  • Ugh, Surveillance made us all go "######### is this?" when it was released

  • Hell, now that I think of it, my first Rank 1 was Myers. And I'm usually down in the purple ranks with the Doc before I lose my cool and put the game down.

I never said what that partner was either.

I've got 800 hours into this game and I play both sides. I've also owned the game since The Last Breath chapter. Yes, I'm 100% sure about this.

I use Distressing myself in my default Doctor build - it's already plenty strong. And it's arguably strong on most of the other killers as long as you don't end up on the top 3 largest maps as the increased terror radius makes it much harder to pinpoint the killer's location.

I didn't argue that FireUp was underwhelming

Spies From The Shadows actually used to be meta before it took a hit - and it never had auras. It can be made great again.

Thanaphobia used to be extremely powerful before it got kicked in the balls along with every other nerf we saw to the Nurse and her perks. It never was looked at again. It was indeed too powerful back then. It's meh, but not terrible in the state it's in now. If it's going to be buffed, it should be buffed slowly and in increments so we don't get the monstrosity we had when it was first released.

Unrelenting is meant to be a perk newbie killers pick up then put down once they learn the game. it's plenty strong and serves it's purpose.

Most of this game's problems stem from the safe loops and pallets. Some of this has already been addressed and what's left is being worked on. With shorter and better chases coming, it seems silly to consider buffing perks that are arguably mostly okay until after we see what an effect these changes have on the game.

  • It's also possible the actual hit detection frame is done just before the killer's forward momentum is stopped by the window sill which further creates the illusion on top of the latency. Unfortunately, that's just a guess on my part based on what little the devs have told us the how the hit detection works.

  • I would say his entry level or skill floor is lower than most of the harder killers, but he still has a higher skill CAP than most. that might be what you are experiencing.

  • Beast of Prey should just activate when Bloodlust does, we're on the same page there

Distressing is fine as it is. It's currently a staple of many Docs

    Fire Up does need love

Spies From The Shadows justs more distance, the auras are unnecessary.

Thana is.... well... just slightly weak. Buff it's base stats and do nothing else.

Unrelenting is fine as it is.

  • I play both sides and will always defend a killer. Hell, last game I played a couple days ago the cries of "Camper" came out. You know what I said?

"The generators were done, what else can you expect him to do at that point?"

This of course got me cussed at - which I'm used to. Afterall, I started this game as a killer main, I have a thick skin for it now. Not to say this game doesn't get to me from time to time (I had a ragequit for the first time in weeks earlier this week) - but there's no reason to add to it.

If the game gets you so mad you have to berate a fellow human being, do yourself a favor and turn it off. You're likely too tilted to be of any good in the next game anyway. Turn it off, grab your favorite snack or beverage, watch a movie, or jump your partner for a roll in the sheets - find your happy place that doesn't involve DBD for a bit.

  • You sure somebody isn't running a "Stealth Billy" build? (File + Muffler addins)

Every billy I've faced this week has had normal sound so far.

  • If you can't figure out how to counter BBQ and Chili, then you need to just get better as a survivor.

First off, you need to be 40meters out to even be picked up, and that distance is pretty substantial (outside every killer's default terror radius). For most killers, that's more than enough time for you to have moved elsewhere.

Second off, you can hide behind generators. in fact, they recently changed the survivor auras to blend in better with the generators - making this a viable counter.

Thirdly, you have a pretty good idea where the killer is going to hook the guy unless they're actually using knock out. So you call already pre-prepare yourself for the actual hook by putting obstacles in your way or find a generator to hide behind.

Fourth, you can game the perk either by hanging just inside the edge of where you won't be seen (40 meters is a large area you can hide in) or not telegraph which direction you are heading in during the duration of the perk.

Stop trying to get the best anti-camp perk we have nerfed, this is ridiculous as hell - you have plenty of way to play around it!

  • Bloody Butcher and Bloodhound are already being looked at

Huntress Lullaby is fine (works especially well with the Doc), it's just hexes are generally too easy to find. Fix that and all hex perks will see more use.

