The issue with those perks in Solo is that you have to run so many things just to have a decent time and even then....eh.
Gotta have anti-tunnel, maybe even two, since anti-tunneling perks are weak. Exhaustion perk for sure and an altruistic perk since healing is a necessity. Gotta bring something for gens as well, since you're gonna be doing 7-8 on average.
5 perks already. No room for a QoL perk, I'm afraid.
Yes this is the issue! You are at a huge disadvantage for not running certain perks that your perk variety is limited. They’ve released some pretty decent perks but no one runs then because they can’t afford to take off their other perks. And this is pretty much only a solo issue.
Address the reasons why survivors run these perks and then solo players can start running more varied builds.

Well RIP Ghost Face and Freddy I guess

A dev once explained Billy’s placement as moderate. The reason they labeled him as that is because a new player can get decent value out of his chainsaw for mobility alone, so learning the basics is a lot more beginner friendly even if Billy is the hardest to master.
This does contradict a couple of their other killers’ difficulty labels, so I’m not 100% sure but this is just what I’ve heard in regard to Billy.
Ah yes. I remember this now. Still disagree with it though.
Pig can get good value just by placing a trap on people and not doing anything with it so by their logic she should also be Moderate.
Blight as well can get decent value just using his power for mobility yet he is Very Hard.
-
Never used the perk before so I don't how it works exactly, but does it still go on cool-down even if you don't get to use the suppressed vault? If so I think that should be the first thing changed.
-
What's the win condition for survivors though?

I think it was easily the best lobby background they've ever done. And it was there when Freddy first released, so it is special to me.
Oh yeah it was. Maybe that's why I have such nostalgia for it too.
I remember speed running my chemistry exam just so I could get home to play Freddy on release day haha
-
Hillbilly was listed as Moderate well before his buffs. Skull Merchant and Pig are apparently harder than Billy pre-buff.
Not to mention Artist and Knight being classified as "Average" height. Yeah I'd say those two belong in the same category as the Hag.

The problem with most of the perks you mentioned, is that you have to spend money for them (licensed). Friends till the end and Ultimate Weapon are really strong, but I don‘t like to open a locker for it. The nick cage perks are more fun perks, which is cool, besides of plot twist they aren‘t really useful.
COH: I would make it go out after a number of heals or that boons, which get distroyed have to be repaired and cleansed afterwards again. That sounds fair for me.
DH: I don‘t know whether you were immune while dashing, but if you were I would remove that and make the exhaustion timer longer.
I have the complete opposite opinion on the last part, but if they want to go that route, they should finally nerf pop and pain res. On the survivor side isn‘t really anything I could complain about and I play mostly killer. (I want to play survivor, but it‘s everytime a bad experience, so I play killer)
My problem with the nerf everything philosophy, is that this will never end. It will continue until everything is useless and even then that one perk, which isn‘t, will get nerfed and it continues.
Yes you are right that being behind a paywall would make it less common, but couldn't that also then be why no new perks are in the top ten in the first place?
CoH is fine as it is in my opinion, it just can't compete with the other good perks. Your idea wouldn't be a bad change though and limiting the amount of uses is how I always thought they should nerf it. There are other perks way more in need of buffs though that I think CoH should stay as it is for the time being.
The dash was the problematic part of Dead Hard though. It made every loop safe and allowed you to play more greedy and be rewarded for it every time. Removing the invincibility would just make it useless against Nurse and Blight but still overpowered against every other killer.
I agree that killer slowdown should be toned down. It heavily limits perk variety for killers and in order to compete with them any non-slowdown perk needs to be really powerful. And it's just not fun to play against at all.
As for survivors, there are a few perks I can think of that are a bit problematic. Even then though the issue is that while the most used perks are, for the most part, not overpowered - any perk that wants to compete with them HAS to be overpowered.
Take Gabriel's perks for example - Troubleshooter is a great perk, but its pick rate is low. Now look at how common MFT was. Despite Troubleshooter being good, it gets no usage because the most used perks are just too good or feel like you need to use them just to compete with the opponent. Why use Troubleshooter over Sprint Burst or Adrenaline? And then there are perks like Kindred which solo players kind of are encouraged to run. Without them they are at a disadvantage, so their perk choices are limited. Same with exhaustion - not using one puts you at a huge disadvantage so again you are limited in what you can use. And then WoO which just makes the game easier and better for new players to learn. If the perk is overpowered though, you can afford to take it off these perks but if it's just "good", then why bother?
Maybe just straight up nerfing all of them isn't the best idea either, but it's better then releasing more overpowered stuff. The best way to fix it though would be to figure out why everyone runs the same perks, address those issues, and THEN nerf them and release more good and fun perks that don't have to worry about power creeping the rest of them just to be used.
-
Singularity. Playing against someone who knows how to use him well is really intense.
Unfortunately he is very rare and when I do see him they usually aren't good so they just play him as an M1 killer or try to 3 gen :(

