First suggestion is a great idea. They could even implement the AI from the killer tutorials. Wouldn't that be cool c:

they said this is one of the things they are working with, and have it in game already now with spirit and freddy. the others are just thoughts in the moment because i'm tired of people dc'ing to de-pip. it's one thing to throw the match. it's another thing to just disconnect. both are bad but dc'ing to do it puts EVERYONE out points.

  • Just today I was playing as killer at rank 15, and got a lobby with the following ranks in it: 4,6,7,6. not even close to being within a range to a good match. it was a GREAT MATCH! i ended up getting a 3K because I made sure of 2 and got the last with noed (going for 10 kills tome challenge) I brought an ebony mori and then my next match was better but still many players were much higher than they should have been. the match making was more reliable before they tried to make it match to the lowest rank in the group, first it caused match making to default to the highest ranks for the other side and now they corrected that supposedly and now I think it's set to not caring about rank as they do on the ptb. There needs to be something done here.

I don't hate the idea, but I will throw a scenario out there:

What if I hook someone, move away, then wait for a rescue with the Hag, Huntress, Demogorgon, Freddy, etc.? I can get right back there or interrupt their unhook from a distance, meaning I could take advantage of that faster progression while not giving them any opening to actually unhook.

That would be my main concern, although to a lesser extent, I would also be worried that it would encourage survivors to rush the hook as fast as possible, which in turn forces the killer to camp, at which point you'd lose any benefit. I can see this backfiring a bit on both sides. The killer wouldn't want to have the person they just downed freed the second they step away, and survivors wouldn't want to be farmed off the hook before the killer really has a chance to leave.

that is the same thing that has been done with the ruin changes, it has made 4 man swf's that much more powerful. even with ruin in it. they get on 4 gens (seperately) and power the gens done because of their tool boxes) now that's 3 gens maybe 2 at minimum while the killer tries to find them done quickly. then they do the same again so 2 more gens. and then finally only one left. and that's done. sure it leaves them open to noed but that is how i've actually seen it in some streams. so you did this to try and help people learn the game but it's only helped one side and made the other side worse. i'd say with this it's a compromise. but i'm not saying it's perfect but ruin change was great for survivors and bad in general for killers. you listen to the high end players but how much do you all listen to the moderate players? (it has been said in the past that behavior takes suggestions from the high profile and best players but nothing about the players that play a lot but are not the best at this game. sure it isn't the only thing you should listen to but you should listen to every player as they give you feed back and look for a solution that works for all.

  • @Pythonheir lol repeating what was said does not make it any clearer. if a killer dc's they don't keep the sac achievement in the tome as they don't get anything added in. I don't know if i should shake my head or to laugh.

@GhostofYharnam I'm not here to argue but you wanted to.

  • @GhostofYharnam think what you will, I can ONLY read into your meaning so much or i can just take your text at face value and that is what I DID... I didn't try to put words into your mouth, if you had even mentioned survivor side as well some where in there i'd believe you but your first post was from a killer player's perspective ranting about survivors DC'ing. when called out on it you switched up and included survivors. yet you did so in a later post so my response is correct. sheesh.

  • sigh.... @GhostofYharnam I was being sarcastic but your original comment is this: "Can't even play a match without some entitled brat dcing because they hate the map, the killer found them first, or some other dumb crap. Please just do something this is getting way out of hand." guess what that doesn't say anything about annoying on both sides TILL a later response. I end up agreeing with your later statements.

@Yung_Slug yes it's GREAT to go on to another match when you were almost to get the challege that says complete 1 gen with poised AND make it out, then the killer DC's... I'd love to hear you be the one that happens on. moving to the next match doesn't matter in these cases

@Pythonheir just what? I was talking about the KILLER dc'ing! lol

  • It's great to know that you're upset by dc's because others are too.. but it's just perfect that when survivors have the upper hand and are escaping the killer can dc and deny survivors blood points, completed challenges etc... so sorry it only affects you.

Really the dc issue is a pain yes. but it's not just one sided.

  • Remember you need to report them in the scoreboard, and then go in and report them through the ticket system. one will not do it much but the second gets people's attention especially the Real Life Threat given in these.

  • @Revansith said:

You do get achieves I think for reaching Rank 10, 5 and 1. The method used by the game involves emblems which score between 1 and 4 points per emblem. With the revised rank reset (or if you like the indicator that determines what color crest you are) dropping four ranks into one, it makes it nigh impossible for new players to get a fair chance to learn. Of course new players can make friends, play SWF to be carried thru a trial or even practice on KYF.

But if the matter is ranks are only used for matchmaking then they need to be removed along with pips and emblems. As I have said before, why not have five colors and let the game move you into a higher color when you are good enough. It would avoid the depping that is prevalent. Since ranks are not shown in lobbies to survivors I have no idea who is in my group. I would argue if they were all gray ranks, I would probably play defensively and take less risks, but since I dont know I cant modify my game till the match is in progress.

