  • Spirit's not really that great anymore without her top addons, but yeah, Nurse and Blight get to eat well when they're perfectly capable of mass murder addonless. On the other hand, you've got killers like Freddy that have absolutely nothing going for them with or without addons.

Well my Meg is my main so I had to lol btw have I ever had you as a random solo q teammate? I swear I had someone with a similar name recently.

Could be! Don't know if you'd find any other Laluzis out there, and I solo queue most of the time. I'd say I'm usually Jane or Steve, but I was playing tons of characters during this event, so could have been anyone.

And I guess its only fair I share a few of my own. Shortly after Ghostface came out, I was so excited and I decided to give him a try. I remember the map was one of the Coldwind maps, but not 100% sure which one. I absolutely decimated the survivors, and thought..."Oh my goodness, I can't believe I 4K'd like that!"...the reason was it was a free to play weekend and discounted base game/dlc sale time...all 4 survivors only had tier 1 and 2 perks...I told my friends I play DbD with because I felt so bad, and one of them shared a GIF from Star Wars Ep III...the one where Anakin returns to the Jedi temple...you know the one...I still feel bad about that one years later.

The other is from this past 8 months or so ago...while waiting for a Clown queue, I decided to play around and mix and match his cosmetics...I needed to walk away from the keyboard, and 3 minutes later I was in a match...dressed as this:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/Y3LT8MRWM1SE/image.png

To the Survivors of that round; ggs again, and I am so, so sorry... lol it was not an intended ensemble!

You, my good mod, are a fashion pioneer. I unironically want that outfit for my Clown now. Those survivors were b l e s s e d and I'm not taking counterarguments today. Maybe I'll allow it to be blursed.

Also, I'm dying at the Star Wars gif, that's too real--

I once threw a pebble and it landed near a survivor hiding which got the killer's attention and was found.

My pc crashes every time when someone uses a RPD offering or when the map loads up.

I only face camp if I'm playing Bubba and I've only gotten 3 or less hooks by the time 3 gens pop.

I like being clicky clicky towards other survivors.

Oh man, that first one reminds me. Once I was screwing around during an easygoing game and flashbanged my teammate on a gen for lols. I forgot that flashbangs create a loud noise notification... she ended up in the Trapper's basement.

  • That would be overpowered and pretty much mandatory on survivor builds. Even if you're permanently debuffed afterwards, you still have an extra life and that's gamechanging - more gens, more chases. For a perk like that to ever work, it'd have to have some other tradeoff that took place earlier in the trial. Think No Mither.

I also don't know how that would work with killer emblems or the hook counter.

  • @GoshJosh said:

I’d be afraid to buy it.. might get removed from my account. 🤐

I wasn't expecting that one... I choked. xD

Never going to happen, though. They won't add real-life figures as killers or survivors and this is no different. It'd feel super jarring anyway.

  • I remember the game I got adept Wraith, one of the survivors was afk. Between that, like 7 hooks at 4 gens, and Shelter Woods, one of the remaining survivors came up to me and surrendered. I let her pallet stun me a few times and do a gen because I felt bad about the whole thing... but I turned around and murdered her anyway. RIP Jane. Our friendship was not meant to be.

Agree to disagree on Pharmacy, I don't usually find that my random teammates open that many chests per game, so I think you'd still get at least one use out of it- which is enough for a guaranteed heal, so that's still quite good. It's still not the strongest healing tool around, but it's always been pretty decent and it'll remain that way going forward, in my opinion.

I do think you're right it'll encourage more CoH, but that's just because CoH is the strongest option. If that were to be sledgehammered after the patch hits live, people would still have plenty of options for self healing-- because remember, it's not just perks that directly affect healing speeds that help you heal yourself, it's also any perk that affects item efficiency or charges.

The thing with Pharmacy is that it's just not good enough to be as unreliable as it is. You can't walk by a chest and go "aha, I'll take this for later" like you used to. You now have to take note of where chests are throughout the match, and when you're injured and unoccupied, run across the map to those chests and hope they're still in the state you left them in. If they are, great, you just wasted plenty of time with map traversal. If they're not, great, you wasted even more. And you'd better hope the killer doesn't see you running around, because you're a juicy injured target.

At that point, you may as well just ask the person who unhooked you to heal you. Or go to the boon your teammates have probably set up. Or bring that boon yourself, because it's better and more reliable than PTB Pharmacy. It was way more convenient to be able to have the emergency medkit when you needed it than to restrict when you can obtain it until after you need it. The ability to do this multiple times is not a good enough exchange when chests are such a limited commodity anyway.

