I've been playing 4 years and when I did SWF I played with people who had the roughly the same amount of time in the game. We knew where the imbalances in this game are and it's with gen speeds. 4 survivors who are efficient on gens can beat even the best killers in the game because they can't be in 4 separate places at once. People like Tru3talent and Otzdarva struggle against teams like that because no matter how well they play the gens just keeping popping.

That's great for you, but most players have played less than 2 years. Most players have less than 1000 hours in game.

I rarely SWF as survivor (Out of almost 3200 games as survivor - I have just over 350 in a SWF and only 91 of those were in a 4 man SWF). Why do I play in SWF - because I have friends. We play for fun - win or lose and frankly our win percentage is not dramatically higher whether it is a 2-3-4 man SWF. This presupposition that SWFs are so powerful is hyperbolic to say the least because its based on the fallacious thought that everyone in the SWF is A+ rated already. I have played since the beginning of 2017 (February 12, 2017 to be exact). I am a 50/50 player and tend to believe the data I track (every single game) over hyperbolic claims that are totally incongruent with such data.

Do SWFs have an advantage - generally speaking yes. (I have played with newer (less than 50 hours) players - and no SWF with them is not an advantage, but it can be a lot of fun).

Are there elite SWF squads - absolutely - I have faced a few in my time as killer.

Are MOST SWFs beatable - Absolutely!

SWFs are the easily blamed entity to excuse mistakes killers make in their gameplay. I just don't view them as the Big Bad Bully groups that some killer mains like to paint them as on these forums. Most SWFs I come across are generally very nice - and just friends trying to have some fun together. I am not saying there aren't sweaty SWFs or toxic SWFs... I am just saying they are not nearly as prevalent as some killer mains on these forums would like you to think they are....

You don't have to be that good in a SWF you just split up on gens. Anyone who struggles in a 4 man is just THAT bad.

Well I have played just over 3600 games as a killer and I can tell you from my experience that SWFs are SLIGHTLY more difficult to beat, but I still have no problems getting 2-4ks. I am by no means a Pro killer (my average kill rate is 61.92%) so either your SWF is OP AF or you are facing mediocre killers if you are all getting out most matches.

If the game was designed to have comms it would have it in game from day one. The fact you have to rely on a third party app to use comms says it all. You do realise that Nintendo switch for example has no party chat features or has in game comms?

It's a little naive to expect everyone to have/use discord for a team based game.

And yet the Devs have stated NUMEROUS times that comms (of any kind) are not cheating - just like tunneling or camping. Games adapt from their day one release - it's called progress. Developers make changes to games daily to give more options to their users. By your account anything added to the game after day one is cheating - which is nonsensical to say the least. The "defense" of it not being there at launch is fallacious as most games expand/change from their initial launch with new features.

No every game I've played SWF has been very fast regardless of how good the killer is. The only time we came close to losing was when we messed up, but even then me we got 2 out. SWF isn't exciting because it's to easy. That's why I stick to solo now because at least it's fun not knowing the outcome of the match before it starts.

Many SWFs would disagree with you - guess you are just THAT good.

swf introduces a crucial vocal communications element that was not meant for or balanced into the game.

It's like playing a game of poker and saying its ok for your friend to go stand behind your opponents hand and tell you everything they pick up.

The only difference between what's happening in dbd and the poker scenario I've just compared it with is that sort of thing is called 'cheating' and can easily be policed in poker. It cant be policed in dbd so nobody does anything about it and a culture of "it's ok to cheat if it cant be policed" develops.

I don't know how I can explain it any more simple than that.

    Here let me try:

its cheating to break the rules of the game which is what audio coms through swf does.

Just because nobody can do anything about said cheating doesn't make it ok. It makes you a cheater.

Well since the Devs do not consider it cheating I will go by what they say. You do know they have an official Discord that promotes SWFs right? Or are you saying that the Devs statements regarding cheating are not true?? I mean after all they say tunneling and camping aren't cheating when a large percentage of the community thinks it is - so which do we go by? The Devs or popular opinion???

