It would be both sides complaining, not just survivors. Damn do you ever actually play survivor? You need to out an equal amount of hours into both sides before spewing nonsense about a topic you don't have the knowledge to argue against.

I'm a survivor and killer main, and you have to start looking at things from both sides my man.

I’m a rank 7 survivor. So yes I play survivor.

After reading pretty much the entire thread, I actually have some other points I'd like to make out too.

Growing up I used to play Halo with my brother, and back then all we had was splitscreen. One console. This meant you could screen-watch, thereby cheating to gain an advantage (In this case, knowing my brother's location).

Now, when you say SWF is cheating, you're essentially saying all team based games that have ever existed where you have Comms, are cheating. That's not the case.

In Halo multiplayer, there is team chat. We all used to play MW or MW2 (the ogs) and talk to our friends through Xbox Live Comms rather than the games Comms if we were playing with friends, whereas the in-game Comms is exactly the same as Post-chat in dbd essentially.

How can you sit there, and say that talking to your friends, talking to people and giving them info(where they have no actual visual representation of what's happening) is cheating?

Screen-watching IS cheating, Comms are not cheating. The same applies to streamers and DBD. Sure it's public, but it's not fair, it's literally getting info where you're not supposed to have it. SWF are allowed to have it, that's why it's built into the game.

As the OP is only a rank 13 killer as they stated in a previous comment, it is fair to assume you've probably never made it to Red ranks, thus you really can't complain about SWF. I'm sorry, but you've seen nothing if you're complaining about brown rank SWF.

Unless you're at red ranks, there is no way in hell any SWF is cheating (which they're not doing anyway). Red ranks against a Hag where the entire team can see you set your traps for a three gen, only to run over and instantly set the traps off really screws with that hag player. It's awful to feel, but it's built into the game, which is why I'm excited for the Object of Obsession nerf that the Devs proposed. It means that Trapper and Hag will probably be at the ranks of Freddy, Spirit or Cannibal to say a few.

TL:DR, Stream sniping is cheating, SWF is not.

Due to the matchmaking I as a rank 13 killer have constantly gotten multiple matches with red rank SWF teams. So I know the pain.

  • @kingcarl2012 said:

I will actually say i do this as well, when i see a ttv i will check out the stream mostly to check ranks. Im a rank 13ish killer as well so, if they majorly out rank me purple or red rank, i will leave it on not to listen to there comms because thats too distracting, i mostly ignore it, but specifically when im chasing the streamer i will listen, ive gotten some good tips about things i do wrong that way.

Not all streamers save vods so you cant always watch it later and i dont wanna keep a list of who i played when to search for them. I also always pop into chat to talk to them unless they were super toxic.

Also in a weird way i feel kinda justified as they are broadcasting my gameplay for profit so i feel that monitering what they say about me to however many people is kinda my business and I have dc'd and gave them crap for it if they are being too verbally abusive but thats only happened once or twice.

    You understand

<shrugs> I've a big advocate of having Teams and Solo ques separate, so that the game can be balanced better for everyone involved. A 5th Perk Slot could be opened for Killers when they fight SWF. If that was enough to balance it, then they wouldn't have to keep trying to do it with Perks which has a poor track record. The SWF's 5th Perk (Comms) isn't something I really approve of either. Stream Sniping takes it to a whole new level. If you think Stream Sniping is ok, do you think a SWF using Comms with 1+ of them Stream Sniping the Killer is fine too?

We all have to look at ourselves in the mirror. None of the people on this Forum or in the end game chat are anything more than nameless, faceless voices squawking on the internet. Winning a game (that they don't know you got unfair advantage in) means nothing. YOU will always know you only managed that win by going outside the game. It is ultimately ourselves we answer to, measure against, and seek to better. You wouldn't have asked the question if you didn't already know it was wrong.

Those are actually good suggestions that the devs will never do cause then survivors will complain about it being op. If a SWF team is also using a stream sniping for the killer as well I just shrug. They already update their team where the killer is constantly on the map. Now they just have a visual to go with it too. It’s not even that much of an overkill. Especially since there’s a 20 second delay for stream. Also I don’t think it’s wrong. I was just curious what other’s opinions on it are and I’m open to discussion.

