To put things to rest immediately, I play both sides equally. I have nearly 3K hours (yeah not as much as you 15K monsters) but I can safely say that this patch shows just how much survivors relied on being overall busted for 6 years straight. There are so many players just not playing the game because they can't get gens done and bully the killer at the same time now and seeing so many people complain about it is honestly awful to see. The reason the kill rates were so low was that survivor was busted for 6 long years. Thinking otherwise is just... Showing how blind you are. The devs finally said "Alright, we're gonna make changes for the better." And now this game is actually balanced! Yet so many players are literally trying to change the stats so they revert it. Unfortunately the only thing to say to these survivors is... Get good lmao. It's as simple as that. Stop being childish and complaining over huge changes that were bound to happen if the devs cared about the game.
Must have been bad a killer before the update I suppose. Only thing that was broken is SWF and you must never play solo. Please say you do because we all know you be lying.

Unless you see a big portion of killers just stand afk at a corner, its not even remotely the same thing.
People are throwing tantrums in game. It would be sad but when its this widespread its still sad but also annoying. Its like being stuck in a plane with a crying baby. Sure its sad that there is a crying baby in your vicinity but the baby just wont shut up and you are stuck in the same place with it.
Respectfully.
Right and that how the forums were, nothing but killer mains crying. Don't see much of a difference honestly.

Same could be said about killers complaining and getting buffs every patch.

Grind is fine. Just play the character you want to play and put your points into them. Everything will eventually unlock.
I just bought 4 killers to try and get their perks for my main (since soloq is garbage right now) and it is taking forever under the new system to get the perks unlocked without bonuses. I feel bad for any new player that wants to get any perk on survivor or killer to use. The grind is insane now and saying to "just play the character you want" doesn't get the character I want the perks they need to enjoy playing. Under the old system all I had to do is get one to lvl 40 and then I could spend points on my main and get items for them. Now I'm wasting all my bp on killers I will probably never play with.

If each survivor is one game for the killer, than a 1k is 1 win and 3 losses.
Personally I consider 3k a win, whether fourth gets the exit or the hatch, doesn't matter.
Except the hatch doesn't matter at all for the stats they look at to determine what to nerf/buff.

Ok I had this discussion with a friend who is a killer main, He Said Killers Have to play a near perfect game to get a 4k (Pre 6.1 patch - which all can agree is killer sided).
I had said, "Well isn't that the way it should be?". OFC this varies with different lvls of Skill/MMR etc. But, As PVP game with a 4v1 set-up.. Wouldn't it be logical that If 1 survivor does extremely well they should be rewarded? That As Killer You have the strength equal to 4 players and that a "Near perfect Game" should be required to get a 4k?
I Just feel that many killer mains have taken the "challenge" away from being a good killer when they argue against it..
So i'm opening the discussion and would love to hear everyone's opinions on it... Should Killers Have to play a near perfect game to get a 4k? Or Is that really asking too much?
Killer mains just need to stop thinking that a win is only getting 4k. According to the way MMR works the killer is playing 4 different games so each player they hook and sacrifice is a win. So really only killing one survivor should be considered a win for the killer, that's how the game sees it.

If there is a noted increase in this tactic since the patch, then it will eventually be addressed, but having everyone camp on purpose may result in something far worse.
There are choices in how to play, but if there is a type of play you despise, to then emulate this seems counterproductive.
Don't get me wrong: I don't like face-camping (not really worried about tunnelling or proxy camping), especially if its not needed (face-camping endgame I understand though), but this is the wrong way, and I'm sure you're not going to enjoy your games doing it. And why waste your gaming time playing it in a way you won't enjoy?
As a side, they could cpmbat face-camping perhaps either by adding a speedboost to the freed survivor, or taking a leaf out of Pyramid Head and transport a survivor to another hook if the killer is too close for too long (although after all gens are done I'd cancel this effect).
If your choice of playing skews any of the metrics that the devs use to determine buffs/nerfs then its probabaly not a good idea to play that way. Problem is that, based on the responses I got on my post, people just don't care and will do what they want even if it creates a poor gaming experience for a certain group like solo. I do agree with the idea of transporting a survivor to another hook on the opposite side of the map if the killer is camping. That would solve the issue of both camping and tunneling imo.

