Unless you have a pallet nearby Bubba can still down you on self unhook - They can catch up after the first hit very easily.

I remember reading that there was supposed to be an immunity but the rare circumstances I've gotten to try anti camp the protection doesn't save you.

Can bubba still catch up? I know last I tested bubba can easily chase you down through endurance. Especially with his new basekit he probably will be able to.

still beats not getting a chance at all.

  • …if you didn't stand right behind him, you might have given the survivor a chance to unhook themselves.

  • F13 - too slow on content updates, limited freedom of what that content could be, and got hard screwed by the license dispute. The fact that Jason was killable also turned the very premise on its head, making him the victim to be sought out and killed.

VHS - arguably had the best run of them all. To its credit, it was fairly simple to understand, and had every opportunity to be something unique. But the dev team was too small, there was no community management at all. The devs created an echo chamber of “positive rewinders” which stifled any and all negative feedback. The closed beta lasted WAY too long, meaning that once it did come out, the playerbase was already too good at the game for any new players to come aboard smoothly. Maps weren’t randomised in any way, meaning that every map played the same way. Monster was too weak…

Last Year: Not sure what really “killed” this one, insofar as I don’t remember anything specific. It never really saw any traction, I suppose.

RE: Resistance: Arguably the most unique take on the genre, and it had a lot of potential. But there was barely any dev support after Nikolai was added. I don’t think Capcom had any real plans for it to begin with. IIRC, there were also a lot of cheaters.

Evil Dead: Lack of dev support, and even less marketing. ED never breached containment, so to speak. After Baal, there didn’t seem to be any plans for new content either.

TCM: Not dead yet, to its credit. They went the route of making original characters, which is already a massive up over their previous game, F13. I personally think this one is hampered by how clunky it can feel to play, which is mostly due to the healthbar system a lot of these games use. It’s not hit = damaged, it’s wail on the character model until down. There were also a lot of ways to stun and incapacitate family members, which you really cannot have in the phase of the game’s life were you most desperately need the game to feel smooth for both sides.

Deathgarden: Too little to the main gameplay loop. I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I just thought it looked a bit boring?

Magic can be hella scary I mean Hag's lore is pretty decent. And she didn't kill because of the manga she killed because she wanted to get rid of competition and sees everyone else as beneath her so much so that their lives are toys she just used the Skull Merchant moniker based on her dads manga which manga can also have some pretty strong horror so?

My complaint is that its a mystical wizard from an RPG tabletop fantasy game casting wacky and zany spells against an elf who plays instruments.

At some point you have to acknowledge that you’re simply not engaged with the horror of the D&D chapter. The chapter was never going to work for you because of that. That’s fair, but you’re just gatekeeping at this point.

  • Crow Country!

    IMG_9820.jpeg

It’s an indie horror game inspired by Silent Hill, with very retro aesthetics. It came out a week or two ago.

  • thankfully it’s not poisonous to birds (apart from maybe excessively salty bread). But it’s not particularly nutritious either. Wild birds (all wild animals, really) tend to scarf down whatever they can find, so if they fill themselves with bread they leave little room for the stuff they need to, y’know, survive.

It’s fine occassionally, just remember to give ‘em other stuff like nuts and even fruit as well.

…funny how that’s analogous to us humans.

  • They'll likely drop come Friday.

Not trying to burst your bubble but I think the devs stated that all general perks were once teachables from survivors (or I guess killers) that are now in the void. So I think it’s not supposed to be Meg. Also possibly the same survivor for ‚This is not happening‘

I can see the resemblance to Meg though, especially in the expression on the Resilience icon

I think this is more of a case of all characters having 5 teachables before the game went open beta. You can see a fair few traces of that in the general perks, ie., Meg with Resilience and This is Not Happening and Wraith with Unrelenting. Some more out-there guesses would be Iron Grasp for Trapper, Sloppy for Billy, etc.

