What is the greed here? You can still purchase it for the lower price through the in-game store. You are not in any way forced to purchase Nic Cage for $10.

If buying Auric Cells is such a huge problem and you don't like the price of the DLC, then just wait for a sale. It's not the end of the world if you don't own Nic Cage.

Personally I think the greed is the fact they've made it so you can't buy something on your prefered platform for the same price as you always could, as mentioned in a previous post it breaks the mold of DLC prices for no discernable reason. I think it's important people pushback against this kind of thing because otherwise BHVR gets free reign to keep pushing more and more stuff like this

    FOMO Cosmetics, another prime example

Plus It's not a discount, if you don't want the extra content they are forcefully bundling in - then you are paying for something you don't want.

That's how I see it, at least. I've never said anyone else's viewpoint is "wrong" here.

The outcome is pretty much the same (except you want that blue jacket). So I really don't understand why you are upset.

And maybe that was an agreement with Nick himself. We don't know.

I don't care about the outcome.

I care that once again the consumers get shafted for choice, for again, seemingly greed related reasons and no explanation offered.

If it's not a big deal, why was the change made to begin with?

Because they wanted to offer a neat discount deal, and because they can and do price each of their DLC packages differently? Some have 1 character, some have 2, some have 3, some have 11, some have different cosmetics and charms thrown in, some are discounted further already, etc.

    That's blatantly false though

Normal DLC price (1 surv 1 killer, 8 perks): 5.49

DLC price of a double chapter: (2 surv, 1 killer 12 perks): 9.99

DLC price of a 'paragraph' (1 character from either side): 3.99

Not a SINGLE chapter on Steam is like the Nicolas cage one. Go check. There's other bundles, but there are no chapters that throw in extra content and charge more than the base price.

Jesus dude, you already have TWO different purchase options. That's twice as many as most things have. Just buy it for $5 like everyone else. Talk about first world problems.

All I wanna know is why they felt the need to remove an option that was always there. I don't think that's too unreasonable of an ask?

If you have an answer for me I'd be happy to hear.

I mean, calling a discount offer "pure greed" is pretty extreme and inflammatory.

"Here have cheap stuff" "NO! I want it full price, you're so greedy!"

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/ZKR41NTF2YRA/jackie-chan-meme.gif

How is it a discount if there's no alternative for buying the DLC on my prefered platform (steam)?

What I stand to gain from defending this is the satisfaction of calling out irrational complaints, and the possibility that you might see sanity.

I'm not the one who's resorted to attack's on people's character over opinions though, that's you

I've respected every opinion you've had even if I disagree with you. You seem to have this misconception people different from you are irrational and have OCD/don't have sanity lmfao

    jesus

  • @LapisInfernalis said:

I don't understand your complaints. He is either 10 bucks including the cosmetic or 500AC (=5 bucks) in the store without.

What is your problem with buying 500AC? There is literally a package just for that and you have no leftovers too.

Your reason "I don't want to buy AC" does not make any sense. It is not like you are charged extra or that you have AC left after you bought him.

My reason isn't "I don't want to buy auric cells"

My reason is "I'm annoyed that I don't have the choice i used to have before, for seemingly greed releated reasons"

Please understand the key difference here.

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3492880#Comment_3492880

I still don't understand why you can't just buy it with Auric Cells? Get over your irrational fear of Auric Cells, it's exactly the same price.

Fella I've bought auric cells before, the issue is that you are FORCED to buy auric cells if you don't want to get ripped off. How do you not understand the issue of taking a previously well established choice for a consumer away?

    Because it doesn't effect you?

Because in your mind there's no difference, yet you can't explain why the change was made in first place?

Like genuinely, I don't get what you stand to gain from defending this in the first place, you clearly don't care about it - which is fine you don't have to at all I respect that.

  • @Seraphor said:

"Hey, let's offer a half-price cosmetic. Surely no one can complain about that..."

