  • This is no longer just an inconvenience, It is a price hike

    That's what this is

If you want both characters it's £7.50 which is more than the usual steam DLC price

  • @evilspawn said:

You do know you can buy the characters separately in-game?

    That's not the point

They are once again forcefully bundling in content people might not want and jacking up the DLC price to FORCE you to buy auric cells

  • And people said I overreacted when I said the Nic cage one was pure greed

  • Hey there, I think can offer some decent advice

First and foremost - Pallets. His biggest counter are pallets.

Drop them early if you need to as Clown's whole thing is being able to slow down vaults but pallet vaults are unaffected by this, meaning if you play it well you can force him to break it and move onto the next. Good Clowns know this and will attempt use set up a yellow bottle at the tile, if they do this - hold W elsewhere. Some clowns also run stuff like brutal strength or STBFL so keep an eye out for those

However do not drop pallets mindlessly, good killers are also used to dealing with survivors who predrop pallets. You need to mix it up. Go for fakes or vaccum stuns (Where you pretend to keep running then drop the pallet for the stun last second).

    Second big tip - PRE-RUN.

As soon as you hear the terror radius, leave the area. Greeding is what lets Clown get maximum use from his bottles as he can repeatedly pelt you with bottles from medium range and it's basically a guaranteed hit if there's no pallets. Avoid deadzones like the Plague (pun intended)

Third and final tip - Bottle interuptions and camping

Clown has a sort of built in way to make camping easier. He can lob bottles at people unhooking and if it's timed right, it will cancel the unhooking. Average Clowns won't use this, but the good ones certainly will so keep this in mind.

I was running, that's it. And to be fair, even if a survivor makes any other noise in their surroundings, they still should not detect you. Knight by default is a design failure but this makes him even less bearable.

There's def elements of jank to Knight's power that make him frustrating to play against, as well as when playing him

But yeah the loud noise detection system is likely there to make it so dropping pallets/vaulting windows in their radius is punished. There is weird jank associated with elevation as well, I'm not an expert on Knight but I've been playing him a lot lately and I've noticed it

  • I believe if you cause a loud noise notification while in their patrol radius, they can ignore line of sight and start a hunt

So if you fast vaulted a window/pallet or fail a skillcheck in their radius, they'll detect you.

I would. Considering the skeleton of her being so versatile and modular is there right now, it can easily be refined to be the best strategic/macro killer we've ever had, as far as I'm concerned.

If we got a better version of Skull Merchant, one that doesn't require drastically overhauling her, she and Wesker would stand as the two pinnacles of the two general schools of killers; Wesker as the conceptually extremely simple but mechanically nuanced type, and Skull Merchant as the mechanically simple but strategically nuanced one.

You already don't have to just put drones on generators, for the record. It's just that it's both not quite as good as it should be to do otherwise, and the best build you can bring for it requires purple addons, so it's prohibitively expensive.

I disagree, if any Killer deserves to stand as the pinnacle of a strategically nuanced character it's Singularity

Far better represents macro-play than SM ever will tbh.

    ???

Her core design hasn't changed at all. I laid out what I consider the difference between core design and live balance, and it's not even slightly semantics. Her live balance has changed a lot, but her core design - AOE drones that have multiple effects - hasn't changed once.

The only killer whose core design has ever changed is Freddy, and that was a travesty that should never be repeated unless unavoidably necessary-- which it is not for Skull Merchant.

What Skull Merchant needs is something like the Doctor and Leatherface reworks. The same core design, but with the interactions and specifics changed to better fit in the game; giving Leatherface his tokens + speed increase, and removing Doctor's stance swap + simplifying his Madness gain, to be specific.

When I say "best in recent years", as I said very explicitly, I mean she has the potential to be because of her core design. Obviously she isn't in a good spot, that's why these threads exist in the first place. What she doesn't need is to be Freddy'd, because what's there can absolutely be fixed.

I may not have been clear enough, and that would be on me, so I think simplifying my take is a good idea. When I say her core design isn't a failure and doesn't need to be changed, the distinction I am making is that she does not need the treatment that Freddy got, where his power completely changed. She needs something like Doctor or Leatherface, where the power remained roughly the same but made healthier.

I do agree that a Killer using drones on paper seems like a cool idea that could be salvaged

But I wouldn't call it one of the best 'core designs' we've had in years. There was potential to the idea but BHVR chose the path they chose and we got what we got

Maybe a Doctor/Bubba tier rework would solve the issues but I don't see how outside of a heavy rework they can make the Killer anything more than putting drones over generators and not much else.

