Genuine question. If all the MMR tracks is how many survivors you KILLED and nothing else, it measures absolutely nothing else that the Killer might be doing in game...
Why should Killers kill Survivors? Why go through all of that to potentially get more stressful matches?
I'm someone who is a big advocate for fun and having MMR in this game, but not like this. When I saw MMR I thought I could finally play casual games without meta perks. But that ended up not being true.
Because the system doesn't function the way it should
The old pipping system was better than this, god.
There's nothing stopping killers from giving out free escapes, they can do whatever they want. The thing is, if im not killing in a game where I play the killer then there's no point for me to play the game at all.

Did you mean 3 other survivors have to do 5 Gen, 5 totem while Killer tunnel & camping 1 guy with Noed?
Sure you can do 5 totems to stop it from happening but you dont have to, you only need to do one totem when its active.
There's 2 ways to go about it and its not like totems are usually hard to find.

and making survivors want to play less and less i guess?
Survivors will play regardless because they're the less stressful role.
Either you want the same few killers match after match or you buff weaker killers so they can compete and have variety.
-
@hiken said:
literally the less and less i want to play this game, 0 variety. you can stand a nurse or 2 same with spirit per day but if thats the only thing you get you start to get really annoyed with this game, and stop playing. it doesnt matter if u lose or win, is still the same.
hopefully something can be done like LOL banning certain killers or something so at least you can get variety i wouldnt mind waiting 10 minutes for a decent game instead of going against 2 spirits in a row or 3. really.
Well how about we make other killers more viable so they can do well in higher mmr matches.
The only reason you see those specific killers again and again is because they can compete against competent survivors.

You completely missed the point. Read the post again.
Nope, I saw the point about getting extra kills and that boosting your mmr. I disagree with that line of thinking in preforming worse so you get less skilled survivors. If that's what you wanted to discuss you would have made sure that was apparent in the title instead of a blanket statement that noed is bad.
-
@Bumbus said:
Just think about it. MMR is balancing your games so you get 50% killrate. Whatever you bring in your games, whatever perks you use, this will be true. So, if you are struggling in your games and don't get any kills - you will get lower MMR and more chill games. However, if you are struggling in your games, but cheese some kills in the end through your perk - your MMR won't get lower. The matchmaking thinks you just had an easy victory, and gives you even more skilled opponents in your next game. And then you have to cheese your kills again. It is a self-sustaining cycle.
Just a thought I wanted to share. I just realized this and dropped NOED from all my builds.
NOED is fine for killers. Its that survivors refuse to deal with it before/after it activates which leads anyone to say that it's bad for killers. Survivors can have multiple second chances during the game, but if a killer has one more chance only during the end game it becomes a problem. Lets not even look at the fact that the killer plays a majority of the trial with only 3 perks.
-
@latinfla4 said:
I know it is usually the other way around.
I am genuinely curious if some has had enough of playing survivor and said "I am done now I am going to play killer".
Thoughts and/or stories?
Im just another one of those cases in which its reversed. I never thought I would prefer survivor over killer because I see dumb teammates all the time as killer and would never want to put myself through that. Survivor used to be something I would do so that me and the gf could play together and laugh about our situations in trials. Its come to a point where I see no reason to stress about playing killer(babysitter) in high mmr lobbies, honestly mmr has killed any chance of coming into the game as killer and playing casually. I understand having close matches can be good every now and then but constantly having to play my butt off just to get a tie or lose feels kinda bad and no longer worth it.