Brutal Strength is also fine. Loops just need more work in general, that's a current work in progress by the devs last I heard.

Beast of Prey just needs to be active as long as Bloodlust is active and it will be a viable perk.

Bloodwarden should just be in effect as long as somebody is on a hook, period.

Knock Out is fine as it is.

Overcharge is fine as it is. It works especially well when paired with Pop Goes The Weasel.

Predator is already being changed - it's going to narrow the spread of the scratch-marks while increasing their density to make the path easier to follow.

Stridor - haven't used it in awhile, so I have no opinion of it.

  • The irony of complaining of Gambling with an Ace avatar.....

You know the timer pauses while you are being chased, right? So what's the problem?

  • Sounds like an old botter coming back to the game but doesn't realize his bot doesn't work anymore.

They used to be a thing a long time ago - but BE was really good about making them extinct.

  • No quarter asked, none given.

If I wanted to farm, I'd be in Starview Valley, not here.

  • @Cetren said:
Anything done to deliberately ruin the fun of another player or mock them without any real game play advantage for yourself. Like teabagging. Or smacking people on the hook.

This is perfect, especially the part that says without any real game play advantage for yourself. Flashlight Saves are not toxic, body blocking a hook is not toxic, body blocking the basement to wait out a Borrowed Time timer is not toxic. The key part here is that the behavior in question has to actually be helping you in some way to achieve victory in the game.

  • While you're at it, you might want to check out the drops that occur when you get near the Doctor's office in Lery's Memorial.

  • You are in a Peer to Peer networked game where the host is the killer. Because of how such an architecture works, the killer's game-state is always a step or two ahead of yours. On his end, the hit was legit, you just got the update after the fact.

You can only smoke and mirrors the flaws of internet multiplayer so much before it breaks down at some point, and this is one of them.

  • @The_Manlet said:
The Pig just needs a few quality of life improvements, reworks to her addons (with some of them becoming baseline) and the Sprint Burst nerf. She doesn't need a big change to how her power works.

Exactly. I think Bricky said it best in his own video - Her concept is solid and there's nothing inherently wrong with her kit - she just needs a few numbers tweaked.

  • This is just bad overall and kills her overall feel. The idea is that completing generators screws your teammates over as it starts their timer. I mean, are you even aware how Jigsaw's traps worked in the movies?

The problem most people don't consider when they start talking about the timer is they don't take into account that abominations like Swamp and Asylum exist. Those two monster maps are the reason they have to keep the timer so long. If those maps weren't so huge, they'd have the freedom to lower the timer.

  • You say ranks don't matter, but you fail to effectively demonstrate why. Because ranks reset? So what? Rank 1 is still a rank 1, and will continue to get rank 1 every season. Game plays considerably different in the brown and yellow ranks, than it does in the green and purple ranks, and and different in the red ranks. Sure you'll get those odd games where people are out of their ranks, but people who know the game will be there season in and season out.

Only argument you really make about ranks not meaning anything is the Emblem system. But how? You say it's too easy? Because you just get it for playing it? Well, that's how ELO and MMR works - you just play normally and your wins and losses determines your score. You don't effectively prove why the emblem system fails.

All this just to say your Hag is stronger than most people say.

    Okay then....

Hag is likely stronger than most people give her credit, I'll give you that. But I would still rank her lower than Nurse, Huntress and Billy for a very simple reasons.... those three can call upon their powers AT WILL whereas Hag has to spend time setting up her power. I won't deny she can stop a loop if you plan ahead and herd correctly (just like the trapper), but to compare her to the Nurse is just silly when a nurse can call upon the power without any preparation other than practice (Which in your own words, you have to practice the Hag as well)

Of all the changes I'm looking forward to with the Hag, the one I want to see is the faster trapping time. This will shorten her prep time and give me some freedom to set traps mid-chase when the survivor can't see me behind a wall or rock. But she will still be substandard to the nurse as she requires prep time, you can never get around that.

All and all, a poorly constructed argument.

  • I dealt with coms being in that trash known as F13, I don't want to see it here.