    Waits.....

  • Today I played 11 games as killer - I had one key escape (was two people during the end game collapse). I am not sure if they found it or kept picking it up after I Franklin'ed them.

I had 3 matches where keys were brought in so I switched to Franklins for those matches.

  • @RagingFury73 said:

I don't know why but it seems like the killers are faster now. Seriously, the time to wiggle before you get hooked seems less. I don't even bother anymore. Think pc players cheat. Then on some of the perks, if you changed anything on them. Please change them back to how they were. It just seems different.

The new killer, I haven't even used him yet. He doesn't look scary at all.

I don't know, maybe I'm just tired of the adjustments.

    Killers are the same speed.

Psst console players also hack. If you do not want to play with PC players - that is your option as a console player and vice versa.

    Wiggle time has not changed.

Perks: Killer and Survivor side receive buffs/nerfs to balance mechanics out.

Killers don't have to look scary. Legion has a bunny costume for pete's sake.

  • Same. I can't speak for others and very rarely watch other streamers (Just don't have a lot of time for that). 99.9% of my posts are from my experience/data that I have collected. I have tracked 6,724 of my matches in DBD and use that information as the basis of most of my statements/conclusions. I am more of a factual than emotional poster as I find those types of posts full of hyperbole and vitriol to be not conducive to conversations.

  • Depends on my mood. I am a 50/50 player so it really depends on what kind of challenge I want that day/time.

If I HAD to pick one that I could only play from now on - probably killer, but I would also prolly play less LOL.

Stalky Boi just released a video where someone did this to him, with a Myers. So he was self-caring in front of a Myers lol

Again... cool. I stated my experience - doesn't mean there isn't someone who has seen it 100 times. I can't speak to others experiences I can only speak to my own.

Good for you? I still don't follow why are you telling me your life story and replied to my comment with a "get better" if you're just gonna admit map bias is a thing.

My life story? Hyperbolic much? I simply stated: I don't care what map or perks are used - I will do as best I can and learn from any mistakes I make. If I really want to play a map - I have hundreds of map offerings at my disposal. This proposed idea will not doing anything for "map bias." I prefer RNG makes things more exciting/challenging.

I’ve seen it a lot myself and on Twitch streamers Vids on YouTube.

Awesome - I have streamed DBD for over 3,000 hours but honestly don't think I have seen this. I guess if I did it didn't affect me enough to notice. Then again - red ranks running self care - it's a choice; not a good one imo. (Imagining Tatiana saying "Choices" now)

The fact she stood there and just watched on the other side of the pallet, while Myers was still in Tier 3, made it seem like she purposefully sacrificed me. I have no reason to help someone after that and will gladly sacrifice points if it makes their match harder.

Cool, but like I said - you didn't stick around to see what happened - so you have no idea if you screwed her over or actually helped her. But hey if that's what makes you feel better - more power to ya.

  • I love self care on survivors - when I am the killer.

No clue why they would drop a pallet and do that - don't think I have ever seen anyone do it; or if I did it was a rarity.

  • Never done that - purposefully kill myself on first hook no matter the reason. Only time I have done it is if it's me and one other person left and I can tell they found hatch - and if I am already struggling.

In your scenario you don't know if you screwed anyone over, but you did screw yourself out of possible points. I had two matches Tuesday where someone did what you did - the killer then took it easy on the rest of us and we got out with like 27-29k BP each.

As for your question: I'm not really that petty - it's a game. One time I did try to enter a locker to HEAD ON the killer and someone was hiding in there - I ran off and the killer got them instead. So while not purposefully - it did screw them over.

  • @RenTheCat said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2134678#Comment_2134678

Good coping then but there are maps that are objectively better for certain perks and either for killer or survivor. Like, blame yourself all you want if you have low self esteem or whatever but you can't say maps like The Game are not survivor bias when every single pallet blocks the entire way and you can't mind game them.

I wanna see you get out of Tier 1 early as Michael in Haddonfield when every survivor has spine chill and balanced landing.

