Yes I'm well aware of that example. I acknowledged that there would be players like that that would disproportionately suffer from it but an overwhelmingly majority of players won't have that issue.
Feel like due to how many people youd have to find, it would significantlly increase queue times. Youd need 5 people with none of them having blocked each other. This would be bad enough with solo Q, but then when you factor in SWFs... RIP. A single player in the lobby has you blocked and it would be an entire lobby your locked out of.

Sorry my mistake. They also all had tenacity instead of either streetwise or built to last.
And yeah, I was trying to bait saves to smack whoever attempted a flashlight save, but of course whoever was downed quickly disappeared on me due to no blood and reduced grunting.
I should also add that this was on Rotten Fields. So few walls to look at, and they could crawl anywhere in the corn.
Playstyles like that just annoy me altogether. Typically if your setting up a build not so you can assist your team or yourself with the ultimate goal being to do the objectives but rather for the ultimate goal to annoy the ######### out of someone... just no. You get people who had no intention whatsoever of TOUCHING a gen and just because you ultimately "win" means the last 20 minutes of annoyance should be overlooked.

This makes me think of one extremely awful, TRULY AWFUL match I went against 4 man squad all with the same load out, and it’s the ONLY time I had an extreme problem with (of all perks) No Mither.
No Mither, DS, Street Wise, Built To Last, Purple Flashlights.... times FOUR!!!
My only mistake was not equipping Lightborn in the lobby because I thought “meh, I’ll just slug because I’ll always know someone attempting a flashlight save will be nearby”
It was a futile, hopeless match, and one of the most unfun things I’ve ever dealt with in this game.
Feel like that at least has SOME counter since you could fake picking a person up, then turn around and smack whoever tries for the flashlight save, and facing a wall or something is still an option. In this locker video... the only option was just hitting spacebar until the battery finally died and you can now play the game.

I don't want the perk to do much. I feel that the perk has not done its job of an anti-tunnel perk if the killer literally after the stun can follow your trail to chase and down you to take you out the game. The stun is often time not enough time to get away safely.
So what would you suggest?

Alot of times Ill read posts ike these so I can get a good laugh, although sometimes I do learn something where someone has a point. Im not one who typically has any gripes with flashlights for example, but this video showcasing how 2 flashlights made this duo basicly invincible as long as they had battery power left and could time it right... I could definitely understand some complaints about something like this if someone brought it up. One killer had to force the guy to burn up the entire battery after like 10 saves before being allowed to even START a chase with the guy.

You do realize you replied to me right? Your the one who brought up the "Tying lore into balance is dumb" conversation to me, I elaborated on my point accordingly to make my point clearer.
My point of that was just to pointout that using lore as an argument for balance issues is a weak argument, rather than saying lore shouldnt be implimented in gameplay at all. This is for ANYTHING really, not just Doc. Im not saying they should nerf, buff or change anything for any character, just saying that throwing in lore in a discussion on balance is kinda pointless.
@SCP_FOR_DBD said:

Well yes it should, how a killer feels should absolutely be considered when discussing possible changes. Docs lore is about his quest for information, so his power is designed to give him waaaay more information than average. So his playstyle is information based.
Thats why people play doc, because he gives information. My point was to establish through his lore and power, that doc is an information based killer. I then followed it up with the fact hes not overperforming to show that hes not overtuned balancewise.
So I ask the question, why are we nerfing and information based killers information if they are not overperforming?
This post is what Im pointing at with really doubling down looking at lore for balance thing. Im assuming the last bit about nerfs was moreso directed at OP who was asking for a change in scratchmarks rather than at me.

Still its unfair that after I used DS on a tunneling killer and after their stun was over they still proceeded to tunnel me. There isn't enough time to get away safely, which is why I say its not a good anti tunnel perk.
The perk existing is a deterant of tunneling, and just because you have it equiped doesnt mean you should be immortal or something. What more would you have this perk do?

