1.Your main objective is to do gens which isnt hard at all lmao 2.You only have to go for hook when no one else on your team will or if you're the closest one near them which again isn't hard 3.You only have to get totems if it's a dangerous or powerful hex perk like devour, Ruin doesn't need to cleansed and you can still easily gen rush with it up 4.Exit gates are only an objective at the very end lmao, This entire post sounds like you complaining because you just want the basic vanilla killer that doesn't add anything to the game and I've literally never heard of a survivor actually complaining about doing the very basics of the game and dare I say...actually playing the game so that tells me you're probably new lmao.

Well, truth be told I'm a Rank 4 survivor with 148 hours of game time so... Go figure I guess?

I mean, if playing survivor is so easy and playing killer is so hard, then why do you play what you play?

I don't say those things cuz each roles have equally difficult things to do.

I don't go around saying: Hitting survs using M1 isn't hard at all lol. Pressing spacebars to pick up and hook them isn't hard at all lol. All you need to do is run around the map and chase them which isn't hard at all lol.

I mean, if you disagree fine, but first learn to respect each other's opinion before you voice yours.

  • @Nubgutter said:

So you're annoyed because certain killers make you actually do something besides do the ez hold M1 on a gen and gen rush tactic?

Well, I never stated pressing M1 was hard or perplexing...

What's up with this forum lol.

I said I just don't like having to do other additional things when I already have to look out for 3+ things to do as a main objective.

BTW, all the stuff that we need to do against these utility heroes are all M1 + spacebars so your argument is pretty off topic lol

I get that, I personally don't like versing certain killers either because they kinda force me to play in a way that isn't fun in my opinion.

Like Trapper. He is genuinely a weak killer but oh my god is his traps annoying.

I much rather face an Infinite Tier 3 Myers, at least I have a chance of escaping if my teammates knew what they were doing. Can't really do that with Trapper if you get unlucky and step in one of his traps.

Though personal preference aside, I think we can all agree that the one thing we want most when we play Survivor is to juke and outplay the Killer during a chase. And certain Killers does make doing that harder and easier for them, but that just means you need another strategy to beat them.

I just got off a wonderful, AMAZING game against Freddy while I was doing Kate's Sing Another Day challenge, and it honestly was one of the most fun games I've ever had in Dead by Daylight. Everyone was double hooked, I finished a gen at the last second and we all escaped almost losing a teammate because the gates spawned so close to each other.

A lot of things should've made that game a losing battle for the Survivors but we somehow got through it with a 4-man Escape, it was exhilirating and amazing.

I think the problem with Utility Killers, at least in my opinion, is that sometimes your teammates just refuse to play any other way making it difficult for you as a Survivor and easy as the Killer because they attempt to try and same strategies over and over again, which these killers definitely hard counter.

You cannot just ignore Pig's RBTs, you have to use that time trying to get it off your head.

You can spend time to run towards an Alarm Clock and wake yourself up against Freddy, but you may be wasting more time than you will probably get back if the clock is on the far side of the map.

And you can cleanse with Plague, but that will only give her access to her more powerful kit or you can risk leaving yourself one-downed as to not give her the power she wants to have.

It's all about risks, really, these killers force a second objective onto you and they pose a threat if you do not complete them in time or complete them correctly.

    Well said, well put.

I just don't like having to worry about different things on top of doing gens, cleansing totems, unhooking players and opening gates.

I know they are to prevent those things from happening easily, but my gawd are they annoying to verse 😅

At least, the new Pyramid Head ain't too utility dependent thank god.

  • @DelsKibara said:

Wait wait, Pig gets free alerts if she uses her power? She only gets that if she uses an Add-On, which doesn't mean it's free.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/4RFM3CJLXEB6/2020-06-01-20-54-39-template-add-ons-jigsaws-baptism-pig-official-dead-by-daylight-wiki.png

Plus, I would argue it tends to be more of a hinderence to her than any kind of help, because patrolling nearby Jigsaw Boxes are always a good idea especially if a Survivor was recently unhooked.

