chucky with a stealth build works, but you have to play a hit and run style. Pop out from behind walls then run to cover again before striking from the other side.Chucky seems to be a consensus for another hamster-esque killer, didn't realize so many killers could be hamstermaxxed!

@Marc_go_solo said:
So, I would say that Hamstermaxxing should be achieved by using a Demogorgon or Xenomorph, since hamsters make their own burrows, or repurpose existing burrows of other animals. I'd probably say the Xenomorph fits better, because Hamsters spend most of their time in burrows, so too a Xenomorph could spend more time in the tunnels, listening out for Survivors before pouncing.
They are solitary animals, and will fight fiercely with any other hamster to the death often. Therefore, any perk or add-on that reduces attack or power cooldowns is a must.
Hamsters also carry their food great distances, so I would have to say Iron Grip and Agitation would need to be a part of the build.
These little guys also like to feel comfortable in enclosed conditions. Therefore, consider perks that restrict where players can go such as Hex:Crowd Control or Cruel Limits to encourage that warm, cozy feeling.
Finally, bring an Ebony Mori every time. A dark fact about Hamsters is that they are known to sometimes to resort to cannibalism, especially when it comes to their young. Therefore, the munchies are important.
So, there are some ideas for hamstermaxxing to consider. They may be cute, but do not forget they are still capable and - as with all animals - have their dark sides.
This is an amazing hamstermaxxing guide, I will definitely listen be trying later! Thank you very much hamstermaxxing master

I'm really confident in saying that even if every single nerf they have planned makes it to Live ppl will continue to "give up" against her. The hate ppl have for SM runs so deep that even when she is the worst killer in the game they still give up against her just so they don't have to play the game against her.
Exactly. Ik Im a broken record but every time I've argued in favor of her I get people telling me that "SHE NEEDS TO GO! NO KILLER SHOULD BE ABLE TO 3 GEN AND HOLD THE MATCH HOSTAGE!" And its so annoying because it shows they have literally no idea what they're even talking about

Listen, as much as I have been defending skull merchant, you must admit her problem is somewhat problematic. Her changes are way to overboard, but I still think her power was still a bit much.
A bit much? How? She did nothing that other killers didn't do better and to be effective you needed to work overtime which wouldn't even work all the time like some killers who require the same level of multi tasking.

Yeah there are a lot of issues, but for many people SM is merely 'the straw that breaks the camel's back'. There are a lot of flaws with the game, but since they are independent enough they can largely be ignored when you don't reach that critical breaking point.
I think 2v8 is solely responsible for the returning players, but I've lost a 2nd IRL friend permanently to the game because the sum flaws are too great. He was off and on then came back for 2v8, played 2 weeks to a month, then hard quit (as in actually hard uninstalled the game, not even leaving it on the harddrive in a 'I might play it occasionally' kind of way).
I think this is the problem though, her past 8 reworks (hyperbole) all have been focused on being more fun for both sides, and they fail every time. Personally I think they are actually doing 2/4 required nerfs to her, alongside needlessly dropping 2 scans to 1. I think they could return to 2 scans if they remove auto-resets for Drones, and add sound cues/lullaby for her in stealth.
Because people will always hate her because its a meme to hate her. It has nothing to do with her power and everything to do with 'SKULL MERCHANT BAD!' she could have no power and only M1 and people would still say shes OP and needs to be removed