Thing is KYF (kill your friends) doesn't count for your ranks, and you do SEE their ranks in KYF as it matters not. In a random match, you should not see what ranks they are, and if you think you should see what your fellow survivors are then the killer should also see, and you should see the killer's rank (though not 100% sure about that because it can lead to toxic behavior on the part of others towards the others! thus why I say no one should see anyone else's rank unless they are in the initial SWF or KYF lobbies where people know you already.

We need to stop demanding things of the devs in these forums and submitting ideas through proper routes. without true control these ideas become a battle between those that want them and those that do not want them and that makes these forums toxic. Come on people. To know someone's rank is not a reason to LEAVE a lobby, if anything with a large discrepancy you have a good chance of a lower ranked killer and thus could help you increase your rank! or it could get a higher ranked killer than the others and that makes it possible you'll be screwed. honestly that's the same as if you didn't know what ranks were there.

  • I played early today (sat, approximately 2-3pm EST) and I was a rank 16 killer with 3 rank 3's and one rank 15. I was then berated as being "BAD" because I wasn't in the mood to kill as all i wanted was one kill for tome progression, plus to me it's still near enough to christmas that I wanted to give. along with the double blood points. I didn't tunnel, I didn't camp, I got 3 stacks of bbq that match but waited to the end to kill the obsession.. and i'm BAD at this game because 3 rank 3's went against a rank 16 killer??? the match making should have been fixed but it has not been fixed or the fix was removed. right now it is matching to anyone that is +/- 6 that is in the group. i've had random rank 7's in my rank 16 lobby today as well and they were solo queue, though this one was not nasty about it.

The ranks in the lobby were a mistake to be seen. especially if the KILLER can not see them AS WELL. if the survivors see them then the killer needs to see them as well. WHY you ask? well simple if I was a rank 16 going into a lobby with 3 rank 3's and one rank 15 i'd dodge it in a HEART BEAT! I'm not the best killer in the game, nor the best survivor in the game but I can do fairly well when I'm not facing people that are that much better than I. think what is happening to rank 17-20's as the new players are not getting lobbies as killers because no one can derank below 16, and it's hard to match up to anyone 2-4 ranks higher at a minimum.

Punishing afk players and DCs is standard practice on any team game. Not people who afk once in a blue moon, but honestly, if you're displaying that kind of behavior often then you're not doing any good to the game or the community and you should probably be punished.

AFK players in MMO's (a multiplayer game) are never punished. even in PVP mmo's. please be specific instead of general.

  • @gantes said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/938876#Comment_938876

That's a terrible argument. No one likes being forced to end a boring match because the killer afkd.

You can't be in favor of DC punishments and think afk'ing is fine without being a complete hypocrite.

if you don't want to, no one forces you to. if you desire a certain outcome you have to do what it takes. if you do not care then don't do it. You're trying to tell everyone they OWE you something when no one OWES you anything! If you don't want to pip up then you don't do much, or distract the killer for a bit while others do things. if you want to pip up then you do gens, totems, find the killer let him chase you. As I said before an AFK killer is much the same as if you do gens and never SEE the killer (can happen) and get out. you can still de-pip even if the killer is ACTIVE AND you ESCAPE!

  • @Artyomich said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/938732#Comment_938732

1)Yes, I did report him with the in game system.

    2) No. I don't have a software to record nor I would bother actually making a ticket for this unless it's a cheater. In game report system should be fine and should be working for offenses like these.

3)Yes and no. I found the killer, I just didn't bother wasting more time running around in a circle gathering every left over points I could over a boring game. I expected an automatic safety pip for actually escaping but apparently that's not allowed.

    2) then you didn't do all you can. i do the full report for anything beyond a d/c. even without evidence for the reasons you stated even though I CAN record doesn't mean I have the space to record every single match. Thus I still report. I've gone away from reporting afk killers, because sure a 1 depip is nothing in the grand scheme of things. I was just paired with a group that had a rank 8 when i'm rank 19.

    3) then you did not do all you could to keep from de-pipping. sorry but if you just get out with an active killer that never finds you like you did then you will still de-pip.

  • @VicThor said:

If AFK is reportable, then how can a killer give up the match? I mean survivors can easily kill themself on the first hook. What would be a viable solution for killers to give up a match?

fair point. there isn't a legit way that isn't reportable or actionable to do it though... hmm interesting idea perhaps there should be a way for that.

  • There is no way for Behavior to match on age group. why? they don't ask how old you are when you start playing or buy the game. NOW steam, playstation, Microsoft store, the store it's bought for the ps4/xbox are supposed to but some don't ask or you just lie and say you're over 18. OR it's purchased by or for someone 18 or older, and the kid plays it because there is no block for them to play it etc. Honestly it's a great idea but won't happen and honestly I've seen many kids playing better than the adults!

  • @BloodyNights said:

If they are afk, just run around them and get chaser points. Don't just do gens and then leave.

