Oni is not even the best combo for Legion given Legion already does a good job in keeping everyone injured, so the one hit down doesn't come into play as often. Legion's strength is that his duo, when patrolling the map, could find an injured survivor from Legion's frenzy and easily take them down while Legion himself kept the rest of survivors busy mending, that's what people disliked about him. Blight, Spirit, Nurse or even Wraith can be very deadly alongside Legion just as much as Oni.
Oni just so happen to have a power, that, regardless if you're injured or not, you'll be going down on hit anyway and as long your duo can land proper hits on survivor, he will be fed with blood.

But Escapist with on-demand Sprint Burst, Medic healing mid chase, or just removing hook states for finding the glowy thingy around the map is fine btw. While also nerfing ALL killer classes to more inferior states than before.

I agree with Nurse and Blight, but disagree with the rest; because of the way 2v8 maps are, with the resources they have, and especially with Scouts being able to rebuild pallets, a lot of killers will struggle to get that second hit. Even Billy struggles because of the pallet volume and difficulty curving around some of the 2v8 loops. Wraith was useless because all he has is the super lunge, which is great if the survior is out of position, but again 2v8 map design means they're basically never out of position.

Oni is unique in that his major limitation is he's forced to play as a 115 powerless killer until he gets his first hit. In 2v8, when he can be paired with Blight, with Nurse, with Huntress, with Dracula, with Pyramid (though he's awful in this mode, RIP), that major limitation just doesn't exist because now he doesn't have to get the first hit. And once he snowballs, he just never stops, and this may be a bold claim but Oni in power is one of the strongest killers in the game because of his mobility and turn potential - the insta-down barely even factors into it, to be honest. Because his biggest weakness is removed, he becomes an incredibly good killer, and again in my opinion Legion was the one who received all the blame.

I genuinely do not think Legion would be a problem in 2v8 if readded, especially if they choiced them with Oni to stop the complaints about the combo being too strong. Also, I'd like to see Oni excluded from just one rotation to see if he really is the problem - not permanently, mind you - as well as more added in the rotation he's excluded from to keep it feeling fresh

Re: your last sentence, I've never claimed otherwise lol.

Its comments like these is why we can't have good things. As soon Legion got removed, everyone else with a slightly bad survivor experience in 2v8 started looking for which other killers they should aim their sights at on who else should be taken out. Its not enough survivors are getting the strongest buffs and classes they ever saw in any game mode or modifier, the other side needs to be completely multilated for them to enjoy their part.

I'd actually go one step further and argue it was always Oni that was the problem, people just didn't recognise it, and he's also acting as a barrier for killers like Plague to be introduced. They should try swapping Legion for Oni for the next 2v8 and see what happens, or even just choice-lock them; I don't think people hate Legion specifically, they hated the Legion/Oni combo and Legion got most of the flak for it since Oni's pretty popular.

I mean pyramid head is playable in 2v8 and he's one of the less recent killers

BHVR also have a really good relationship with Konami, hence why we could have Castlevania-themed Lights Out, a Konami-celebration 2V8, and a lot more licenced skins than we usually get. They have a good relationship with Capcom, too, evidenced by the multiple chapters, the Rese-themed 2V8, and the skins. We can take a safe guess they don't have a great relationship with ANOES, since Freddy and Quentin have been given dust since their release (and we know from Demo's removal, Pinhead's removal, and now Myers' removal, that anything which impacts the power of the killer, including add-ons, is BHVR's to change unilaterally, while anything affecting their appearance requires licenced sign-off). It's entirely possible Konami said yes, absolutely we're fine with that, same with Capcom, especially as they've already got multiple character in DBD, and these agreements could have been negotiated when they were in talks for establishing the 2nd chapter from them (Castlevania and Project W respectfully). I could see something very similar happening with Xeno if they ever negotiate a 2nd Disney chapter.

We know they've got a good relationship with the SAW franchise, too, so I'd be shocked if Pig doesn't make an appearance at some point, and I don't know about Onryo's but they had a good relationship when Sadako Rising first released. I could see her making an appearance, and same with Bubba since TCSM shut down, though I could also see them being on much shakier ground. Tokyo Ghoul I believe has been received roughly by the licence holders and so we're unlikely to see much content for that licence going forwards, too.