And people have the absolute gall to say the devs are survivor sided, when they’ve been obsessed with spirit for years. Half the anniversary quotes were about her and it took teeth being pulled to get her reworked.
Not even comparable, Undying meant you had to cleanse more totems sure but it didn't change the game for basic m1 killers like MoM did. Making it so killers without instant down attacks had to hit survivors 3 times to down instead of 2 really extended chases to the point where it just wasn't fair to the killer.
-
@Dwigtht said:
So, you are survivor-friends already, most likely on comms with good items. This already puts killer at a disadvantage.
But why would you also request maps like Haddonfield, RPD or Midwitch? Just to ensure your total domination?
I don't know what other killers do, but I am personally trying to tunnel the first survivor I down when I see Haddonfield offering. Is this the playstyle you want to experience?
Funny that those SWFs are not bad loopers, so they could do just fine with random map; maybe they want to be camped, I don't know. Or maybe they are good loopers only on Haddonfield?
There's nothing to understand about it, they just want to win. Survivors have much more power than some people like to think, its just that most dont use/know what they have available.
-
@tester said:
Too many complains recently. Do devs need to put this as hint in game?
Easy solution: don't tryhard.
Don't camp, don't tunnel, remove slowdown perks, go for 12 hooks... And you can have more fun games!
"But I tryhard because they tryhard" I hear you say. No! It's under your control to get out of chicken and egg situation.
"But I want to win" I hear you say. Forget it, with SBMM you are supposed to* get same win rate no matter what you do.
Disclaimer: "supposed to" might be registered trademark of BHVR.
No, the solution isnt to stop trying. The solution is to be humble, take what you can get, and give the other side nothing for free. Even if the odds are against you dont give up, things can change at a moments notice.
-
Haddonfield has stayed the same way it is so i dont see why not. I groan everytime because of the fences.
-
@Kr8_Kutz said:
u gotta camp and tunnel , get a new strategy. Last 3 day yall camp and tunnel . Get better Be better
Camping = securing kills/hook states
Tunneling = completing the objective faster
Wouldn't do either if I had more time to play without being forced to rush since time isnt on my side as a killer.
Nobody asks or expects you to stop doing gens so why should killers stop killing?
When you 99 all 7 gens then ill stop camping and tunneling, since ill have plenty of time to play the game regularly.
-
@IlliterateGenocide said:
Well atleast from a company stand point. Nobody is gonna buy a survivor by themselves unless the perks are good. Balance wise I think as long as the meta shifts I'll be fine with them. Atleast for now.
Boon totems don't have to be powerful, they just have to be useful. Every killer hex totem is an investment that doesn't have to pay off since they can be destroyed at any point. Survivor boon totems can't every be fully destroyed by the killer, instead of only applying to dulls you can overwrite hexes, the effect range is pretty big, they can stack, and they can be repositioned. If a killer had anything similar to that then survivors would be up and arms at it being nerfed. Hex perks already release with conditions to make sure they cant be overwhelming and yet boons are nothing but a buff, not even to just one survivor but the whole team.
-
I just find it funny how if this was a killer perk it'd be loaded with cooldowns and restrictions but since its survivor sided they can do it whenever they want.
-
@Mileena_Kahn said:
Now it seems killers have to “DO BONES” as well with this new survivor update lol.
Except survivors will still refuse to do bones so...
-
Well to be fair the key changes are something that should have been handled a long time ago. Its pretty understandable that this new perk that gives you even more item value is a bit too much given that smart survivors/swf can make it seem way better than what it is. The thing is if killers got perks that are the equivalent to these new ones survivors would have a fit.
-
@fogdonkey said:

Yeah I'm gonna say no that you don't need to try everything and somethings can just be op. Anybody that remembers old Mettle of Man can tell you that because that perk was busted without even needing to try it, who even knows how that made it into the game in its original state. People are valid to criticize things early if they seem too strong.
-
Monstrous Shine because there's no reason for it to stay the way it is any longer.
-
I will never understand, if people dont like to be camped they need to either not be found first or learn to run the killer better.
Why is there so much hate for the killer doing what they're supposed to do which is killing survivors?
Survivors wont leave a gen 99'd and start another one, they'll finish the gen and move on with their objective. A killer camping to secure the kill or next hook state is them just defending their objective, while gens are important to defend a hooked survivor has more priority since a 3v1 is easier than a 4v1.
The killer has no reason to ensure survivors get to play the game, that's entirely on the survivors.
-
Its also funny to say that killers are ruining the game but if a survivor doesn't want to play anymore they can intentionally get caught and kill themselves on hook and screw every other person wanting a normal game.
-