her kit encourages a brain dead play style and suggesting everyone adapt to it rather than addressing it is not a solution
it's not hard to get scanned in chase when you're more concerned with pathing/looping than this scan line that you can duck and avoid at the expense of distance. Her haste takes into account your teammates with traps which you have no control over. You can only lose traps by going down (I think?). Her kit is overly complicated for no reason and adapting is not a solution. She should have been designed better from the get go
"Her kit is overly complicated" its literally like 3 things…
"You can only lose traps by going down!" they go away after 45 seconds
"Her kit encourages a brain dead playstyle!" And all this rework did was make that playstyle her only viable playstyle meanwhile plague and trapper do the same with less effort
"Her haste takes into account your teammates with traps which you have no control over." again, if you are getting scanned OUTSIDE OF CHASE that is a skill issue not a killer issue. Oni can snowball a match with 3 extremely good survivors with just 1 mediocre survivor they can early injure.
"it's not hard to get scanned in chase when you're more concerned with pathing/looping than this scan line that you can duck and avoid at the expense of distance." theres a lot of layers to this, so for starters youre mad a trap killer is…using their traps? Second she is an M1 killer who once youre injured has no real way of securing a down beyond purely being good at M1 killer gameplay and a haste boost that may or may not kick in. -

it's not a good precedent but honestly a large portion of the player base does not like her kit now because it's silly (haste and hinder at loops so you can't leave but will die if you stay + free deep wound) and people still remember her old kit; neither kits were good or fun to play against and at this point people still dc or go next because they're just over this killer's failure of a design
to be fair, the devs should have foreseen that her kits were not healthy, especially when the 3 gen meta was a thing and you were introducing a killer who could optimize that style x100
if nerfing this crappy design makes the game more bearable, solo q more bearable, then I'm all for it. There's already too much crap in the game that feels bad (esp in solo q) and this is one less thing to deal with so that's great
also, Mandy confirming the intent isn't really news. You can infer their intent with how they much they gutted her along with knowing how much a sizable portion of the community hated this killer
The hatred was EXTREMELY misplaced and actually arguing with SM hates always proved it. Half of them even now still say they hate her because 'she 3 gens' or 'shes chess merchant' which she hasn't been able to do for almost a YEAR now. ALMOST A YEAR and people are still ignorant to what she even does because they refuse to learn anything about her and follow a hate train trend.
Openly gutting a C-B tier killer worse than ANY other killer before, worse than killers who would need or deserve that treatment, just because people who already dont know how to play against her and refuse to learn her hate her? Even your complaint "HASTE AND HINDERED!" well clown can do that MUCH MUCH MUCH more often, with MUCH more ease but yet not a complaint about Clown. Ignore the fact that without haste she has no way to secure downs and shes reliant on forcing survivors to give her haste, ignore the fact you can dodge the scan beams as is and still loop effectively, ignore the fact you need to be scanned FOUR times with the fourth scan being within 45 seconds of your third scan for hindered to even appear as a status effect.
Yeah sorry theres no justification for this, no matter what anyone says theres nothing to be said about this nerf and the devs handling/attitude about it that isn't extremely disgusting -

With two beams and a 85°/s rotation rate in scouting mode beams will pass your location every 2-2.5 seconds. If you are able to stop dead in chase every 2-2.5 seconds without the killer catching up rapidly, they are catastrophically bad. Meanwhile if you keep running (or mess up the timing on your stop) and eat the 10% hindered + her haste bonus + undetectable, she will catch up maybe a touch slower, but you're closer to taking free damage. Either way she will be way faster than you and is chasing on easy mode unless you leave the loop.
I don't think this is fun at all, and many other players clearly agree. The shreds of counterplay a survivor has are mostly luck based, while her power is babby's first killer levels of simple to use effectively. Chasing is by far the most engaging part of the game for survivors. If that feels awful, you're not going to have fun. And so I don't.
Even in her nerfed state people will play as and against her in a similar way; she'll just be worse. She needs a rework.
Trapper, artist, nurse, nemesis, pyramid head, plague, deathslinger
All simply tap one button forcing you to leave the loop
What Skull Merchant needs 3 scan line hits to accomplish plague accomplishes in one button press instantly -

