To address the possible changes to slugging, I firmly believe they intend to go after early trial no gens done all four survs down slugging for the four minutes. I think that narrow kind of slugging is the target, just as the AFC feature was only added to deal with a specific situation.
-
That black and white screen? We don't need that back, especially still lacking adequate in-game brightness settings.

@Reinami said:
They shouldn't do it on PTB, they should do it on live. Make a separate queue for "Experimental" you get more players that way. And they can test things like "no bloodlust" or "early game warmup" or "basekit DS" or any other crazy thing they want to see what happens.
Its opt-in, so players don't have to do it, and give a small little bonus for doing it so they get enough data.
That would prolly be the only way to include all platforms and not just those from Steam.

I want them to do classic DBD game modes but do multiple iterations with each major patch from release in 2016 to Ash in 2019. I want each mode be exactly how the game was on release day of those patches. Broken Legion, broken MoM, old hatch with keys mid match and hatch grabs, original Freddy and Doctor, etc.
Walking backwards staring at the ground Legion. It certainly has been a while..

I would love to see a theater mode get added to the game. I think it would be a great addition to be able to watch the game back from other peoples POV or in free mode. Not only would it be great for making cinematics videos, but also for spotting mistakes for self improvement.
I seen another discussion about theater mode from another user, and wonder why something like this hasn't been implemented already. Would love to see feedback from the community/behavior themselves.
If you're referring to a match replay system, I believe they said it's almost impossible to add it in now, that it would have had to been originally coded back in 2016. So it's kinda too late now.
Maybe in a hypothetical DBD2 someday?

I don’t understand why Ptb can’t be on console?
The PTB version of the game would be its own download, and they have to pay for each update to the consoles. And then there's the certification process Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo each separately do to all updates, which can take several days at least.
Believe me I wish we had PTB access as well. Weeks go by before we get our hands on new stuff and see how it plays on the consoles, and with a controller too. There is a way, as both Minecraft and DayZ have "experimental" versions on Xbox for instance. But I don't see it ever happening, and as Pulsar mentioned it mostly for eyeballs mainly these days.
-
Those of us who played DBD in the 2016-2020 range may be seeing things through nostalgia, but it certainly felt wayyyyyyy more fun and chaotic.
Changes to the game over say the last two or three years has made the game feel more efficient and almost competitive-like, which will always feel less fun to longer term players.
Now don't get me wrong, the surv hud and hook BT and anti-facecamp are great (as are some other changes) but it must be said we got to the point of needing such things for very specific reasons.

It's no surprise people want to play 2v8, Chaos Shuffle, etc year-round. But of course, the queue times being a mess whenever they come about make that impossible to have.
For public servers anyway, I propose they add these modes to customs, so they are readily available all the time for those that still want to play them after they've left. Of course they won't be able to do challenges, gain levels, or bloodpoints in customs, but it's about having fun that matters with these modes! Custom mode is well over-due for some love anyway, I think this would work well for everyone.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/BKPQQLJYC9DO/20250120135045-1.jpg
I believe customs is still functionally KYF mode, which is the old peer-to-peer lobby where the the killer is the host before dedicated servers were introduced. This has not gotten much of the under the hood updating that the main game has received, so these modes may not be possible in there.
-
Unsportsmanlike is too strong a word imo, but it is like passing on what you think is a problem to others.
They tested and then removed showing Prestiges in lobbies just because of the amount of lobby dodging and/or shopping around. That tells me ilt messes with their matchmaking system a lot, and I imagine they are looking at ways to strengthen it further.
Maybe one day the lobby will become locked, or even there won't be a lobby at all. We'll see. The only legit reasons I see for the lobby existing anymore are the killer having the opportunity to prepare for items, and the chat box. Since most of the playerbase cannot even see or use the chat anyway (and it has a dubious reputation) that prolly can go as well.
-
Didn't I read somewhere being able to do this depends on the country you're in & local laws and such? So it might depend on the region in DBD terms.
-
Singularity indoors is somehow worse than Billy indoors.
-
I've always felt the true advantage of SWF is not the comms directly, it's the pairing up of players to lessen the randomness of solo queue.
You know they will not let you get into second stage on hook if they can help it, you know their loadouts, you know if they're doing a challenge or daily, they will bodyblock, you know they'll come back for you, etc.
All of that really cannot be approximated among solos, where you're so often at the mercy of teammates who are mostly just allies.
-
Tombstone Myers will just love this idea...

The biggest problem with MMR is the trade off between queue times and match accuracy. Everytime BHVR has tried to make MMR stricter, it comes with complaints of queue times and ultimately it gets scrapped. People want instant lobbies even though it leads to the most unbalanced matches.
I agree, and combined with lobby dodging and shopping around it leads to the steamrolls no one wants over and over.

