People are genuinely not having fun anymore while playing because they only look to win. They will have the most boring, repetitive games if it means an escape/4K. Play for fun. If winning is fun, then let having fun be winning. You don't need to play every game like it's a cash cup, because that only makes it more frustrating when you lose. If you no longer get any enjoyment from playing, stop. It's that simple.
I get the sentiment, however, due to how both the devs and the majority of the community decided to be as tryhard/sweat rags with a game that the devs tried to say is not competitive but adds competitive systems it has gone a bit too far for anyone one to really reel back and play more for the enjoyment and hell even sometimes at the cost of good sportsmanship.
And to anyone else going to deny or say like " If it's not fun then don't play" really think about it. first, look at what this game has become both constant victim-blaming from killers for poor balancing to make the game both fun and enjoyable while at the same time encouraging dirty tactics and survivors for lack of a better phrase "bitching and moaning and bitching and bitching and bitching" about killers doing anything except contorting to a made-up ruleset that even they can't follow due to the I-frame abuse of dead hard and using a term that was made for something that the game doesn't factor at all. Then on top of all that the same majority end up flooding people's accounts and forum messages basically complaining about the same problems that the same community ended up creating topped of then by a dev team who by this point has to know the problems and the actual toxic attitudes it cultivated and does nothing about but egg it on because they want to make it where IMO it becomes a game much like a fighting game where it is more about the competition/high-level play/ esports bullshit without actual understanding of what that entails.
I am sorry if I am coming across as a jackass but I want to enjoy it much like the OP wants to however, the truth as much as it hurts needs to be said inorder to fix it.

If you're asking how BHVR could improve the grind, there's so many ways they could do it. Remove perk tiers. Increase the number of perks per bloodweb. Remove ineffective offerings (blueprints, fog, luck, broken keys, cut coins... shrouds mostly need to be switched between killers and survivors.) Make all item purchases cheaper. Increase the amount of bloodpoints earned per match, especially on the survivor side.
If you're asking how you as a player can improve the grind... yeah, pretty much BBQ. Avoid unlocking teachables you don't want to use. And play killer, because they make more bloodpoints on the whole.
both and for playing killer that's what I do and it leads to aggravation due to the obvious and unfortunately leads to constant ruts where its trying to get the learnable perks first then leveling up and the amount obtained as killer is lessened and lessened.
-
@Fantasy said:
If the perk you want isn't there then avoid all the other perks in the web and try to get all yellow and brown add-ons to move to the next web for minimum bloodpoints, that's what works for me anyway.
and it does for a while but eventually due to how the bloodweb is it can get line blocked to where you can't get it
-
@Grandpa_Crack_Pipe said:
Removing perk tiers would be a great step.
Or maybe starting you one tier higher for every level of prestige you have.
Or just double blood points. Not sure what would be better.
To be honest why not just scrap the bloodweb and use a normal level up system maybe have it where you earn your perk slots then some basic level cosmetic parts and use the store to buy the perks and addons at a slightly higher bp price
-
@lauraa said:
Since were never gonna get rid of worthless offerings, even just 2x BP is enough honestly.
Like I said my luck must suck cause I dont get survivor pudding that would help just the 25% increase
-
"Survivors need the meta perks"
-
Welp sorry survivors but to be honest with how the game's balance and such is right now you kinda deserve the longer times since most people who want to play killer either quit or lobby hop constantly to try and not deal with the bullshit meta

Well guess what? I think people already know this. And if they call it a horror game you could assume they basically mean it's horror themed because everyone knows this.
I guess

@oxygen said:
Correct, it's a horror themed multiplayer action game or whatever you want to call it. Which is basically the best thing you can hope for in any game people play for hundreds if not thousands of hours without heavy potentially arbitrary restrictions on player choice to make people play "the right way".
True but given the current state maybe they need to.