  • Look, I get it the dodges suck as it's happened to me for just putting TTV in my name (a practice I've stopped for both those reasons and tunneling/sandbagging reasons).

I have 800 hours in this game now, it's my second most played game. And one things that's always been constant - Killer gameplay is a much bigger chore to play than survivor. And some nights, you just want to get your murder on without having to deal with 100 loops and endless flashlights. I can take a loss as much as much as the next guy. Hell, I've had some jukes pulled on me that I have nothing but respect for.

But as I progress through the ranks and hit the green ranks - the game changes drastically and my game time as killer drops.

And it's not that I'm not up for the challenge - it's just that I know how much easier it is for the survivor (I play both sides now), and it just sucks knowing I'm putting out more effort than they are.

Instead of punishing the dodgers, perhaps we should be looking at the reasons WHY so many killers dodge?

    Just sayin'......

Well, I get dodged just for having cosmetics or bringing an item to a match to a point where it's so bad that I don't bring things to the match while using cosmetics, so... Some people dodge because they're looking for exclusively easy matches instead of just playing the game. I've seen a lot of people on forums openly admit to doing exactly that, too. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Ah, but why are they avoiding this challenge?

I'll fill it in - the high-end game for the killer is pretty vicious. You need an abnormally thick skin to deal with co-ordinated survivors. Most people don't have that.

so perhaps the question we should be asking instead of punishing people for avoiding this... what can we do to make it less frustrating but keep the challenge?

  • Regarding Tunneling - Wither or not I do so depends on the situation. If the game is early and I'm not feeling generator pressure, I'd rather go after the other guy as I'm often running BBQ and Chili and want the tokens. If the guy does it right under my nose, I'll smack the guy who got unhooked to punish the hook farm (you lose benevolence if the guy you rescued is down in less than 10 seconds). If by returning to the hook I see the wounded guy making a break for it but don't see the guy who did the rescue, then I'm naturally going to tunnel as I'd rather keep my momentum than lose time looking for somebody. Most people who get tunneled are usually tunneled due to the actions of the survivors, not by a conscious decision on my part.

Regarding Camping - Not camping lets me pull 3 people off gens if I have somebody to chase. However, I refuse to be treated by an ######### and will not take bait I have no chance of catching. You want to pull me from the hook? Then risk your skin instead of standing behind a pallet 30 meters away. Is the gate open? Then you're going to have to get friends to help because I don't have generators to defend at that point. I'm a person, not an AI. I will move when I feel it's in MY best interest to do so, not yours. You are my adversary, I am not here to win popularity contests, I'm here to destroy you just as it's your job to stop me by any means necessary.

people need to stop living by imaginary rules and play to win - or go play something else.

  • Instead of punishing the dodgers, perhaps we should be looking at the reasons WHY so many killers dodge?

    Just sayin'......

  • Oh look, it's this suggestion........ AGAIN

I swear, we need a cut and paste as to how this was tried and it failed miserably.

  • Yes, we get it the console peasants are unhappy.

I have a nice pitchfork you can have on the cheap if you like.

  • Doctor - for sure.
Pig or Myers when I need to change things up.

  • I'm doing my usual stream with the usual 2 regulars. I was survivor and had rolled Lery's as our map.

I was answering a question from one of the viewers as a meg quietly stepped out a locker. I interrupted my distracted chain of thought to say "Hi Meg" just as I triggered a hag trap....

For months, the guys would never let me live that down - they always entered the stream saying "Oh hi meg OMFG JESUS CHRIST!!"

I kinda wish they had clipped that to be honest. I'm just glad I didn't have the camera back then. I nearly fell out of my chair from that scare.

  • You don't HAVE to, it's just easier if you do.

Hell, I can point you to a Trapper Main that's rank 1 every season. And if I'm not mistaken, BigBlackMori mained Myers and he was always rank 1 as well.

It can be done, it's just harder.

  • Wraith's defense is better than Freddy's, their chase is about the same IMO. Wraith can at least camp a hook if he needs to (and even nullify Borrowed Time) Freddy has no way defend hooks, gens, or totems effectively. For this reason, I consider Wraith the better killer for now.

