As long as DBD is a 1v4 elimination game where the 1 player is trying to remove the other 4 players from the game, then tunneling and camping will always remain strategies.
-
I mean he's called the Executioner. Would be weird if he wasn't good at killing.
-
The devs intentionally changed hooks so the last person in the game dies on hook so the survivor can't intentionally draw out the game.

Im pretty sure its unwinnable if you get chainhunt and have hex ruin active since they cant cleanse totems during chain hunt and the chain hunt itself pushes them off gens so they degress from ruin. not sure if it regresses more then you can progress. And no matter if it doesnt, it is a big problem.
Ruin can be cleaned because survivors can body block chains for each other

I don't understand why you keep defending this strategy. It is not something that has any place in the game. At no point should any team have to spend 45 minutes to do the gens because the killer is AFK.
I'm not defending it. I'm just pointing out how it can be dealt with.

The build is no different from the old AFK Pig build people used to run before they changed the pig box mechanic to make it impossible.
It's counterable if you know exactly what to do AND you coordinate with other survivors nearly perfectly. So SWF/comms can, but good luck getting solo q to do it.
Not to mention, the killer isn't trying to get downs, hooks, or kills with this particular strat. This is the definition of griefing and is reportable according to the game rules.
I would say it's easier for Solo Q to counter AFK pinhead compared to AFK pig if only by the fact the only way to counter afk pig is to 99% gens and then pop them immediately so the last guy can get hatch. But by the time solo q would realize there's an afk pig, a gen is likely already done. Also this doesn't really work if 2+ people got unlucky to have their key in the same box.
AFK Pinhead slows the game down a lot, but solo q has more than enough time to figure out what's going on and deal with it since there's no threat of ever dying to pinhead.
I don't disagree that it's griefing, but honestly I'm unsure if anyone was or will get banned for doing this.
-
The PTB right now is changes focus at nerfing Nurse, the HUD update to give solos information on par with coordinated groups, and a changed (though still not good) Buckle Up.
The devs are simply not just nerfing survivor perks and are working towards making the game balanced for both sides. Which does mean that strong things on survivor side will see nerfs.
Edit:
Also if you only liked Iron Will to go off and heal, then allow me to introduce you to the perk called Bite The Bullet. It's Iron Will but only for healing.

Are you joking? This is literally solo queue we are talking about. Not everyone has the game knowledge to think about body blocking chain hunts. By the time a solo q team would coordinate to do anything, the 1 hour mark is hit and the game ends.
I'm not joking.
While SoloQ can rough, I've certainly encountered players who have good game sense to do that kind of thing. I'm not saying it's easy, but there's no point in which an AFK Pinhead is capable to stopping the game from progressing completely.
-
I honestly don't see what inherit advantage this provides compared to picking the survivor up.
Let's say you start dragging a downed survivor to the exit and the killer downs you with NOED. Now both you guys are down on the ground instead of just 1.
-
Grades aren't used for matchmaking and can't be considered a ranking system.
-
People will find any reason to be toxic towards each other. It should not prevent a needed QOL feature like the HUD update from going live, because some people might use it as an excuse to be toxic.
I think the problem is more that it feels like end game chat toxicity basically doesn't get punished.

Take it and try to play with 4 by 3 with an average resolution of 1280x1024. And you will see how players with a weak computer will play. Could the developers just remove the viewing angle and not add black bars. Yes, and the old 4 on 3 did not give bonuses, depending on the maniac how he could play
I built my computer 7 years ago and it has no problem running on normal resolution for the game. I really don't know what to tell besides that you'll have to deal with it if your hardware is that bad. There's not really a good reason for the devs to support such resolutions.
-

Will you understand that what does he want to give you? Let's say a player has a weak computer and he plays with a resolution of 4:3, and he plays with black stripes that very much prevent him from playing normally.
It does not prevent you from playing normally. The black bars exist to prevent you from seeing more than you could as to not provide advantages. If 4:3 resolution is only being played because of weaker hardware then there should be 0 issues.
-
You can play DBD in alternate resolutions, you get black bars in areas that you normally couldn't see in the default resolution as to not provide any advantages. This shouldn't be an issue if the resolution the game is being played matches the resolution of the display.
-
People really need to stop using "Holding the game hostage" to describe things they don't like. There's few things in dbd that can actually be considered "holding the game hostage" as the devs have done a decent job with making it hard for either side to hold the other side hostage.

