I'll start with a little preface. Everyone will agree that playing solo as a survivor is something in the language of eternal suffering. If anyone needs an explanation of why this is so, here are a few:
- SWEATY KILLERS;
- most people really don't understand what they're doing and why;
- few people understand that instead of cleansing totems, which will not lead to victory, they have to repair the damn generators;
- an incredible amount of trolls who are deliberately ruining the game;
- people are afraid to save other survivors from the hook because the sweaty killer immediately returns to the hook and there are 2 options: either he tunnels the one who was on the hook, or punishes the one who saved the person from the hook;
- if you are a solo survivor who is trying to play the game as it was intended, not hiding in lockers and not sitting in bushes but making generators and saving people from hooks, you will be the first who die most of the time;
- your chances of escaping are very low, 9/10 games you will be killed, while playing as a killer 9/10 games you will get your sweaty 4K (lovely balance).
The idea of a Solo Q mode
The normal game mode means that the survivor can freely invite friends and accordingly there is a huge difference in balance between a solo game and a game with a coordinated group of people. The solution is simple - just add a solo mode in which you cannot invite anyone and to register for a match you must be solo. Also considering the fact that such a game will be with completely random uncoordinated people, this mod will need some changes:
1. "Self care" needs buff, so that the player has the opportunity to take care of themselves, because not all survivors want to heal you, and the current speed and efficiency of this ability takes too much time.
2. The audio and visual feedback for the Killer when a Survivor is unhooked should be removed. It's like a red rag to a bull for the Killer, they immediately run to the unhooking location and pressure players. The Killer will still be able to track the unhooking using the game UI, but at least returning to the unhooking location will be a less obvious call to action. This will give the survivors at least some air.
3. No damn mori offering. I still think mori is OP and the fact that some stupid offering can change the gameplay so much is complete bs, but that's a topic for a separate thread. Let's be honest, random people are unlikely to save you from death, it happens incredibly rarely. But at least it should be possible, and as we know, just the presence of mori deprives survivors of the ability to make a save using a flashlight (lightborne is also OP), body blocking or sabotage. This requires coordination, so mori in this situation is just another advantage for killers.
And ofc mori for the last survivor should'nt exist.There are many reasons for this and it is better to talk about it in a separate thread.
4. This is obvious, but for some reason it's still not implemented in the game - a hint during loading something like "Reparing generators is the best way to escape". Yeah, not everyone knows that. I don't understand what people expect who don't do gens and instead just walk around the map, open chests and clean totems.
Why is this important?
When playing as a killer, you really do face a big difference when playing against a random group of survivors or a coordinated discord group. If you're like me, not a sweaty but fair killer, you'll likely get cooked and face toxicity and bullying. For a solo survivor, the experience is even worse because you are completely alone, your group can completely ignore you and on top of all this, you get the sweatiest killer who thinks he is playing in a world tournament. So the solo mode will improve the gaming experience not only for survivors, but also for killers. And leave the normal mode for the self-proclaimed cyber-sportsman on both sides, let the sweaty ones fight the same sweaty ones like themselves. And in case the sweaty killer wants to punish random people in solo mode, some balance changes are needed for that.Around half of all survs in total are in a two-man SWF, with trios and quads far less common. This suggestion would cripple queue times for everyone, and SWF would likely never get a match again.
-
As others have said, Windows is popular at all levels of play for very good reasons. New players benefit form running it to learn maps and spawn possibilities, solos can know what resources have been used or not to help minimize heading into deadzones, and veterans maximize loops with it as well.
How many perks are actually consistently useful for all survs of all skills?

Now idk about you but when this survivor is able to predict my moves and even my mindgames while the rest of the team gen rushes like no tommarrow and somehow gets them done in record time(seriously 4 gens done in under 1mins, idk about you but i'm gonna suspect cheating is at play.
And before you rush in to call me a butthurt loser, i checked their perks, items and addons. The survivor i was chasing had no way to predict my movement like they did and the rest of the gen rushing team either had no perk to speed up gen progression or no toolbox, in fact ONE of them had a toolbox no other did. Mathmatically, its impossible to get 4 gens done in under 1min. two?; sure with perks+toolboxes and 2 survivors on each gen but 4? no, not possible.
And lastly, NO I did not record this because if I had to record every single match I played on a daily basis my HD would be filled to the brim within a week and I have far more important things to use my HD space for.
Your welcome to assume what you like but just know anyone who believes cheaters don't exist in DBD or that the odds of encountering one are extremely low OR that they only target streamers is being willing ignorant to the reality where cheaters are a major problem in DBD for streamer and non-streamer alike.
Subtle cheaters plague at least 30% of the playerbase at this point while another 10% are more obvious about it and target streamers for attention. That's 40% of our player pop who is subtle or blatantly cheating.
Where did I get these numbers? Lets just say that while I don't use these tools myself, i frequent the forums where people use them a dev's cheattool's consensus in dec of 2024 was at 9,537 people either using their cheattool or using someone else's.
That's 9,537 of 25k daily players who cheat while that may seem like a small number, IT'S NOT and should not be taken lightly.
There's no way 40% of the trials have hacking/cheating going on. Most of the global playerbase is on the consoles, heck there's more on the various PlayStations than on Steam for instance. I doubt more than 1% of the consolers are hacking anything. Are you saying 40% of those just on Steam are cheating? Again I find that hard to believe as well.