  • @Dizzy1096 said:

Yes it’s fair. I can see why they dislike it but it’s fair. It’s their choice to broadcast their game to the world so you can’t blame others for watching. Afterall no streamer ever messaged me and said “hey mind if I broadcast you to the world?” They just do it regardless.

I will extend an olive branch here and say stream sniping is ok in certain circumstances and games. Is stream sniping fair in games where it’s one V one? No. It is fair in this game where it’s 4 v 1 and you’re on comms with your team and I’m left in the dark? People this is a horror game. The killer is suppose to be a threat. Have you seen a horror movie where all the survivors know exactly where the killer is the whole movie so they just avoid the killer the whole movie and escape unharmed?

  • @NekoGamerX said:

yea it on ps4 too but not in the game it self and it a form of cheating no matter how you cut it this game was never balanced for it just because voice chat is on steam or ps4 or whatever does not mean it built-in to the game.

the game was balanced around solo play not swf on chat.

A lot of the SWF team ive encountered are very well coordinated. They aren’t red ranks for nothing. If you are lower ranks using comms I’m not as harsh about it. Cause as you say, they aren’t effective at communicating yet and are new to the game. But when you have played enough to get good and get into red ranks and then on top of it you use comms. It’s like giving a grizzly bear a rocket launcher. It’s overkill and you are in for a bad time.

Yeah i saw one time when i was survivor i was joined with red ranks with someone closer to my rank 9 versing a 13 lvl rank killer . Matchmaking is trash .

Honestly I think there needs to be an icon or something stating to the killer whoever is in a party or SWF team, giving them the option to pass on it with that knowledge. Sure it will be harder to find matches but there’s always killers who will want to try and battle against a 4 man SWF team. I’m way too competitive and I’m not great at this game. So I know I’m just in for a rage inducing sweatfest and won’t really enjoy the match. Would prefer to not give myself any more of an ulcer lol

  • I’ve noticed sometimes the matchmaking tries to make it “fair” by tossing in one person close to my rank then the other three are all red rank 3 man SWF with a rando.

Then why play killer tho lol if you are in the red ranks or purp or green then of course you should be expecting swfs swarming all over you 😂 Sorry but if you think the swfs are gonna go away they wont lol

however i do agree they are putting ttv in their names basically asking for it lolz

so since I’m a level 13 killer I should just expect from now to constantly get red rank 4 man SWF teams? I’m not even a high ranking killer and I constantly get these sweat squads

i have read your post but does it matter and is it really necessary to go to their stream at the start of the game ?.?

just finish the game and then go watch their clip if they even clip that and watch their reactions to your game and drop by .

edit : also stream snipe is not fair in general not even in friendly ways thats just ruining the game for others cuz you’ll know their places and such .

Also you just made a great argument for why it’s unfair for killers with SWF teams. Cause they will know where I am and such. It works both ways.

If I know they are SWF I don’t want to play against them. I don’t want to waste my time and sanity against toxic 4 man SWF teams. I would rather not do that and wait till after all the toxic rage to see if they were a SWF team

  • @AsherFrost said:

A lot of people seem to fail to realize there is a delay. As in, even if the OP was trying to use the stream to gain intel, his intel would be between 2-5 minutes behind, which for a game like this makes it essentially useless. Probably funny as hell though to hook someone and then hear on the stream "he's coming, but won't get me".

So yeah, I say it's pretty fair. More to the point, the mods have already confirmed it is not something that is considered reportable behavior. (Probably because they too, understand that there is a significant delay that makes any perceived advantage moot, or just because proving it would be very difficult)

That’s what I have been trying to say this entire post but people don’t care cause I still listen to it.

  • @DemoHarrington said:

its not fair . Why would u check the stream out in the first place ? Why just leave the stream alone and come back after the game ends .