Yeah nice argument, I can do this too

"Hey, instead of letting people buy the DLC for the usual price - let's bundle in a cosmetic they might or might not actually care about and hike up the price! That way they either have to buy OUR currency auric cells or they have to pay us extra to have it on steam! It's a win win! We also screw over those dirty family sharing freeloaders!"

    Proves nothing, though lol.

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3492853#Comment_3492853

Why do you need it on Steam? It costs the same anyway?

Usual price of single character on Steam: $4.99

Usual price of single character via Auric Cells: $5

Usual price of single character and a rare cosmetic via Auric Cells: $15 minimum

Cost of Nick Cage DLC with rare cosmetic on Steam: $9.99

Cost of Nick Cage via Auric Cells: $5

No one is getting ripped off. You're just OCD about getting it via Steam.

First of, hilarious that you'd bring up OCD - mind your own damn business about other people's mental issues yeah

Second of all, you can say oh it's the same it's the same but you're not answering the key question here, IF there is no difference why are we not allowed to buy the DLC on steam then?

Also thirdly, maybe people like family sharing DLCs? Maybe people like having all of their purchases in one place? Maybe some people don't want to be FORCED into buying a third party online service currency in order to not get ripped off?

End of the day, taking options away from customers for no apparent reason isn't okay and I'm kinda tired of pretending it is lmao

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3492846#Comment_3492846

You know exactly what I'm talking about but I've edited to help you understand.

I still don't get your point

If people want to buy the chapter on steam, they can't do it without paying extra for content they might not want in the first place, hence why it's a ripoff. Every other chapter before this was available for purchase on steam by itself, why should this one be any different? What's the reason?

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3492840#Comment_3492840

    Steam: $4.99

    Auric Cells: $5

Oh no, one cent, such unfathomable greed.

    ???

Nicolas cage DLC is £7.99/$9.99 on steam and there's no option to buy it without the added cosmetics which are the reason the price was hiked up

    What are you talking about

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3492834#Comment_3492834

You're not getting ripped off. You're getting exactly the same deal for exactly the same price. You're complaining that your receipt is printed on a different colour paper.

No, I am complaining because every other DLC you can buy on steam for the same price but now apparently that's not the case

Why? Greed. Unless you can offer a reasonable alternative explanation why the consumer has had options limited when it's completely against how it's always been. Every other solo character DLC was sold for the same price, on steam without any added costs so...

    Why?

  • @Seraphor said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3492829#Comment_3492829

So buy the auric cells? What's the difference?

It's not like there's an awkward amount. It's $5 for 500 AC, which is the cost of the character.

If there's no difference, why was buying just the DLC for the same price on steam option removed?

Why should we be forced to buy a third party currency if we don't want to be ripped off?

These are questions I'm holding out on getting an answer to.

  • @Seraphor said:

    *Offers a discount deal*

"This is pure greed trying to entice people to buy your product"

I wanted to buy the DLC on steam and I can't do that without paying for content I don't want

Doesn't seem like a discount to me, seems like a ripoff for the sake of extra profit

  • @Crowman said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3492706#Comment_3492706

You can buy the exact amount of auric cells you need to buy Nic Cage and it gets processed through the steam store.

Now if Nic Cage cost more than the lowest auric cell bundle, but less than the next auric cell bundle with no option of just buying the exact amount, that would be scummy. But in this case, if you just want the character, then you have an option.

We know you can buy auric cells and get it for 500

That's not the issue, the issue is we used to be able to buy it on steam and have it in our library. We had the OPTION to buy it whatever way we prefered

Now, we do not. It is either pay extra to have it on steam or buy our in game currency. There's 0 reason that I can see for the option to be removed apart from pure greed.

  • @Crowman said:

You can just buy 500 auric cells through stream and pick up just Nic Cage on the DBD store.

I'm not really seeing the issue here.