If the devs actually go through with making it so that people transitioning to the dream state cannot do channeling actions like unhooks, heals, gens, or totems; my opinion will change.

  • Could also be a slightly weak processor. Computer needs processor time in order to process your network packets.

The chase itself usually creates more calculations for your game to process per second, so it may be bottlenecking just enough to starve the network packets.

Not sure why anybody would lagswitch in this game - chasing lagging survivors is a PITA

  • I prefer MnA in the build as his wallhack is based on his terror radius. Making it smaller between chases makes relocating people in the dream easier.

  • Doc - He's my main man. I liked him at first because of the maniacal laughs and giggles - but it became more after I got to know how to play him. With him I can force early pallet drops and pressure those cocky ######### who sit within my terror radius trying to heal. I get a great deal of guilty pleasure screwing up people's skill checks and slowing them down. Yes, please disconnect from my game weakling, you are just handing me the power I want. Facing him? I consider it a professional challenge to try and best a fellow doc.

Nurse - I don't have the mechanical skill to play her, but most days I relish the unique challenge she is to face.

Hag - I actually hate the hag. I hate playing her, I hate facing her. Too easy to loop, and her jump scares are bad for the heart.

Billy - I like his mobility, but find him boring to play. He's one I have a lot of trouble facing and would rather avoid if I can.

Wraith - He was my first, and I'd like to play him again one day. I've always been fond of Stealth play.

Myers - I'm actually thinking of Prestiging him soon. There's just something so pure about how he plays. And most people (myself included) enjoy getting owned by him.

Leatherface - He's one I go to if I want to turn my brain off for a bit because his kit is really simplistic. Facing him is usually pretty easy.

Freddy - I'd like to use him more, but his defense is weak. I'm one of the few people that likes facing him - but I'm usually running Premonition and good headphones so I can pinpoint where he is.

Clown - Don't like his voice, but his mechanic is interesting. I see myself playing a lot of him in the future.

Trapper - I haven't touched him in forever. Last time I played him regularly, Infinites were still a thing. I played him to close those infinites. I did enjoy coming up with creative places to put traps though. Trapper is a killer I enjoy facing, even when I go through that window that's always trapped (And I usually laugh at myself for it)

  • I don't think it's abandoned yet, I think it has at least 1 more year in it. I can't comment beyond that.

I see assertations that the game has been abaondoned because their customer support is slow. What you don't realize is that their customer support has always been slow - from day 1. You can't use that as evidence that they have abandoned the game. It's a shameful blemish on this company for sure, but not evidence it's been abandoned.

Game's player count (At least on Steam https://steamcharts.com/app/381210#All) is still healthy and has been stable for months - and it spikes with every new chapter paid or otherwise. Judging by the new killers and survivors I see with every update, this tells me people are paying into it. Game's most expensive parts have been built - adding new content at this point should have a reasonably low overhead. This also means it can run with a lean team and still be profitable.

As for them showing up with Streamers - BE from day 1 has always leveraged the streamer and YT community - and it's worked well for them. Why wouldn't they do that for their new game? And why not use the big DBD streamers? It seems logical that anybody who plays DBD "might" like DG (I'm sitting out on this one myself - it looks like a huge PITA to hit runners in that game)

Do most games have a life cycle of 2 years? Sure, the average would be that low - considering how the AAA industry drives that average way down with the garbage they've put out lately.

At any rate, this game has another year in it I think. Sure BE has a lot of room for improvement (they do make a lot of rookie mistakes) - but given I just rolled over 800 hours in this game, I can forgive them.

  • Unfortunately just upping the time is going to screw with the lower tiers of the game terribly - which are already FUBAR for the survivors.

  • That's not a QOL change, that's a straight up nerf.

You don't even know what QOL means

  • We are talking about the same console that blocked fortnight accounts.....

Such a shame - I was a rabid Sony Fanboy years ago. How far they've fallen lately.

I won't sully my house with another Playstation until they get off this cross-play high-horse.