And? There are maps which are killer sided. I'm completely fine being sent to either - I will do my best no matter which map/perk is brought.

I just don't blame others for what I do. I don't have to win to enjoy the game - and I don't have to get a 4k to win.

  • @RenTheCat said:

Yes I love it when SWF send me to Haddonfield and they all have Spine chill and balanced landing.

Sorry I don't agree with you, but when I am a killer - map doesn't mean all that much to me; nor does them being a SWF. If I lose it's because I didn't play well enough - blaming a map or SWF isn't my thing. Back when I used to actually use end game chat - whenever I faced salty survivors or killers in chat I would tell them the same thing: Don't get bitter - get better.

  • Except its not pay to win. Pay to win implies there is no way to get those characters/perks aside from money - which there is. Pay to win also implies you NEED those characters/perks to win - which you don't.

FYI game purchases alone are not enough to sustain a studio; especially when said game is often on sale and already has a low price point. How would you like DBD to make money to create content (free or otherwise)? BHVR is a business - no profit - no content. I always find it interesting (funny really) when people try to shame a business for trying to make money. I have almost 3,000 hours in DBD so by your math that means I spend 5 cents for every hour I have played...pretty cheap entertainment if you ask me.

  • @Kirkylad said:

I only play solo and it can be a pain sometimes, however I prefer over SWF because I find it boring when matches are over in minutes and you hardly get any interaction with the killer.

Sounds more like a bad killer focusing on 1/2 survivor.

  • I think you will find the majority of posters here have hundreds if not thousands of hours in game.

People who DC when they are being camped deserve their temp bans - because you are denying the other survivors a chance to escape. I have never purposefully DC'd because frankly it is the most selfish thing you can do. I would rather stay on hook - let my team try to gen rush and let the killer end up depipping and getting a horrible score. Your scenario is all fine and dandy except - if one gen was completed before the first hook - or two - which has almost always been the case when I run into a camper - then your "math" doesn't work in the killer's favor at all.

But please purposefully DC when it happens to you because then I have less of a chance of having to team with you while you wait in the ban timeout.

    in Camping Comment by Jasix
  • Or instead of introducing an overly complicated system; just use map offerings.

As a killer if I think the group of survivors is going to be tough - I may use a map offering, but honestly I generally just go with RNG. Avoiding maps as a killer or survivor will not help you learn and adapt - you will just remain inadequate on those maps.

  • While SOME very elite SWFs are very difficult to beat - the vitriol and hyperbole on the forums mischaracterizes almost all of them as these unbeatable sweat squads. You have to remember that forum posters represent a very TINY percentage of actual players. There are innate biases that a lot of "killer mains" have and they constantly talk down about survivors (The same is done in reverse by "survivor mains" as well).

I have played/recorded/tracked nearly 3200 matches as survivor with just over 350 of those in either a 2-3-4 man SWF - my escape rate while SWFing is...wait for it... 2.8% higher than when I play solo. For context I have also played approx 3600 games as killer. Unlike "mains" who post from a place of bias - I prefer using actual statistics and presenting information from an unbiased perspective as much as possible from experience.

I actually like going against SWFs as a killer - once you learn to adapt (imagine that - adapting to your opponents) you will find alternatives to exploiting their comms and altruism. I prefer a challenge - even if that means only getting a 2k. I don't need a 4k to win - I judge my winning on bloodpoints and pips/safety pips.

You will learn to ignore the overt "mains" on these forums who use hyperbole and isolated instances as their "argument". I just wish there was an actual ignore feature on the forums so I didn't have to skip over so many tilted and biased posts in search of level headed mature posts.

I'm thinking about playing swf with my friends without voice comms. How is it? Is it fun? And do you just plan out before hand what your perks are or do you go in completely blind?

We play it like a regular game... using pre game chat to discuss perks/offerings...and then just play the game out like you are with 3 randoms. We just use the point/come emotes a lot with eachother like we do with everyone. Whether we use comms or not our escape rates are basically the same - all depends on killer, map, overall perks etc... some people on here like to make it sound like SWFs are unbeatable with comms, but I prefer to go on personal statistics and facts and not hyperbole.