Unless I'm seriously misunderstanding something that is not at all what your last post implies.
My bringing up of the lore is because its a simple way to demonstrate his design mentality, to establish a backbone of what we can all agree his power should be.
Now of course the simple mention of his design mentality doesn't mean jack for balance, that is something both you and I know and agree on. That is why I keep mentioning that hes not overperforming, it shows that his power is not OP.
You keep focusing on the fact I spent time using the lore to establish his design, and you keep ignoring the part where I actively address his balance. You misunderstand my point, I am in no way using lore as a note for his balance, because that'd be dumb.
So what im reading here...is you're agreeing with EVERYTHING in my original post, lol. This was basicly what I was saying to begin with before you chimed in. I never had any issue with implimenting lore in with game design, just with the balance portion.

I'm Talking about the cases in which its used and doesn't doo much. It not a good anti tunnel perk because after its used the killer has nothing to stop them from tunneling you. Which is not fair and cause people to use it offensively.
When its used offensely is typically when people dont get much out of it. Often times a killer will just slug you out of the fear you MIGHT have DS, giving you some protection both after your first and 2nd hooks without even actually having to use it. If you FORCE the DS (or use it offensely as you put it), the killer no longer has any reason to avoid tunneling you for the rest of the match and will do more than just slug you if they down ya after your next unhook.

Well then we are in agreement my friend. I guess I misunderstood. The ultimate moral of this story is that it's not about the perks; it's about the playstyle.
Do check out the Farmerjohn video though if you have a few minutes to spare. It's perhaps the most potent and hilarious example I've ever seen of a bully squad failing by every measure.
Ive seen alot of his videos, but none recently. I mostly watch Otzdarva, Tofu or Fungoose.
-
Feel like the bigger one is being able to be flashlight blinded after locker grabs. Theres no way to face a different direction while opening a locker to avoid a flashlight. Watched a youtube video recently where 2 guys basicly avoided running from the killer entirely by simply jumping in lockers located next to each other anytime the killer came close. When the killer grabbed one of them, the other would jump out of their locker to get a flashlight save and theyd both jump back in. Theres no outplaying this apart from waiting til their batteries finally run out, in which case NOW they actually have to participate in a chase with you.
-
@TheWarNung said:

That's different. I do the same thing as killer. I won't tunnel survivors under almost any other circumstances, but if you jump into a locker and intentionally waste my time and force me to disarm your anti-tunnel perk, I'm going to consider it open season on targeting you. If you just run away I'll chase the teammate who unhooked you 100% of the time and you can save your DS for later when it might be useful (it won't, but at least you won't have a target on your back).
It's the difference between people bringing DS as insurance against tunneling killers and people who use DS as 60 seconds of invulnerability in which they can pester the killer.
I <3 Ohtofu, but check out this hilarious Farmerjohn video to see exactly what I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pci0ngf8ys0
3 SWF survivors playing Second Chance Perks: The Musical, but doing it all wrong and getting hard countered.
The point of my post was just to point out that forcing a killer to eat DS can often be what causes the killer to tunnel you in the future. In my example, Tofu wouldve probably slugged the survivor if he managed to down them after their 2nd hook, but because he KNEW they no longer had DS... there was no longer a reason for him to do so other than if your just trying to be nice. Frankly, if someone is forcing a DS on me by hoping in a locker rather than TRYING to run away... That politeness goes away once they come off their next hook.

I really feel like you should reread my last post again because your just reiterating alot of what I said while claiming your disagreeing with me. For your Doc post here... Sure, Doc's theme is about information gathering and theres nothing saying his power CANT be based off that. This is why I said its completely ok to have the lore in mind for developing the power in general. On the other hand though, it shouldnt be the arguement when discussing balance. If Doc's power gave him constant mapwide aura reading of everyone... we should be able to call that abit busted without someone chiming in "HIS LORE IS INFORMATION!!!".
Doc is actually a good example of how they used the lore loosely enough to utilize aspects without breaking it. It would actually make more sense lorewise if Doc could predict the survivor's actions rather than...shoot out electricity. Mapwide aura reading though is abit OP though, and even though electricity shooting was in no way at all implied...it still is nice in making him a fun character to play as by giving him another way of interacting with survivors that just M1.

There are currently 69k players in DBD right now on Steam alone as of making this post. If you blocked one person a day, it would take 189 years to block everyone. If you blocked 3 a day, divide that number by 3 (63 years).
I don't think the ability to avoid players would be as damaging as people think. THAT SAID, I understand the reasoning behind not having it.
Keep in mind that youd be trying to find a group of 5 similarly ranked players who dont have each other on their blocklists/ have reasonable ping and are all trying to queue up at the same time. Just because YOU dont have people on a block list, doesnt mean nobody else does which would be effecting your wait time. That 69k people also includes people who are on the other side of the world that you likely wouldnt wanna be placed with.