Like I haven’t played a killer match in ages where every survivor didn’t relentlessly attempt to bully me, flashlight click, tea bag whenever they do anything, finish gens in my face, follow me everywhere I go to force a tunnel, and just sit at exit gate til EGC happens. Like I haven’t had a non toxic match in probably months. I’d say since March.
Because people claim that survivors cant do anything toxic and its just them playing the game.
-
Killers are ruining the game? Well how about we get rid of them and now...oh wait the game needs killers.
Survivors dont like it when killers dont play the game but they also dont like it when killers do play the game.
If efficient survivors didn't make games end in ~5mins then killers would probably try more. If those survivors didnt demand that everyone escapes if the killer had a bad game with 1-2 hooks because they cant fight against fast gens then it'd encourage the killer to try harder next game.
-
It doesn't work now but it will in the future. In regard to ghost face's power it wont since his marking is what makes you exposed and you cant decrease his mark time.
-
This is what I consistently wonder all the time. I get that making the game look nice has its merits but being able to sacrifice graphic quality for a smoother in game experience is far far the better choice.
-
@C3Tooth said:
The game 'may' be balanced, but player's skill & mindset arent. A bad player with 4 second chance perhaps have equal chance vs a good player with meme build. But if you look at a newbie player without any second chance vs a Zubat level of 4men swf 16 second chance. The gaps is undeniable huge.
Like if the OP wanted to say that the game is balanced better than it was before that'd be fine to say. But like others have said there are too many factors out of a players control at times to claim the game is balanced.

I believe if you break chains via the environment then it causes more chains to spawn.
To counter P-Head, dodging the possessed chain is crucial and then just making distance since he's stuck in place when using his power. If chain hunt is active then you just need to find and do the box.
-
Idk with many of balance updates I start to wonder if im even a killer. Many times it feels like im a babysitter when my methods to kill survivors is taken away or restricted in favor of giving survivors more chances. More chances for bad survivors is ok but more chances for good survivors is agonizing to deal with.

On killer I feel I need at least one gen regression perk regardless of the build.
As survivor I feel I need to use an exhaustion perk regardless of the build
On survivor i run whatever because I've seen people run no perks and be just fine by playing smart.
On killer i hate that i have to run slow down just to have some semblance of a normal game.

@Apollos said:
I don't think keys need any rework. What else can you do? They already have a poor spawn rate, have counterplay and get filtered out of the match fairly quickly if they're seen, and require a charge to even use. They don't even come into play until at least 4 gens are completed and one survivor is dead.
Well change hatch mechanics if you cant change keys. Just make it so hatch doesn't spawn until there's only 1 survivor left. Nothing promotes survivors to stop playing the game more than when there's only 2 of them left and they both play for hatch.

When I woke up at 5am and couldn't fall asleep I thought about those 3 perks and I was like "wow if they would be a base-kit, my soloq life would be a little bit easier."
So here is my question: This game has 5 years and bhvr still didn't do anything about kindred, bond and totem counter being a basekit. Why?
They arent base kit because they dont need to be, you can just equip the perks if you want their benefits. I'm thoroughly against the idea of survivors being given perks for free. Its already 16 survivor perks vs the killers 4, why does the survivor team need to be even stronger?
-
@EntitySpawn said:
I mean hitting them is satisfying, just a shame they arent more useful. If the remove the environment insta breaks and you breaking them then he would be really good (I'm console too)
That's the biggest thing, the fact that they spawn in the way during chase where I cant help but walk into them makes no sense. Its like if the hag started setting off her own traps, makes no sense. Either that or apply a small lasting hindered effect after they're unchained so they remain a little slow would be nice.
-
It doesnt help that pinhead himself breaks his own chains that spawn in the way of the survivor he caught/is chasing.
-
I get that it's too early to tell how good or bad he is but if it comes to a point where I'm better off playing him as a regular m1 killer vs using his power then there's a problem. If i could use a killer like clown or freddy that functionally still slows down survivors in easier ways then why should I use pinhead.

Reminds me of constantly seeing Freddie before the nerf!
He's one of the 3 original killers, power is easy to understand, and not being able to be seen is a plus for some people. Is wraith using his strong addons different from any other killer using their strong addons?

Ok, but I mean you're literally and factually wrong though. The game LITERALLY tells you that as a killer your goal is to KILL the survivors. It says this both in the actual in game killer tutorial and on their website! So I mean no, our objective isn't to "torture" the survivors, it's to kill them. What you're drawing off of is what happens in the lore of the game, which doesn't translate to the gameplay objectives.