  • I truly don't think these changes will make Lithe or BL useless. I mean, sure you have to give up the ability to sprint for a time after you lose the killer so you can get it back, but most of that time is going to be built back up doing a generator anyway. The perks in question are still holding their core strength - the ability trigger a sprint more or less on command while retaining the ability to traverse the map quickly without fear of accidentally activating the perk when it's ready.

Keep in mind, these perks can be given shorter cooldowns to compensate. I frankly don't think this is going to be that big of a deal.

  • And now we've devolved. Had to happen eventually I guess.

  • I adore that he's a walking meme machine - and he's not even trying. It just happens.

It takes a real meme god to do that.

I hated B&C at first as I didn't quite understand it. now i'm not bothered by it at all, nor nurses calling which is equally as powerful. I don't agree with Scratched Mirror Myers tho - that ######### Is broken :chuffed:

which is funny because Scratched Mirror really isn't that good on most maps.

  • I've suggested option 3 several times actually

  • How about you don't give them a reason to dodge in the first place?

Hell, you'll never see me use a Flashlight if somebody else has one in the lobby. I never use TTV in my name anymore as well for the same reason.

Or hell, if I see certain names I'll dump the lobby because the name they use tells me the type of person they are and they're not somebody I wish to play with.

If you don't like that, you can kiss my ass.

  • @No_Cluie_Louis said:

People have pity and feel bad for the survivor being camped for no reason. Sure, the survivors could get all the gens done and escape with 3 of them, but we're human, none of us want to just let other people die. Think how boring the game would be, 3 people staring at gens all game, the other survivor hooked all game, and the killer staring at the hook all game.

You are making a very naive assessment assuming it's pity. Look, YOU might have pity and there's nothing wrong with that (to which I say, learn to harden yourself for the greater good). However, I can guarantee that most people out there are doing it out of pure and unadulterated greed. Both the bloodpoints and the ranking are driving most people who would just look after themselves to do these rescues (great design choice on the devs part IMO, using player's own greed to have them take that risk)

Sure, that one person might be bored, but it's HIS boredom, not yours. If he dies on that first hook, assuming he got caught in the first minute, it's 3 minutes out of his life... no big deal. He's now free to cue up for the next game.

Hell man, I get camped all the time. No big deal for me. Just hit that leave button when it's over, get into the next game.

I once had an idea that there should be an entity cage around the hook to stop camping. But we ended up shooting it down after discussing here in the forums.

In the end, the killer's role is a power role. And any suggestion that takes power away from that role is a bad one because it takes away the biggest reason to play the role. This is why we've always focused on finding ways to encourage the killer to leave. And I think we've done a fair job of it so far. I think what we need to do now is teach the survivors to not be so suicidal at rushing the hook. And the penalty to benevolence for the instant downs was a step in the right direction. Finding other ways to stop the hook farming would be a better use of our time.

  • I see Bill with MRE's myself actually.

Jake always struck me as a trail mix kind of guy

Given Ming was a professional gamer, she probably fills herself with junk food.

Meg - I see her chowing down on the carbs for the calories before a run.

Ace - seems like the kind of guy that gets sustenance at a Vegas buffet between rounds of blackjack.

Tapp is a cop, so obviously we gotta go with the donuts and coffee stereotype

Kate - Hmm, she seems like she'd like most of the unhealthy fried food they cook here in the south.

  • I realize this was a joke thread, but I can't help but comment how the pallets feel much closer to how they used to feel when the game first released... and I'm liking it.

I'm not afraid to dive pallets anymore. This is the most stress-free I've been as a killer for as long as I can remember.

  • Quick and Quiet not having a cooldown is actually not a bad idea. I'm not sure how to feel about the original post though. Dance With Me by itself is not a bad perk. I've been running it with Lithe lately and getting excellent results losing the killer with it.

  • The aura reading is only a problem if you have a habit of placing yourself just outside of the edge where you'd not show up (As that puts you right on the very edge of Nurse blink range)

If you have good positional and game awareness, this perk wouldn't be an issue for you.

  • I'm impressed how civil and fun this thread was. I half expected it to devolve.

Guess it goes to show how beloved our community manager is.