If you avoid better players then eventually you'll be in noob stomping town before shortly being kicked out into desolate players town. If you abuse the system it literally fixes itself given enough time.
It actually doesnt solve itself as much as you think and still manages to be a HUGE issue for others. Overwatch briefly had this system in its game for example and quickly discovered that one of the best widowmakers in the world was having HORRIBLE wait times due to how many people would block him, not because he was being toxic...but because they wanted to avoid playing against him. It wasnt fair for that player to be effected negatively there and it wouldnt be fair for the same to happen with DBD.

Well, now your making the mistake of assuming a killers lore has to be 1-1 with their power.
Its not a direct copy and paste from a killers lore to the game, its taking a killers lore and interpreting it into a fitting power for the game.
While Myers in the movie may have waited a day to strike at Laurie, DBD matches don't last a day. So how do we keep this part of Myers character in the game? We adapt it to work in the games setting, which is why Myers stalks to tier up.
Part of NOES was that the characters fight to stay awake, so falling asleep every minute but giving multiple ways to wake up represents that fight.
While its true that you could impliment the lore in developing the power, it still shouldnt be focused on for the balance stand point. Bubba's chainsaw for example is a big part of his lore... but the survivors hit by said chainsaw dont have to worry about instantly DYING after getting cut in half by the thing, lol. Focusing on lore in a talk about game balance is a weak arguement and my examples before about Myers and Freddy were simply ment to be silly examples of this.

I suppose when the match starts the survivors are already under the effects of extreme sleep deprivation?...
I just dont get how anyone can fall asleep while running. They dont even slow down, lol. Surprised we dont have an "extreme teen horniness" status effect while were at it since THAT was big in alot of these horror movies, lol.

@SCP_FOR_DBD said:
Some killers lore are tied to their power in some way. Example: Ghost Faces lore told of a murder mystery, so his power has him be stealthy and leave you not knowing where he is.
Doctors lore had him head up an information based program, so his power has multiple information sensors to represent it. Some would say its the best part of his kit.
So why exactly would we nerf an information based killers information? Its not like doc is overperforming.
While I dont agree at all with OP's idea with Doc and scratchmarks... Tying in game balance with killer's lore is abit dumb. If we're using that thought process, Myers would have to stalk Laurie for basicly an entire day before so much as approaching her. Dont get me started on why survivors lose the ability to stay awake for longer than a minute when the killer is a Freddy, lol. Nancy was chugging coffee and staying awake for DAYS in "Nightmare on elm street", but our cast of survivors somehow fall asleep while running every minute.

Spine chill is a good perk but not for the reasons people think. It's good in helping you track the "vision cone" of killers that are hard to get a bead on, such as spirit, and assists you in getting to an advantage tile about 4 meters in advance if you're extra cautious. If you are also familiar with how many m/s a killer covers, you can use this to your advantage to determine when you should start running to a strong tile/using sprint burst etc.
I tend to use both spinechill as well as bond to get a good situational awareness. Often times I might not be able to get a view of whats going on around me if Im working on the gen in the school on badham or something similar, so spinechill is a useful tool to let me know if the killer is coming towards me or if im hearing the TR cuz he just happens to be nearby. That being said, I'm also not going to make it super obvious where I went by leaving abunch of scratchmarks if the killer hasnt actually seen me yet. With the school example, theres multiple directions away from that gen I COULD have gone and theres no reason for me to make tracking me any easier by letting the killer know right away which direction is the correct one.

Pain reliever is an example of a survivor who also knows how to run killers. He's definitely not a one-trick pony in this regard.
Of course, just a survivor who's plan A is stealth. Looping is something that he tends to start once plan A fails (AKA the killer found you). The guy also loves spinechill, lol.

