  • Is there a penalty? Do you actually lose anything for an unsafe unhook? To my knowledge, there's nothing in the game that causes you to actually lose points… 🤨

  • No way. Toolboxes are completely burned out in two seconds, and any progress they make on the gen is instantly deleted when the Killer kicks it, with or without regression perks.

If you need to find people quicker, you can run Lethal Pursuer and/or Corrupt Intervention.

  • I'd trade blindness for exhaustion. I don't think we need both.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/409350/hitting-survivors-on-hook

As soon as they do something about tbagging at exit gates, then we can talk about hitting on hook. I have thousands of hours and bagging at gates is BY FAR more common than hitting on hook.

At least YOU can do something about it: Run after them and swing your weapon. Whether you get a hit or not, it's guaranteed that they'll stop the teabags and run out the gate.

For the person being hit on hook, there is NOTHING they can do about it.

  • Went against a camping Bubba once. Every person he hooked, he just sat and camped while the rest of us busted out gens. In the endgame chat, Bubba told us, "Don't genrush." Well, come over and stop us then.

I probably have more that I'll put later...

  • Yeah, I wish I could bring more BPS, but I just don't have enough of them. I have way more escape cakes.

Though once we hit that 400% goal (if we haven't already), I could burn a few BPS next time I play...

  • I'd be very happy if they extended the event, but I kind of don't see it happening. We'll see, though...

  • Yeah, Killers love to defend tunneling, we all know it's miserable for Survivors, but what people don't talk about is that it's actually detrimental for Killers as well.

Why? Because those Killers aren't upping their skills, and then they face the higher MMR Survivors with higher skill, and tunneling will no longer work, but the Killer won't know how to do anything else.

It also screws up their stats so that the devs won't help the Killers that actually need the help. They'll look at the stats of any weak M1 Killer, see the number of kills they have (that they only obtained via tunneling), and decide, "Oh, that Killer has enough kills; they don't need any buffs."

So these are additional reasons why tunneling needs to be scrapped. I may have an idea that I'll post in a new thread...

  • This would be a good idea, to give the unhooked Survivor a chance to reach safety while the unhooker takes the heat. It certainly worked during the Lights Out mode. I was honestly baffled at all the complaints about tunneling in the Lights Out matches because it was so ridiculously easy to lose the Killer without the scratch marks to track you. I have a video where I compiled clips of some of my stealth plays, and other moments where Killers got the drop on me. XD

  • Mandy had posted a comment recently in a different thread saying to go ahead and make the report, even if you're not 100% sure. They can check out the player in question to determine if they were hacking.

I had a similar thing happen to me, except it was a teammate who was hacking. Whenever I got downed by the Killer (Chucky), they'd do something from across to map to make him drop me immediately. It looked like I had infinite Decisive Strike even though I hadn't even been hooked. The Killer even tried leaving me slugged, but the hacking teammate got me picked up from the distance with Buckle Up (At least he legit ran that, and I was also running Soul Guard). The only evidence showing the teammate as the hacker was that they had two of the same add-ons attached to their medkit.

At the time I was afraid to report it because of that illusion that I was the one doing the hacking. (The Killer probably did report me for that reason, too.) I can only assume that the devs did check me out and found that I had no hacks. But I saved the video of that match to my highlights just to I could ######### at it anytime I want. And that hacker was also streaming, so I saved a video of the match from their perspective, too. XD

  • Of the four cosmetic sets in the shop, only the Skull Merchant's outfit is not a linked set. It kind of sucks, because I like the dress of Mikaela's outfit, but I hate the headpiece... 😭

  • I don't think they've ever changed a challenge because the community found it "too difficult." The only times I've seen challenges changed was when they were actually physically impossible to complete (i.e. a challenge requiring the use of flashlights was changed when flashlights got killswitched), or if it causes accessibility issues (like when the original orange glyph challenge caused motion sickness for some people).

  • @MaTtRoSiTy said:

As much as I just cant be bothered farming, I get some people do and personally I would NEVER report people for doing this.

With all the toxic and unpleasant things going on in DBD a bit of farming is probably the least harmful, I will try to just get out of the match as fast as possible though but no way on Earth I would report anyone for this.

The only farming I ever reported was the AFK bot killers that thankfully no longer exist due to AFK penalties

Exactly. I don't understand why farming bothers people so much, when there are many way worse behaviors running far more rampant. I wouldn't want farming every single game, but they're actually rare, and I see it as a breath of fresh air.

It is ridiculous that we as players have to record matches for such stuff to be reported... I cannot think of any other game where this required.

