Mmmm. The thing with flashlights and lightborn as far as I have been able to notice is that as soon as they realize you have lightborn they no longer fall for it. You might get one or two good whacks, but it becomes an empty perk slot afterwards. Not a lot of value.
Honestly I have gotten much more value of simply going after the flashlight guys after a down. You down someone, another one comes for the save, whack it, they flee and either the others come to try and get you (awesome slowdown) and you chase them off too, all the while that other guy is bleeding on the ground. Eventually they'll scatter enough for you to carry your down safely. The exchange ends with multiple wounds, one hook and no one on gens for the entire time. They get careful after that, so why use a perk slot when you can do this to great effect?
-
We could just give plague a puker skin and be done with it xD.
But yeah, basic slasher would be a good killer because they where versatile. Power could be temporary transformation into their stronger black form.
-
I hate playing against pyramid head (my main), because I'm a crappy survivor and can't hold w for my life xD
-
I didn't know....
-
I actually like it a lot as pyramid head. It's very bright and I can easily see the survivors. I don't mind the pallets at all because they are prime opportunities to hit them with my power and the building isn't that bad because if they leave through the door they into the dead zone and if they vault they get punishment of the buster sword.
If they go upstairs I might just let them go or follow them and use trail near the top, depending on the design. Also perma trails on the stairs is a surefire way to get everyone tormented and they know what happens next.
Size is my only gripe, but I play territorial around a 4 Gen situation and the problem goes away
-
As killer main, even 4 last second ninja flashlights don't phase me. After there are all manners of counters that don't depend on perks, starting by the fact that they will most likely flock to you the moment you down someone. Saves time finding them.
Now when you get 4 last second event toolboxes, that's when #### gets real.
-
I unhook myself on their face, juke him around the basement for 30 seconds, then go into the locker and stun him on the way out, then let him down me and DS him, before finally leaving during the stun, all the while teabagging and clicking on my flashlight.
OK, maybe it didn't happen EXACTLY like that....
-
Only rule I really do follow is to let someone doing sigil challenges finish before I attempt to get them. Specially if I catch them communing with the first white sigil.
-
OK, I see a lot of people wanting to change perks they have a problem with, so I have a different approach (might be unpopular).
I would LOVE to see distressing and beast of prey changed so that the extra blood points are granted as a multiplier after the match, very much like BBQ, but only for their respective areas.
This would greatly help with the grind and at the same it would make playing while running all three perks (which essentially means throwing the game) feel much more rewarding and worth it.
Also would love a 4th BP perk that's not thrill of the hunt, because it always get cleansed very fast.

That doesn't sounds like the complete story. Hiding is fine, even if it's just boring.
If survivors hide very well (pretty rare) I'll often let them do all their gen in peace an leave. I'm there to chase and be evaded. I have no interest for immersed gen-jockeys. They can take their ~13K bloodpoints and enjoy the next queue.
However, if one survivor is so much into hiding he doesn't help his teammates, it tends to annoy me. I often ensure he will not exit the game through any door. I'm pretty sure this feeling is shared by many players.
This should cover all the cases that come to mind about hiding. See which one applies to you.
Oh yeah there is this very special case where the survivor just hides in a closet for the majority of the match, only ever moving to avoid the crows. I have had a few of this and if at this point the last other survivor gently points me to this guy I will gladly take the sacrifice and give the other one their pick between hatch and door escape. Might even throw in an extra chase and wiggle if he teabags the little coward.