@Atom7k said:
I don't want to insult the dev's but the fact that a player can disable the hook mechanic, clip through pallets and increase the speed he runs at to a laughable level really rises the question how that can happen without the game noticing.
I just played against a cheater who did this so extremly obvious that even other survivors were catching up on it. Of course I recorded and reported him but if bhvr is so lazy and doesn't enable mac bans then this little noob will just buy another Epic account for 1 $ and keeps cheating.
The only thing worse then an obvious cheater is a subtile cheater. Vaulting 5 % faster, running 3 % faster, hitbox 10 % smaller, exhaustion 10 % faster recovered, blind 0.5 seconds longer, stun longer, gen 10 % faster, wallhacks.
They not only are still skilless noobs but it also makes you as the killer really question your skills, your ping, the game, god and the base mechanics. Subtile cheaters are a daily thing in dbd and it is beyond frustrating.The game doesn't notice because the servers do not do any sanity checks, looking for impossibilities such as a character moving at ridiculous speeds or flying.

I'm wondering if any of our PC cousins are willing to even wait the 14 minutes for me to painfully type out a sentence with my controller....

The best way to play DbD is however you wanna play it, and to treat others how you wanna be treated.
Can you bottle that and ship some to like everyone please and thank you!
-
Its a product of tons of content in a game from 2016 that is still adding more, and changing most of what is already in it since then. Saying DBD is not new player friendly is a gross understatement, and in the last two years or more it's no longer casual friendly either.
Takes hundreds of hours and 14 YouTube videos to get to the point of not sucking at the game. It takes hundreds more and 114 videos and many many losses to gain good game sense and be knowledgeable in most situations.
There's just that much to learn and retain, and then apply correctly. If most of the overall playerbase doesn't play more than a couple of hours at a time 1-4 days a week, well...
And I think those with much more knowledge and hours than me often forget that.

How is it if you are going into a game yet your server kicks the person out they get banned? Your server states session expired? Why? I don't know. Been kicked out.
Have also had sessions expire near the end of a game. Playing killer most survs hooked, session expired. Kicked. Lost all points. Wasted time. Banned.
Now why are you punishing the individual for getting kicked from your server vs from a person quitting? Your server may not know the difference but hey then lift the ban effect. Getting kicked and banned due to expired sessions is crazy.
If you're referring to the matchmaking lock when a player is disconnected, yes it treats all DC's the same and applies the penalty. It doesn't differentiate between server issues or manual disconnects, and if it did it would be so open to abuse as players then could just unplug a wire and avoid the penalty.

To add to this:
She is also the one Killer where you cannot transfer any knowledge from other Killers to her. If someone starts playing Wraith for example and starts doing well with him, switching to Trapper will have immediate results and despite being a new Killer for this person, they can use their knowledge from Wraith to perform better with Trapper.
This does not work for Nurse.
And obviously that Nurse is a free Killer, which tanks her Killrate a bit.
Not unless your masochistic and go no-blink bamboozle spirit fury enduring battle Nurse! 🤣

Lobby shopping around like that is not too good for their matchmaking system.

These are the stats for the month and this was a pinhead release. so the statistics show that he was very cool at the release, but they are not true. look at Nurse. Is this really the weakest killer in the game? no, she is the strongest
Nurse has usually had the lowest kill rate because new players read "Here is the strongest killer in the game, and she's free!" aaaannnnnnddddd then find out you need to put in hours and hours of practice with her & take loss after loss to get good, plus not being very controller friendly either. Since most aren't willing to do the work they drop her after losing too much.

Yeah, there are killers where you won't do well mentally if you take games with them seriously. SoloQ is same to me.
That's the sanest approach. I don't play much Ghostface and always try to get some wholesome dancing going when I do.

Hi,
I started playing on global release on PS4 and stopped in 2019, but I got back into the game last August. Don't get me wrong—the game is incredible—but the ping issues are a major problem. We're in 2025 now, and having ping starting from 35ms to 80ms (and sometimes even 120ms) seems unreal for an online game. Taking hits from seemingly out of nowhere is frustrating and makes the experience less enjoyable. It's demotivating and makes me question whether I want to keep playing. On top of that, there’s the issue of killers slugging, which wastes 20 minutes of my precious time (im unemployed). , I’m in France, just an hour from Paris, with 2.5Gb/s download and 1Gb/s upload speeds. In every other game, my ping never exceeds 10ms, yet in this game, it feels like the servers are located somewhere near Jupiter.It's making the game borderline unplayable for an online experience but still, i love this game, i just want DBD to be a respectable game and not a alpha draft game who doesn't update
Love yall
If you're playing with 10ms ping your connection is godlike and we're all quite jelly! 😁
I've been hovering at 70-90 wired ever since Blight was introduced. This includes moving twice, going from the Xbox1x to the Series X, two different routers, and upgrading the speed of my Internet as well. With other games it's always less than 50, but not for DBD. And I can drive to their server nearest me in less than three hours.