Just be careful. I've had a lot of killers that just chill in the basement the whole game, with insidious. And wait for a survivor to run in there looking for the item box. Usually it's a leatherface, or insta down killer. And they will kill the survivor, and camp them. And that was there entire plan all along!

could be the Basement Bubba Barter Merchant! he has a valuable item in that there chest! :P

  • @Artyomich said:

Literally depiped because I escaped too fast and opened exit gates, So that's pretty cool. Why a survivor escaping or a killer finishing a match immediately isn't an automatic safety pip I don't know.

Anyway do these people get suspended? I heard people get suspended for disconnecting now.

    a few questions:

    1) did you click next to their score and select the appropriate report reason?

    2) then did you follow up with a full ticket with "additional player information"? backed up with information and possibly video?

    3) did you find the killer and get your self some chase points by running around them? the chase is triggered by a survivor running in the killer's terror radius and this can give you chase and escape points.

I am not saying it's the way it is, but you have to alert Behavior to this, and by the rules it is punishable. but there might have been a reason the killer was afk 1) emergency at home, 2) they were doing something else, and match making took long enough they forgot they were queue. 3) didn't hear the game because they went to a different window and don't have the game unmuted when it isn't the focused window. These are some possible reasons for AFK, but you have to report the AFK for them to look into the issue.

To be fair, a rank 16 player could potentially have a lot more experience than a rank 19, because a rank 19 is definitely a new player, or at least new to that role, but since 16/17 is the reset threshold, the rank 16 could be highly experienced and just not have played in a long time.

That said, it's also not really something that the matchmaking system can detect and do much about, without majorly affecting queue times.

a rank 20 player could be someone that has also deranked because of the rank reset system. I saw it with my own eyes when i logged in after rank reset. I was rank 20 again on killer because i didn't do so well. so those rank 20's could easily be people that aren't doing extremely well or moderately well at that point, not playing much. I'm not saying everyone that is rank 20 is like that because there are always newbies but all I said is that the match up experienced is level appropriate for the previous matchmaking schemes. Is it the best thing? not really but it is something that is possible.

  • @Bunnie said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/938070#Comment_938070

Again it is about experience which is the part you're not comprehending. Get off he numbers so much. For all you know those 19 and 20s just started. That 16 is 16 for a reason. Hes at 16 for a reason. If it doesnt take much then that should say something about them at 19 and 20 lol.

thing is ranking before their change was average of group +/- 6 ranks. so a rank 13, 19, 20, 20 is 18 now +/- 6 means it can be a killer as low as 12 or as high as 24 (not possible so hard capped at 20 your match is perfectly in line with that thinking. sure rank 19's and 20's are going to have problems, it's natural. now I am a rank 16 killer, and i've been paired with a group that is a rank 2, 5, 8 and 10 before that is a rank 6.25 average and +/- 6 means I'm out of range for the initial look for an opponent. well I don't like long queues as well as i don't like it when killers know i'm in a swf or i love it when i'm a killer and i know to dodge or not, and i've complained as have others. thus they tried to fix it so that survivors are paired first for a full group and killers don't know if that's a swf or if it's randos that won't work together.

I get it, you're upset that people got paired with a rank 16 when they were rank 20. how else will they get good? should all rank 17-20 survivors be paired with only rank 20 killers? what about the issue when a rank 2, 5, 8 and 10 are together and they get a rank 20 killer? that killer's gonna have a hard time because the survivors are going to be more skilled. now how about rank reset? how does that factor into your thoughts? well my rank 16 butt got dumped to rank 17 because i got owned and de-pipped, then reset to rank 20. now i'm facing those same 19-20's yet i was a rank 16 killer should I play as i know or should i pretend i'm brand new?

I used the previous matching system becuase I do not think the current one is working properly so i went with one that did work for the most part. anyways i don't see a major issue with your match other than you got paired with newbies. It happens.

  • @Mountichan said:

I'm not really sure why everyone is so obsessed with making people play matches they want them to play.

Personally, if you dc while loading, even if intentionally, I lose nothing. The match never loads, I keep my offerings, you keep yours, nobody gets hurt. Yet people cry about it like they lost 300000 bloodpoints just from that. Can we like, just be adults and let everyone live and play how they want? If you don't want to play serious against a mori, fine, I get it, it's really not fun. Don't want to play against a survivor group that switches last second to whatever you dislike and put on a map offering you don't want to play? Feel free to leave, I couldn't blame you less.

The problem with this game is, that it's not a real competetive game or even a game you can take serious. It's in probably its WORST state in terms of a working game. Countless bugs, crashes, lags with dedicated servers, delay issues and so many things to still fix until you could maybe CONSIDER implementing a dc penalty. And then again, there's SO SO many variables that makes people dc you can't just go on and punish people for the game bugging out etc.

