Can't say ive ever used the meta myself, im experimenting with weird builds every other round, or i keep every survivor with just their 3 perks and 1 other that works well with them. For example rebeccas 3 perks + stakeout, dwights 3 perks + bottony knowledge, aestrie's 3 perks + prove thyself etc. Makes each survivor feel like a unique character just like the killers.

I’ve been running Dwight’s perks + overcome. Or light footed- , light weight , lucky break and bond. I’ve been playing with @THE_Crazy_Hyena who runs wiretap, calm spirit and blast mine. & @For_The_People who runs plot twist, exponential, and for the people lol. We’ve been getting a lot of killers running endgame or hex builds. Weird builds are so much more fun.

Yeah, I have seen too many "doing gens, u?" in my games lately. Pretty sure @HeroLives can attest to that fact, since we have been playing a lot of duos.
And it usually ends up with me running the killer around until I eventually exhaust all corners of the map.

This post is trying to gather answers to: What counts as "extreme slugging situations", for the upcoming anti-slug?

Do you two have opinions on what should count as extreme slugging?

3+ slugs same time and repeated slugs no hooks if I had to draw a line.

  • @LordGlint said:

Generally I like to look at it as "can this be countered". If the answer is no, its probably not a good thing to keep around. You can heal slugged teammates and return them to full health. Killers COULDN'T do the same to hooks. Also unlike the slugging which involves getting into chases with each person and outplaying them to down them, breaking the hooks involved no interaction with other ppl at all.

I just don’t think it’s that black and white when it comes to balancing because if the answer is join a 4man to be able or you have to run these perks and it might work still depends on teammates, to get any real interaction otherwise it’s just landslides then it’s probably a bad philosophy given that there are players who have no interest in doing that. Again it’s not always as easy as heal your teammate and get them up. I can do that until we’re all bleed out from being repeatedly slugged since everyone isn’t on comms coming up with a game plan collectively to be able to compete. Which is my entire point, because the game is centered around balancing high mmr 4 mans. This creates a gap between the two, mmr is shot for a variety of reasons.

That’s not true, you had to build for it, you had to be on comms, and then you had to break the hooks and get in there before they could hooks the person and get out of there without causing a snowball. If you wanted to go totally brain dead though with little to no risk have just one guy run the killer while everyone breaks hooks. Depends on which way you did it. It was super engaging and interactive for survivors, probably not for killer. Sabotaging similar to slugging made sense in certain situations and required skill and risk, and then there was taking the least engaging route and farming the killer, and they just had to play along, unless survivors were playing the risky way which left room for counters. It still got reigned in all the same same though because of certain ways it could be used to put killers in unwinnable situations.

Survivor has a similar issue where even though there is a counter its join a 4 man or everyone should be running these perks, I’m sure these knocking it out of the park situations for killer feels very interactive for survivors not on 4mans not bringing slug perks.

Distortion got nerfed because killers couldn’t swap 1 single perk to a different notification alert, and there was a plethora of counters to it. Doesn’t mean it didn’t need to be changed for other reasons.

Anyways bridging the gap and balancing around that and still pushing up lower tier killers to be more competitive is probably the best route since they have face these 4stacks too. Otherwise you’re alienating an entire portion of the player base all for the pursuit of balancing killers around 4swf even though not every lobby is 4swf and trying to pretend there’s not huge differences in performance vs 4swf and mixed lobbies, while simultaneously undermining it as “git gud” moments. When comms gives real time feedback that adds up for counterplay.

What do you think? Since we feel differently im interested in you expressing your perspective on this and this take.

Permanently deleting every hook on the map isn't exactly something that can be countered. It also didnt even need toolboxes, so you wouldn't have a clue what's about to happen until you hear bunch of random explosions.

The 2nd part was just painful for everyone involved. They essentially just sped that up by removing the gen requirement. Realistically, if you were the last survivor... you weren't gonna be able to solo a gen without getting found. This just led to hostage situations more times than not.

Yeah I agree. It was still a “strategy” though. You’re right it didn’t need toolboxes but they sure did help be able to do that and gens. Get with 3 friends you know are good and you could escape full team no hooks against most killers. Similar to now how you 4k multiple hooks with 5 gens up depending on how hard you want to go in as killer. That’s crazy. I’m sure all those killers were bad though and we were just that good back then. Obviously.