DBD is a horror game that isn't supposed to be taken seriously in the horror genre. It also gets stale and boring fast once you get used to everything.
So a parody right? But then why does it feel so soulless and empty instead of a no-so-serious game?

Yes, because it was unfair.
The ‘horror’ comes from the unfairness, ino. That just doesn’t work if you want to ‘balance’ a PvP game. They are quite obviously mutually exclusive.
Yes and no There is a sense of unfairness but not where it should be. Why else do you think there is so much on how much people hate playing killers then ######### cause the wait times as survivor are so long and no joke there are videos and forums on how to have fun as killers not perk wise just having fun in general. As for friday the 13th like I said it was a broken mess people falling through the world glitches and so on but the feeling of it was there.

@Marc_go_solo said:
It's meant to be horror-themed, but as you mentioned in one of the posts, it doesn't feel like one.
A large part is because of getting used to how things work. And that's only one aspect: the changed survivor animations make them more like anime characters posing when slamming a pallet down, or running from a killer as if on a daily jog (basically, the old animations); the growing obviousness of the map layouts; people learning this game from all the tip videos; the strange "us vs them" mentality and so on.
I'm not wanting it to necessarily be pure horror, but for a game horror comes a lot from unpredictability. More chaotic map set-ups, extra things on maps like traps (the pumkins that either sped you up or slowed you down were a good idea), more meaningful offerings that alter the maps climate (not just a mist thing, but maybe make it pure night or heavy rain, which in turn may have an effect on movement or abilities and perks. I remember playing the first Silent Hill game; not knowing what to expect and it was terrifying! But I play it now and knowing all the aspects takes a lot of the fear away.
Basically, the game won't ever be scary, but from a horror perspective it can gain it if the devs take more risks. As for the game itself, it is horror but the novelty of it makes it a very unconvincing horror with any scares remaining coming from sneaky plays than the game itself.
Very true on that

Those are all singleplayer games, to my knowledge, which can pull off far more ”horror” than any PvP game can. Enemies can spawn in whenever and wherever, the play area is linear and tells its own stories, voice-acting can be a thing without it becoming basic “I did this attack.”
I know they are but whenever someone brings up horror its usually a combination of them. If we are talking pvp friday the 13 got it to a point it just sucked as a game on technical fronts.

But… feelings are ENTIRELY subjective. And you are already arguing with people who assured you they feel like DbD deserves to be called a horror game.
so.. why do you think your feelings are the ones that are ‚right‘?
And besides a few parts, Resident Evil is even more action over horror than DbD. Not only part 6. haven’t played the others.
It is subjective that part is true but there are still universal feelings that when someone walks up to you and asks "Hey I want to play a horror game what do you recommend or what's your favorite horror game." Along with the follow-up question of why. on the resident evil front4 on easy 5 and 6 are but I was more pointing to 1-4 and 7 haven't played 8 yet and I am not saying mine are the right one I am just saying my opinion and why that is.
Also, I mean it when I ask this when someone ask "Hey I seen that so and so is in dead by daylight how is it" how long until the negatives creep its ugly head to you

If it bothers you that much to make a thread why are you playing? Has it got more and more disney of late...maybe but do we really want survivors hiding in bushes all day scared to do anything? The hide and seek game is not as appealing as what we have now...I know this because i used to try to get friends to play (when i was new before i knew better) and they said " I dont want to play hide and seek ".
Maybe because it needs to be said instead of the usual problems of survivors bitching about everything, killers swearing to not play anymore leading to the game sometimes being a waiting room simulator, the dev team showing they don't care, and a hacker haven that never gets fixed, and a toxic landfill filled with the most abhorrent people that the devs seem to think is ok. Maybe its also the feeling that while it may look like a horror game it has no soul anymore.