All these people even wanting a penalty for suiciding on hook are out of their mind. You should never be forced to play something you don't want to, especially not in a buggy mess like DbD.

the ones saying that you should penalize killing oneself in game by the hook is bad, sure it is effectively similar but it is not the same. first of all your comment, no if you load into a match and need to leave suddenly sure you could use the "DC" itself but take your lumps if you do it or you can get your self hooked and leave the match this way (or just leave yourself active) and the game will end for you one way or the other (if killer the survivors will get gens done and match will end, if survivor the killer will find you, hook you and that will take care of itself. Now the difference between a straight dc and kill on first hook 1) killer gets points for downing you, 2) killer gets points for hooking you, 3) killer gets points for summoning the entity, 4) points for the final sacrifice, and finally it counts to emblems. does it affect other survivors? yes but once in the match it should not be an issue as the match was started. if it was in the lobby they can leave without a single issue.

at this point i'm done with this discussion, it has devovled into everyone against the rest because everyone is right (without backup of facts) since that is how people see their opinion. you will see my opinion here is backed up with the facts and discusses both sides not just one side and lambasts the others that don't agree.

In this example there are only two people left in the match and you have so much pressure DS doesn't even matter(as I said in my last post). You didn't tunnel, but being hit by DS is negligible. One's on the hook, the other one is as good as dead. It's very likely that person A is far enough away from where you hooked person B that they can't even make it to the hook to unhook them. The scenario you're describing is basically you've already won that game, but got hit with DS because of a very specific and rare situation in which there were only two survivors alive. I would say 9/10 times DS works against tunneling specifically. The other 1/10 time is end game scenarios and rare instances where an entire chase is negated due to the stars aligning.

actually in this case being hit by the ds is not negligible. sure you've gotten the 3k but now you're stunned and the other player is off and oh look hatch was around that other corner and since the other survivor let got on the hook to let hatch open they are out, killer is out of a 4k and they didn't get their tome challenge to kill all 4 survivors in any way during the match. your reply is the same as survivors telling killers that camping and tunneling are against the rules (they aren't). you wanted a scenario, ok here is another one. 4 survivors remain, there is one on hook, two hiding in the corners (blendette immersed, yet you dont' know this or just doing something being very very quiet if anything at all) survivor A is unhooked by survivor B. Survivor B is injured, so is A and since you're close borrowed time is active but was only a short rank 1 BT, Survivor B gets chased, downed and hooked. Survivor A makes a mistake and jumps into a locker fast in order to avoid bbq. B is hooked, now killer goes to the new sound, and opens the locker and who is there? survivor A!!!!!! wow... this is still less than 60 seconds so they get a free pass.

how about that one? I can make up scnearios if you want to keep going, point is there comes a time when DS is used to GAIN advantage and not to just get away. am I one to say there should be nothing to stop tunneling? nope I hate it as much as any survivor but once the killer deals with another person properly (hooked them) DS should deactivate. after 30 seconds had passed since it activated. let me explain. player A is unhooked, and 35 seconds later player b is hooked, A's DS now deactivates since it has been active greater than or equal to 30 seconds from being unhooked. or player A is unhooked and 20 seconds later player b is hooked, and since DS hasn't been active for 30 seconds or more it remains active till it hits 30 seconds. (numbers just pulled out of thin air btw no reason behind them other than easy numbers to think about).

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/927969#Comment_927969

Okay I have a question for you. If you downed and hooked another survivor, was the person who hit you with DS already on the ground? If so then you tunneled. You would have to chase and down 2 different survivors in 60 seconds, which most killers will tell you is next to impossible to do against any decent survivor. It takes probably around 10 seconds just 2 hitting them, so that'd be 20 seconds just putting both of them in downed state. That's a 20 second chase for both survivors. Sounds pretty impossible unless you're facing potatoes, and if you're winning that hard, DS shouldn't even matter.

The only way your description of events seems possible is if you slugged the survivor who was unhooked, and then chased and downed the other survivor. If you slugged the unhooked, you still tunneled. If you didn't, then you have so much pressure at this point that one DS should not matter. DS doesn't even save the person who used it. It just gives them 4 extra seconds. The only time DS is even remotely good really is during end game scenarios(and that's just a good bonus if the killer didn't tunnel). Other than that, it only lets you live a bit longer. It's just something that people need to use because of how bad killers tend to tunnel the hell out of people.

to answer your question about what happened before the 60 seconds were up on DS... hmm here we go. got two people left in match, one unhooked (B) and one hooked (A). B unhooks A now killer is in route back and make your choice is active, B and A split up. Killer follows B for another 15 seconds and downs him and hooks him 10 seconds later. total elapsed: 25 seconds. mean while, Player A goes to a Gen near the hook to work on it and gets it to 80%, causing tinker's to go off. Killer now knows where a player is and a gen almost done. he's there in 15 seconds, player A knows he has DS for 60 seconds so that is 20 more seconds the killer has to wait to pick up player A. is the killer supposed to let player A run all over the map, unhook player B and do gens or dance a jig??? You will note no intentional tunneling has been described, a valid scenario is now in play. the point here is that you can be hit with DS within 60 seconds and do no wrong by the survivor bible verses.