Re:item charges, the only one that's at all viable is Built To Last, and that one is specifically not amazing with medkits due to the 99% recharge and the commonality of Hemorrhage. Like, if you bring a ranger medkit with gel dressings and BTL, you're getting plenty of value out of that bad boy, but you were probably set for heals before you added the perk into the equation. An emergency medkit with BTL, not so much. With the right addons, you could stretch one uninterrupted heal into two, but old Botany was better for that anyway.

Overall I think we have less viable options for self-heals than before, not more of them. Which is fine if their intent was only to make sure nobody runs the old meta perks, but I don't think that was a good or helpful design philosophy.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3041867#Comment_3041867

I meant either/or. Emergency Medkits are very very strong, and hypothetically getting more than one per match from one perk, provided you can find a chest, is pretty good. Similarly, Botany makes medkits better, and medkits are already a very very good source of self healing.

Pharmacy is currently worse than before. The multiple chances come at the price that you can't get your medkit until you have your first chase and then either escape or get unhooked, meaning that unless it's high MMR and Corrupt Intervention isn't in play, it's pretty likely Meg has already opened half the chests on the map and you have no idea where the other one/two are.

Botany no longer has the item efficiency attached to it, so while it does speed things along and it's great for a healing build, bringing it with a medkit isn't the wombo combo it was before.

Mostly this is going to encourage more CoH. Or just medkits.

I meant it more as jasons teaming with one of their friends to kill everyone else. It always killed the enjoyment of the game for me and it was too common.

And that's yet another reason voice chat in DBD would suck. Again, didn't think of that, but absolutely a thing where survivors would sell out their teammates for bargaining, revenge over any perceived slight, or just straight-up trolling. You can't really pantomime that you know where Jeff is when he's on the other side of the map and you're 2 seconds from going down, but anyone can walk and talk. You figure, so many players ragequit when they get first or third downed - how many of the people that flip the table when they lose wouldn't ruin the game for everyone else out of petty spite?

  • The only reason to nerf the perk was to get people to stop running it. Balance-wise, it was completely fine, and it was mostly outclassed by other self-healing perks. Now it's a joke at best and a noob trap at worst. Anyone who runs it is an active detriment to their team.

Seriously, the only situation where this perk is better than CoH is if one of your teammates runs around cleansing bones for a tome challenge. Same with Inner Healing. There is no conceivable edge to Self-Care anymore.

  • @Shaped said:

That is the only thing I disliked about ft13th which also allowed jasons to team up with counselors easier.

I prefer dbd the way it is.

That's another good point. Farming, especially temporary teamups for achievements and rift challenges, would shoot through the roof. I wouldn't hate that myself (well, just the rift challenges, because points farming every other game is boring as sin), but there's no way BHVR wants that to happen.

I was mostly thinking about the streams I've watched where the Jason was shrieking into the mic or ranting about replacement theory, but the non-games are an issue too.

  • @foxsansbox said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/332588/achievements

I understand and accept your argument, but I do disagree with the locker one as evidence (You can use any of the older, shittier ones though)

I can't force survivors to jump into lockers and I actively check for them so I can complete this achievement, and I'm still not done.

Now I feel kind of lucky. My MMR was tanked from all the friendly play I did during the event, and young players love lockers. More than that, they love getting into lockers right as BBQ fires or while I'm approaching and can see them slipping in.

That said, if you get a SWF that wants to double locker blind you, you can probably get the whole achievement in one go.

  • On the one hand, it's probably the only thing that can truly fix the solo queue/SWF gap. On the other hand, people in this game are so habitually nasty that I can't imagine it would end well. People would be constantly hurling abuse at each other and BHVR has no way to monitor it. Like, do you really want to know what that clicky-clicky-teabagging Nea or the hook-denial bully squad or the Bubba that keeps hitting you on hook or the Wraith that's bleeding you out has to say to you?

  • The locker achievement came out less than a month ago. Everyone who's ever played the game but hasn't been on last month is excluded, so of course it's low.

As for Nurse, yeah. But as Aven_Fallen already said, you have to figure that the achievements factor in everyone who's ever booted up the game. If I look at Steam's achievements, only 51.8% of players have gotten past Ash IV (or rank 20, which was the same thing.) And out of that percentage, how many people played for a day and got bored, tilted, or decided they just didn't like the gameplay? The "do common things a large number of times" achievements have low percentages because only people who stuck with the game for any significant length of time played enough to achieve htem.

