That show has been absolutely brilliant so far :)
.
I take it VPN does not work for console users then? Its not something you can set up using a laptop to protect you while you play on console?
Rather unfortunately I don't think that's the case, and as far as I know there are no legal methods to installing a VPN on your console.
If you still want to play, I advise caution and locking down accounts preemptively (as in, go into private mode on most socials). If you believe yourself to be a victim of a DDOS attack contact your ISP, and if you have been doxxed contact the police. Be cautious.

Sportsmanship? As survivors teabag their way merrily across the map? Hah!
But yeah, hopefully this gets fixed fast.

It's threads like this that make me feel 2 things:
Lucky to have access to the forums...
And...
Terrified of having internet access.
Even if it does make some people a bit afraid of it, I'd much rather the information be out there and relatively easy to access, instead of people falling victim to these attacks.

Thanks for the heads up.
Would anyone happen to know, does this only affect pc players?
Are console players safe?
I don't believe so. IP addresses are used whenever you'd connect to the Internet, which consoles do, and while I don't think there's any encryption or other protection involved I could be wrong.
If you believe yourself to have been DDOSed, attempt to reset/change your IP address (the linked article tells you how to do this), and make sure you stay as safe as is possible to avoid further complications.

Hey there! Game developer here (no, I don't work for BHVR or are affiliated with them) but the Steam Settings related to Steam Datagram Relay(SDR)/Steam Networking has no effect when playing DbD as they don't utilize SDR nor do they use Steam Sockets which would obfuscate your IP Address into a steam.{SteamID64} address when playing the game. SDR is cross-platform, but to utilize it whenever they use Gamelift would more than likely be a challenge. Using a VPN would be the best bet to protect yourself currently if you do decide to play.
Got it, thanks! I'll edit this into the thread now.
-
Will edit this into the main thread now!
Thank you to @MandyTalk for point it out, BHVR have made a statement on this in a Eurogamer article.
A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is a malicious attack on the IP address of a user, flooding the network with suspicious amounts of traffic from bots to prevent them from streaming. Here is said statement:

Imagine being forced to buy a VPN to play a game due to the devs being so incompetent they cause swatting to happen. I think "Just play something else." is a better suggestion.
I thought that would be obvious but this was intended for people who wanted to continue to play DBD while the issue is going on.

- Yes. When you have 9 tokens, the perk actually cannot detect totems anymore.
- Becomes dull again.
If you bless a dull totem, at least during the first PTB round, it is destroyed just like it has been blessed.

Again, there are five totems. The fact that other people, at times, cleanse totems doesn't change the fact that you're going to get more than one use out of the perk in the vast majority of games.
It's funny you mention inner strength. A far weaker perk that also has a maximum of five uses per match. Why's that limitation fair for inner strength but not for boons?
If you read my previous comment I was absolutely all for limiting the use of boons, just not to once per trial.
Though I absolutely wouldn't mind buffing Inner Strength, which Pentimento actually does. So that's always nice
-
Not with that attitude.

There are five totems in a given map.
With 4 people who could potentially use boons, also factoring in people who cleanse totems for challenges/inner strength. Then totems which spawn in bad places to boon too. A lot of people don't like one time use perks.
DS and UB are not counted because their effects are felt throughout every game, even if a survivor doesn't have the perk equipped. People are naturally wary of slugging or tunneling due to these perks possibly being in the trial.

Slow......the.....pace of the game.....that's is actually really funny because it hasn't slowed the game down at all....in fact it sped the game up because if killers look for a Boon they will lose the game fast
"However the implementation was just a smidge too broken"
Reading comments in their entirety will get you far.

They are Boons.....nothing healthy about them. They were made to make Hexs obsolete, a reason to nerf ToTH, and a reason to promote a more toxic atmosphere for killers and hold survivors hands that cant actually adapt to changing conditions of various killers.
I mean, if you wanna believe that then go for it.
Personally I think they were made to encourage alternate objectives for the survivors to help slow the pace of the game, however the implementation was just a smidge too broken.
-
Honestly due to their limited range of effects I don't think many people would use them, if they were a one time use perk.
Limited uses I can get behind. Like each boon has 1/2/3 tokens and each time you bless it consumes a token from every boon perk you have equipped, for example. That'd help tone them down, add in some resource management to them (do I use it early to deny early game pressure or do I use it late game to help prevent the pressure point of no return), and in general promote healthier skillful gameplay and interactions where the survivors are not on generators.
-
That's how I play and have fun so

Fun fact, that's also the official designer of the original Never Stop Slashing!! skin. He made skins for Julie, Joey, and Susie, after seeing how much people liked Frank's competition entry.