I'm a survivor main.
Yesterday I met a Killer, who intentionally worked with the other survivor (2 of us left) to find me, kill me, and let the other one escape. I asked him why did he break the gameplay rules and do such a toxic thing, when I didn't do anything...
his response was, "I didn't like your vibes, you were hiding every time I patrolled your generator, I don't like hiders"
#########?? So if I am doing a Generator, and I hear the killer coming, and I hide, and he struggles to find me during patrols..... I am doing something bad?
Lol what? Is this normal attitude among killers, or did I just meet a toxic loser?
As killer main I don't think hiding is wrong, however if I find I do tend to use excessive force (as in, will chase you until you're in a hook) because I know it's probably the last time I will see you. This might be interpreted as being pissed at you.
As a main killer who begrudgingly plays survivor for challenges, I hail you because this is the only way I can play without dying xD.
-
What? No.
I love my assortment of dark colored charms on all brown claudette
-
I actually tend to do very well on it if I'm playing plague. I just claim upstairs and the gennies near downstairs, clear the pallets there during the early game and then just watch them despair. Several games have ended with the survivors just giving up and waiting to be sacrificed
-
I would be okay with NOED disappearing forever. If that would also mean that DH also disappears.
I never use NOED, it's pointless. On the other hand DH is ever present and quite annoying when it's already hard to outmaneuver survivors with many killers and in many places and they escape anyway.
I mean, I get it against a blight, but why would you ever use DH against a wraith or clown. Its just wrong.
-
The killer that finds me 5 seconds into the match. Because I suck playing survivor xD

May you have a nice day as well

I actually tried out Eruption, believe it or not, when the RE chapter released lol. I couldn't really find a way to tech it into builds because I just found that the build I had (Corrupt/Pop/BBQ/IAE) just gave me more value than what Eruption ever could but if you're missing perks absolutely go for it- it wasn't bad by any means provided you're already kicking gens.
Speaking of kicking gens- the new chapter (Sadako Rising, based off of the Ringu series and featuring Sadako as the killer) features a new perk "Call of Brine" which could go very well with a build where you do kick gens (ie. not Ruin/Undying); I'll obviously be playing around and trying to tech it into builds.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/G6R0MGBAP6NJ/image.png
(side note: if you want to know everything new in this Chapter, I summarised the entire PTB here:)
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/310595/all-new-content-sadako-rising-dbd-5-6-0-ptb
I actually read that post and made me very interested in sadako. That perk and the hook one seem interesting but that was before I decided on pyramid head.
And I don't know why there would be few people playing as him. I mean I got hooked (pun intended) after I played against him for the first time and was utterly stomped. I have never felt so powerless against any killer.
Granted I'm a very bad survivor, I only play surv for challenges and easy dailies like sabotaging gens and fixing hooks (might be doing it wrong though) so I went and checked the guides and tier lists and whatnot before buying. He is just such an intimidating killer in a current meta that has survivors mostly dancing in front of you, it's positively refreshing to see survivors really trying to stay TF away from you and afraid of what might happen if they fail to do so.

Quick advice on chapter buying- wait for new chapters to release!! Older content almost always goes on sale when new content drops, and even if this time around it for some reason doesn't go on sale it'll be 2 years old when Anniversary happens and it's almost guaranteed to be, like, 40-50% off then. If you think you can hold off just a bit longer (and who knows, it might show up in the Shrine at some point between then) then it's absolutely worth your time waiting till March 8th to save some money.
Yeah, definitely gonna wait then. Thanks for that intel I had no idea of the anniversary or the new chapter thingy.
It's not like I can buy and immediately level up ghostie anyway. I haven't even finished leveling pyramid xD.
I'll toy around with other perks in the meantime, like infectious fright. Or eruption to synergize with pop.