The common (someone made a YouTube video) build for this is hex: face the darkness, sloppy butcher, hex: thrill of the hunt, and insidious. Combined with the add-ons that block survivors from seeing the box and one that shows the cenobite the box location.
You injure one survivor and go stand on top of the box for the rest of the game.
So there's a permanent chain hunt because you're body blocking it. Face the darkness can't be cleansed because, with thrill, it takes 28 seconds to cleanse the totem, but they are forced to scream and interrupt the cleanse every 25 seconds. You can't heal the injured survivor because of sloppy and the interrupts.
The game is a win, but is guaranteed to be an excruciatingly long match for survivors.
With the snowmen, you get insidious for free and can put ruin in for even longer matches. At that point, you have a 45 minute slog for survivors who basically earn nothing in two categories for the game.
And the killer can go afk after the first minute.
Edit: autocorrect.
The survivor who is injured can still cleanse the totem since they don't scream and other survivors can just body block for them to cleanse the totem to avoid chains.

Except if he is using ruin.
It's possible to cleanse ruin during chain hunt. Though it would require a bit of coordination with other survivors as someone would need to body block chains for the cleanser.
AFK pinhead sucks to face (luckily I haven't dealt with it personally), but it doesn't seem to be that common of an issue, because there's no actual end goal to it. AFK Pig had the end goal of actually killing someone although it wasn't guaranteed.
-
You have base kit bt so you can't be instantly downed off hook. There's not really a good reason killers need to be punished for completing their objective.
Not to mention you are a team of 4. Others can take hits to buy time and get gens done. It's completely possible survivors can get all 5 gens done before you get hooked 3 times considering you have 60 seconds per hook state as well so there's no need for you to be immediately unhooked either.
Survivors being killed is simply part of the game and there's no guarantee you'll make it to the end every single time.
-

no its very easy to hit immediately after hook so DH and off the record doesnt work. u only get DS.- missplay my ass.
Ds resets endurance so you can use dh.
Also you have 2 hooks before the 3rd kills you. If your teammates can't get any gens done before you get hooked 3 times when the killer can't just immediately down you off hook then the survivors as a whole are doing something wrong.
-
If a survivor is killed and there's still 5 gens left, the survivors misplayed somewhere. There's a point in which survivors need to accept some responsibility for the game. I understand being tunneled out can feel unfair, but if your teammates aren't trying to help you out or get gens done then there isn't a reason the killer should have to go through more hoops to kill a survivor.
-
Fogwise would be bugged if the aura was actually being shown if the killer is undetectable.
Otherwise Fogwise should trigger on a great skill check, but the killer's aura shouldn't be revealed while they are undetectable. If the undetectable effect were to end and Fogwise is still active then their aura should be shown.
-
Status effects don't stack, the highest value wins. If you are already exhausted and you get hit with blood echo, you'll be set to 45 second exhaustion instead of 45 + your current exhaustion timer.

You're entirely missing my point, possibly on purpose, so I'm gonna move on now.
I'm just telling you that figuring out the killer going for adept isn't that hard and the kind of people who would d/c to prevent the adept will know you are trying for the adept.

Yeah I'm not talking about looking out for perks, I'm talking about specifically looking out for perks for adepts so someone can spoil it for the killer. I feel like it's not that common and I fail to see how this change would make it more common.
A lot of perks are obvious enough to the survivor that you don't have to look out for it. It's easy to notice a Trapper with unnerving and then watch to see if he has any non-trapper perk and if he has any of his other trapper perks.
-

I guess so. Will many survivors pay attention to that and care so much that they'll DC? And even if some do.. they would have done the same thing when getting adept was harder.
I would say most survivors who play the game a lot likely look out for the perks the killer has. I know I do. Good to keep track so that way you can figure out if you should be worried about perks like NOED.
-