Did you not read the post? I check it out to make sure they aren’t toxic streamers who are only playing to be toxic to the killer. And honestly, if I find out they are in a four man SWF team I usually just bow out of the lobby. I don’t even want to bother. I have very rarely did a SWF team if I have the knowledge beforehand they are a SWF team.

The devs intentionally added SWF to the game, they probably assumed that people would use external communication to talk with their friends that they're playing with. Because why play with friends if you can't communicate with them?

Devs did not add a mechanism for the killer to listen into the survivors communications.

You asked if stream sniping is wrong, it is. You did not ask if SWF is a balanced mechanic, it is not. These, however, are separate topics of discussion.

agree to disagree then. Especially when the devs clearly favor survivors. Part of the charm of playing killer is you don’t know where he is at the time. Is he coming your way? Or is he chasing your friends? Like an actual horror movie. Well now with comms this horror movie has turned into a comedy.

  • @Mugombo said:

Lmfao are people serious? You honestly think talking to your OWN teammates is the same thing as being able to see and hear what your OPPONENTS are doing?

Jheeez sense really just isn’t common anymore.

What are you talking about to your teammates during that match? The weather? No. You are updating your team on where the killer is and what he is doing. You are coordinating who should do what, who will go save from hook after the person on said hook says I left, not to mention the person on hook informs their team where the killers traps are etc. it’s gaining an unfair advantage

Not a bannable offence =/= supporting. You keep making false analogies

Stream sniping is virtually impossible to have proof for to even consider having it ban worthy, hence why it's simply excluded.

No that’s not a false analogy. Cause people hate face camping and tunneling and such but it’s not a bannable offense and they support that too.

  • @Yumyumtasty said:

SWFs are calling out if a stealth killers goes for you or where a killer heads, it's basically the same. If I see that the streamer is not giving info I close it.

It always seems like I get the 4 man SWF team when I’m a stealth killer. So the entire existence of my Ghostface is now ruined and pointless.

  • @JinSime said:

  • @kyogul said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2025503#Comment_2025503

Yea I'm aware, and that was an irrelevant point as that changes absolutely nothing.

People can do what they want but I personally find it really sweaty if people stream snipe. Like bruv play the game normally you don't need to hear their comms or see what they're doing. Wait until the game is over and watch the VOD if you're curious about what they said about you. That's what I do.

Your intentions of hearing the stream and trying to equalise it to them being on comms is a false equivalence, and that's where I have an issue with what you did.

Devs support comms and people need to stop being thick and acting like it's cheating when the devs have made their stance on it. They literally allow comms in their official discord server that they have the highest role in.

So to give my conclusion to your question: No I don't agree stream sniping is fair. You aren't supposed to hear nor see what the other side is saying while playing. Comms are permitted by devs. Stop equalising the two.

Devs support stream sniping though. It’s listed as not a bannable offense. So if we are going by the great gods of Behavior then by them saying SWF is fine then them not banning stream sniping is also fine and part of the game.

  • How is SWF teams not cheating while stream sniping is? Isn’t this suppose to be a horror game? Imagine in movies where there is a killer but all the teens have comms throughout the whole movie, “oh no! Jason is over here following me guys! Better go to x while he’s on me!” Then at the end of the movie the teens escape but not without giving that killer a few tbags. Roll credits.

  • @Volcz said:

    "out of curiosity"

Just say you want to hear their callouts, don't sugarcoat it or excuse it by bringing up delay. SWF was implemented into the game so ofc people want to play with friends and usually that means having comms. You going out of your way, opening someone's stream up to hear what they're saying about you all throughout the match, is pretty wack. You bring up the up excuse that it was an SWF but you also say that you regularly check on people's streams and let them know you're the killer. So you clearly do this whenever you see a TTV and not just when its an SWF. Slimy IMO.

P.S I'm a solo surv and hate SWF for pretty much every advantage it brings. Still think what you do is weird.

Oh so slimy. Saying let’s have fun in their chat and that 20 second delay. That’s why I have won no matches at all against anyone with a TTV in their who runs a 4 man SWF. I’m just that good, especially when the game pairs me up with 4 rank 1s and I’m rank 13.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2025458#Comment_2025458

Why the double standard? And also how would you even know unless you start stream sniping?