Not to be disrespectful but the fact that I as a normal play need to have a recording software setup just for the case I might encounter a cheater or something else worthy of a report makes the whole report system worthless.

While I do understand the inconvenience of this requirement, I can see why they have it in place. Otherwise, there'd be false reports everywhere. I, in particular, have a very strong pet peeve against people who accuse me of things I didn't actually do.

In the meantime, Off the Record needs to activate 10 seconds AFTER being unhooked or unhooking yourself.

Basekit off-hook endurance covers the first 10 seconds. It's absurd that the killer hitting the survivor immediately off-hook eats the off-hook endurance AND the Off the Record endurance. An anti-tunnel perk countered by being tunneled. 🤪

So if you immediately get hit off hook, you'll be in deep wound when OTR activates, which won't help at all.

  • Maybe when Killers quit tunneling, we can talk about nerfing OTR, but we all know that's not going to happen. And DS doesn't really nerf tunneling, even with the five-second stun; if anything, it only encourages tunneling even more.

  • Idk how small they are, but I think they should be like the size of the boon radius.

  • So when they start moving and get rid of the crow, then Hope would reactivate? I don't see the point...

This behavior is part of the reason people don't want to continue playing at times. You're throwing a tantrum because you're not getting unhooked right now!!! And threatening to ruin the match for everyone else. The lack of self awareness is staggering. Just play it out. It might end up better than you expect.

I give people a fair chance, but if I'm about to hit second phase, and my teammates are still sitting on their asses across the map, not even making an attempt to save, I don't see a reason to wait any longer. They clearly don't need me if they don't want to save. They've already ruined the match for the team by allowing me to go to second phase.

It just displays like a normal DC to all players, but the anti-AFK mechanic only triggers if you sit completely still as Killer. Moving counts as activity so the system hardly does anything to counter AFK Iridescent Shard farming.

So then you actually can AFK in that match, since you've obviously done something.

  • "Additionally, to make matters even worse, I cant even AFK the match either, since the anti-AFK system will just kick me and give me a DC penalty for a match that is effectively pointless to play."

I've never seen that happen with an afk Killer, or does it just not show for Survivors that the Killer gets an afk DC penalty?

  • Lately I've been finding that a good way to tell your teammates to get off their behinds and get you is to start to throw on hook. Make one attempt to kobe on first hook, or miss one skill check on second hook. They'll usually come to get you at that point. And if not? Well, gg next. There's no reason to stick around if teammates are intentionally griefing you like that.

Really, we have stuff like this going on, and then people wonder why Survivors give up on hook...

  • I'm not sure what you mean by "consolidating all your perks across survivors/killers." We can already unlock the character perks for all other characters in that role by prestiging them.

For item consolidation, I'd love that for sure, at least for Survivors. For Killers, they don't use items, and each one has unique add-ons, so the only things they'd be able to share would be the offerings.

  • I think I've done it once, maybe more. The last notable example I can remember is when a Trickster stood in my face. I unhooked myself, and he hit me as soon as my feet touched the ground, eliminating my endurance. And then he tunneled from there.

So the anti-facecamp got me nowhere, and I don't plan to unhook myself with it again...

  • @Skillfulstone said:

Huh, that's actually a decent idea.

Only downside is that it might encourage Killers to play less "nice" since Survivors won't de-pip anyway.

Although since 7.5.0 tunnelling has been at an all-time-high so it might not change much.

Imo de-piping shouldn't be a thing anyway for either side. With how rampant tunnelling is, in almost every games there's at least one Survivor losing pips.

That is an interesting idea indeed. Maybe they should make the offering "secret" so Killers won't be aware that the Survivor won't de-pip? Though I would think it'd be easier to just remove de-pipping entirely, and I'd be all in favor of that.

For tunneling, I wonder if it'd be a fitting enough punishment to make a Killer de-pip if they hook the first Survivor three times in a row, regardless of what they do afterwards...

  • I don't understand why so many Killers think that when the first two or three gens pop, the world is over. They have so much comeback and snowball potential as the game continues, it's insane. On the other hand, if Survivors lollygag or aren't efficient on the gens from the start, they lose. There is very little room for mistakes, and zero comeback potential for them after a bad start. That's why tunneling is so effective, and that's why Survivors give up on hook. I would say it's "unfair," but the Killer is supposed to be the power role, so maybe it is fair, idk...