  • Run Iron Will Lucky Break for a week if you wanna see how much having no scratchmarks would impact the game

Killers would really struggle on a lot of maps

The one thing I agree with you on here (kinda) is that Lock On isn't a particularly well designed element of her kit. In fact, considering how little it aids her in the ways she seems designed to play, I recommended removing it in my fix-it post a little while ago.

With Lock-On removed, the rest of her kit could be adjusted and she could get a better suite of addons to better emphasise what I'm talking about, which is the versatile and modular design of her kit.

Though, I do have to point out- nothing you've mentioned here is core design? It's all how she's actually balanced, like, the specific numbers and such for how she plays on live servers. In those terms, yeah, she's doing very poorly, but in terms of core design she stands to be one of the best in the past few years. She's got a kernel of something really, really good in there that got buried under some mishandling and the looming monster that is the 3-gen problem.

Bro her 'core design' was so bad it had to be changed several times before it went live and EVEN THEN it had to be changed even more because it was still bad. It took 12 months to make this character, supposedly and this is what they came up with?

I feel like by playing the core design card, you're trying to play semantics. How can you honestly say this Killer is "one of the best in recent years"? Like how can you say that I don't get it. Her power is putting drones on things when you boil it down

  • DC penalty should stay

You should not be rewarded for disconnecting against something you don't like. That's what leaving a match and being able to jump straight into the next one instantly is - it's a reward.

  • Personally I believe Skull Merchant is the worst killer ever put into this game. She stands as a representation of how you DON'T make a killer.

Her power is both needlessly complicated and yet it still somehow ends up as shallow as an empty paddling pool. Her whole aesthetiic is supposed to be "ooo she's a hunter who can be anywhere ooo" and what does that translate to in gameplay?

She puts drones on generators or puts drones on tiles mid chase and that's it.

Lock-on is a joke of a mechanic that only exists to make drones something survivors can't ignore. Once you figure this out, there is very little to this character. At least Knight, as flawed of a Killer he is - has to actually think about the best ways to utilize his cycling guards

Let's talk about Lock on. The only time a skull merchant will ever down someone due to lock-on is because either the survivor let themselves be locked on or got locked on 50 seconds ago and the SM uses a drone to completely reset the progress of it I hope this goes without saying but resetting lock-on is also a completely overtuned joke.

Now let's talk about her power's "Counterplay". How do you counter this character? You remove the drones and get a clawtrap but BHVR in their infinite wisdom decided that the communities complaints about this character being essentially default m1 killer in chase needed addressing so they bolted on haste. A lazy bandaid fix they already recently added to Knight as well.

There's also the fact that SM can spam reactivate her drones with the radar, which in term re-enables the unhackable period which means survivors have to suck their thumb and wait to be granted the privilege of countering her power. This to me is probably the most annoying part of facing SM, how much you just need to sit around waiting to actually counter her power.

    So let's summarise

Uncounterable tracking from various sources (Lock-on Killer Instinct, Clawtraps and the drones themselves)

Bolted on haste as a bandaid fix for a power that's only use in chase is turning an area into a "if i dont leave i die" zone

Bolted on stealth which still baffles me why it's even a thing when most people would agree it does literally nothing, to the point a lot of SMs run the obliviious addon instead since it's objectively better

A status effect that only exists to give survivors a reason to remove drones rather than giving the killer something to actually try to earn downs with. Also has an overtuned 'reset' mechanic tied into it

And while I'm at it - her lore, character design, aesthetic are all horrible with no redeeming factors. The only thing I like about her is her weapon.

That all said, I am hopeful a rework might be able to salvage the character. I just hope they don't end up making it worse somehow and I've been burned before, the Sadako rework made me straight up quit one of my fav characters.

  • If you can keep the 'chase' going the window will eventually get blocked but if MFT allows them to break chase then theoretically they may get extra vaults out of it

You probably also want to try and push them to run the building the other way, I think there's a way you can run it that'll make using the window a little bit harder but I'm not sure

  • was a bug where you could get two killers in 1 match

hasn't been a thing for a long time as far as i know, only cheaters could do it last i checked

last time i saw two killers in a match hawkins was still around

I agree, but the ability to shut off my power which I specifically paid for should never be given to survivors.

    That makes absolutely no sense

Xenomorph has two powers, one of which is a powerful chase tool and needs a check/balance. Every killer has those

    Trapper has disarming traps

Wraith has pallet stunning him out of cloak

Hillbilly/Bubba have their power being stopped by windows and sometimes lockers

Nurse... Okay you've got me on that one. She has to fatigue after ever blink and she's slower than default.