Yes, but you would be manipulating a situation to a worse point. That isn't BHVR, that's the player.
There are going to be changes in future that can only be useful with proper data. The proposal you presented will only give false data that will mess things up and besides there will be adjustments in future. Suggestions are far more useful.
When I play killer, I shall not be doing this.
Yea I tried to address this when I posted about killers letting survivors live and all I got was a bunch of killers saying they will do what they want or that they let full teams survive all the time. I had a guy post a picture out of spite of him letting all the survivors go in a match. I was also told that BHVR probably accounts for this when figuring out kill rates. So if that's the case then I'm gonna say that they are accounting for people that tunnel and camp on purpose.

@AndreasB said:
i thought a main factor for this update was to stop tunnelling and camping but since the patch Iβve never seen it happen so often before it doesnβt make any sense considering it is now slightly harder to tunnel and killers have been buffed.
But its not harder to tunnel. Count to 5 and you can tunnel. If they wanted to fix tunneling they should have given 60 seconds of endurance when unhooked. You lose endurance for doing literally anything in the game so the amount of time doesn't matter. Even still its just one extra hit. Its still really easy to tunnel past that extra hit anyways.
-
@Marc_go_solo said:
This is not a good idea. One reason why is because it works both ways. If survivors suddenly find every killer face camps, this will spiral. People may not like a change, so unite and do something to force a fake, unrealistic scenario in the hope of change, and when that change is made and people return to normal, then there will be huge discrepencies again.
Another reason is that many more will leave, and if every killer is doing it then everyone simply won't play and the game completely collapses.
There are other reasons, and people may be able to illistrate even better ones, but as far as ideas go this is really problematic and rigs data.
If the game dies because of camping/tunneling its because BHVR refuses to do something about it not because people are doing it. Every match ive played today has been nothing but camping and tunneling and I've played for about 6 hours today.
-
@Seraphor said:
Yes let's add to the problem. Great idea.
I swear all of these campers and tunnellers that have appeared recently are the same people who used to play solo survivor.

You feel cheated playing as survivor and especially when BHVR thinks killers need even higher killrates. Very strange way to balance and great way to run off the majority of the player base.
Every mechanic rigged against the survivor. The hatch can even be totally denied by killer.
Hatch doesn't matter anyways. The devs don't consider the ability to survive actual skill. So the game takes a hatch escape as a tie.

No because the game is survivor vs killer. They nerfed one thing and kept jolt, thana, and many more. Increased speed to damage a gen makes the nerf to ruin almost useless when you have call of brine.

Yes, but let's not fall into the trap of pretending that you get braindead teammates every match. In most matches they're at least trying, and even if they weren't, what exactly would a balance patch change in that regard?
There was plenty that benefit survivor this patch. Not as much as killer, for obvious reasons, but survivors get to benefit from the shaken meta on both sides, hard tunnelling is now completely impossible with tunnelling in general made harder, and the grind reduction benefits everyone too. Specific kinds of camping are still a problem, but it's misleading to only focus on that at the exclusion of the more positive changes.
Grind reduction doesn't matter when a very large portion of the community is solo and they are having a miserable time. Most of my matches are solo and most of the time my team cant even keep the killer busy for any amount of time. When ever killer is running gen reduction perks and no one can keep the killer busy makes it a loss every match. Not to mention the lack of communication in solo is a major issue. When one person goes up on the hook the other three teammates stop their gen and go for the unhook. Which the devs should have know for years now that communication is a huge issue and yet they do nothing about it. This game was more skill based for killer and solo before the update excluding the DH nerf (needed if you ask me).