I mean, that's same for several killers. I really don't expect to 4k every game, when I go to play Pig…
The Piggly Wiggly lifestyle is more about the fun and memes really! 🐽🐷
-
I can see any system like this being too open to abuse, such as SWF groups mass down-voting killers they just don't like going against (or their playstyles etc.)
-
A complaint about a Pig add-on. It's been a while.
-
@UknownShredder said:
What they should do is to force you to activate your mic in SoloQ And if you using 3rd party coms like discord they should punish you the same way when you DC… The game was not designed to have someone say " the killer is going to main now everyone go to shack" So when the killer gets there there is noone there because they got some information perk that is ten times stonger than any perk in game , possibly combined.
How in the world could the devs enforce this? Discord is a separately running program that DBD couldn't detect. And what about the consoles? Comms are built directly into them, and again are separate from whatever game is being played.

Those who do not subscribe to the "go next" philosophy won't go for this.

They should honestly implement the BBQ stacks into the basekit, maybe a bit different. Like if you always hook a different survivor prior to your last hook you get a bp bonus that grows the longer you keep the "streak" going.
I can see something like that working. If you don't hook the same surv twice in a row maybe that earns a stack. Definitely has possibilities!
-
This is why I love Detective's Hunch and Inner Strength. If it glows it goes! I will agree that totem placements could always use tweaking, but as they squeeze maps it forces gens and totems closer together. Still they could do better in this regard.
Survs that are much better than me tend to ignore hex's until Devour pops anyway.

Not really a set build per se, but I'm much more likely to run something super sweaty or slap on NOED with Freddy. It's the whole point of his character. You're in the dream world. It's rigged.
Rigged!?!? I'm using that it's so good!
When playing as a surv NOED just felt so cheap when it pops, always has. But coupled with Huntress and Blood Warden it can be so satisfying if you time the hook correctly! 😎

I'll run adept Piggly Wiggly if I don't feel like winning this week! 🐽🐷

Depends on the killer being played and the map mostly.

@angel_pellegrino said:
Although I know it's not a popular idea, I think they key to improving DBD is in not putting so much pressure on survivors to survive and killers to kill. When I say that, I mean killers should get a good amount of points for chasing and hooking people, especially spreading out the hooks. And survivors should be amply rewarded for looping, unhooking, altruism, surviving till endgame, etc. That way everyone feels like they accomplished something and can spend points on their characters, even if they didn't win.
I know the devs have made it clear that all they care about are kills and escapes, but I think the results of that opinion are what we're dealing with now, in unsustainable playstyles that result in rage quits, quiting the game, bitterness, anger, etc. If people felt like playing the game was accomplishing something enough, maybe so many people wouldn't feel the need to play like their lives depend on it. Nobody likes to get curb stomped for a tiny bit of bp.
This is where I feel the absence of old BBQ & Chile. The bloodpoint bonus being tied to each unique hook plus the aura reading being far gave killers decent incentive to both spread hooks and not camp either. That perk helped check the super efficient gameplay I think. Back then I would definitely prioritize getting my stonks! 😂
Likewise old old Ruin gave survs sufficient cause to look for totems first, slowing gens when the killer is at their greatest disadvantage, which is when the trial begins. The issues with that version of Ruin were both being completely a noob stomper and also subject to framerates in peer-to-peer days & the early dedicated servers.

The DC penalty is working exactly as intended - to discourage players like you from ruining other people's games because you quit if you aren't having fun. Screw everyone else, right?
Also, the game will not give you a DC penalty if the server kicks you out.

Wrong, the games still give you a penalty if you are disconnected by the game itself during the match
I have video evidence
I've been tossed from trials with that "Server is not responding" message many times over the last year and a half or so.
Most of the time I do not get a DC penalty but sometimes I have, so it is certainly not very consistent.

Recently got a mouse for fps games which has massively improved my aiming and thought it would be great to try on some ranged killers in dbd.
Sadly there isnt an option to enable a mouse input for console at the moment which a real shame seeing as pc players have a massive advantage over controllers when using ranged or mobile killers.
Even just a mouse input would be great as i play a controller mouse combo which makes up for the clunkiness of keyboard movements.

Unplayable is bit of a stretch, but I will say most of the killers cannot be run any where near their full potential with a controller, and it takes much much longer to get very good with them. I'd say Singularity and Trickster are still the most difficult to play with a controller.

yeah that's just how crossplay works in most games. which is why i really hate it when people say that people have the option to turn crossplay on/off if they don't like it…99% of people don't switch it from whatever the default is unless they have the option signaled to them on boot-up. and then there's the other issue that some games' version of crossplay is just putting console players in PC lobbies. see how well received that was for R6 siege…
I'd love Console-only matchmaking for DBD, especially since M&K is not supported and framerates being what they are for this game.
But I do not see that ever happening, because they do want one unified playerbase and it also would hurt PC lobby times badly.
