  • Because just like it isn't fun to have all your work thrown out the window by current DS after your first chase, it isn't fun to be tunneled to death just because the killer happened to see/hook you first.

There is a very simple solution to hatch stand offs. It's an option that has been available to killers all along. When you get to 2 survivors slug one instead of putting one a hook. That gives you 4 minutes until the slugged survivor bleeds out to find the other survivor. If you can't find the survivor within 4 minutes then they earned the escape. If the other survivor rescues the slugged survivor and they finish the gens then they earned the escape. Either way, the hatch will not be an issue.

    This.

I wish more people had your attitude towards survivors actually waiting out the bleedout though. Most of the time (in my experience) the player that does it gets trashtalked by both the survivor being "abandoned" and the killer obviously circling them for the entirety of the 4 minutes.

  • Trying to avoid "outcry" is a complete waste of time.

There's people that cry "p2w overpowered killer" at any killer that isn't just a basic M1 killer with no ability, just like there's people that think every killer that isn't nurse is a waste of time because nurse is better.

Let people complain and focus on making content that's fun and interesting to play with for the majority of players.

  • It's your match as killer, you can play however you want.
Want to play as if you'll get banned if you don't 4K? Go for it.
Want to just farm from the start? That's cool.
Want to be a living meme and do basement protector Bubba or cloaked totem guardian Wraith? Whatever floats your boat.
Want to "throw" the entire game just to potentially spook the hell out of one survivor with the good old NOED nurse behind the gate trick? Good luck, hope they all come to "your" gate.

Personally I really don't care about trying to prevent a hatch escape, which I guess is at least a little bit nice. At that point there's not much more bloodpoints to get, and I'm not gonna stand on the hatch for an eternity for the 2.5k no one escaped bonus when I can get to another match instead.

    • Wiggling on the hook = leave me on the hook
    • A killer smacking a generator on purpose = they want to farm
    • A little quick tbag after getting healed = thank you!

That's pretty much it unless we want to get into "controversial" ones that basically boil down to people wanting an easier time (4%, tunneling/camping, trying to restrict what perks/items/addons/killers people can use and so on)

Because you can break the pallet, something you can't do with windows so there's no reason to have them get blocked.
If you block them to prevent noise spam they'll just use lockers for the same purpose. Just ignore the sounds and be happy they're not doing anything useful I guess.

Lockers could have the same thing tho, just dont go in and out 3 times in a row and you will be blocked to enter again.

That would be a good perk tho, preventing survivors to go in lockers inside a terror raidius.

There's really no gameplay benefit. If someone wants to attract your attention/be annoying and they can't use pallets or lockers they'll find another way, like running to you and clicking a flashlight or something.
If anything adding blockers to pallets would encourage truly BRAINDEAD levels of "Bloodlust gamer" gameplay, killers getting so blinded by rage they waste time by forcing blockers on the shack pallet instead of just kicking the damn thing so they don't get flashlighted or something equally idiotic.

I think that once you hit R1 at any role, you shouldn't be allowed to derank past R5, not even at reset, save for maybe not logging in months. You hit R6, you won't derank past R10, and so on. After that, I would suggest to open the matchmaking gates to include said five - by - five ranking brackets, so longer queues wouldn't be a thing to worry about.

I like this idea. I feel it'd directly take care of the queue time issues people have, and indirectly give people more variety as well as while the people that only play omegablink noed/ruin nurse with an ebony or depip squad SWF would still be there, but there'd simply be more lobbies going on that people in red ranks could be sent into.

Personally I've always hated deranking/smurfing. Doing it to actually be able to play the game if playing at weird times or in "dead" regions of the world I can at least kind of understand, but doing it to get easier games or even content creators doing it for "better content" is just scummy no matter how you look at it if you ask me. Perhaps the devs could just widen matchmaking range in certain times and regions or something? Obviously there won't be as many people playing at 2am on a weekday as 7pm on a weekend.

What's so special about lagswitching on console?

This right here. Nothing's special about it.
Just because the game is on a console doesn't change the fact that it's a P2P game where the host's word is law to ensure stuff like hit detection doesn't get all messed up.
Doesn't matter to the game if connection is interrupted and the first update recieved once it's restored is "oh by the way the killer hit you twice and you're on his shoulder now", it'll simply roll with it.
And I'm sure most lagswitching is done by physically pulling the plug temporarily, which has absolutely nothing to do with third-party software at all.