Demo is not weak and the doctor changes are good. I wished they buffed doctors illusions to move or that they work like mirages clones in apex legends.
It‘s just sad that there isn‘t one new survivor perk under the top 10 most used perks. All of them are very very old.
I was using the Demo and Doctor changes as an example of the killer buffs. They are not that big and in no way comparable to bringing back Dead Hard or CoH.
I do agree that survivors haven't gotten a lot of great perks recently though but they haven't received none. Dramaturgy, Plot Twist, and Troubleshooter are all good perks, they just can't compete with how good the most used perks are. Deja Vu also only reached top ten because of a recent buff.
Same with killer. The most recent killer perk in the top ten is from 2021. New perks such as Ultimate Weapon and Friends Til the End are also really good yet they also aren't in the top ten simply because, despite being good, the others still just outshine them.
Rather than make more powerful perks, they should nerf all the top tier ones and then buff the weaker perks or add new perks that are around the same level as the new nerfed top tiers. I mean this for both sides, not just survivor. Regression and slowdown perks are the biggest offenders of stopping perk variety.

CoH with 50% self heal was fine. DH dash-version was cool and they only needed to make some good anti exhaustion perks. Overcharge/Eruption/CoB I didn‘t play in that time or I didn‘t encounter them.
The thing is that strong perks win games for you hasn‘t changed. Now those perks are only for killers (pop/pain res/Grim embrace+dms).
I hope they return some of the old perks as soon as they helped some of the weaker killers to be in a good spot.
Disagree.
50% CoH was still an issue. Infinite free heals for the entire team is a bad idea.
Original Dead Hard was awful for killers. Adding more anti-exhaustion perks to counter a perk with 70%+ pick rate would have just forced killers to play with 3 perks and made every other exhaustion perk except Dead Hard nearly obsolete. If you are forced to run a perk just to counter another perk then the perk is an issue.
Trust me, the current Pain Res/Grim Embrace/DMS is NO WHERE near as bad as Overcharge/Eruption/CoB. Survivor was hell. Especially Eruption basically taking you out of the game for a whole 16 seconds. (GE/DMS should still be changed though don't get me wrong)
No perk should ever be at the level of CoH, Dead Hard, or Eruption no matter how fun they are. If a perk has to be overpowered for it to be fun, then the perk isn't fun you just like easier games.
Giving killers like Demo and Doctor small number changes is not anywhere near the same level as bringing any of those perks back.
I'd much prefer they just nerf the high tier killer perks in line with the rest of them rather than make more overpowered perks for survivors that completely shift the entire game around them.