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/406967/a-radical-solution-to-boring-killer-tactics-like-tunneling

It's not really supposed to be called tunneling. It's called killing, the role is killer. Survivors have a set of gears in their logo because they can efficiently do generators, if I were to say survivors were tunneling their objective it would sound silly because that's their objective/profession. The killers have a skull as a logo, this means death and there's no way around this unless we want to change the name of the game. I gotta say, I'm surprised to see this up, the developers have pretty much gutted all of the killer strategy, survivors have multiple basekit functions including ones that offer free haste and invulnerability after being unhooked without the fear of a hook grab so it's pretty much free now especially with those healing changes that didn't go through, along with many ways to prevent the killer from actually getting started in the first place, and last but not least followed by an easily accessible objective. The thing about dbd survivor is that you actually have to learn how to survive, the developers have paved the way for your role along with making most of the killer roster useless. There's not much else they can do other than completely restrict killers from well killing. It all sounds very silly I know but at least it's all here on the table so we can move on and understand what killers have to do. The game is Dead By Daylight and killers kill, and the survivors survive.

Tunneling does not mean killing; it is only a strategy/playstyle with which to kill. And contrary to the belief of Killer mains, is it NOT the only way to win/kill.

If the "gutted strategies" you're talking about are camping and 3-genning via the anti-facecamp mechanic and the supposed "3-gen nerf," I can assure you those have not nerfed those strategies in any way. Killers have already adapted to work around the anti-facecamp mechanic in several ways, and all the 3-gen nerf does (all it's SUPPOSED to do) is ensure that the match actually ends. The 3-gen scenario is still a very bad spot for Survivors to be in.

I also think that some people misunderstand why tunneling is a problem. It's not that Killers killing Survivors is a problem, it's the bad experience it brings for both sides. Survivors obviously because they get eliminated early without being able to do anything, and likely leaving them wondering why they even bothered to queue up for the match. People like to tell Survivors to improve at looping, and I would agree, but they can't improve if they keep getting eliminated early. On the Killer side, tunneling requires no perks, no skill, and no effort, but it's an easy way to get kills. However, getting those kills will only cheese their MMR into a bracket that's way above their actual skill level, and they'll face Survivors who are better at looping. Focusing on one Survivor alone will incentivize the other three to bust out three different gens as fast as they can (which I understand is another major complaint from Killer mains). Suddenly, tunneling, the only strategy that the Killer knows, is ineffective. What will they do then? They'll feel as helpless as the lower-MMR Survivors did when they got tunneled out of every match.

  • The other problem with tunneling is that it's not even worth trying to counter either. Because even if by some miracle you manage to run the Killer for all five gens and escape, you'll still more than likely de-pip because you won't have any points on objectives or altruism.

  • One thing I'd like to see in Midwich is more ways to get upstairs. I can't count how many times I've had to run to the opposite corner of the map to get upstairs, trying to save a teammate that was hooked up there. It should have a staircase in every corner if nothing else.

  • @Gabe_Soma said:

To play survivor is to accept the fact that you have lost a game before you even start it.

This is probably the truest statement in DBD history. Survivors have to really stay on top of the gens to even have a ghost of a chance of winning. If they don't, or the Killer gets too many hooks early on, there is zero comeback potential for them. Meanwhile, Killers have insane comeback potential as gens get done (meaning fewer gens to patrol), pallets get broken (creating more deadzones and making it more difficult to loop), and strong endgame perks (NOED, No Way Out, Blood Warden). This is why all these complaints about gens flying too fast is extremely baffling to me.

  • As a solo queue Survivor main, I take it day by day. Some days are good and some days are bad. Whatever happens, I know I'll get all Survivors to P9 eventually, and then I'll start grinding my main (Dwight) to P100. I don't know if there's anything the devs can do that will change the general outcome of games, or escape/kill ratios.

I know you are immensely survivor sided but lets here it, why are bots so beneficial to the killer? They do gen instantly if out of killer tr which genuinely is more than the average survivor, they dodge certain killer powers far better than you could and they have a couple of base line problems. But that's a lot better than nothing, doesn't matter if killer has pr/pop, you'd be lying to yourself to say that are purely beneficial for killers. Again I know you are super survivor sided but damn, every time you post it gets worse.

I could explain that with a few examples. I was watching a streamer once, who had a Jill DC. The streamer died earlier on but spectated the remainder of the match, where the teammates finished the gens. The Jill bot was on the door while the other teammates stood beside her, and she had it 99ed when she heard the terror radius and fled. Everyone panicked, and the Killer got them all. If only the bot had committed and finished opening the door, they all could have escaped, but instead it screwed them over.