Also, Tier 1 Madness isn't really a hinderence, like seriously, have you actually played against enough Doctors? Tier 1's skillchecks are not as frequent as Tier 2 or 3, plus they also don't really show the Doctor's aura near you meaning he doesn't have tracking over you. (At least last I checked.)

And you don't have to ALWAYS be awake with Freddy, if you're asleep, stay asleep until you need to wake up. Like if Freddy isn't nearby, then just stay asleep. Chaining both Swing Chains and Rope Swing (his two most "powerful" slowdown add-ons) only gets him 9 seconds btw, so staying asleep while he isn't an immediate threat should definitely be your top priority. You of course should wake up when you can, but when he isn't nearby, stay asleep.

Also Plague's pools are often out of the way and out of reach, even if she has that information on where you cleansed, she most likely won't go towards you because it's a waste of your time. She is only notified of which pool has been cleansed, but not where the hell you went.

Yeah Yeah, I know all the ways of countering them and how they work.

    It's tedious. That's my point.

PS. Sorry about the Pig statement, I should've been more clear. Free as in the addon + Jigsaw Boxes going wild when it's wrong.

Of course, one player will have the advantage in that situation. That was never in dispute. The question was not whether the advantage exists, but whether it is so pronounced that it defines the outcome of the match in most cases.

If DBD really were so broken that having the best perks, items or add-ons usually guaranteed a win, then (a) no one who isn't a glutton for punishment would ever play anything but, and (b) the developers would have noticed that being reflected in the statistics and done something about it long ago. We can't know for certain without looking at the stats ourselves, but the fact that neither of those things is the case would strongly suggest that powerful loadouts are not as much of a deciding factor as you're claiming.

Blaming devs for stuff is the last resort I'd want to take since they are usually the scapegoat for everything. Therefore, I'm not going to comment anything about devs doing what.

People complained about smth for years and devs only recently did smth about it. That said, I think looking at devs for answers is pretty unreliable.

"the developers would have noticed that being reflected in the statistics and done something about it long ago."

    Yes, true.

I believe (hypothetically), that if the best items/perks/addons were available for everyone in a much higher frequency, the stats would prove to be shown clearer. With that said, the low probability of someone using a powerful tool is simply due to the lack of abundance.

Coming back to my own analogy, if a war happens with pistols vs machine guns, sure if the soldiers are inexperienced and know nothing of guns then yes, regardless of what weapon they use, it'll all be useless.

But, once again I repeat, playing on the same even playing field, items will and are carrying players to have easier games. This means the more BP you spend/invest, the better experience you'll have in playing. I find that pretty revolting to be honest.

Damn, making me feel inadequate with those ranks after that playtime!

How do you prefer to play as survivor, in terms of your focus and your perks? What specific things frustrate you, other than just red items and offerings?

I'm pretty solid with my perks.

I don't play SWF, since that seems too unfair for the killer and I don't run DS nor DH simply because that stuff gets boring and literally adds fuel to the fire.

My most common perks are: Spine Chill, Borrowed time and Iron Will(!). The last slot usually changes depending on who I play. Smaller characters (usually female characters) I may run smth like quick & quiet and if necessary, I'll probably run Technician.

But regarding the frustration part is the whole toxic cycle that revolves around dominating one another.

I see frequent DCs happen on both sides when survivors or killers use really powerful items/addons especially the higher the ranks go up.

In some way, I find lower rank matches (especially after rank reset) to be more enjoyable than red ranks!

DCs, trolling, BMing happens WAY more often the higher you go and that sucks.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1317708#Comment_1317708

I think DBD might be more complex than you're giving it credit for. Obviously we can't make a direct 1:1 comparison between the two, since there are always going to be differences to point out, but for the purposes of this argument, champions and their abilities in LoL are comparable to different loadout combinations in DBD. In both games, playing the meta, whether it's a particular champion or a particular set of perks, will tend to give the average player an advantage, but a good player can play whatever they like and still do well, because at the end of the day those things aren't what differentiate successful players from unsuccessful ones.