I mean by speed differential more than direct damage from the drones. She'll often be ~120% and undetectable while the survivor is 90%. That's 1.2 m/s of straight line distance, which is pretty overwhelming. It's the same delta as Clown's bottles and Freddy's snares, but Clown and Freddy have to do a lot more to gain that distance and have other clear drawbacks, while SM has the potential for passive damage.
Edit: And she maintains that delta for about twice as long! Clown's hindered lasts for 2 seconds after you leave the cloud and Freddy's is 3 seconds. Hers is 6 seconds. It's too much, and I'm glad the devs realized that.
Where are you pulling these numbers from? "She'll often be 120% and undetectable" for a few seconds at best? She has no chase power and the 'passive injury' doesn't work against competent survivors who can dodge her beams and if youre getting hit by drones outside of chase that is entirely on you
-
As someone who pretty much only plays her when playing killer, has all her cosmetics, and has been dumping points into her, yes. Theres no reason to EVER pick her once she gets nerfed. Regardless of what they do, shes such an extreme balancing act that even one of these changes besides the hindered nerf would just destroy her entirely because she frankly needs all of it together to even be viable. Unless they REWORK aspects of her kit, then she needs everything she has.

Without updates the game dies. But the amount of new killers/survivors can see a decrease per year. The current model was too aggressive from the start. They should turn a couple chapters into dedicated health/balanced updates.
Not possible. Everytime they do something like this even with mid chapters they lose thousands of players, last time they even tried to do something like this they lose I think it was almost 10k or over 10k players. Its rough, DBD needs CONSTANT content coming out because the base game just gets so boring quick

People keep saying this, but if legions of survivors would rather kill themselves rather than face a given killer, it seems pretty obvious that her power is badly designed and needs a rework. So, if you will die on the hill that she isn't too strong, you have to accept that her power is so ill conceived that lots of people hate playing against her. That is still plenty of justification for a nerf pending a rework that can make her better for both sides.
Please calm down and stop putting me in a bucket with other randoms. I haven't been on this forum in years and I know how she works.
There is literally nothing she does that other killers cant do better or even easier. There is NO reason for her, especially now, to have the level of hate that she does and the hate is going to forever be ingrained no matter how fine she is (As proven by her current state).

From what I've seen, pretty much all content creators agree that this nerf is way too heavy handed, and the ones that don't like SM admit that the only reason they're fine with these changes is because they dislike the killer, not because the changes are reasonable. I don't think the majority of the community wants her to be totally and utterly useless, people are just fed up with the current version.
If they rework her, they need to do something to freshen people's view on her. New terror radius, new base skin, new trailer, new walk cycle, the more the better. Once they've made an actually decent power to play as and against they need to distance the new version from the old in more ways than just her power. Otherwise, her terrible reputation will remain and people will STILL be inclined to give up against her, even if she was genuinely fun now.
Theyre only fed up because said content creators told them to be. I will never not say that SM hate is purely from memes and content creators overblowing the situation because there was never any reason to hate her more than any other killer when soooo many do what she does but better

You will NOT be injuring anyone with lock on with new skully lol. If you get a lock on injure it will be from the worst noob survivors imaginable

@mizark3 said:
Copied from (my post in) another nearly similar thread (with fixed spelling):
SM is better at 4 (legitimate) categories than the original/comparable Killers are.
Stealth - She has no audio cues with ~90% stealth uptime. Myers/Ghosty/Freddy/Onryo/Dredge all have sound cues, so why doesn't she? Add sound cues and she is fine in this department.
Hindered - Clown and Freddy slow 15% for ~3s, or 45% total hindered. She slows 10% for 6s, or 60% total hindered. Her hindered should be worse than theirs. Either halve the % or halve the duration and she is fine here, oh wait, that's a proposed nerf! Fix in progress.
Haste - MfT apparently was too powerful at 3%, and she gets it as well as up to more than double it. Revert MfT, or remove the Haste, oh wait, that's a proposed nerf! Fix in progress.
Traps (with the potential for damage) Auto-reset - Hag doesn't get this, and Trapper needs an Iridescent add-on to do this. Make the drones require an add-on, or physical reset, and she is fine in this department.
Bugs (the 5th illegitimate category)- Bugtech got fixed, but she still gets triple scans on a single scan. Fix this bug so that the 3s scan delay actually applies, and she is fine in this department.
The proposed nerfs only end up fixing half of her design flaws. Ideally she gets a stealth sound cue, and traps stop auto-resetting in the next update to actually make her fair.
This is an entire sheet of skill issue cause oh my god who complains about STEALTH on skull merchant
-
@Merciless_Killer said:
Okay as someone who plays Trapper you have to stop saying "X killer is the worst killer in the game" every time they get a nerf
No killer will ever be as bad as Trapper is except arguably Freddy.You cannot compare a killer who(even with the proposed changes) will still be able to go undetectable at will, injure survivors across obstacles, hit and run without hitting, potentially instadown with two taps, etc. and who starts with her power in hand at the start and doesn't even have to go and collect it to a killer who has to pick his power up off the ground every time.
Mmm no Skull Merchant takes the cake now. A purely M1 killer with no way to realistically injure, pressure, or down survivors outside of an M1 and being slightly shorter than trapper.