Myers has breaking line of sight to delay tier ups

Hag has crouching and trap removal

Doctor has snap out of it, as well as using lockers to avoid static blast

Huntress has to reload and has to be (semi) accurate

Pig has the jigsaw boxes and her dash is heavily telegraphed

Clown has to reload and his gas is avoidable

Spirit has... Okay, again you've got me here. I guess the fact she loses sight of you?

Legion has a power that can only down you if he lands 4 successful frenzy hits

    Nemesis/Wesker/Plague have infection cures

Ghost Face has reveal (when it works). You can also bodyblock him while he's carrying if you're 99'd to force a reset

Demogorgon has removeable portals/a jukeable power

Oni has predropping pallets/taking sharp turns

Deathslinger has to reload/you can break the chain

Pyramid Head's ranged attack is telegraphed and torment can be removed, albeit not very often

Blight... Uhh, has to recharge his power/fatigue? Yeah we'll go with that

Twins has kicking victor/keeping hold of him

    I could go on

The weakest design part about this perk on the Survivor's side, is the Obsession isn't given a clue as to the perk's existence. Often times an allied Obsession who never gets in chase (because the Killer was purposefully ignoring them) says something ignorant like "why did you guys all go down so fast", not realizing the fact they weren't pressuring stacks off of STBFL being the reason.

Personally I'd like a few changes to it. First, the Obsession is informed of the perk at 2+ or 4+ stacks. Secondly, at 8 stacks, the Obsession is exposed, but if they are put into the dying state then stacks are reset to 0. That way you are actually playing into 'Saving the Best for Last', but it also can't be cheesed around by power downing the Surv. These are just rough draft ideas though, but the Obsession should be informed somehow at least.

You raise valid points and ideas. To me, the problem is - even if I'm the obsession and I know the perk is in play

    1) If i'm not in chase and I'm not doing generators, I'm failing my team by not being productive.

    2) If it's Pig, Demogorgon, Pyramid Head, Nemesis, Deathslinger, Twins, Wesker, Knight and soon Xenomorph - they all have ways of either ignoring the downside of damaging me anyway or have ways of making it less of an issue.

Deathslinger's chain break is my favourite one, because if Slinger spears you - they WILL waste so much time waiting for the chain to break if you don't struggle.

  • Stop playing the game

I'm serious, if you actually want to keep playing it - you will get the itch and come back. That's how I do it, if the game's not stimulating I stop until my brain decides I want more of it. Could be a week. Could be a month or could be when there's new content to explore

  • STBFL:

    • Very little counterplay overall
    • What little counterplay it has can be bypassed by several killers
    • Incentivises playing super safe on the survivor side aka predropping/not taking risks for altruism
    • Rewards and incentivises camping
    • Remains active even when the obsession is dead, which makes no sense given the perks theme and design
    • As map design gets more balanced with more deadzones and less abuseable loops to chain; this perk only increases in strength
    • The removal of hook grabs only made the issue slightly better when it comes to this perk

No one on the team had MFT and they were fast when healed. I bought it was Dramaturgy but no one had that either.

They (cheaters) are making a kind of resurgence so I wouldn't rule it out

The most cheaters I've seen in one game though was only two.

The reason I mentioned the possible placebo thing is because genuinely I feel like when I'm playing badly/not in a great mindset etc survivors feel impossible to catch even though they aren't doing anything wrong. Don't take this as me saying that's what it is, i'm just trying to put forward alternative ideas

  • imagine wanting to win this badly that you'd make your game look like it belongs on a 3DS

"it just looks better" yeah ok

  • It used to be subtle speed hacks, but with made for this and other haste perks - the line has kind of been blurred. Even still, face MFT for a while and you'll still be able to tell when someone is moving wayyy too fast. They'll even do it when healthy. For your scenario unless you got insanely bad luck and found a cheater squad, it may have just been a placebo effect of some kind.

This tweet is either uninformed or intentionally misrepresenting the situation. The page they're quoting from was created in 2014 and the text they're quoting was present on the page when it was created. It's not relevant to the current situation because library sharing has allowed you to use characters since the game was released, well after 2014.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20140827200708/http%3A//store.steampowered.com/promotion/familysharing

This is likely a bug. If it wasn't, BHVR would have flagged this as intentional or closed the report, not flagged it as being investigated.

    Ah, fair enough

It's a weird situation, but if this is true then it should be within BHVR's power to fix!

  • Hey posting this here

Apparently it's not BHVR who has done this, it's steam

    https://twitter.com/aIexhwa/status/1691782686484877683

So this seems to be on Steam/Valve rather than BHVR.