Basically they added an extra purple outfit for nicolas cage into the steam DLC version, as a result they upped the price

All other licensed single character dlcs are 3.99, they are charging £7.99 or $9.99 for it and there is no way for steam users to opt out of the cosmetic version. So we're forced to buy auric cells if we don't want to pay extra

The issue is people who like to buy on steam are now forced to either buy an in game currency or pay extra for content they don't want.

Already bought it and knowing this community I will be the worst being. Same when I bought sets.

I dont think that BHVR alone has a decision on that. They dont get all the money from the purchase so I guess that Nicolas Cage also wanted a bit more than what he would have gotten when the DLC would cost 5 bucks.

I understand that angle and hey I have nothing against people who buy stuff that's not at all what I'm annoyed about

I'm annoyed that BHVR can just pull stuff like this and nobody really questions it, despite the fact it's once again us - the people who keep buying into this game, getting shafted in one way or another.

  • @UndeddJester said:

    Excellent, finally you said it.

It isn't that it's COSTING you more, it's that you personally have a preference where you don't like buying in game currency. That is your complaint, and not an entirely unreasonable one. I personally don't see a difference because virtual content is virtual content, you never own any of it. You merely rent it, but I can see your point.

However my point is, "greed" is not a fair criticism here. There is nothing in you statements thus far, that justify calling BHVR greedy. You are being forced to use a currency system you don't like. That should be complaint.

Apologies for the accusation, however it was getting frustrating getting what you actually meant out of you.

It is greed, there's no other reason to remove options from the consumer

Until BHVR comes out and tells us the reason, I am going to assume greed because BHVR has a track record of being a greedy company.

Disagree if you want, that's fine I'm not gonna baselessly accuse you of anything because I'm capable of having a conversation.

It was removed because its pointless?

If you can buy 500 Auric Cells, and the DLC costs 500 Cells in the in game store... why put a separate pack on each platform store for the same value?

You keep saying you don't have a choice but to buy the DLC with extras you don't want... except you can buy the DLC... with Auric Cells... for the same price the DLC for just the character would have cost...

Thus far your complaint is "I only want the character, but I want a stea. store item just for that character so I can buy that from the steam store, because I don't want to use Auric Cells for some reason"

I'm beginning to wonder if you're trying some kind of steam refund trick, and can't do it Auric Cells.

holy hell that is some mental gymnastics if I've ever seen them.

I liked to buy the DLCS on steam, it's was the way I prefered to do it. I liked having them in my steam library and now if I want to continue that I have to pay extra, for content I do not want. I should not be forced to buy a 3rd party currency to buy something I used to be able to just buy from my prefered store

I appreciate the baseless accusation, it just goes to show you can't actually defend the practice. Grow up.

but thats just me, i just really hope BHVR doesn't force DBD to go down the path of blizzard and EA games.

Yeah I can see that tbh, the way people just don't give a damn and are just ok with it.

Yes, but why are Auric Cells a problem?

You are still using your steam wallet for it regardless, my question to you is, how is £3.99 steam pack for Auric Cells different to a £3.99 Nicholas Cage pack in the steam store?

You are still paying for virtual content that doesn't exist outside the game either way.

I got a question for you

If it's not a big deal, why was buying just the DLC on steam option removed? Why do you think BHVR has taken a consumer choice away. Why do I need to pay extra for content i don't want, if i want to buy it on steam when I never had to do that before?

  • @oreoslurpee said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/384633/im-sorry-but-this-steam-price-is-pure-greed

i somewhat agree, i do feel like that new chapters should definitely be at $10, but as time goes on, i feel like those chapters and previous chapters (flesh fo mud, halloween, etc) should deterioate by 25, 30, or 50%. being from $10 USD to $7.50 (-25%), $7.00 (30%), $5.00 (-50%). btw im not saying it should be a system of 25, 30, to 50% reduction, im saying that as time goes on it should be reduced by either 25%, 30%, or 50%. not all 3, but ONE of the 3.