@JonahofArk said:
Shes not. I've gone up against good SM. What they do is place drones in high traffic areas where it's hard to hack her drones. Initiate chase and basically bait the survivor to run into all your drones. Claw trapped and downed. Simple. I dislike how people complain about changes, but don't try to adapt to them. She's still gonna be brain dead when it comes to getting value from her power. You place a drone. If not hacked, survivor runs into it. Bam scanned.
She was a pain to go against. Now, there's just more counter play for survivor. and I also play SM when I feel like killer games aren't going my way with my normal picks. I use the same strat, and there's nothing the survivors can do about it cause they can't hack my drones lol. Nothing is going to change except the haste. Which really needed to go. Wasn't fair if she chases you and is faster cause your other teammates got scanned.
Hope you use this strat. Have a good day.
You must hate trapper

Well, they still kinda did this regardless now that scan lines got nerfed and stealth mode basically got removed. So no worries about lock-on stack removal ruining them.
True. How does BHVR has such a bad track record with things like this? This is FAR from the first time that a killer is hated for a specific playstyle and BHVRs idea to address it is remove ALL other playstyles and force the most unfun horrible one by nerfing the killer overall, requiring them to only do one horrid playstyle to be effective (See Hag for a good example)

Again, you guys continued to ignore the evidence and reasoning that she was unhealthy and due for nerfs with 'git gud' and now there's an outrage over the delusions being broken.
BHVR hasn't been dishonest at all, you guys lied to yourselves.
Except she does what other killers do…and several other killers do it much better lol. Clown has always been a superior pick over SM and hes no where near complained about, Plague was always better at holding 3 gens than SM, SM's lethality was basically betting on survivor mistakes with room for good plays on her end, overall there was no reason for her to be anywhere near hated to the level she was.

@ChaosWam said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3797222#Comment_3797222
Problem is when the traps are more lethal than they are currently, it becomes unfun on survivor side to deal with. Especially since you can't remove lock-on stacks. And it didn't have to be disabling drones, they could have had them decay over a reasonable amount of time or something.
Whatever they're planning with this change, however, doesn't make this point matter now. As well put by this next response:https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3797223#Comment_3797223
The scan line changes pretty much kill her drones as is. Less useful in loops, and far more useless as traps considering how they literally tell you where they are without stealth mode. And even with stealth, I could see the pattern they leave on the floor with the current SM. That's what really upsets me the most.
The playstyle I saw people complaining about the most and the most valid imo complaint about her was the 'follow to loop, press M2, and leave' style. Making lock on stacks decay or go away basically makes it so that would be the only playstyle for her as keeping them around as traps would be a detriment more than anything at that point especially without haste.
-
@ChaosWam said:
I think I could have lived with the removal of haste, for sure.
However, the scan line change makes no sense. And we still have no way to remove lock on stacks.If you add the ability to remove lock on stacks that just makes the worst way to play against her the ONLY viable way to play against her. Removing lock on stacks means shes just gonna spam drop drone at every loop and try to force a scan line in chase which is only even a viable strategy if the survivor has 2 scans already. They needed to make her trap setup more lethal not make it useless