Personally the minute the unhooked player starts to do anything besides heal up or hide, the idea that you are being tunneled is BS. tunneling is not about letting players do anything and everything they want, but really about being sporting. it isn't fun to be unhooked then chased 10 seconds down, because teammate said i'm gonna farm this one, then to be rehooked and done again and now you're hooked and dead and got 1878 points because you got unlucky to get spawned near the killer (yes this happened to me many times, don't tell me to get gud or crap like that it was an example).

  • @Aztreonam78 said:

If people want to leave the match - they'll do it, not by dc, but by suiciding on the Hook.

Suiciding is worse than dc for Survivors, it results in:

    • Barbecue reveal and Pop the Weasel activation
    • No Bloodpoints for being abandoned
    • Increased chance of depipping bcs Hookings hurts the Survivor's Benevolent emblem (WHY IT DOES?)

I hope, these moments will be looked until release.

the planned solution to a disconnet in the long run will be to leave a husk in the world that can be hooked so killer gets the hook points, bbq and other things. i'm sorry but what you are saying is a problem is not a problem, it is what should be. eventually it will become only people that have to dc for some reason other than being mad (can't move, etc) and then we will stop worrying about it because at that point the game can be played properly without people just up and leaving the match.

  • First of all, disconnecting intentionally is against the rules, struggling to get off the hook is actually suggested. letting go early, nothing says you have to hit the spacebar or what ever. good lord if you don't like it you gotta try and make it all messed up. it's simple. if there is a rule set (there is) and it says that X is not allowed (it does for disconnecting) then it is punishable.

HOWEVER! I do not like what i heard (that in 6 games the time out went from 5 minutes to 25 minutes including game crashes, etc. this is the hard part of this an automatic system can not account for errors though but it is needed otherwise it won't be effective. ALSO loosing your items, offering (already lost at start of game) and loose two pips is NOT an effective deterant. why? because now they are at a lower rank or on their way to the lower ranks, and most of the time do not even bring items in, so there is no penalty for that plus they get in another match right away and they get blood points again to buy more items.

Personally I think that they should not be allowed to do anything other than exit the game during their time out. no spending blood points, no switching characters, looking at anything. all that is available is the exit button. I also believe there should be a way for you to contact them and tell them about your network outage to remove the point that was not an intentional DC. this is a test though i do not agree on telling people the time frame of this kind of test as well as no way to give feedback on the test (i was loading in and the game crashed, then next time the network dropped me (power outage) etc)

  • I am a survivor and killer player so I see things from both sides. I am not the best at either so I do not know it all nor am I perfect. first of all the idea of the "TUNNEL" has been yelled at me many times by many players when I play killer. PLEASE when you are a survivor don't screw up the definitions of what things mean, because I have to believe you are a potato because you survivors can't make up your mind. HONESTLY! if you want to accuse someone of tunneling get the definition right, it is NOT chasing the same person and not successfully hooking them once for most of the match! the idea of tunneling is when someone is brought off a hook, then the killer intentionally (this is the KEY WORD) goes for the one just off the hook while they run away to heal up. NOW if you make it obvious where you are going or if you run into the killer then there is nothing to do but suck it up when you are downed. so if the killer doesn't come right back to the hook and you run and it's a minute or two while you start to heal don't be surprised if the killer happens upon your scratch marks (time frame is not a minute or two that is just a turn of phrase) and follows them, there is NOTHING that says this was whom you last hooked. and finally on the subject of tunneling, if you get unhooked and you start working on a totem right next to the hook, don't whine about being tunneled. you asked for it because you stayed right there. there is NOTHING that the devs can do to discourage this, making it "illegal" by rules will put so many reports on their hands they can't do anything and 90% of those reports would be false. plus again you have to prove the intentional part without them bypassing someone, they can use the defense I was following scratch marks or they ran at me.

Now the subject of camping. generally camping is not a good thing for the killer because gens can be done faster etc. if the suvivors are solo queue's you loose communication which makes it a bit better in general... I think there are a few things that need to be changed, the "proximity to survivor should not be used if they are setting traps, reloading hatchets, bottles, setting a portal. these are all specific actions that are not part of camping but need to be done to be efficient. However they should be docked blood points when standing near the hook, even with insidious as well as emblem progress. again, there is no way to truly make this against the rules as one person's camping is not the same as another. I am pretty sure no one has a timer they start every time you get hooked and when does that timer start? how to know it's right and not started when you were downed etc. again nothing truly can be done in the rules for this.

The whole idea of complaining that 1 second per instance was removed is petty to be honest. 1 second in the whole scheme of things is nothing. if you can't stand that one second less you need to move on to something else that is better suited to your talents. come on people let's be real, you end up complaining that every change made is a nerf but honestly it's all about making the game better and as intended! I see these posts seconds after the patch and blammo you're an expert at this! oh yea!!! you don't even know what the changes are in game just how it reads lol.