Where is it even advertised as a pure horror game?
and why are visuals not enough for a video game to be considered a genre?
No it needs to have the feeling as well and tell me do you feel like this is a legit horror game. Think of games that are always brought up when it comes to horror fatal frame, silent hill, resident evil other than 6, amnesia do any of them just rely on visual or is there more to it?
-
@Mooks said:
Why do you even think that you can decide what counts as a horror game and what doesn’t?
the horror genre has high variety. And DbD has many motives that undeniably counts as horror
That can be also asked as well. Besides fleeting moments and visuals, why is this advertised as a horror game and not what is actually is an action game with horror elements?

Did it? You have said it more than enough.

it's a horror themed asymmetric multiplayer game and i think that's fine. you just can't get actual horror in a game where every character is controlled by a person. animations and movement always look weird and gameplay won't match the tone. i do think the neon cosmetics are pretty dumb and don't look good, would love to see more, well, good outfits.
To a point that can be true but it doesn't feel like a horror game, it may look like one but just like I said to another looking like it only matters part of the time.

Please explain cause how does this connect to the olympics I don't see false advertisements and a meeting ground for the spawn of satan's anus. That is unless you are insinuating that it connects because just like this game everyone else feels like ######### when losing to an athlete who dopes.

Its got horror characters but its only creepy for a short time.
Now it can still make me jump here and there.... here some examples.
Working a gen and notice myers staring at you through a window. Hear ghostface straps when working a gen or opening a chest. A very fast ogre in flames flying in your direction.
Again it's still not a horror game. If this is considered a horror because of examples like that everything from fnaf to half of Nintendo's library is as well.

its horror themed, but i dont think it was ever intended to be focussed on horror.
its much more of a slasher game that includes violence and action rather than a creepy atmosphere and scares.
It's labeled and advertised as a horror game though. Maybe games have horror themes and elements but aren't called that and considering it a slasher game means in that it fails on that too since TBH IMO for as buggy and broken of a game as it is friday the 13th did that better

It's internet tag with a horror skin. Scary for the first ten hours, then you learn how to play the game.
Though there's still some genuinely scary things in this game. ...Mostly centered around Myers, between scratched mirror, the threat of tombstones, and this really spooky build I played against a week ago that involved permanent T3 and Plaything.
While I don't contest survivors are unbalanced when it comes to streamlined play, the game was far more survivor-sided at its genesis. Most killer powers were annoying and time-consuming to use, true infinites, pallets everywhere, permanently sabotaged hooks... it's not a shift, it's the "always has been" meme.
So it's an action multiplayer game with horror elements then. And the mentality of "Always has been" has led it to become more and more of a migraine magnet and a complete joke it seems.

I can understand if you enjoy a game overall but critical of choices developers make and voice those criticisms. I've done it myself many times.
What I don't understand is people who claim a game is absolute trash, want to see it die, claim they have no fun, etc, etc. If you have this much misery with a game, it's time to find a new one to play. Life is too short to hang around forums complaining about a game you just don't enjoy.
Quit and move on.
Well I can tell for the complaining I can tell that just people wanting the devs to do something about it. But, it gets overshadowed by " complaining", and for the other part think about it like this where do you go if there are no other options?

Which is very fair and understandable, I just felt the points should be presented as it is an argument I've seen before on this subject. If I'm being perfectly honest with my actual opinion on the matter above, I think the points hold some weight of truth to them but are very weak as a counter argument to keeping BM in the game.
As for my actual thoughts on BM, I don't get bothered and generally don't even care about this issue in the first place so I normally ignore these type of threads. I wouldn't be effected in the least if all BM from both sides was taken out, left in or made worse. I tend to play very chill and let everyone go or just meme around and even when I do play serious and get BM'd I'm not phased in the least. I just move on without a care in the world. Even if I do somehow get mad it's only ever for a couple minutes and then I lose interest in whatever it was that annoyed me.
I just happened to see this thread again, wasn't doing anything and thought I'd chime in once more from earlier as I noticed no one had yet brought up the age rating and genre which I've seen debated with before on this subject.
I hope you have a good one though and I meant no ill intentions.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2692705#Comment_2692705
Which I very much agree with. I think some minor BM and smack talk is par the course but death threats, racism, etc is never okay and should be punished accordingly.
Yeah and unfortunately it always lead to that way of thinking is the more abhorrent behaviour especially due to the way the game is now where most fun is overshadowed by the amount of bs that this game brings to people and honestly I can see why a lot quit and basically swear to never play this again.