If consoles are more ban-happy when it comes to suspected lagswitchers that's good. Lagswitching has been a more common cheating method on consoles anyway, thanks to the widespread use of P2P there and the relative "lack" of more software-based cheating methods there.

  • Killers:
    1. Huntress
    2. Trapper
    3. Nurse

    Survivors:
    1. Claudette/Dwight
    2. Ace/Meg
    3. Adam/Jeff

Can't just pick 3 for survivors. I like Claudette and Dwight equally, and the same for the other tiers.

  • The only "rules" I go by based on which survivor someone's playing is this

    • If I can make an Adam my first hook, I won't hesitate. They really do tend to run Deliverance.
    • Don't slug Bill for too long, because Unbreakable
    • Assume a non-obsession Laurie still has DS if there's another obsession

When it comes to behavior I tend to leave any dedicated flashlight clickers alone, if I'm lucky they're an empathy + flashlight user that won't work on gens anyway. And that's pretty much it.
Besides the fact I tend to punish people that intentionally sandbag. Think pointing at lockers or bodyblocking other survivors. I'll admit I tend to slug the unhooked person and chase the unhooker even if it's a completely heartless farming unhook though.

  • @Cetren said:
Better than when you get blinded during the drop animation, so the survivor teleports back up your shoulder only to fall off on their own and escape.

Makes me wonder, could the survivor just "chain blind" the killer during the drop animation if they do this to make exactly that happen?

  • I don't really have any objective measurements, I'm just happy with match if I feel like I did well. Guess it often indirectly ties into pipping as if I feel like I did well I probably pipped (unless I did well by running the killer for long enough before dying and not getting to do anything else)

Personally I feel the "4K / 4Escape or it's a loss" mindset leads to more frustration than it's worth. Like getting irrationally upset at a killer with 0 kills camping someone after the gates are open or a killer getting mad at a survivor for not falling for the obvious slug bait and just waiting for the hatch or something.

  • Would make MORE sense if it drained Chaser points for staying near the hook while not in a chase.
Doesn't punish defending the hook against the swarm, but punishes legitimately mindless camping of the sort that gives survivors 3-4 free gens if they react quick enough.

  • I'm sure they do, I assume that's what people mean when they say "blocked killer" after a match.
I don't really care as long as there's no "community" blacklists people share around (I don't know if there is). If it was effectively blocked people could just use regular network monitoring software and a .txt file full of IPs to do the same thing if they really wanted to. And considering people sat there and repeatedly rejoined lobbies to get with their friends prior to the introduction of SWF I'm sure people would be willing to do it.

According to the new bann rules, usage of discord/ts is actually bannable even though if the devs have no tools to detect it.

Wait, what? Where can I see the source? I have fun SWF using discord. Yet I don't understand why that is considered cheating uh

I mean, the whole game changes completely if they implement a voice chat in game and I wouldn't enjoy listening babies raging or trolling. I had enough after 2 years in Overwatch,  thanks. But it's true I like to have fun in a calling with my friends while playing the game. Callouts are important but we are most of the time joking and laughing or just swearing while the killer is chasing us because we are new and bad lol

In the new report system we dont have a BHVR-whitelist anymore, the only whitelist we have now is the EAC one and it doesnt list discord/ts and that stuff.

I asked the support and they confirmed:

I specifically asked again regarding voice comms mlga etc and got this answer:

Not being on the whitelist is not the same as being on a blacklist. Claiming otherwise is misinformation at best and fear-mongering disinformation otherwise.

The whitelist is just an exception list, if the programs on there do something that might seem like a cheat then EAC won't just pounce on them and ban for it, as it's how they work and EAC decided it's not cheating. All it means that something isn't on the whitelist is that if the program in question does something EAC reacts to, it will actually act on it.

What's on the list? Mostly streaming/recording software, some manufacturer software, a single entry for post-processing software as far as I know (reshade / sweetFX) as well as Curse Voice.
Everything up to Curse Voice makes sense, as it's not unheard of to see stuff like that cause false positives with anti-cheats. Streaming and recording depends on method but it can seem like a cheat with the way they might "hook" onto a running process, and manufacturer software lets users change how the game looks or set up keyboard and mouse macros.

Curse Voice? It's not your average voice chat program, it has a function where within supported games it can automate the creation of temporary voice chat rooms. Get in a lobby in League of Legends and all your teammates have the program? Bam, the program automatically puts you all into a voice chat with no input from the users.
If a program that could turn every single game of DBD into a 4man SWF on comms if everyone downloaded it today is explicitly whitelisted (I have no idea if the automation function even works for DBD to be fair), that pretty much confirms that using third party programs to communicate is not cheating in the eyes of EAC.

