This sucks majorly. She did such a good job.
The Unknown is probably my favorite original killer they've ever made, but knowing that its existence makes its actress uncomfortable puts a damper on my enjoyment a bit.
If it's any consolation, she's released another statement asking that people stop blowing it as out of proportion as it was, bhvr have been incredibly supportive and the issue lies more with the community than the devs. The skins aren't the issue and never have been, just the lack of communication regarding the model as she feels like others would have been more suited (even though she absolutely killed it, and I'm glad she's making more Unknown references through her account now).
There has been a recent misunderstanding. Anybody that thinks the skins are going away is not in the loop. Behavior is allegedly aware of the mass transphobic remarks and memes being made, and the gaming community is not a reflection of the game developers. I wasn’t kept in the loop with what the characters final look would be, I was given an ambiguous description for the part, and even though I tried my best to find out more, continually asking for more info, that wasn’t possible. This is why I was upset. The skins themselves were never the issue. Lack of communication was. Please STOP “Boycotting” Behavior. They are NOT transphobic, it’s wrong to take bits of info and jump to your own conclusions. Behavior is a good company, and has been nothing but kind and supporting through this tough process of receiving mass harassment for my involvement in the character. Leave. It. A..lo-ne. - Zoey AlexandriaWhat's done is done, and if she's anything like me I'd say she'd prefer people enjoy her work to the fullest rather than not enjoy it as much because of this situation. Obviously I don't and can't speak for her, but I wouldn't let this stop you from enjoying Unknown as much as you want to.

She's also said that she had no idea the killer would look like this and if she'd known the amount of transphobic vitriol that would spawn from it (there was no model at time of recording) she never would have taken the role
Source?
A series of now-deleted tweets (@zoeyalexandria9, https://twitter.com/Zoeyalexandria9?t=-YlvNOXjL98Xm4nSgC0MPg&s=09) that I do not possess Screenshots of, so I'm afraid you're going to have to trust me.
But I do have proof that she didn't know what the model would be
@Comedianjoe1 @EpicDaylight If I had known what they intended for the skins. I wouldn’t have taken the role and instead suggested a non-binary individual take it, who wouldn’t get dysphoric from having gender roles be a little mixed. And she would've let another take the role had she known exactly what the role would've entailed to stop herself from feeling so dysphoric.
The comments about her mental health suffering because of it, and the transphobic backlash, I do not have evidence for anymore.
-
It's unfortunately another mechanic a lot better in swf than solo.
In swf you can have 3 people leg it down to the basement and have the invocation done within 40 seconds at the cost of only one of them being broken. In solo you're just out of luck lol.

It's sad to see but I'll repeat what I said somewhere else.
DBD is a horror themed game. The unknown is a simply a grotesque creature dressing up as the humans/victims it's seen, even to the point of bodiliy features. I'm not even a horror fan and I've seen 20 cheer leaders killed over the years.
It doesn't even represent trans people so there's no point in giving these people trying to make it that thought. The voice is also irrelevant, it was just another person doing their job.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3675353#Comment_3675353
"Just get back in the closet and pretend that you're not lgbtq+ for the rest of the world because some bad actors hate you" do you understand how bad this sounds?
Ok, I don't have deep thoughts on this but you seem to be taking it quite far. If you open yourself to the world for all to see, it's reasonable to expect these "bad actors" to give you hate and malice. Purple haze seemed to have good intentions and you kinda just threw them into the dirt there by making them sound terribly bad. I've gotten more hate in overwatch from the lgbtq+ community than anyone else and I say that even though half the profiles were privated. That doesn't make me feel the need to private my profile or hate that community just because those people were so toxic to me.
It's simply not as deep as people want it to be. Again grotesque creature replicated a cheer leader to the best of it's mundane abilities, f the people trying to make it transphobic and people talking about it will only make it worse. People get off on the disdain of others if it's their doing.
"it is true that you can express [your identity] in DBD, that doesn't mean you must"
"If [you] don't express [your identity] in [your] profile, skins, charms, etc, [you] are much less likely to be harassed."
Call me jaded, I almost certainly am, but these read to me as either words of ignorance or the words of hatred, and the overlap between the two is getting substantially smaller.
People have been actively making it into a problem, and I admit the very public reaction particularly on twitter has if anything made it worse and more out-there, but I don't think it's reasonable to read a complaint about someone being targeted for their identity, and for the first response to be "If you stopped displaying your identity as much, you wouldn't be harassed as much". It's placing the blame on the victim of harassment for being harassed, instead of on the perpetrator of the harassment. So again, either words of ignorance or words of hatred, and in 95% of circumstances there genuinely isn't a difference anymore.
-
Depends on the mood but usually I prefer blocking over regression just because having one gen get Pain Res'd three times and you've now got to work for a gen and three quarters to get one thing done makes me sad.