Also, Nurse isn't a killer for beginners, so I'm not surprised hers is low even for individual killer achievements. 500 blinks is quite a few matches, especially for a baby Nurse.

    3 medkits summons a Plague 😂

It's true. We can detect them from miles away. They smell like lemons.

  • I think Wooden Plank is fine as is. It's definitely one of the better Exposed addons they've done and I've seen plenty of Dredges get value out of it. Maybe 15s, but 25s is too much.

Sacrificial Knife needs a ton of love, though. And I really like your change to War Helmet - BHVR needs to learn that lengthening killer instinct is utterly inconsequential. We keep getting those addons and they're never any good. The effect you've proposed is really interesting and sounds fun for a more jumpscare-oriented build.

  • The impression I'm getting from the choices they've made in this prestige overhaul, and their reluctance to address any of other the concerns being brought up (chiefly 'why is there a forced prestige tax', 'this makes good items harder to access', 'why is there still a 1m bloodpoint cap', and 'this is still really bad for brand new players'), is that they're still stuck on this idea of a bloodpoint economy and think bad things would happen if people were allowed to accumulate comfortable amounts of bloodpoints.

There's a few reasons why they could want this - they don't want people to be able to play good addons very often, or they think the grind helps with the longevity of the game - but it doesn't change the apparent fact that they're not that interested in reducing the grind.

  • I don't think Gift of Pain will be any good on Plague. You can stay injured or just deliberately get sick again and it won't do anything. Tbh, it'll mostly be the same with Legion. Good survivors won't bother healing unless the Legion isn't frenzying much.

Dying Light doesn't really work unless you're playing Plague with apples and Lethal Pursuer and you go ham with Corrupt Purge at the start of the game. And at that point, your build can't be specced for maximum slowdown.

Thana will be very annoying, though. But it's already annoying, and I prefer Plaything when it comes to game-long slowdown on her anyway. (Legion, Plaything's awful and Thana is king... but I don't play much Legion anyway.)

LOL I'm stealing this, because it's true and so many survivors share that logic. "Better go down at shack, get put in basement, and throw the game instead of throwing this single pallet"

I once had a survivor sandbag me throughout the rest of the game (refused to heal/be healed, fast vaulted near me whenever he saw me, bitched in endgame chat) for using shack pallet in a chase that bought me ~45 more seconds of running. Apparently it was "too early" in the game to "waste" it.

People really do worship at the altar of god pallet.

  • Seeing four items in the lobby, particularly medkits or toolboxes, increases the odds of the killer bringing Franklins or nasty addons (or just dodging and guaranteeing your next killer is a total mismatch.) Also, I hoard stuff on certain characters and The Numbers are more important to me than chipping a few seconds off a gen.

  • Suffo Pit for me too. The chained gyms and TLs in the middle are just insane. You can waste minutes there against a good survivor even if the pallets are already gone.

Garden of Joy's main building. As killer, I still haven't figured out what the hell to do there other than "don't bother."

Haddonfield's double window houses. For the most part, it's the same thing.

  • Huh. I would have thought this one was a given because it coincided with Super Flan Party. It happens, though. I missed out on Rift 8 because I was totally burned out at the time.

Just out of curiosity, do you play survivor, killer, or both? I find the killer challenges are usually "play like you were going to play anyway" and the survivor challenges are "grind the hell out of this one thing" or "throw the game, kek." The rift's usually a lot more manageable on the killer side.

  • Did he look around before finding you in the locker, or did he go straight for the locker? The latter can only be explained by killer instinct (or cheating), but for the former, there's a couple of things that could lead him to your area; map crows, returning to the last area they knew you were in, even process of elimination. Heck, it's possible he was looking for hatch and heard you. Even if you weren't injured, survivors make a gasping sound if the killer walks by their locker - it's extremely quiet, but you can pick it up with a headset. It's hard to say without knowing how you behaved in the rest of the match and if there were any patterns the killer might have picked up on.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/332464/killers-on-how-fun-they-are-to-go-against

I'm curious as a Plague main, what makes the difference for you on if that player is fun to go against or not?

As another Plague main, I'd guess that it has a lot to do with mass slugging? That or thana slowdown builds. Plague is open to a lot of different playstyles, and everyone else in that tier seems to have a similar shtick where there's one thing everyone hates going against - people don't like speedrun Nurses, basement Hags, camping Bubbas, or pinky finger Clowns either.