What both League and DBD have in common with each other, and with all competitive multiplayer games, is that it's not what you have that matters but how you use it. Knowing how the mechanics of the game work, and being able to predict your opponent, are what make a good player good, not how much gold or bloodpoints they have.

Of course, that's true for all games regardless of what you play.

But in this case, DBD nor LoL matches people with ranks/skills on the other side of the scale.

i.e. you'll never play with a Bronze when you yourself is in fact a diamond+. Same with DBD.

There is a thing called MMR and with that in mind, we should think in a match where everyone has similar skill level.

In that situation, the whole item thing becomes more important/crucial than you suggest they'd be.

If you are on a battlefield, versing another soldier who has a similar level of capabilities/skills, the chances are that it'll be totally unfair if that person used a powerful weapon when let's say you are holding a pistol.

Like I state again, if we were on even playing ground with equal handicaps than fine, but in this case and most cases, it'll be biased once better items come in to the picture.

  • @Rydog said:

OP, I know you are posting this in frustration, but what you're describing is not as grim as you think it is. Game sense and map knowledge have a lot more to do with your prospects than your build. Your build can definitely give you advantages, but you eventually reach a point where everyone is essentially on even footing, in that regard.

How much time do you have in the game? Is there anything specific that you're having a hard time with? What role are you playing, and what perks are you using? We can probably help you have a better time.

Okay, you asked me lots of questions so let me dissect your post to give you some intel on my part:

"[...]you eventually reach a point where everyone is essentially on even footing, in that regard."

Although I get what you are trying to say, but with items and perks that literally provides easier access to certain objectives, there is never going to be even footings, ever. That said, unless the entire team of survivors have the same quality of items as each other + the killer and so on, maybe. But using my logic and theory? It's VERY VERY VERY unlikely that smth like that will be remotely close to even. Especially in a game like DBD.

"How much time do you have in the game?"

    148 hours/Rank 4 Surv/Rank 8~9 Killer

"Is there anything specific that you're having a hard time with?"

Nothing really, but the game becomes stale once people start using strong/somewhat OP items/perks/addons.

I have to run the same quality of items/builds in order to counter them and that's no fun at all.

"What role are you playing, and what perks are you using?"

I enjoy playing both but survs mostly and my perks depend on what I feel like doing. I try to stay away from the whole "this is meta" stuff cuz it ruins the fun as it already is.

Of course it makes the game easier, that's the entire point of having perks, items and add-ons. But none of them, with the exception of maybe a handful of ultra-rares, sway the balance so far in one direction that it notably affects the outcome of the match from the outset.

I don't know whether this analogy will mean anything to you or not, but it's like saying that League of Legends is just a game of "who can kill the most minions". Minions give gold, and gold buys items, and items make your champion stronger, so it's an important part of getting ahead early, but it's not even close to being what defines the outcome of most matches, let alone the game itself.

Yeah I get that analogy since I've been playing that game since 2013.

But LOL is completely different from DBD as that game has multiple heroes who have separate, totally unique skill sets with different roles to fulfill while DBD only has the same set of perks with the exact same objectives. No roles and no variety.

What makes ultra rare + best items/perks matter more in DBD than LOL is that since there are so few objectives to work on, these items literally carry players to either: finish objectives way earlier than intended, drastically increase survival OR provide easier blows, simply killing them all.

If DBD was as complex as LOL then I'll agree with that statement, but in reality? PPPffff, not a chance.

And you'll see why and how it affects the games since literally one every five posts about this game is "____ is OP. Get rid of it."

  • @[Deleted User] said:

That argument is foolish because you are the minority. the VAST majority of survivors in red ranks tend to use DS or DH, sometimes both

I mean, okay let's assume your logic has some level of factual truth.

Then, does that mean DS/DH = NOED?

I've had matches where I won plenty without the two mostly mentioned perks and killers still had NOED.

Now, if DS/DH was OP as killers say they are, then how is it possible I win quite a few times?

My point is, I think killers are too reliant on NOED and like Fibijean stated, should try smth else to win rather than relying on it too much before it gets nerfed or smth.

I'm kinda on killers' sides on this.

I really wish you'd rephrase this...