You might ask why stuff like Discord, Skype, Teamspeak or anything else isn't on there? Because there's NO REASON for them to be there. They do not interact with the game in a way that could cause false positives, not to mention that using voice chat in multiplayer games is so accepted and expected nowadays that it'd just be redundant.

EDIT: Manufacturer software doesn't even inherently let people change how the game looks, but it can let them do stuff like monitor performance or force graphical settings that the options menu might not offer like alternative antialiasing methods and the like. SweetFX / reshade does let you change how it looks though.

There has never been a blacklist, even in the old system.

I challenge you to provide this actual "blacklist" you are talking about instead of spreading misinfformation

Theoretically you can get banned for usage of a non-allowed program even if EAC cant detect it. For example, if a streamer admits that he uses MLGA which cant be detected by EAC, thenm the devs can bann this guy.

Funny fact, but in the old system, voicecomms were actually included in the whitelist.

I bet you love making things up "voice comms were actually included in the whitelist". The whitelist has only every been changed when they removed MLGA, stop talking so much tosh.

So you cant provide this blacklist you are talking about.

    Why am I not surpised

Nowhere in this entire quote chain did anyone actually imply there is an actual blacklist.

Not being on the whitelist is not the same as being on a blacklist

Is this the line that you view as me saying there is a blacklist? Because it doesn't imply that at all. It's just saying that something being absent from the WHITELIST is not the same as there BEING a blacklist and the program in question being on it.

Of course there isn't actually a blacklist anyone can provide or reference, that would defeat the entire point of using a whitelist system in the first place.

  • I've always wanted a perk that just allows you to manually stop leaving scratchmarks for X seconds. Dance with me is one thing but having it activatable would be cool.

Same for Beast of Prey working the same way. After trying the new wraith addon that hides TR and stain after uncloaking I only want it more.

I never claimed there has been an actual blacklist. I'm only saying that not being on the whitelist is not the same as being on a blacklist if one did exist. Not being on the whitelist does not inherently made a program bannable, it just means it hasn't been given any explicit exceptions after being reviewed by EAC. I apologize if I made it seem like I was talking about there being an actual blacklist as that was not my intention at all!

I don't think they would ban someone for simply admitting to use MLGA, I've seen streamers/youtubers openly talk about using it without issue. ScottJund referenced it in one of his recent "First of the Daylight" videos for example, before realizing the viewers can't see the ping overlay. So I'd say using the program itself and admitting to it isn't something that leads to a ban. Same for any form of voice chat, even legitimately unfair stuff like calling out a killer's endgame build after dying early. People do that on streams without getting banned.
Of course, if a streamer openly used the blocking function and encouraged their viewers to block the same people through a community blocklist... yeah that'd be a different story entirely and it's more of a community violation than the program itself.

And well, they should have kept them on the whitelist even though what they had there in the old system doesn't really matter now, at least then it would put an end to any confusion. As long as Curse Voice remains on the whitelist I find it very hard to believe they'd ever view "less offensive" voice chat programs as anything bad whatsoever, and I fail to even imagine a situation where a voice chat program would trigger EAC.

  • That's a lagswitch, so yeah.
It can't actually be 100% proven though unless he admits to it, as there's a miniscule chance that it was just very convenient lag for him and he could defend himself that way :(

  • EDIT: This post originally got eaten while trying to edit it and didn't re-appear. I didn't mean to double post basically the same post.

  • It's a multiplayer game with a party queue option, it's expected that voice chat will be used. How would they even "ban" voice comms? Detect if you're running programs that enable it and tell you to close them before it lets you play? Ban people for doing plays that made it seem like they were enabled by comms even if it's inherently impossible to prove 100% unless they streamed it for proof?

The ways to stop it range from what is basically unforgivably invasive to a modern audience to a hellscape of undeserved bans. Breaking up queues into solo queue/mixed queue or whatever is something I'm honestly not sure if the game's playercount could support either, especially in less populated regions.

Honestly if you're that bothered by SWF just dodge, as that's something that actually has even the slighest chance of doing something unlike telling the developers of a multiplayer game with a party queue option to prevent people from talking to the people they play with.

  • Unless they add other ways for survivors to gain distance (that isn't exhaustion perks) or try to escape a chase it sort of has to be that way. Yeah, you can pull off a play in many ways. You can lithe + dance with me, you can iron will urban evasion out of a nurse chase while she's fatigued if you're lucky and more. But when actually breaking chase is a risky and inconsistent play, wasting time is the safer option. If you sneak away and avoid running to not make scratchmarks, you're basically a free hit if it doesn't work.