I think there's even a few that would've been part of later characters' sets, like Whispers & Bitter Murmur for Nurse and Spine Chill for Nea. Hag, who was first conceived as the 2nd killer (thus replacing Wraith) could maybe have had Thrill of the Hunt and NOED? Ace could've had Plunderer's, and maybe og Slippery Meat, since those are both luck-related.

Lorewise, you might be right though.

    Hello hi, Fridge here

If you've been around the forums for a while, you'll undoubtedly have seen me go on about birds.

I can unabashedly hijack threads to talk about crows, pigeons, parrots, puffins, any bird goes (even some fictional ones!)

So, in an almost certainly futile attempt to stop myself from doing that (the hijacking thing), I'll be making this thread instead.

Starting with our Lord and Saviour, Rainbow Birb, aka., the Feathers of Pride Bird!

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/2JQ5KUR9HHE4/image.png

Obtainable in DbD for free right now by using the code "CAWCAW" in the in-game store!

A bit of a personal story here. It turned out a bit longer than expected whoops.

This lovely fellow released on June 8th, 2022, near the end of the academic year. At this time, I was still in university, English Language & Culture. 2022 had been kind of a shite year for me up until then, in hindsight. I had something of a mental breakdown in January, induced by my complete inability to plan out things (I have been diagnosed with ASD in December of 2020) and getting overwhelmed with deadlines. I tried getting back into therapy to see if I could learn some kind of "lifehack" or whatever. They did offer some things I don't remember, but the main takeaway from them was that I needed to inquire at uni itself. There's a student psychologist, but contacting them became part of the "I'll get to it eventually". I never did end up contacting them.

Now, very early on in the academic year of 2021/2022, we had a course that was all about writing academic English. It covered all kinds of writing, including translating, from Dutch to English. It was a single assignment, but unlike every other assignment, I went through this one at rocket speed. Shocked at my own sudden capability at Doing a Thing, I quickly realised that I really enjoyed translating. In what I can only describe as a paradigm shift, my "intrinsic motivator", as my therapist called it, was discovered. I wanted to become a translator. That was my end goal. That's why I did this study. It would be nothing short of a battle, but there was a goal in sight.

It... didn't work out that way.

After the advise of a student councillor, I tried to do less courses in the next semester to "ease the load". A whopping 5 courses, out of the standard 8, or even 9 I should've done to keep up, but that didn't fare much better. I got sick with COVID on my birthday of all days. I could barely work up the motivation to attend hallway nights anymore. That, of course, became something of a cycle. I wound up flunking or even skipping those courses as well thanks to a complete and utter lack of motivation (but not without a crippling feeling of guilt :) )

Come April/May, I shifted into an even worse version of the "do what you can" mode to try to salvage anything. I wound up salvaging 1 course, and another one that had a weird deadline that allowed me to extend it into the summer break.

I didn't tell a soul how bad things were going. Not my friends, my hallmates, my mother. It was always "could be better", and for most, that sufficed. I shudder to think how many sleepless nights my mother had because of me, though. I never explicitly told her what was happening, always "I can manage". And, somehow, I believed that myself.

What I really needed was a goddamn break. No deadlines, no assignments. Nothing.

And then Rainbow Bird released. To me, out of nowhere.

There was something about that day. I don't know if it was the sun shining or whatever, but for the first time in over half a year, I was really happy about something. Specifically, something that made me happy. Here, on the forums, I got really excited about a silly colourful bird. Now, birds have been my weakness for some time, but for the first time in my life, I felt completely unashamed about it, because I was just that excited. For the first time in forever, I wasn't holding myself back because of some arbitrary self-imposed rule or because I trying to adhere to a persona. And people got excited with me, and started posting more birds. Because of me. That thread was a dumpster fire, but I couldn't care less. I got to be really passionate about birds, and people humoured and appreciated that. I specifically got tagged in the very important Cute Animal Thread a bit later, with a bird pic, because I was being myself. I don't think tippy has even the slightest inkling how important it was to me that he said "I remember someone saying they like birds", and I could go "me!" and not be ashamed of it, because yes, I do like birds!