A few more ways in which bots benefit the Killer more: a Survivor can't DC to deny the Killer the mori anymore; the Killer can just mori the bot instead. If a Survivor gets hooked in the basement by a camping Killer (especially Trapper or Hag), DC'ing would just mean that the teammates would have to risk themselves to save the bot instead. I personally would rather not leave a bot in that situation.

And as mentioned above, when two Survivors remain and one of them is slugged, that person can't DC to spawn hatch for the one standing. The slugged bot certainly has no benefit for the Survivor there.

  • Yeah, that's odd how they would do that.

Alternatively, they could have the Nea challenge switch places with one of the Alan challenges...

  • @LazyClown said:

So that's now the killers fault? The survivor objective is easily accessible. You act like survivors magically get thrown on hooks now?

You're saying we should just stop doing gens. Like that's going to stop you from tunneling. You know it won't.

  • Back in December I went against the most wholesome Wesker ever. I spent most of the match busting out gens, and then had a decent chase in the late game, allowing the teammates to finish the last gen. But then I was caught and put on my first hook. The teammates just up and left, and I died on first hook. In the endgame chat, the Killer said they were sorry the teammates left me and that I was fun in the chase, and we wished each other Happy Holidays.

Then in the very next match, I got the same Wesker again. I had a hunch it was the same person, since they had the same S.T.A.R.S. uniform and had Ultimate Weapon as one of their perks. We didn't do as well this time; we only had two gens done. When the teammates were dead, I was lucky enough to find hatch on my own. He found me and nodded; I chucked a snowball at him for giggles as I went into the hatch. Then in the endgame chat, the Killer said they wanted to make sure I got hatch this time.

These matches were also saved in my Twitch highlights. XD

  • The anti-facecamp mechanic is too easy to play around in any case. I recently faced a Killer who knew how to play around it, and it did NOT involve standing just outside of range. This Killer stood in front of me, allowed the self-unhook to happen, and then smacked me just as my feet touched the ground, immediately eliminating my endurance hit, and then proceeded to tunnel me from there.

So yeah, the anti-facecamp doesn't do jack.

  • @Dreigonix said:

Skill issue. If you don't wanna be tunneled, run OTR and DS.

"Skill issue" because you can't win without tunneling?

  • A couple of bundles would be nice. Perhaps they could do it like they bundled up the older DLC's, maybe four Survivor shirts in a pack?

So you aren’t really looking for answers; you’re seeking validation. Why not phrase the topic as such? “I’m not looking for answers or discussion, I want an echo chamber where what I think is right is validated by others.” You could have saved a lot of people’s keystrokes here.

The 4% exists to twist up the knickers of people who despise any sort of survivor agency.

That sounds accurate. Heaven forbid that Survivors should be allowed to have a second chance when it's already near impossible to turn the game around when things are going badly for them. Killers, on the other hand, can turn the game around much more easily after a bad start. Heck, even NOED alone can do that.

  • @LazyClown said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/406344/stop-the-tunneling

Just stop doing gens then lol. You realize how ridiculous that sounds as well?

Lol, even if Survivors stopped doing gens, Killers would still tunnel.

  • This community is so confusing. In every other discussion, no one can come up with a single reason why the 4% mechanic exists. Now here, there's a whole list of reasons.

The other thing that confuses me is that so many people claim that the 4% mechanic is outdated, but no one can explain how. When the ranking system that was used for matchmaking was changed to a monthly grading system that has nothing to do with matchmaking, the depipping mechanic no longer made sense. That is an example of an outdated mechanic. However, nothing has changed about hooks to render the 4% mechanic outdated. The only thing that's changed is the addition of scourge hooks, and maybe some hook spawn locations, but that does not affect the 4% in any way, shape, or form.

  • I don't know what's worse, that Killers "need" to tunnel in order to win, or whenever the discussion comes up, Killer mains jump in with the same argument: "So tunneling Survivors is a problem and tunneling gens isn't?"

If you feel that gens are popping too fast, you're not spreading enough pressure. That's something that can be worked on, regardless of which Killer you play.

And if high MMR games are that sweaty, why are you trying to get or keep your MMR up there? That sounds more stressful than it's worth. Wouldn't it be worth it to lower your MMR so you can play some more chill games?

Either way, it's okay to lose sometimes. But people just don't seem to get that, they want to win 100% of the time or else the world ends. And that's what leads to the constant tunneling that we're seeing.