Stealth is situational, and typically not used as a primary strategy by more experienced survivors. This post isn't to say that you should never stealth, ever, but more to highlight how stealth as a first and final approach to the game is not as effective as the alternative strategy. : )
Your original post is basiclly implying that it should be completely tossed though. Your 3rd bullet point is claiming that the situational awareness of spinechill isnt useful in letting you hide because the killer might have a tracking perk. In truth... Even if a killer has a tracking perk like BBQ, you can still manage to stealth away from your gen for afew seconds and avoid an unnecessary chase. While the killer might be 90% sure your still in the area because they spoted you on BBQ... They cant afford to invest too much time looking for you while letting the other gens go unpressured. This is the case MOST of the time with the exceptions being a handful of aura addons/perks that work at close range. If the killer has scratched mirror...no point in hiding. If the killer just has whispers, they only know your in the area but cant afford to waste too much time searching every bush and locker. You wasting alot of the killers time by them checking the area without any luck is JUST as valuable to your team if not moreso than you wasting the killers time by running around in circles of a pallet.

I agree with this. Stealth has it's uses. However if the killer if clearly somewhere else than people need to stop crouching and run. Unless they are saving SB.
For sure. Id say the youtuber Pain reliever is a good example of stealth gameplay done right. he manages to skirt around the killer when needed but stays plenty productive by just maintaining situational awareness.
-
@EvilJoshy said:
If anything it encourages tunneling. Once a killer gets hit by DS they're going to want to finish the job. Most people hate getting hit by it and that survivor no longer has a get out of jail free card.
Basicly, lol. I remember watching an Ohtofu vid where someone was being dumb and forced a DS after their first hook. Tofu started going after 1 of the 2 other survivors he had spotted by the hook, but the freshly hooked guy still wouldnt do anything but hug a locker. Tofu went ahead and ate the DS, then openly tunneled the guy off his 2nd hook because he KNEW DS was no longer an issue for that guy.
-
Ill partially agree with this. If your urban evading from 1 end of the map to the other while the killer is clearly nowhere around... Yeah, your not being very productive. If you manage to stealth away from a gen after spinechill lets ya know the killer is on the way, your still wasting plenty of the killer's time as he has to figure out who was on that gen. Avoiding the killer and not letting him start a chase as he's wasting time searching the area is a POSITIVE thing over getting an extra 5 seconds of gen progress done and allowing the killer to start a chase immediately. While its true that you have players who are TOO immersive which leads to them being unproductive, that doesnt mean there isnt a time and place to utilize stealth.

Too many people like to pretend their own gameplay was perfect, or maybe it was just because of 1 mistake that they lost the entire game. I get a chuckle out of people who cry "gen rush" against a team who didnt use anything to speed up gen repair just because they themselves didnt manage their time properly.

Thats my point. Because the platform YOUR on doesnt allow certain things in usernames... you assume NO console does and therefore...must be PC. Xbox allows spaces.

It stopped bothering me because of when I'd play against pc players and totally prove what they've been saying wrong.
The pc player I've been playing with told me the killer has complimented me as a "console player" several times already. As killer, the survivors clearly on keyboard have barely anything over the controller survivors, the jukes are just as easy to hit once you know they'll use em.
I don't understand the "console players are way worse" Me and my ps4 friends are doing just as fine, and I've seen so many crap pc survivors/killers, I'm starting to think it's the other way around. Obviously neither is true, framerate and the controller can hurt accuracy in gameplay, but I don't think that means a damn thing as there are plenty of pc players without topnotch machines already running at console or even worse framerate. The arguments make minimal sense imo. Maybe it's because I'm on a ps4 pro, but I don't see a single advantage (minus Huntress, DSL, Nurse, and maybe demo/plague) that pc players have. The game still works the same.
Just curious, how do you know which platform theyre playing on?
-
Can you give an example of of what your referring to? Would you mind linking a thread or something. Most of the threads i've seen have been anti-pc with people asking for crossplay to be turned off for PC for 50 different reasons. I've heard people say they want to play with other consoles...but not PC players.
The reasons for this include but not limited to...
1.keyboard and mouse support
2.better FPS
3.supposed hackers (this was common BEFORE crossplay was introduced in that people would assume hackers were way more common than they actually were.)
4.PTB on PC allows people to get good at new content so they can dominate players on consoles when it hits live. Apparently playing a character for a week makes you an expert to the point that you can dominate players with just a handful of perks.
Anytime PC players try to empathize with console problems...well thats being an elitist. If you give any mention that maybe having better control of your character and a higher framerate DOES give you an advantage...then your just bragging about your setup you PC elitist. If you DONT do this however and just want to play with your friends on other platforms...thats just as bad because your not being empathetic to other people up there on your PC master race throne. Seriously...theres no winning.
Its gotten to the point where everything that happens in matches is because of PC players. Survivors you faced were playing well? It MUST have been a PC player. That globe means they were playing on one of 3 possible platforms but YOU know which one it was. Their username had dashes and hyphens in it, which is CLEARLY a sign of a PC (even though many console names have these very things).