  • @Mineguy said:

I don't want to play against swf. They have unfair advantages that are not in the normal game. I'm not the best killer and just want to have fun and not get bullied.

Give killers a option to disable swf like crossplay or make the name color change when they are playing together.

    1. Not all SWFs bully - I have never been in a SWF where anyone bullied the killer - believe it or not a lot of people just want to have fun and aren't toxic or bullies. Unlike a lot of the hyperbole and vitriol spread on these forums - most of us streamers are just regular people playing games and having fun - I could care less whether I win a match or not - I'm in it for the fun.
    2. Not all SWFs use voice comms - Because I stream - if I SWF with a friend not on PC we don't use comms and even with some PC friends we don't use comms because we are streaming. It's a pain to use push to talk/push to mute and we like to be able to talk to our streams without having other streams to hear our conversations.
    3. Not all SWFs are 4 people together - I only SWF about 10% of my survivor games and the majority of those SWFs are me and one other person - rarely do I do 3 man SWFs and VERY rarely 4 man.
    4. As a killer going against a SWF is fun to me - Most of them I exploit their altruism...which results in more 3/4ks.

Because the moral of the story still stands: being toxic towards people because you lost in a video game is really childish and a lot of people on DBD are like that.

Meh - which is why I don't bother with chat. I don't need the validation of strangers nor do I have time for the childish comments of strangers. If you have a way to ignore the morons - why not just use that and save yourself the drama? I refuse to let stupid people live rent-free in my head - which is what you are doing by even acknowledging their idiotic behavior. Ignoring the stupidity makes games way more enjoyable imo.

Very rarely do I get morons from matches who come into my streams - I usually don't even see their comments because a mod will delete it before I get a chance to read it. The only time I go into another streamers stream is to tell them "GG" if they played well as a fellow survivor or as a killer.

  • Sigh. Why do people read end game chat and why do you care what complete strangers on the internet think of you? Play the game how you want to play and just hide end game chat - your enjoyment of the game will improve.

  • I love survivors who self-care - as a killer :)

  • Stop caring what random people on the internet think of you?

I mean seriously - what do you care if they teabag etc? Don't let others live rent-free in your head and ruin any fun you have in the game.

  • Probably a good idea. You want to make sure your point is easily readable so that others can weigh in on the topic.

  • Punctuation is your friend - I couldn't be bothered to try and decipher that block of words.

  • I play like every killer has BBQ - simple solution. As a killer I love when I see random survivors just running around doing nothing when I hook someone - easy targets.

  • I know there is a bug, but in the past week as killer I have only seen 2 keys used in approximately 30-32 matches.

As survivor I have played approx 25 matches and have only seen hatch used once and that was due to everyone else already exited the match.

These were all red rank matches - doubt that matters much. Like most things that survivor/killer mains complain about - it tends to be a bit hyperbolic.

  • Dead Hard has TWO conditions that have to be met - 1. You have to be injured and 2. You cannot be exhausted.. Let's look at the other exhaustion perks shall we:

Lithe: 1. You have to use a pallet/window and 2. Not be exhausted

Sprint Burst: 1. You have to walk/crouch everywhere and 2. You cannot be exhausted

Balanced Landing: 1. You need to fall from a "great" height and 2. You cannot be exhausted

Smash Hit: 1. You need to stun the killer and 2. You cannot be exhausted

Oh look every exhaustion perk has two conditions that must be met to use them... Hmm.

I escape WAY more chases with Lithe than I ever have with Dead Hard. You would think with all the hyperbole on the forums that it's God Tier when in actuality it's just...another exhaustion perk that is EASILY countered.

  • They have already addressed comms: They have an official Discord server that can be used for SWFs.

I rarely SWF and even when I do - don't use comms probably half that time.

As a killer I have no issues with SWFs or comms - then again I prefer more of a challenge and not easy wins against 4 random people who run around like chickens with their heads cut off lol.

  • I don't mind going against SWFs - I find them slightly more challenging but easier to exploit their altruism :)

  • You don't.