@purp1ehaze said:
I really can't understand why they would claim their gender identity on the games.
It is true that DbD has the items to express it, however, that does not mean it must express.
If they don't express this in their profile, skins, charms, etc., they are much less likely to be harassed.
Of course it is wrong to harass. But they should be able to defend themselves to avoid being harmed.
"Just get back in the closet and pretend that you're not lgbtq+ for the rest of the world because some bad actors hate you" do you understand how bad this sounds?

I agree completely, my friend.
Though it seems fine in terms of strength. At least for now, while people still don't know how to play against it.
just found out you can bounce projectiles off of the top of props on the map (like the cars on haddonfield) and honestly lobbing a bouncing ball that ends up hitting someone makes up for the fact that his kit couldve been better

okay but consider: bouncing things around walls and hitting people is funny and thats enough for me

As far as I know, yes! The voice actress for The Unknown is Zoey Alexandria and she voiced both male + female voice lines for The Unknown, so I can only assume that at least one of the skins will have them.

I mean at least their running the build people don't have as much of a problem with since it takes like 3 gens worth of time to get it. And theres more counterplay. Even if they rework tombstone piece i dont see them changing these.
iwl when any addon can facilitate this type of gameplay, especially when encouraged by an achievement, its just objectively not healthy for the game. both sides are bored and frustrated and it just encourages greater frustration and divide between an already split community.
i just dont like tombstone lol theyre very outdated

And on this episode of Myers' Tombstone add-ons are poorly designed and are screaming out for a rework:

I disagree. How is not fun storming survivors and eating their health state? His main event (which you will get almost every chase) is pretty fun to use.
Also I think he isn't low skill as someone could say. Just because he looks simple doesn't mean he is. You have to know where to use your power, where to cancel it, where not and still be somewhat precise, etc.
I get my fun from chases where both sides can have pretty equal skill expression and the better player wins. Trickster has little to no skill expression on either side - if you can aim, chases are determined based on map geometry. High walls, you stand a chance at having a fun time, low walls, you just auto win the chase within approximately 15 seconds.
I don't find auto-winning at anything particularly fun.

On topic:
I think a big reason why this offering was changed compared to other icons and even map specific things like the gallows is that these are completely avoidable by a player while a map offering will be thrown into your face. Not sure if that was part of the reason for the devs but I think that would be reasonable. Also I have never even seen anyone asking for or even demanding this to be changed. Definitely haven’t seen any ‚activism‘ regarding this
Absolutely this. This was a decision 100% brought on by the devs themselves, because I didn't see any criticism about it anywhere. If there was an influence it must have been very down-low because I heard absolutely nothing regarding it.
But it's not the first time this has happened. The Legion's blighted cosmetic used to have a weapon called the "Suicide Blade". This was changed before it hit live IIRC to the "Separation Blade" for this exact same reason.
I'm not convinced changing it to a broken glass bottle was the best course of action but I absolutely can see their reasoning behind making this change and honestly don't mind it. There are so many bigger things to worry about imo.

iwl I used to get away with just playing less, going weeks without opening it, until one day I got the DBD urge again and found it fun. It's gotten so bad recently that I've had to uninstall + hide it for the first time since I started playing, but I'm almost certain I'll be back.
Take a break. Take a long break. I've been playing the same game since 2017 when I was but a wee lad; 6-7 years of playing the same game over and over takes it's toll on anyone. Just hit pause, take a breather, come back when you're ready. It'll do wonders, trust me.
-
Remember how this last update we were meant to have the Swamp update and instead Ormond got glanced at and the newly uodated Roadmap doesn't even have swamp anywhere before next anni
-
I made the smarter choice I feel 🫶
-
Okay, give me one good reason why it shouldn't be in the game.
It should stay because:
- DBD is inherently a luck based game, where randomness is baked into every element of it, from map generation to skill checks. Giving the opportunity to 4% (which is just under 12% chance to escape per survivor iirc) not only increases the fun factor but increases this randomness. If you don't want to play a game where random chance can swing a game, don't play dbd.
- Killer is piss easy right now. So easy I get bored. You mean to tell me we fought through double pallets, pallet vacuum, old DH, DH valedation, window vacuum, literal infinites on every map, no entity blocker, literally triple the pallets, literally double the map sizes, old BNP, old old BNP, old COH, old SB, no Exhaustion, no slowdown besides Ruin, being unable to regress gens, 60 second gens, etc etc. and the best we can complain about now is a four percent chance?! Girl be so for real right now
- It realistically isn't a "second chance". Sure, if you squint and stretch that definition as far as it can go, it's a second chance, but by that very stretched definition:
- Head on is a second chance perk because you should've been grabbed from the locker.
- MedKits are second chance items because you should stay injured
- PGTW/PR are second chance perks because you should just kick the gen normally
- Deadlock/GE are second chance perks because you gain more time you wouldn't normally have
- Balanced Landing is a second chance perk, the stagger exists for a reason
- Billy's Overdrive is a second chance mechanic, you get rewarded for overrevving
- Pig's boxes are second chance mechanics, you get rewarded for losing gens
And so I hope you'll see that by this very liberally applied definition of "second chance" we can classify a lot of things as a second chance, which sort of waters down any impact the phrase may have.
-
Realistically, there are only 2 ways I could see it being useful.
Speed up invocation time (massively) or have it lock in all current gen progress, including the added charges from the invocation.

