"This the definition of unfair."
It is an asynchronous Game. The pressure is usually on the power role. If the killer makes too many mistakes the survivors can win without too much personal skill, but just with sharing tasks and good timing which is in a way group skill. It is fair to the extent of an asynchronous game.
"Even the guys that play this game professionally"
To my knowledge there are no professional players who earn their money with playing DbD. It is not their full time job.
"it's balanced around giving bad survivors a chance against good killers"
Not really. It is designed so that Killers can't just stomp survivors with just simply chasing around random survivors. Most people don't get this because they associate killers with overpowered Hollywood Brutes, but in DbD as Killer you have to actually think and adapt a lot.
The nurse is a good example. And especially the video is also a good example. Many killer players associate blinking, hitting and downing survivors exclusively with skill. They watch the video and think "but he played so perfect" just because he downed them fastly most of the time, ignoring all the many mistakes that happened. He could have made it minimum 3k many times.
As I said in my older post, the video is a good example, he is good at blinking but bad at decision making. It is a big part of playing Killer successfully.
Being a one trick pony is not enough to 4k against high ranks.
The point of an asynchronous game is that four players combined need to equal the power of one player. That means that the killer needs to be able to easily win against a single survivor. That isn't the case in this game. It's completely possible to exclusively chase one survivor for the entire game and still not win against that survivor.
There may not be tournaments, but plenty of streamers making their living off this game. They play it for 8-24 hours at a time, several times a week.
Thinking and adapting will only get you so far with the current balance. Try playing Wraith on Ormond vs decent survivors and tell me how far you get with "thinking ahead". You're literally limited by your move speed and the map.
-
Every time I get crapped on by one of these teams, I load up old leatherface or a mori and make one or two unlucky players suffer. Always makes me feel better.

He did a one trick pony play and made many mistakes. He knows how to blink but that's pretty much it. He missed many attacks, wasted a lot of time, picked up the wrong people repeatedly, and threw a safe hook because he got greedy twice.
The survivors stayed focused and achieved unhooking and repairing simultaneously.
Survivors do not need to play highly skilled in order to escape. If they share tasks efficiently it already applies a lot of pressure towards the killer.
In my opinion it is fair. Playing killer means to sweat. If you want a calm and chill round killer is not for you. At least not in higher ranks. You need to do more than just run after people and hit them. You need to think what to do next all the time. You need to stay focused on what is the best action all the time. You need strategy. For example when he downed the 3 survivors he should not have been greedy and chase for the 4th but hook one. He should have rather focused on killing off one in these scenarios, rather than trying to slug them all. Taking away their ability to multi task. Their only strength in the video.
In competitive games I played it was pretty normal to sweat, think and act more situational. I would not want it to be any different. Always planning ahead and keep the current overall situation in mind.
But in DbD people think that the killer role should be like the killers in Hollywood movies?
"Survivors don't need to play skilled to escape and I think it's fair".... This is the definition of unfair. If you need to be perfect as killer to win against unskilled survivor, every killer in the game needs a massive buff, because if the survivors do play perfect, killer has no chance at all.
This is the entire problem with the game right now, it's balanced around giving bad survivors a chance against good killers, which makes great survivors dominate great killers. Even the guys that play this game professionally are getting stomped by good survivors, and that's a huge problem. When monto can't get a single kill with body blocker hag, you know the game is horribly unbalanced.

100% agree! But we would need to first fix the issues with the game including matchmaking, and then figure out a system for survivors. Also try to make the killers as close to balanced as possible to people can't abuse the system.
The survivor system works fine the way it is. Couple of tweaks here and there for more depips and it would be fine. The only thing I would add to survivor is a martyr emblem, so if a killer facecamps or tunnels you to death, you get at least half way towards a black pip and 5K bloodpoints.
-
Move to side of hook, look at hook pole, swing. Tbag the downed survivor for being an idiot.

Then they need to fix and change if the community agrees on a 50% kill rate. The community needs to agree what is balanced on stats, then the devs need to take an accurate stat check, and move from there. I feel that 75% kill rate is too high, and only 1 survivor escaping every round isn't healthy. I need to know what more people thing would be balanced if an accurate study was taken.
Basically 25% should be depip, 50% should be black pip, 75% should be one pip, and 100% should be double pip. Throw the complicated emblem system right in the ######### trash.

