I use it on Michael as a means to get people to spread out and I can stalk them without being spotted first.
Not as a means of slowing down gens really.

MoM is garbage. DS is ok in its current state.

I think Haddonfield is too safe though, I do want some safe tiles.
IMO They should make some of those solid walls 'broken' so at least they are partially opened. Make it look as if the entity has taken over the realm and make it have a more spooky look.
-
Parts of this map are gross I agree. Specifically looking at those endless walls.
However. You can't really expect every map to not have some kind of 'safe' areas. I don't want them to make it into Hawkings Lab 2.0 for example.
As a last point, everyone noticed how badly this Freddy played. Yes the map didn't help him but did he ever get off her? Of course he is allowed to make mistakes (as everyone does) but I think people also need to adjust to the map. Not to a point where one party or the other are accepting it, but adjusting to it accordingly.

First of all, It ONLY works if the survivors are brain dead. It's easy to counter, you just do gens, yeah, It sucks for the guy on hook, but some games be that way. This really isn't an issue at all. It only hurts the Killer, unless survivors make the mistake of hovering around the face camp and allowing the Killer to punish them for it.
I'm also in red ranks, both sides, I don't see face camping hardly at all. The only time I do is usually when someone is being toxic and probably deserved it at that point. It is very rare to see a killer that knows what they are doing allow themselves to be tilted by someone because they will abandon chase when they know It isn't to their advantage.
Face camping is very common in lower ranks, that's just a lack of experience though.
Proxy Camping is far more common, I agree. However, this isn't a great strategy either because It's just the lazy way of applying map pressure which is also countered by anyone that has enough experience as survivor to realize the situation. You do see this more, but, It's certainly not a very consistent way to play at higher ranks either from my experience. Also, for me, It's hella boring.
There is certainly situations where It is the smart play for the Killer to Proxy, this, Is very situational though.
So, now that we've come back full circle..
It stands to reason, If gen rushing wasn't so powerful, people wouldn't feel so obligated to face camp.
I mean, have you asked yourself WHY people do face camp, especially at lower ranks? It's because of how fast gen's get done. They feel they don't have a chance because of how fast things are getting done, so they at least one to kill ONE survivor for their troubles.
This is a problem. Now, for Killers that have experience, there are plenty of games that I have played, where I did everything I could, I had good map pressure, I was downing people consistently, hooking people consistently (not slugging or camping) and still lost in 5-8 minutes because of how fast gens got done. Games where there was literally nothing I could do about it, didn't stand a chance.
That is a HUGE problem. Face Camping, survivors have an even greater chance of winning because they can punish the Killer that much easier because of It.
Killer.. yeah, good luck.
So.. It's not even comparable or an issue to me. Gen Speeds are flawed, I don't know the solution but It's a joke at times. Face Camping is just silly, ineffective, and not worth the time for me.
So the only thing I gathered from everything you just said is: Killers facecamp because they have an obligated duty to do so once gens start popping. I mean.. what?
Did you ever ask yourself why gens start getting completed? MANY killers don't even bother to kick a gen when they come into contact with it... let alone check them.
You really think someone who has to feel the need to facecamp because their hooks are getting saboed really has any desire to win the match? No. They just want to "punish" that survivor for messing with their hooks. Same with the people who can't catch other survivors because they keep swinging and missing, or their bloodlust gameplay isn't working for them, so they FINALLY break the pallet Etc. Etc. and survivors should be punished for the killer's inability to perform? Nah fam.
This isn't a full circle we've come to. It isn't even half a circle.
Clearly not every situation is the same, but to flat out say that killers get a free pass on camping simply because they got outperformed, doesn't give anyone license to complain about getting "gen rushed". That's like saying survivors should automatically by default unbreakable even without a perk because you literally cannot do anything when you're on the ground, unless you have a perk or someone who can heal you.
-
I was wondering when the two were going to be compared.
Honestly, I agree. I feel that much of the design of the maps has been with the intention of creating "loops" rather than it being aesthetically different. However, I do think that they could do a better job at creating more unique spaces instead of always feeling like you're in the same scene with just a different set up.
The lighting is very inconsistent and some of the textures that have been used on some of the terrain just to avoid the whole "blending" situation have me wondering if they opted for balance over visual appeal. You have 3D grass that looks darker than the actual terrain grass (Haddonfield) and as someone who aspires to be a 3D designer some day, it hurts my eyes. lol
I feel that they could step up their game when it comes to maps for sure. I don't know how much of the people working on the character models are involved with the map design, but maps could use a little spice.