Eat the pallets, enduring is your friend. Go all out with BS + spirit's fury if you really want to eat them up, maybe even bamboozle for the true JUGGERNAUT build now. And if you're chasing some crazy optimal survivor there's no shame in just making them drop a pallet and looking for a new chase. Sorry, but no matter how badly some people want it to be true to feed their straight up persecution complex even rank 1 isn't exclusively 4man swfs with 10k hours combined doing their best Depip Squad cosplay while communicating like a SWAT team.

Do I want them to add other things for survivors to use? Yeah! I'd love stuff like crawlspaces, bushes that legitimately make a survivor invisible (not many of them of course) and a perk that lets you press E to hide scratchmarks for X seconds for more consistent chase breaking. But until there's other tools available the pallet dance is the Most Effective Tactic Available, and whining about survivors using it to survive (their objective) is just as asinine as survivors complaining about killers running strong perks or camping when there's an open gate 10 meters away.

  • The killer is the host, so they're in charge.
I don't even dodge a lot myself. I'm just sorta tired of getting 4 people an entire continent away accusing me of lagswitching because they have 400ms ping in game. Honestly I'm doing them a favor if you ask me.

I've seen some "i dodge if..." lists on killer profiles that I really hope are ironic though. Like people that dodge even 2 medkits because they just assume they're syringes or whatever.

Going into the game with your primary objective being preventing event gens from being done as opposed to actually kill anyone is a dick move, sure. But if the survivors make it obvious they'd rather die than do one of the two normal gens that are left when they need one more gen to power the gates? Why on earth would the killer not guard it?

Believe me, I was one of those survivors that didn't care in the slightest about actually escaping. If I could finish an event gen in the killer's face I'd do it even if I died on the next hook. But even I realize I'm not entitled to freely do my gens, just like the killer isn't entitled to the survivors not struggling so he can reach the event hook on the other side of the map.

Im not saying they should be given freely. I am all for working for the reward, but a lot of killers make it literally impossible to get the gens done. I right there with you on popping the event gen in thier face though

Wasn't accusing you specifically of holding that opinion, no worries.
I completely agree that going in with the primary objective of just guarding event gens is the same as being useless and only sabotaging event hooks all game. Basically throwing the game just for a chance of annoying someone, more or less the same as completely facecamping the first hook and continuing to do so even when no one comes for the save.

  • If the killer is camping someone, just go do gens. There's usually at least one guy in the game that will refuse to not go for a save no matter how unlikely anyway, so you might as well be the guy that actually tries to make it so the rest can get out.

If you're getting camped, just hang there for the whole duration and hope the other survivors do gens. If all three are crouching near the hook or tbagging/waving at the killer trying to """bait""" him away feel free to just let go, they don't deserve your help anyway.

  • If they use for anything else than simply preventing themselves from struggling at the last second they're crazy anyway, considering the broken effect.
If someone actually gets to that 2v1 endgame scenario without getting hooked once then hey, they must've done something right by either avoiding the killer or actually breaking chase. If they jump off and hatch out they actually "worked" for the chance of doing so by not getting slapped on the hook earlier.

  • Going into the game with your primary objective being preventing event gens from being done as opposed to actually kill anyone is a dick move, sure. • BBQ&Chili has too much going for it and should see a change.

    • Bloodpoints, duh. No problem here.
    • Strong map awareness through its aura reading for all killers, basically a free chase for mobile killers unless the survivors are really far away or pull a good disappearing act.
    • Basically a superior whispers 2 every time you hook someone. Missing aura? You can't see them, but you know they're nearby. The guy on the hook doesn't even interfere with it (unlike with whispers), as this is a form of indirect tracking offered by BBQ&Chili being actively "countered" by survivors.

I'm not even asking for the aura reading to be removed, or some weird solution where it's removed for Billy and Nurse. Something as simple as making the auras a frozen "snapshot" instead of 4 seconds of live aura reading would make counterplay way more interesting. You know which area the survivor is in, but they can immediately start relocating/hiding instead of having to mislead/juke for 4 seconds as you're already chainsawing towards their still visible, moving aura. Would still provide very powerful knowledge of where people are.

  • The ones that sprint burst to the other side of the map when you safely unhook them and you have We'll Make It.
I swear, even if they made big red letters say WE'LL MAKE IT DETECTED - STAND STILL FOR QUICK HEALS they'd still do it.