Omg omg hey hi yes I'm here
Okay so:
You want to commit to the chase. Especially at the start of the game, your power means as soon as you're in range they're essentially downed so it's just a matter of holding w too (at which point you will never want to use your power to catch up quicker). Get them on a hook, and begin to swing momentum until you hit your Pressure Point of No Return.
Some maps you're just screwed, like Saloon or RPD or Badham, where holding W is even more effective because of spots you can't use your power, but others you've got lots of places to use it and get downs so he's absolutely map dependent.
Leaving them means they can heal up with COH and you'll never get any map pressure; you want to build this pressure as soon as is physically possible.
Don't be afraid to M1 either. Being overly reliant on your power makes for fun games but is a terrible way to win- go for out of animation lock shots and regular zoning, look at how each survivor plays and adapt yourself accordingly. If they dodge a lot expecting through the wall POTD, then zone them. If they keep running then predict and hit them.
Now, as for your perks- Pain Resonance as PH is terrible. It's trash tier. It's hot garbage. It's genuinely awful.
You want minimal downtime to maximise time you can spend travelling the map and chasing survivors (though if they loop chases shouldn't last more than 20 second each if you're playing to win). Any Scourge Hook perk makes you want to spend more time carrying, meaning you have greater downtime which in turn will mess up your potential for momentum. Personally, I'd suggest either Corrupt + Pop or Ruin + Undying, with Infectious Fright and I'm All Ears to back these up. BBQ over Infectious for most games because Bloodpoints but again, if you're playing to win, then Infectious all the way. IMO Corrupt + Pop is a lot more consistent, but Ruin + Undying feels better because you don't have to kick gens and can just go chase to chase to chase, again removing a lot of downtime.
As for him not having much comeback, absolutely not! His torment is one of the best for accelerating hook states or eliminating a survivor and the very threat of this will make survivors play more carefully, effectively allowing for later games to be a lot better. Corrupt can help in forcing a 3 gen if you have it. Remember that the game isn't over and you always have a chance to return until the very last gen pops (and even then you can still secure kills). PH can make unhooking with you nearby ultra unsafe because of the ability to hit multiple people.
Now, how to get better. The first thing you can do is practice practice practice. I've sunk over a thousand hours into exclusively him and I still make mistakes I warn others of doing (some because I don't care about the outcome of the game and others because I just make mistakes lol). I like to flick at loops, but this takes a lot of skill and prediction and sometimes I just mess it up- it's okay, you can't win them all.
I made a guide! I'm working on updating it now but it still contains a lot of very good tips I play by to this day. Here it ia:
Also, to give you an idea of the shots I mean, here's 3 and a half minutes of me using his power to mostly good effect over 4 different matches:
Hope this can help and if you need more tips or need me to expand on something just lmk!
Edit: let me just go off on why I think Corrupt is gorgeous on him. He has no mobility ability, and therefore will traverse the map slowly. Corrupt severely limits the initial patrol route to 4 gens over 7, so even if it takes you a minute to find someone that's a minute nobody has been on gens and you can be sure of this because the gens you didn't patrol were blocked by Corrupt, making progress on them impossible. It's so incredibly useful for his early game, but obviously if survivors do nothing but get hit and run towards the Corrupted gens then leave them to keep patrolling.
Also, if a survivor runs you to another who's on a gen that you can hit easily, switch targets. The injured person will spend time healing or running back to the gen when they realise you left them but you've also interrupted someone else (got regression on the gen if you're using Ruin) and bought yourself a few more valuable seconds. In DBD as killer every single second you spend in the trial is of vital importance and one wrong decision can cost you the match. It's important you gain as much time as you can to guard against this and play as efficiently as possible if you truly want to win.
But I play for fun so I obviously don't 4k every single trial and don't play efficiently, so if you ever watch gameplay where I'm not 100% serious on winning you'll probably spot plenty of errors lmfao
OMG, you're awesome. I'm really grateful for the massively helpful guide.
I hadn't realized how badly pain resonance was messing with my map pressure. I did saw a couple guides (red's) about the general gameplay and the do's and dont's of his power but this is so in depth. It's precious
Of all the perks you list the only one I don't have is I'm all ears, but after seeing it in action I'm definitely getting good old ghostface. I wasn't very attracted to him, and was saving for Sadako, but I think it's worth it, because I'm really enjoying pyramid head.
Thanks a bunch for all the helpful tips and information.
-
Nemesis and huntress. Because I play with a controller T. T
-
Can confirm it does respawn at least once during the same match. It did for me
-
At risk of stating something you probably already know, but I didn't for quite some time until I searched for it here, you must be playing as survivor for it to show up. It doesn't show for killers
-
As killer main. I love it when you do this. Please keep doing it.
2 pain resonance for the price of one is always welcome. Plus if I catched the unhooked once, I probably will again.
-
I think it's a balance thing. The people at behavior have said several times that camping and tunneling are valid strategies and so it transpires that they don't intend to remove that option. Sure face camping might be a less than desirable outcome but it's part of the game.
There is also the fact that there are more perks that synergize with DS and BT pretty well increasing escaping potential, so what you are really asking for isn't more perks but stronger perks to pile up on top. That could very well cause both strategies unviable, an outcome that the devs have stated they don't want.
I really don't see a problem here. Tunneling isn't easy at all unless the survivor is very unskilled, at which point, well what do you expect to happen?
-
Well I don't have a clue how to tell if someone is from console or pc.
As killer main I do tend to pursue the obvious easy down. I mean if I come back to an unhooking and one goes to a safe tile and the other runs into a deadzone I'm going for the easy one. I don't really usually chase a specific player
-
I think that overall it would be better to change both the hex and boon system to a token based system. You enter a trial with a token on every hex or a token per boon perk.
Then you first need to find a totem, then hex or boon it.
This creates more interaction with the totems in general and also a bit a back and forth game between killer and survivors. Place my boon/hex early for that extra buff and risk it getting destroyed early or save it for later.
That or a cooldown + relighting conditions like for killer must wait 90 secs and hook 3 times, destroy 5 pallets, hit 6 times or something like that. And for survivors 40 second cooldown and must secure unhook once, or be chased for x seconds.
It would add a new layer of strategy and promote different gameplay approaches
-
No, I want them to buff PC. With auto aim. Because I play with a controller. And I have missed a huntress hatchet. On a stationary target. 10 feet away. More than once....
But I really want to play with Lady bunny. And nemesis
-
Not waiting 10 minutes for a match xD
-
One time I was playing with silent bell wraith and the survs were incredibly good. I only got like 5 hooks and no kills T. T
But at least at the end they told me they had a lot of fun with me chasing them, and that all considered I played pretty well. One of them even told me I made him spill some of his drink. I lost but they still made my day.
Bottom line is that there is also nice people and playing with them can be fun regardless of the result. Wish I knew who they were.
-
Emblem system doesn't make sense for plague.
It's so very sad that I FINALLY find a killer I love and would like to main only to find out how much her BP and emblem gain sucks.
It's like a hidden debuff, it should be stated clearly in her description
"Warning: by purchasing this killer you agree to a 60% penalty on gained BP and renounce to iridescent devious emblem when using her"