You can't nerf most of the survivor meta perks.
Because they're really weak perks. The only ones that stand out as potential problems are BT, DH and IW. And that last one is apparently bugged.
BT should remove collision for its duration so it can't be used offensively, DH is much more difficult to balance.
But particularly DS and UB are really weak perks with very conditional application, limited value, and unbelievably easy counterplay. I never got hit by them once I learned to recognise a survivor trying to bait out a DS, rendering the perk entirely useless.
There's an issue with the whole 'second chance' angle, too, in general: Survivors have three hook states. The game is designed from the ground up to give survivors three chances. The fact you're complaining about perks that try to ascertain that survivors get a second chance shows you're not interested in giving them a fair shot.
Don't tunnel, don't camp, don't slug.
If killers never did any of those, DS, UB and BT would die out immediately.
So don't camp, slug or tunnel but allow body blocks, flashlight saves, sabos and hook Swarming?

I'm 31 now but as a kid smack talk during and after a game was pretty common and all in good fun. After the game everyone would hang out and grab food or what not and just chill. No one would ever hold grudges and it's not like anyone was friends either. It was just neighborhood kids hanging out playing a game.
Maybe growing up with that has made me more numb or less empathetic but I have a hard time understanding why people hold on to the negative emotions from BM. I completely get being annoyed in the first place but when people hold onto it for hours or even longer instead of just letting it go or finding and outlet to make then feel better, that I don't understand.
It's a tough topic though. I don't think one should teach kids to be happy over someones misery by any means but at the same time, it's important for people to learn how to cope with negative emotions as well as negative people/experiences. Should one learn/experience that as a kid or an adult? Personally, I'm happy I experienced it as a kid as trying to learn how to cope with negativity as an adult while having very little experience with it is a rather scary thought to me.
Sorry, I'm getting a bit off topic now and it's delving more into human psychology which I'm hardly qualified to properly talk about.
I think For that it's wouldn't be so bad if people just knew when to quit or at the very least do it in a way that doesn't go to far to where it normally does I.E Death threats, racist #########, harassment and so on. People can taunt and such and Still give a level of respect but unfortunately it seems to be the former than the latter in most cases.

Now before you assume anything, I do not bm at exit gates. I never have, never will. It’s a waste of my time and I’d rather just get on to my next game.
Now, that does not mean I condone bming. It's completely pointless and only spreads negativity.
But even so, I’ve seen countless amounts of complaint after complaint of people crying about toxic survivors tbagging and flashlight clicking in the exits during endgame. I do not care that so many survivors do this, I just care about the people complaining about it!
Why Should You Care? Why get mad at these individuals who are only doing this because it’s funny to them? There is nothing to get yourself worked up over. Just please, just do this thing:
PUSH THEM OUT!!! This is the easiest way to end the bming and get on with your life. Sure, you can farm your power or just ignore them and break pallets and doors, and by all means, go do that. But just pushing them out of the dang gate should always be your first thought. It’s what I do every time any survivor is still in the exit, wether they are being toxic or not.
The only things that happen because of this are good things:
- You can get an extra hit or use your power once more.
- Maybe they don’t leave and now you have a free hook.
- (This is the most important one) THE GAME ENDS.
So please, everyone just shut up about toxic survivors in the exits and just move on with your life. Thank you.
It depends on person to person I guess but for me at least it's a mixture of three things 1. It's a waste of time if you don't encourage it since they will stay to the last second at times 2. It can add salt to the wounds (Figuratively) to the ending of a bad match 3. Continues to show how childish and disrespectful people can be.