So while this is all speculation from things we've just sort of picked up over the years, it doesn't seem too far fetched to suggest it's entirely about licensing. After all, DBD was pitched as a 1v4 game, so maybe their "standard" licencing agreements specified it would be 1 killer against 4 survivors, and adding them to 2V8 would technically breach this term and leave them open to a legal challenge, so even if there's nothing explicitly against it they'd err on the side of caution. We just don't know for sure.

See above, it's the most likely explanation. Chekhov's gun and all that

  • Most successful was honestly surprising to me. 81% kill rate on Freddy is insane to me, so it's a good thing I enjoy messing around with pallets.

    image.png

He's only #5 most played, though, which doesn't shock me that much. I am surprised Nurse made an appearance, though, since I hate playing her, and Onryo is still up there even though I haven't touched her in over a year. Pyramid Head really isn't a surprise - if anything 121 hours feels a little underwhelming

    image.png
  • David and Jake exclusively to call the ship name Free Parking

  • havent seen anyone mention him yet but shout out to @Orion, gone but not forgotten. we disagreed with a lot but he stood by his principles and i respect that so bad.

    also obligatory @Cheers mention

  • Claudette Morel and it's not even close, like she's been there for me since day one

    image.png
  • Objectively? Probably, he does what PH does but stronger in almost every way, the only thing PH has that's truly unique now are his cages. It basically doesn't matter if you miss as Vecna either, since his cooldown is so short you can just hold a survivor at an unsafe loop and spam until you get them.

But PH is more fun for me to play, from my limited time on the PTB, so he still gets his niche

  • You'll have to forgive my lack of evidence, I don't have any footage and can only speak from my own gameplay, but I've played him quite a lot and have done consistently since his release and I distinctly remember a period - after they fixed the first time - where it was fine, and then it broke again, and now they've fixed it again. I can't give you a timeframe, my memory is shot, so all I have is my word and reputation.

In all fairness as well. A bug should not be left in for so long people get used to it being a part of the power i guess. That was the reason for the blight drama. He had a bug for so long that it basically became part of the killer itself. Then obviously when its removed a lot of people didnt like it. Quake kinda had this with rocket jumping which was not a intended mechanic. Then it went into tf2 as a offical thing. If a bug exists for so long the players get used to it then it should feel more like a nerf then a bugfix. Especially to those who main the character.

I agree, honestly, they should at least put it somewhere higher in the patch notes, because people who haven't been around for too long won't know that it's unintended and think it's a shadownerf. But this one specifically doesn't feel like a nerf - to me, anyway - because I knew it was a bug that would eventually be fixed. Time and time again the message "cages are not hooks" were said, and they weren't intended to give hook perks or noise notifications on the PTB, but likewise if someone's started playing in the last 2 years then they won't know this.

It wasn't handled amazingly, agreed, but there was a period where it was fixed and working as intended. That I am sure of.

  • In all fairness, it was a bug. It's a bug that's existed for a year and a half, maybe two years at this point, but I distinctly remember it not being a thing on his release. I feel like people have gotten used to it being there given how long it's existed but it was a bug. There's many instances where you can argue shadow nerf over bugfix - like Plague pointed out earlier in this thread - but I don't think this applies

  • unironically, bringing back bbq would fix it in 9/10 cases. removing bp from perks was just one of the terrible ideas present in 6.1.0 and now that its had 3 years to settle i genuinely think that patch is the root cause for a lot of the issues we're facing now

This was from my last game. Was just wondering if people's supply of them is just really huge or something. I dont throw alot of BPs into survivor, so can't really look at my own stash as a good example.

ive easily got like 130+ on claudette (p100) and something like 52 on david (p49) and thats with me swapping between using them + gel dressings

  • I'm cautiously optimistic about the Executioner changes. I'll obviously have to wait and see how he plays on PTB but hopefully "slightly reduced his zoning potential" doesn't affect prediction shots + flicking, and I absolutely do not trust increased the range of punishment of the damned to not mean increased range by 0.5m (value of black strap), reworked black strap + wax doll, nerfed burning man painting to +1m and made it ultra rare, but again we'll have to wait and see.