This entire thread hurts my head.
You have ONE example and try to mold it into the standard. Sigh.
This doesn't happen often in higher ranks, camping is not a good tactic at all as Killer. This literally isn't what most Killers are complaining about or doing.
@Deanlcity
I'm in red ranks and it happens more than you think. So really, it is one example of many.
Also, face-camping isn't optimal, but proxy camping is. Why? Because you are guaranteed that someone won't be on a generator, and also at least one down (providing they have BT) or with the right killer you can get two.
Don't kid yourself by thinking that because it isn't "optimal" it doesn't work. Many killers have already figured out a way to camp without the need for it to be a full face-camp. Quite frankly I don't care if it is either. I just hate the double standard that exists when people who believe using Camping as a tactic is valid aka. "Oh yeah, bring BT next time", but working proficiently on gens isn't..."Well I got gen rushed, devs need to fix the gen problem". tsk tsk.

Right. They can’t add to the survivor objective without also adding to killer to make camping and tunneling non-existent. Humorous the amount of people that scream for another survivor objective (or longer gens), but then go defensive and tell you to use perks against those playstyles... or “just do gens” against camping except if that killer has NOED they will also tell you you were lazy and didn’t do the bones lol. So counter one to eliminate the counter to the other, interesting logic, but I digress. Address both in the base game, or neither. If survivors are forced to use BT and DS, then killers should have to use Ruin, POP, corrupt, etc if needed. Only fair.
I agree. I think gen speeds are fine as they are tbh.
I think the one thing I will say that I personally think some killers should get is a buff to their own ability. Specifically the ones without mobility. That way it is a direct buff to them and not overcompensating other killers who are already strong. Like The Hillbilly or Spirit.
If you target gens alone and basically decrease the baseline speed and/or add a secondary objective, those killers who more or less rely on camping methods would have a field day.
-
The funny thing is when they camp what is the first thing they tell you to do? Just do gens right?
You basically have to “gen rush” as they’d like to call it. Making it a direct counter to camping. Yet they believe Camping is a tactical move but not Gen Rushing. Lol
Secondary objectives would only be adding more time to scummy play styles and give more time for killers to correct their mistakes. Especially secondary objectives directly affecting gens.
-
I'm not even a Feng main, but Feng has the best Xmas Sweater.
-
How was his change any different than how Hillbilly works in loops?
-
Either side can be stressful providing the circumstances.
Also, feeling stressed doesn't mean "I'm not having fun", there are legitimate times when the game puts stress because it is a challenging situation. If you are personally not having fun, then that's on you not the game. The game didn't force you to feel "stressed".

@StrodeWins You realize there is no way to nerf SWF right? They stated this like a million times.
Solo Surviving is awful but not because it is missing comms, it is because teammates aren’t as reliable as in SWF. I often die on first hook because of their hesistation to pull me off the hook.