You use it because it's one of the only Perks that allows you to have a chance of winning after you've, for all intents and purposes, already lost.

I'm pretty sure SWF are less common than dead zones and proxy camping (at least in my region and/or on my platform). Are you really taking the time to check profiles and friend lists? After all, that is how you confirm a SWF exists.

I'm semi on board with this.

I also think SWF is not THAT common as some killers might think.

  • @Quol said:

So why not bring along perks to lessen the effects of luck? For example a perk that allows you to get kills even if you were unlucky.

    I mean, still.

    Luck is luck.

Just because I lessen the probability doesn't mean I'm free from such coincidence :P

    Back to the topic though.

I'm only interested in the overall occurrence of the perk.

I see DH and DS everywhere. And with SWF's NoED is useless: They always leave one totem, tell eachother where the totem is, and cleanse it when endgame hits.

But with your logic, then nobody should run NOED, but so many still do.

    At least for my matches...

  • @Fibijean said:

From what I've heard, everyone who used to rely on Ruin to slow the game down enough that they could win now relies on NOED to secure last-minute kills instead. There has been a popular, and largely false, idea floating around since the Ruin rework that it's no longer possible for killers to apply enough pressure to kill all survivors prior to the endgame, so NOED is necessary to compensate. That kind of thing tends to be self-perpetuating - the more people believe it, the more people do it, and the more they do it, the more it solidifies their belief that it's the only viable strategy. In reality, most killers have adapted and are getting along fine without Ruin (or NOED) now that the shock has worn off, but for some that kind of mentality can be hard to shake.

    Totally true.

I've seen Hex: Ruin after changes and it was still pretty devastating.

I just don't understand why NOED is a must.

I'm a survivor and I don't use DS or DH.

  • @Quol said:

What can a killer do when, based on pure luck of spawn, a gen pops before he finds a single survivor?

Because it's one of the only perks we have that allows us to have a chance of winning when games end in under 5 minutes and SWF groups are everywhere.

I could say the same thing about D. Strike, and Dead Hard. Every Survivor uses them because they work.

I only see 1 DS in every 3 matches or so and DH is a little more frequent than that.

But NOED is just everywhere at this point.

I don't mind it, but it is pretty getting boring...

It's the phenomenon that intrigued me.

"Survivors are technically the same thing altogether (not to mention stale), but they don't fly across maps."

Sorry if I misunderstood this, but that's exactly how it sounds.

Also, as I stated before, people play survivor because they like the gameplay. Almost everybody I've seen speak on the subject agrees that it doesn't make a difference which survivor you pick. That's why I say killers would be "stale." It wouldn't matter which one you pick.

    Sorry you misunderstood this.

That was in a cynical context mocking the previous comment who first brought up the whole "stale" thing.

I don't find survivors stale. They are pretty unique to me. So should killers too.

  • @Huff said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1256283#Comment_1256283

You say that survivors are stale (because they're all the same)

You say killers shouldn't be teleporting, which I'm guessing means you want them all to be similar to each other and be chasing killers, by the way you say it's a "chasing game."

But you don't think killers would be stale if they were all the same? Even though you say survivors are?

Whether you said "(A) is a silly argument because (B)" or not, you're still ignoring the part that I pointed out where you say that survivors being all the same is stale, and the fact that a lot of people enjoy playing killer more specifically because they stand out from each other while the survivors don't. That's why I'm asking these questions. Sounds like you're just saying that survivors are stale and that you want killers to be stale too and that killer variety doesn't matter.

Also, comparing killer being the same / or having the ability to "fly everywhere" to survivor isn't valid. They're two different roles. This game is 1v4, not 1v1.

Okay first of all, I never stated survivors are stale. If I did go find it for me cuz u won't.

What I did say was that killer mains complaining that things will get stale is not true since survs are not very unique but plenty of people still play.

Actually, as @MadLordJack pointed out, Demo and Nurse travel fast, while Hag and Freddy teleport. You can still juke all of them if you see them teleporting.