Yeah I can see your point honestly

I know many people probably look at this and go "uh its not a big deal" but genuinely, I think this is once again BHVR testing the waters regarding what kind of business practice they can get away with.

  • @UndeddJester said:

Not to be a fan boy leap to defence, but I'm genuinely having trouble understanding your complaint.

You either buy the package, giving you the extra content at a heavily discounted rate (most costumes are about £8.20), or you pay £3.99 for Auric Cells and buy just the character using the games premium in game currency.

You've said having to us ACs is a problem, butt not stated why, how does it differ paying £3.99 for Auric Cells and buying Cage with those, vs. paying £3.99 for pack in the steam store labelled Nicholas Cage?

To label it "greed" when there is a clear straight forward method of buying the content at the same price as other similar products, and also offering a version with some extra content added in at a reduced price is rather disingenuous.

You need to explain your issue.

    I've already explained it

BHVR has taken away an option from the consumer that was always there (Buying the DLC on steam for the same price). Now, that is not a thing for this DLC. You are FORCED to buy auric cells if you don't want to pay extra for content you don't want.

    That is my complaint.

  • @jasonq500 said:

I don't thinks its a problem on steam since you can just pay auric cells for 5 dollars or whatever it cost in other country on steam, the big problem is on consoles like Xbox since you have to pay 10 dollars so you can share with another account or else you pay 5 dollars to yourself and not other account holders if they wanted to try nick cage themselves

I don't have gripes with the idea of buying cells for characters

But when you are FORCED to do it in order to not get ripped off, that is not okay. BHVR has consistently put their DLC on steam for the same prices and now they are trying to pull this stuff in the hopes people just buy into it and don't question it despite the fact they are ripping you off

We shouldn't normalise companies taking options away from the consumer, it's bad enough they've been pulling the FOMO cosmetic stuff but now they're doing this as well. It might not seem like a big deal right now and maybe it isn't but watch - we become okay with this and the greed just gets worse.

  • @ReverseVelocity said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3492612#Comment_3492612

I don't really see the issue to be honest. You can still get him for slightly cheaper than a regular single-character chapter or you can buy the character with discounted cosmetics.

removing consumer choice for no reason other than greed should not be normalised

  • @tippy2k2 said:

So can you get him for the usual Auric Cells price or is he $10 this way or as an individual character in game?

    @ReverseVelocity said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3492607#Comment_3492607

You can get him for 500 Auric Cells, which is around the same price for single-character Chapters.

If you buy the Chapter, you get a Very Rare cosmetic with it, but it's $10. I think that works out to about half price for the cosmetic which isn't a bad deal honestly.

You can get him for 500

But they 'bundled in' content for the steam store and are charging more for it. Thus forcing you to buy aurics if you don't want that extra content

Actively removing choices from the consumer

The difference is Legion is a very popular killer. Sadako wasn’t and her only good playstyle was one of the most unhealthy things in the game.

I doubt they took the decision lightly to fully rework her this extensively. But her old power was very flawed and was only viable through a specific playstyle that was miserable to go against. I wouldn’t be surprised if BHVR tried to adjust her existing power first and determined it was beyond fixing without substantial changes such as these. Fwiw, I can’t remember the last time I lost to a Sadako who wasn’t using the slug playstyle.

That said, she’s not perfect in her current state either. I think she will still need some more adjustments. But it’s a much better starting point than how she was before.

Sorry to say this, but you are completely incorrect. Slug condemn was NOT the only good playstyle and I'm sick of pretending it was. I have never in my life played that playstyle and my winrate with sadako is one of the highest among my killers. I lose more with stronger killers

Please stop spreading this misinformation that a playstyle popularised by 1 streamer is the ONLY good one. it's just wrong. There's no tangible proof to it, it's just a huge misconception. Is it more effective then playing other ways? In the same way that tunnelling and camping at 5 gens is - probably.