I actually kinda agree with him there. I don’t think it’s a double standard. If you listen before the match starts and he’s not talking to anyone else from his team and he’s solo I just turn the volume down on my phone.

  • @kyogul said:

No what you did wasn't fair since you intentionally left it up and could hear everything they were saying. Doesn't matter if you couldn't see, you still had access to information you otherwise wouldn't have had because you sniped their stream.

It doesn't even matter if you won either

You do know there is like a 20 second delay right? I’m not gaining any advantage at all by listening in the background. Especially when most of them are saying “thanks stinkyfeet1254 for the sub!” Every two seconds

  • Cause while I don’t do it I don’t really see a problem with it. They are gaining an advantage outside the game with being on comms. If someone wants to stream snipe in this sense I honestly don’t see a problem with it.

  • The only time I ever gained an “advantage” with the stream watching was when the 4 man SWF team all mentioned to chat that they were red ranks while I am rank 13. After that I just memed and joked around the entire match and didn’t hit or down anyone. They were so mad and confused. I would walk against a wall constantly and act like I was lagging or having problems and the whole time they were talking about what’s wrong with this killer lol

  • @Raja said:

If against swf yes it is fair if it's just a lowly solo no.

The “stream sniping” wouldn’t help me anyway cause anytime I have it going while I play there is a very long and noticeable delay. One time I hit and downed the streamer and like ten or so seconds later I heard her character scream again and she said “wow I can’t believe he got me”

  • @Seraphor said:

It's not fair, but if you want to put TTV in your username that's your problem. If there's a delay of >5 seconds sniping doesn't really offer all that much of an advantage.

Anytime I have the twitch stream on it’s always delayed. Like I was playing the match and according to the stream they haven’t even loaded in yet. So yeah. I’m getting all the info and cheating so hard.

  • there is a delay in the streaming. I sat there playing the game and according to them talking they were still in the loading screen in the stream. Wow I’m getting so much info and cheating hard.

  • @PanicSquid said:

No, its not fair. As a killer main I argue: you shouldn't have access to the information that could be gained by just listening to the swf talk to each other.

Is it bannable? Maybe, I don't know.

But it’s fair for them to constantly update their team where I’m at 24/7 in the match? But it’s a no no if I do it? Rules for me but not for thee? I don’t watch their screen when they stream. I just listen to what they are saying about me and such. Just out of curiousity.

  • Thanks everyone for the advice and words of encouragement. I won’t just quit being Killer and try to motivate myself to continue. I do want to get better.

Define a couple of seconds? Normally that would mean two seconds, but clearly that isn't possible short of hacking. So what you really mean is two Generators came up probably between (45) seconds to a minute or so? And then you go on to indicate they got the third one before you even found someone, so you gave up.

I'm sure (although I have not read all the responses to you yet) that someone has pointed out that the game is never over until it is over. I can't tell you how many games I've lost the first four Generators early and then fought for the last one for 5-10 minutes (and won). So....

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLUS0o69wQ

Besides, even if you do lose you will learn more from losses than you ever do from win. That is my experience.

Honestly I try not to give up but I’m still encountering matches where I don’t even manage to hook anyone and I get down to two gens. I just give up after that. If I haven’t even downed or hooked anyone by the time they get down to two gens I don’t really see a point in continuing the match. Just move on to the next one. I just don’t really have it in me to continue.

They were all on the other side of the map except one person. Two gens popped and when I finally spotted someone before I could even chase them a third popped. I just washed my hands of the whole match after that cause even if I chased and hooked her another gen would have popped, they would have came to unhook her, and I would be down to one gen.

  • @FFirebrandd said:

Ok, a few things I've noticed from your posts that I can maybe help with.

Firstly, I think I saw a post where you said you were patrolling half the gens on the map then lost 3 gens on the other half. It doesn't take 80 seconds to patrol half the map, so you must be repatrolling gens you've already checked. Why? Generally speaking Survivors won't get off a generator unless you do something to get them off, so you don't need to recheck a gen you've already checked unless at least 1 gen has popped.