Survivors being unique is not necessary for the gameplay to be unique. A killer has to learn how to counter every survivor mechanic/perk, imagine passives and such. Survivors have to the same with killer perks/mechanics. It would mess up the tedious balance there is within the game. There can only be so many random elements. Making survivors consistent is a good thing. There is only 1 killer, but 4 survivors. Having 4 survivors with their own mechanics, plus perks, plus keeping track of DS and what perks they have... balancing nightmares.

Still, it is better for killers, who are going against 4 people every match, to have an inherent advantage against every 1 survivor.

I mean I understand your point about killers having to learn surv perks and stuff but how about vice versa?

Survs have to learn multiple unique killers with each and own dedicated abilities, items and mechanics.

TBH learning is way harder for survs than killers imo.

You see how clown ended up? Most killers have a way to travel around the map faster, like billy with his saw fr e.g. Or spirit using her phase, but most killers like bubba or clown, doctor, myers and so on don't have that ability. They need a strong power to compensate. Freddy is literally just clown if he had no teleport, demo would just have shred and nurse.. just yeah. You'd need to buff their powers significantly to match their current strength if you were to remove their teleporting ability.

I never said I want the current four's abilities gone.

You seem like a new player. All these killers have big downsides that you actively ignore, and you do not seem as if you wanna have a real discussion. My question is, why even make a thread to begin with?

Okay Imma start off with your question since it's the most simple and rudimentary to answer.

My point is that killers are mostly fun. My problem was with one specific game mechanic that made my experience worse than versing any other killer. I came on the forums, shared my opinion and that is that.

It isn't though. I hate playing nurse, myself, but each way they make the killers is different to each other, and gives a variety of gameplay, which then allows for replayability. One can teleport to gens, which becomes less useful over time. Demogorgon has portals which can be closed (and he must go to one). They are each unique. They are unique, but limited. Killers actually have to get gud. I don't see why survivors shouldn't have to.

You can't equate killers and survivor because each killer has their own power. Survivors have the same core. Killers have similar cores, but must play with their power to win. Limiting the devs creativity just because you don't like teleporting killers is selfish on your part.

The objective is gens, not chases. Chases is a way for killers to slow gens, which is their true goal. This was never supposed to be a chasing simulator, but a survival horror game. Looping was just a bug they ran with. Sorry if you don't like the truth, but that is why we have the game today.

You do not explain why it is a silly argument. You just claim it is without evidence because you cannot debate this. You have no argument for why, and It just makes you look bad.

Nurse and Freddy... Nurse and Freddy both make survivors jobs much, much harder. Nurse ignores looping, while Freddy brute forces looping. Survivor mains don't like actually having to do well, they like coasting on their perks instead.

That unique/stale argument is pretty dull at this point.

If the devs were so keen in uniqueness, they would've made all the survivors unique as well in the game's inception.

Like I said, killers are fun to verse (most of them anyway).

Sure, some get tiring such as the Doctor or even the Spirit, but they at least have to walk like how rest of the cast in the game has to.

Teleporting is pretty difficult to counter and it's nearly dang impossible since all survivors can do is... idk... RUN...

"nooo i shouldnt have to react to the killerrr nooooooooooo!!!"

You know, at least write smth useful or at least be smart with your cynicism.

You need those abilities to be able to properly pressure the map tho, that's why they gave em that in the first place.

Other killers can do the same. Applying pressure.

Teleporting is just a way they move around the map, but it sucks to fight against it.

Hag can put traps, see surv's auras and teleport to that place at the same time.

Freddy has his own little world with floor traps, fake palettes, dumb crowd control and a stupid telephone thing that survivors must go to. + a teleportation.

They have lots of abilities yet they still can teleport. Teleporting is pretty cheap imo and you can agree or disagree all you want.

  • @BubbaMain64 said:

Terrible idea. These abilities exist for map pressure/chase. Removing them only makes the game stale and killers less unique. You can hear demogorgon stomping towards you btw. Get better.

I mean, "get better"... "get gud"...

Are these the only things you killer mains can say?

You can hear this, you can see that...