Just curious. Did you happen to have a ton of killer hours before playing survivor?
I have the same issue of being able to avoid detection pretty well but if a chase starts I literally run into the open impulsively.
I used to play F13 the game and it randomly chose the killer (Jason) from the 8 person lobby.
I bought this game because I liked the idea of being able to choose to play killer. I had probably 800-1000 hrs of killer before I ever tried survivor. I've always wondered if that's why, that's why I'm wondering.
You might be unto something!
I don't have a ton of hours because I plays this since the epic games freebie and I do so casually, nowadays perhaps 2 to 3 hours a day, not every day, but I did play killers exclusively for the first months and it's only recently that I started with some "surviving".
And it's exactly the same. I'm very good at hiding right in the face of the killer but if it finds me, I just do a beeline to the nearest whatever. Rock, tree, building. If I happen to run into a loop or pallet I'm actually pretty decent at keeping the killer at bay for some time, but it's kinda rng based whether I will find one or not xD.
Maybe it's some kind of killer syndrome?
My wife and I even joke about it. When I tell her I'm gonna play dbd (which essentially means, "there is no pause, please don't ask me to take the trash out") she just asks if I'm gonna kill people or I'm just gonna get killed
-
Butterball? Nah, I would much rather have the doctor, from second movie. Now that would be awesome.
-
I find it more stressful to play survivor, but that's because I suck at it and if the killers finds me I almost always get hit xD.
I prefer killer and play it almost exclusively (I only play survivor for the tome and rift stuff) and although it's more hectic it's also more relaxing for me.
I feel like the survivors have to know every map by memory and since I play casually that's not going to happen.
As killer I just have to worry about what the survivor in front of me is doing and how to game the tile or loop. I can see the gens. Let the survivors worry about where they are going, I just want to chase them.
-
5 people want apples, 5 people want oranges. You get apples, the orange people complain. You get oranges, the apple people complain. You get appleanges, everyone complains because half-assed solution and no one gets what they wanted.
Bottom line, there is always someone complaining and rarely will the content party come to express their complacency
-
I see
Thanks to everyone for your answers and insight. I look forward to further input on this map so hopefully I can do better with the killers I use the most.
So far I surmise that I would probably do better once I start getting a hang on blight, which is nice.
-
When I first entered the post I thought they were making fun of the nemesis because he was "hiding" behind the tree. I thought it hilarious.
Then I realized they weren't even making fun of nemesis but of the definition of skill on this game.
But for some reason a lot of responses still seem to be fixated on whether the nemesis is right or not for camping.
It was funnier when I thought it was about the stealthy nemesis xD
-
OK, so I'm not an expert on anything DBD by a long shot, but she is definitely my strongest killer (favorite is plague though). She carried me to red rank 1 for the third time in a row (when I start struggling with the other fun killers I go back to her and she gets things done), so I will relate some things that help me do well with her.
The first and definitely most important one, which has already been told, but I can't overstate, is that your true strength is the combination of overwhelming speed and the ability to strike right out of phase. It doesn't matter what the survivors know if you just pop at strike range, there is no counterplay. It doesn't matter what they know if they simply can't get away fast enough. You are gonna catch them.
The second one is to realize that they can't see you. Sure they might know you're standing right at the other side a pallet or loop, but they don't know when you're striking. Minds games before phasing are nice, but mind games during phasing is what gets me hits on experienced players. One thing that often works is that when I know they are waiting at the pallet I stop just out of range for a moment, bid my time then I quickly step in, phase out and quick strike (no lunge).
Abuse your lack of window animation, when they vault step in front of the window and as soon as they look away phase, then move to the other side, they will probably try to mind game assuming you are bidding your time for a vault. But you're not.
Chase perks help a ton to create extremely unsafe zones. Resilient, spirit fury and bamboozle are all excellent additions to her ability to catch up with survivors and I like to throw in either pop or pain resonance, because slowdown. With this mentality, identify early a 4 or 5 Gen situation and work to make the area unsafe by removing pallets. Gyms an loops become deadzones when the pallet is gone and the window is blocked so they are forced to abandon the tile. But you're spirit. They won't make it to the next one. Bonus points if you leave some pallets for a nice spirit fury freebie.
This is from the top of my head. Definitely don't let people discourage you from her. I'm by no means a great player, but even I can do well with her. She is my consistent win.

