Freddy builds" argument. Even if that were the case at red ranks, there are many many people who enjoy this game who are not at red ranks. In fact I assume red rank players are a statistical minority.
@Peanits I hope the devs are paying attention to the amount of interest this thread has generated. I do believe that you all are working on some way of addressing it when dedicated servers are out of the testing phase. I just hope this happens soon since it's clear that a subgroup of this community is actively trying to undermine the BHVR teams' game design choices and ruin the viability of one of the most unique killers in this game.
From reading all of these posts you can see that the majority of players do not condone this behavior and want to see it punished. What is alarming to me is the fact that you have people who see nothing wrong with openly stating on this forum the reasons and circumstances where they feel DC'ing is acceptable.

You have that spare moment to gain distance. Do you play survivor like, at all? Pallets can be used for more than just looping, you know that, right?
I do play survivor. I understand how pallets work. But I also play killer. It just seems to me that this complaint falls into the typical "killer has a new power I don't like, they should change that power." argument. They aren't even his Base kit power. You have to use an add-on to use them.
-
@upsetelcor said:

here's something you may not realize, if you're being tunneled, it doesn't matter if you use your exhaustion perk, use your decisive, or use all the pallets on the map, you're going to be chased down and killed. It doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense from a standpoint of the lore of the character, there's a such thing as balance, and balance and lore don't always go together, look at some of the other killers.
for example, if you got a hatchet lodged in your back, chances are, you would go down immediately. However, because of balance, it takes the huntress two hatchets on average unless she has iridescent head. But her lore says that she's a hatchet wielder, from which you can infer that she knows where to land a killing, or at the very least seriously injuring blow, aka a down. But a little thing called balance says she can only one hit down with an add-on.
The logic that's used in this discussion says that it's Freddy's dream world, he should be able to do whatever he wants. Keyword should. It's just like the huntress, and it's never been told how much power he really has in Dreamworld with the Entity, because you still have to factor her in. She still controls everything in the end.
If it doesn't matter how many pallets you use when you're being tunneled, why would Freddy's pallets stunning him briefly make a difference?

I had 3 killers dc in a row last night in the first couple of minutes. Always when a hex totem was taken out.
Wow. That's pretty sad. If you don't think you can come back from an early game hex cleanse then why are you playing killer at all? Or better question, if you can't handle the idea that you MIGHT lose a match why are you playing this game at all? I understand being competitive but I still can't figure out how someone can rationalize being competitive AND being a quitter.
-
@upsetelcor said:
My only opinion on Freddy is that dream pallets should still stun him, even if it's a shorter stun. If you don't have a flashlight or ds, and you've already used your exhaustion perk, pallets are your only defense, and it's bad enough they're fake- at least give him the stun. I'm so tired of being hit through pallets as it is, let's not add on to that with the dream sh*t.
I've never dc'ed (intentionally- lately the game will crash midgame, thank you devs, very cool) against a Freddy, but those pallets get me itching to do it.
But if you've already used an exhaustion perk to get a second chance why do you need another chance? And how would Freddy being stunned by an illusion that he created make sense?

Most of the DC's I see happen either immediately after a survivor figures out who the killer is or after first dying state before being hooked. Killer is usually near end of match if they haven't hooked anyone. Both seem like players being poor sports to me. Not sure what to suggest to change that.

Have you completed the first tome? You get rift shards after completing challenges so if they are all done that's prob why it seems like you are progressing more slowly. If that's the case it will probably speed up again when the next tome comes out.

It takes 8000 experience points to get one complete level. You average about 500 a game. You do get the 300 free for first killer match of the day and another 300 for first survivor. Seems bloody impossible. Before the rift came out DbD said you could complete the whole thing playing about 2 hours a day. I don't think so.
The event ends on the 13th.
Are you sure? Rank resets happen on the 13th but the rift still has 62? days left. The serum is unlocked through the rift so I don't think it's going anywhere till after the rift closes.

It should be just as easy to win as a survivor as it is as the killer. That's all I'm saying. You said you survive a fraction of the time. I probably escape 1/4 or 1/5 times. Yet as a killer I get 4ks about 60% and at least 3ks 80% of the time. That's not a fair balance.
I have to respectfully disagree. Is is an ASYMMETRIC survival horror. I think by definition, and in keeping with the grand tradition of the horror genre, the killer should win more. Nice stats btw! I play both and get trashed about equally with both. :)

I don't personally think advocating for freedom of speech has undertones of victim blaming though at all.
Misundestandings are part of why I believe in freedom of speech. When we start restricting things there will be someone, somewhere that will find something wrong with anything since it's a very subjective matter. Rules based on subjective matter is a very scary place to be in my opinion as it is a very slippery slope that doesn't really have a definitive end and can be manipulated quite heavily by whatever party may be making said rules.
Anyway I know we have differing opinions, I just enjoy theoretical conversations like this.
No prob. You must not come from a marginalized community. I understand why it can be difficult to put yourself in the shoes of those who are the target of hateful language and rhetoric. We all don't have that luxury.

It’s because no one wants to work on a gen for 45 minutes with your paint brush, jump rope, and/or swing chain add ons. Then they run the Thana/Ruin/PGTW combo to make it even longer. Sorry but next game please
You obviously didn't read through this thread. And how often are you encountering this build? I don't play it as Freddy and I haven't encountered this as a survivor. The problem is people have this attitude when you run ONE slowdown add-on or perk.

That the killers have to improve their skills..
A killer is a one man team, they only need rely upon themselves. A survivor has to rely on 3 other random people of random skill sets, intentions, abilities. If one goes down it severely limits the possibility you can escape (i.e. The point of the game). And even if in the end one survivor does escape, the killer has ended the game for 3 others (a loss for each of them and 3 wins for the killer). We all don't have online friends to play SWF with which makes the game so much harder to effectively escape from (win).
So survivors are always supposed to win? I'm just trying to follow the logic. I get how it is because I play solo survivor too and only escape a fraction of the matches I play. But you are saying the hook time needs to be extended because the KILLER needs to improve their skills? That doesn't make sense to me.

In my experience most of the "camping/tunneling" complaints aren't actually legitimate. They are usually the scenario you described where they made a bad play/decision and you capitalized on it. In this meta you only win BY capitalizing on survivors mistakes. I play both sides a lot and it's VERY rare that someone seriously just gets hard camped/tunneled without good reason. People expect the killer to go to the opposite side of the map after a hook or to not come back after someone gets saved and that's quite ridiculous. If my teammate gives me a stupid save I don't blame the killer for my dumb teammate. He has to capitalize on that mistake for pressure.
OK, I think I'm getting too immersed in the DBD lingo. Was reading your post and thought. . . "What perk is BY?" Then I realized it was capitalized for emphasis. Lol Oh Boy!