As a networking engineer I am going to have to call massive shenanigans on that statement. All due respect, don't insult our intelligence. BHVR already does that far too much.

I mean, of course you can detect them, but detecting it when done on purpose vs. when it's a legitimate connection issue with complete certainty and zero guessing is next to impossible. You could in theory gather statistical data on where and when these "loss of connections" happen and when connections are restored to try and theoretically find out which ones were likely on purpose, but you're not detecting anything of certainty, and as terrible as pulling the cord is, it would be unethical to issue punishments or bans on anything but certainties.

But who am I kidding, with BHVR's priorities in DBD being to exploit customers with cosmetics vs. actually fixing things in the game that have been broken forever, I don't know if I'd trust them to be ethical in any sense of the word.

I guess you can't account for forgetting that the packets before the dc can be seen, sometimes there is an instability (higher pings etc) as well as other information that is available when you look at things from more than only the point of disconnect. sure if you look at the packet where the dc occurred, then you can't tell CRAP. but if you look at more than just that packet you can see what was going on. if you're a network engineer you know that you can't just use black and white and a single packet to know the whole damn story. if there were instabilities then it probably wasn't intentional, if none exist then well it was intentional or 95% chance of that. ALL DC's should be investigated, and punished but if there are instabilities then they should be removed from the ledger for the longer and more progressive penalties

There's tons of nonsense for deranking. Just went through a couple of matches of killers just hanging out and opening the exit to derank back to easier areas. Quitting definitely sucks as much as the people who quit on first hook when you've stopped doing a Gen and ran the entire map to save them. I don't mind someone who quits when slugged while the killer spends several minutes looking for the other survivor or just camps over you hoping they turn up. It takes long enough to find a match on Xbox currently. Give us matches that happen in a couple of minutes and it might be different but between all of the bugs, lag, and other nonsense that it takes after 15 minutes of waiting on the hatch, I get everyone's frustration and if one person is playing like a (bad word) then quit and give up the hatch to get them out of 2 kills.

At this point taking 15 plus minutes to find a match to only be lagged all over the place, then add in frustrating camping, tunneling and slugging a ban might just get some of us permanently off this game. Give us a taste of finding matches in the first 3 minutes and we'll all do whatever we can to avoid any longer waiting in the lobby and to never go back to 15 plus minute waits to die in just 3 mins.

Well here's the rub, when match making was rapid fire on the pc getting in a match in 2-5 minutes or less sometimes people dc'd instantly or later for apparently no reason or selfish reasons. this has not changed with times getting into the 5-10 minutes or longer for matches. so your comment here is not holding water. If you go into a match and intentionally do poorly, there is nothing that says you must do your 110% best effort, but to disconnect to get that double pip reduction that is circumventing the ranking system and causing others issues. This is the problem, people feel they have the "RIGHT" to just up and disconnect if they don't LIKE something: I don't like this map! I don't like this killer! I don't like the fact I was found in the first minute or less of game play! and the list goes on... how about "I don't like iron grasp!" if you want to leave the match, die on hook. There is nothing that says you HAVE to let the others save you, there is nothing that says "suiciding on hook" is wrong. but if you don't like something, don't waste your time and get 0 points. Behavior designed this game thinking people would LOVE to rank up and get to the highest (lowest in this case) rank there is. This mindset is common for any sports or competitive play instance. disconnecting was thus seen as a bad thing over all and they instituted a -2 pip penalty. Thing is it's laughable when streamers leaving evidence on their VOD saying oh yes i depipped twice because I dc'd! I'm out of the red ranks! WOOHOO!!!!

DC'ing should be for 1) you can't do anything in game what so ever since you shouldn't have to wait for the killer to find you if your pc locks up, 2) an emergency comes up and you don't want to leave the system connected to a match and 3) you loose power or internet for a reason outside of your control. there really isn't a reason outside of those two that you should DC what so ever. HOWEVER I do think there should be appeals for network disconnects, pc and power drops, things like that because it should never be punished for things that are out of your control.

One side will always have an advantage/disadvantage when quitting. As many have said, they don't care if someone quits and screws their team upfront, they love that, they just don't like when it's used against them for one to escape. The one quitting loses here, the killer doesn't lose as they keep all points they earned on the quitter plus a bonus for quitting. The survivors only benefit if they quit and give a hatch.

as a player that plays both sides, i hate it. I can't control it but I hate it. early or to give hatch. I report all quitters like that, because it is against TOS. I will use it as a killer or survivor, but I will still report the DC under intentional means. (if it is a silent dc when ui changes i won't report it otherwise I will) anyways everyone loves to keep doing their favorite thing... lets screw others over and circumvent the ranking system.

ALSO quitting is not punished here. 32K or less loss of blood points is minor when the person plays for hours. -2 pips is not a punishment, it is a benefit it is a GOAL at this point, allows de-ranking.

What information could one look at to verify whether the Killer was intentionally trying to get this bug going?