I mean, you guys cry about gen rushes, Dead Hard, Borrowed Time and all sorta stuff yet I can say the same thing:

You can hear gens, You can predict DH... Get Gud

At least Dead Hard has an actual long cool down, what does teleportation have? It's hard wired into the killer.

  • @Raven014 said:

No. It would make every killer feel stale if they all played the exact same way. That, and only one uses it to actively catch people. Sure, Freddy could, but it has a hefty cooldown, Hag can only teleport if they trigger it, and Demo has to be in a specific spot to be able to use it... and has a loud noise.

All of them need a high amount of skill to use their teleport properly.

If you are caught off guard, then you just need to practice. Get gud.

"It would make every killer feel stale"

    That's a silly argument.

Survivors are technically the same thing altogether (not to mention stale), but they don't fly across maps.

    "End of discussion"

I mean, if you're not going to explain why I guess we should just drop it.

"if you're not going to explain why I guess we should just drop it."

Here's the answer you probably missed: "flying across maps is idea-wise stupid and should be prevented in a chase game."

It's a CHASE game, not a teleporting simulator.

What's the point in running and CHASING when you can hover/fly/teleport anywhere?

I mean, you do realize the four (especially the Nurse and Freddy) are practically frowned upon by the players to verse against right?

Like I said, the current four can keep their abilities, but more would simply make the game too difficult too counter.

  • I was matched with 8~4 ranks when I was only a 20 killer.

The game does that sometimes, maybe not enough available players...

  • Maybe the red makes the thing seem negatively? dunno.

    They should've made each 10 levels a certain color i.e. 0~10 yellow, 10~20 green, 20~30 blue etc.

  • @Deadeye said:

Your logic isn't flawless either. Already stated here but I will repeat, in case you ignored it:

If a killer wants to tunnel, he doesn't need scratch marks, he most likely will have LOS. Your change wouldn't prevent tunneling at all.

Did I ever mention that my suggestion was perfect?

And even if it does not prevent tunneling, are you suggesting that people should just get over it?

I mean, your contribution to the topic is mostly subjective and have no follow ups to a better solution or suggestions.

    However,

If your point IS that people should just "git gud" or "suck it up", then I have no point in responding to such an idea...

  • Wow, all these "want no scratch marks? don't run!" suggestions...

That's so rudimentary and unlettered I can't fathom how to respond to such logic.

The only reason why I bring this up is because killers take the upper hand by (9 times out of 10) chasing the once hooked person again instead of something else, and scratch marks are babying them to get another secured kill.

What's the point in getting rescued if the enemy gets full awareness of your whereabouts within seconds of being rescued?

And to the analogy above, you are basically saying "they'll do it anyway whether you like it or not so don't do something about and just pray for a better game."

Lol. I mean, yes. I could turn the other cheek and spit on the ground to a crappy match.

But that doesn't make the next game have any higher chances of being better than the previous one and in most cases, it's not.

Exploitation in DBD is at all time high and praying for a better game next match is not the most practical solution. I hope you get that.

  • @Martesa55 said:

    1) there are perks that makes you to don't leave scratch marks

    2) if someone is going to get tunneled, then scratch marks are useless since killer will camp the area anyway

    1) Well, like I stated: "...it also shouldn't be a stupid perk to do so anyway."

    2) Tunneling is to solely focus on one specific survivor and scratch marks after hooks condones that very action so what's the point in keeping that stupid mechanic?

  • Anything that turns invisible.

    I hate fighting something I can't see.

  • People exploit the game to a whole another level to the point it's barely fun anymore.

    • Camping puts at least 1 survivor to completely lose the game while giving the killer at least one guaranteed kill.
    • Tunneling is similar so no further explanation necessary.
    • Slugging is also a so-called "strategy" to force the survivors to either save someone or save their own skin. Either way, you'll look like and idiot or an #########.
    • Gen-rushing is a huge middle finger to killers which sadly may include good ones too. Game gets boring, survivors get BP and killers cry in the corner and swears revenge.

It's a cycle and it needs to be broken.

  • Maybe they have different worlds for different timelines.

Who knows? The entity works in mysterious ways...