Secondly, your early game is having trouble. For this one I strongly recommend getting and using tier 3 Whispers. It should help immensely with not wandering around aimlessly for 80 seconds trying to find someone. If its off, you know there's nobody within 32 meters of you, so you need to be somewhere else. This is immensely helpful in general, but especially for newer killers who don't have a good sense of where and what the Survivors will be up to. In addition to that, it is part of the base Killer set of perks, so you don't need to spend shards or money to get it... and your GF likely already has it. Don't bother with tier 1 and 2 Whispers though... the range on those is too large to be useful.

Thirdly, you don't have many good perks. I feel this one. I was in the same boat for a while as Killer. However, let me try sharing some numbers with you that might help you realize you have better options for slowing the game than you think. A Survivor healing another takes 16 seconds, but it occupies 2 Survivor's time so it actually eats a total of 32 seconds. If you interrupt a heal and down the injured guy 10 seconds through, you just bought yourself the same amount of time as if you had Pop Goes The Weasel. Now, lets say that you're running Sloppy Butcher, which pushes the total heal time to 19.2 seconds. If you interrupt a 19 second heal or 99 stalk and down the guy who just got healed, you just bought yourself 38 seconds! That's nearly 2 uses of Pop and they have to deal with one of their teammates on the ground or hooked. Where am I going with this? A Nurses Calling. That's where I'm going. Its a Nurse Teachable perk (meaning no Shards/money required) that lets you see Survivors healing within 28 meters of you. If you successfully interrupt heals with it, it can buy you so much time. As GF or Slinger, you should be able to use it well since GF has night shroud and Slinger has 24 meter Terror Radius which is less than Nurses range.

Fourthly, I have a suspicion that you are over committing to chases and getting hooks. Do not underestimate the amount of time you can buy yourself just off of getting injuries, especially if you're using Sloppy Butcher which is probably your best game slowdown available to you right now. In fact, I have a whole Slinger build based off of the fact that fully healing off 1 reel and stab with Sloppy will take the survivors 50 seconds (over half a solo gen) and it works. Now, there will be the occasional team you run into that'll just slam Gens while being injured. For those guys, you need to do things that heavily encourage them to heal. Ghost Face kind of does this on his own since Survivors don't generally like having an undetectable Killer step around the corner and easily down them. On Deathslinger, I'd recommend bringing Tinkerer. Works wonders vs healthy Survivors too because you can round the corner, M1 them, then shoot and down them before they get anywhere. You can throw on Thanatophobia (another Nurse teachable) for additional incentive for the Survivors to heal too.

Thanks man. That’s actually good advice. I’ll try it out and see if it works. I patrolled the 3 gens on one side cause someone advised me that way work. Just had another match where I hit and downed an ash at the start barely spent any time in the chase and three gens popped. I’m starting to think gen speed is way too fast. And I keep getting SWF teams. I wish there was a way to disable getting teams.

I main Ghostie, Twins, and Plague, so I have felt your pain of being revealed by SWFs every second and also indoor maps with Plague which I can't aim with all the walls lol! I'm sure you're a good GF, I realized people would reveal me whenever they could and so I turned my cloaking into a directional for me; If they revealed me, they were also revealed and started a chase. Before I had any good gen perks, I honed in on chase perks instead. I remember using whispers, im all ears, and I think bamboozle for shack too if I remember correctly. This game isn't easy, and I hope you find your ghostie passion again because he's fun and his reveal mechanic is a two way street. Again, good luck with everything and I really hope you are able to perfect the craft in your own unique way :)!

Thanks. I’ll keep trying at the very least. But I won’t expect much lol

It's still possible to have a chase and not even have more than one pop though-- I pack oppression and pop and sometimes if a chase takes too long or I see they are getting too much distance I go and look for gens being repaired so I can at least give them a skillcheck or regress their work! Have faith in yourself and understand that this game is a learning process :)! I suck at looping yet have made it to rank 3 I think two times now? And it's because I have adapted my own play style as a survivor and noticed common tactics and strategies in killers. I hope you find your 'flavor' of play style-- Mine is probably mint chocolate chip because a lot of people doubt its deliciousness until they try it lol <3! Good luck in your next matches and I hope you have fun! Treat it like a big ol ice cream store!!!