I think the music was used again, during one of the the Haunted by Daylight events, but the background never returned.
Oh yes you are right, the first Haunted by Daylight had it. Unfortunately it was replaced again in the last one. I wish they would reuse some of the old music for killer lobby music. The old Winter Solstice theme from 2017-2018 would fit perfectly on Wraith for example.
I also just looked up the Hallow's Eve lobby again and damn that gives me nostalgia.
-
@jonifire said:
I think they should aim for a bit more than 55%, but not much higher. Killer is already easy enough, besides some of the weaker ones.
I don‘t like that survivors get mostly bad perks, because of the kill rate. I want some of the old perks back like coh, DH, ruin, iron wil etc for both sides. Strong perks are far more enjoyable than having only weak ones.
The issue is that broken perks like those are absolutely miserable when you play against them.
No one thought CoH, Dead Hard, Eruption, Overcharge/CoB were fun to play against. And the only reason people found these perks fun to use was because they just won games for you.
If a perk has to be either overpowered or weak, then I would personally choose for it to be weak.

I feel like Deathslinger's biggest issue is people only doing things with him that you could already do with Huntress. Deathslinger has shots and plays that HE can do that Huntress can't. Between that and all the perks that activate upon basic attacks, this mentality that he's just a worse Huntress just feels misplaced. Heck, alot of maps even remove the biggest advantage Huntress has over DS, which was range. The trees on the new map on the PTB make it impossible to hit a ranged Huntress hatchet
Honestly The Unknown might be his biggest problem now, not Huntress.
Unknown can shoot through a lot of the same gaps as Slinger and his attacks require less aim, the explosion damages through walls, AND can bounce getting more hits that Slinger could never get.
Add on to that a map wide teleport AND he's 115%!
The only thing Slinger has over Unknown is his ability to use M1 perks. Even then though that's not much since the only really good ones are Surge and Starstruck. Surge is just outclassed by a ton of other slowdown perks, and Unknown already has some map pressure to not need to Starstruck like Slinger.

Thanks for the info! Definitely a bit odd counting it as an escape for one aspect but null and void for another. I don't count hatch escapes in my own escapes anyway, only exit gate escapes.
I’m assuming they don’t count it to discourage people from slugging for the 4K. If hatch counted as a loss for killer then there would probably be much more of it.
Then again nothing in this game is consistent. For example, bleeding out and Moris don’t count to emblems but they do for MMR.

Blood Echo wasn't changed at all, the patch notes said it was changed but it's not.
Pyramid Head's purple addon that gave hemorrhage when stepping on a trail got reworked; now it's like a sloppy butcher but for Punishment hits, both status effects last 80 seconds.
All other Mangled addons have timers depending on addon rarity, yellow addons are 60 seconds, greens are 70, purples are 80. Perks with Mangled now last 90 seconds at tier 3 (Gift of Pain + Sloppy). Dredge's Tilling Blade addon which already had timed Mangled got buffed to 80 seconds (instead of 60).
Gift of Pain got nerfed back to 9% instead of 16% (I have no idea why they did this).
Wow thank you for that!
Thats a significant nerf to Gift of Pain though. Something like that should definitely have been included in the patch notes.

Would probably be higher if it weren’t for teammates giving up at the smallest inconvenience.
-
Yes please. They are annoying for so many killers (Billy, Blight, Wesker, Demo, Slinger, Xeno, Singularity, Huntress).
Just turn them into real bushes with no collision. Now there is hiding spaces AND more places for Trapper to set up!

Conversely, overbuffing that role in Death Garden and Evolve killed those games. So I guess the pendulum swings both ways huh?
Yep. Never said otherwise.
-
No I'm doing fine. Still escaping the majority of my games.
Also it's kind of disingenuous to exclude half the other sides of your points.
Yes Blight's addon got buffed, but the rest of them all got nerfed.
Yes Mangled got buffed (ages ago), but it's been nerfed again on the PTB
Yes gen kicks are 5%, but they are limited now
Yes killers got some perk changes, but so did survivors (Deja Vu in particular)
STBFL is barely even run anymore. Saying it maintained its impact when it's now only useful on a few killers, and killers that are already low tier mind you, is kind of silly.
If you need the DH/DS combo or MFT to have fun then it doesn't seem like you care about balance and just want easy wins. It's like a killer saying Eruption was peak DBD. DH/DS was miserable for killers. (DS should be buffed back to 5 seconds, or at the least 4 seconds though)
No matter how much they buff survivor, it will never fix the mentality of the player base. Survivors could only have to stand still next to each other for 10 seconds to instantly win and yet people would still find some way to mess that up.