The game very clearly states and implies that the job of the Killer is to torture the survivors slowly and after they've been drained of all their hope then they deliver the killing blow. Like I said in the post that people obviously misunderstood, I don't care what you or anyone does in this game but stop oversimplifying the objective of the game. Yes, you need to kill the survivors but that's not the only objective.
The game clearly states that killing is the objective, on the website and in game. Going by your logic though its perfectly fine if survivors don't do gens and only hide and wait for the hatch since their objective is to escape, not to do gens, since you technically don't need to do gens to escape.

Literally just look up Myers add-ons and you'll get your answer. People are referring to scratched mirror myers, where he can't advance past tier 1 but in exchange gets to see survivor auras when using their stalk power.
-
The objective is to kill survivors. You can try and argue that getting the most blood points or pipping to rank up are the goals but those are just side objectives. If im not playing for blood points cause i don't need them or i dont care about an emblem system, that'll mean nothing in a few months aside from more blood points, then what else am i supposed to play for?

Yeah he does, that's a part of his skill at being a killer in the game. I'm not saying he shouldn't lose, everybody can, its just that in some situations you can't claim "lack of skill or lack of trying" is what loses you games. The comment i replied to is op claiming that you can 9-12 hook survivors if you just "trust in your skill and hone them" even though you don't always have time to 9-12 hook survivors.

possible. cause as said, tactically it's a major disadvantage. especially if the keyholder is decent at chases.
edit:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2416144#Comment_2416144
and here they are even admitting it.
Y'know, if you'd trust in your skill and hone them you can very well get your 9-12 hooks in without any bms against good players.
To the part about trusting in skill, there are games where even otz gets rolled because he just doesnt have time to 3 hook everyone despite him playing perfectly. So i dont think telling people its a skill issue is the way to go, cause otz is pretty skilled at the game.
-
@MeltingPenguins said:
This is a genuine question, cause I see people say on a regular base they'll automatically tunnel someone with a key out of the game.
And i'm sitting here wondering -why-
cause, people, you are giving the survivors an advantage:
- If they are a swf, not only have you now given them a place to store the key, you also gave them the means to navigate the other players of the swf to the key and the hatch once it spawns. which now is a gen earlier.
- even if they are not a swf you have now given them the hatch a gen early as well as a definite place to pick up the key.
It'd be better, tactically, to play without any tunneling and corral the survivors away from the hatch.
If the survivor with the key wants to end the match earlier than expected I'll do that by killing them earlier than expected.
-
Bloodlust, no matter the tier, should not be removed for any reason. Realistically a killer should never get to blood lust 3 for it to be a problem for survivors. Chases have to end, no survivor should be able to run the killer for extended periods of time so bloodlust ensures chases end at some point. If anyone thinks wasting 45 seconds to get a hit is something to be removed then I truly don't know what to tell them.

After 2 months of only playing killer, I decided to give solo q a try again. Ofc, I am rank 20 because of reseting.
Here are my matches:
First game my teammates hide in corners while I have kindred and they can clearly see someone is being chased on the other side of the map.
Second game same story.
Third game I have a 3 man swf with no mither, bodyblocking me, sand bagging me, m1 spamming me on hook, wasting their flashlights on my face while I was on hook and then make fun of me in eg chat.
Fourth game a David with No Mither gets tunneled out while we had an afk Dwight and a crouchig Ace.
Fifth game I do 4 gens while my team gets tunneled by a GF while swarming him. And I mean tunneling, because at some point I intentionally positioned myself (while injured) so I trade hooks, but he insisted to ignore my body blocking just to go for the unhooked guy.
Sixth game I played Deathslinger and got a 3k.
Now my question is: How can I play survivor if I'm rank 20, can't rank up because I never have ANYONE repairing anything and killers camping and tunneling while my team mates feed, and I don't have friends to swf with?
Shows that survivors are the real killers.
-
If the killer wants you dead then you're just going to die, accept that you cant survive every trial and move on. The only way to prevent this is to be better than the killer or have reliable teammates. DEATH IS ALWAYS AN OPTION UNTIL YOU ARE ON THE TALLY SCREEN.