Isn't that requiring more skill expression, though? You can't just aimlessly teleport and see "oh, survivors are here", you have to know where they are already and teleport with intent. That's requiring more skill, not less.

No comment on the second part, if it's just personal taste. That's fair.

As for demanifesting ending chase... yeah, I'm not sure. It does feel annoying, but it is also kind of how it should work, considering other killers. One could easily argue that requires more skill expression too, of course, but I don't know that I'd go that far.

The point is that the teleporting info was useful for macrogame and losing it is unnecessary.

And yeah about the demanifestation thing - the only killers who have powers that end chase are Wraith (Who is super fast while cloaked so makes sense), Twins (Makes sense, you're controlling an entirely different character) and... Who else? Myers/Ghostface lose chase while stalking but not immediately.

So, no - it's not in line with other killers. 80% of the roster don't lose chase while trying to use their power midchase

  • @jesterkind said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3491475#Comment_3491475

I'm not sure what you mean by using TVs for information on survivors, could you elaborate?

Playing for Condemned pretty obviously got buffed, considering now you can both prevent a survivor from removing their Condemned stacks and apply more of them on hit.

The Manifestation/Demanifestation addons being nerfed is pretty much the only genuine downside I would agree with here, but I don't think it's fair to say that lowers her overall skill expression at all, let alone considerably.

And the power obviously isn't fundamentally different, all the pieces are still there. It's much closer to the Doctor and Leatherface reworks; same general power with the same general mechanics, but the way you engage with it changed a little.

Current Sadako when you teleport, the survivors who get hit with condemn are highlighted on the HUD, meaning you can see "oh, these survivors are the ones here".

They made condemned "easier" by making it the main part of the power which don't get me wrong, I like the idea but in execution it just feels wrong.

Also I wasn't just talking about the addons, the fact demanifesting ends chase means survivors can infinitely vault windows unless you stay manifested which is needlessly punishing imo

  • @jesterkind said:

I've seen a lot of people say that new Sadako has less skill expression, and I don't understand that even slightly. If anything, if there's a problem with Sadako after these changes, it's that she requires too much skill expression.

You have to showcase a ton of map awareness to utilise Sadako properly. You need to know exactly where the survivors are, when they've picked up a tape, which direction they're running to insert that tape, and you need to position yourself to actually take advantage of those things. The changes that make tape interruptions matter boost her skill expression massively.

Genuinely, what skill expression did Sadako players even lose? I don't consider slug-for-Condemned to be particularly skill expressive, and nor is teleporting aimlessly within ten seconds of emerging, so... what's lost here?

The changes aren't perfect but they're definitely an improvement, and to compare them to Old Freddy is especially off the mark. That killer fundamentally changed, Sadako hasn't.

Using TVS for information on survivors

    Playing Condemn playstyle without slugging

Manifestation/Demanifestation mindgames (They are still there but they got nerfed)

Just a few things worth mentioning

And I disagree I think this is a fundemental difference, their powers work completely differently now.

  • A pointless rework that's ruined the character for a lot of people

No it IS false advertising actually. You don't make someone pay for something then change it thats like paying to get a burger then they hand you a piece of poop wrapped in a tortilla and go "Its part of the package that we get your order wrong.". And what you're suggesting will never fix the problem just destroy killers who already struggle. Keep nerfing any killer who can utilize a 3 gen in any way instead of just...fixing the 3 gen which you're hugely over complicating.

Most people didn't buy Skull Merchant with money tho tbf lmao

I get your point but it's a live service game and I'm p sure they make it clear somewhere that content can and will be changed whenever they see fit. As long as you still keep the content you paid for it's not illegal as far as I'm aware

Crazy because OVERCHARGE literally does nothing for me when I use it. Everybody and their mama can hit the skill check just fine lol.