Watch the last game of that stream. It starts at around 4 hours and 4 minutes in. That is me playing spirit in this manner at rank 1. I was not specifically tunneling though but could have been.
It is super tilting for the survivors. Them remarking with comments like "THIS SHOULD BE BANNABLE"
Yeah, that's why I keep saying DS is not an anti-tunnel perk. As a killer you are also aware of who is injured and would most likely down them first. With perks like MYC, it just further encourages it.
That's why I disagree with many people on here who think there is only one type of tunneling. If you go back to the hook for the "exposed" person but they are good at immersing, and you happen to hear the wounded guy that just got unhooked... are you seriously telling me you're not gonna try to find them and down them again? Lol
Tunneling comes in different forms.
-
@Apple2o said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/918542#Comment_918542
If you can't see the value in MYC for tunneling I don't know what to say. What else is going to get you totally free slugs while you tunnel someone? You must have missed the part where I said this is typically done with movespeed spirit; who returns to the hook from 32m in less than 3 seconds. It's like a hag if someone triggers your traps, you are effectively already back at the hook the second someone is saved.
I don't think its possible to even get out of the basement before a spirit can be at the top of the stairs from 32m away. It is insane for tunneling. If you don't believe me try it yourself.
I understand what you are saying. Not many people take into account the power or camping/tunneling in whatever manner you're using it in. That's why I don't cry about DS if I happen to get greedy and want to go "camp" a hook or unintentionally "tunnel" someone.
It's just common knowledge, but the problem is many people on here seem to want to nit pick only the parts that mostly puts them at a disadvantage.
"Well it was only 50% tunnel but I also saw scratch marks so I went back" Who cares? The perk itself doesn't state "You can only tunnel ___% this much or else the perk won't activate". It is literally taken from Laurie Strode's lore in her stabbing Michael Myers, it is meant to be an offensive/defensive perk. You are literally stabbing the aggressor.
-
I don't mind ebony moris personally.
I think that the match becomes more challenging, but sometimes I've still escaped even with an ebony mori at play.
-
Survivor, simply because you cannot control the actions of your 3 other teammates.
With killer you have more control of the match and you have to blame for if you make any mistakes.

With the factor of many powerful loops, good builds with ds, the other teammates working on gens, and the killer you are playing as, One good DS at red ranks could be the end of you, let alone many of them
Right, and in theory you are absolutely right. However, to simply imply that DS has that much of an impact in matches that because someone has it means you are bound to lose the match is not correct.
Most of the time the people who use it early on wish they had it towards the end of the match, which is why I agree with @survivormain1105 because smart killers will get it out of the way so they don't have to deal with it during the EGC.

Eating 4 Decisives is an easy way to lose at red ranks. That is a total of 240 seconds of at least 1 survivor being immune to everything. A total of 20 second stun time for the killer, or 1/4th of a gen. You have chase them once which will take about 30 seconds, get stunned for 5, and then you have to chase them again and with how most maps are layed out that will cost another 30 seconds at least with the amount of pallets available. You can extend the game so much with one DS. It's far easier to slug and have 1 survivor out of the game for 60 seconds than eat all 4 Decisives.
And there are many variables in between all those numbers. Just because there are 4 DS's doesn't mean all of them get used. Also the chase is extended provided you are in a great spot... it's not always guaranteed you will extend the chase.

Not true, I played a game against a red rank trapper, he eat two DSs so they def do. The only time I will say that DS is really "OP" is EGC when the gates our open and they use to get away. Other than that DS is just a minor annoyance that delays the inevitable
Let them live in their own reality of "Every killer thinks this way" even tho you and I, and many others know that it is simply not true. Many killers eat the DS early because as you said... EGC is really where it shines.

You definitely do not play killer at red ranks with your recommendation to eat the DS's. If you played killer at red ranks you would know how not accurate that statement is.

@Xerge
I don't know but I can tell you I don't see them posting on these forums.
Moris as much as they can cut the game in half, they don't bother me. It makes the match more challenging because you basically have 1 hook per survivor.

Imagine thinking the opposite party is a bully for simply using tools the game explicitly allows you to use.

Or you know... DO tunnel and get the effect of what the perk does. Your choice.