(Edit: D'oh, didn't notice the OP replied. Well, I guessed right, at least.)

Anyway, wow, that list doesn't have much overlap with mine. Your "Fun!" tier is half filled with killers I like versing and half that I'd put at the very bottom. But it's pretty cool to see just how wildly people's takes differ.

Exactly what I came here to say. There's nothing wrong with Oni's current TR and chase, but damn, the first version blows it right out of the water for character atmosphere and jamming potential.

this is cool! I hope we get a USA charm for July 4th.

BHVR's a Canadian company, so probably not. Doing anything other than a nod to themselves opens up the door for "why isn't my country represented" complaints-slash-requests. TBF, even this much opens themselves up to that.

I like pairing it up with the maple syrup charm, though.

  • Just out of curiosity, were you counting yourself towards survivor flans? If you were always bringing a flan, that kind of skews the data on "do random people bring event offerings?" Could just be MMR brackets/individual samples, but I was seeing more variance in survivor offerings. (Killer offerings look right, though - maybe a shade luckier than I was. Moris were pretty common sights in my survivor games.)

I'd also be curious to know how many (if any) of those killers were farming or let people go, since that kill rate looks low.

Damn, though, it looks like you had some nice games. You only fell sub-10k once out of almost 60 matches.

You know if the collab skins are cool and popular people would want them no matter what, right?

I mean Fortnite, the biggest MP game has this exact system.

Cosmetic profits are always frontloaded, is what I'm saying. You get the initial burst of hype when something is first released, then a taper to a steady, lower level as new players/existing players that spend some but not a lot of money on the game purchase existing outfits that they're interested in.

Royalties obviously account for high/low volumes of interest, but if you're paying a certain amount to renew a license, what you get from quarterly sales of a Hag skin, an Artist skin, and a Jane skin might not necessarily cover that, depending on how much the other partner wants for the rights. In that case, the limited cosmetics make more sense (well, they always make sense from the corporate perspective, but in this case they make sense in a model that isn't deliberately predatory.)

DBD emulating Fortnite is not a good thing from where I'm standing?

Where on earth did you get those two ideas from? I think Self-Care is a bad perk. Now. On live servers. That's kind of why it had to get nerfed, its alternatives were already better and thus couldn't be buffed that hard without risking making them broken. "Not useless" does not, in any way, translate to "good". It translates to "not useless".

As for solo queue, I don't think it's fine in general, I think it wasn't negatively affected by this patch unduly, because it wasn't. There's a gigantic difference between those two statements.

...Why do you think Self-Care being a bad perk means it needed a nerf? The way those concepts work in my brain, you're supposed to buff a bad perk, not make it worse.

  • I've seen streamers on both sides who are mature and praise their opponent's moves or explain their strategy, or who shittalk constantly and blame the game for their own mistakes. If you're referring to the most popular streamers across the years, you have a point, but streamers in general, no.

    Meet your new teammates.

But yeah, seriously, this is going to be a mess. Not only is CoH flat-out better in every way again, but newbies are still going to see Self-Care and pick it because they're scared of being injured. So baby Claudettes are going to go from nuisances to basically AFK unless they're also running Botany.

There was zero reason to nerf this perk. It was balanced just fine.

  • I already had most of the perks, so all this does is make it way harder for me to get good items in the bloodweb between the forced low levels and the removal of BBQ/WGLF.

Also, the prestige tax is such a bizarre addition on a patch that is purportedly meant to reduce the grind that I can't respect it.

This is how I interpreted it too, like maybe they want to do something similar to the upcoming Attack on Titan cosmetics, but with a license that only lets them sell for a limited time. I'm honestly not 100% against it, though I do think it's better not to do that if they don't have to.

This question and the "what about rewards to recruit your friends!!" questions made me worry that they're running out of money, though.

Huh, I hadn't considered that. If we were talking about licenses that weren't going to be added to the game as full chapters or paragraphs, but were more like Crypt TV in that an original character gets a skin for a character from some other property, that would make much more sense as a limitation of the deal they made than deliberately inflating sales through panic. Since once the initial burst of interest dies off, I'm not sure the profits from a deal like that would even sustain what they'd have to pay for the license over time.

Also, yeah, there was really no other way to interpret the referral thing. 😂 Sorry, guys, but you've got to clean up the community before I'm recommending this game to anyone. I'm not willingly sending anyone into the new player experience pit.