I have the Switch version, it’s almost impossible to mimic that movement at 10-15 fps.
And now I'm finding myself paying closer attention when I watch youtube videos. I'm not sure what the naming rules are for xbox and PS4, but if ya check this out...you'll see that dashes and such was actually pretty common among the console players here.

You ask why should 1 perk completely counter another...yet you want iron-will to completely counter stridor. As it stands, stridor DOESN'T completely counter iron-will. The iron-will user is still quieter than normal, so theyre still getting benefit from their perk.
Beyond the interaction between these 2 perks though, theres actually PLENTY of examples of perks countering each other. Calm spirit counters infectious fright for example. Soul survivor and distortion counters every aura reading perk. Inner strength counters anti-healing perks like coulrophobia and sloppy butcher.

How does this even relate to between PC and Console? This sounds more like you realized I was right and threw another random topic to confront me. It doesn't change the fact that that PC has a clear advantage with Framerates and the ability to see a red stain through walls simply by changing the graphics options to low.
Honestly I read the OP as the typical SWFs message with afew words swapped around which Im pretty sure was intended.
You shouldn't punish people trying to have fun with their (friends).
While (comms) gives you an advantage, it doesn't provide you any skill, if the (SWF) player is bad, (SWF) will not make him win the game.
And not all (SWF) players are try hards, some are just people trying to have fun.

PC elitists will never stop making things up to make them feel superior to other platforms. Might as well just ignore them.
At the end of the day everyone playing on the highest level will see there's 0% difference when it comes to platforms ESPECIALLY in a game like DBD.
I've already seen a Legacy Dwight die to a baby Bubba (who couldn't time his charges and thus ended up M1-ing me) in seconds. At the same time I know there's just as many potatoes with fancy skins on console.
Bad/good players will be bad/good regardless of their platform.
Most of the threads ive seen though have been from console players talking NEGATIVELY about PC gamers and PC gamers just wanting to play the game. The amount of threads ive seen requesting crossplay turned off JUST so they dont play against PC players is staggering. Somehow though this still gets twisted to "PC players think theyre elitists" when we just want to play with our friends like everyone else.

I always think its funny when I get accused of gen rushing while the only thing I have that can make gens go faster is spine chill.

This is a fair point but there are often context clues to tell when a killer is camping. If you go near the hook and hear the killer’s heartbeat consistently for like 15 seconds, or see someone get saved from the basement and then both rescuer and rescued instantly go down, it’s not hard to work out what’s going on. Most people ignore this stuff and just immediately rush for the save anyway.
True, but in alot of maps (like this one) even things like heartbeats dont make it obvious. If you were to go to "The Game" for example which is 64 meters by 64 meters, you're going to be hearing the heartbeat of the killer more often than not for the entirty of the game, EXPECIALLY if the killer is using perks that can enlarge it. You think the killer is camping but nah, its someone with monitor chasing your teammate and they just happen to have a 40 meter TR atm.
While I DO understand that people should crank out gens when someone is OBVIOUSLY camping...my point here is that this is a poor example of that and you cant expect these guys to really know what the killer is doing in this example...not YET anyway.

I have nothing to prove to you? Your opinion of me is meaningless. And a free win is a free win, i know why you play him. I found the bubba main though, priding themself on a dunk using a childs net.
How is Bubba a "free win"?

I'm guessing Freedy mains are toxic because they WANT to be FREDDY mains but their mom decided to buy the generic brand.

In all fairness, this is obvious information to YOU because you have kindred. Due to the LOS blockers on this map, it isnt so obvious that the killer is camping.

Hopefully if the MMR gets fixed...it will sort this all out. A player who is unskilled will find themselves against similarly unskilled players rather than feeling the need to apply nerfs because a Claudette thats use to hiding in a bush cant get away with it anymore.