That is if you have no gen pressure. The gens are currently survivor favoured but if you just tunnel one person all game, you are at fault for not having any pressure.
If all 4 survivors are perfect at looping, then the game does become near impossible for the killer. Result of the game being balanced around less skilled people.
Ding ding ding, we have a Wraith in the house. Under no circumstances should this game be impossible for killer, but it is. By balancing around the fun of inexperienced idiots, you're handing a loaded gun to experienced bullies, which makes the game as fun as a colonoscopy if you're killer.
-
The game being balanced around 2-2 is all fine and dandy, except for the fact that killer doesn't pip around that balance.
-
The mere fact that ANY survivor, I don't care if it's noob3 himself, can run a killer for 3-4 gens tells you how screwed to hell this game really is. That shouldn't be possible and is unacceptable.
-
But did the bugged/hacking survivor have fun? That's the most important thing.

Balanced landing, slight nerf. Oh yeah, I can really feel the survivors pain.

StarCraft is also a game published and developed by a massive corporation that's got lots and lots of money. They can afford to keep a game going on just balance patches with a focus exclusively on eSports (which also makes them lots of money).
Dead by Daylight, however, is a smaller game from a smaller studio, that constantly adds new content (not just balance changes, like StarCraft) and doesn't make any money off of a large eSport Scene. Instead, it relies exclusively on MicroTransactions to make a profit. MicroTransactions, you might notice, don't make all that much money, unless you have a larger playerbase. Something you're not going to manage to do, if you're only balancing your game for the couple hundred hardcore high level players.
I can tell you're young, I'm old enough to have bought Warcraft 2 on launch day. They had just moved from a 3000sqft building into a 14Ksqft office and had about 15 employees, 8 programmers worked on it. They were just good at their jobs.

I've already decided my plan. Quitting the game 2 weeks after this change goes live. Going to use ever mori, tombstone, and ultra rare addon I've got and play as brutal as possible. Hard tunneling, camping, slugging. I'm going to make the game as miserable as possible for as many people as possible, then buy Last Year, it looks like a better game anyway.

I actually ran into a bunch of these guys as well and it's very annoying, and makes the legit concerns less likely to be taken serious.
Thee guys had trolly anti ruin names, took offerings for maps they knew all the totem spawns on and would track it down and break it immediately, then with engineer toolboxes and would gen rush like mad.
If you get people like this just disconnect from the game; anytime there is a disconnect the match doesn't get used for research purposes, it disqualifies it negating their entire reason for trolling in the first place. So just do that.
There is a point to this though. If it's that easy to do in the PTB, nothing is going to change in the main game, those tactics are still going to be there. BHVR acts like all survivors have a sense of fair play, rather than being the toxic little turd containers that they are.

Not true. We're talking about players with literally thousands of hours in the game. Some main Survivor, some Killer. Hell we even had a veteran Doc main try new Doc. :)
So you bring in experienced players to test changes aimed at new survivors.... The doctor changes are so not what's causing this outrage. I like you, I feel like you're at least trying to get the community to see your side, but the actions of the dev team speak way louder than any words you can say.
It's showing an extreme bias towards survivors. Everything about this patch is all about making it more fun for survivors at the expense of your killers. You can say it's not the case all day long, that you're committed to both sides, but your actions say otherwise. Killer can still be looped for days against competent survivors, the maps are still too big for 115% killers, the nerfs are all against killers, the bug fixes are all aimed at survivor bugs, and now both doc and ruin are being nerfed for survivor enjoyment.
If you can't step back and see that, you're either blind, lying, or stupid.

And sorry, but I have a second question also.
Are you guys going to listen the community? Let's say if the majority of the players do not agree with it and express it. Or if this somehow impact in queue times? Any possibility to discard this change and try another way?
Because they knew this was going to be an extremely unpopular decision, and didn't want the mods trying to clean this mess up for two weeks. Hell no they're not going to listen to the community, they're arrogant mindset is that they're not going to lose enough killers to make a difference. They could be right, but I seriously doubt it.

Internal playtests, and playtests with select experienced players. This was posted before the PTB began (as you can see by the date in the screenshot).
I kinda feel like "select experienced players" means "randoms off the street". I've watched basically all of the twitch streamers, who are experienced as they get, and they all pretty much say the same thing. You dev's are survivor biased and have no clue how your own game works.

dude isnt 50% balance?
No, it's not and here's why. If you're getting a 50% against potatoes, it's going to be a 0K against people that actually know this game. This game needs to be balanced around a Ruthless killer against the very best in this game.
Look at say Starcraft, an actual professional game that's balanced by professional developers. They balance everything right at the top, because it's maximum potential, new players can learn to play like that. The game is fine, but the player is bad. BHVR is balancing at the bottom, which allows bad survivors to win, and great survivors to dominate.