I'm not sure what would change. You needed to 4k and jump through hoops before. DC still prevented you from getting adept. Now the only thing that's changed is you don't have to jump through hoops. It's simply easier.
The only reason people messed with evil incarnate so much is because it's obvious the killer is trying to go for it. Nobody is going to say "oh the killer is trying to 4k, they must be going for adept!"
Honestly you can tell if most killers are trying to do adept by paying attention to what perks they got. Almost no killer will run their 3 unique perks and not doing adept given the changes to Prestige.
Trapper not running Corrupt, has unnerving, agitation, and brutal strength? That's an adept.
Ghostface seemingly to only be running Furtive Chase and Thrilling Tremors with nothing else? probably an adept. If you have distortion or OoO you can check for I'm All Ears.
Blight running Undying and Blood Favor with Dragon's Grip. Likely adept.
-
It's called Merciless killer. You aren't suppose to give mercy.
The only time Merciless actually matters is for adept, so if you aren't doing adept you are free to give hatch to your heart's content.
-
Even if you were to prevent survivors from swapping characters, loadout swapping would still be a thing since that wouldn't require swapping characters. Would be nice if survivors also had their character locked when queueing like killers.

I only advise the not being able to blink through walls part, movement speed and recharge time obviously should be modified.
If people want to play a nurse that can't blink through walls, they can play Wesker. There's no reason to change Nurse drastically.
-
There's a reason no one ran that addon and it eventually got changed. Being slower than survivors and having no way to gain distance by going through walls is horrible.
-
I personally don't think these changes will make a huge difference. I've played with good solo players who even with lack of communication were still able to make good macro plays.
The information won't give players the ability to make good macro plays and survivors who can't survivor chase very long will still be a hinderance to the team's overall survivability. This mostly just helps already good survivors to be less reliant on perks like kindred which will help, but we'll still see "solo q is frustrating" posts, because you can't solve the player issue.
-
Punishing tunneling doesn't make sense in a game where the design rewards killers to remove a player quickly. You would have to completely change the game to the point that you are making a new game if you wanted to get rid of tunneling.
In which case there's no guarantee the new game will be as successful as the current one, so there's little reason to undertake such a huge change.
-
The devs do not have to nerf everything at once. This isn't the last patch.
-
Nothing is changing with the pips, at least with how it's worded on the dev blog. All that is changing is the statement you get about the match is being changed from the amount of pips earned to the number of kills gotten. This is solely to make adepts not as difficult.

You are ignoring draws as that is impossible to do as survivor.
To illustrate the point better - it would very much change if I said both sides should loose as often as the other side. Because in 50% kill rate killers would loose 40% of times and survivors 50% of times making killer just easier and have their losses unfairly removed - so we need 60% escape rate so both sides loose the game same amount. (This ignores the fact, that draws are actually rare).
So again - you can't just bundle draws into looses and call it a fair thing. Draws are actually much better and more satisfying then looses (obviously) - making it much more enjoyable to play killer then just constantly loosing as a survivor. So no. You can't just say let's match wins on both sides and be happy about it.
Survivors can draw with the changes to the mmr system that makes you loss or gain mmr based on the number of survivors who escaped.
-
If people want both sides to 50% of the time, the killer has to kill more than 50% of survivors on average.
This 60% KR = 60% win rate is ignoring the fact that a true win is a 3K-4K for the killer as a 2K is a draw.
-
You'll never remove meta v meta. Both sides will always have perks that are better than other options and will see the most play.
-
How would this help with tunneling?
Killers would have more incentive to not hook everyone, because survivors have a 5% penalty to gens.
-
Majority of PC players are not cheaters. If you don't want to play with PC players then you can turn crossplay off.