Not everything that got changed from the PTB was to cater to "killer mains", even if we accept that shockingly unhelpful framing.
The changes they made to the prestige system benefit everyone, and they addressed Overcharge, just off the top of my head.
If we must continue looking at things through the lens of "x side", the survivor side weren't left in the lurch here. There's plenty that benefits survivors, and that side is more enjoyable now too- provided you get a team that doesn't give up, anyway, which admittedly isn't within your control if you play solo lol
And solo probably makes up 70% of games killers are paired against, if not more than that which makes your argument moot. There was almost nothing that benefited survivors this patch. A few perks got a minor buff that's it. Killers recieved a huge buff to perks and base kit. If you can count to 5 you can still tunnel anyone you want and they did nothing to address camping.
-
@jesterkind said:
They categorically did not ignore feedback from the PTB, some pretty significant changes were made that were explicitly because of feedback from a lot of players.
To your point, I'd imagine they're silent because it supposedly being a disaster is a pretty huge claim that isn't really backed up by reality. For a lot of players, myself included, it's been a pretty noteworthy success!
You are 100% right they didn't ignore feedback. They listened to every killer main and they got their way.

Hmm hexes broken in 30 seconds, last generators will be focused, people try to light save/stun save, body block for those who gonna die... nothing new, honestly, like more than 40% of matches are like that.
None of this indicates SWF. Of course the last generator will be focused when there are only 3 left to work on. Light save/stun save... so we should just do nothing to try and save our teammates? Most of the time in soloq when these saves happen all the remaining survivors are focusing the save so no one is working on gen. Hexes get broken because the game tells you that there is a hex for the most part and if you don't take care of the hex you deserve to lose. Most people play soloq which is why these are most of the games killers get paired with.
-
@LittleBigSunset said:

I'll break down for you why solo queue is now even worse than before. And no, it's not because survivors need to 'git gud'.
- With gens now taking even longer than before, this means that coordination and strategy are a must to ensure that the killer is occupied for an extended period of time while gens are still being completed. This is effectively impossible to do in solo queue. There is no base kit kindred. You have no idea what your teammates are running or doing, nor if they are capable of running the killer long enough for anything to get done. It is easy to make mistakes and the killer now has much more time to capitalise on said mistakes which can effectively end the match.
- Killers are guaranteed to have shorter and quicker chases, due to the buffs to pallet breaking, attack cooldown, bloodlust and the nerf to the distance a survivor can make upon being hit. This emphasises that gens need to be repaired and repaired quickly before the survivors start dying and become overwhelmed, and in solo queue this means you need multiple survivors on gens and coordinating efficient saves and chases. Essentially Killers get more room to make mistakes while survivors get far less. This room is amplified by the excellent gen slowdown now available.
- You would think the base kit BT buff would do wonders for solo queue, but as it turns a five second BT that the killer KNOWS you have can easily be waited out, preventing it from any impact bar from if you were getting facecamped and have a pallet two feet from you. This in fact encourages tunnelling and camping because now killers know survivors will (at present, anyway) not be running the perk BT as they technically have a built-in BT for free. DS being nerfed into the ground for no apparent reason (the endgame bit was justified, the rest was not) only encourages tunnelling further and a solo queue team will have little chance of taking the heat off of the tunnelled survivor.
- Camping is further encouraged due to the increased gen times and may in fact reward killers now, especially against a solo queue team that may not be able to coordinate rushing gens.
- The gen slowdown available is stronger against solo queue teams. It is harder to be healed by your teammates in solo queue (that's if they even want to heal you), meaning Thana stacks are more consistent. Call of Brine is particularly good as you have no way of informing your team that the gen you got run off has been kicked, meaning it is likely to regress a fair amount if not all of its progression.
- Nurse got pseudo-buffed by this update rather than nerfed, and she already kicks the ass out of every solo queue team in existence (if they're competent). Have fun being slugged on the floor at five gens and not being able to do a thing about it (my experience for most of my first day of playing post-update).
TLDR: Killers are given much more room to make mistakes while survivors are hardly given any, and solo queue teams are very likely to mess up at some point and be unable to recover. Camping and tunnelling is encouraged even more. Gen slowdown is more impactful against solo teams. Nurse is Nurse.
This is an amazing analysis of soloq. I have always said one of the major issues with soloq is the lack of comms. When a survivor is hooked there is no way to tell others that you will go pull them off the hook. So many times I've been hooked and then watched every other survivor get off their gen to come save me when 2 of them could continue to work on their gens.