I was talking about disconnects, my apologies for misunderstanding what you were talking about there.

  • @PolarBear said:

There is no way to differentiate players who are doing it on purpose and ones that are just playing the game (or even doing archives challenges that make you hook in the basement) so most likely no bans will be handed out.

there are ways to know if it was intentional or not, it gets a bit harder to tell but it is possible to know if it was a network cord being pulled or a power drop. there are a good deal of information housed in the packets that go back and forth between the client and the server. this information is available for BHVR to analyze.

  • this event has the old hallowed blight skins available through the serums once again! it is there! so they did that here ... :)

I stopped spending money on DBD because I hate the glitch that inverts your camera controls mid match. It makes the game impossible to play. I've never seen them aknowledge this is a problem they're working on though.

I've had my mouse controls invert several times and they acknowleded it but didn't do anything beacuse it's not always one thing or the other. my invert control is no were near my other controls. but i still play because it's a challenge and I will over come it.

  • @Peanits said:

We will indeed be consistent. As with other bugs that could be done without knowing, we won't be banning people for using basement hooks. That's just a part of the game. There's even a challenge right now that asks you to hook survivors in the basement.

actually two in a row... thanks for this though.

  • @yobuddd said:

If the bug is too hard to track down or takes too long to fix, can we just program a rock or invisible wall or something at the bottom of every basement staircase to block it?

People will learn soon enough not to work on that tome challenge at the moment. It is a fair drawback to both sides as killers can’t access those hooks and survivors can’t access a guaranteed chest.

On the upside, nobody prematurely loses the match and has to stand there wasting time because they’re afraid to disconnect.

    @Thanatos_x said:

Make the basement hooks unusable at least, or something. It's ridiculous how many people have been running iron grasp/agitation in the last couple days and quite annoying honestly. I'm just glad I completed my basement challenges before the new chapter released lol

fine make it unusable, but then for every basement challenge they must be automatically completed in order to give progression (WITH REWARDS), and any challenge ALREADY completed allows for another to be completed at the player's choice. why? because if you can not progress along that path they may not complete their rift tiers and they might have already paid $10 for everything to be available. this is the most idiotic thing i have EVER ######### seen. You don't block something that is REQUIRED for progression of something that is official. Oh yea... there are basement achievements in steam, those would be completed automatically for those that have yet to do so but there will be no extra for having done them already as they don't key into anything that is paid for or possibly paid for.

  • I'm sorry the bug exists, but let me explain to you a few things:

    1) it's been said many times you would have to catch them somehow saying that they were abusing this bug and then you would have to take said evidence via ticket to bhvr and that would get them a ban or a time out or something.

    2) if you don't want to risk it don't be in the basement, and before you say you can't stop being in the basement yes you can, don't GO INTO it what so ever, if the killer takes you there well it happens but the bug is not 100%.

    3) there is no way to know who is going to get the bug until it happens so you can't say they are intentionally getting the bug.

    4) it apparently causes the game to struggle for you when this happens. so if it's your second hook you have to wait the struggle out.

    5) a bug like this may not be noticed by testing as it was NOT reported during the PTB because it may not happen every time. this means that yes a DLC is released and an interaction causing this was not anticipated. ALSO you might notice that with the patch came a perk that would have returned legion to it's old self BUT they removed deep wounds from being dependent on the killer's terror radius to being dependent on the character SPRINTING(running). so you might realize that they ARE a) listening and b) actively trying to not muck things up with new things being added in.

    6) threads like this always devolve into he-said, she-said and us vs. them mentalities. stop accusing people of things you have no proof what so ever or knowledge of what is happening.

  • @oxygen said:

I'd imagine any form of disconnect will be punished unless they can conclusively tell the difference between someone doing it through the menu or pulling the plug/killing it in task manager/closing the app/whatever else.

I'm just curious if it will apply to crashing/closing the game on the offering/loading screen as well to stop people from dodging offerings.

there is a way to see if the dc was through the network packets. if you know anything about networking the packets that are sent back and forth between computers and servers and other computers have a great deal of information I won't go into because if you don't know you'll tell me i'm screwed in the head anyways. but what is harder to tell but is still available is if you pull the plug, or you use task manager to drop your game. I will give you a quick network connection routine that happens every single time you go to a new web page or access something like a game on the internet.

    1) your computer sends a packet of information that says basically "hello I am X"

    2) the destination responds with much the same "hello I am Y, nice to meet you X."

    3) your computer sends a packet of information that says "Hello Y, nice to meet you, we're now ready to talk to each other."

