How a competitive mode could work
I think adding a "competitive" queue to the game could be really beneficial, allowing players to engage in more serious matches with opponents of similar skill levels.
I suggest having two queues: Unrated and Rated.
Unrated:
This queue would keep the game as it is now, with no restrictions and possibly a slightly toned-down MMR system (or no MMR at all).
Rated:
This would be the "competitive" queue, with the following features:
- No match-altering offerings (Hook spawn, Hatch spawn, Fog density, Map offerings)
- Limited Map Pool consisting of the maps the community regards as most balanced, Such as Autohaven and MacMillan
- Old Rank system (ranks 20 to 1).
- Instead of kill counts, the win condition would be based on hook counts:
- 0-4 Hooks: Loss.
- 5-8 Hooks: Win (Rank increase would be determined by how close you were to the higher end).
- 9-12 Hooks: Perfect Win.
The idea behind this change is to redefine what constitutes a win to encourage healthier gameplay:
- For killers, having even three survivors escape with only one hook remaining should be seen as a win, because it indicates everyone got to play the game.
- For survivors, escaping with one or three hooks left is still satisfying and could be considered as a win, with the rank increase/decrease based on how you performed during the match.
This would discourage killers from camping and tunneling excessively because they would achieve a higher rank even if survivors escape, as long as the killer focuses on going for a higher hook count. Simultaneously, this adjustment makes survivor matches better by reducing tunneling.
Naturally, BHVR would need to introduce substantial rewards beyond just a ranking displayed on your profile. Each season (which could span three months) could grant players icons, banners, skins, charms, etc., based on their end-of-season rank.

What's the win condition for survivors though?
I think keeping tabs on whether you escape or not, as well as also using the way pips are calculated, could be enough for the survivor side