There are a type of people scared for their life more than the teams. While most of the time it's selfishness sometimes they have a reason for that. That causes some emotions. So what's your feelings about most of them
As a main killer I'm thorn between both alternatives. For one, if the survivors go to great lengths to get everyone out it means more interaction and sometimes when they really dupe me with an incredible escape I can't help but smile as all 4 of them ride into the sunset. Cheeky bstrds.
On the other hand, my evil killer side just loves when all bonds of friendship and kinship are abandoned and they abandon their friend, who almost always sacrificed himself by distracting me long enough for the rest to finish that last Gen and open the gates. It might be a 1K for me, but it's also the ultimate win, because you broke them. They ran terrified of loosing their awesome tools or their escape points rather than risking me. Ah the look on that poor hooked survivor when they realize no one's coming. Hehehe
-
Wow. I'm sorry that you had such a bad time. No one deserves to suffer when they are supposed to be having fun.
Still I gotta say sometimes it's just us killers wanting to be miserable.
Sometimes as killer when I realize that I'm against a full potato team I'll just put everyone on death hook but not kill them. Then I'll just chase them, knock them out and let their friends get them up, let them loop and stun me, kick their gens every now and then, as they slowly get the gens done. When we are down to 1 Gen I go all out and try to kill them. Sometimes they all escape, sometimes I kill them. In my head I'm trying to let them play the game, get some practice and bp and often they show appreciation, but sometimes I have also been called out for toying with them or just downright torturing them.
Similarly about half the time I run into this really hard SWFs, they toy with me and drag out the last Gen I just try to get bps if it's a killer I'm bad with I try to learn how beat them. When the match is done I usually just say "you're good, thanks for the match".
Sometimes they are toxic, but often they are not. They ask if I got max BP and sometimes they even offer advice on how to fix my mistakes, regardless if it was a 4e or 4k.
I do get the pull to win. Everyone likes to win, but I don't understand the need to make loosing or bein stomped a miserable experience. Only time I'm miserable is when I try to play Bubba. I just can't.
-
Monstruos shrine: every time you hook on the basement you gain a token. Next time a survivor enters the basement, spend 3 tokens to lock the exit for the survivors for 10, 15, 20 seconds if you're 32 or more meters away, and you receive a strong noise notification.
It will never happen, but it would be hilarious xD. It's a trap!!!