I can’t answer why they’ve decided on a 60/40 split beyond it somehow creates a near 50/50 win rate. And don’t ask me to explain how that works (I believe it has something to do with the game being a [1v1v1v1] v 1). Frankly, I don’t think it’s a good strategy. It killed games like Death Garden, VH1, Evolve, Evil Dead, and other asymmetrical games. But I’m sure the devs have a reason I just can’t see.
Nah VHS and Evil Dead died because the killer role was miserable.

Gen speed perks are garbage lol, who is using them?
I know BHVR is trying to create gen progress meta but survivors are not using them because simply, they are garbage. The only good one is Dejavu. And even it's not meta perk.
Also Anti-Facecamp is just garbage as well. Camping was strong strat with Bubba, Trickster, Huntress etc. Still those killers are so strong with camping. So what changed? Nothing.
Plot Twist? Lmao. Healing with medkit is so much faster than wasting time with this perk. Background Player is good perk for SWFs tho. Buckle Up + FTP confirmed to be nerfed. So what's next?
I wouldn't say all gen speed perks are bad. Resilience is meta and Deja Vu is amazing for solo queue. There is almost always one of each in my games. Hyperfocus is also pretty good.
The rest though... yeah...
-
It's a buff. You still get the slowdown from the traps and a pretty good buff to her ambush. The only Pig's this nerfs are those who spend the game just tunnel 1 survivor until their head pops and then the rest all escape.

Ran across this earlier showcasing how crazy he can thread the needle. Shooting through the fencing is nuts.
As far as Huntress vs Deathslinger comparisons... Deathslinger DOES have advantages when it comes with perks. Perks that proc from M1s are typically met for Huntress, but not so for Deathslinger. This let's him benefit from perks like sloppy butcher and surge, as well as exposed perks like starstruck.
I completely forgot about M1 perk synergy. You are right, that is a good advantage he has over Huntress. Especially Starstruck which is pretty great on him and can help make up for his lack of pressure.
Although after the Huntress mega buffs I don't think that is even enough to justify playing him over her now.
-
"Survivors are getting bad and bad content, nothing good"
Speak for yourself. Alan Wake is one of the greatest things to come to DBD for me.
Also getting to play against new killers is fun as survivors and I personally find it just as exciting to verse a new killer as it is to play against them. I don't play Billy at all but I love the buff simply because I can actually play against him now.
Gabriel also gave us Troubleshooter which is a good perk. Not meta, but neither is Friends Til The End as you listed.
I do think they should give some low tier survivor perks some buffs, but to say they've gotten nothing is a bit of an exaggeration, especially when most of what survivors ask for is killer nerfs, not survivor buffs, and they've given us most of what we've asked for. So I think it's really unfair to say BHVR doesn't care about survivors when they've been taking our feedback a lot recently.
(Also I wouldn't exactly call Singularity a fun killer, especially when no one is even playing him anymore)
-
Give HUNK Looming Dread! (And voice lines)
-
Just make FTP not count as a healing action. It would stop this combo while keeping both perks the same strength on their own and any other future healing perk won't have to be adjusted because of a possible synergy with FTP.
-
He could use some buffs, especially since Huntress is receiving some changes soon. He's already weaker than her and depending on how they changes Huntress there might be no reason to even bother playing him over her soon. He is punished way too much for missing, especially when landing the shot isn't even a guaranteed hit either.
Increasing his reload speed again and reworking all of his add ons would be a good start (and maybe all he would need)
@Caiman said:
Sometimes it feels like the hitbox of his spear is the size of a needle. Meanwhile Huntress's hatchets hit like they're trucks.
That can be a good thing sometimes. You can get some shots through little gaps you couldn't reach with Huntress. Only thing Slinger really has over her.