Also, with the nerf to cages' tunneling potential (something I'm also not entirely sold on - I think that endurance or haste is needed but both muddies the water between cages + hooks and makes going for cages in all but optimal caging situations even less worth it, but again wait and see) give us back torment on punishment of the damned hits, even if it's just on injures and not on downs making it easier to torment given this protection shouldn't go too pear-shaped.

And just like that, Faulty Floorboards continues to be one of the most slept on perks in the game.

While you may not get direct value of getting a pallet break, it still makes some one have to play a tile differently which would otherwise be completely safe. Shaquille or jungle gyms for example which are known to be some of the safest loops in the game now have to be played around differently just because of this perk. Pair it up with Bamboozle or with a killer with good zoning or area denial and you got yourself a good time

dissolution vecna when combined with buffed fly is genuinely terrifying and im so glad people sleep on that perk because once a pallet gets dropped its ggs for the loop

tbh people complain whether they got tunneled or not….but yea i see your point, but again u i think u probably felt pressed once or twice when u see 3 gens pop even while playing casually, because this happens to me sometimes, i go with the intent of fun and not a care in the world just to find myself with a mean set up

and i been on this game for far too long to take the anger with me to next game, because i know there is a 90% chance the next game im gonna get some funny people or players that are very new

Oh, of course I felt pressed, but then when I loaded into the next game I'd taken a quick breather and calmed down and didn't randomly take my frustrations out on a random group of people who have nothing to do with the previous game.

  • My take on it is that if you do everything in your power to win, you forfeit your ability to complain about someone else doing the same. I primarily play the game for fun, because it's a video game and there's no money or actual stakes on the line, and I'm far more likely to believe (or even appreciate) complaints about unfun perks/powers/items/strategies if the one complaining isn't also doing their best to make the other's lives miserable. If I don't want it to happen to me in my games, I don't do it to someone else.

Completely separate point, because BM is a cycle. If you get pressed, and you take that anger into the next match you'll make the games of a completely separate group of people unfun, who'll in turn make the games of a completely separate killer unfun. I keep whatever I feel inside each game.

The same way you'll probably tell me to bring niche killer perk #142 to barely counter a strong perk survivors have. Don't try to be condescending with me.

In all fairness Gift of Pain (what's its new name, Weeping Wounds?) is one of the best anti-heal perks in the game, and that and/or Leverage is actually very useful at dealing with healing. Especially if you're on a killer that can interrupt survivors often or make them think they'll be interrupted so they go somewhere safer first - so obviously your high mobility ones, but also some stealth killers + Doctor - they're shockingly effective at slowing down healing, which in turn slows down gens because a) they spend more time healing and b) if they die faster they're not on gens as much. I'd hesitate to call either of those perks "niche", especially if we see the healing prevalence continue, because they can do some serious damage particularly to Resurgence.

Actually something fun I've noticed two days later, I decided that over the past two days I'd just try and see if my claim was right. I changed how I played almost entirely, going from playing for fun memes, like Head On or 5 stacks of Autodidakt, to actually trying to escape. My build has been some variation of Botany, Deja Vu, Sprint Burst, Vigil, and Windows of Opportunity (I changed Vigil to Deja Vu when someone told me it was bugged to reduce at 60% instead of 40%), alongside a medkit with enough charges for 2 full self-heals, and the difference is night and day.

    image.png

I've gone from a 22% escape rate to a 51% escape rate in quite literally 2 days (I've been playing a lot of David because P100 bloodwebs are so inefficient for cakes that I can get about triple the amount on him than I can Claudette)

    image.png

Botany has managed to become my #1 most picked perk, and the escape rate on it is also quite impressive, but not as good as the other perks of my build which I didn't run prior to this.

    image.png

In fact, the new perks all boast an impressive 70%+ escape rate.

    image.png

My conclusion? I'm not washed, I'm slowly beating the fraud allegations, and when I focus on the game I'm actually, shockingly alright at it.