@GoodBoyKaru I just did! But I can’t find the receipts for these chapters on my Microsoft account as they were bought a few years back and by someone else using the account, on Xbox everything is shared if both accounts are logged in so I didn’t buy them in my account but had access to them because the other one was signed in so idk
Ideally they'd (either support, really) be able to see you've got progress on those characters, especially with achievements prestige etc, and get it sorted. Best of luck soldier

Yeah but why even get riled up over it before the Chapter has even launched. I’ve been seeing people on X and TikTok calling it “unacceptable” and accusing BHVR of “appropriation” and we don’t even know what the Chapter is yet…
Fair enough if the Chapter were to launch and it was something flagrantly offensive — then Tweet (Xpress?) all you like. But I just think it’s so needlessly negative to kick up concerns before the Chapter is even out.
To that, I don't have an answer. I can speculate of course - likely due to serious mishanding of their culture and related elements in the past, and the insensitive nature with which it's still talked about and depicted today - but as I'm not a part of that culture and just commenting on what I've seen I can't actually give you a definitive why.

If I ask nicely maybe I won't be so licenced fatigue and they'll take a leaf out of Paladins' (of all games) book and focus on balacing and helping to expand on all the old content instead of constantly pumping out more new content
But idk, give us another Felix skin and ignore solo for another few years.

I haven't posted one in a while but I certainly used to use them a load and never had something happen. Unless there's been a mod reshuffle recently there's been a precedent for them being a-okay.

It's worth mentioning though, that at this point, the 'monster in the woods' style creature isn't a Wendigo. By which I mean, there's so many iterations of creepy, youtube-style horror series with weird humanoid monsters all with their own stories and backgrounds etc.
It's irritating that every time something vaguely down that line comes up we get the "that thing is nothing like our myths, but also, that's ours and you can't use it!"
They can have their culture, but they don't have ownership over the idea of humanoid monsters in the forest, whether they can shapeshift, become animals, or eat people. If something is so far apart from what their myths are that they are upset over it not being right, then drop it, it's not that creature so it's not your concern.
"If something is so far apart from what their myths are that they are upset over it not being right, then drop it, it's not that creature so it's not your concern."
I believe the main concern that I've seen was it would be named the same while not being similar enough, which was sort of a double whammy of problems. It would mention the names that realistically shouldn't be mentioned while not being respectful or accurate to the relevant cultures.
Keeping this only around DBD, I didn't even see criticism, just concern. Concern which was swiftly abated when BHVR responded that they would not, in fact, bastardise the myths and would give the killer its own separate (maybe related, maybe not, we will see soon) name, looks, and stories. And I am happy with this because BHVR's original chapters almost always are excellent in terms of themeing, story, etc. Plague, Trickster, and Dredge are all fantastic, and even Knight has some pretty good things going on. Hell, Mid Merchant has some decent lore and themeing going on.
Apologies for the rant, but I had to do something instead of listening to this lecture.

Meanwhile when playing as survivor maps will consistently spawn approximately 3 pallets, all of which will be instantly thrown by the one random with about 50 minutes playtime that's in this lobby for one reason or another.

By that logic no-one could use or reference anything anywhere because someone somewhere would find a way to be offended or sensitive about it for whatever reason. Reminds me of the 90s when Christians wanted to ban doom and Harry Potter because it had demons/magic in it. Absolutely silly.
There's a difference between appreciation and appropriation. When the myths are incredibly clear that the creature should not be mentioned, to the point where certain people within a culture will refuse to tell the stories, write them down, or be anywhere near a retelling because of their beliefs, I'd say you should respect that.
There are other cultures which are substantially more open than indigenous culture, and I agree with BHVR in respecting the more closed, private nature of it.
Someone, somewhere, will always be offended by something. But you must see that turning a creature some refuse to even acknowledge for fear of bad fortune into a basterdised Internet atrocity for a horror game that'll be forgotten in a few months in liu of the latest licenced chapter or big anniversary is not quite the same as that.

If someone doesn't want to play, they're going to find a different way to sandbag. I can promise removing the ability to hook suicide doesn't fix this issue, it just shifts the problem elsewhere. Instead they should look at why people do this and making the gameplay experience better - something they've resolved to not do by killing the casual experience through MMR + solo queue apparently.

Yes and yes. Because nobody uses it anymore, people don't expect it, and so haven't yet learned to wait 11 seconds before hitting to see if they're still moving quicker or not. It allows you to make risk(ier) plays knowing you can rely on your own perks, unlike OTR and DS which you can't tell if people are running or not, and it works on all unhooks including in endgame. But because it also works beforehand too it's a lot less situational than every other perk and still as strong as it ever was.
It's absolutely worth running in any build you've got space for it.

I'd concede if we got to keep Head On on a regular 40 second cooldown.