? Demo has great iri addons and Hag best addons are green/purple. Anyway, the addon grind (which always the most problematic one) seemingly is about to get even worse indeed. This mid chapter update truly is looking grim in every way.

They both have super playable browns and yellows, though. Hag's are only a small step down from the greens and you hardly notice the difference, and Demo's addicted to Black Heart and Barb's Glasses even more than the dope aura reading from Leprose Lichen. And Hag's only good purple is Rusty Shackles; the rest are awful. Mostly, those killers can live without having consistent access to their higher-end stuff, where killers like Trapper and Doctor are going to hurt for it.

The specifics don't really matter, though, as long as the point that everyone's going to lose steady access to higher rarity items and offerings stands.

  • @th3 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/332190/just-did-the-new-survey-and

As a counterpoint, it could be that certain cosmetic concepts the devs want to try wouldn't be permitted by the license holder unless it was limited time item.

I'll believe that when I see it. Like, if we were to get swim trunks shirtless Myers in the middle of July... okay, I can believe that BHVR was only allowed to do that as a Very Special Offer. But if the new Halloween movie drops and we get Myers' movie outfit available for a month as a promo, I'm calling BS that it had to be that way.

Still. In that specific case, I'd rather have something than nothing - though I don't like the very convenient and profitable gateway it opens.

I'm also pretty sure they actually cited this as one of the reasons for removing the BP bonus from BBQ, so that players weren't pressured to buy a licensed killer just to grind BP effectively.

Huh. That does sound familiar, actually. In that case, there's much more credence to the idea.

Still weird to take that stance this late in the game, though.

  • @Seraphor said:

I would assume that they don't want to have a meta perk on a licensed character, as it makes the game pay-to-win. Instead, they've replaced it with a similar meta perk on an original survivor.

I'm going to have to press X to doubt on that one simply because that was the case for 5 years. If anything, we'd just gotten to the point where DS wasn't mandatory on every survivor loadout.

    Was a typo, fixed now.

A killer doesnt have to be an instadown to down an already injured person though. So if the killer still goes for the unhooked it will be a free kill.

If BT is involved or there's more than one survivor that came to rescue, they'll get behind the vulnerable player and form a shield. Instadowns prevent bodyblocking extractions because everyone is equally downable, but otherwise the survivors are home free unless the gate is on the other side of the map.

Without an instadown, the kill is only reliably secure when there's just one survivor coming to the rescue and you can force a hook trade, or again, the hook is far from the gate and you can get in more than one hit.

If annoying players are your problem, you're correct that they'd all move somewhere else and removing a killer solves nothing (ergo, why would you ever do that.)

But generally speaking, Dredge's art direction seems so fertile for so many wild and cool cosmetics, I'm super excited to see what more comes out for them!

Oh my god, I loved that thing. The splash of water instead of the shadowy body and the flamingo replacing its curvy neck and head was one of the most genius takes ever. I can't see it ever happening, but I want it all the same.

    It's beautiful...

The point of the end game nerf was to not allow DS to provide a free escape (granted, new OTR still allows that, so...)

I don't really know the point of the stun time nerf.

To be honest, the only way I can rationalize the stun nerf was that they wanted people to stop running the perk. Same with Self-Care. It feels more like trying to force perk variety than a nerf as a result of the perk's strength or how it was used.

How about just don't tunnel? Go for the unhooker.

How is that concept so foreign for so many killers?!

Ironically, Off The Record is more dangerous for killers that don't tunnel. Both DS and OTR could be used aggressively, but OTR lets you bodyblock and take hits for other people the killer is trying to chase.

I almost never tunneled before, and I dislike the strength and prevalence of tunneling as a strat, but now I'm going to whack everyone I can right off hook just to stop this nonsense from unfolding.

I would avoid involving them in any way to be safe. Even if you're not keeping them there, you gotta' keep in mind how it'll look from their perspective. The other survivors and the killer are working together and now they're being farmed off the hook.

That's fair. It also sometimes gets tricky where friendly survivors in a non-friendly team are involved, when you as the killer don't want their help but they take it upon themselves to point out where their teammates are or try to bodyblock them towards you, and you're left going "..." because you can't do what you wanted to do in an honest way anymore.

Thanks for the answer! Appreciate the clarification.

  • I really loved Wraith's The Fire Within cosmetic - the subtle burning effects, especially on the shroud and the weapon, were really cool and it became a favorite as soon as I laid eyes on it. Something similar on Plague, a holy fire/sacrificial pyre sort of deal with a burning crown and a censer of raging flames, would be awesome.