And the Escape Streak lives, too

Thank you for congratulating me, be advised you’re missing the point. The gamers using applications such as Reshade, should not be allowed to utilize them now that gamma settings are available in the game settings. And for those who say its the same thing, then why not just use the games gamma settings without filter apps? If your argument is, why complain gamma is the same as reshade…. Ok then so if its the same then only use the in game gamma settings. If you really believe that they’re both the same, stop using filter applications and only use the in-game gamma. Make sense? Probably not lol its okay

The main isssue is… how do you ban reshade? Sure, you can disable Nvidia Freestyle quite easily by just opting out, but how do you ban something that changes the monitor and not the program itself, and do so in a way that doesn't intrude on privacy greatly because a. BHVR's securities haven't been the greatest in the past and b. any sloppiness whatsoever opens them up to a major breach of GDPR if any personal information gets used in any way that was not disclosed. And when you account for all of that, a lot of monitors nowadays have ways to actively change settings such as brightness, colour, contrast etc. built into the hardware. How do you prevent that from happening?

If not impossible, it is not financially feasable or reasonable to do. The fact of the matter is BHVR would expend far more resources in trying to fix the unfixable than they would gain by trying to ban a program (when alternatives exist, down to the hardware itself).

  • This is just speculation, but Netflix didn't return the licence through goodwill, they returned it because DBD fans annoyed them so much they relented. There was hypothetically theoretically speculatively apparently perhaps not confirmed a second ST chapter in the work prior to losing the licence, and there is a licenced chapter releasing in November, around the same time as ST s5 would drop, so there's still some copium left in the tank, but Netflix overall do not seem to want to collaborate with BHVR (or, indeed, anyone) much at all

By that logic, can we killswitch survivors like Ace, that provide an auditory benefit of being much quieter than their normal survivor counterparts?

I mean at this point I feel like it has to be intentional. They talked about normalising survivor audio levels… 5? 6 years ago now? And nothing has happened.

  • @BearCub said:

In all honesty the AFK update is like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Stopping survivors do a load of legitimate actions just to punish the small minority who genuinely do absolutely nothing. Trying to stealth across the map to get an unhook so the killer didn't catch me while I was going for it and crows appear. Great. At this point, you may as well just give the killer a basekit ability to see where all survivors are at all times. I genuinely do not want to play this game right now.

I think this hits my biggest issue with it on the head, too. Knowing that the system exists and will push me away from more niche playstyles to just be as hypervigilant on gens as I can be to avoid the new crow system (so when I do need to stealth I'll have maximum time to do so) just… doesn't make me want to boot up dbd. Even while the punishment part of the go-next prevention is off, all of the oversights just don't make me want to play the game.

  • If anything, I'd argue that this video proves the point further. People are getting crows for cleansing Hex Totems (especially with ToTH omw) or opening chests or unhooking survivors but this Mikaela was able to circumvent the system quite easily. So clearly, it's both too effective at punishing the wrong people and not good enough at punishing the right people; in other words, it's a failure.

  • And if I said that 6.1.0 is to blame for shifting the community's mentality away from fun-based to competitive-based, the pinnacle of which was removing BBQ/WGLF stacks, which in-turn made the go-next issue so severe because people stopped playing a game for fun, or for their own personal goals (especially BBQ/WGLF) and instead just to win so when the odds of winning were less than 75% they'd just give up

  • Tbh I agree entirely. Stealth was a valuable part of the gameplay, and the current crow system punishes usual stealth way too much for what is supposed to counter only "extreme hiding". We already know that BHVR can track how long it's been since objectives were progressed, because that's what the abandon system does. We didn't need anything from this crow update except the loss of collision, but that didn't need to be tied to AFK crows whatsoever and could just be a "X player will lose collision if X player has not moved more than a certain distance in 30 seconds" and would be more effective than the current version (which can take upwards of 190 seconds to reach 3 crows if being bodyblocked by the killer) without actively penalising stealth play.

They massively overcomplicated the fix and, in doing so, have now dug themselves into an even deeper hole to fix it. I like to try and see where their systems can be salvaged, but I genuinely think the AFK Crow needs a full revert and to return to the oven for a bit longer, if at all, and we can take the losing collision aspect and just make it part of base kit. Abandon already exists to prevent this as it ends the match in a draw.

I remember this being confirmed in the infamous hockey stream, but if this remains true we don't know because we've gotten no details since then. They could have changed how they calculate skill/success entirely but as far as we know based on what's been confirmed to us it remains an escape-based matchmaking system.