So any nurse that is not at high mmr is just bad/not getting 3k/4k? The majority of nurse players are just bad? So then how is she the most OP killer in the game? Because of 1/199 matches in the game?
Just because a nurse isnt in high MMR doesnt mean she doesnt regularly 3/4k
How does this not apply to the rest of the killer roster? Why are you singling out nurse here?
Other killers cant be bad? Or "hard to play" explain Spirit for me here, or Dredge, both of these killers are not easy to pick up/play. One of them is slower than normal and you can't even see anyone when you use your power. You dont think that throws anyone off?
There are many problems with this theory, not only are you applying a single parameter of "hard to play" to nurse and no one else in the killer roster, you are assuming the best of low MMR survivors and the worst of low MMR nurse players but ONLY for nurse. Every other killer in low MMR just does amazing right?
This is not consistent at all.
"So any nurse that is not at high mmr is just bad/not getting 3k/4k?"
Never said that.
"The majority of nurse players are just bad?"
Never said that, but yes, the majority are bad because she is a hard killer to play.
"So then how is she the most OP killer in the game?"
Because when you CAN play her she is broken, but the majority of players can't. Just because something is hard to play doesn't mean it can't be broken. (And even then I only really find Nurse to be a big problem when she is running full slow down)
"How does this not apply to the rest of the killer roster? Why are you singling out nurse here?"
You brought up Nurse, not me. It does apply to other killers. I never said it only applied to Nurse, I only mentioned her because you did. You just can't apply the same logic to every killer.
For example: Huntress is a very good killer when you master her yet she has a relatively low kill rate as well. Is she low tier? Or is it just because she is the 2nd most played killer, only behind the most recent DLC, so she is very popular and not everyone can play her like a pro? Same with Singularity. Is he weak, or is he just to demanding play efficiently?
"Other killers can't be bad?"
Again, never said this. Yes there are other hard to play killers - for example SIngularity, Huntress, and Billy (all of which also are on the bottom end of kill rates, but not the point). Unlike those killers though, Nurse plays nothing like other killers. You can't rely on M1 hits or general killer knowledge to play her. Dredge I also think is not a great example - the only aspect of his power that is hard is his anti-loop, he has a high skill ceiling but low skill floor. He's much harder to play against than as for new players.
"not only are you applying a single parameter of "hard to play" to nurse and no one else in the killer roster, you are assuming the best of low MMR survivors and the worst of low MMR nurse players but ONLY for nurse."
Again, I never said any of this and YOU brought up Nurse and compared her to Freddy (and Pig), not me. There is WAY too much going on behind these stats to justify ANY conclusion from them. You can make theories and guesses and get a general idea of a killers balance, but without seeing the kill rates and pick rates across all MMR levels, it's really hard to make a conclusion.
TL;DR: I never said any of that. Freddy is not in anyway comparable to Nurse. One is arguably the hardest, one is a contender for the easiest in the game. There is way too many confounding factors at play that make it hard to form any conclusion with these stats. What I was originally getting at is that your theory doesn't hold up because Nurse isn't dominating at low MMR.