Realistically as survivor I was doing that back then against everyone from myers to nurse, often. It wasn’t as hard to do as people make it out to be. Stealth was legitimately that busted if you understood how to use it effectively. I would solo gens and the killer all by myself.

Just curious… what "perfectly good strategy" of survivors made playing killer feel bad?

off the top of my head here’s 2 but there’s more

Bringing 4 toolboxes going full sabo and deleting most of the hooks on the maps. Couldn’t feasibly get any hooks.

Stealth also used to be so goated if your teammates all died you could evade the killer the rest of the match and slowly painfully slowly do any remaining gens to get out to get hatch to spawn. They would just wander around looking for your while you clock worked the gens.

I remember seeing threads upon threads about these things and how much it sucked.

  • probably trapper.

Starts with all traps, then give all those addons effects instead like deep wound, oblivious , ect.

It’s not much but would go a long way. Still pretty noob friendly, doesn’t change much about facing him.

    His kit is very dated.

  • do what’s fun and enjoy it while you can. Life’s short, it’s a video game, it will maybe get balanced eventually. Most things do if it’s unbalanced enough on a grand scale or receives enough complaints.

  • soo many probably somewhere between 2000-2500 collectively across a bunch of killers and a few survivors. If they separated Kobe's from the hook timer and tied it to luck rarity offerings and perks, that would be fine. It would not be fine if they simply made them free without a cost.

I think this would probably be the best way to go about it, if it’s on their mind.

  • like others have said swf is fine soloQ/mixed lobbies it can be a nightmare, because there’s a lot in his kit that requires a lot of observation and standing around for prepping, or even resetting which is a tall task not on comms but manageable with swf because of the constant feedback loop. High level singus anyways.

He’s probably fine since he’s not a super popular pick. Should probably naturally get more 3+ swf lobbies to even the playing field, buff if needed in that case.

No, that's ping ponging. Popping back and forth between survivors getting off hook is ping pong tunneling.

Here's an example of a "snowball":

I am losing a match. I only have a couple of hooks, and only have two gens left. Three survivors are injured. I down one of them. Another injured survivor, emboldened by their seemingly unassailable lead, comes in for a flashlight save, but gets downed instead. I now have one survivor on hook, and one slugged.

One of the remaining survivors is injured, the other is healthy. The healthy survivor comes in for the save, but I guess where he's coming from, and he gets downed in a trade. Instead of chasing the survivor who just got off hook, I go back to my original slug (flashlight guy), and catch him getting picked up by the last injured teammate. They both end up downed.

The last remaining guy, my original hook, gets someone up but gets downed in the process. I chase this new final survivor, down them, and win the game. The survivors abandon, I hook the bots, then get hate mail in the EGC.

That's a snowball. A series of events that turns a small thing (downing a survivor in chase) into a big thing (all four survivors downed.) Kind of like a cartoon snowball rolling down a hill, getting bigger as it goes along. Hence the name. A series of mistakes by the survivors and a couple of good reads on my part won me the game.

It's also why people say that Trapper is a snowball killer. Because a game can go from just having one person on hook to a desperate situation very quickly if one or two survivors step in traps at the worst possible time. (Which is why his purple stone is also his best addon. It adds lethality to his power.) Trapper is NOT a killer that ping pongs well. He lacks the mobility and chase lethality to ping pong between survivors and keep heavy pressure.

The idea that survivors should just get zero punishment for making so many mistakes in a row, and that I should get no reward for playing well in crunch time is insulting. It should be insulting to survivors. At this point, just start the match with all of the gens 99'd.

I’m not going to go back and forth with you over semantics. Especially when you’re including examples of snowballing, but I would not classify effectively ending the game via slugging full stop as snowballing.Tbh not hooking anyone and repeatedly slugging until you get all 4 down is probably something I would classify as excessive slugging. We can agree to disagree.