Honestly for awhile I thought my play style was Ghostface. I was doing really good as him and was getting kills even with my rank being 12. I was doing good with the stealth element. However then I ran into multiple SWF teams or dozens of survivors with Spine Chill etc and slowly what I thought was me getting better drained away. It got to the point where I had a least ten matches in a row where I couldn’t even use my power and had to just wing it and run after them. Constantly lost. Went to Deathslinger and was doing ok. Not as great as when I was Ghostface. Then I kept getting indoor maps and the like and it turned sour quick. (Hawkins, Lery, etc). I still like playing as Ghostface and Deathslinger but I’m not expecting to get any kills anymore with them.

It’s just I haven’t learned or gotten the perks that let you regress gens, etc. the most I have is ruin which is usually taken out quick in my matches. I find it difficult to map pressure because of that and if I’m in a chase I can’t just hit them once and leave. They will more than likely just heal back up. So I got to continue the chase till they are down. Which wastes a lot of time.

This situation rarely happens. With 4 survivors and very little gens left it would have been extremely easy to find survivors at this point. Again a GOOD MATCH with a killer should only get you 3 kills. A bad match 1 kill. An AVERAGE MATCH should be 2 kills.

Again if 3 or 4 kills were the average, that would be extremely killer sided.

My point is that you had a pretty easy chance to get 1 to 3 kills in this game. The point as a killer isn't that you always have to get a 4k. The point is to kill as many as you can. If you quit every match you can't get a 4k in, your going to quit a lot of matches. Expecting a 4k all the time and getting mad when you don't is silly.

Enjoy the game. When things don't go your way (these situations are rare) try to get as many kills as you can. Some of the most fun times in this game involve those days you feel down and out and still get a 4k..

But considering the fact that an average game should have 2k for an average player, and that was very possible, it seems absurd to waste all that time and lose all those bloodpoints when they only had a few gens to choose from, and they could have easily been solo q survivors

I’m never expecting a 4K in matches. I’m not that good. But if I havent even hooked or downed anyone yet and three gens are done I feel like unless I camp I’m not even going to get 1k

There will always be swf just something a killer has to deal with what annoys me the most is people shouting about op killers on this forum without actually playing said killer against a full efficient r1 swf team

When I first started playing this game in Jan I thought a lot of killers were op. Then I played more got better, and then switched to Killer. Changed my perspective and I realized Killers have it way rough. A lot of SWF high ranking teams just play survivor. They never even touch Killer to understand the other side.

    Clown and blight for me.

I haven’t come across Blight enough to even remember his chase music

I love Demos personally! It's just so good.

I can never remember his chase music cause all I hear is demos heavy footsteps and screeching.

Gotta go with Clown. It’s the first chase theme that is actually disturbing in a way

While his chase music is disturbing and I like it I wouldn’t say it’s something to head bang too lol

I find disabling crossplay is worse as youl run into the same red ranks swf constantly only advantage to crossplay off is by the 2nd time you play the same swf you get to know how they play and start owning them the toxic behaviour is just part of the game and it will never change.

I'm a killer main in red ranks and it does do my head in but if you just don't get tilted youl be fine

Most SWF I encounter isn’t from my console, which is PS4. I see a lot of SWF teams on PC

Do what every killer does successfully on this map. Zone to an area where there is gens and proxy camp.

I suppose I would have to.

    "MM is broken!"

There's no easy fix, it can only do what it can with the players who are in the queue.

You either face someone further away from your rank, or you wait an hour in the queue for someone who's a closer match. Which would you prefer?

Honestly I would prefer an option. Like me me the choice to choose to wait for more accurate matches or if I just want to jump in and be what may then that could be an option too if I’m feeling impatient.