Yeah, people are trying out killers because those who only played survivors can now try to play (and maybe win) as a killer, which is healthy for the game.
What would you consider a win as a killer? It seems that most killers only consider a win being 4k.

The numbers are fudged, anyway. BHVR designed a game with a team role that isn't a team role because on their own Steam page they say, "or play selfishly." How do you balance for that? It only takes one survivor to tank the team. One. And yet we don't have HUD icons or anything else to help with coordination. Not long after SBMM went live, BHVR themselves said SWF in higher MMR escape 15% more often, yet we're still here without improvements for solo players.
Survivors skew the numbers more than anyone. Constantly in my solo queue I get people who suicide on the hook or sandbag the team. Survivors who refuse to participate and even touch a generator. How do you adjust the game for that? The game is balanced to be a 4v1, not a 3v1v1 or 2v2v1.
In most of my survivor matches, there's at least one if not multiple survivors who practically do the killer's job for him. Meanwhile, I don't necessarily come across a single friendly killer in a week's time. The overwhelming majority don't even give the hatch to the final survivor. The occasional friendly killer does not make up for the number of survivors who get themselves and their teammates killed. At least not in my region/MMR bracket.
By the way, here's BHVR saying that getting the hatch does not correlate to skill and does not count as a win for the survivor or a loss for the killer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pz7f_WPutq8
Refusing the hatch is unnecessary.
Not if the killer should have gotten the kill in the first place. I've probably said it 3 times now. I know the hatch doesn't matter but the killer could have gotten that kill instead the game doesn't count it toward kill rates because they gave the survivor the hatch. This is why I refuse the hatch because if they have me on their shoulder and can hook me then hook me. That shouldn't be hard to understand.

It has been game etiquette since...basically forever, that the killer gives the last survivor hatch. I know that people still complain in postgame if I don't do this.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3084501#Comment_3084501
Outside of someone AFKing, I've seen this...maybe twice in the last year. It's usually someone smurfing down their MMR, which - I agree - isn't good, but needs a mechanical fix.
That said - the mori changes will fix this all for you anyway.
When I play killer I will give the final survivor the chance to find the hatch before me and if they do gg. If its game etiquette to give the last player the hatch then why do I run into killers that will drop me close to hatch then close it? I guess they didn't get the memo. I am very excited for the mori changes I think it will be a great addition to the game.

I've always thought letting someone go was good sportsmanship. If I crush your team but I can't catch you until it's 1v1 then you go free.
I get the point. It would throw the numbers but it's always been part of the game and not super prevalent.
If the devs knew how to define outliers, which I assume they do, they could prevent it from skewing the data.
So its good sportsmanship for one football team to let the other have the win because they can't score points in that game? So you've never had a game where you got 4k but it was well deserved and the survivors almost escaped but you managed the win? If the devs do define outliers and prevent it from skewing data all they have to do is give the community some insight into how they come up with their numbers instead of just showing a graph of the average number of kills per killer that gets picked.
-

If BHVR doesn't like it, then the game needs a casual mode or something for the non-serious gamers who just want to meme around. Otherwise, I guess I'm stuck in the normal queue letting all four survivors escape. Sucks for BHVR's numbers, I guess.
I've always known I'm theoretically skewing the numbers, but if both of my accounts haven't been blacklisted from BHVR's stats (given how I'm an outlier in terms of how on average maybe 1 out of every 40 survivors I play against dies), then that's on BHVR.
I agree its definitely a BHVR problem if they don't already account for the large amount of the community that seems to let survivors escape. The whole point of my post was to make people aware that by letting survivors go the numbers are skewed and the amount of kills killers are averaging would probably be higher.

Yeah, and also there have been multiple comments that weren't written here because people don't give a #########, they just play DBD and do 4k. I played hundreds of games and only in few killers let all survivors escape. How many such games did you have? I'm assuming it's you who is trolling here, because you must understand that these ultra-rare situations when killers let survivors escape don't make the difference.
I have had plenty of games where the killer lets me or one of my team escape. Fact is that if killers let survivors escape the numbers are skewed. If you can't understand that logic then you should go back to school. Ultra rare situations please, I played for a few hours yesterday with some friends and in 4 games the killer let someone escape. It sounds like you are mad, kinda sad to get mad over facts tbh.
-
The biggest issue that killer mains don't seem to understand is the soloq is suffering big time. Most of the games that killers get paired with are soloq. It will be interesting to see what people have to say when soloq is dead and they are getting paired with nothing but SWF.