This is called the Three-way handshake. and every time after that there are numerous ways to know how and why you have lost connection and WHERE you lost connection (though this is in general). I do not know how ever if something were to happen outside of the player control if an automated systems will know what to do. Now to address the OP's talk of SLUGGING:

I personally think it's scummy to do it but it is part of the game. I will crawl and die if i can but it is part of how the game works. I feel that if 4 people are on the ground at the same time, even if one is now being carried I think if the remaining people are still on the ground or carried there should be a surprise small skill check that allows you to get back up even without the perks. though this idea would be hard to implement it is doable, and the time before that surprise skill check happens would have to be researched and it could happen to a random person on a shoulder (sudden DS), hook (if first hook, it'd be a sudden kobe but second hook or dead it'd not happen to them), or on the ground. that would make the game more interesting and be a deterant to slugging but not completely remove it as it is only a small chance and you don't know it'd happening till it does.

To the OP: we may ######### about slugging, but realize that if you resort to slugging you have just acknowledged that you have lost already just as getting the hatch is for survivors.

  • first of all, survivors affected by his shock can not do anything for 2 seconds at minimum, increasing the time to 2.5 is not a nerf. if it is currently 2.5 seconds then it still is not a nerf what so ever. also if illusionary pallets are being seen without an addon that's a buff. what part of these two says "NERF"??? I don't think any one thought that through. and doc is one of those that do not have the right number of add on items either. just like nurse did not so till they actually announce anything don't start calling nerf to everything without cause.

If you are playing and losing levels bc you camp as killer you are not playing correctly. it's like saying you won a marathon but never got past mile 10. It's cool I'm a red level survivor we don't see your trash except on reset ranks. Also you probably reset to lvl18 and camp noobs your good though🍒🍆

well i am sorry that you feel that it's trash. like others have said, including the devs, there are more than one win condition. what you believe is a win condition isn't always the win condition someone else has. if you don't like it die on the hook instead of wait it out, or wait it out so your team mates could get their escape. up to you. but calling people names you end up being the trash you are calling them. Just play the game or don't. if you don't like it don't chat and move on.

Yea camping is wrong as a killer you won't level up past ten if you straight face camp each survivor, in fact you lose points for camping so yes the game doesn't like it when you camp neither do survivors. That's why you get hate mail. I play killer and don't receive hate mail. Also your trash If you camp from the start.

Correction camping is not wrong, never has been so stop lying. Camping may not be efficient in points, but it is fun and gets kills from altruistic survivors. Your fun and my fun are obviously different.

You are both right in your own idea. Please we all have different ways to play as killer and as survivor. As long as the rules of the game as put down by behavior are not violated then it is fine. outbursts in the after game lobby is to be expected and even then it's to be expected that said outbursts will be directed to someone. I once was killer and I got compliments from two survivors (I said thanks) and gg to all of them and the survivors just started railing against each other after that!!! I was morbidly curious what would be said so i stuck around.... as this was when it was point to point connections on the killer and not dedicated servers.

  • the images above show match making of + or - 6 ranks from the highest ranked (lowest number) survivor...first one is 8 but perhaps there wasn't anyone else available so it picked that one. the others show it right. just because the system is keyed to go off the lowest doesn't mean it can't achieve that goal andit then looks for the closest to it... that's how it's supposed to work so 8 isn't truly out of the realm of posibilities

  • I also play both sides and do both side's challenges and dailies and do games where I do not act normally or do what is expected. Thing is here 1) if someone is put out of the game 10 minutes before the next one they are going to be angry, 2) if someone is prevented from doing something needed for an objective, they will be upset. 3) if you are killer and follow the one just unhooked you will be yelled at for tunneling, 4) if you follow a person too long you will be yelled at for tunneling. 5) if you are a survivor you will be yelled at for having a flashlight even if you don't use it, 6) if you are a survivor and you quickly crouch after a pallet you will be yelled at for tbagging.

all of these things are rough on someone and like what you received and just posted here, you might be seeing the same thing, someone boiling over. I was like this last night and i blew up about it when i was tunneled out of existence in a match, and then made fun of because of my rant in that i only made 8K but hey when the killer came back and took me down right after unhooking time 1 and then again unhooking time 2 saying they never tunnel. funny thing is if he just said yea, sorry about the inadvertent tunnel it'd have defused me completely.

you have three or four options depending on what you want to do: 1) ignore it and leave, 2) respond and escalate it, 3) respond and try to escalate it, 4) just not say a word. So you are vilified in any of these things but #1 you don't see it.

But please realize that it may be a bad night and they don't want to stop on a down match.

  • hmm there are days where everquest, wow, SWTOR, and any other mmo have gone down for a day or more due to network connection issues, these servers are physically maintained by the company and are physically located in the same place. Go to Overwatch, DBD, CSGO and other point to point player vs player only also have this issue but they have a less centralized issue. do you blame dbd every time steam takes a dump and you can't play dbd?

  • OP: did you send a crash report to them to see what caused it? so they can work with it? or did you just restart and go back to playing what ever game you wanted?

Computers can screw up and be the best and most optimized by many things. a slight power surge (nothing to hurt the pc) can cause it to record a 1 instead of the 0 it should (how the data is stored) you could easily gotten borked data from your ISP causeing your game to crash. neither of these is BHVR's fault what so ever and that's only a small option that can cause this