Well you gotta consider other factors in this one particular match

Shotgun speaker addon which makes the skillcheck sound silent, it can throw off your muscle memory.

Hitting the skillcheck REPEATEDLY can get annoying, I can hit it consistently too but it's a game of odds and eventually you will get unlucky. I've seen some people already mention the skillchecks position can alter your chance of hitting it, the closer it is to where the needle starts, the less likely you are to be be able to hit it

Also again this killer did practically nothing but kick gens, most people don't play like this, at least not since the nerfs. Most games won't have all these rolls of the dice so to speak.

Hold up... How is OVERCHARGE taking 15%? It says 4% for missed skill check. Can someone explain that?

I think it's because it adds the penalty onto the default 10% missed skillcheck penalty, resulting in 14%. It was 15% but it got toned down and not everyone has realised, since there's little difference

It's called "Save the best for last" if the obsession dies early, you should be punished for it IMO.

This is what you normalised instead of fighting it. Congratulations.

    This is actually disgusting

These business practices are a disgrace and we as consumers continue to conceed ground and normalise it.

never understood the whole pub players thing

literally 99.5% of the player base are pub players

Some people genuinely use it as an insult/a way to prop themselves up for ego related reasons. I've faced many people with "comp" in their steam bio, steam group or w/e and they call you a "pub bot" if you don't play the way they expect you to or if you outplay them. It's a cope

Though, most people just use it to differentiate regular players from people who play comp... For some reason. Until they add an official comp mode it's kinda pointless to make the distinction

    • The word 'Tech' has completely lost all meaning and the line between actual techs and exploits has been blurred so much that most people either assume they mean the same thing or only use the word 'tech' when they like it and the word 'exploit' when they don't like it.
    • People misconstrue 'Casual player' as 'bad player' or 'player who doesn't care about winning or playing well' when the actual definition of a casual player is someone who just tries to enjoy the game for what it is without trying to minmax their experience, take the game too seriously or just plays the game how they want to.
    • Calling other players "pub players" is stupid because there's no official comp mode but it's even more stupid when it's used as an insult/reference to someone's level of play. Some people do it purely to gatekeep or ego stroke
    • Treating Camping/Tunnelling as a taboo thing that you shouldn't do ever is an extremely harmful mindset that new players pick up from the community and it further perpetuates the divide between the people who play the roles. Of course, the same goes for SWFing, Genrushing and the like. In a nutshell, it's completely fine to dislike a tactic or think it's xyz but don't take it out on players.
    • The new flashlight save timing is too generous and takes little to no skill compared to how it used to be. The only way you mess up a flashlight save right now is by not getting an angle or blinding way too early with good ping.
    • These forums are far better for people wanting to discuss the game than twitter or reddit. DBDTwitter is full of people so full of themselves just begging for attention, likes and so on whereas Reddit has that echochamber problem where having an opinion people don't like = downvoted and hidden.
    • Garden of Joy is overhated by the Killer community. It is by no means the most balanced map ever, but I would rather play on Garden of Joy instead of a lot of other maps.
    • The recent tide of fanservice/thirst crowd pandering is incredibly cringe and I'm sick of seeing it. From the DBDTwitter runner to the in game anniversary quotes, cosmetics and the like.
  • To be honest, I think they likely won't make a big thing of it for the whole roster, instead focusing on select characters or creating new ones with that sort of thing in mind. With David, they really put the effort in to make a really long story to accompany it which is way more effort than some companies do with this topic.

Does kinda suck that David hasn't really got much in the way of cosmetics lately though, as someone who mains a character with barely any I feel the pain.

It's about inclusivity, not exclusivity. Edit: also, this should be quite obvious, but country flags make a game political, which doesn't belong in a game.

    How?

Like I know this whole thread is a bait but I'm genuinely curious how is a flag that represents someone's nationality political? You can't control where you're born, just the same as you can't control a lot of other characteristics about yourself. It doesn't stop people being proud of them, right?