Well u are talking about something most people don't care about. So u are gonna have those people.
Regardless its unnecessary. I made this post to have a discussion about it and point out a flaw in the way the devs calculate kill rates. They might even take this into consideration and if they do they should be more transparent on how they come to their numbers instead of just posting a graph for us to look at. If you don't care don't post. Why take time to be an internet troll these people must lead a sad life if this is how they get their joy.
-
@himheart said:
You can't be serious about the numbers, and if you are - I press F.
The amount of killers that let survivors escape is so small that it can't affect statistics in any way. Through my 650h in-game, where I play 75% as a survivor, I haven't met totally friendly killers, which want to farm or just let anyone escape even 10 times. I played nearly 20 games for the last 2 days and only one killer let the last survivor escape. So the situations where I let survivors escape as a killer, or give the killer free kill are just a statistical error because 99.99% of the playerbase play for the win.
There have been multiple comments on this thread of people saying that in multiple games they let full groups of survivors escape. Unless these people are lying to troll the post. Letting survivors escape just skews the metrics and puts them in a higher MMR than they probably should be in which could ruin their gaming experience because they are being paired with higher skilled killers.

I'm so sorry that I play games to have fun rather than win, if I want to mess about and have a fun time with survivors, I will. You can't tell anyone what they should/shouldn't do in a game like this.
I'll change my original comment. People can play the game as they with. The game intends the killer to kill as many survivors as possible. If you want to let survivors escape go for it. Just know that by doing so the devs are not getting accurate numbers to determine whether they need to buff/nerf something.

I understand your concerns about killer mercy invalidating BHVR's data, but let me assure you, killer mercy is an outlier from my own personal experience. When I am the killer I personally sometimes spare survivors. This could be because they did something during the game that made me laugh, they could be wearing an AOT outfit and so I spare time because they bought an expensive skin to support the game, you get the idea.
From my post-patch games as survivor, I have have only been spared a single time. In that one specific instance, the killer was having ping/lag issues and gave up after the other three survivors escaped through the gate. Every match after the patch excluding that outlier I have had to fight tooth and nail doing generators and frantically helping my allies recover. A fair number of times I died, other games I lived, but only because someone else sacrificed themselves to save me off the hook. BHVR will likely assume that there's a 5% or so oversaturation with escape rates from a small number of killers when looking at the data after a while. Your data is safe.
If BHVR does include a 5% oversaturation they should explain that in the developer stream instead of just saying "killer numbers aren't where we want them". More transparancy goes a long way and if they explained how they calculated their kill rates instead of just providing a graph to look at then this whole post could have been avoided. It takes a few extra minutes to explain how they reach their numbers.

I also like my silly games as Bunny Legion playing hide and seek and racing survivors on pallettes.
This game can be incredibly toxic at times. A lot of people forget that games are supposed to be fun. A lot of killers forget that survivors are actual people trying to have fun, and the other way around, survivors forget that killers are real players too.
When some survivors are reduced to hope they'll get AFK killers to finally secure some bloodpoints or do tome challenges, and when some killers are anxious in lobby because they're afraid of being bullied by swfs, a little kindness goes a long way.
So I'll keep giving hatch or sparing people with funny usernames, just like I'll keep complimenting the killers that did a really great job killing my lobby but who in their next games will be called sweaty c*nts.
Yes anyone can play as they want. Its their game so why not, just bringing attention to the fact that the numbers are skewed because killers let survivors go. From the responses I'm getting here it seems like a lot of killers are just letting people escape even letting full parties escape. Proving the point that the numbers are not correct and that killers before the patch were just fine and had no problems getting kills. On top of that there are plenty of killer players that don't interact with the forums that also probably let survivors escape. I'm starting to think that the numbers might be skewed quite a bit more that I originally thought.

You're clearly a man of great principles.... in dead by daylight video game.
Oh your right I'm so terrible for letting the killer get the kill when they should have done it in the first place. Get the kill you deserve it if you can get it.