Nobody is saying that survivors should get zero punishment for mistakes. Sometimes things need to be reigned in for overall health and balancing of the game, bridging gaps, and bringing playstyles more in line. I’ve had plenty of things I like nerfed to some degree over the years for the overall health or balancing of the game either because it was used as “griefing”(even though in most cases it guaranteed wins and was used as “strategy”) or in specific scenarios it was too strong. That’s just DbD, and always has been. If it’s okay to iron out all the “perfectly good strategies” for survivor because it makes killers “feel bad” “or is too strong in the right hands”, why does that not apply to killer and how survivors feel going against some things because it feels like overkill, it feels busted, mismatched, and is also used for griefing putting people not in 4 stacks in what feels like a helpless situation where there is no winning and even worse it’s boring and not fun.

Honestly if you’re that good, maybe you shouldn’t get lobbies but against anything but 4stacks. Some of these strats requires comms to overcome or even be balanced in the slightest.

Because the way I look at it is(and I’ve played everything from solo to sweating swf, and played killer off and on over the years)either they separate entirely people who play this way from mixed lobbies, or throw a bone to help even the playing field and balance around it.

Not only is it unbalanced against almost anyone but 4stacks, it’s just not fun for people who aren’t in a 4stack because you’re on the ground relying on your teammates to hive mind.

If you want people to understand killer concerns and be empathetic maybe you should try giving that back, because the issue here with slugging and tunneling is the disparity between being on 4man comms and not being on comms in a mixed lobby.

They have a constant feedback loop, mixed lobbies don’t. If they keep buffing killer issues without addressing mixed lobby issues the gap just grows bigger. That doesn’t even account for skill difference when playing with friends, or just mmr doing its best with what it has to work with.

Yeah sometimes not picking up teammates is the case, but it’s not always the case. Things are nuanced, and sometimes it’s about the bigger picture.

Yep, I am pretty sure that will happen.

Some players will lobby dodge the moment they see a perk they don't approve of. It is unfortunate, but it will happen.

Then killers are going to dodge because they don’t want to face that when they start pulling profiles and see everyone is a sweat lord. Until they find the derpy lobby nobody dodged in with hours all over the place. Then we’ll see mmr is flawed, lobby dodging posts, why does every team feel like I’m going against swf, Survivors at each others throats over perks.

  • @GeneralV said:

Honestly, I believe this will be similar to the prestige thing where people could see each other's prestige levels in the lobby.

Players will see the builds, dodge if they don't like them, and it will reach a point where the feature will be removed.

Feels like Opposite Day, but instead of killers cherry picking because items, prestiges, or ranks, it’s survivors carting lobbies over perks. I already know. It’s a great idea in theory but we’re all about to spend a significant amount of time in lobby. In a perfect world we can have this as just useful information. I see it causing more problems in the end though over preconceived notions than actually its intended use. So much dodging all around is about to happen.

Do… do you not know what snowballing is?

It's when you clutch a game that you were otherwise going to lose by slugging all four survivors at the same time. It's a last ditch attempt to saving a game when gens have been flying all match, but they left themselves injured and out of position.

There's no such thing as a "kind of" snowball. You either get the snowball and win the game, or you don't, they reset, and you lose.

If you take away the ability to snowball, the killer might as well just walk themselves into a corner and surf their phone if they ever have a bad chase or make a bad read. It'll be impossible to come back, so there's really no point in trying. Finish your gens and leave.

That’s not snowballing. That’s just mass slugging or would fall under “slugging for the 4k”

Snowballing is having multiple survivors hooked at the same time to the point that you can bounce between hooks and keep the hooks flowing, but you’re leaving at least 1 person up to get saves so you can get more hooks. Slugging 2-3 survivors can lead to snowballing but is not snowballing. There’s lots of ways to start a snowball though without even slugging. That’s not a requirement to snowball or be classified as snowballing.

Oh I'd wager a bet that after this change comes live, they'll remove sabotaging from toolboxes entirely, then take Saboteur out back and shoot it dead or completely rework it at least. There will be no need to deny hooks this way if the Killer is forced to hook anyway or they're punished, after all.

I hope whatever they’re cooking sabo is dealt with in equal measure in foresight, because I can absolutely see a QoL turning into a weaponized advantage for 4stacks where they’re trying to force it.