  • Apparently this is intentional but it's not BHVR's fault

I've heard that steam shadow-updated their family share policy/system:

    https://twitter.com/aIexhwa/status/1691782686484877683

  • Can confirm this as well, was working until 7.1.2a

  • Yeah it's intentional, because when a pentimento hex is removed, it's supposed to basically be out of play permanently like a cleansed totem. Blessing them would cause a conflict by essentially bringing a dull totem back into the game which isn't what pentimento is meant to do

Whenever I switch pages in the forum currently, there's a very brief white page that appears when loading the area you're going to, e.g. if you're on the homepage and click 'General Discussions' you'll get a flash of white and then the page loads.

This really aggravates my eyes especially when I'm frequently browsing the forum at night - I don't know if there's a workaround anyone's aware of, or if it's something that can be changed, but I'd appreciate any assistance with it.

This is a temporary solution but I highly recommend you install an extension called 'Dark reader' - it's available for Firefox/Chrome and maybe others. Not only does this fix the white flash on refresh issue, it'll basically add dark mode to any other website automatically

  • Could just have it on by default and let people turn it off

That's how Steam does it and it seems to work pretty good!

anything that is strong like wesker, blight, nurse or skull merchant is unfun/boring/bad game design right

    absolutely not biased survivors (:

running 5 times around every stone and breaking 20 pallets again and again every game is so fan right (no)

Difference is wesker, blight and nurse all actually take some skill to be good with and at least engage survivors in chase to win their games. If the Wesker, Blight or Nurse isn't good in chase - they usually lose.

Skull Merchant takes no skill and actually renders a lot of survivor skill irrelevant to the equation. Look at that Team Eternal match. No doubt the survivors in that game have 10x the experience and skill of the SM player but because the SM player has mastered the art of walking to generators, pressing m2 and space bar - the match lasted 50 minutes.

It becomes a test of patience/sunk cost fallacy than any display of skill or outplaying your opponent.

  • @ARTRA said:

I will tell a few random stuff if some helps.

    - Hemorrage now depletes health progress super fast when not healing. Sloopy + nurses works fine.

    - Jolt its awesome, have no CD and now makes people scream if in gens.

    - If you grab someone from a locker you have blind inmmunity during annimation, was cheeseable.

    - Perks like Off the record and desisive stricke turn off when doors are open.

    - You cant grab a survivor if they are unhooking.

    - Yes, ruin commits sudoku if someone its killed.

    - Corrupt intervention goes off if someone is downed.

    - Flashlight no longer counter Wraith by burning, Hags traps(now clean like demo portals),Nurses teleport.

-Buy wesker, hate skull merchant as killer and survivor.

There are more things but this is something hope helps.

Small correction, Off the Record/DS turn off when the final gen is done. Even if they were on before the last gen pops.

Also @GaunterODimmDBD bots will now replace survivor players who DC. Pretty big thing given how impactful DCs likely were when you played.

Getting hit isn't always due to a mistake. I take a lot of hits on purpose to avoid dropping a strong pallet or to gain distance when I know I'm in a bad spot. Sometimes it's less risky to just take a hit and run to a stronger area of the map than too try to run a short loop with nothing around it. Then there's body blocking for teammates which is also intended.

There's also Nemesis. I use his zombies a lot to get infected or take a hit and gain loads of distance on the killer.

    @Sackboy123 said:

Getting hit is not always a mistake. Now wasting a Pallet without taking a hit, now that's a mistake. 2 Health States are there for a reason and sometimes taking a hit is the smart play

I'm not saying I agree completely with OP's POV here, but the way the game is set up - survivors have two 'chances' so to speak. You lose a chance when you make a mistake. When you lose both chances, you go down. This is why stuff like DH Adren etc are called 'second chance' perks. The point OP is making is that there is no prerequisite to MFTs haste nor is there any reasonable way to avoid it

To take @Sackboy123 's example, if I come across a killer using enduring spiri fury hubris, how can I avoid it? Predrop pallets or abuse windows all game.

You're both right that getting hit is not always a mistake, I 100% agree, but the point OP is making here is that being injured by itself rewarding you does seem a bit cheap. This is why DH was complained about so much.

  • I want shorter games with worse graphics made by people who are paid more to work less and I am NOT kidding.

  • @Sackboy123 said:

Let's not mention Spirit Fury, Enduring and Hubris. Rewarding Killers for failing a mind game and getting an instant down

How can you fail a mindgame if your whole build is centered and tailored around "I want to be stunned by pallets"

That's not the same thing as making a mistake, getting hit and then being 3% faster JUST because you are injured. Exhaustion perks are conditional and require at least a bit of brainpower to use.