And I've apparently escaped HALF my survivor matches, which I would love to be the case but I play solo survivor so I'm sorry but that's not even close.

https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3872671#Comment_3872671
That’s great to know, thank you for replying. The Oni is so cool and scary, I’m glad he is manageable on controller.
I don't think Trapper, Wraith, or my beloved Piggly Wiggly are terribly different, as most basic attack based ones are close.
The problems arise when you must have snappy camera movement and very responsive movement to excell, and the controller cannot keep up.

As a console player, almost all of the high skill ceiling killers like Blight, Wesker, Oni, Nurse, and Chucky. They're too difficult to play effectively on controller. I would also like to play Spirit more because I love the character and cosmetics, but Iron Will is too meta that I get frustrated too much.
The biggest one for me though is Pyramid Head. I'm a gigantic SH fan, but I just find him too clunky to play. The range attack is extremely easy to dodge for good survivors that I have more success just constantly faking the range attack with isn't that fun. I also don't enjoy hardcore tunneling which he's the king at
Yeah having to play with a controller is frustratingly limiting for so many killers. Most cannot be run anywhere near their full potential.

To address the notion of a third Zombie, they indeed did messed around with this back when they were developing Nemmy. An iri addon would spawn in an additional Zombie, and apparently it tanked game performance so badly they scrapped the idea and changed the add-on.
Assuming they develop on some badass PC's that's kinda frightening for most people's rigs, let alone a Switch. There's a reason the surv bots are so different from the zombies in abilities and tendencies. Even with the recent upgrade to UE5 this is probably beyond their coding.

While agree no map should give a strong advantage to either role, there are some killer builds that are absolutely map dependant. Perhaps those builds need looking at, as well as tweaking maps to be less one sided?

As others have pointed out there's ways to deal with Myers indoors like this with that build, and it's pretty much useless if they don't get the map. Myers locked into tier 1 is quite slow, it's more about those jumpscare hits.
Imo it's more of an issue with the add-ons.

Eventually the ps4 won't exist because the older and more you use the console, the higher the chance the internal components expire. Sure people could probably buy somewhere refurbished or new in package for cheap but I expect the majority to move on from old gen consoles.
And I'm willing to bet BHVR is betting on that too.
The issue with that approach is that half of all those using the PlayStations are still on one of the PS4's globally, and I imagine Xbox is similar. And those on one of the various PlayStations is the largest portion of the DBD playerbase.

This was years ago. It would not destroy the game by any means if they added 1 more zombie. I refuse to believe this. Especially with todays engine, killer bots, survivor bots…
At the time….sure I will roll with it I guess…Still hard to believe, but now? 2025? No.
Never underestimate the unwieldy nature of their coding. Underneath it all is 2016 guts made from Blueprints tossed with some spicy C++ seasoning added on.

FPS and fighting games have managed to have (relatively) accurate hitboxes for years now. It's absolutely possible.
Those games do not have DBD's famous coding.
-

For the love of God, can Huntress please have to actually aim her hatchets? The hit box is WAY too wide. I've literally had hits register around corners.
I used to swear she was tossing around homing beachball-sized hatchets with GPS, but when you see it from the killer's perspective it's ping & latency mostly. Same thing with being hit once you've vaulted and taken a step or two.

So yeah, now I understand better the way you are thinking. If you want some pure pain try Singularity with one. Also Trickster used to be impossible with a controller, but thankfully they removed the recoil. Neither are fun to play imo, clunky and unresponsive to me.

I don't believe it has ever been acknowledged.
Reaaallllyy hoping they acknowledge it soon because it’s becoming a big hindrance for me. Me and my duo now avoid playing during what we call “packet loss hours”, which is around the times Scott mentions. 6, 7, 8, 9 PM.
Oh this has been a thing since dedicated servers came out to varying degrees, so say 2018 or so. It just becomes way more pronounced whenever there's high demand on their servers. Things llike events or big chapters or peak playing times, or the upgrade to UE5 a couple of months back.