@ChuckingWong said:
Starting to believe more and more that people just repeat what someone says, rather than actually approaching it themselves.
Originally, the people who say hes a meme are extremely high tier content creators that, in every shape or form of the game, are more experienced at the game than... 99% of DBD's active player base. So people take what those players say, repeat it, and apply it to themselves when it comes to killers like Freddy or Pig.
Personally for me,
I have never seen a series of games where Freddy is just this huge meme that everyone seems to make him out to be. He has okayish antiloop with his slow, can pressure the map quite well with teleport, and force out pallets so he can fake them later. You are also at somewhat of a disadvantage on survivor with the undetectable part and relying on his lullaby to tell if hes getting close.
Seems like all the tools that are there for a pretty decent killer. He doesn't move slow or anything, normal movement and all...
If we look at stats and then try to derive anything as simple as "well I guess Low MMR must carry" then we have to also acknowledge things that might conflict with theories like this.
For example: Nurse, arguably the strongest killer in DBD, seemingly has now TWICE been on the LOW end of general kill rates. If she was so "strong" shouldn't she be much higher in the kill list?
How is low MMR carrying Freddy/Pig, a meme apparently, but not Nurse?
Surely without a doubt, if Freddy is such a meme the community makes him out to be, shouldn't Nurses kill rate, ESPECIALLY overall, TWICE NOW, be far ahead of him?
Its just not consistent with the data released. And it makes me more and more skeptical when people try to downplay what a killer is capable of because of something they took out of context from a content creator.
Nurse would be the opposite. She is really bad at low MMR because she is difficult to play. The devs have already said that the number of people at high MMR is a very small percentage, so the number of bad Nurses would almost definitely outweigh the number of good Nurses.
Nurses kill rate is low BECAUSE of low MMR Nurses.
As for Freddy, he has the third lowest pick rate of any killer. Doing the math there was most likely <10,000 games involving Freddy. It's probably just a handful of Freddy mains still playing him that are good with him and boosting his stats, combined with the fact that people frequently give up against him because he's pretty boring to face.
-
My issue with her is the same as with old MfT - you have no idea that the Haste is in effect and if you have to play around it.
Can I get another loop at this pallet? No clue. Better drop it. Oh now I have to leave because she placed a drone. It's just boring.

Sure yea, right after they address tunneling and camping why not.
How about addressing teammates not doing objectives and standing around? Should we just address that?
These are things that are hard to "address" as it really just doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things. If you cant give up on hook than people will just stand around afk? Spam a locker until the killer comes kills them?
I'm not sure why you are bringing up camping and tunnelling. I agree they should be addressed, probably the number 1 thing that should be addressed right now.
You are completely right that you can't fully remove it and people will always find a way around it, but you can still reduce it so it isn't as problematic as it is now. It's way too common right now because of how easy it is.
Most other multiplayer games punish people for going AFK or throwing. I don't see why DBD has to be different.

Probably Sam or Mike. They have the most screen time and the highest amount of plot armour of all the characters (SPOILERS - by plot armour I mean you can't even get either of them killed until the last 5 minutes of the game and even then it's ridiculously specific on how to do it)
They seem to be the 'leading characters' of the game and both have the biggest connection to the sisters and brother during the game.

If it's that common that everyone does it, then shouldn't there be something done to address it?

Also here's a theory from Otz about Doctor's low kill rate that i found really interesting
https://twitter.com/OtzdarvaYT/status/1758496785201295369
And believable too. My first match as a survivor in this game was actually against a doctor bot (back in 2021)
I think that could be part of it but I also think it's also because he is free on console and so new players play him a lot. He's rather difficult to master yet he has a pretty high pick rate so most people playing him don't know how to play him right.
And even then when you do know how to play him, he still sucks. He's a low tier killer and I feel Otz exaggerates how good Doctor is. I'm really not surprised he has the lowest kill rate.
I don't think these bots are anywhere near common enough to lower his kill rate that much. And if it did, it's probably only a couple of percentage so he still would be the lowest anyway.

You say I need to learn empathy yet you're talking to the community like you're their drill sergeant and I'm saying people have free will

0 people ever have been banned for killing themselves on hook because 50% of survivor mains would be gone if that were to happen
I never said anyone had been banned for it.
You said leaving a game shouldn’t be punishable, I said that others games already do this and DBD lists it as something that is reportable, they just don’t take action for it.
I’m not even saying they should be banned necessarily, but they should discourage it in some way.

In what universe should you be able to report and punish someone for leaving a video game that they paid for to play at their leisure?
Most other multiplayer games do though.
AFKing, throwing, and rage quitting are even listed under the report section for this game.

I also think killers that are sparing survivors are a big problem with the data too. The kill rate would be higher if they didn't or couldn't, but by how much?
It probably balances out with all the games that could’ve been a win for the survivors but one of them ended up throwing or people memeing around.

I agree. There’s way too much going on behind the scenes and I believe this is why BHVR rarely releases them.
It doesn’t give the full picture and just makes it so anyone can twist it to fit whichever narrative suits them.

Quentin because of his cosmetic options