My opinion is simply that words have very plain definitions, and the more you use them in hyperoblic fashion the less meaning they have. Like when people say they "literally died" laughing at a joke (No, you didn't) or when they compare anyone they dislike to a member of a certain German regime that rose to power in the 1930s.
Hyperbole helps nothing.
I agree. Like when people say everything is toxic on this forum, xD.
But the subject at hand is not such an example in my opinion.
Having different interpretations about the meaning of the word safety, with one being strictly about obligation and the other being more comprehensive is not hyperbolic.
Now if we were talking about the safety concerns derived from banning people from playing a game or posting their opinions on a forum I think I would agree with you.
I do enjoy our exchange BTW. Looking forward to your follow up. Though I sense we have about reached the end of how much this exchange can be stretched.

Because word definitions matter. If you say something mean to me, and that is now "harmful", can I have you arrested for inflicting harm?
Well in the end it all falls to individual standards. Sure many people are satisfied if they can't be blamed for something. Many others have higher standards and would rather behave in a way that they themselves consider acceptable even if it's beyond "obligation".
I for one think that it's a good thing that those responsible for the management of the forum content are on the second group rather than the former.
A bit outside the subject at hand, but as a high school teacher I often deal with both students and parents with bully behavior who will shame, ostracize and verbally abuse vulnerable children without ever resorting to direct physical violence. When those same victims then hurt themselves or suffer from bodily manifestations of their mental distress the bullies also often will just shrug and say something like "not my fault if he wuss". Sure, they can't be legally blamed for it, but that doesn't make it right.
Just trying to illustrate the difference between what's strictly obligation and what's not and why some people would rather play it safe and call things a security matter.
Nevertheless, you have your own opinion and I respect it.

That would hurt anyone who gets into a lobby with teammates who refuse to use voice chat, though. I imagine a lot of people would refuse to use it. I certainly wouldn't touch it.
A chat wheel would be better. And it'd be useful for mixed-language lobbies, unlike voice chat.
Yeah I know. I mean I didn't think it through or anything. But still even if some players wouldn't use it, which I get, then at least it's a choice they can make. I mean I play on pc with a controller and for some reason I keep trying to play the ranged killers. I know I handicap myself, but it's my choice.
Maybe mix your idea with mine so that even if some members of the group are uncomfortable with voice chat they can at least have some rudimentary communication system.
But yeah it's a hard situation and I'm just a player, I don't really know anything about game design
-
On Xmas I actually would have liked that, as a killer, I could have something like bloody present, to increase survivor's BP, but not my own, and survivors could bring presents to the killer that increased its BP, but not their own. Also first 10 presents given would yield cosmetic
-
Maybe DO have an in game voice chat feature that solos can use, so the gap between solos and SWFs is shortened and then balance around that.
-
While as a main killer I can see the frustration, that would make no sense. A step back in every sense and honestly, while there is a clear problem with the abusive tendencies that can be observed in a number of SWF, not all of them are that way and to be frank, the majority of actually interesting, engaging games I have had has been against SWFs.
There IS a balance issue but I really don't know how could it be addressed. I know some games with similar premises have have a separate queue for solo only players, another for team players and a competitive one with specific rulesets per season, but I have no clue if something like that could be done here.

Sure, but that's hardly a SAFETY issue.
You kinda sound like that middle management person who does not consider the mental health of their subordinates a security concern.
Direct bodily harm to a person is not the only criteria for stating a situation is a security concern.
Also psychological effects may reflect physically on some people.
While I agree that the majority of mentally stable adults and adolescents would hardly be shaken by a picture and would just shrug it off, it can't be generalized that is the case for everyone.
Also the tough guy mentality is rarely constructive or helpful.