i think that and also give her another small compensation and she’ll be fine.
Since the hinder is only 5% and she has no more haste, she’s just legion but worse. Give her some better stealth or improve the trapping playstyle in some way.
"Improve the trapping playstyle" This would be so hot omg. I loved the haste but if they somehow replaced the haste with something to trap better and be more lethal I think (as long as its effective) I would LOVE that too. What draws me to SM is the area denial/trap set up playstyle
-
@VomitMommy said:
Why even nerf hindered?
Claw trap will be near impossible outside of chase and way more difficult during the chase. You can make it 100% and it's pointless.
Without haste, if undetectable didn't work (LoS), you are M1 killer without a power. Nothing in chase.
How more useless could killer be at this point?
Had to make sure that she had absolutely no redeeming qualities or anything that could make up for the fact shes trapper if you had to step in his traps 3 times to get injured

Even 1 or 2 of these changes going live has almost the same effect. And please, it was you guys who REFUSED to learn how to counter or play around SM and instead just demanded she be nerfed because she was made in a bad meta. Even if the drones were always in stealth mode these changes just destroy her. Theres nothing scary about her drone unless youre in chase and well…they just cut the lethality of them in chase by like 90% lol she genuinely became the worst killer in the entire game with this patch alone

I would disagree. Since the range of boon is sphere, you can get benefit of boon in multiple stories in the maps like RPD. And also, taking more time to find a totem means that it would also take more time for killer to snuff the boon out.
Yeah but what does it matter if that totem only needs to be lit once?
-
Imo if its able to produce the same results then its needed, that wolf form is horrible otherwise.
-
I actually love coldwind daytime and think the dusk/day aesthetic of it is extremely beautiful but we do need more horror in this game. Sadly, I don't believe we're going to ever get horror atmospheres back in DBD. Recently fog in general was removed from gameplay and they seem intent on making this game in the same vein of fortnite where you just play for the gameplay and everything else is just bloat to sell content. Settings have always been unimmersive and very 'this is a video game' like but they're going full throttle into that direction now so I personally wouldn't expect any further atmosphere improvements from BHVR
-
Well last time we tried to get rid of blood lust it was a complete DISASTER and not much of anything has changed from then. If anything BL is needed more just due to the amount of pallets that spawn for each map now since they moved onto making maps based around pallet gameplay like they said they would.

According to the stats killers hit bloodlust tier one in over 70% of games
Source?
I also doubt that there's any way to discern if bloodlust is needed by map design or if the killer is playing in ways that bloodlust is more common simply from one stat.
For examples: Is this just killers respecting pallets too much unnecessarily? Or is this just a case of things like skull merchant drops a drone at every pallet and the only gameplay is to hold w, which basically forces bloodlust?
Skull Merchant is the Taylor Swift of DBD because no matter what the conversation is and whether or not it has anything to do with her in the slightest people will find a way to insert her into it just to hate on her

I saw Illumination last week. I think it's been months since I've seen Dark Theory. Or, more likely, Dark Theory is so ridiculously weak that I cannot notice when it's doing anything.
Illumination also helps track which generators are done and which aren't. That alone can be more useful than 2% Haste in some nowhere corner of the map where boons always end up.
Theres also a way to do that without wasting time on a boon and thats seeing if the gigantic towering antenna like spotlight on the generators are turned on or not

Dark Theory is the worst boon. Map-wide generator highlighting for the team is more useful than a tiny Haste buff in a tiny area.
I think spending over a minute locating and booning a totem just to see generators that you can already see the location of due to the gigantic spotlights on top of them is infinitely less useful than a perk that has at least given me trouble on nurse for messing up my muscle memory while this perk I've just never seen in a match period