I do get why you think like that, what they do is just frustrating and discouraging. Especially reading things like that, that they turned a fair and good player into someone who is willing to play toxic, just makes the whole situation even more sad than it already is.
I felt like that with all the Legion nerfs that happened. They actually depressed me. However, I'd suggest to sleep over it a few times, take a break from the game, maybe things will start to look different then. At least that's what helps me. I just stopped caring at all what happens ingame, and tbh this is the only way to play this game healthy, considering the own health and own experience. Playing toxic, especially if you haven't done that usually, would probably harm yourself more than others. I'm pretty sure it won't give you any satisfaction but rather bad feelings in general. It's your decision what you're gonna do, but I just want to give you that advice.
I appreciate the understanding and the thought. It's going to take them a few weeks to get this live anyway, I might cool down in that time frame, but I seriously doubt it.

I mean, none of these strategies are going to keep you in red ranks as killer lol. You will drop to a correct rank for your skill level and then learn to get better at killer from their instead of being carried by Ruin.
Is this threat of 'toxic' gameplay some sort of protest to the devs lol? Toxic gameplay is inherently ineffective at ranking up or getting emblems so I'm a bit confused what your goal is here
First off, you're not going to pip in a 5 minute match anyway. Second off, where you are in the rankings doesn't matter since matchmaking is so screwed. Third off, there is no goal, this is a watch the world burn situation and it doesn't matter if I do it to rank 1's or rank 15's, so long as I get suffering and salt. Fourth off, these tactics do work, which is why survivors hate them so much. I've already gotten multiple DC's and salt by tunneling alone.

@AngryFluffy said:

If they would care about the real issue that makes a game frustrating as survivor, they would have done something about tunneling or getting mori'd in the first two minutes of the game, because these are the only really frustrating things as survivor imo. But they didn't and instead decided to nerf a perk which already is completely luck based (totem spawn) and not that much of a use against survivors who can hit skillchecks.
I play killer in low rank ( yellow mostly) and even in these ranks ruin is not that strong because people can hit skillchecks. I really don't understand their motivation for this change. But I also don't understand if the answer of Killer-mains is this.
For me the BL nerf was a hit in the face because it is a very situational perk anyway, but I don't tbag killers because of that or play toxic, because it was not them who finally decided that.
All you do with punishing survivors is to punish innocent people who probably even are on the same side as you are.
I just wish this stupid war between "Killer mains" and "survivor mains" would stop and we would try to make this game a better experience for everyone as a community. But this seems as unlikely as world peace.
I'm a rank 6 killer, but I might as well be a rank 2, because that's all I get for survivors and ruin is necessary. The survivors are too good at looping to get kills in under 5 minutes, at this rank, seconds count.
I was doing my best to make it an enjoyable experience for both sides. Actively not tunneling, never camping, complimenting both survivor and killers, giving hatch or the exit door to the last survivor. After this slap in the face, no more. I'm quitting the game two weeks after this goes live, and it's my goal to leave a smoking crater of salt and survivor tears on my way out. My only hope is that EVERY killer does the same and BHVR gets the Raven Software treatment. Dishonored and forgotten.
Everyone said "Give them a chance to get it right, wait until after the holidays and they will get this fixed", I said that I would, but I had no faith in them, looks like I was right.

The ruin change came out of the blue and took us by surprise (at least a little). I understand the reasoning behind it, even though I think the implementation should have been different. I am, however, hoping that this is part of a bigger plan where gen speed/second objectives can be properly evaluated. This would be very hard to do with ruin being the meta it is. Now they can properly assess the game flow (as well as disparity between solo/swf)....I hope. What do you think is the long term plan?
I don't think they're going to get a chance to implement any long term plan. The outrage is everywhere. Here, reddit, steam, youtube. It's all the same, 90% of the killers hate it. Most of them are saying they're quitting, the others are saying to camp/tunnel/slug/mori. You nerf individual killers, and you piss off those who main them, but the other killers don't mind. You nerf ruin and you piss off the vast majority of killers. This one change is going to change the landscape of the entire game, and not for the better.