Just came across this video from Scott Jund
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVeYPeSpuh8&t=12s
and it matches my experiences recently down to a T, particularly with regards to the server issues. I've been frantically trying since last October (some of you might remember my posts about server issues back then lol) to solve packet loss and stutters with absolutely no success because It turns out they're actually issues with DbD and I'm not the only one affected.Initially I thought the problem was on my end, because not a lot of people have been talking about this and I've had internet problems in the past. So I went through all the common troubleshooting with no resolution. Then I got in touch with my ISP and asked if packets were being dropped on their end. They investigated and even sent out engineers to check everything and found no problems. I tried replacing my router, ethernet cables, and other hardware. Still no fix. And got in touch with DbD support but nothing fruitful came of it.
After a couple of months I figured it must be a me problem somehow and I'd just deal with it. Then a friend played some matches after a hiatus from the game and told me they're seeing the same problems on their end. Packet loss during peak hours, random game stutters, and generally poor optimisation. Now I see Scott putting out a video with the EXACT same problems and lots of others in the comments having them too.
So, turns out it's not a me issue, and there's legitemately something going wrong with the game for a decent chunk of players. PLEASE look into this. I actually can't play from 6 PM because the servers get so bad.
When there's high demand on their servers the minor memory leaks become not so minor, and you run into the issues you describe. I don't believe it has ever been acknowledged.

@DTJObe said:
It is a universally accepted truth that SWF with 3rd party communications break game balance. This has been settled in the years since SWF was implemented to prevent survivors from lobby dodging to match up with their friends.
Unfortunately, SWF provides teamed up survivors with massive amounts of free information. This results in:
- SWF survivors having the equivalent of aura reading on their teamed survivors.
- SWF survivors having the equivalent of partial aura reading on the killer when the killer is in view of a teamed survivor.
- SWF survivors having the equivalent of aura partial aura reading on gen progress for gens near a teamed survivor.
- Higher sacrifice rates for Solo survivors and less enjoyable matches.
- Less enjoyable matches and lower kill rates for killers who feel they are powerless against organized SWF teams.
BHVR has stated that SWF is now a core part of the game. This would be a perfectly fine stance IF there were a plan in place to solve the disparities caused by SWFs. As there is no such plan on the roadmap, this becomes a problematic position. But what is the solution for balancing the SWF power disparity?
Some have suggested a SWF-free killer queue with a BP bonus for killers who choose matching against SWFs. This is a poor solution as it increases queue times astronomically on both ends.
My personal suggestion may be technically difficult to input; however, it is hardly an impossible feature to implement, and it would improve the health of the game significantly.
Required Proximity Comms for SWF
A brief explanation of how this would best be structured:
- Any SWF would be required to have an active microphone input before beginning a match.
- Microphone input would go out to X meters.
- Survivors could be reported for comms abuse (blasting music, etc).
- Muting microphones in game would not be possible; however, muting the microphone from the device itself would be possible.
What are the benefits and the pitfalls?
- SWFs would be easier to locate for killers, and killers could hear callouts if survivors aren’t careful.
- Solo queue would be a stealthier way to play, giving solo an advantage to even the gap with SWF.
- SWF would need to be quiet when the killer was nearby. This would increase immersion and add a new dimension to the party game aspect (think Quiet Library or similar). It would also make streaming more entertaining, imo.
- SWF could communicate with solo, giving them information in critical moments.
- This would create a new, more level playing field for SWF and solo queue, and BHVR could then balance from that point.
- Unfortunately, SWF survivors COULD mute their microphones specifically for DBD from their machines; however, assuming that this is a party game and not competitive, this should be the minority because there’s no fun in that.
From my perspective, this is the easiest to implement solution to the SWF-Solo disparity they alsoincreases game enjoyment for all parties. In open for critiques, though. Let me know your thoughts!
Listen they cannot in any way mess with comms on the consoles, as mentioned above, and that's the vast majority of the playerbase. Even if this was implemented somehow for the PC players they have 1387 or so ways to work around such things. Unenforceable.

I am aware but that wasn't apart of my build, mad grit is really a niche perk, sure it can come in handy but the moment surviors realize your running it, it becomes useless because they won't bother to body block anymore, if you can keep this hidden till end game it could become an asset but for the most part its niche.
Aren't like 83.997% of all perks niche and super situational in the first place? Deliverance with Breakdown once a gate is open is amazing and very satisfying, aaaannnnnnddddd trying to pull it off will get you killed almost all of the time.
I try to find the fun in DBD wherever I can. 😋

They tried to play it off as nothing but i knew they were all pissy they didn't get that 4man escape they sweated so hard for.:P
Especially the one who told me to touch grass… LMAO!!!!
Mad Grit is a fun way to discourage survs from bodyblocking like that. Saves me from having to drop em, and most SWF groups are vulnerable to getting themselves killed for each other in endgame.
Whenever the gens are done and more than one surv is alive (and especially healed) I always expect some attempts at teamwork anyway.

That add-on is too situational and map-dependant to be truly OP, and has a huge downside as well. Her "free-hit" aspect using it is not that different that Wraith, two killers I don't think I've ever compared before actually. 🤔