Correction - there is not always a way. You can only chase one person at a time, survivors spawn next to ruin, and slow down addons etc. are getting nerfed every other patch. Gen speed has been a problem for a while. Even the devs have touched on it in their streams. Why do you think BNP's were nerfed?
As for camping - it's not hypocrisy. The original DBD "How to play killer" videos literally show the survivor being camped as the optimal way to play. Clearly you've never been to red rank in killer. Do that (and don't just say you have, actually do it or prove it), and get back to me with a valid opinion.
So the same could be said for the survivor side... spawning on a map you can’t use Balanced, exhaustion add ons that completely take away a whole perk.. etc.
Regardless of the variables that exist that benefit one side or the other, The fact is that there are ways to play around it.
I don’t need to validate my opinion simply because it’s different than yours. I find it very funny though, that you say camping is a tactic and yet camping is only countered by the very thing you find an issue with... gen rushing.
Go ahead and continue to spread your biased opinion.
-
@The_Second_Coming said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/916184#Comment_916184
So, there's a difference in mindset between those two claims, even when made by the same person.
Gen rushing is an issue because of the asymmetrical nature of the game. It's not even the survivors fault. It's an issue at a game level. Gens take too long, it's the only objective, and you can only chase one person at a time. The issue gets worse with the speed buffs of toolboxes with and without addons. Most killers recognize that it's a game issue and not really the survivors at fault. When they complain about it, it's not in vain of the survivors. It's in vain of the game's balance flaw.
Camping is different in that it IS a viable tactic; except, it's only a viable tactic if the survivors allow it to be one.
Except that gen rushing isn’t an issue at all as there are ways to slow them down, wether it be via pure gen pressure or perks and add ons. At which point survivors have to get smart because their main objective can be stalled until they are dead.
If you find gen rushing flawed but still think face camping was just “part of the game as it is a tactic” then I find hypocrisy in that.
Because what you are telling me is that you want the game slowed down for your convenience to kill faster... but still be able to face camp (again ) for your convenience to kill faster.
-
"Face camping is a tactic"
Also these type of players
"Gen rush is a problem"
smdh

Both sides complain.

There was nothing wrong with Freddy’s base power, that’s why they didn’t touch anything else.
-
What’s wrong with the way it is now?
I use BW sometimes and I have no issues opening the gate myself. You just gotta position yourself properly.
If anything maybe the last gen about to pop can light up red, kind of like a Tinkerer effect so you know which gate would be best to open.

NOED can be countered by doing totems. I play rank 1 killer and survivor. I never use NOED as killer, and as survivor it's a minor inconvenience. The killer usually get one hook from it, at most.
@Jholla31 I understand that No Ed can be countered, what I am saying is this would give killers to use it more not as you mentioned “rely” on No Ed.
-
You’re practically in the dream world as soon as you get hit, it’s not like you’re more than 90% of the time not going to be affected by his powers. He is still strong even without this obnoxious build.

Killers would still bring No Ed.
This suggestion would just make it that much more powerful, because you’d know exactly who to down. Whereas now you actually have to them.

It’s better to not try to understand it because there are many reasons why things happen during a match. Specifically the unhooking right away.
Yesterday for example, I played 4 matches in a row where at least two teammates Just crouched in hesitation trying to unhook me. So I go to phase two, only to someone finally getting me and me getting tunneled by the killer. So you see, in that scenario I would have rather just been unsafely unhooked to at least have one more chance.
Of course this doesn’t mean do it all the time but if you see no other way, at least you can give your teammate another chance.

ive seen that argument pop up quite a lot recently, though i never really understood it.
would you mind telling me why you think like this?
cause all this would do, imo, is to allow him to create a quick setup and then start playing normally, just like all the other trap based killers.
he would also not be significantly stronger with this, as, besides of the quicker start, this would have rather little effect on his overal gameplay. it would just make his power play out more smoothly at the beginning and make it more bearable to move the setup around.
For me personally, I feel that it would be too much. His traps being tangible makes them more powerful than any other trap. Since you can Immobilize a survivor while injuring them in the process, I think it would be too much in the sense that they would feel too broken.
I think he should be able to carry at least 2 at base, but not all of them. Not if they also tweak his add-ons and speed up the animation for setting traps. That's just my opinion from playing him.
I think many people underestimate how powerful his traps are.
-
I think the keys are fine as they are in terms of opening the hatch.
I think the Hatch spawn requirements need to change. Maybe they could tie in a secondary objective to this as an alternate way of escaping, but only when someone has been sacrificed to the entity.
Right now, there is some skill involved with using keys. First you have to make sure you do +1 gen than the number of survivors alive, and also you have to find it. So I think what they should do is make it so the actual process of finding the hatch is more interactive while also having to complete objectives to open it.
This would not only (in general) make the games a bit longer, but also spread out objectives amongst survivors. You still need to complete the main objective requirements to unlock this alternate way of escaping.