@Mandy said:
I'd suggest trying it out on the PTB before writing off the changes, you might be pleasantly surprised by the changes.
The parent tactic of "just try it once" isn't going to work. Anyone with more than 10 hours in this game knows that it's trash. Everyone on here also knows the devs don't give a damn what we think and are going to do it anyway.
-
@AngryFluffy said:
Good idea, tunnel the survivors that can't do anything about the Ruin change and get off your frustration on innocent people.
Yes, I do mainly play survivor. And I still think the Ruin change is unnecessary and I would fight along to prevent this from going live, but everytime I read a thread like this my motivation for that is gone entirely. Survivors are not Devs. Just for information.
Devs won't hear us on here, maybe they will listen if we make it an absolutely miserable experience for their precious little survivors. It's the Lucifer strategy, I'll admit, but screw it, the traditional ways aren't working.
-
I would say you're absolutely right if it wasn't a hex perk. The fact that it's a hex means it will never be useful, over 50% of the time, it's going to be destroyed in the first 2 minutes of the game. Old ruin was the same, but you got real value out of it in those 2 minutes, providing a survivor didn't spawn on top of it.
I'll tell you how this is going to go. Game starts, 3 survivors jump on a gen, killer finds them when gen is 75% done. They scramble, killer follows one, the other two see the gen regressing. One jumps on the gen, the other goes looking for the ruin, if SWF, the other survivor that has a gen at 40% also knows, plus they know where it is or isn't based on where he's been looping the killer. If not SWF, the 4th random doesn't know.
First gen pops, killer downs and hooks the first survivor. Killer heads towards a gen, ruin is found and popped, guy is rescued off hook and healed. 2nd gen pops. The two healing go to the next gen, killer finds the 4th and chases. By the time he downs the 4th, 3rd gen has popped. Then they fall like dominoes after that. Killer gets 1-2K and brutal, 2-3 survivors escape and get a pip.
That's a normal game. 4 man SWF with brand new parts, game is over in 4 minutes, all 4 escape, killer depips.

https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/981/RKX0IBX7CF92.jpg
While I can agree the developers aren't perfect, you can't assume they want $$$ just because they decide to nerf killers. As Mandy said, the developers do a lot for both sides, it's not a "Developers like survivors", "Developers like killers", or "Developers like money" type a situation at all. It's more of, "The developers are thinking about the players" type of situation when they changed Ruin because let's be honest, who would want to face a P3 Killer with the best perks as a new player? Even as a console player where FPS is terrible, you couldn't hit greats even if you wanted to, which lead to Ruin being twice as strong on console.
I know, it sounds like I'm rambling on about how much I support the developers choice in nerfing Ruin, but I'll give a conspiracy theory:
- Previous Roadmap: New Mechanic โ The End Game Collapse.
- Current Roadmap: New Mechanic โ Second Objective?
I don't think the developers would make such a choice without planning to solve the consequences, especially when 80% uses Ruin (that obviously shows a problem). ๐๐ค
Ruin by itself is now useless, it will require Thrilling Tremors or Surveillance , both of which are only available on licensed killers. Then of course, you want survivors to be happy, because of a 4:1 ratio of people buying cosmetics. All about the money.
-
Absolutely survivor biased.

100%! You could tell from the last livestream that they couldn't figure out the issue with matchmaking, so now we get this. There is literally no reason for the change other than that.
It's because they're losing killers, and it's too easy for survivor to pip. I'm sure the ruin/doctor nerfs are going to solve everything.

Hi!
Just wanted to address one common concern I've seen from the community. "They nerfed Ruin so it wouldn't be hard for new Survivors."
That's not quite what the intention was. This is subtle, but bear with me.
New Ruin is in fact really brutal for new Survivors... because it is insidious. They have no idea what's happening, and they struggle to get gens done at all. That little zap effect when you take your hands off a gen? Barely noticable to a new player who's panicing because of the L3 Terror Radius they are hearing. It's not even noticable that the gen is regressing twice as fast as if the Killer had damaged it.
What we wanted to do was not "make it easy for new players" but "make it less frustrating for new players". In playtests with newer Survivor players, it was 4k with 4 or 5 gens up almost every time. But they didn't hate their time in the game as much because those red skill checks weren't in their faces.
I'm looking forward to playing on the PTB with some of you tomorrow; see you in the Fog!
And where is your concern for killers, new and experienced, that are flat out getting bullied by toxic SWF thanks to your team's bad map design and broken perks/add ons? How exactly are we supposed to deal with a genrush that can be done in under 5 minutes by three people? You think that's not the most frustrating thing in the game?
You just gave those types of players the biggest weapon possible. But by god, at least it's not frustrating for new survivors.

I would say the last bastion of BS that survivors hold now is the keys. But killers still have a wealth of overpowered items and characters to call upon.
And the keys are honestly not even that overpowered for solo Q, only for SWF on comms, which is overpowered to begin with. I don't mind keys in solo Q because it is very hard to communicate you even have one; or have found the hatch.
I had a 4K merciless turn into a 1K brutal last night due to a key. Had everyone on death hook, 1 gen left, then suddenly match over. I was irritated.