I've had survivors whine at me for not giving them the hatch in certain situations.
This community is something else, man. "Play the game as intended" actually means "play the game the way I think you should" and in a 1v4 there's going to be four different expectations about how the killer should play, and the odds are that at least two of those are going to conflict.
I've just stopped caring at this point because it's impossible to play "acceptably" for everyone, but I never thought I'd see the day when survivors complained about the killer being too nice. Geez laweez.
Your objective as killer is to get as many survivors as you can. If you wanna let survivors go then do that just know that when you do you are skewing the numbers. It seems that a lot of the killers on this post are saying they will let full groups of survivors escape in multiple games they are playing. If this keeps happening of course the average is going to be off. Play how you want to but the game is intended for the killer to get as many survivors as their skill can allow. Same with survivors if they are better than the killer they deserve the win. Letting survivors escape doesn't help them to be better at the game.

What about when survivors open the exits, but then try to get a final hook rescue, play overly altruistic and turn a 1K into a 4K?
Killers should refuse to kill survivors once the exit gates are open so they don't skew the figures.
No if the killer out plays the survivors for trying to save someone then they deserve the kill. What type of comment is that, at that point they are just playing the game. My issue is when a killer will drop someone on the hatch or open the gate and just let them run past them.

This post might be the best evidence I've seen that people will complain about anything. One more item to add to the killer rule book, I guess. How many pages are we up to now?
Then just play the game as intended. Get the kill if you can and if the survivor out plays you then good for them. If every killer played to get as many kills as possible and didn't let people escape then the numbers would be correct simple as that. If you cant understand that im sorry. Please by all means continue to complain about people complaining though. π

@CyberRoninX looking at old records it comes from a Q&A back in Oct 2021. The original q&a I can't find but there are many people who go over it and complain about it. Otz being one of them.
I have seen no metion of them changing this. For steam users most stat websites like https://dbd-stats.net/ show how many hatch escapes so they are clearly counted differently. so no hatch doesn't count
Again I don't care if hatch counts or not. If a killer picks you up and puts you on the hatch they should have gotten the kill. Even if the game considers it not being a win or loss the killer didn't get that one kill they should have and it skews the numbers.

Exactly. This guy is also probably just lying. A lot of flexing on the forums but I think homeboy sprints to that hatch if they let him
Nope. I will stand around if the killer should have killed me. I will lay on the hatch till I die. Meet me in the fog and ill go ahead and prove it. BP means nothing when you have all the perks already unlocked.

Nah. I play the way I do because it's fun for me, and i enjoy everyone getting something out of it. If the devs can't take that into account with their stats, that's on them. I punish afkers, survivors who ######### on thier teammates, and survivors who decide to push it too far with me, but otherwise we are gonna do some chases, I'm gonna get my 8 hook states, i might mess with the survivors heads a little, and everyone is going out the gates unless they fall into the previously mentioned catagories (or I forget which hook everyone is on). I care not a bit about BHVR's stats.
Just another killer proving my point that they will let an entire party escape which does skew the metric.

I personally think that both survs and killers should play the way they want, I've never played any game until today besides DBD from which people create rules on how to play the game, the game has broken things, many, but the devs who have to fix this
Play how you want. That won't change the fact that by letting survivors go the numbers are skewed even if its only 1% (which imo its probably more).

There have always been killers that let the last survivor go, or farm after a really good exciting match. I know because I'm one of them and I've been playing since before clown. You come off like you want killers to tryhard every match with no mercy so you can then say kill rates are inflated. Thats some fisher price level psychology, man. I'll show mercy if I feel like it. You really, REALLY want those killer nerfs don't you?
Nope I've actually stated that killers needed a buff. The buffs they got destroyed solo queues which are most of the games that killers get paired against. They need a way to distinguish SWF from solo. The point of the game is for a killer to kill the survivors. Play the game as intended and this wouldn't be an issue. It's funny to because people keep posting about how they let survivors escape all the time which kinda proves that it happens quite often and does skew the number. Try not to be so condescending with your comment it really shows your character as a person.