That whole event kickstarted something within me. I started following bird accounts on other platforms, and started manureposting using our friend Rainbow Birb, because I wanted to do that, and it made me happy, made me smile, all that cringe stuff. I started to do things for me.

Going back to my academic... "career", summer break came. And there still was that one assignment. Deadline: the very last day of August. Assignment: a 2.5k word essay on "sustainability", using two very old American works of literature.

That deadline was so, so bad for me. For the entirety of the summer break, that deadline was on my mind. What should've been the time that I had absolutely nothing to worry about, instead became a very long period where that ######### assignment was on my mind every waking hour. For starters, it was boring as all get out. The works didn't interest me in the slightest, didn't even relate to the study (I did English, not American), and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the hell I was supposed to do.

But I had 2 months. Two whole months. It would be so, so laughably pathetic of me if I couldn't get that assignment done, when I had 2 months to do it, and literally nothing but the assignment to do. I did get it done, but my god those last two weeks weren't pretty. There's a different, smaller story there, but that's for another time.

I went into the new academic year already feeling like shite because of that 1 assignment. "Hope you're all refreshed and ready to go!" Hahah, I certainly wasn't.

I once again tried the "reduced load" approach. Once again, it culminated into 2 essay deadlines and 2 exams, the former being precisely what I wanted to avoid.

The first essay was already a slog, but surprisingly manageable, because I got to do it about a topic of my choosing (FoMO, specifically prompted by DbD's limited-time winter skin debacle). I didn't even bother with the other essay for the "new" course, because I really wanted to pass the courses I was retaking. There'd be a resit anyway. As for the exams, I passed one.

And then, one fateful morning in February, I found myself asking a simple question.

    "Is this worth it?"

and the answer was a resounding no.

Yes, I still wanted to become a translator, but no, this is not worth it.

In arguably the biggest decision of my life so far, I chose for myself.

Because that's what I have been doing since June of 2022. I ignored the councillor's advice, and went with what I thought was manageable. I did that assignment in the summer break, because I would not have been able to do it at all had I not gone out of my way to request that third opportunity. And I passed the course because of that.

I started choosing for myself more and more, culminating in me putting and end to the cycle that made me so miserable.

    And what started that trend?

The release of the Feathers of Pride charm. That moment where I was able to be myself, which allowed me to realise that I, in fact, do not have to maintain a persona to be happy.

Why am I trying to achieve academic prowess? Who am I trying to please? Myself? Why's that abstract me so hellbent on doing the very things that are making me miserable? I will have to do some sort of higher education if I want to become a translator, but I can make my life so much easier by switching to a dedicated translating course, instead of a uni study where translating is a very small part of it.

By now, I'm half a year into my new translating study, I have yet to fail an exam, all my assignments were on time and all but 1 were graded superbly. I'm doing fantastic and feel great. I've still got quite a few bad habits to kick, but we'll get there.

    So, uh... Yeah.

That's why I'm so very fond of Rainbow Bird.

More (real) bird talks coming soon!

  • These forums are for the “Core” Dead by Daylight, ie., PC and Console.

We have very little to do with the Mobile version of the game. For that matter, it’s by a different studio as well, so even if a dev reads your feedback they won’t be able to use it.

  • Ideally everything appears in the store at some point.

  • Plague and Pig are arguably the ones that ‘deserve’ a new theme the most.

  • @ShowNoMercy said:

…Didn't you start another thread ~20 minutes ago that specifically stated you were sick of licenses?

As for the question… I like the concept of Singularity (although his lore is contradictory). The whole robot-killer niche is kinda already filled by him. That said, I wouldn't say no to Terminator. Not too familiar with the other ones.

  • The Fog Whisperers, to my knowledge, have always been ambassadors for the game, and not so much consultants as the program that got revealed now. Fog Whisperers are essentially just the faces of the community at large, whereas consultants are (or were) more in the background.

    too modest, my friend.

Players of all skill levels are needed, not only the extremes! And you are definitely one of the few on here to be and stay reasonable and capable of constructive feedback.

also it’s cruel to withhold this charm from you.