I agree with this. Once combo i am worried about is Overcome and Dead Hard. Use overcome, the killer will probably give up. Repair a gen whilst injured. When the killer comes you have dead hard. Could be avoided with a longer cooldown.
If this ever becomes meta, Fearmongerer/Mindbreaker would then become meta to counter it

U don't need tournament level team to gen rush. Only requirement for good swf is to be efficient.
Let's say it takes u 10sec to find someone, u down him after 40sec chase, u hook him in 10 sec. It's almost 3 gens for a single down.
Buts let's be real, most of the time u don't find someone so fast and spend some time for hide and seek play while survivors track u and move accordingly. It's 3 gen on 1st down.
And if they take toolboxes or/and speed perks u can half the time survivors need.
My fastest gen was repaired in 15 sec. Fastest game i saw players made was around 3 min mark. Killer just went afk after 4 gen pop in 2+ min.
But if you face those teams constantly this late into MMR and keep losing you will stop facing them. From my own experience, I went from facing constant tournament squads (I checked steam profiles, and a lot of them were the same people) to being able to get very consistent 3ks-4ks again within... About a month.
-
You can snuff out the totems by locating them through the sound effects, removing the effect temporarily until further blessings.
You can also recreate The Blair Witch Project if it's going too badly but I wouldn't suggest it
-
Genuine question. Are you sure you're facing the GodSquad SWFs and getting nothing but the worst, or could it be you? Like if it's every single game this late into MMR then it's pretty doubtful you're getting the Tournament Sweat Squads™ every day.

Oh okay. But like others have said if its a popular streamer or if you could view their achievements, you could get an idea of who they'll pick.
Personally I'm for it because there's one specific player in EU servers I'd do anything to never face again, but I get the issues raised with it. And honestly I'd really like if if you couldn't see the opposing teams' names at all until you're in the game. Just their character, cosmetics, and items.

I think I'd rather just take Tinkerer behind the shed but I'd be satisfied with anything at this point
If I said to nerf Tinkerer I know a lot of people would be like "just use spine chill" thinking that the undetectable is the strong part of the perk lmao, so choice restrictions it is.

Whereas the other playstyle is just run in loops around a pallet/vault until you get hit or drop the pallet in a time-crunch meta where the Killer screwing up a mind-game can cost them enough time to finish a gen.
Now introducing Blight, Spirit, Nurse, and to an extent Hag. All of whom counter the W key gameplay but also can't be looped if you're good as them. :)
-
@EvilJoshy said:
What other 4v1 games could you see who the 1 picked? Only other 4v1 i played was evolve and you couldnt see who the monster picked. For the same reason as dbd. If you knew who the killer was at the lobby screen you would bring perks to counter that killer.
Not who they picked, who the player is. As in it'll show you that you're facing someone called XxKittenSlayer69xX but not which character they're playing.

To he honest, the complete eradication of bad Blights using Ruindying Tinkerer would be one of the better results of nerfing him.
Still think his basekit is completely fine tho.
The day choice restrictions for perks come into play will be the day I shall celebrate.

5-7 day turnaround is hogwash. There is absolutely no good reason why BHVR can’t get the game files approved by the console companies well ahead of time, since the PTB is a PLANNED event.
However this allows them to upload the stable version of the PTB the same day as it's created instead of needing the stable version 5-7 days in advance.
Again all this would be solved if it had a dedicated launcher but

"We're satisfied with The Blights basekit but ######### it, the Blight now has a limited amount of times he can use his power before he overdoses on the Blight serum."
"This reduces his movement speed to 0.5 m/s and if he is stunned by a pallet he ######### dies. We hope this brings him in line with our other killers."
-
Because DBD doesn't have it's own dedicated launcher, is I believe the reason.
Though I completely agree, the ability to see how badly an update bricks last-gen consoles would be nice.
-
@ShinobuSK said:
I think he would be much weaker and much more add on reliant.
Unless his power would recharge faster to make up for move speed nerf?
Either way I am not for changing Blight in any way so far. He is in a good spot.
Yes, we all hate ruin tinkerer Blights, but thats not fault of the Blight
I agree, base Blight is so fun and I hope all they do is tweak some more obnoxious addons.
Don't do a Billy to him, devs, please.
-
@EntitySpawn said:
Garbage. He already slides of things and cant use his power to get you at X amount of loops.
Probably a change we will see to him though considering how the balance is going and how people complain about everything
Honestly basekit Blight without Tinkerer is one of the most fun experiences in the game to face imho (I was using a meme build at the time) so I'd really hope people don't complain about him too much. Alch ring and maybe Blighted Crow I could ask for a tweak to but his actual basekit? Please let that stay.

-
It's another anti-loop no mobility killer encouraging the W key meta because we haven't had enough of those yet.