  • I don't really care what killer I'm facing these days, except SM

SM is the one killer that makes me genuinely want to stop playing or DC, because the bot that will replace me is incapable of getting bored and throwing because of it whereas that will almost certainly happen to me

  • I love Nic Cage but

It wasn't programmed to harm the crew.

It was supposed to help us build a safer home but - something happened. It became self aware. It has no empathy. It doesn't feel pain. It learns at an impossible rate and it won't stop until we are dead. Or worse.

  • IMO the best build for solo Q would be something like

Windows + Kindred + Off The Record + We'll Make it

Windows for chase and info, Kindred for info at crucial moments, OTR to keep you in the game longer and We'll make it to reset your teammates faster

  • If it's the same person I think it is, I'm p sure BHVR is doing everything they can to ban them to the point of hardware ID banning them and forcing them to try and circumvent it

Trust me when I say BHVR does at least try to deal with people who are genuinely the worst of the worst.

  • @Nos37 said:

Doesn't Alchemist Ring only slow survivors down by 3%, and only for a brief duration?

  • Correct answer:

    Who cares

Play what you want, caring about the opinions of strangers online isn't the way to live.

  • its not cheating, never has been never will be

It's endorsed by the developers, said people will not be banned for it

I don't care if you try to argue it's against the "spirit" of the game, if the developers/creators of a game come out and say playing with your friends and chatting isn't cheating, then it isn't. If you say otherwise you are objectively wrong, the devs define the rules of the game, not you.

  • Skull Merchant

Is it low hanging fruit? Yes

Don't care, still would remove from the game

  • As annoying as it sounds on paper it's not so bad if you get a 32m TR killer or a Wesker.

Basically you just need to hear the terror radius for 2 minutes total outside of chase. The other hide challenges involved being x amount of m from the killer which is a LOT harder because you had no easy way to know if you were getting progress or not.

If you get a stealth killer tho good luck

Cool, then why create a whole thread about a character you were never going to buy in the first place.

Why are people so opposed to the idea that customers of a product are unsatisifed with the decison making of the people making said product

Is it a thing where it's only a valid complaint if it bothers you personally?

I don't see a problem in buying auric cells...? I mean yeah, it takes a few more steps, but it's not that hard. I guess it's just that if you want the teal jacket variant from the DLC, but don't want to pay more than $5, then yeah I get it. Although, if you buy the DLC, you get a full cosmetic for half the price ($5 instead of $10).

My guess is that if you want the teal jacket, then you probably intend on getting Nicolas Cage cosmetics in the future, so the DLC is a great deal for you. People who don't care about cosmetics on their characters wouldn't care about the teal jacket.... which is where Auric Cells are your friend :)

    @Manky said:

I cba reading this whole argument but goddamn... is this really a problem?

Option 1: Buy a DLC for 10 bucks and get a cosmetic.

Option 2: Buy 500 Auric Cells for 5 bucks and get only the survivor.

It doesn't matter where you buy it, it all goes through your Steam Wallet. I don't know why you would have an issue with using 3rd party currency when the money is going to the same people via the same payment method. It's not like they force you to buy 700 Auric Cells knowing full well that you only need 500 like a lot of other games do. It's a rare case of in game currency actually being sold fairly. Sure, you might not get a DLC on Steam but you still get the content you wanted. There is absolutely no practical difference except for a cosmetic which you don't want. I understand that you might want to collect all the DLC or whatever, but that is a you problem, not a BHVR problem. The content is offered at reasonable prices for each respective purchase. You can't expect a company to tailor every product to your personal preferences. The content is available at the price you want. It's not greed.

Again the issue is not buying auric cells

The issue is forcing your customers to do so by removing options that were there for years. If it's not a big deal like people keep saying could you please explain why the option to buy the DLC for the normal price on steam was removed

That is all I am asking

  • I just want the old ones back

Might even mod them back in at this point

This doesn't seem like it should be a thing to start with. Are they supposed to carry across to different accounts on Steam? Console stores don't do this.

I believe it's intentional since I think you can opt your game out of it and BHVR even fixed it when it was bugged at one point, I remember seeing a patch note for it somewhere

Im not exactly sure what you are talking about, but you arent being forced to buy the bundle. any character can be bought with auric cells, with unlicensed characters able to be earned for free.

Again that's not the problem here.

The simple answer is Nic Cage gets a cut of DLC sales but very little if anything from auric cell purchases.

The one scenario I could see it being better to have bought the DLC from steam is if you lost a character for some reason, and had to show proof of purchase, which steam would be required to help resolve.

There's also family sharing as well, the DLCs bought on steam carry over but I don't believe the ones in game do (Which, again might also be a reason why they price hiked it)