The discussions that typically go on here would have me believe otherwise, but I appreciate the vote of confidence!

Still, though, Peanits clearly said that players are approached by BHVR, not the other way round.

  • @Mooks said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3728422#Comment_3728422

we should start a petition to get Fridge into the program!

I'd be honoured, but I'm fairly certain there's other forum users who'd be vastly better consultants than me. I'm very 'slightly-above-average' when it comes to DbD, so I'm not exactly a good representative of highly skilled players, or lesser skilled players.

  • A lot of games tend to be called "genrushes", typically because of a bad first chase. If you're unlucky, you might see 3 gens pop at roughly the same time. That's not really genrushing, so much as the survivors not having anything else to do.

That said, there's also the 4-man premades bringing toolboxes, hyperfocus, streetwise and whatnot… That might well be defined as a genrush, as they quite literally play the game to see the gens fly.

  • A lot of horror requries you to be engaged with the horror in order to be scared by it. A lot of fiction in general requires engagement to be effective. If you can't be bothered to muster that up, then it's going to be lost on you regardless.

Also DnD is guaranteed to bring people into DbD. It's a massive name.

  • Hm.

    Well.

I don't have any strong opinions about the program, so long as they have input from various kinds of players and not just CC's.

    But the crow charm…

    Now that one stings.

  • @Garboface said:

I love the mode but my only complaint is there needs to be one extra perk for both roles that inhibits gen rush and tunneling.

Both sides of this coin can be very bad. I had a spirit faze directly to the hook every unhook. I can put in the usual complaints about such but bleh...you get the idea.

I don't think you'd want an extra perk slot to do that.

We need a robust, base system that prevents tunnelling from being so effective.

  • @TheArbiter said:

Pretty sure that is the exclusive dev badge and banner? So that is either a dev or a hacker, so let's be real it was probably a hacker

    This is actually a dev.

They have recorded playtime of The Casting of Frank Stone on Steam.

  • I went to Gas Heaven twice in a row a few days ago. There's definitely something up.

  • I would have said The Evil Within

but microsoft closed the studio for no reason
    rip

  • It might reappear in the store at some point, likely around Halloween if it does.

    Wouldn’t count on it, though.

  • I'm playing him as part of my main rotation.

Haven't seen him as survivor much, though.

  • Excuse you, those are crickets.

    Muting birds would be heresy.

Besides, the only birds in the Entity’s realm are crows and vultures.

  • Maybe a stupid question but…

Doesn't DbD itself also do this?

I’ll try again after work. Maybe it was just acting weird cuz I had the PTB installed

I'm guessing you need to log in on the live branch to claim items.

The PTB is a bit funky in that it uses an outdated version of your account, and doesn't save to your main account.

    Nurse

    Hag

    Doctor

    Huntress

are all free on Xbox & PlayStation, I believe Switch has even more free non-licensed chapters too.

Hag too, huh? Never knew that.

All the same, the 5 in this mode are the ones available from the get-go to all players.

  • well we know what the august one is.

I haven't seen the stream so I'm only getting infomation about it from here. I figured it was the Game Mode but then it was stated it was for customs. So I thought it was a modifier.

So, if we are back to it being a Game Mode. Where is my Kill With Friends option?

I'd recommend taking a look at GBK's summary thread. He explained it much better than I ever could.

(I'd link it but the rich text massively exceeds the max character length, for some reason.)

  • @Mr_K said:

The lights out was public. So 2v8 is a customs modifier. Then why do they need to disable killers?

This is considered a "mode" and not a "modifier". A "mode" seems to mean a completely different set of rules, opposed to 'simply' messing with the main game in some ways.

The way killers are programmed, it's entirely possible that there's gonna be some wild interactions between powers. As in, crashes galore.

For that matter, Freddy was disabled for Lights Out, and Oni was the only killer available for My Little Oni. The latter was perhaps a thematic choice, but I doubt the same goes for Freddy.