Rank grades don't matter anymore, I can't even remember the last time I looked if I piped or not (which I usually do anyway by playing for chases), I don't think the playerbase cares that much about it nowadays. I get your point about MMR, but for some reason people still care about sweating their ass off since its release, even without knowing their number lol.
You get a good amount of BP for reaching up to the iri grades. While they don't matter for matchmaking, saying they don't matter at all is incorrect.
-
I think the icons are good enough. The game doesn't really need to hand out aura reading and aura reading largely being tied to perks is fine.
The issue I see is that icons won't stop bad survivors or bad matchmaking from affecting matches.
-

Here's the thing they are not really good killers if they have to tunnel and use the most unskilled tactic to win. Even bad killers usually can tunnel survivor out easily if they know to target weakest link. But good thing is most actually good killers I see go for multiple hooks because they trust their skill to win that way or want more challenge and just play for fun. Im not good killer but I still go for multiple hooks unless it's gen rush squad.
Being good isn't just intentionally making the game harder on yourself. Your objective is to kill survivors, the less survivors in trial the easier it is to keep the gens from being done.
Calling killers skillless because you don't like how they are playing is a you problem.
-
Tunneling and camping is valid and using a few streamers as your proof against tunneling and camping doesn't prove what you think it does.
Big streamers have to play for the entertainment of their audience which generally means doing more than just running meta all the time.
Tunneling really isn't "skillless", because bad killers who try to tunnel out survivors who are better then them will get ran around for multiple gens. Killers who are good at the game can take advantage of tunneling more, because they are capable of beating survivors quickly in chase consistently.
-
Hyperfocus and stake out are pretty map dependant and killer dependant. If you don't get a map like rpd or the game with a large tr killer then you really don't get stacks of stake out fast enough. It takes a minute to fully stack stake out so unless you can easily build it up while working on the gen you'll waste more time getting the stacks then you save.
Letting go off the gen due to eruption or pain res resets hyperfocus. Stealth killers make building stake out harder.
When the stars align it's powerful but let's not act like it's consistent.
-
I think slugging and forcing survivors bleed out is just BM. There's nothing wrong with strategic slugging where you leave a survivor because of a nearby survivor or to put pressure on the map, but it is a bit of an issue when the killer just intends to force the survivor to bleed out.

This is the point though... it would be great to be able to communicate that you are not there to sweat and want to actually have chases for either side.
It has nothing to do with winning or losing, its about being able to not have every match be a sweat-fest every time where you can enjoy the fun part of the game on both sides (the chases).
Even if there was, many survivors aren't going to trust the killer is be truthful. I've encountered fake farming killers in the past.
If you only want to chase survivors and not kill them, you can do so. But don't be surprised survivors just do gens and leave because that's what survivors are suppose to do.
-
@MaTtRoSiTy said:

Because if I just chase one person and don't pressure gens all gens are done in under 5 minutes and everyone leaves.
Many survivors are just playing the game where they try to win. Your choice of playing in a way where you choose to not kill survivors only makes it easier for them to do the gens and leave.
-
People keep bringing up "tunneled at 5 gens left" but frankly if 5 gens are still left when you get tunneled out of the game, the survivors played badly.
Also if you want to dc anytime a killer decides they want to kill someone, you are only rewarding the killer for playing in the way you don't like.

Technician is a garbage crutch perk that harms newer players more than it helps them
Bite the Bullet is usually only good for gimmicks and newer players likely aren't aware of those gimmicks to begin with. RE is also a licensed chapter that you need to pay money for. (One of the most expensive ones too)
Visionary is a horrible perk that is overshadowed by several other perks.
Deja-Vu is a good perk, sure it's pick rate isn't amazing but there could be tons of reasons for that. Perks that revolve around gens are pretty unpopular except Prove bc Prove actually has a big impact on games.
You picked 3 generator information perks and 1 stealth/healing perk and compared it to what is basically a chase oriented/information perk. That's not fair imo.
That's like comparing BBQ to Bitter Murmur or Whispers or something like that.
Just to add on to what you said, there's no reason to run Visionary over Deja-Vu and Deja-Vu is a generic perk so you don't need to level up another character to have it.
The few times I've tried to get new players into dbd, I've recommended they use Deja-Vu simply because it helps them find gens which is something new players struggle with a lot.
-
There's only 2 Hex totems that reveal their aura.
Plaything which reveals the aura of the survivor who is inflicted by Oblivious
NOED which activates at the end of the game.
Both hexes which create themselves and don't spawn at the start of the game.