  • @I_Cant_Loop said:

I completely agree and I do the same thing if I get slugged. I’m just saying that people shouldn’t complain about being slugged if they’re also going to intentionally make it more difficult for the killer to find and hook them.

Why would they intentionally wait there for you if not to just die and get it over with? If you leave them down long enough to scoot away that’s on you imo. That’s your risk for not committing to hook someone, and taking an extra chase for an additional down.

I’m not going to pretend like it’s riveting gameplay though being a slug without perks and not intentionally feeding the killer is slinking away and hoping someone picks you up if they can. Does it always pan out? No, but it beats just patiently waiting there on the ground while the killer gets back to you on their time so you can add to that pressure.

During the 4 minute bleed out I can make a microwave meal and come back while actively playing a PvP game. Think about it. I can do a real life side quest while playing a player versus player game where there’s no pause button in the match. People might not like to hear that, but it is what it is.

  • @I_Cant_Loop said:

This seems like such an insanely impossible (and stupid) thing to define. I’ve had so many times where I’ve downed a survivor, noticed somebody nearby, chased them and decided to keep on going with the chase because I felt like it was the best way to apply the most slowdown pressure on the team. Once I finally down and hook the 2nd survivor, I go back to where I down the first survivor and they’re nowhere to be found because they crawled away the whole time I was chasing the other guy. The other two survivors for whatever reason decided not to pick them up, so am I going to get punished now for this “extreme slugging” situation? If you don’t want to be slugged forever, don’t crawl away so I can’t find you when I get back.

I know we shouldn’t draw conclusions without knowing exactly what this is going to be yet, but based on how big of a disaster the anti-go-next and anti-AFK systems have been, I’m fully expecting something insanely broken with the anti-slugging system as well. If there’s any lesson to learn, it’s to test and get feedback from actual players before implementing, but that often doesn’t happen.

I’m going to crawl away if you down me and chase someone else, why would I stay where you left me if I know you’re trying to snowball and put the team in a near if not impossible position to recover from? The killer gets so much pressure from having two people hooked at the same time, it’s almost impossible to fumble as killer at that point.

Why would anyone stay there? It’s better to crawl away and recover. It’s almost always the best option unless you got being a slug perks for that exact situation.

  • @Coffeecrashing said:

What counts as "extreme slugging situations", for the upcoming anti-slug?

If the killer is forced to slug a survivor for an extended period of time, because the only hook within range is currently broken by the Breakdown perk, would that count as an "extreme slugging situation"?

If the killer has multiple survivors slugged, but literally can't hook any of them, would that count as an "extreme slugging situation"?

I would not be surprised if sabo/background player caught a nerf in extension to this, It wouldn’t surprise me at all. If I were the team I would absolutely keep an eye on that, if not account for it in the beginning. Helping out solo and removing unnecessary excessive slugging is very good, but buffing sabo probably not, so I would watch that.

  • congratulations to the myers mains, very happy for you ❤️

  • the reward is more suffering when you hit ready again, because survivors repeat trials, because death is not an escape.

  • I would like to put in a survivor request to reallocate some of the excessive pallets in the game and have them moved to cold wind, haddonfield, or the top area of borgo in that one spawn, you know the one.

  • @Rudjohns said:

Why we should care if someone DC? They are already getting the penalty, and bots are replacing them. Don't people say bots are better than solo queue teammates?

If someone leaves and leaves a bot irdc. I can ask the devs to tweak bots if they’re too weak or strong. It’s AI after all and follows commands. There’s not a lot you can do about someone leaving an empty space though.

I just see people dc still when there’s like 10 seconds left of their life and they are absolutely eating a penalty because there’s still multiple people up(meaning it’s not abandon). Which is just perplexing, to me personally. I don’t have a problem with it because it’s not affecting gameplay at that point, I just find it to be an interesting choice, especially considering that’s what I’m mostly seeing now.

  • I , personally, don’t see as many as I used to, but the ones I still see the most are people close to endgame where their final hook they quit. Other than that, I say it’s getting better and people are sticking around and trying more.

It is interesting to see others say they’re seeing an increase, while I’m experiencing the opposite.