I have been a red rank killer for almost 4 years - I main Doctor and also play Huntress regularly and have no issues getting 2-4k.

  • No clue - I have chat closed. Never seen the purpose of it since most people just use it to showcase their bigotry and immaturity.

  • As a 50/50 player I think the game is SLIGHTLY more killer sided. Yes you will get some SWFs that are nigh impossible to 3-4k but on average - I get way more BP (even without BBQ) as a killer.

  • My SWF (2-4 man SWF) escape percentage is approx 7% higher than my solo escape percentage over 3173 games as survivor (yep I track them all).

My solo escape rate is 65.6% and my SWF escape rate is 72.7%.

My 2 man SWF escape rate is highest 73.2% and my 4 man SWF escape rate is 71.9%.

I played a total of 2781 solo matches and 392 SWF matches.

Total I have played 6824 matches - with 3651 as killer. I say I am a 50/50 player but it's slightly more killer matches.

  • @BrokenSouI said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/243960/can-gen-rushing-really-be-considered-a-thing

The problem is gens don't take long enough to do. On top of having things like prove thyself and BNP to make them go even faster. Meanwhile they just removed the last add ons that give killers any sort of slowdown on gens. Then when killers have to slug and camp hooks(at the right times) and use NOED for any sort of a second chance. It's cried about and called boring

And? Who gives a flying fork what people call you? Seriously I have never seen a player base so triggered by what strangers think of them than in DBD. Don't like what people say to you - stop reading end game chat - simple solution.

If it is in the game...killer or survivor side - then it is fair game to be used and if people don't like that - that's their problem.

  • @Mineguy said:

No joke, someone insulted me a few minutes for not tunneling. He couldn't use his perks and I was boring to play against.

Okay what do I can do then? When I tunnel I get insulted and now when I'm not tunneling I also get insulted? No wonder killer mains are quiting by this weird logic

What can you do? Turn off end game chat - it serves no purpose. Not sure why people care what other people think about them.

  • Have fun with your 13k match then. 13k will not be enough to pip you in purple/red ranks so - have fun. You are also denying yourself a lot of the chances of extra BP from doing rift and daily challenges by just doing gens.

  • I have no issues with Starstruck.

It has two major requirements - someone has to be carried AND you have to be within the terror radius. I find the people who have the biggest problem with it are 2-4 man SWFs due to them trying to be overly altruistic. I actually find being exposed adds a fear component to the game. While exposed you can't run around all willy nilly and have to play smarter for the duration of exposure.

  • God I hope they never consider that. I tried HSHS but grew bored of it after around 4 hours.

  • No clue then - only time I see matches this badly composed is when a purple/red rank plays with a low level friend.

  • Looks like the rank 4 is teaming with at least one of the appropriate level survivors.

  • I like going against SWFs as killer - slightly more of a challenge - while at the same time - easy to exploit their sense of altruism :) I find a lot of killers simply think they should be able to m1 and special ability over and over and win the same way every time. My advice - learn to adapt. Which is also the advice I give survivors when dealing with killers who tunnel or camp.

I play survivor 50% of the time and MAYBE 10% of that I team with 1-2 other people. My escape rates when SWFing compared to solo are barely increased. This notion that all (or even a majority) of SWFs are toxic or overpowered is hyperbole.

  • Oh well then that makes more sense, BUT I will say - you were not going to get an "easy 4k" - you only killed one and they only needed one more gen to start the end game. They must have played decent to get 4 gens done with only 1 kill. You MAY have gotten a 4k, but prolly closer to a 2-3k. Now let's say in your scenario the other 3 were on death hook - then you would have had 9 hooks which is a win in my book. Curious what your score was at the end - because that's how I determine if I "win" a match. I don't need a 4k to win as that doesn't do anything for me - bloodpoints on the other hand do. This is why I focus on all 4 emblems each match instead of focusing on 1-2 - which is why I always laugh when killers camp/tunnel. (not saying you did either)

1 … 15 16 17 18 19 … 22