  • Oof, idk why I didn't think of the Iron Maiden stuff when I made this thread. If all the non-licensed Survivors are getting a T-shirt, I hope they'll be sold in packs...

they usually do participate based on other games. no matter how many times you get the vote to surrender, if the vote fails, the game continues and people play.

this is just wrong and people keep parrotting it for no reason and evidence to the contrary.

so when the solo player gives up, the game is shorter than when 1 out of 4 give up? really? damn...

it absolutely should be touched. it's outdated and needs improving if not removal.

wrong logic. you don't give an out to people throwing tantrums and ruining games. you make sure they take the tiny punishment of a dc or they keep playing.

What do you mean "based on other games?" Do you mean other DBD matches, or different games entirely?

Improving the 4% mechanic? If they can come up with a fair improvement, I'd support it. But absolutely not the removal.

You do realize that tantrums aren't the only reason that people DC or throw on hook, right? It could be faulty servers DC'ing people for no reason. Or maybe the teammates are ruining the game that cause the person to throw on hook (which happens more often than not). Look at Aven_Fallen's comment above, for example. Punishing for that is just wrong.

People aren't going to take the DC penalty, no matter how small the first few are, as long as they stack to those ridiculous levels. Put a cap on it, perhaps no more than 30 minutes for each DC when it reaches that point. That's a bit more forgiving for people whose connections just drop without warning, but also punishing enough for people to think twice before hitting that DC button.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/405503/why-isnt-killing-yourself-on-first-hook-a-bannable-reportable-offense

The answer i always get is:

"You can't make people play a game they don't want to" To which my reply is, actually yes you can. Look at games like DotA which SEVERELY punishes leaving games, such that you get 1 free leave PER WEEK. If you leave more than 1 game a WEEK, you start getting punished and punished SEVERELY. And the part about that i don't get? Games of DotA can last well over an hour. So in that game, where matches can last over an hour, they manage to get people to stay till the end of the game. But for some reason someone can't do that for an 8 minute game of dead by daylight?

The other aspect of it that people fail to address. Lets say i buy your premise that "you can't keep people in the game" So why can't killers end the match early too? Why is it only survivors that are afforded this "luxury" where they can leave the match.

Lastly, there already is a system in place that punishes you for disconnecting. So why is this loophole allowed? The point of the DC penalty is to discourage it, so obviously the devs don't like it when people DC, or the penalty would be removed. At least when you DC, your team gets a bot and can continue on, at least a little bit. But killing yourself on first hook means you basically doom your team to a guaranteed loss. So why is it allowed?

IDK. I think that people who do this kind of thing are in the same vein as people who don't put their carts back at the grocery store.

Sure you can make them "stay," but can you make them participate? No. They'll just doom their team in other ways. So if they want to leave that badly, let them. There's no reason to force people to stay if they've already decided they're not going to participate.

Games where Killers give up are usually much shorter than the ones where Survivors give up. Even when the Killer doesn't DC, they can just go afk. Survivors bust out the gens and then leave in less than five minutes.

"Why is this loophole allowed?" Because the 4% is an important mechanic that shouldn't be touched. You can't disallow it without ruining its intended purpose, or the acceptable scenarios (such as throwing on hook to give last person hatch, or you have no choice but to 4% because all your teammates are dead/slugged/hooked).

If they want to discourage throwing on hook, they need to put a cap on the DC penalty stacks. That's the main reason why people take the hook suicide route to leave matches. The fact that the DC penalty can stack to 24-48 hours or even more is just nothing short of absolutely insane.

It starts getting old when you have to "chill out" several games a day

I got on to play the game, not to look at a lobby and loading screen 75% of the time

Isn't that what the game does anyway? When a match ends, whatever the outcome, you sit in the lobby and wait for the next one.

  • How to address people giving up on hook? Chill out!

They ruin your games? So what? We Survivors lose matches all the time for all kinds of reasons, including teammates throwing. But the match is over in a few minutes, so move on. Better luck next time.

  • There are plenty of reasons for throwing on hook, and people will keep doing it as long as DC penalties are stacking to the ridiculous levels that they currently do. They really need to put a cap on it so it doesn't get to that point.

Yeah, I had a match this morning where I threw on hook. Because all three teammates were crouching all the way across the map, and no one was making a move to come for the save. So when I got close to second phase, I took my one chance to kobe and then let go from there. Why should I keep hanging around when the teammates can't be bothered to save?

Oddly enough, when I spectated, and one of the teammates got hooked, they were saved right away. Truly baffling... 🤨

  • I thought Mangled was fine as it is, but the Hemorrhage needs to be toned down a bit. The regression is too fast, about the same speed as a normal heal (or faster than the healing progress when Mangled is in play, which the majority of the time, Mangled and Hemorrhage are put together).

1 … 24 25 26 27 28 … 33
